Beatmatch Introduces Plans to Enable Music Lovers to Experience Live Music Together
Beatmatch doubles down on IRL experiences to make finding things to do, planning with friends, and meeting people easier than ever before. Beatmatch Plans now offer music lovers the ability to find people to attend shows with.
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES -- Beatmatch, Inc., today announced the launch of Beatmatch Plans, a new way for music lovers to find people to go to shows with in just a few minutes. Beatmatch Plans allow you to create or join groups going to upcoming concerts, parties, music festivals or any live music event. Previously, you had to awkwardly post on social media and desperately hope that one of your friends was interested in the same show. With Beatmatch, you can browse existing plans or create your own to make new friends and find people to go with.
Music lovers have an insatiable thirst to attend live music events; Live Nation brought in $13.5 billion from concert revenue in 2022 alone. However, quenching your thirst for live music can be extremely overwhelming due to lackluster event discovery apps and your limited social circle. Concerts, parties, and music festivals are constantly happening and if you live in a big city like Los Angeles or NYC, it’s almost impossible to keep track of everything going on. Furthermore, once you discover events you’re interested in, you must now hound your friends to go with you, coordinate availability, and buy tickets. Or even worse, your friends already made plans to go but you don’t find out until it’s too late.
Tumblr media
Beatmatch solves these problems by combining the event discovery and social experiences so that you know what events are happening and who you can instantly plan to go with. A Beatmatch Plan is the simplest way to organize a group of locals to attend a live music event. After creating an account, you’re greeted with a social feed of plans hosted by other community members based on your listening activity from Spotify and Apple Music. If you don’t see anything you like, you can host your own plan. To host your own plan, you simply search for the event you want to go to, add a few plan details, and share publicly with the community or privately with friends. Beatmatch’s algorithm will then show your plan to people you would vibe with the most. Community members can then ask to join your plan however you have full control over who’s allowed into your group. From there, you can share music, bond over memories, and organize when and where to meet using the group chat feature.
“Our goal is to get people out and doing more together,” said Chudi Iregbulem, creator of Beatmatch. “Music is a fantastic tool to meet like-minded people and live music events are a no pressure way to strengthen new friendships IRL. We want music lovers to give back to the artists and performers, who give us so many memories, by supporting shows in-person.”
To try Beatmatch Plans, download the Beatmatch app for iOS or Android. Create a profile, connect your Spotify or Apple Music account, and start joining and creating local plans. Invite your friends so you’re always in the loop about what’s going on.
“I would highly recommend Beatmatch to anyone who loves music and is looking to connect with like-minded people,” said an App Store reviewer “It’s a great way to expand your social circle and discover new music at the same time.”
To get started, visit www.beatmatch.app and download the app.

Partners in Rhyme: How Music Ignited Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Friendship
Collaborations for artistic expression like movies, TV shows, and music require great chemistry. So much so, that these connections often continue long after the job is done. It’s no surprise music has transcended boundaries and fostered meaningful connections at the highest levels. Throughout human history, numerous iconic friendships have been built on the shared love and passion for music. One such legendary bond is the dynamic friendship between two rap giants, Jay-Z and Kanye West. Today, we dive into their journey and explore how their collaboration in the music industry has not only shaped their careers but also strengthened their connection as friends.
Early Signs of Musical Brilliance
Tumblr media
Jay-Z and Kanye West, both hailing from humble beginnings, found their paths crossing through a mutual passion for Hip-Hop. Jay-Z as an already established artist, initially served as a mentor for the young talented Chicago kid. Through borderline absurd persistence, Kanye finally broke out on his own to achieve massive success as a solo artist. Individually, they achieved greatness, but it was when they joined forces that the world witnessed a truly remarkable creative synergy. From their early collaborations on Jay-Z's "The Blueprint" album to their groundbreaking joint album, "Watch the Throne," their friendship became an embodiment of what two brilliant minds can achieve together.
