Greta Kempton
Greta Kempton was born in 1901 in Vienna, Austria. Kempton exhibited her art for the first time in 1931 at the Salons of America. She later became an established portrait artist, painting commissioned portraits of prominent individuals such as the founder of Paramount Studios and the head of MGM. In 1947, Kempton painted the official portrait of President Truman, making her the first woman to paint a US president's official portrait. She also painted Truman's cabinet and his family, becoming known as "America's Court Painter".
Greta Kempton died in 1991 at the age of 90.
