Abuela Alma Modern AU Outfit Layout

So sometimes I make these layouts for characters and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details. this ones gonna be long cause i love abuela so much:

While this is a modern au, i styled the outfits for abuela to be 50-ish years ago, like when she was in her early 20′s. Like if there was a flashback to her before or around the time her kids were born. 

This is post-canon events of the film but also a modern au (it makes no sense don’t think about it) But for the present day headcanon abuela is unlearning a lot of toxic thinking and behavior and working through her trauma for for the first time in her life. maybe she is seeking some counselling from a trusted friend or priest or something. but also she is taking a step back from leading the family and is reconnecting with them individually. shifting into a less stressful and controlling role in the family. seeking both forgiveness and validation in her healing journey (i love her i will stand for no abuela hate in the chat). She and Mirabel are especially spend a lot of time together and mirabel shows her tiktoks and she is this kind of grandma:

Mirabel: she’s just someone on the internet

Abuela: are you friends? you should invite her over

mirabel: no- it’s just a video-

Abuela: do i know her family?

all the grandkids who are figuring out their sexual/gender identities are nervous about coming to her, until it is revealed that Bruno came out to her as a teen (as some kind of gay/demi/ace take your pick). while she was a bit confused by the terminology she worked really hard at educating herself and being understanding and supportive, so now as a grandma she is super accepting of the kids being lgbtq+. also very much this tweet : 

Happy pride I will never forget what my grandmother said to me when I came out to her at age 18. The words have really stuck with me. She said “stop crying we’re at a Chinese Colombian buffet I don’t care if you’re gay”

age 20-ish alma makes me cry every time i watch the movie (i just can;t help it). anyway. she doesn’t come from a very affluent family but she has a lot of ambition and leadership skills so she works really hard in school and in her community. she might be like the first person in her family to go to college (majoring in something like history or political science) and the pressure of being a young woman in these fields makes her very aware of image and what people think. 

(full disclosure i am not very well educated in Colombian history and am not going to try and make something up. just know that these headcanons are just for fun and not super plotted out. they borrow heavily from the events of the film and are mostly the same but in a modern setting. fill in the holes with your imagination)

she and pedro meet at that candle event they were at in the movie (is that like a real thing? i haven’t heard it mentioned in the encanto vids ive watched). of course they hit it off immediately. I imagine pedro to be very warm and soft-spoken, and he really likes how strong willed and opinionated alma is. theyre both very family oriented and really want lots of kids and grandkids eventually. he is killed in some vague civil unrest situation like in the film and alma has to move to a small town in the mountains ( the encanto) to raise her kids. she internalizes that trauma and becomes a community leader for many years to protect her town/home/family from all the bad shit in the world. 

her color pallet on the layout is some dark reds/burgendy/oranges with really romantic prints and sophisticated pieces. she is super sentimental so her jewelry are family heirlooms and she keeps these clothes for so long that her grandkids want to borrow them cause vintage clothes are really cool now.   

So this was my last outfit layout for encanto and i think my favorite one. i’m really into this style and colors and silhouettes. plus i am v biased cause i love abuela she is one of the most nuanced and interesting disney characters i’ve seen in a long time. just the thought of the dos orugitas scene makes me ugly cry (i think encanto is a shoo in for best animated pic at the oscars and dos oruguitas hopefully for best original song). I really liked this movie and i hope the fandom keeps growing and i hope you guys liked these dumb headcanons lol.

Félix Modern AU Outfit Layout

So sometimes I make these layouts for characters and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details:

This one is a little smaller and simpler because the dads don’t get a lot of screen time or extra characteristics so i didn’t really get a lot of inspiration for their styles.  

While this is a modern au, i styled the outfits for the parents generation to be 25-ish years ago, like when they are in their late teens to early 20′s. Like if there was a flashback to them before the kids were born.

in the present day headcanon Félix is a super cool chill dad and uncle, and very supporting and affectionate with his wife. I imagine him as like a stay at home dad (at least while antonio is still little) or having a really flexible job helping out the community in some way, but mostly hes just there whenever any of the kids need him. also is the one that taught dolores to play guitar and comforts her when she is really overstimulated. hes also the only one who can talk pepa down from when shes really wound up. he does have a tiktok where he doles out fatherly advice and is just a cool guy everyone wants to know (people keep commenting on camilos vids that his dad is also hot and he still hates it)

age 20-ish Félix was definitely the coolest guy in the neighborhood. he knows everybody and if you need anything he’s got your back. is a hobby musician and plays nightclubs with friends. kind of a party boy / ladies man but still wholesome and awesome. he’s been into pepa since they were like teenagers but she’s so hot and cold moody that he can’t tell she likes him back. but then bruno lets it slip that she has a crush on him and Félix is at her door 10 minutes later with flowers and playing a song he wrote her.  

his color scheme is golds/oranges/browns, very tropical vibes prints and fabrics. a gold chain cause he’s just that kind of dad. and he always brings an umbrella in case pepa and him get caught in the rain

in the present day headcanon Agustín is still a super supportive dorky dad to all his kids and neices and nephews. i pictured him as like a middle school-ish teacher that asks mirable and camilo how he can seem cool to students. hes definitely the kind of dad that uses genz slang incorrectly but very sincerely. he doesn’t have a tiktok but mirabel does include him in her videos sometimes. he does have an instagram and likes all of his kids pics and leaves very cute supportive comments.

