cw: fluff, no actual pronouns used, peter is awkward as hell, idk your vibe, but it’s a good one, peter is a cranberries fan.
a/n: i haven’t properly written something in forever :/ but i’m trying i swear lol. i was also listening to Adrianne Lenker while writing this so that may have influenced this a bit.
Tumblr media
the leaves crunch under your converses as you walk, your arms swinging loosely by your sides as you wave your hands in the breeze. you’re walking across campus to your next class, a routine you've grown fond of due to the simplicity of it all. you consider yourself a simple person, you enjoy small things like rocks and the sound of the river that flows under the bridge of your campus.
you’re also noticeably quiet, so much so that your teachers have stopped trying to get you to participate in group discussions. you don’t mind though, you’re content being by yourself.
and so is peter. he’s just as quiet as you, he always has headphones on. you can faintly hear his music, you like the fact that he likes the cranberries, you do too. but he tends to sit away from you, he doesn’t hate you, how could he? the way you skip around campus, the way you collect and paint rocks, the way you sit by the river, the way you’re so freely yourself.
his crush on you is something you’re oblivious too, and he’s too scared to even look at you. he’s read so many books on nature related topics that he might turn into a walking weed, he’s replayed a conversation with you in his head so much he could write a script about it. he wants to ask you to get coffee, he’s seen you sip coffee once or twice, maybe he’ll ask you to see a movie?
he knows you like superheroes, he sees the superman pin on your tote bag. but talking to you seems like his kryptonite, like he’ll die if he tries.
but today he’ll try, he’ll try and push past that fear and talk to you.
~
it’s the afternoon, you’re sitting on a bench and quietly sketching the trees in front of you. your foot lightly tapping on the grass to your music that plays softly in your headphones.
he feels like he’s being creepy, holding flowers for a person who doesn’t even know him. but he sighs and walks up to you, cringing at himself as he taps your shoulder.
“hi uhm, i’m not trying to be creepy but-“ he’s cut off by your eyes peering into his, he feels so small when you look at him with those pretty eyes.
“are those flowers?”
“for you.”
“me..?” you smile as he hands them to you, they’re some sunflowers, they’re fake, but the gesture is nice anyways. “the real ones are super expensive and uh-“
you shake your head and look up at him again. “i get it, it’s okay.” he nervously laughs, mindlessly fidgeting with his fingers.
“could i ask your name?” you reply with your name and he smiles, smiles that you trust him enough already for that. “i’m peter parker, i promise i’m a lot more composed usually.”
you laugh at the self deprecating joke.
“i’ve seen you in class.”
“well i don’t tend to turn invisible, i’ve seen you too. which is why i’m giving you flowers.”
you smile, you appreciate how nice he is and how awkward he is too. “i was- am asking you out by the way, if you’re… interested?” you nod, laughing a bit.
“well don’t laugh at me, i’m trying!” his voice is mockingly whiny as he laughs with you. “but you’re like.. okay with going on a date?” you nod again, stifling your laughter for his sake.
“how does a cafe sound?”
“i like the sound of that, I’m always in a mood for coffee.”
“when do you… wanna go?”
“tomorrow? after class?”
“holy shi- uh- yeah that’s okay.” and with that he stands there awkwardly before clearing his throat and nodding, sighing of relief. “yeah i’ll see you tomorrow! uh, i’ve gotta bounce.” you nod in response and wave him goodbye as he runs off, you can practically hear the smile in his voice.

I’m rereading one of my favorite series from my childhood and it got me thinking about
magi-zoologist wonwoo who comes to visit your magical creature preservation to research the rare dark species living on the land
You get it. They’re fascinating things littered across the hundreds of acres your family has maintained for generations and the awe is never lost on you when you spot the more elusive ones come out from time to time but the last thing you need is to baby sit some nerd when you’re already dealing with constant chaos
Wonwoo isn’t bad at first. He’s incredibly enthusiastic about the revenant living in the abandoned marsh at the far end of the property. He says he observed one at the preserve in Africa and nearly lost his mind from getting a smidge too close but they’re so hard to learn about because you can’t get too close but it’s just so fascinating despite the very real threat of going catatonic.
It doesn’t inspire your confidence but Wonwoo continues to list off facts and knowledge you couldn’t care less about bc you’ll be damned if you take him anywhere near that thing when he’s already getting into trouble with all the other creatures he keeps trying to study because yes there is a fog giant bound to the southern end of the preserve and NO you cannot cross through the wraith’s territory to see the village of triclops isolated in the cliff side Jesus Christ are you trying to get us both killed? how have you survived so long?
When you tell him you don’t even visit some parts of the preserve because the creatures there are better left alone he almost looks at you with pity because they’re fascinating! Magic is fascinating! How can you not even be the smallest bit curious about what goes on out there?
But what’s worse than saving him from trolls and goblins are all the fairies and sprites living in your garden constantly trying to flirt with him (not that you’ve paid much attention)
And it certainly doesn’t help when Wonwoo looks at them with star struck eyes, sketching the rarer species in his journal with precision, because they’re incredibly vain and wait in line to preen their wings or show off their magic for him with the hopes they impress him enough to maintain his attention
so when he cuts his admirations short to discuss another excursion on the grounds with you they get jealous. And hell hath no fury like a fairy scorned because while they can’t technically attack you unprovoked they can make your life incredibly inconvenient. Some grow vines across your usual path in an effort to trip you or angle a sun beam that just so happens to hit your eyes and several outright snuff you when you come outside, flitting away into the woods until wonwoo joins but if he realizes he doesn’t seem to understand because his head is lost in his journal again
And isn’t until your taking Wonwoo to meet the herd of centaurs living on the preserve (he hadn’t shut up since you accidentally let it slip one morning) that you understand yeah he’s a bookworm but he’s more useful than he lets on because you stumble upon a pack of drumants way too close to the house than they should be, disturbing their nest and causing them to attack and without Wonwoo they would have easily taken you down because the little buggers are nearly invisible and while you can handle one or two, Wonwoo knows the tricks to unveil them and it’s Wonwoo who carries you back to the house after your bitten and administers the antivenom and the entire time he’s calm, spouting more facts about how lethal they are as if you aren’t losing color and almost passing out and when he does look at your face and realize he’s freaking you out he tries to crack a joke but your still wondering who the hell is this man and what did he do with Wonwoo who fell into a pile of basilisk shit because he didn’t watch where he was going two days ago
So maybe you start to understand why the fairies are so smitten with the man and you start taking him on more trips into the more dangerous parts of the preserves because you clearly underestimated him
And when it’s time for him to leave to another preserve for further research you won’t admit you’ll miss him but he promises he’ll write you with all the interesting findings and you nod along trying not to be upset because this was the inevitable end to his stay here and you knew from the start he’d be leaving
You’d swear he was blushing as he steps outside the door and you click it shut behind him but then there’s a knock not 20 seconds later and you open it to find wonwoo standing there looking at you the same way he stares at all the magical creatures, like you’re the most fascinating thing he’s ever seen and he wants to immortalize you in his notebook because he needs to know more
Um anyway!

"In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present." - Francis Bacon
You carefully fold the piece of paper into a triangle and continue folding this piece of paper until you've created your very own cootie catcher. You open the four flaps and write two things on each so that each response is different. While JJ is getting the briefing room set up, you're having a bit of fun beforehand.
"What are you doing?" Spencer asks.
"Making a cootie catcher. Wanna play?"
"How? What do you do?"
You roll over to his desk with a smile and set up the game in front of him. On the front are different shades of color he can pick from.
"Pick a color."
"Green."
You move the cootie catcher five times and open it further to reveal the numbers you've written.
"Okay, pick a number."
"Seven."
You open that number flap and read what you've written there.
"You're going to get a gift from someone who loves you."
"Is that gift going to come from you?"
"If you're lucky," you smirk and kiss him quickly.
"Is that a cootie catcher?" Emily gasps and bounces her way over. "I haven't played that game since I was a child."
"Alright, pick a color," you smirk and start the game over.
"Blue!"
You move it four times.
"Now pick a number."
"Two."
You open the flap and reveal what's been written.
"There is a surprise waiting for you at home."
"Unless it's from my cat, I don't think there will be," she laughs.
"Briefing room, five minutes," Hotch calls from above.
"Sorry, Derek, you'll get your turn next time," you say and put away your toy.
"I don't think I want a turn," he chuckles.
The team moves the small party into the briefing room where Hotch, Rossi, and JJ already are. Once everyone is settled in, JJ puts a picture of a young woman on the screen.
"Her name's Michelle Watson who was a realtor murdered in Buffalo a week ago. Until yesterday, they didn't have any leads until they got this."
JJ plays a video of someone inside a bathroom. They must be holding the camera in front of them because you can't see who the person is, just what's in front of them. He turns the sink on and off and shows that the mirror is covered with duct tape. He leaves the bathroom and goes outside where there is an unsuspecting couple by their car who don't seem alarmed that they're being filmed.
"Buffalo PD received it from an unknown source yesterday."
"Were they able to trace it?"
"No. It was sent through an encrypted server from Ukraine."
"There's no sound."
"Yeah, at first glance, there doesn't seem to be a single frame to identify who shot it. He even covered up the mirror."
"I've seen some crazy things sitting at this table, but that... Why send that to the police?" Penelope asks.
"Maybe it's a taunt to show the police how smart he is. You know, catch me if you can sort of thing."
"The two people in the video look directly at the unsub, and neither one seems to register that they're being filmed. It could be a hidden camera."
"The witnesses were able to give us enough for a sketch." JJ passes around papers of what the unsub looks like. "He's a white male in his early thirties that wears glasses."
The video switches from the couple outside to a dark room with a bunch of editing software. There is a computer and some editing tech that the unsub uses to edit his murder videos. There is something playing on the computer screen, but you're unsure of what.
"It looks like an editing suite," you say. "Not only does he film the murder, he edits it. Do we know what's playing on the monitor?"
"Buffalo PD is concerned that it might be another filmed killing."
"If it is, then we're not looking at just one murder but two," Emily says.
"Buffalo is underfunded, undermanned, and they need our help."
"Buffalo's a big gang town. Over seven hundred people were murdered in the last year alone."
"Garcia, I need you to go through this frame by frame and put everything on disks."
"Yes, sir. I'm on it."
Penelope gets up to leave but Hotch stops her.
"Also, put together a go bag. If we get any more of these films, I want you on the ground taking point. Is that okay with you?"
"Yes, sir. Excellent." She walks away but you hear what she mutters to herself. "I don't have a go bag."
"Okay, fast forward. There's something I want everyone to see," Hotch says.
JJ forwards the video to a specific point where the unsub grabs a red marker to write something on the wall.
HELP ME.
He wants to be stopped but can't on his own.
"Wow, a serial killer asking for help. That's a new one for me."
"What if he's sincere?"
"Then he's deeply ambivalent."
"He wants to stop, but like an alcoholic, he simply can't. When we see him driving, his point of view is elevated. I'd say he's driving a van or an SUV. The film stops where it starts--at his home. We can use the film to trace back street by street from the crime scene, right?"
"It only lasts nine minutes. In this frame, he clearly looks at a clock, and it's 9:22 AM."
"Michelle's time of death was four-thirty in the afternoon. He edited out seven hours."
Penelope comes back into the room with her go-bag in hand and a laptop in the other.
"Garica, look for unsolved murders of women in their early thirties who were stabbed in Buffalo and surrounding cities. Go back ten years."
Penelope sits back down and starts typing on her computer.
"Wouldn't ViCAP have already picked up on that?"
"ViCAP only went web-based about a month ago, and Buffalo PD only recently uploaded the data. Without diving in too deep, I have twenty-two counts of murders from women in their early thirties."
"Okay, wheels up in thirty."
It only takes an hour to get there, and you're talking to the lead detective, Lynne Henderson, before you know it. She's shocked to hear how many cased Penelope found with one quick search.
"Twenty-two? We had six. Do you really think it could be that many?"
"We went back ten years and included surrounding cities. The unsub may be out of his comfort zone. Now, they may not all be connected, but they all match Michelle's type--blonde, white, and in their early thirties. The autopsy reports will help us determine which of these cases are connected."
"I'll get them here right away."
"We also need to take a look at the crime scenes."
"Y/N and I will stay and help Reid," Rossi offers.
"I'll take Prentiss and Morgan," Hotch says.
"Tell me, do you think this is a one-off or can I expect more films?" Lynne asks.
"It's not a one-off. The filming of his kills makes him a sexual psychopath. We'll find more, many more just like this one."
Derek, Emily, and Hotch leave to go to Michelle's crime scene while you, Rossi, and Spencer go back over the video that was sent to the police. It's weird to see someone write "help me" when they're considered a psychopath.
"It's weird because 'help me' is in direct conflict with the psychology of a psychopath, and it's something I've never seen before. Psychopaths don't have the capacity to feel empathy towards others. They can mimic it, but they can't feel it."
"Does that mean he didn't mean it?" Lynne asks.
"Could be or someone or something is showing him who he really is."
Penelope walks in with determination.
"Okay, friends, the video on this film is analog. It's since been digitized, but it is seriously degraded."
"Meaning what?" you ask.
"Meaning this kind of degradation only happens over at least a decade and thousands of repeated viewings."
"It's the only way he gets his release is if he watches it over and over again."
"Then you're right. He's been doing this for ten years."
"More like twenty," Penelope says. "That woman in this video is wearing a sweater I haven't seen since Flashdance."
Rossi looks over the evidence including Michelle's calendar book she used for everything since she was a real estate worker who needed to know when her appointments were.
"On the day of her death, Michelle entered the name Robert at four in the afternoon."
"We found no one connected to her with that name. We think it's an alias," Lynne says.
"Michelle's highly organized. She's left-handed because she's precise and light of hand. The hardest point is where she starts, the lightest point is where she tails off. In her case, she tails off to the right." Spencer looks deeper into what she wrote with confusion on his face. "This is weird."
"What is?" JJ asks.
"I'm not sure, but the number twenty-nine is circled twice in red ink and it tails off to the left. Whoever wrote that is right-handed."
JJ plays the video of the unsub right when he writes on the wall. He's writing with his right hand, and he's using red ink.
"The unsub is right-handed and he's using red ink. The unsub write this 'twenty-nine' and circled it."
"Guys, tomorrow's the 29th," Penelope says.
Whatever is going to happen, it's going to happen tomorrow. The camera keeps shaking as the unsub is recording this, and you take the remote from JJ to forward it to when the unsub encounters the two strangers by their car. They have no clue he is recording them because they don't notice a camera on him. If he's wearing glasses, he might not need a camera to hold.
"What if the unsub is recording through his glasses?" you say. "Maybe that's why no one ever saw it. If Michelle saw a camera, then she would have registered it in the video."
JJ's phone rings and she takes it off to the side. When she's done, she comes back into the room.
"Y/N's right. Derek and Em also think the unsub's camera is in the glasses. You need to get a sketch of the unsub out to every camera shop in Buffalo."
"If he hunts within a comfort zone, then whichever of these camera shops he visits the most will be the one he'll live closest to."
"I'll tell my guys," Lynne says and takes the picture of the unsub with her.
"Hotch also wants us to focus on victims found in controlled locations like secure areas with little chance of witnesses, and ones where he left the bodies where he killed them."
There are twenty-two files of women who were victims in the last ten or so years that you go through that fit secure locations with little to no witnesses.
"Based on that, I have Emily Flynn who was killed in June of 1998. She was found in her apartment and was stabbed twenty-three times. In March of 2000, Hilary Habner was stabbed eighteen times in her basement. Cindy Stagnal was stabbed multiple times in her office in April 2001. Finally, we have Vanessa Bright who was stabbed and found in her studio in May of 1999."
"1999 to 2001. Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have our timeline," you state. "It looks like our killer strikes almost exactly every twelve months."
"Oh, my god," Lynne gasps. "He got away with killing all these women."
"I think we need to inform the media. Buffalo has a serial killer," JJ warns.
You grab the remote and watch when the unsub talked to the older couple by their car. He keeps looking down at the ground several times. He takes two steps to the right, back, and to the left as if he's stepping over some kind of object that you can't see. He circled the 29th twice in red, and he turned the sink on and off twice previously.
This isn't a message. This is something he has to do. You rewind the video and play the interaction again when you see he's not stepping over invisible objects, it's the cracks in the sidewalk. He's stepping over them because he has to. He's obsessive-compulsive meaning no matter how hard he tries, he simply can't stop himself.
By writing "help me", he really means "stop me". This is only going to get worse before it gets better. Hotch gives JJ the okay to release this statement to the public, so Lynne is the face of the report to warn everyone about the dangers of the unsub. Not even twenty-four hours after that statement, another woman was killed, so you head over to where she was dumped. She was wrapped in a black trash bag and placed by the dumpsters, and the weird thing about her is that she doesn't fit the other victims at all.
"There is no purse, no jewelry, and nothing to ID her with," Detective Lynne says.
"She must have meant something to the unsub. He didn't care what was left behind on Michelle because he knew we wouldn't be able to trace her back to him."
"Why did he cover her up and fold her arms across her chest? She can't be more than twenty-four. This doesn't fit his victimology."
"Maybe she caught him in the act of something, so he killed her to keep his secret," you say. "The chest wounds match that of Michelle's. He probably knew her because of the way he wrapped her and the position he left her in."
"That's somewhat of a leap," Lynne says.
"Not when you consider this is the first time he dumped the body. Unlike the others, he brought her body here and dumped it."
"Someone will be missing her soon."
"Today's the 29th. He probably killed her last night. Whatever his plans are, he still has them. We're ready to give the profile."
Since there are so many officers on the scene, Lynne gathers them so you can give the profile out. Only you, Derek, Rossi, and Hotch are here. The rest are back at the station.
"We've confirmed eleven kills over a ten-year period. This makes twelve. All but one are blonde, white, and in their mid to late thirties. This unsub has extreme obsessive-compulsive disorder. This woman doesn't fit his victimology. He probably didn't target or even mean to kill her."
"Five camera shops in Buffalo were shown this sketch." Lynne holds up the sketch of the unsub. "The owner of Tarquinio's camera shop on Union Road recognized it. He knows him only as Vincent. He bought two three-millimeter mini wireless cameras and had them retrofitted to his glasses."
"He's well-versed in camera technology. He probably generates income from a related field, so stake out the shop but keep a low profile. He walks in off the street, politely waits his turn, and pays in cash. This is him." Hotch holds up the video shot of Vincent in the camera shop. "He's wearing a black overcoat and black baseball cap. You'll get more from your sketch."
"Now, this last kill shows the most remorse. This guy's mobile so he's most likely in a SUV that's low-profile and mute in color. He's beginning to devolve. His OCD will get worse and he'll have a hard time hiding it. He will take bigger and bigger risks to achieve his ultimate goal."
"In Michelle Watson's day planner, he circled the number twenty-nine. Today is the 29th. We believe he may have something planned for today. He sent us that film as his way of reaching out. He may be ambivalent, but his OCD won't let him stop. Now, if he sees a heavy police presence and he's not done, he'll run. The east side is his comfort zone. That is where he lives. However random, anything out of the ordinary, please let us know."
"Thank you very much." The group is disbanded and Hotch turns to Rossi. "Tell me again what the autopsy report said."
"He seems to be killing once a year. All of them but Michelle were overkill. He stabbed her just once. Plus, hers was the only one he sent footage of to the police. That's a definitive change."
"You're right. Call Reid and Prentiss. Tell them to go over the autopsy report again. We need to know why."
"I'm actually headed that way anyway. I'll catch them up," you say. "I'll call you if we find anything."