Creating Art, Forging Bonds
Tumblr media
Their journey began with Jay-Z's critically acclaimed album, "The Blueprint," released in 2001. Kanye West, an up-and-coming producer at the time, contributed beats for several tracks, including the standout collaboration "Takeover." This song showcased their musical chemistry and set the stage for future collaborations.
As their individual careers flourished, they continued to come together on numerous projects. In 2004, Jay-Z's "The Black Album" featured Kanye-produced hits like "Lucifer" and "Encore," further solidifying their creative partnership.
However, it was their groundbreaking joint album, "Watch the Throne," released in 2011, that truly showcased their combined genius. The album's lead single, "N****s in Paris," became a worldwide phenomenon with its infectious energy, memorable lyrics, and was continuously played on repeat during tour. The visuals from the “Otis” music video still stick out in our minds to this day. The success of "Watch the Throne" not only delighted fans but also solidified the bond between Jay-Z and Kanye West, proving that their collaboration was destined for greatness.
Innovation and Influence
Tumblr media
Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaboration not only birthed remarkable music but also sparked a wave of innovation within the hip-hop industry. With Jay-Z’s ever-growing luxury art collection and Kanye’s venture into high-fashion, the creative juices were always flowing into their music. Their fearlessness to experiment with unconventional sounds and daring lyrical themes revolutionized the genre, inspiring countless artists to push boundaries and embrace artistic evolution. Their impact on the music industry remains immeasurable, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural landscape.
Beyond Music: A Friendship Evolved
Tumblr media
While their music collaborations initially brought them together, Jay-Z and Kanye West's friendship extended far beyond the studio. They supported each other through personal trials and triumphs, forging a deep bond rooted in trust and loyalty. Their shared experiences, both in music and in life, solidified their friendship and showcased the power of music to unite individuals on a profound level. The duo's friendship is a testament to the profound impact that music can have on human connections. Even though the relationship has soured in recent years, the impeccable bond between them will forever live on through the music.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of adjusting to a new environment, it's crucial to find ways to connect with others and build a sense of belonging. For Gen-Z music lovers, music can be the key to forging new friendships and relationships. And to enhance your social experiences, we recommend downloading Beatmatch, the social app and members club for meeting music lovers. Now let's dive into the first tip on our list!
1. Attend local live music events
Tumblr media
One of the best ways to immerse yourself in a new city's music culture is by attending local music events and concerts. Keep an eye on social media, local listings, and event apps to stay informed about upcoming shows. Whether it's a small indie gig, a lively music festival, or an open mic night, these events are a great opportunity to meet fellow music enthusiasts and potentially discover new favorite artists. Strike up conversations with people around you, share your thoughts on the performances, and exchange recommendations. Music provides a natural conversation starter and a shared passion that can pave the way to meaningful connections. Even if you need to go alone, it's well worth the effort in the end.
2. Become a member of music-centric clubs
Tumblr media
Soho House anyone? Engaging with music communities and clubs is an excellent way to connect with like-minded individuals who share your love for a specific genre, instrument, or musical activity. Seek out local music groups, fan clubs, or organizations related to your interests. Participate in jam sessions, songwriting workshops, or DJ classes to interact with fellow musicians and music enthusiasts. These communities often organize social gatherings, music nights, or talent showcases where you can network, collaborate, and bond over your mutual love for music. If you haven't checked out one of our monthly OFFLINE parties for meeting music lovers IRL, you definitely should.
3. Volunteer at music festivals
Tumblr media
Volunteering at music festivals or charity events not only allows you to give back to the community but also provides an opportunity to meet people who share your passion for music. These events attract a diverse crowd, including music lovers, artists, and industry professionals. Offer your time and skills to help with event organization, ticketing, or artist management. By becoming part of the festival or event team, you'll connect with individuals who are deeply involved in the local music scene and have the chance to form lasting connections.
4. Explore local record stores and music cafés
Tumblr media
In the era of digital streaming, there's still something special about browsing through physical records and discovering hidden musical gems. Explore local record stores and music cafés, where you can strike up conversations with fellow music aficionados and shop owners who have an extensive knowledge of the local music landscape. Engage in discussions about your favorite artists, share recommendations, and inquire about upcoming gigs or events in the area. These spaces often host live performances or listening sessions, creating a perfect atmosphere for socializing with fellow music lovers.
