a pair of xolo dogs with a marbled rim.
I struggled to get the rim marbled without getting any black underglaze on the dogs. I had to cover it in sticky notes lmao. I really love the effect though, totally worth it.

Doggust day 3: Xoloitzcuintle (sholo-itz-queent-lee), an ancient Mexican hairless breed with evidence of its existence dating back 3500 years and named for Xolotl, the Aztec guide for the dead ☠️
I love this breed, the coated ones that occur are especially fascinating to me. Also, in my reading about them this is a really interesting bit of research: Pre-Columbian origins of Native American dog breeds, with only limited replacement by European dogs, confirmed by mtDNA analysis (2013)

Nobody making Liam fanart??? Fine, I’ll do it myself
This funny (severely traumatized) dog (terminally ill man) has taken over my life for the past couple days (I’m enjoying myself)
I noticed absolutely nobody making fanart for him even though he is objectively the best dislyte character. His design is on point and his story is absolutely perfect for the mythology he comes from. I’m a bit of a Xolotl enthusiast (I mean hell I have a chibi of him as my pfp) so I was really worried about him after seeing what they did with Quetzalcoatl, but IM SO FUCKIN HAPPY HES EVERYTHING I COULD HAVE WANTED DISLYTE TEAM YOU HAVE REDEEMED YOURSELVES!!!!
I’ve got a painting of him in the works too.

All the doggust doggos so far!!
i think drawing them in couples is easier and funnier, let's see how i do this week
ID: four digital drawings of different dog breeds. From left to right: two aspin dogs from the chest and up looking towards the right. A daltmatian sit down with its tongue out. A xoloitcuintle and an australian shepherd holding a stick and walking together. A great dane looking down to a shiba inu, which looks back at it. Their respective breeds are written in spanish besides them. End ID.

For #MosaicMonday, here is Diego Rivera's (Mexican, 1886-1957) 1956 Exekatlkalli mosaic on the façade of La Casa de los Vientos (The House of the Winds, home of Dolores Olmedo) in Acapulco, Mexico. It was one of his last great works before his death. In addition to the depictions of the Mesoamerican deities Quetzalcóatl, Cōātlīcue, and Tlāloc, there is a Xoloitzcuintle (Mexican Hairless Dog) and a "Sapo-Rana" ("Toad-Frog" - a character based on Rivera's nickname).

It's never going to be finished but I thought I'd show what I'd done so far. Aspect of Xolotl explaining to Danny and Dani (and Cujo) how Xoloitzcuintlis get their colours.
For those interested, it's believed that the light coloured xolos are too pure, that they have had their sins washed away by the river of the dead. The dark coloured ones were dirty and hadn't guided any souls yet. But butterfly xolos, the spotty ones, were the most precious, they had done their duty of guiding their owner to the land of the dead but had chosen to return to earth to guide more souls.
For the infinite realms, xolos can come and go freely regardless of if they are a spirit or not. You can make your own mind up as to if any of these 3 xolos are ghosts!