day seventeen: eddie munson you injure yourself carving pumpkins with eddie | some blood! fluff, a little suggestive | 1.1k
Tumblr media
This whole thing is going to be a pain in the ass to clean up, but everyone is having too much fun for you to mind that much.
The yard in front of the Munson trailer has been taken over by folding tables and teenagers. El had the idea to carve pumpkins all together this year and everyone was determined to make it happen. You and Eddie managed to get the tables from other people in the park and set them out, covering them with tablecloths generously loaned by Mrs. Henderson. Steve dropped off the pumpkins before he went to work and now everyone is hard at work on their carvings.
Well, mostly. Lucas and Mike keep throwing seeds at each other. Max remains focused and is perhaps scarily adept at wielding her carving knife. El and Will have teamed up — he sketched whatever they’re working on with a careful hand and she’s cutting out the pieces.
Dustin won’t let anyone see his.
You and Eddie are next to each other. He’s doing a dragon or something equally fitting and you’ve stuck with a classic face, triangle eyes and a toothy grin.
It’s a perfect day. A little chilly, sure, but you’re in a flannel of Eddie’s and your coat. Steve and Robin should be by later to take everyone to get cider in town. Sometimes, when your life looks like this, you can hardly believe it.
You’re almost done with the mouth when Eddie whistles, high and sharp. You look at him and he’s pointing with his serrated knife. “Less whatever the fuck that is and more carving, Wheeler!” he yells. Mike flips him the bird.
You don’t look away from your boyfriend because you don’t have to. He’s yours. His hair is up in a messy bun at your urging so he doesn’t get pumpkin guts in his curls. His tongue pokes out as he goes back to carving, his attention to detail endearing and impressive at the same time. He’s so pretty that you just stare and stare until your knife slips from the pumpkin and slices your palm.
“Shit,” you hiss, quiet as you can.
Eddie looks up immedietly. You drop the knife with a clatter and grab your wrist as if that’ll stop the cut from welling up with red. “Hey,” he says, putting down his own knife, “You okay? What happened?”
A few drops of blood run down your palm and drip onto the table — it’s not deep, you don’t think, but it’s long and it sure as hell hurts. And there’s…quite a bit of blood.
“Oh no,” El says. The kids — teenagers, you remind yourself — stop their shenanigans to stare.
You look at Eddie with wide eyes and he quickly ascertains what you’re telling him. “She’s fine,” he tells them. “Right?”
You nod.
“So go back to carving and be careful, shitheads.”
Eddie reaches for you, one palm under your bleeding one and the other on your elbow. He pulls you to the trailer.
“Sorry,” you say, not sure why. Eddie cuts you a glare and ignores the apology. You’re bleeding enough that it’s getting on the hand he cups to catch the drops, which is both mortifying and a bit gross.
“I’m bleeding on you,” you tell him. He laughs.
“I think I’m well acquainted with your fluids by now, sweetheart.” You scrunch up your nose at him and your face heats.
“Gross, Eddie.” He laughs again.
“Hold that over the sink, okay? And — yeah, let’s rinse it, too.” He turns on the tap and makes sure it’s not freezing before guiding your hand under it. The water stings a bit but you keep it there as he heads to the bathroom.
You know he has a first aid kit in there but you don’t think you’ve ever needed it in the time you’ve been together. He returns with…a huge box.
“Why is it so big?” you ask.
He makes a face and you know he’s considering making a dirty joke but he refrains. “Have you met me?” he says instead. “I’m clumsy as shit, sweetheart.”
It makes you laugh. He looks triumphant. “Don’t I know it.”
“Plus, I burn myself all the time with hot glue making shit for Hellfire.”
He cracks open the box and pulls out a tube and some bandages. “It’s just a cut, Eddie,” you say. “Sorry.”
You turn the tap off and he holds his hand out for yours. He dries it gently with a kitchen towel before leaning in to kiss your hairline lightly. “No sorries. It’s fine. Lemme get you fixed up.”
You lean back on the counter. His hands are now clean of your blood — he must have washed them in the bathroom — and your bleeding has slowed to a sluggish ooze. He studies your palm for a few seconds.
“Yeah, I think it’ll be okay with a bandage. If it doesn’t stop bleeding we should maybe go get it stitched, so watch it, okay?”
You nod. That does not sound fun. He gently rubs some antibiotic gel on it and then tears open a big bandage with his teeth and spreads it gently over your cut.
“How does that feel?” He looks at you with those big brown eyes and honest to God, it doesn’t hurt anymore. You’ve always thought that Eddie was a bit magic with his booming voice and his tenderness underneath the leather and the metal. It’s so obvious when he looks at you like this.
“Better,” you say. He smiles slightly and brings your palm to his lips to press a gentle kiss to the bandage. “Wow, thank you.”
He winks. “You gonna tell me how this happened? No offense, sweetheart, but you’re making the simplest jack-o-lantern I’ve ever seen.”
You tear your gaze from his and duck your head. “I got distracted,” you mutter.
“Oh, yeah?” Eddie taps your chin with his knuckle but you don’t look up. You can hear his grin. “By what?” He pokes your side and you squirm. “Or by who?”
“Eddie,” you whine, pitching forward to rest your forehead on his shoulder.
“I get it,” he says. “Your boyfriend is like, super hot.”
“I’m going outside now.” You do not move.
“Don’t worry,” he says. “I won’t tell anyone you have a crush on me. Plus, you can’t go until you pay the fee.”
That gets you to pull away from him so you can show him your bemused expression. “The fee?”
He nods. “This hospital ain’t free.” He puckers his lips like a fish and you roll your eyes.
“Ah, the fee. Of course.” You lean in and kiss him softly, despite the joke, and he melts into you for a few moments before you pull away, injured hand held close to your chest.
“Fee paid, I guess.”
“Alright, Dr. Munson. We’ve got pumpkins to carve and teens to wrangle.” He groans but lets you drag him back outside. Yeah, even though your hand throbs, at least you’ve got this goon by your side.

I’ve made another fankid, this one’s name is Cloudberry Cookie
So I’ve been struggling to come up with designs for my actual requests, which sucks because I want to draw more fankids, so for now I’m just drawing ones that I’ve been wanting to do, but aren’t on my requests, with wildchip being one of them
Anyways, so for the name, I picked cloudberry since cloudberries are berries, so like Wildberry, but they also grow in very cold climates, like where Crunchy Chip lives
Cloudberry I think was originally a contender for a hollycacao fankid, but then I thought it could also work for wildchip, so that’s what I did instead
Also, another contender that I had for this ship was pineberries, since they’re white with red seeds, which reminded me of Crunchy Chip’s hair, but if you replaced the dark brown with Wildberry’s pink. But I liked cloudberries more, so I went with that. But if I make another one, I’ll probably do Pineberry
Cloudberries:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I’m aware that neither Crunchy Chip nor Wildberry have orange in their hair, but cloudberries are that color, so that’s her hair color. I still worked in Wildberry’s pink though. Not the proudest of how her hair turned out, or at least the top part, like I think it looked different in my head, but I was trying to make it look closer Wildberry and Crunchy Chip
I admit, I probably could have done better with her outfit, I just wasn’t entirely sure what to do with it other than “cold climate”. Maybe I’ll redesign it some time later
I also made a version with markings like Crunchy Chip’s, but I thought maybe they were just tacked on, so I took them out. But I’ll still post that version at the end, to see if that looks better to you guys
Now let’s get on to her character, since I have some stuff for her
So Cloudberry lives in the Dark Cacao Kingdom, as she prefers the cold climate, but she mostly just lives in solitude in the mountains, not really part of the military like her father. She visits her parents from time to time, and she has a good relationship with them both, she just prefers to live by herself. Generally she farms cloudberries, knowing where they grow, and will on occasion sell cloudberry jam to others. But she also works as a hunter and tracker, being open for hiring if you want someone or something tracked down. Also, she uses and trains birds, like the Cacao Hawks (was that what they’re called? I can’t seem to find where they’re mentioned). She likes the Cream Wolves well enough, she just prefers birds. Plus, they can send letters for her
Generally she comes off as a rather serious person, at least to others, as she’s mostly focused on the task at hand, but she’s also very intelligent and witty, and will sass when you least expect it (unfortunately I am not very witty, so I cannot tell you what she says)
As for the sketch with Crunchy Chip, I just imagine he would just be showing her off to anyone with the time of day. Also that her hair used to be more bouncy and berry like in shape
Edit: oh yeah, something else I thought of that I wanted to mention. So cloudberries are supposed to be incredibly rare and hard to find if you don’t know where to look. Assuming Wildberry and Crunchy Chip baked her, I’m just assuming they were trying to figure out what ingredients to use, and Crunchy Chip suggests these berries he’s heard grow in his kingdom but are very rare, and as they aren’t really sold places, they have to make this long trek across the mountains to find cloudberries, which they inevitably do. I don’t know why I added this bit, I just thought it was neat
Also for some reason, in my head I kept calling her “Wendy”. I don’t know why, but she felt like a Wendy. I guess if she ever needs a proper human name, I’m going with Wendy, despite the fact it sounds nothing like her name
But yeah, I think that’s about it for her, hope you enjoy!
Oh right, the alternate one with her markings! Forgot that