5. Join online music communities and platforms
Tumblr media
In the digital age, online communities and platforms provide incredible opportunities to connect with people who share your passion for music. Join forums, social media groups, or music-specific platforms that focus on connecting music lovers and musicians. Engage in conversations, share your favorite songs or albums, and participate in virtual collaborations or challenges. These online spaces can be a stepping stone to offline connections as well, as you might find individuals from your new city who are part of the same communities. Make plans to meet up for a jam session, attend a concert together, or explore the local music scene.
Moving to a new city can be an exciting chance for personal growth and building new connections. Whether it's attending local music events, joining music communities, volunteering at festivals, exploring record stores, or connecting online, there are numerous ways to meet people who appreciate music as much as you do.

5 Best Cities for Music Lovers
Tumblr media
Music lovers, listen up! The world is full of great cities for your ears. These five cities have a lot of great venues for music lovers to enjoy their favorite bands and artists. You'll find everything from jazz clubs to rock venues to underground rave warehouses in these spots, and each city has its own unique feel when it comes to the sounds you'll hear while visiting.
Tumblr media
New Orleans, Louisiana
If you're a music lover, New Orleans is your city. The Big Easy has long been known as one of America's greatest live music cities. In fact, there are so many great venues and events going on in New Orleans that it can sometimes be hard to decide where to go next!
If you love jazz and blues then Bourbon Street is your place. You can enjoy fantastic local musicians playing at any given time during the day or night here. If Rock 'n Roll is more your thing then head over to Frenchman Street where all kinds of bands play nightly at some of Louisiana's oldest clubs including Blue Nile and Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro (both located within walking distance from each other). Want country music? Head over to Willie Nelson Boulevard in Tchoupitoulas where there are plenty of honky tonks offering live acts seven days per week! And if pop music is more up your alley then check out The Maple Leaf Bar which hosts some great local bands every night of the week along with national acts like the late-great Amy Winehouse!
Tumblr media
Austin, Texas
Austin, Texas is the Live Music Capital of the World. The city hosts several popular music festivals each year, including South by Southwest (SXSW), Austin City Limits, and Fun Fun Fun Fest. In addition to these large-scale events, Austin has a vibrant local music scene with venues like Antone's and Stubb's Bar-B-Q hosting national acts as well as up-and-coming artists from around town.
If you're an aspiring musician who wants to live in a city where your talent will be appreciated and celebrated rather than overlooked or ignored, then consider moving here! Austin has been called "an oasis for musicians" by Rolling Stone magazine because there are so many great opportunities here both professionally and socially that can help foster creativity as well as provide support systems when needed--all while enjoying one of America's most beautiful cities!
Tumblr media
New York City, New York
New York City is a great place for music lovers. There are several venues in New York that are home to concerts and parties, including Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Webster Hall and Irving Plaza and they’re still fun even if you have to go alone.
New York City is also home to many famous musicians like Jay-Z and Alicia Keys who were born there. Many famous hip hop artists have also been born or raised in New York City including Nas (born Nasir Jones), LL Cool J (James Todd Smith) and Run DMC (Darryl McDaniels).
The city has an active nightlife scene where you can enjoy live music almost every day of the year. If you love jazz music, then you should definitely visit the Blue Note Jazz Club on West Third Street in Greenwich Village. The club has hosted some of the best musicians in history, including John Coltrane and Miles Davis.
If you are a fan of blues music, then you should visit the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in Times Square. The club is named after legendary guitarist and songwriter B.B. King, who was born in Mississippi but moved to Memphis when he was young. He has performed at the club many times over the years.
Tumblr media
Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville is the capital of country music. It's also a great city for live music, with plenty of venues to choose from. There are many famous country music landmarks in Nashville, including the Country Music Hall Of Fame and Museum. For those who love country but don't want to spend all their time at museums or historical sites: there are plenty of bars where you can enjoy some good food while listening to local bands perform live on stage.