‘Our Flag Means Death’ Sneak Peek: Inside Blackbeard & Crew’s New Season 2 Looks
Tumblr media
Breakups aren’t easy, but that’s especially true for the new and improved — depending on how you look at it — crew of the Revenge in Our Flag Means Death Season 2 premiering Thursday, October 5th on Max, as Blackbeard, a.k.a. Ed (Taika Waititi) continues to unravel after Gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) abandoned him in Season 1.
As with the end of Season 1, Blackbeard recedes even further into the persona of himself painted by various wanted posters. He’s sporting the same black eye makeup as he did in the first season’s finale and also influencing the way his crew looks while serving him aboard the vessel previously helmed by Stede. Above and below, we’re delving into some of those details with exclusive photos, exclusive interviews, and a brand-new clip teasing the dynamic aboard the Revenge.
In the sneak peek, below, times are tense for Frenchie (Joel Fry), Jim (Vico Ortiz), Fang (David Fane), and the newest member of the team, Archie (Madeleine Sami), as they observe Blackbeard’s second in command, Izzy Hands (Con O’Neill). As seen in the minute-and-a-half exchange, Izzy’s getting testy with the shipmates when they question orders to throw treasure overboard. “It is not your place to tell me what does or does not make sense. It is your job to follow my f**king orders,” Izzy spits, emotion welling in his makeup-darkened eyes.
youtube
Fang is the first to note that Izzy doesn’t seem to be doing fine, and Jim steps forward to add, “Yeah, we think you’re in an unhealthy relationship with Blackbeard.” Additional tidbits from the crew include the fact that Blackbeard does “a lot of rhino horn” and he’s cut off more of Izzy’s toes.
In other words, Ed’s downward spiral is wreaking havoc on Izzy and the rest of the gang. But depending on how you feel about certain pirate looks, their exterior makeovers are sure to excite, regardless of the reasoning behind them.
“[Blackbeard] sort of has this Mad Max thing that we already established in Season 1, that’s so gorgeous and so unique to [him]. So I just wanted to up that ante,” costume designer Gypsy Taylor tells TV Insider. “We started with that Mad Max black leather violent side of him, and he’s sort of infiltrated this crew now. So they’ve taken it upon themselves to become Beard’s crew in whatever circumstance they’re in.”
“They’ve all taken to that color palette of the black leather and filth, which makes ’em look mean,” Taylor adds with a laugh, but makes it clear, “individually, I wanted to give [them each] a really unique look.” Teaming up with Taylor to accomplish that look is hair and makeup designer Nancy Hennah, who enhances the fantastic clothing ensembles viewers will see onscreen.
“We spent a lot of time working out what we were going to do for the raid makeups,” Hennah says of the Revenge crew. “Blackbeard in particular has lost it a bit and is really going off on a tangent, and the rest of the crew have kind of been pulled into that. We spent a lot of time working out what products were going to be good to emulate [something like the] grease found on the boat and they’ve smeared it on their faces.”
“Blackbeard is really struggling with having lost Stede and is leaning into that dark side, which is frightening for everybody else, but they’re sort of trying to play along,” Hennah continues. While fans may have already seen previously-released photos of the crew, Taylor and Hennah dug into their personal archives to share exclusive sketches and behind-the-scenes photos to provide a closer look at their process and each individual character’s look aboard the Revenge. Check them out below.
Our Flag Means Death, Season 2 Premiere, Thursday, October 5, Max
Tumblr media
“With Jim, that’s a huge transformation,” Taylor says about star Ortiz’s onscreen evolution. “It was a really exciting one. We talked about it a lot with Vico, and I wanted to bring in a whole lot of ropes and things that they would’ve found on the ship to make an outfit out of and a giant fishhook that we made a belt out of.”
When it comes to the Revenge crew’s ensembles, there’s a focus on found materials doubling as clothing, “so sort of scrounging and finding elements around pirate ships that they could make a costume out of,” Taylor elaborates, noting that the pirates are being resourceful in “almost the same way that drag queens do.”
Tumblr media
When it came to styling Ortiz in their costume alongside the other crew members, Hennah says, “Vico had a great new hairstyle, which we were really excited about, and we cut that early on in our testing phase. Then they had to hide [it].
Everywhere they went, they were wearing a hat.” It was all about “getting the right balance between the amount of hair on top and the amount of hair that we took [off] on the side,” she adds of Jim’s mohawk sported by Ortiz, which can be seen in the sketch and behind-the-scenes test photos.
Tumblr media
Similar to Jim’s found fashion, Frenchie’s sporting an edgier look this season that is supposed to look like stolen wares from another pirate. “Because pirates steal a lot,” Taylor says, “they’ve quite often got cool things that they’ve stolen off of other pirates. And that’s where the inspiration for Frenchie’s jacket came.” As fans may recall, Frenchie found cats particularly terrifying in Season 1, so it makes sense that he’d emulate the feline, which has a motif on the back of his coat according to Taylor.
“Maybe he stole it from another pirate ship, and then he made it his own by putting this sort of ode to Desperately Seeking Susan on the back of his jacket with this rearing cat, which in the first season, the cat was very innocent lightly licking his paw, and now we’ve gone really manic and bad,” says Taylor.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Blackbeard’s soft-spoken, but brutish when-needed crew member is enhancing his look from last season with some ornamental additions. “We didn’t want to change Fang too much, but I incorporated a whole lot of new elements to his costume,” Taylor teases. “So he’s got the teeth of sperm whales all around his necklace, and then he’s got walrus teeth coming out of his jacket. So he’s sort of made a new look based on animals that he might’ve found out in the open seas, like dead carcasses and things like that.”
Tumblr media
This behind-the-scenes shot from Hennah offers a closer look at Fane’s Fang on set.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An exciting aspect of the season for Taylor and Hennah was the addition of Archie to the crew, giving them something new to craft. “Archie’s now part of the gang, and she’s just a badass,” Taylor gushes. “We figured she was sort of deep from the dark alleyways of New York in her sort of street punk aesthetic.”
Tumblr media
One piece of Archie’s ensemble is an homage to one of Taylor’s favorite films, The Warriors. “She’s wearing a little Warriors red leather gang jacket,” Taylor shares, adding, “Her t-shirt is a really cool, very subtle print of Blackbeard’s wanted poster.” Why? “She’s a bit of a fan girl,” Taylor notes. “She really looks up to Blackbeard and how bad he is.”
Tumblr media
When it comes to tattoos, Hennah says, “I try to talk about their personal heritage and where they’ve come from and if there’s anything that they want in terms of tattoos.”
For Sami, Hennah sought out designs with Fijian and Indian influence to reflect the actor’s personal heritage. “I approached a Henna artist, and we just got her to do a drawing of some designs,” Hennah reveals. “And then Madeline and a few of the other makeup team [members] and I spent about four or five hours just turning those little puzzle pieces into the tattoos.”
Sami loved her tattoos so much that Hennah says she was told Sami “is thinking about getting one of the tattoos for real.”
Tumblr media
And when it comes to Izzy, he’s not changing things too much. “He’s just a man of his own. He wouldn’t really listen to Blackbeard,” Taylor says. “So there were very subtle things [that we were going to do], like adding studs to his gloves so that when he beat up people, it was a little bit more violent.
But in the end, we took it away. He’s enough of a badass on his own.” Ultimately, the only real change people will see on Izzy went the show returns is, “He got a bit dirtier from being at sea. We broke him down more, added a bit more sort of salt and all those crusty sort of overlays.”
Tumblr media
When it comes to the crew’s man in charge, Blackbeard’s transformation has evolved a bit since viewers last saw him in Season 1. “I wanted to keep his leathers because pirates, as you see in Season 1, are at sea for a really long time. They don’t have a closet, unlike the Gentleman pirate Stede. So they’re always just wearing the same thing and getting dirtier and dirtier and dirtier.”
When a pirate dons a new garment though, it’s usually stolen. Such is the case for Blackbeard, according to Taylor: “We figured he’d stolen this black leather jacket in a raid, but he’d sort of made it his own in his own manic way, much [like] he’s done with the ship where [things are torn down and burned].”
Tumblr media
Wanting to reflect the season’s production design in Blackbeard’s coat, Taylor says, “We burned it, and we ripped it, and we added six different belts to the sides that are holding it together, which would be like he murdered six pirates and stole their belts. And he’s started to collect a little bit more jewelry. So you’ll start to see some new rings and a little lovely pearl necklace that he’s stolen off of someone at the wedding party [seen in the teaser trailer] perhaps.”
Tumblr media
As for Blackbeard’s makeup and hair, Hennah says, “We stuck mostly around his eyes. It just looked more sinister, and he was a lot more disheveled. He spends a lot of time this season wet, which is a bit of a nightmare when you’ve got beards and wigs and drying and getting back to dry. He has always had two wigs, and we got an extra one made this season as well because we were having to swap between wet and dry a lot.”
Apart from the extra wig, it was the tattoos that made up Blackbeard’s biggest makeup change. “We added quite a few tattoos,” shares Hennah. “I think in Season 1, he had around 24 tattoos, but at times this season, we were up to 30, and three of them were the big chest tattoo and then a brand new back tattoo. I worked with Dean Sacred at Sacred Tattoo for the big back tattoo design. He did a beautiful drawing for us of the skull with the snake coming out, the skull’s eyes with the snake crying.” As fans can see, the snake and skull sit above another tattoo with the words “Trust No One.”
Will he ever trust again after Stede left? Only time will tell.

The Sketchbook
Trouble is brewing in Caline Bustier’s classroom at Collège Françoise Dupont. In the center of it? Marinette, a ruined sketchbook, and Chloé as the prime suspect.
Notes:
Another take on the infamous ‘sketchbook’ trope. I wanted a self-indulgent "class has more than two braincells” fic to tide me over.
Also, oof this screwed me over - I’ve spent literally months trying to write this. To the requesters, I’m working on them as much as I can - there will probably be one going up sometime this week.
It was supposed to be another normal morning. Marinette had hardly enough time to drag herself out of bed and get dressed before she was hurrying off to school, a croissant in her mouth.
She checked her phone as soon as she got to the front steps of the middle school with a frown. The group chat for the art club had been strangely silent as of late, and it wasn’t just because of the deal with Lila.
One part of her was gripped with guilt - what if they just made a new chat without her? It certainly would be quieter than kicking her out of the usual one.
She knew things had been stressful and a bit strained, what with Lila’s lies driving a wedge between them the harder she tried to get them to listen to her. She knew some of them may feel a tad uncomfortable picking sides, and she knew for certain that some of them didn’t think as highly of her as others did.
When she thought of Nathanael, she had to wince - and quickly grabbed her croissant with her free hand, as she’d accidentally bitten too far into it and it had begun to fall from her mouth. After the Evillustrator incident and the Reverser debacle, she was sure he’d never want to speak to her again.
She heaved a sigh as she made her way to the locker room. She grabbed her stuff and shut it harder than she thought, the loud noise making her flinch. As she made her way to her classroom, she stopped short at Nino and Nathanael standing outside of it, looking around as if trying to find something.
“Miimo?” She muttered around her croissant, taking it out and swallowing the bite. “What’s going...?”
“Marinette!” Nino’s head shot up and he looked even more panicked as he held out his arms. “Mari, dudette, I didn’t know-- I swear I didn’t know.”
“Didn’t know what?” Anxiety prickled at her chest as she looked from him to Nathanael. “What’s going on?”
“I’m sorry,” the redhead breathed, soft eyes full of guilt. “I didn’t know she would do this.”
“You’re scaring me.” She shook her head, trying to peek past Nino’s body. “What...?”
He moved to block her view, but it was too late.
Marinette’s mouth dropped open, the croissant falling from her hand at the same time as her bag. Butter from the pastry seeped down the side and onto the floor.
Ten shocked faces looked up at her from inside, and she could swear she saw a hint of a smirk on Lila’s face for a split-second before it faded to one of nervousness.
“Hey, hey,” Nino grabbed her into a hug and in the next second she could feel hot tears trickling down her cheeks. “Breathe, ‘Nette.”
“It wasn’t... I swear it was nobody from the art club,” Nathanael spoke up. “None of us were even near your locker when it got stolen.”
“Marinette,” Alya started as she made her way towards the door. “Mari, girl, I’m so sorry--”
“M- my plans,” the artist whispered. “My sketches... my designs...” she hiccupped, and her voice cracked. “They’re ruined.”
“Breathe,” Nino repeated, and his arm tightened around her shoulders. “Babe, could you...?”
“Yeah,” Alya nodded and made her way back to her desk. Her seat in the very back, the top of the stairs, and the sketchbook.
Crumpled and ripped pieces of paper littered the tabletop, the book in question looking worse for wear. Silence settled atop the students as she began to carefully uncrumple them as best she could, Marinette’s sniffles filling the gaps of quiet.
“Why?” She whimpered, gripping Nino’s shirt tight. “Who would do this? What have I done?”
“Watch out for butterflies, guys,” Alix warned as she made her way through the classroom to the door. Nino and Nathanael simultaneously stiffened and began looking around for the cursed dark-purple menaces. “Marinette, I know it looks bad, but--”
“Guys?” Adrien’s voice rang out from the other end of the hall, and oh no, why did he have to show up while she was such a mess--?! “What’s going on?”
“Bro, now isn’t the best time,” Nino began.
“Why? What’s wrong with...?” Adrien’s voice trailed off as he saw the room. A soft gasp escaped him, one that made Marinette heave another low, moaning sob.
“When we got here this morning, it was just sitting there,” Nathanael quietly filled him in with a frown. “Nobody knows who did it. The art club is sure it wasn’t one of us.”
The blond paused, feeling the weight behind the artist’s words. “You don’t think it was... Chloe, do you?”
“I can’t think of anyone else, we’re all accounted for.” The redhead raised a brow at him, folding his arms. “You wouldn’t defend her if she tore apart Marinette’s book, would you?”
One look at the weeping girl on his best friend’s chest and he was vigorously shaking his head. “No, of course I wouldn’t! An artist’s portfolios are sacred! I’m just... confused. Chloe wouldn’t do this.”
“Oh really?” Alya’s voice rang out in disbelief. “What rock have you been living under, Adrien? Chloe has done way worse than this before.”
“Yeah, don’t you remember when she sabotaged Marinette’s gift to Ms. Bustier?” Kim chimed in.
“Or how she let my watch get broken?” Alix groused.
“Or when she mocked Nathanael’s drawings and got him akumatized?” Rose piped up, earning a nod from her girlfriend.
“Or when she threw a tantrum because she couldn’t be Queen Bee and got herself akumatized by choice?” Max emphasized, adjusting his glasses.
“Guys, please,” Adrien pleaded, raising his hands. “I know she’s done worse than this before, but... do you really think she’d stoop to this level? Her mom is a famous fashion mogul and she knows my dad is the biggest designer in Paris - she knows the importance of this stuff!”
“Oh, like she’d care about that when it happens to belong to Marinette!” Ivan scoffed. Beside him, Mylene frowned, clutching his hand and nodding in solidarity.
“But... but she wouldn’t want...” Adrien trailed off. She wouldn’t do this because she doesn’t want to make me upset. Belatedly he realized it might sound more self-centered had he said it out loud.
“Chloe is a bully, Adrien,” Lila spoke up, voice dripping with honeyed concern. Marinette’s grip tightened on Nino’s shirt, something that made the boy look down in confusion. “It’s obvious she did this to get back at her!”
“I did what to get back at whom?” Chloe questioned as she walked down the hall. Her nose was in the air like usual, and Sabrina simpered behind her.
“You stole Marinette’s sketchbook and ripped it up, didn’t you?!” Alya exclaimed, a rather thunderous expression shadowing her face as she pointed accusingly.
“I did what?!” The socialite balked. Turning to Sabrina, she ordered, “Remind me of where I was from the moment school ended yesterday to this morning.”
“U- um, let’s see,” the girl muttered, pulling out her phone and typing furiously.
“Drop the pretenses, we all know it was you,” Alix sighed. “This is such a Chloe thing to do. I’m surprised you’re trying to make us think for a minute that--”
“I got it!” Sabrina yelped, interrupting the pinkette with her waving her phone back and forth. “Chloe had a manicure directly after school, followed by an hour of sunbathing by the pool, and then back to her room, where I did her homework until dark and I went home. This morning...” she scrolled down, “...she picked me up in the limo and we drove to school, where we are now.”
“That proves it,” the blonde declared, tilting her chin upwards. “There’s no way I did it.”
“I’d believe you,” oh great, here came Lila again, “except for the fact that leaves a large window of time where you could’ve broken into school and stole the book!”
“What in the world makes you think I’d be caught dead trespassing on school property just to look for a stupid sketchbook?” Chloe snapped, folding her arms. “I’m Queen Bee! I value my beauty sleep way more than whatever Dupain-Cheng scribbles in class.”
“Was Queen Bee,” Nino muttered, but the blonde pointedly ignored him.
“Oh yeah?” Alya argued, Lila placing a hand on her shoulder as if to hold her back. “Remember when you stole Marinette’s design for Gabriel Agreste’s design competition?”
“Or when you had Sabrina try to steal her diary?” Alix agreed. Then with a snicker, “By the way, nice going on the box trap, ‘Nette.”
Sabrina winced, holding her wrist at the memory.
“Face it, Chloe, you’re nothing but a big bully.” Kim spoke up with a withering look. “You’ve had it out for Marinette since we were little. And yeah, I may have had a thing for you before, but that don’t mean I’m gonna stick up for you now! You went too far this time!”
Chloe looked utterly flabbergasted, eyes darting back and forth between the angry students before finally settling on a silent Adrien.
“Adrikins,” she implored, “you have to believe me. I didn’t do it this time.”
Adrien searched her face for a couple long seconds before he looked away with a sigh.
“Adrien,” Lila spoke up, her voice dripping with concern, “you don’t seriously take the word of a bully over your friends... right?”
“Well, I- I...” he floundered, gesturing back and forth between Chloe and Marinette, who had finally stopped crying and was hiding her face in Nino’s shoulder.
“Okay, let’s all calm down,” Max interrupted, catching everyone’s attention. “This is getting us nowhere, and we still have nobody to blame for the book. Let’s rewind and work through it line by line: where were each of us between yesterday afternoon and this morning?”
“I’ll go first.” He gestured to the door. “I was at the library to work on my half of the science project, then I went home and worked on Markov.”
“I can tell you for certain that I was with Marinette after school,” Alya began confidently. “We worked on our project together and after I went home for dinner I stayed there all night.” She nodded towards her boyfriend. “Nino can vouch - we were texting for a couple of hours, right?”
“Yeah, I have the text log to prove it.” He nodded firmly. “And I was at my house babysitting my brother.”
“I remember you telling me about that,” Adrien softly chimed in with a smile. “I can offer my phone if anyone needs to check me.”
“Okay, so that’s Alya and Nino that have solid alibis,” Max nodded. “Who else? Alix?”
“I was with my dad at the museum for most of the afternoon,” she answered, jerking her chin towards Kim. “Then he called and asked about the math homework, and so I helped him through it for a while.”
“I was at the pool hanging out with Ondine for a couple of hours before I went home to do homework,” he added with a nod. “Ondine will cover me!”
“Kitty Section was practicing!” Rose piped up. “Leka’s mom can confirm if you want!”
“So that’s Rose, Juleka, Ivan, and Mylene as well,” Max hummed. “And Adrien... we don’t need to ask.”
The boy blushed, ducking his head. “Fair.”
“I was hanging out with Marc all day yesterday,” Nathanael nodded, tossing his head to get the hair out of his eyes. “If you need me to ask him to verify...”
“I’ve already told you where Chloe and I were,” Sabrina added, nervously hugging her phone to her chest. “S- so that leaves Lila!”
All eyes fell on the girl, who stiffened under the scrutiny.
“Hey, guys,” Alya started disapprovingly. “You can’t possibly think...”
“She’s the only one who hasn’t said anything yet,” Max pointed out.
“Yeah! Kinda suspicious how the quietest person in the room hasn’t said anything in her own defense yet, huh?” Chloe jeered. “Give it up, little miss innocence - where were you last night?”
“What about Marinette?” Lila pointed out instead, eyes narrowing. “She hasn’t said anything either.”
“Marinette’s sketchbook got destroyed,” Nino answered incredulously. “Why the heck do you think she’d sneak over here to destroy it herself? Can’t you see how distraught she is?”
“Yeah, she’s not the type to do that,” Alya confirmed, folding her arms. “What’s with you, girl? Are you implying that Marinette wanted to stir up drama?”
“W- well, I just--”
“I know where she was,” Adrien spoke up.
Marinette stiffened, finally daring a peek up at him. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she quickly looked back down when she felt a string of snot trickling between her nose and her sleeve.
“I-- er, I have a friend,” he said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. “They like to keep an eye on my friends for me, since I can’t always... y’know, be there to help. She was in her room the entire time.”
(It wasn’t like he was about to out himself as Cat Noir - but if they could believe Lila was Ladybug’s best friend, surely they’d believe him if he said he knew a certain mischievous cat hero, right?)
The students fell silent for several seconds. Alya narrowed her eyes at him suspiciously.
Then she grinned, nudging Marinette’s shoulder. “How sweet,” she cooed. “I guess our sunshine really does care a lot, huh?”
“W- well, you’re all my first friends,” he murmured bashfully. “If there’s something I can do to help, I want to be able to.”
Marinette’s face burned bright red to the tips of her ears, and she hid her face even more in her arm.
“That leaves you,” he continued, staring Lila almost defiantly in the face. “Where were you? You still haven’t defended yourself.”
“I- I was shopping,” she answered, tilting her chin and looking back through her lower lashes. “Then I went home and had dinner.”
“Anyone able to corroborate this?” Max questioned.
Everyone looked to the girls.
Alya slowly reached for her phone, a contemplative frown on her face as she scrolled through her messages.
“You told me you and your mom were going to take a day trip to Disneyland Paris with the Spanish ambassador,” she accused, showing the class her phone screen. “You never told me you were shopping.”
“I didn’t have enough money for what I wanted to do, plus the ambassador was busy and my mom got called back last minute, so I gave up and went to the mall,” Lila countered defensively. Almost too defensively. “I don’t have to report to anyone whenever I change my plans.”
“Oh, no, I’m not accusing you of...” Alya scrunched up her nose and shook her head. “That’s not the point. So Lila’s out too. Maybe it was someone else from another class? Who has a grudge against Marinette?”
“Didn’t Marc get akumatized that one time?” Adrien asked, turning to Nathanael.
“He forgave both of us,” he answered quickly with a shake of his head. “No way. Marc isn’t the type of person to hold grudges like that. He likes Marinette.”
“Is there anyone else? Jean? Mireille? Aurore?”
“No, not that I know of,” Nino slowly shook his head.
“Then who destroyed the book?” Max huffed in frustration. “None of this makes any sense. None of us hate her enough to do it, nobody else hates her enough to do it...”
“Wait,” Lila spoke up. “Wasn’t there an akuma last night?”
“Oh yeah, I forgot about that!” Adrien agreed almost a touch too loudly.
“How would you--?” Alya began, then realized her mistake and shook her head. “Oh yeah, overprotective dad.”
“And I keep tabs on the Ladyblog,” he admitted. “I like seeing Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat akumas when I can’t see them myself. It makes me feel safer.”
“Yeah, there was an akuma last night,” Rose remembered. Then she cupped her hands over her mouth. “You don’t think...?”
“I don’t think they had a grudge at Marinette, but it’s possible,” Juleka spoke up with a shrug. “But I would think the Ladybug Cure would heal the damage.”
“Unless someone did it while we were all on lockdown,” Alya surmised with a hum. “Ugh, this sucks. Max, you’re the genius, what do you think?”
“It’s hard to say,” the boy answered, taking his chin in his hand with narrowed eyes. “It’s too bad I left Markov at home today - he would have proven instrumental in spotting the loose thread.”
“Guys,” Marinette said weakly, “it’s... it’s fine. I’ll just try to salvage what I can and... I’ll get over it.”
“What?” Adrien stared at her in concern. “But... but Marinette, that’s your work. You’ve spent so much time on it.”
Nino cast him a suspicious glance, and the blond backpedaled, “I- I mean, I’ve seen you working on it during break. You can’t just throw it away.”
“I’m gonna have to redo everything anyways,” she pointed out, finally straightening herself up and wiping her eyes. As Nino handed her a handkerchief, she quietly thanked him and blew her nose.
“But...” Adrien looked incredibly lost as she folded the soft cotton and stuffed it into her pocket, promising to wash it as soon as she could.
Nino just shrugged, halfheartedly smiling and murmuring, “You need it more than me, dudette.”
“I know I’m not much of a... fashion artist, but... I can help?” Nathanael offered. “I know a few of those designs were for our comic...”
“You’re so brave, Marinette,” Lila gushed, and the noirette looked up to see the student giving her a sickly-sweet smile. “You really are a class representative. After all, it is just a sketchbook - at least whoever did it didn’t target you instead!”
It’s not just a sketchbook, she wanted to spit back at her. Instead she tried to calm herself the best she could by taking a deep breath and looking instead to Nathanael.
“I appreciate the offer, Nath,” she murmured. “Thanks.”
“Students!” Miss Bustier called as she made her way up the stairs. “What is everyone doing in the hall?”
“Miss Bustier,” Adrien spoke up firmly, “someone ruined Marinette’s sketchbook. We were trying to figure out which one of us did it.”
“Yeah,” Alya chimed in, folding her arms across her chest.
“Oh dear,” the teacher’s confused expression melted into one of concern as she turned to her star student. “Marinette? Are you alright?”
“I’m... I’ll be fine,” she reassured with a plastered-on smile. “It’s just a sketchbook, right? I can just start another one.”
“Make sure you watch out for akumas today,” Bustier warned, patting the girl’s shoulder before the students parted to let her into the classroom. “Now we need to begin class - the bell’s due to ring any minute now.”
As if on cue, the bell sounded, startling a few of them.
Alya chuckled, placing a hand on Marinette’s back. “C’mon, why don’t you sit with me today?”
“Am I chopped liver now?” Nino feigned hurt. “Babe. I got snotted on and you’re leaving me?”
“Oh hush, my bestie needs me more today.” She winked at the boy as she moved past. “If it makes you feel better, I’ll let you sit with me in the afternoon?”
“I guess I can take that,” the boy shrugged with a huff of a laugh. He turned to Adrien. “Girlfriends, I tell you.”
Adrien followed them with his eyes for a second before sighing. “I hope she’s gonna be okay,” he commented softly.
“Nette’s tough - if anyone’s gonna bounce back from it, it’d be her.” Nino nodded, nudging him with an elbow. “Besides, she has you to check up on her, right?”
“Of course! I’ll have to see how she’s doing at lunch.” A smile spread across the blond’s face, even as Chloe clung to him and all but dragged him into the room.
As he sat down in front of Alya and Marinette, he turned and gave her a meaningful look.
“Mari, I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I really am sorry. I had no idea this would happen.”
“It’s okay, not your fault,” she sighed. “I should’ve been more careful to take my book home last night.”
He stared into her face for several seconds before his lip quirked up into a half smile and he patted her hand, turning around before she could turn bright red.
Hopefully she’d heard what he was trying to say.
Sparing a glance at Lila, he gave her a disapproving frown before turning to face the board. He wouldn’t be so careless this time.
This was more than just lying - and Lila had no idea the war that she’d just started.

Lots of love for the Tweels today (possibly related to our latest drawing of them and Idia)! And some other asks :3
Anonymous asked:
why is wallace old there? < never watched scott pilgrim
We get to see his older version in one episode of the anime, and I just couldn’t ignore it. I had to draw him 😭
Anonymous asked:
have u every watched bungo stray dogs... i think u might like it
We watched like 2 seasons I think? It was ages ago, so I don’t remember anything. But we did like Akutagawa; we even have some old and ugly Akutagawa sketches somewhere in this blog…
Anonymous asked:
rip idia 😔
Yeah, that poor thing…
Anonymous asked:
jade and floyd give me extreme cuteness aggression 😭😭😭
I’m glad to hear that hehehe <3 Jade and Floyd themselves are such massive cuteness aggressors so they would relate lol
Anonymous asked:
NEED to inject mafioso fish into my bloodstream
Who doesn’t… a lot of people, probably, that sounds dangerous!
Anonymous asked:
you characterize (the tweels) a lot more sadistic than other people do (i like it!!!!)... im curious how you think they'd react to being petted on :)
Thank you so much! Yeah, we always loved giving characters a bit of a darker twist to their personalities, but honestly with the Tweels it’s way too natural and pretty much canon in a lot of ways lol We really really love this about them. When it comes to cruel, unfair, messed up and freaky scenarios, they’re the perfect fit. I’m glad you like it!
To answer your question, well these two are unpredictable, but in general I feel like they don’t like being touched. Or rather, they would prefer to be the ones who’s petting, because they’re annoying like that lol But who knows, sometimes they might even demand petting.
(did I understand your question right? If not, I apologise)
kitsunegdx asked:
Hi hello hi this may sound like a dumb question but what is the story behind the Friday the 13th image of Azul n Idia :3? I am obsessed with the composition and was curious if there was a story
Hi! <3 It’s not dumb at all.
I explained it in this reply! Long story short, there isn’t much of a story, but…
furubatsu asked:
In between sending that ask about the Trey Vignette and you answering, I managed to go back and find it. I play the US version of the game so IDK if it's different in the Japanese version. It's the R School Unifrom Vignette "Open your mouths".
It starts with Ace and Deuce (I can't believe Ace was part of this and I didn't remember. RIP I him guess) brushing their teeth before lights out, Ace is done but Deuce reminds him of some insane rule like "You gotta brush twice on tuesdays" or something and Ace laughs it off, not like Riddle will know except Trey is there and tells them he won't tell Riddle if they do it right and does the mouth inspection. Deuce just gives a confued "Um??" while Ace calls him out like "That is NOT in the rulebook", it causes Trey to realise he's letting his Weirdness(tm) show and he explains that his siblings are young enough that playfully making sure they brushed properly is normal and he just kinda did it on instinct. Though Trey does offer to "help" the boys brush their teeth after that, it then ends with Trey "accidentally" doing another oral inspection on the boys and this time the noises/reactions they have doe imply he did something to their mouths ("Awough?!" reads more like the noise of something being put in your moth than a simple "Um" at least) so....
Thanks for the recap and for bringing this whole thing up! We watched the vignette, and oh god…
The more I look at Trey, the more “a psycho pervert who learned how to pretend to be a normal human being” sounds like something that could describe him lol Some people (like Ace or Vil) keep sensing that there is something sus about him, some people (like Rook or Idia) know for the fact that there is something wrong about him, and some people just think that he is a swell fellow that’s always very supportive and caring and wouldn’t do anything weird (like Deuce and Riddle) and I absolutely love it lol
The fact that Trey just kept going “oops sorry it’s a habit”, like is this that much of an automatic thing to you??
Mister Clover, don’t put your fingers in their mouths… alright, you can keep it in Deuce’s.