Nashville is an excellent destination if you're looking for festivals celebrating Americana culture (including folk music) or bluegrass styles like old-timey Appalachian tunes played by string bands made up entirely by men wearing hats made out of straw!
Tumblr media
Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world, so it's no surprise that music lovers flock to this city. The weather is good for outdoor concerts and festivals, so they happen often throughout the year. Los Angeles also attracts a lot of famous people who occasionally pop up at shows at Staples Center (now Crypto.com Arena) , Hollywood Bowl and Greek Theatre, just to name few. For Gen-Z students, there are also several colleges here that offer degrees for creatives looking to break into the industry such as Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine's academy at USC. For audiophiles, make sure to stop by the Amoeba Music record store to pick some music on wax. The Grammys are also typically hosted in Los Angeles so it's no surprise LA has an entire Grammy museum to memorialize past winners; you must check this out!
If you're looking for a more energetic night, there are plenty of clubs and bars in Venice Beach that feature local bands and DJs. There are also various festivals throughout the year such as Taste of Downtown, Long Beach Jazz Festival, Coachella and Stagecoach Country Music Festival that offer diverse live music performances on multiple stages.
You can't go wrong with any of these cities. They are all great places to live and work and they have a lot to offer in terms of music. If you're planning on moving somewhere new soon, make sure to check out these five cities! And if you’re looking for lovers or friends when you move, make sure to download the Beatmatch app to find people who love music as much as you!

What does the 2023 Coachella lineup say about the future of music and your social life?
Tumblr media
Frank Ocean is joined by BLACKPINK and Bad Bunny as the 2023 headliners of what is being said to be the most musically and globally diverse Coachella in history.
Coachella released the full lineup for its highly anticipated 2023 desert music festival taking place over two weekends in April. While every year features new and old stars, this year’s lineup left some pleasantly surprised as it included some of the most globally diverse musical acts in history.
Joining Frank Ocean as a headliner, Latin Music sensation Bad Bunny and South Korean girl group BLACKPINK lead the top spots on each of the other two days. Bad Bunny is the first Spanish language artist to headline the festival, while BLACKPINK will be the first Asian act to feature on the top of the Coachella bill. In addition, this year’s Coachella will include for the time first ever, Punjabi artists and music. But what do these historical additions indicate about the future of live music and festival sounds?
This year’s Coachella is by far the most globally and musically diverse one in history. Fans have been singing praises for the representation on the line-up. Spanish trailblazer Rosalía, Afrobeats titan Burna Boy and K-pop star Jackson Wang are other important additions helping to create the diversity on this year’s Coachella lineup. Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh and Ali Sethi from Pakistan will perform as well as British alt-rock group the Gorillaz, Icelandic indie singer Bjork and half Filipino, Florida-bred Gen Z musician and actor, Dominic Fike.
In age, genre, culture, language, and sound, this year’s Coachella lineup takes the cake for spanning the widest range of artistic representation. This shows us that popular music in America is becoming increasingly more diverse. Coachella is evaluating the pulse of its vast demographic and giving platforms to artists that deserve the shine which also means you have the chance to mingle and meet a more diverse crowd at the festivals. This year also marks the first time that the festival will be headlined entirely by non-white artists.
So what does this mean for your social life? Historically, music and culture have impacted how we see the world and interact with other people. Your Music Taste Will Make Or Break Your Social Life
Tumblr media
Music is a love language. It is instrumental to your social identity and impacts everything from how you feel, to the way you think, to what you wear, and to how you speak. Not only that, it brings us closer together with our friends, family, and most importantly our significant other. This reality is also reflected in the world of online dating. Over 84% of Tinder users hope to find a match who shares their taste in music. We dug deep into the numbers and found that your music taste will either make or break your dating life.