What a Time to be Alive
Fic by @newlesbianprideflag | Art by @teabagboy
Teen | 20k words
Mike is haunted, Will is haunting.
Or: when he was 12 years old, Will Byers was taken to the Upside Down, and with no Eleven-ex-Machina, he stayed there, and was assumed dead. Through sheer force of will, he finds ways to contact Mike and his mom and brother through lights and electricity and, as he spends more time there, ways to manifest physically. He remains invisible and inaudible for the most part, but present enough to write notes and occasionally be touched, heard, or even seen, in flashes. He becomes a haunting, constant presence in the life of Mike, who never wanted to let him go in the first place, and they fall in love through notes and music and whatever touch Will can manifest. (Mike, meanwhile, is somewhat adopted into the Byers family in Will’s place.) When they’re about 15, Vecna gains power in UD, threatening Will’s way of unlife, and, related, Eleven stumbles her way into Hawkins. Mike, with Eleven (and Joyce’s and etc)’s help, goes into the Upside Down to save Will, is confronted by Vecna who tries to convince him that Will is dead. Will saves him, and though they aren’t able to defeat Vecna, they return to Hawkins. Mike and Will, back together, confess their love and kiss and even with whatever will come next, with Vecna and the Upside Down that did not want to let Will go, they have each other, and that will be enough.
Warnings: Temporary Character Death, Mentions of Homophobia, some Internalized Homophobia, Grief, brief UD-typical horror

Read an excerpt below:
So, Mike has a ghost, and it doesn’t bear much thought.
“Did you draw that?” Dustin asks in a hushed, library-appropriate tone.
“What happened to you being shit at art?” Max follows with immediately, in a much less library-appropriate tone.
What Dustin’s pointing to, and what Max is clearly referencing, is a small sketch of a three-headed dragon in the corner of his math notebook — one head is breathing fire on the quadratic equation, one has its open jaw around an x variable, ready to bite, and one is lazing, likely asleep, on one low college-rule line. It’s fucking adorable, and no, Mike didn’t draw it.
A ghost did.
Mike shrugs. “Yeah.” Max looks unconvinced. “Well, I copied it.”
“From what?” Max asks, more genuine curiosity than light derision.
Mike doesn’t say anything for a second (he’s still not a great liar, about the ghost thing, even though he really should be by now), which is long enough for him to catch the bow of Lucas’ head, the way his fingers skim the corner of the page, face tangled up. “It looks like what…” Lucas trails off, then clears his throat. “You copied it from Will’s old sketchbook?” Dustin winces with the name, and Mike’s sure he does about the same. He’s surprised, honestly, that Lucas was able to recognize it, and then immediately feels guilty for being surprised. It isn’t like Lucas would forget about him. It isn’t like Will is something he and he alone carries, even if its different for him. He didn’t leave any of them.
“Yeah,” Mike confirms, voice a bit caught-in-the-throat. “It’s...” he trails off. He doesn’t know what he would say next, and expects his reticence to be read as an end to the conversation. As inescapable as Will and his absence is, they don’t really like talking about him. Max never even met him, and it fucks with Lucas and Dustin. So. Quiet.
“It’s good, though,” Dustin says, head tilted to the side, a bit unsure. The undertone — better than he ever got a chance to be — is unspoken. “You think he would’ve been an artist?”
“Maybe,” Lucas offers, leaving back and looking away at the nothing that surrounds them. Cramped library shelves of books none of them have the time to read. Old chairs. High school.
On Mike’s hand, the ghost taps his assent.

Mr Evershed x Student!reader - open your mind
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part two:
A/N: so I did decide to do a part two to this monstrosity of a fic idea and I have no regrets 😌💜 also I am planning a Saul/Farah x student!reader with a HTTYD crossover if anyone’s interested in that 💜
Mr Evershed went home that night thinking about what Todo had told him, and since it was the weekend, he decided to go back.
He parked in the same spot and he made his way to the village that was bustling with life.
“So he did return.” Todo smiled.
“Well, I want (Y/N) to come back to school, maybe I can convince them if they get tired of seeing me around here.”
Todo laughed a little bit and gestured for the teacher to follow, so he did, and they made their way up to a house.
Todo walked in, and called out your name and waited for a response.
“Hm. They might be out back.”
Todo walked through the house and so did Mr Evershed, looking at all of the drawings and photos and sketches along your walls.
“Smart kid our (Y/N). Gifted in mechanics. Help us build whatever we need.”
“They’ve got a knack for creating things. Should’ve seen what they made for April fools day.” Mr Evershed chuckled.
They walked outside and Todo looked around.
Toothless was laid on the sun, and he looked up when the two men came out the door, titling his head a little bit.
Mr Evershed kept his distance and watched as Todo walked over, running his hand along the dragons head.
“Where are they Toothless?” He asked.
Toothless chirped and lifted his wing, showing you fast asleep against the dragons side and Todo chuckled softly.
He looked back at Mr Evershed.
“Come on, it’s alright.”
“I’m uh.. I’m good back here.” Mr Evershed said.
Todo rolled his eyes a little bit and walked back over.
“If you want to earn their trust, you have to earn his as well. If toothless respects you, (Y/N) might too.”
Todo walked back over to the dragon and crouched down, gently shaking your shoulder.
You grumbled a little and rolled over.
“Toothless.”
Todo stood up and so did the dragon, and you hit the floor with a grunt.
Toothing leant down, gently grabbing you by the back of your hoodie and pulled you up, setting you on your feet.
“Toothless…” you grumbled.
You leant against the dragon slowly slumping back down.
Toothless leant down and he looked at you before he licked your face.
“Oh that’s disgusting!”
You stood up and wiped your face with your hoodie.
“Oh toothless! That’s gross! It’s all over my hoodie!”
You pulled your hoodie off and tossed it aside and the dragon laughed at you, so you flicked some of the silva at him making him grumble and walk away.
“Chief? Why’re you here?”
“You’ve got a visitor.”
He gestured to Mr Evershed and you huffed shaking your head.
“Go away.”
You walked inside and toothless grabbed your hoodie, and walked over to the back door and Mr Evershed quickly went inside away from the dragon.
“Go away, I don’t want you here.”
“Well, unfortunately for you, I have nothing else to do.”
“I’ll.. I’ll call the police.”
“Will you?”
You looked at him, and huffed.
“No…” you grumbled.
He chuckled a little, following you through to a little workshop that should have been a dining room, and you started to pick things up.
“What’s all this?” He asked.
You looked at him, taking the object from his hand and you set it back down.
“Tail for toothless.”
“Tail?”
You pulled out a sketch and handed it to him.
He looked at it.
“This is really good (Y/N).”
“Blueprint for his tail. When I found him someone shot him down, he couldn’t fly.”
“Shot him down?”
You nodded your head and picked up a screwdriver and sat down on the chair, and he looked at you.
“Yeah. Hunters probably trying to find the island they come from. Sometimes the dragons come over this way looking for food. Found him a few hours away.”
“So they’re not born here?”
“No. We gain their trust, our dragons choose us. He chose me.”
You picked up the tail and stretched it out a few times before setting it back down and grabbed the measuring tape.
You walked back outside and toothless looked at you and walked over.
He sat down and let you measure his tail and you wondered back inside.
“Why would someone hunt them?”
“Scales, bones, trying to force them them to work for them. There’s different reasons.”
“So they don’t have to be here.”
“All them aside from toothless can leave whenever they want. It’s why I made him this, so he can fly around without me.”
You measured the tail and picked it up, walking outside and you set the tail down, sitting on the floor.
Mr Evershed sat on the step and watched how calm and relaxed you were around the creature.
You put the tail next to him and attached it, and toothless looked at him, moving it a little bit and looked at you.
“Well, go on then bud, give it a shot.”
Toothless chirped and bounded about the garden and you smiled as you watched him.
“Go on, try fly.”
Toothless looked at you with big eyes, and he wiggled his body a little.
“Yeah! You got this!”
Toothless ran around for a little longer and he finally jumped on the shed roof, and he flapped his wings, taking off in the air and he roared.
You jumped up, cheering as you watched him and Mr Evershed smiled and clapped his hands.
“Wow. How does it work?”
You turned to him and began to explain the ins and outs of the tail and how it worked without you guiding it.
“You know if you come back to school we can get you the grades you need for a good college or university, get you a job doing things like this.”
You frowned a little.
“Ain’t going back. Already told you.”
He sighed.
“(Y/N) you can’t just drop out of school, you know that.”
“I don’t care. I don’t need school sir. We don’t use money here, school don’t mean nothing.”
“Okay but when you go out there, into the rest of the world, what’ll you do then? You’ll have no grades, no money.”
“I don’t need that world. I got all I need here.”
You barged past him and left the house.
He called your name and followed you into the street.
“(Y/N) you’ve got so much potential, don’t throw it away over a few nasty words.”
You spun around.
“But it’s not about that is it sir! People will never accept us, they never will! We have to hide away because of this, why do you think we keep the dragons hidden on the other side if the hill?!”
“Then teach them about your culture. Maybe not about you know the dragons and all.”
You laughed a little and he smiled.
“So why dragons?”
You looked at him and shrugged, wondering through the streets to some fields behind the houses.
“We’ve always had dragons. It’s a practice that’s been passed down throughout hundreds of years. We traveled the world before anyone else. It’s..”
You stopped and sat on a bench and he sat down next to you.
“It’s different. Not like being in an aeroplane, like.. like you’re free. You can touch the sky, see things like you never thought you would.”
You sighed a little, running your hand up and down your arm, fingers tracing your tattooed.
Toothless came soaring back down and he ran through the long grass of the field happily.
“Having a dragon it’s not.. it’s not a pet sir. It’s like.. like a soulmate. You fit like two pieces of a puzzle, you have to trust one another with everything. He needs to trust you to guide him, and you need to trust him to catch you if you fall.”
“So that stunt you pulled the other day?”
“Trust building. I know that if I ever fall he’s not going to let him hit the ground. I don’t have anyone else to do that for me. I’ve got no one else who’ll catch me..”
Mr Evershed looked at you.
“You’re not alone (Y/N).”
“I don’t have any friends at school, I’m the oldest out of all the kids here. I am alone. It’s just me and toothless against the world.”
Toothless perked up at the mention of his name.
“Yeah, just us against the world innit bud.”
He happily bounded over and sat a few feet in front of you.
You stood up and placed your hand on his head, turning to look at the teacher.
“I’m okay with it you know? Being alone. I’m used it it now.”
“You don’t have to be alone.”
You furrowed your brows a little in confusion.
“Come on, give it another chance.” He smiled.
You looked at him and then looked at toothless.
“Tell you what. You go for a flight on toothless, I’ll come back to school.”
“Okay. Doesn’t seem that hard.”
He stopped up and took a step closer, and toothless flattened his ears, letting out a small growl and Mr Evershed immediately stopped.
“Maybe dragons aren’t my thing…”
You snickered a little, shaking your head at him.
“You can’t just walk up to a dragon that doesn’t know you Mr Evershed. They see it as a threat. You have to let them come to you, like this.”
You stood in front of toothless and held out your hand, turning your head away and toothless tapped his head against your hand.
“You can’t just expect to be able to get in the back of a dragon and take flight.”
You stepped away and looked at him.
“Trust is earned sir, not given.”
He nodded his head and reached his hand a little and pulled it away.
“Just.. just trust yourself. If you do this I’ll come back to school for a week.”
“Alright. Deal.”
He walked next to you and looked at you, and you crossed your arms as you looked at him.
“I never said getting me back into school was going to easy sir. You want me to trust you? My best friend needs to trust you too.”
“Okay. You come back to school, I’ll come here every weekend and learn more about your culture and dragon, deal?”
“Deal.”
He smiled and looked at the dragon, holding out his hand and toothless growled a little.
“Don’t look at him. Just trust him.”
Mr Evershed looked at you.
“Did you have to do this?”
“Yeah. Took me a few attempts to gain his trust.”
You glanced at toothless who was looked at Mr Evershed’s hand, and he flicked his eyes to you before turning back to your teacher.
He shuffled a little on his feet and he leant forward, gently touching the teachers hand.
“Only took you one attempt. Nature dragon rider you sir.”
Mr Evershed laughed a little looking at toothless, and toothless pulled away, walking behind you he sat behind you.
“I’ll come on Monday but there’s an issue.”
“Which is?”
“We set fire to my uniform.”
Mr Evershed sighed, rolling his eyes at you.
“I’ll sort that.”
Toothless resting his head on yours, and Mr Evershed smiled.
So, all he had to do was gain the dragons trust, and maybe you would trust him enough to let him help you

Uh I’m stuck at a wedding with boring music I can’t dance to so I’m impulsively deciding to drop my Magni and Modi redesigns for my au so I can just get it done with bc 1.I’m shy and embarrassed and I keep putting it off, and 2.uh fuck you💕
Tumblr media
OOOOOOOOOO SPOOKY REDESIGNSSSS
(Things will be a bit vague and out of context bc… spoilers for my fic lmao)
Considering the fact that the Thor family is now in Midgard In Fimbulwinter, these bitches did not get the spell they’d need to “stay toasty” in the cold, so… they’re just freezing lol. Magni and Modi’s weapons were also revoked after being considered total failures in the eyes of Odin, and now they just use weapons they stole from the armory before escaping Midgard. Another note, they now have different fighting styles in case it wasn’t obvious. I decided to take inspiration from the Warlord and Raider from For Honor bc… they’re cool, and also bc my brother is a nerd and he’s helping me “choreograph” some fight scenes lmao.
Uh on elaboration on Modi, uhh after fully recovering from death, let’s just say he doubles down on his pathetic ass and in the process, morphs into a form of his father. Also his haircut was smthn forced by Thrud, he didn’t want it but was quick to give up fighting lmao. Oh yeah I also wanted to make him look more like his part: loser who hides in his blanky/j
On Magni, obvsly, no differences are drastic or whatever, but one thing I will say is that Magni now has a scar of the wound he died of. Same applies to Modi. Also also, just pretend I drew his face tats, I I literally hate drawing them I’m barely bothering at all anymore 😭. Uhhh other thing, Magni fucking hates shirts. He just hates shirts. He refuses to put them on LMAO. That’s why he just wears a pelt around his waist. Yes, he is cold he just never wants to admit it OSJDKSJ. Smol edit: I FORGOR TO ADD HIS HAND WRAPS IN THE DRAWING EKDJJD he wears hand wraps idk if that’s what they’re called I’m just gonna hope u know what I’m talking abt, you’ll see them in future drawings LMAO
Ok and uh sketch dump now except they’re all pr old, and I was still practicing drawing these ugly mfs. (I still am but I’m a bit more confident in it now)
1 and 2 will stay out of context bc I think it’s funny
3: young Magni
4 and 5 are just…. Yeah.
(Also Magni was originally gonna have some more scars from Kratos’ axe, but I just simplified it to just one on his face.)

Hi sweet Natalie! ❤️
Finally worked my last shift before Christmas, so I’m celebrating by sending you some Kinkmas asks 😁❤️
For the first one, I was thinking Dilf!Steve and tattoo artist!reader with the dialogue “it’s bold of you to assume I haven’t eaten my entire advent calendar” ☃️🎄🎅🏼🤶🏼
Hope that you’ve had a great day ❤️
Tumblr media
Got this one from @misc-incorporated as well so doubling up!
I can definitely see this taking place during the same Christmas as the previous drabble I did for them…
Tumblr media
Steve chuckled when he struggled to get Grant into his PJs, ruffling the toddler’s hair once he finally did up all the snaps and setting him down on the floor so he could waddle off to go find you. The kid squealed when he saw you curled up in front of the fire with a mug of tea in your hands, running to you and screaming “mommy” over and over until you put your cup down and pulled him into your lap so you could kiss his cheeks.
“No cookies, sir, daddy just brushed your teeth.” You winked at Steve when Grant tried to grab one of the sweets off your plate. “Let’s do yours and your sister’s calendars then story time.”
“Hey bug, you all washed up?” Steve hugged Sarah when she skipped into the room, grinning at her when she nodded before sitting next to you and tucking you into his side. “Okay, who’s going first?”
As always, the kids agreed that Molly would go first, making sure she sat patiently while they opened the little compartment and unwrapped her gingerbread man treat for the day. They both wanted to go next though, so you helped Grant unfold the stegosaurus and add it to the dinosaur scene while Steve and Sarah put together the sugarplum fairy.
“It looks good you guys, me next?” Steve grinned and rested his cheek on the top of your head while he reached to pull open the day’s drawer and admired the charcoal pencils that were waiting for him. “Perfect, may have to sketch something tomorrow. Alright, mommy’s turn!”
“No, that’s okay.” You cleared your throat and took an innocent sip of tea, avoiding Steve’s gaze while you scratched Molly’s ears. “Let’s read, go pick a story, kids!”
“Baby, they spent a long time picking out the shortbread calendar I think they…” Steve just snorted when they ran off to pick a book without acknowledging you, shaking his head and kissing your hair while you settled in closer. “Or not. Why don’t you want to open your calendar?”
“Well, Steven.” You tilted your head up to look at him and bit your lip. “You got your pregnant wife twenty-five delicious cookies, it’s incredibly bold of you to assume I haven’t eaten my entire advent calendar. It’s even more incredible that I managed to hold off for ten days.”
“Oh my god, yeah okay.” Steve cupped your cheek affectionately and kissed the tip of your nose, looking to the side when the kids ran back in and taking the book they had chosen. “Forgot how hungry you get when you’re knocked up.”
“Not my fault, it’s your freakishly large babies, and now I have two of… oh!” You jumped a little when you felt a jolt in your belly, grinning when Steve gave you a worried look and grabbing his hand to place it on your stomach. “They’re kicking, a lot! Come feel you guys, your brother and sister are awake.”

“With Jim, that’s a huge transformation,” Taylor says about star Ortiz’s onscreen evolution. “It was a really exciting one. We talked about it a lot with Vico, and I wanted to bring in a whole lot of ropes and things that they would’ve found on the ship to make an outfit out of and a giant fishhook that we made a belt out of.” When it comes to the Revenge crew’s ensembles, there’s a focus on found materials doubling as clothing, “so sort of scrounging and finding elements around pirate ships that they could make a costume out of,” Taylor elaborates, noting that the pirates are being resourceful in “almost the same way that drag queens do.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it came to styling Ortiz in their costume alongside the other crew members, Hennah says, “Vico had a great new hairstyle, which we were really excited about, and we cut that early on in our testing phase. Then they had to hide [it]. Everywhere they went, they were wearing a hat.” It was all about “getting the right balance between the amount of hair on top and the amount of hair that we took [off] on the side,” she adds of Jim’s mohawk sported by Ortiz, which can be seen in the sketch and behind-the-scenes test photos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it comes to tattoos, Hennah says, “I try to talk about their personal heritage and where they’ve come from and if there’s anything that they want in terms of tattoos.” For Sami, Hennah sought out designs with Fijian and Indian influence to reflect the actor’s personal heritage. “I approached a Henna artist, and we just got her to do a drawing of some designs,” Hennah reveals. “And then Madeline and a few of the other makeup team [members] and I spent about four or five hours just turning those little puzzle pieces into the tattoos.” Sami loved her tattoos so much that Hennah says she was told Sami “is thinking about getting one of the tattoos for real.”
So they’re always just wearing the same thing and getting dirtier and dirtier and dirtier.” When a pirate dons a new garment though, it’s usually stolen.

I need more next gen. I am starving. Pls. What are UD/varigo like with their niblings. Is Eugene the fun uncle. Who had a hero crush on Hugo. Stuff like that.
IVE BEEN MEANING TO DO SOME CONTENT OF THIS FOR A WHILE HEHEHE THANK U….. i’ve been collecting sketches for this for a while so it’s gonna be a long one
emery loves their aunties and uncle and rapunzel and her partners all spoil them to DEATH its so fucking cute
they’re very into botanical and herbal sciences, so she does a lot more hands-on and in the moment studies than varian and hugo, who usually stay cooped up in their lab most of the day. rapunzel especially loves going out with her on hikes or nature walks whenever her dads are busy, and they do field journals and stuff…. sometimes others will join them on their little trips but for the most part it’s just something the two of them do together. they garden a lot too, obviously, and raps listens to her infodump for hours on end
Tumblr media
em also absolutely ADORES her aunt cassie, as she has dubbed her (it definitely got varian a few death glares at first, but he swears up and down he didn’t teach her anything). she loves hearing all the stories about her adventures and is especially fascinated by her cartography. cass also loves to collect weird things, like feathers, funny looking rocks or crystals, animal/fish bones, reptile skins or wings of insects, various things from deceased creatures she’s come across on her travels. emery finds this stuff incredibly cool, since they love animals
whenever cassandra travels out of corona for a bit she brings home lots of flowers and herbs and things for them to study, along with plenty of pretty trinkets and baubles for both them and the twins <3
that’s jusr like one of her love languages she’s like a crow. just gives people shiny rocks and sticks she found, and sometimes jewels/little hairclips/rings/generally very fancy things she definitely stole. sometimes nobody knows what to do with them but they keep them because they love her
eugene is absolutely the fun uncle but like, only when yong’s not around bc he easily solos eugene any day. no hard feelings it just is what it is
but yeah eugene always does the best storytime voices, especially with the flynn rider books bc hes been doin this for YEARS hes got DECADES of experience bro. sometimes the kids encourage him to act out the scenes in which he tries his best but fails miserably while lamenting about his old man bones
rapunzel and cassandra both laugh at him and sometimes will try to pick up where he left off
and, speaking of flynn, with another kid in the castle eugene finally gets another chance to play his favorite game: how long can i have this child convinced that i am the REAL flynn rider in the flesh
Tumblr media
the answer is quite a while and it will eventually lead a very pissed off alchemist to storm into your room ready to beat the shit out of you
eugene definitely helps them get away with shit especially considering he’s trying to get revenge on the years varian and hugo spent being menaces to the twins. it is actually CRUCIAL that hugo and varian stay childless for a good 5-7 years after the twins are born because they get that long to be Goofy Ass Uncles and nothing more
Tumblr media
no bc theyd literally be the worst most irresponsible mfs imaginable bc they’re both fucking around the whole time trying to impress the kids but they start getting rlly overly competitive about who they like more and fighting about it while the twins are just along for the ride
so. they DO still end up being the favorite uncles just. not for the reasons they think
they’d be like, showing the kids all sorts of projects they have around the lab but theyre just so much more hyperfocused on one upping each other- varian would do tons of interactive experiments so they can get involved and be hands on with everything. it’s just simple stuff obviously, baby science
but hugo on the other hand is more keen to giving them eye candy. fancy machines with cool lights and noises and the like. he does this with kids in town already, they always know him by name and like to play with olivia so he knows how to get the attention of children, but varian thinks it’s cheating so they get into a really stupid argument about it
varian: HAHAHA hugh you’re KIDDING right. that’s nothing they dont even know what’s going on its just a big machine that makes fancy lights and noises
hugo: ??? ok but that’s all you really need isn’t it?? it’s not like kids are all that hard to impress. plus you cant get on my case when yours is just some vial that changes color. you can at LEAST give them something cooler than that
varian: ??? HUGO I CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH THEYRE LIKE FOUR😭 at least MINE is educational. it teaches them about alchemy while helping them develop critical thinking and motor skills
hugo: oh my gods var it’s not that deep😑 like work smarter not harder you know what i mean?? it’s not like they’re our kids we don’t have to worry about that stuff
varian: IT’S NOT EVEN ABOUT THAT THOUGH it’s about captivation and keeping their attention. kids have really short attention spans, fancy gadgets may look cool but they’ll get boring in like five seconds. if you get them involved with the process and allow them to understand the craft they’ll be WAY more interested and-
varian goes into a rant before hugo cuts him off being all “ok fine well if you’re so confident lets ask what THEY think” and varians like “FINE” and so hugo turns around in a huff and realizes both the toddlers are Gone.
and he’s just “,,,,,hey um. hey var. love….where did the twins go” and varian whips his head around like “YOU FUCKING LOST THEM????”
so obviously they both freak the fuck out and are scouring the entire lab making sure they arent off drinking some dangerous chemicals or some shit but like, both of them are smart as fuck so it turns out they just walked off in the middle of their argument and went to go steal sweets from the kitchen. cass, raps, and eugene all chew them out for it later. they get more responsible when emery comes along but like….yk not that much AUDJSJDHDSNS
on the topic of stupid uncles, i should mention that though they love all of them dearly…lance is kind of the favorite like 90% of the time
cuz see eugene along with hugo still continue to be a bit overprotective and paranoid with the kids at times. varian is usually very laid back but when emery hits her teen years he starts to worry a lot more, while hugo mellows out considering that’s where vars own life went downhill LMAO. if there’s anyone who will indulge them and let them get away with ANYTHING it’s lance.
there’s such a blatant and vast difference between your first time parents who are always overthinking everything and worrying about whether they’re good parents or not and your cool, unmarried uncle who already adopted and raised two teenage kids in his 20s, is in the prime of his life and doesn’t technically have to take responsibility for you at all
Tumblr media
granted though, the twins have had everyone wrapped around their little fingers since their birth
Tumblr media
immediately after the twins were born, everyone in the castle (and even those who weren’t) all collectively pitched in to help as much as they possibly could. especially considering rapunzel struggled a lot mentally in the first few months of her kids’ life, the whole family was very determined to make the time as stress-free as their abilities would allow
one thing they found out quickly was that the twins absolutely adored varian. which obviously confused the alchemist and left him feeling quite helpless considering 1. kids hardly ever liked him (he usually got bullied by them) and 2. because of this he. didn’t really know what to do with kids. ryder once fell asleep in his arms and he lowkey panicked bc he had NO idea what he was supposed to do
when the anxious new parents were finally able to let people be alone with the babies, varian ended up being a pretty regular sitter. to the point where he would have little baby slings in case he needed to hold them while he was working on small projects or something. people would even frequently assume they were his and he eventually got tired of explaining they were actually his niblings so he just let people think whatever
before theyre born hugo jokes around like “lmaooo i dont even like kids” but he’s lying thru his fucking TEETH. hed die for them.
also alina thinks hugo is SO fucking cool (obviously considering he cut her hair based off of his) but also em admires hugo more than either of the twins could ever possibly comprehend. i havent drawn it enough since most of what i’ve drawn of them is them bullying each other but thats just their love language of course emery picked up on it. past the age of like 10 emery would rather die than admit how much she looks up to her father but hugo Knows <3
Tumblr media
its not to say em doesnt admire varian, because she loves both her dads equally!!! but because hugo also came from an orphaned past being with him made emery feel a lot more safe and understood during her first few years at the castle. hugo knew what it was like to suddenly go from having nothing to having Everything and he knew it could be really stressful, especially for a little kid….having someone who understood that was really comforting to emery.
because of this though hugo tended to be the paranoid mother hen type, especially compared to varian who was a LOT more laid back and wanted to give them the freedom to trust their own judgement and make mistakes. it was tough to balance these styles at first but emery genuinely loved them both, even if hugo’s fussiness was a bit annoying sometimes
in fact the reason emery dubbed hugo “mama” in the first few months was not because they could sense his massive amounts of Gender (well like, partially, but it was about a month or so after that before the ‘are you a boy or a girl?’ question finally came up), but instead because hugo’s constant doting on her reminded them of their birth mother
varian and hugo dont know much about emery’s birth family or what happened to them, considering she doesn’t say much in her younger years and eventually forgets most of what she didn’t; but she seems to have cared a lot about her birth mother, and frequently still misses her presence.
whenever those waves of emotion are too much for her to bear, hugo is there to comfort her- and he assures her that despite never even meeting them, he still misses his birth family, too, but that it will get easier, and no matter what, she’ll always have people who love and support her
anyways thats all i have rn *opens my head and puts my brain back in it like the little frankenstien dude from nightmare before christmas* idk when ill have more content of them but the next time i do it’ll probably be that drawing with rapunzel kissing both her partners on the lips and both of them being so romantically in love with her /hj