Bad Music Taste Could Be Relationship Deal Breaker
Tumblr media
Imagine you’re on a date. You show up, your date is looking good, smelling great, the conversation is flowing and then all of a sudden they say “I hate Beyonce, I can’t stand R&B, and that new Drake album is trash.” This is an absolute buzz kill and according to Fast Company (via TickPick), over 45% of daters say that bad music taste could be a deal breaker in a relationship. You might as well just end the date early. Don’t put yourself in this scenario. Date intentionally by asking people about their music taste in the first interaction. Trust us, it’ll be worth it.
Some Similarities Are Better Than None
Tumblr media
Only 2% of couples with “very different” music tastes survive long-term. This number is staggering but not surprising. Think about how ubiquitous music is in your life. Nightlife, roadtrips, commuting, studying, working out, and much more. Music is everywhere and if you and your partner don’t share the same taste then it could spell doom for your relationship. Instead of wasting your time, vet your music compatibility upfront so you don’t end up with all the heartache.
You’re Being Judged On Dating Apps For Your Music Taste
Tumblr media
About 74% of dating app users would “like” someone if they saw they had similar music taste. If you’re on dating apps like Tinder, Bumble or Hinge, you can best believe that you are being judged by your music taste. Even though this information is typically tucked away at the bottom of your profile, true music lovers are likely scrolling all the way to find it. To be honest, these apps don’t match you based on your music taste so you might be better off disconnecting your Spotify account all together. Imagine a Taylor Swift fan coming across the dating profile of a Kanye West fan. That is just a disaster waiting to happen 🤦.
Concert Dates Lead To Relationships
Tumblr media
Concerts and music festivals are a unique experience especially as a date. Roughly 81% of people who go to a concert for a first date, go on a second date. It makes sense. For a couple hours, you and your date are fully immersed in a shared passion for an artist. Singles often opt for dates where there is a distraction from the slightly awkward small talk such as bowling, movies, arcade, etc. Why not do the same with music? You can grab food or drinks before doors open or even after the show to have more conversation and get to know each other on a deeper level.
Beatmatch connects people through music
Tumblr media
Online dating is like a broken record. People are endlessly swiping left and right for almost no results which has undoubtedly contributed to making more people single or unmarried than ever before. Beatmatch is here to change that by matching like-minded people based 100% on music compatibility. We use the power of music to create authentic connections, vibrant conversations, and better dates. Join the party today so you can play music and find love!

Beatmatch Announces Social App to Help Music Lovers Meet
Match based on the music you stream. Just press play.
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES, CA – 10/06/2021 – Beatmatch, a Los Angeles-based company, announced it's launching a dating app to help music lovers find relationships by matching people with similar music tastes. Previously, you needed to endlessly swipe left or right to find someone special. Now, you can easily find your perfect match by playing the music you love.
Dating is hard. Especially if you are one of 45% of daters who say that “bad music taste” could be a deal breaker in a relationship. Most dating apps fail to create relationships because they do not facilitate genuine meaningful conversation. Many daters often struggle to start conversations because bios are empty or littered with shameless self-promotion rather than interesting conversation starters. Even when a couple messages have been exchanged, daters are regularly deterred by generic and repetitive topics that do not enable them to get to know each other better. Lastly, even when a conversation goes well, daters must grapple with when or how to take the conversation offline and meet in real life leading to very few matches planning first dates. How often have you matched with someone and never said a word? How often has the conversation been flowing and then you got “ghosted”? Too often.
Beatmatch solves these problems by matching you with people who share your music preferences. Music taste is a social indicator of your values which enables the app to show you people you would most likely vibe with. Rather than endlessly swiping, you simply continue playing music on your favorite streaming service and Beatmatch will automatically find your perfect match for you. Just press play; that’s it. Beatmatch allows you to break the ice by liking and commenting on any song, artist, or album displayed on another user’s profile so that you can skip past the awkward and boring small talk. You can maintain vibrant conversations by sharing new music, bonding over up-and-coming artists, and reminiscing on throwback albums. Beatmatch also makes it easy for you to plan the first date. You can browse upcoming concerts and music festivals, find out who’s interested, and buy tickets in just a few minutes.