Episode 1.01
“Yeah, I can pick that up.” She pursed her lips and closed her eyes as she listened to the voice on the other end of the call. “Mom, I got it. I know what size Fallon wears.”
She tapped the end call button and dropped her phone into the opening of her tote bag. She paused for a moment before collecting her bearings of where she was in the mall. She was only a few stores away from Imagination, the children’s clothing store. Pop music filtered over the different speakers until she was closer to the store, and she heard more of the kidz bop version of songs, than the actual songs.
The store smelled like cotton candy; the walls decorated with pictures of kids who looked like they had just walked off the set of a Disney Channel show. Bright smiles, perfectly done hair, bold colored clothing. This wasn’t really her first choice to shop for Fallon, but it was the one her mother wanted her to shop at. Try and keep Fallon a little girl as long as possible, she was almost a teenager though and most of what was available at the shop screamed preschooler instead.
“Shopping for Fallon?”
The friendly voice caused her to turn around, “Hey Maggie, yeah, Mom wants her to have some more cardigans.”
The blond nodded as she led her deeper into the store, “These should work. They’re a bit mature, classic, they should grow with Fallon for a year or two before she becomes a teenager and wants to pick her own stuff.”
She chuckled, “Oh, I sure did. I think that might be why my mom is so insistent on what exactly Fallon wears. Trying to keep her tame before she does something silly and dyes her hair teal.”
“Abby Adams with teal hair? I can’t see that.”
“I was fifteen, I was rebelling.” She searched through the rack for Fallon’s size, “But things happen, like becoming an older sister suddenly.”
“You’re a good older sister.” Maggie reminded her as she pulled out two cardigans in different colors and handed them to Abby, “if Fallon asks these are very Taylor Swift.”
Abby smiled, “She’ll love them.”
“Let me know if you need to find anything else.” Maggie looked around the store to see a customer going towards the register.
“Thanks Maggie, hopefully this is it.” She moved around the area of the store, finding a few more things that would suit her sister, and her mother would approve of.
After she paid and left the store, she made her way to the bookstore. Right on the front table was a display of all the books written by Chad Davis, a giant picture of him. He was a hometown name after all. She picked up the latest title and turned over the back, reading the synopsis; Teenage Wick wasn’t sure he could survive without his girlfriend Sketch. Yet their families kept them apart. Years later Sketch has been kidnapped, and Wick is an FBI agent sent to find her. Will he find more than just his first love?
Rolling her eyes she opened the dedication page, “To the real Sketch, I’m so sorry.” She kept the book in her hand as she moved to another table, looking for a copy of Fourth Wing for her book club. She found one, collecting it with a couple of other books she had found for herself as well as a few she found for Fallon and a book her mother wanted for her own book club.
After leaving the bookstore she walked towards the food court, stopping in at the coffee house. She needed a caffeine boost. “Abby, here you go.” She hadn’t even ordered yet and her best friend since the third grade was handing her a cup.
“Thank you, how did you know I was coming in?” She took a sip of the cold coffee, feeling her body relax as she ingested it.
Pam smiled, “I saw you pass by earlier. I knew you wouldn’t leave without stopping in. Mom, have you shopping for the sister again?”
“And some other errands.” Abby shrugged, “I had to get some stuff for my book club, for Mom’s too so at least I got to the bookstore.”
“You get Chad Davis’s new book? I heard that Marcy wants to make it next months pick.” She rolled her eyes, “Like that is going to help win over his brother Kip, or anyone in that family. I don’t think Chad has stepped foot in Pinon Hallow since high school.”
Abby shrugged, “No clue, and I saw it. I don’t know, his stuff isn’t my usual read.”
“Neither is Fourth Wing.” Pam snickered, “Just be glad that’s not the one your mom will be reading.”
“Wait why?” Abby took another sip of her coffee, “Her book club is doing some Hockey Romance or something. I think it was called Icebreaker.”
Pam covered her mouth with her hand, “Oh Mrs. Adams is going to be reading Icebreaker? Who picked it?”
“I don’t know, why?”
“It’s supposed to be spicy; I mean so is Fourth Wing, but that from what I have seen online is tame in comparison.”
Abby put her cup down and started laughing, “Constance Radford picked it, I think. Oh, I bet she has no idea.” She looked in the bag from the bookstore, “Oh I bet she saw the cover and thought it was just cute and sweet. I might have to just steal this copy from my mom once she realizes what it is and is scandalized.”
Pam put her arm around Abby’s shoulder, “I’m going to be honest; I don’t think your mom will be scandalized, but it will be glorious when Constance Radford is, isn’t this for the Church book club?”
“Yeah, it is.” Abby tried to keep the laugh in, but she couldn’t. “Oh, that will be a fun night when they meet.”
Pam didn’t respond, she kept her eyes on the guy walking by. He had several other guys their age walking with them. One had a camera out.
“Seriously Pam, still? Do you not remember what he was like in high school? Plus, have you seen what his videos are like? Maybe it’s an act, but I doubt it. He’s still the same slimeball he was when we were younger.” Abby watched her friend; she could see the defeated expression coming over her.
“I could fix him.” Pam finally suggested.
Abby groaned, “Oh Pam, you don’t want a man you need to fix. You want a man, that wants to build something with you. Create a life with you. Not one that just wants to create content.”
“You know he tried to revive the cinnamon challenge last week.” Pam kept her eyes as he stood in front of the shoe store across the hall.
Abby shook her head, “Think about all the stupid stuff Kip did when we were in high school. We’re in our late twenties now Pam, he’s still doing that stupid kind of stuff and posting it on YouTube.”
“Point taken.” Pam shrugged, “Are you going to join us at Moonlight tonight?”
“I don’t know. I must finish a project that’s due on Monday.”
“Then why are you at the mall right now?” Pam countered.
Abby looked at her bags, “Had to get out of the house. Mom was working from home too and it was just too much.”
“Move out. Why are you still living with your parents?”
Abby sighed, “I’m a freelancer, I don’t have steady work now. I’m just trying to save what I can so one day I am not worried about money.”
“I could always give you a good deal on an apartment.” Pam reminded her.
Abby looked towards the fountain in the middle of the food court, “I know, but right now I need to still be at home.”
“Whatever you say. Please tell me you at least got Fallon something cute and not like a four-year-old would wear?”
“Yeah, Maggie helped me out a bit.” Abby felt a chill through her body for a moment, someone near the fountain caught her eye, but they were gone before she could see who it was.
Pam heard her name called from behind the coffee bar, “Text me later.”
“I will, I got to get going anyways.” Abby thanked her for the coffee again before leaving the coffee house. The mall was surprisingly busy for a weekday afternoon as she made her way past the fountain towards the outdoor promenade of stores, past the valet parking towards the lot. She felt the wind blow, and a shiver go through her body as she got into her Jeep Grand Cherokee.
She attempted to ignore the feeling as she started the engine. Maybe it was just the conversation with Pam, or the display in the bookstore. Yeah, that was probably it.
####
Maggie checked the time on her phone as she left the store. She was feeling rushed this afternoon as she made her way down the hall to the bookstore. She had scoured her bookshelves the past two nights looking for her copy of Emma, only to get a text message from her sister that she’d borrowed it for a book report.
Normally Maggie wouldn’t care, and would be thrilled that Cassie cared to read, let alone read Jane Austin, however it was this month’s selection for the book club she took part in. They had decided to read all of Jane’s books, starting with Emma. She did chuckle to herself at the selection, thinking Pride and Prejudice would be the first pick.
At least getting another copy would be easy enough. Though she wasn’t expecting the store to be as full as it was when she walked through the doors, moving around the display in the front, trying to dodge the booktok table, and almost getting knocked into a selection of cookbooks by people with failed daytime television shows.
“You good Maggie?” Conner McKay had caught her before she took out the pile of discounted cookbooks.
She gulped as she got lost in his eyes for a second, that was all she could allow herself to have, “Yeah, sorry just trying to get to the classics.”
“Cassie has your copy, doesn’t she?”
“Yeah.” Maggie shrugged as she ran a hand through her blond hair, “I’m thrilled she borrowed it; the timing could’ve been better.”
“Which one is it?” He walked with her to the section, feeling the crowd thin out.
Maggie looked around, “What has the store so busy today?”
Conner rolled his eyes, “New Chad Davis book got released. People still think he’ll show up to do a book signing. He never has. I only do the display right in front to keep Adel happy.”
“I fear the day that Kip knocks one of his groupies up and she or he wants a clothing sponsorship.” Maggie confessed as she reached for a copy of Emma.
“That is scary for a number of reasons.” Conner laughed, “I’m going to let you browse, I have to go check on Eric up front.”
“Thanks.” She bit her lip as she watched him walk towards the register area. She had been flirting with him since they met, and well nothing. For now, she would just have to stick with having a book boyfriend, if she couldn’t even get the attention of a real-life man.
Conner was silently cursing himself again as he walked away. Why could he never actually ask her for a cup of coffee, or a drink, or what did people even do these days for dates. He hadn’t gone on one since he was in college—and that had led to a baby and marriage shortly after. A daughter who was now sixteen, who only saw her mother in TikTok videos of all places—at least it wasn’t only fans.
“You didn’t ask her out again, right?” Eric shook his head as he worked on stocking the reusable shopping bags under the counter.
“No, I didn’t.” Conner sighed as he looked around the sales floor. “Lysa adores her, Bethany is never coming back—and I wouldn’t want to repeat that anyways. I don’t know what I’m scared of.”
“Moving forward.” Eric started to shrug and then stopped midway as he looked at the entrance of the store.
Conner followed his glance to the entrance, “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
Eric shook his head, “Shouldn’t she be trying to live in some random country for like $200 a month?”
“Yeah, last I knew.” Conner rolled his eyes as he walked over to the one woman he didn’t want to deal with. “Hey Bethany, looking for a travel book?”
She smiled, “Hey Conner, I was looking for you.”
“You should’ve called.” Conner crossed his arms over his chest as he looked down at his ex-wife, even in heels she was still tiny. “Have you spoken to Lysa?”
“Not yet.” She adjusted her purse strap, “I wanted to talk to you first.”
“Are you even going to see her this time?”
“I am.” She took an unsteady breath as she looked at him, “I’m going to be in town for a little bit. I’m working on a travel book. I have a deal with a publisher in Denver.”
“I hope you found a nice Air B&B or something like that.” He was terrified she was about to ask to stay with him and their daughter.
“I have my parents house.” She told him, “When they moved to Arizona, they sold it to me.”
Conner bit the inside of his cheek as he listened to her, “Good for you. If you want my help with Lysa, I can’t give it to you. You need to be the one to call her, to tell her you’re in town. You want to see her; you work to set it up. She’s sixteen now, she can make the decision to see you or not herself.”
“She’s fourteen Conner.”
“Sixteen Bethany, you’ve been gone for twelve years.”
Bethany was frozen for a moment, “You’re right.” She couldn’t believe she had gotten her only daughter’s age wrong. “I’m still jetlagged obviously. I will call her and set up a lunch this weekend.”
“Good luck with that.” Conner looked towards Eric, “The sooner, the better. People have seen you. It’s only a matter of time before Lysa finds out you’re in town. The longer you wait to tell her, the less likely she’ll be to talk with you or see you.”
He didn’t wait for her to reply, he walked back to the register desk. If Bethany didn’t call Lysa by tomorrow night, then he would sit her down and let her know. It really was a matter of time considering Eric, who loved to spill the tea as he said mentioned something if she dropped by the store.
“Is she gone?”
“Yeah Boss.” He passed him his phone, “Lysa was calling while you were over there. I didn’t answer.”
Conner looked at the young college student in the eyes, “Do not mention that Bethany was here. It’s the last thing Lysa needs to find out.”
“Yeah, Maggie didn’t look thrilled either while she checked out.”
“Maggie knows about Bethany, everything she’s done.”
Eric lifted himself onto the back counter to sit, “Boss, if you and Maggie are close enough that you can tell her about the ex. You’re close enough your daughter likes her, then just ask her out. She is clearly crazy about you.”
“I doubt that.”
“Fine, she’s just trying to get to you for the book discount. She did buy five books today.” Eric picked up his phone, “Yes, my food is almost here.”
Conner rolled his eyes as he checked the time, “I have to go. Can you handle this on your own?”
“Yes, I’m not going to burn the store down or anything.”
Conner knew Eric wouldn’t burn the store down, he really did. He just was afraid he would get sucked into whatever hot social media app was at the moment.

“Thank you for coming Detective Lane.” The officer led her under the crime scene tape as they moved through the wooded area of the local park.
“What do we have?” she pulled her dark hair back into a short, tight ponytail as she got closer to the crime scene.
“White male, early thirties we believe, beaten, left for dead.”
She nodded as the paramedics started to transfer the body. “Any ID?”
“Just this.” He passed her a Colorado Drivers Liscense.
“Shit.” She saw the name and then looked at the victim, “Get him to Memorial, we’ll work on notifying the family. Hopefully they’ll have some answers about what happened.”
“It doesn’t look like this is where he was attacked, just dumped.” One of the crime scene engineers pointed out several aspects of the scene. “If he hadn’t been found when he was, he would probably be dead.”
“Who found him?”
“He did.” The uniform pointed to the young man giving a statement to another uniformed officer.
“This kid, seriously?” She shook her head.
“Something wrong Siobhan?”
The thick voice caused her to turn around, “Lucas, you’ll never believe who discovered the body.”
He followed her glance, “Wait, seriously? The delivery boy?”
She nodded, “I can’t deal with that kid, will you please take his statement?”
He chuckled, “Fine, I got this but that means you notify the family.”
“I got it.” She watched as he was loaded into the ambulance before she took out her cell phone and walked away from the crowds of people. She searched through her contacts, she had lived in this town for so long, she almost always knew a victim’s family. This one though, he hadn’t been in town in many years.
The number she selected dialed, and the line started trilling. Before she had even taken one deep breath the call answered, “Hey, perfect timing.”
“Not really.” She didn’t give a greeting, “I’m actually calling on police business.”
“What’s going on?”
“Brighton, he’s on his way to Memorial Hospital here in town. He was found beaten, near death this afternoon.” Siobhan looked over as her partner laughed with the witness. She felt herself shiver.
“I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
“If you give me your parents number I can call them. They can probably make it faster from Arizona.”
“I’m in town. And my parents won’t help Brighton.”
“Oh, okay. I’ll see you at Memorial then.” Siobhan hung up, processing the information she’d just been given.
“Lane, you, okay?” Lucas waved his hand in front of her face.
She blinked a couple of times, “Yeah, I’m good. I just wasn’t expecting this family member to be in town.”
“We’ve got to get over to the hospital, see what the situation is, okay?”
“Yeah, you got the kid’s statement?”
“I did.” Be shook his head, “I don’t know why he irritates you so much.”
Siobhan looked back at him as he got into his Nissan, “He was delivering a pizza three weeks ago to a house just as we went in for a raid on their drug lab.”
“Wait, that was--.”
“And then, he was the one who witnessed that incident downtown when that guy drove into the shoe store.”
Lucas nodded, “Yeah, he’s got some bad luck.”
“Anyways, let’s get over to memorial and hope that Trista is on duty.”

“I don’t want to lose them. They’re a major anchor store for the mall.” Adel Davis paced around the living room of her family’s large estate, her phone on speaker.
“We understand, but we might not have a choice.” The person on the other end spoke.
“We need to keep them, and if God forbid, we can’t then let’s make sure we can get that space filled within a month. An empty space like that could ruin us.” She ended the call, for a moment wishing for the days when she could slam the phone down.
“The mall is always bustling Mom, no need to worry.” Her youngest son came into the room, for once not followed by the so-called camera crew he usually had trailing behind him.
“Kip, what brings you away from the cameras?” Perhaps she should’ve sent him off to school with his brother, at the very least he had a career, but he never came home.
“Getting ready to go and meet the guys for Taco Thursday.” He picked up one of the decorative glass balls sitting on the coffee table, “I saw dear Brother’s new book came out.”
“Yes, it did.” Adel braced herself, never sure what Kip would notice, say, bring up.
Kip tossed the glass ball in the air as he leaned on the arm of the white sofa, “I read it on my Kindle this morning. What a silly story. I can’t believe people buy his books.”
“Your brother is a very talented writer.” His father told him as he came into the room. “You are a talented content creator, even if I still don’t really get it.”
Kip rolled his eyes, “About that.”
“Yeah?” Adel perked up, perhaps her son would finally use that college education he had for something, anything besides sitting in his room and streaming video games all day.
“I was wondering if I could use the pool house, turn it into my studio. I’m looking to expand the kind of content I create.”
Adel looked towards her husband, mentally trying to tell him to tell Kip no.
“Go for it. It could use an update anyways. Redecorate it and use that for content too Kip.”
“Thanks Dad.” Kip smiled before looking to his mom, “You cool with that?”
“Yeah honey, though any thought of using that business degree?”
Kip shrugged, “I use it every day. I know you don’t think streaming is a job or anything, but I haven’t even touched my trust fund in five years. I sell merchandise, I have paid subscribers. I get it you want me working under you or under Dad, but it’s just not going to happen.”
Adel, “It’s getting late, you two figures out the logistics for the pool house. Just please Kip don’t knock down any walls.”
“Whatever you say Mom.” Kip slowly sighed as his mother left.
Doug sat next to him on the couch, “She loves you; she’s concerned, she doesn’t get it.”
“I’ve noticed.”
“Just maybe no more prank videos, especially done in the mall.”
Kip nodded, “Yeah, that probably doesn’t help her take this seriously.”
“Not at all.” Doug turned his iPad on, “Figure out what you want to do with the pool house, I mean besides move in it to get some distance from us.”
“You figured that part out huh?”
“Kip, you’re beyond old enough to have your own space. Okay yes you have a suite of rooms upstairs, but it’s time for you to move out. Even if it’s just to the pool house. Let’s be real that’s as far as your mother will let you move out without interference.”
“But Chad lives in New York, she sent him off to private school when he was in high school. He never comes home.”
Doug took a moment, “Chad’s situation is very different. What I can say is that might be why she holds on as tightly as she does to you.”
Kip tried to remember what he could about when his brother had been sent away. Whatever it was had to be bad, really bad. Kip had his own hiccups and scandals in high school, yet Chad had been sent away. “Think Chad will ever come back?’’
“When the time is right he will. Don’t know when that will be.”
“Thanks Dad, I’ll see you in the morning.” Kip gently put the glass ball he’d been playing with back in the bowl on the table.
“Be safe.” Doug called out as his youngest son left.

“Has he been disposed of?” she questioned as her chair faced the wall of Higher Education Degrees.
“We did exactly what you asked us to do.” He told her, his hands behind his back, “Unfortunately luck was not on our side this afternoon.”
The chair spun and she slammed her arms on the desk, “What do you mean?”
“The police have already discovered his body. Someone passing by running on the trail caught sight of him.”
“Why wasn’t he deep in the river?” She ran a hand through her white, blond hair.
“It’s April, the runoff hasn’t really started, and so the river is not as deep as we would’ve liked for this. We were hoping the current would take him downstream a bit more before he washed up.”
She rubbed her forehead, “Take care of this. We can’t be found to be connected to him in anyway.”
“Don’t worry, everything will work out in our favor.” He told her as he left the office. He knew he’d just lied to her. But that was everything he did these days, lie. He lied to her, to the people around him, none of them knew the truth. He was surprised he had reached this high in the organization, gotten in deeper.
Once he was alone in his car, he pulled his phone out and pressed stop on the recording. If Carla ever found it, he would play it off as him covering his ass if she ever turned on him. Really though he was uploading it as part of the case his department was working to bring against her.
“Hart” he answered his phone as he pulled out of the medical suite parking lot, “yeah, that’s good to hear. Yeah, I’ll swing by the hospital.”

Siobhan paced in front of the nurse’s station while Lucas had gone to get them coffee. She had let her hair down once they were back in their car, giving her the chance to twist it around her fingers as she put together the information she had already about the victim and what had happened to him.
She couldn’t ignore the fact that his sister was back in town, the same day he washes up on the edge of death in the river. Not that Siobhan realized he was even in town either. What the hell were either of them doing here? Was it a coincidence or a connection?
“Detective?” the doctor stood in front of her, “You, okay?”
“Yeah, just going over the pieces. What do you know?”
She frowned as she put her hands in the pocket of her black scrubs, “He is in a coma right now, a lot of swelling in his brain. He’s got broken ribs, and a lot of bruising and swelling. Right now, it’s touch and go.”
“Trista, any idea of what caused these injuries?”
“I’m not a medical examiner, but these aren’t the kind of injuries in a car accident, not even the kind that lands you in the water.” Trista looked around, “I’m still waiting on the tox screen.”
“You think he was high?”
“I’ve seen a growing number of patients you wouldn’t expect.” Trista confessed as her name got called over the speaker system, “I’ll check back in with you soon.”
“Thanks.” Siobhan called out as the doctor walked away.
“I’m looking for Brighton Simpson.”
A voice crossed Siobhan’s ears and it was not the one she was expecting as she turned around. “Holdon Hart?”
She saw him cringe at the sound of her voice as he turned to look towards her. She tried to ignore how good he looked in the tight white T-shirt that stretched across him, the leather jacket he wore. He had total bad-boy appeal all over him.
He gave her a smile, hoping to thaw the freeze he saw from her, “What a small world.”
“Why are you asking about my victim?” She had a new piece of the puzzle and at this moment she wasn’t sure she would like where this could be going.
He looked around, trying to see who was around him, them before leaning in close. “I’m just asking about a friend.” He knew he couldn’t tell her in such a public place. “Where’s your partner, or do they have you going on cases alone?”
“He’s getting coffee.” She kept her eyes steeled on him, “Why are you even in town, I thought the feds cut you. Shouldn’t you be somewhere disgraced?”
He smirked, “If I remember correctly Siobhan, you liked my disgraced side.”
“Shut up Holdon. I don’t have time for your nonsense. Or maybe you know exactly what happened to Brighton.”
“I promise you Siobhan, I don’t. I just wanted to check on him.”
“How do you know him?”
“We worked together.” That was all he could tell her; all he could say. It wasn’t a lie; it was the truth. He just knew that Siobahn Lane wouldn’t be ready for the truth right now, and not in such a public setting.
“He’s alive, for now.” She finally let her eyes go to the entrance, wondering why she had believed his sister would show up quickly.
He nodded, “Thanks Lane, I’ll see you around.”
“Hart, how about we don’t count on that?”
“Oh, but you can count on it.” He licked his lips as he walked out of the hospital. He had gotten way too close to blow his cover. And now he wouldn’t be able to sleep because he would be haunted by memories of his former police partner.

“Enjoy your stay in Colorado.” The attendant at the rental kiosk handed over a stack of paperwork and a car key.
“Thanks.” He gave her a smile before throwing his carrying on over his shoulder and dragging his wheely hardshell behind him. He knew he still had over an hour drive to Pinon Hallow—if traffic on I-25 wasn’t bad. He couldn’t be sure of the reception he would get when he arrived.
He found the car he’d been assigned and loaded his bags in. His phone automatically connected to the Bluetooth system in the car, and he listened to the messages he had received while in the air. He would deal with it all tomorrow.
He set the phone to play a podcast, listening to the story of a woman who ran away as a teenager to join a cult. Her family didn’t know what happened to her for a decade and a half.
He was almost at the end of the podcast episode when the familiar silhouette of Pinon Hallow came into view. It wouldn’t be long now; he would be home soon. He moved down the streets he’d known for his entire childhood. He was surprised by how familiar and foreign they were at the same time.
He pulled up the long driveway towards the stone mansion. The lights were on in many rooms, but he knew there weren’t people to fill them. Not now at least. They wouldn’t tell him they didn’t have room for him, unless they had turned it into a hotelwhich his mother would never have done.
He parked in his favorite spot from when he was in high school and took out his carry-on bag. He locked the car out of pure habit as he went to the door. He let himself in, the foyer that led to the living room was empty. He glanced at the time on his phone, if his father was around, he knew exactly where he could find him.
Moving through his childhood home he stopped outside the bowling alley. He could hear the pins falling. “Alright Adel, let’s see what you’ve got.” His father’s voice was older, how had he missed that in phone and video calls.
“I will get this turkey.” Her voice teased.
He watched as his mother took her ball and moved up towards the lane, and then let the ball sail down the hard wood and got a strike. He started clapping as he walked into the room. “Good job Mom.”
His parents both turned, instinctively they knew it wasn’t Kip interrupting them. Instead before Adel and Doug Davis, for the first time in over twelve years was their oldest and first-born son Chad.
“I’m home.”
“Welcome home son.” Doug moved to give his son a hug, unsure if he would accept, but grateful he did.
“Why didn’t you tell us you were coming home?” his mother moved in for a hug of her own, holding him tightly.
“I wanted to surprise you. Why did you turn my room into something else?” He put his bag down as he picked up the blue bowling ball sitting to the side he had used throughout his teenage years, before he’d been sent away.
“No, though Kip did try.” Adel smiled.
“Ahh yes, probably wanted a room for his video games.” Chad put the ball down, “I don’t know how long I’ll be in home. I just knew it was time to come home.”
“We’re glad you did.” Doug told him. “I’ll call Simone and get your room ready for you.”
“Thanks Dad.” Chad watched his father leave the room before he looked at his mother, really looked at her. She was older of course, A sadness over her. “Is Kip home?”
“No, I think he went to get tacos with his friends.”
Chad nodded, “So probably making a stupid video with them.”
“I wouldn’t call them stupid.”
“Uninspired then.” Chad suggested, “Is that bookstore still in the mall?”
“Of course, why?”
Chad shrugged, “I might go sign some copies of my latest book, or if they have any of my past ones.”
“They do, they have a huge display of your stuff.” She gushed.
“Wow, I never would’ve guessed.” But he knew why, it was to stay in her good graces. Sure, he’d made the New York Times list three times already but here in Pinon Hallow, his mother had a lot of pull. Any attention he got, at least in a positive sense, was of her will.
“Do you have any dietary needs or requests. I can make sure Simone has a grocery delivery done early so you have what you want or need.”
“No, I’m not that fussy. Unless you’ve all gone gluten, meat, free.”
“Nothing like that, next week with your brother who knows though.” She sighed a little. “I do wish you had told us you were coming. I could’ve set you up with a proper book signing.”
“I prefer this way. I don’t generally enjoy crowds of people.”
“Simone is getting your room ready.” Doug informed Chad when he came back in. “She already has fresh towels in your bathroom and the sheets are being put on the bed as we speak.”
“Thank you. I think I’m going to go take a shower and go to bed. It’s been a long travel day.” He left the room before they could protest or say anything else.
He made his way up to his childhood room, unsure what he might find. The room had been cleaned up, cleaned out. It had been updated to a more mature style. Almost like his mother had expected he would return—which he had.
He dropped his carryon bag by the door, bypassing the bathroom for a moment. He needed to know if it was still here, after all these years.
The books on the bookshelf didn’t appear to have been traded out. He pulled out a copy of The Hunger Games, and as he flipped through the pages something fell out. He picked it up, the blue in drawing of himself, sitting under the tree at the high school courtyard.
It was here.
It still existed.
All this time he had told himself it had to be gone.
Was this a sign he should try to find her?
If he could, maybe he could apologize about how things ended.
It hadn’t been his choice.
Would she even want to see him now?
She was probably married, had kids.
She probably left Pinon Hallow.
She was probably in Paris or Sydney, exploring the world.
But she was why he came back to town. She had been haunting his dreams for months, years really.
It had to mean something, and Chad was determined to find out what. He would find his high school girlfriend. He would apologize for what happened. It was the least he could do all these years later.

Abby sat at her desk, staring at her computer screen, willing the inspiration she needed to finish the project in front of her. It just wasn’t coming.
She read over the client’s information sheet again, sighing. What was in front of her was perfectly acceptable, yet something was missing. She just couldn’t decide what it was.
She turned the monitor off and moved over to her bed, she looked at the bag from the bookstore she hadn’t unpacked yet. Pulling out the book by Chad Davis, she opened the dedication page again, letting her finger drift over the text.
She closed the book and put it on the shelf above her bed. The same shelf that had every other book he had written. Next to them was a box of notes she had received in high school, along with the breakup letter from her first boyfriend. On the other side of the books was a baby picture of Fallon, simple and classic.
Simple and classic.
That’s what her current project was missing. She went back to her desk, turning on the monitor and getting lost in her art.
Tomorrow would be a new day, and she wouldn’t feel the past encroaching on her the way she had today.