“Our mission is to connect the world through music,” said Chudi Iregbulem, Founder and CEO of Beatmatch. “We believe music is a love language because only 2% of couples with ‘very different’ music tastes survive. Just imagine dating someone who doesn’t speak your language; we help you avoid that.”
To get started, go to the Beatmatch website and enter your email to join the waitlist. Beatmatch will contact you when a spot opens up. Once the app is launched, you can quickly sign up using Facebook or a phone number. Next, you can connect your Spotify or Apple Music account so the app can recommend the best people and events for you. After that, you can discover and match with like-minded music lovers around you and begin chatting if there’s mutual interest. Finally, you can meet in person at one of the curated concerts and live shows to take your relationship to the next level.
“I absolutely hate missing out on a good concert but I also don’t want to go alone,” said a UX research participant. “Beatmatch will help me stay on top of upcoming shows and make sure I always have someone to go with. I can’t wait for it to launch.”

5 Tips for Attending a Concert Alone
Tumblr media
Let’s imagine your favorite artist is coming to town. You and your go-to concert buddy are all jazzed up and decide to buy some early bird tickets. A couple of months pass by and the day of the concert is finally here! You get a phone call from your concert buddy, and they reveal that they’ve gotten sick and can no longer make the show tonight. You are crushed with disappointment. Your next thought is wondering what to do with the tickets. Do you sell them? Do you find someone else last minute? Or do you decide to go alone? Yes, I said alone. This is the dreaded dilemma many music lovers have faced at one point or another. We decided to put together the following guidelines for attending a concert alone so you can be well-prepared the next time around.
Tumblr media
1. Socialize
Showing up alone doesn’t mean you need to stay alone! Whether it was moving to a new city or joining a sports team, we’ve all been alone at one point or another. The positive is that there will always be new people for you to meet. Trust me, the five seconds of awkward introductions are well worth the pain because it could quickly turn into a longtime friendship or relationship. If you are at the same concert, then there’s a good chance you’ll have similar music tastes. Name a better conversation topic than music. I’ll wait...
Tumblr media
2. Wear a Conversation Starter
One of the best ways to start a conversation with people you don’t know is by wearing something interesting. I can’t count the number of times people have started a conversation with me because I had on some cool sneakers or was wearing a shirt they liked. This happens regularly in bars, nightclubs, and even concerts. At a show a couple years back, I met one of my good friends simply because they saw I was wearing a Soulection Radio shirt, and we remain friends to this day. This simple trick will make your life much easier.
Tumblr media
3. Hang by the Bar
If you've ever been to a bar or club, you are probably familiar with this tactic. You can easily make yourself feel more comfortable at a concert by posting up by the bar. It's a great chance to meet people as they order drinks, and you can even quench your own thirst with an ice-cold beverage. Instead of keeping your hands in your pockets, simply holding a drink (even water!) can make you appear more inviting and inspire people to chat with you. And of course, I'd be lying if I didn't mention out that a little bit of alcohol can significantly calm your nerves and prevent you from getting in your own head. As always, drink responsibly.
Tumblr media
4. Keep on the Move
One of the main reasons people are uncomfortable going to concerts alone is that we think people are judging us. We start to get into our own heads. An excellent way to combat these thoughts is to stay on the move. Work your way from one side of the venue to the other. Not only will people not have time to realize you’re alone, but it could also create several opportunities to meet other music lovers in passing.
Tumblr media
5. Make up an Excuse?
Afraid of being judged for being alone? Just make up an excuse. You can say, “My friend canceled on me last minute,” or “I lost my friends.” It really doesn’t matter what you say because people actually care far less than you would think. However, having an excuse prepared beforehand might give you the extra boost of confidence you need to feel comfortable in the crowd.
[BONUS TIP]: Download the Beatmatch app
Tumblr media
If you haven’t noticed yet, Beatmatch has already solved this problem for you! Beatmatch is the “offline” social app that helps music lovers find things to do and people to meet through music and events. Meet everyone going to the concerts you want to see by joining other people’s plans and creating your own. Download the app today to get started!

3 Ways to Meet Your Favorite Artist
Tumblr media
It feels like it’s been forever since we were able to watch our favorite artists perform live. Live shows separate the casual listeners from the music lovers. You can literally reach out and touch your idol. For super fans, the meet and greet tickets have always been the holy grail. They are a guaranteed way to meet big time artists like Snoop Dogg and Cardi B. These tickets come with a heavy price and usually set your wallet back at least a couple months. But what if I told you there was a better way? Here are the 3 best (and cheapest) ways to meet your favorite artists.
Tumblr media
1. Watch Shows At Small Venues
Going to a show at a small venue might be one of the most underrated experiences. Not only is the vibe more intimate, you also have several opportunities to meet the artist if you pay attention.
In 2016, Anderson .Paak released his critically acclaimed album Malibu. It was only his second studio album so he was still relatively unknown to most people. To promote his new release, he played a live show at Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT. Toad’s Place is a small venue and is well known for showcasing up-and-coming artists before they go viral. As a frequent attendee, I knew the bathroom is right next to where the artists exit the stage. Once he finished performing I sprinted towards the bathroom and acted as natural as possible. Sure enough there he was exiting stage left. I was easily able to dap him up and pay my respects.
You must know your favorite venues like the back of your hand. Become a regular and you might just get lucky.
Tumblr media
2. Go To Exclusive Parties
Once an artist starts getting a little buzz they become a part of the elite. They’re invited to all the fancy parties to meet others in the music industry. Attending these parties is an incredible way to simultaneously meet all your favorite artists and have the time of your life. I know what you’re thinking. “I’m just an average person, how can I go to exclusive parties?” I’m happy to tell you that you don’t need to be well connected to attend these events, you just need to be aware. The biggest reason people miss out on these events is because they don’t even know they’re happening until they show up on an Instagram story. You need to work smarter not harder.
The biggest feeding ground for these events is Coachella Weekend (RIP Coachella 2020 and 2021). And of course I mean Weekend 1 not Weekend 2; don’t be basic. Most people think being packed like sardines at the festival is the way to go but they are mistaken. The Coachella side parties, also known as side-chella or no-chella are the best ways to get up and close with your favorite crooners. Over the years, I’ve attended legendary events like Hypebeast Hotel and You Had To Be There and partied with Migos, Gucci Mane, SoSuperSam, and even Kaytranada. Everyone from rappers to DJs to producers attend these parties and are treated to free food, drinks, and sometimes merch. As an avid music lover, your best chance of getting in is through scouring the internet for an RSVP link. This is the hard part. It often requires deep diving into blog posts or sliding into random people’s DMs.
Once you have completed this step, it’s smooth sailing. Just show up and mingle like you would anywhere else. Only this time it’s with your favorite artists.
Tumblr media
3. Stop By Sound Check
When it’s showtime artists get in game mode and block out all distractions. This is not a wise time to approach them. Not only will they be less receptive but security will also be on alert. Instead try showing up to the venue early and catch them during sound check. Sound check is when artists fine-tune their vocals for the performance and typically occurs a couple hours before doors open.
In 2017, GoldLink was scheduled to perform in Seattle, WA with Masego as his opener. For some reason I decided to procrastinate and buy tickets at the last minute. I lived close to the venue so instead of buying tickets online, I decided to do it the old fashioned way and walk to the box office. When I arrived, I found out tickets were already sold out. As I’m leaving, I see a familiar looking face chilling by the side of the building. And there he was. GoldLink was outside getting some fresh air. I introduced myself and told him I was a huge fan. He was shocked that I had already seen him live 4 times and gracefully decided to put me on his guest list for the show that night.
Stopping by shows early is one of the best chances you’ll get to bump into your favorite artists. You probably won’t always end up with free tickets but at the very least you can meet the artists you love.
Have you ever tried any of these tactics? Let us know if it worked in the comments below!