age 20-ish Agustín was a student teacher who came to the encanto (which is just like a regular town i guess) after college. he’s very clumsy and gets hurt a whole lot (why are there so many bees in this town?), so he frequents that clinic that julieta volunteers at. she is so pretty and smart and funny and nice and he is so awkward and tongue tied that it takes months before he can even introduce himself. she ends up asking him out.  

the color pallet is navy blues and neutral tones. very smart dad vibes even as a young adult. some pops of purple and pink in his tie and flower pin to represent his daughters. 

the girls definitely made that mug for like fathers day or something, and the bee pin is like an inside joke. julieta also send him to work with lots of band aids in case he needs them

Pepa Modern AU Outfit Layout

While this is a modern au, i styled the outfits for the parents generation to be 25-ish years ago, like when they are in their late teens to early 20′s. Like if there was a flashback to them before the kids were born.

in the present day headcanon Pepa is a meteorologist working in emergancy forecasting and preparation. She’s already prone to anxiety and her job can be stressful so she is always pretty high-strung and needs to relax more. she’s a little over bearing but she is super supportive and protective of her kids. she strikes me as the kind of mom that was just waiting for camilo to come out and now she wears those “i love my queer/nb kid” shirts”. she does not have a tiktok but she does guest star in some of camilo’s dance videos (people also keep commenting that their mom is hot and they hate it) 

age 20-ish pepa was dealing with a lot of anxiety and probably didn’t get adequate help for it for many years. shes very driven and ambitious but prone to mood swings and overreacting. at the same time she is very sweet and loving, wears her heart on her sleeve, has lots of crushes as a teen, but is an awkward flirt. her and felix probably had crushes on each other for a long time but didn’t know it, and then when they finally start dating they get engaged like a month later. also she has braces cause i think theyre cute. never wears her retainer tho. 

her color pallet is light yellows/oranges/golds with soft flowy fabrics. for this layout i was very drawn to like a 70′s teen aesthetic. 

The dress on the left is a jaguar/cheetah (idk the difference guys) print, foreshadowing antonio’s interests.

in the present day headcanon Julieta is a doctor specializing in holistic medicine and cooking is a hobby that helps her decompress. all of her kids aren’t very good at cooking or baking but they try to help anyway and thats their bonding activity. She eventually starts a tiktok after mirabel keeps talking about it where she makes fun recipe videos (kinda like tabitha brown) and has a lot of mom vibes. 

age 20-ish julieta is kind of quiet and very nurturing and school focused. when her siblings are stressed she usually stays up late and makes them food while they vent. acts of service are definitely her love language. she volunteers at a clinic where this dorky guy keeps coming in with bee stings and wrist sprains. he’s kinda cute tho. 

her color pallet is blues/teals with gold accents. lots of floral lace and embroidery too. she probably is the one who taught mirabel how to sew. the shapes are very ruffly and flowy. 

The pinafore skirt with the white blouse was especially meant to look kind of like an apron (i had to piece that one together out of a couple things, cause i couldn’t find exactly what i wanted). The necklace also has little herbs on it, which i thought a cute little cooking reference.

Bruno Modern AU Outfit Layout

So sometimes I make these layouts for characters and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details:

While this is a modern au, i styled the outfits for the parents generation to be 25-ish years ago, like when they are in their late teens to early 20′s. Like if there was a flashback to them before the kids were born. 

in the present day headcanon Bruno is reconnecting with his family and just generally getting his life together after feeling isolated for so long. Maybe he’s writing something like a play or novel, very inspired by the works of Gabriel García Márquez. he does not have a tiktok and really doesn’t understand social media at all, but mirabel and camilo sometimes can get him in the background of videos skulking around like a cryptid. 

age 20-ish bruno is a very reclusive artsy kid. wears big hoodies a lot. people think he’s creepy and brooding but really he’s just very quiet and socially uncomfortable. he has a very good intuition for when bad things are going to happen and is always anxious about them. still does all the superstitious things and ticks from the film (maybe ocd headcanon? or anxiety or nuerodivergent). yes he defiantly still has pet rats, he tries to teach them tricks but mostly theyre just for company. watches a lot of telenovellas with his sisters. 

for the color schemes i went with a lot of olive greens and greys, with very dark muted earth tones. and everything is very baggy and oversized. 

the eye motif, hourglass necklace, and tarot card shirt are all references to his gift in the movie, but for this au i think he would just like the mystic goth aesthetic. also i think he would wear really thick sole boots so he can be as tall as his sisters.

Antonio Modern AU Outfit Layout

So I make these layouts for characters sometimes and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details:

This one is a little smaller and simpler because Antonio is baby and i’m not super good at kid fashion.

Anyway in this AU Antonio is 5 ish years old like in the film and just a little ray of sunshine. He’s still very into animals and has a lot of animal plushies he talks to (and coerces his siblings and cousins to play with too). he does not have a tiktok cause he is a child but is occasionally featured on Mirabels or Camilos videos when he’s doing something super cute. he really likes doing art/crafts with mirabel and camilo teaches him dance moves.

The color pallet is yellows/reds/browns with colorful/rainbow accents. the outfits more casual play clothes, cause i don’t think any little kids really like wearing formal clothes. 

theres a couple animal pins representing the animals from the movie (toucan, capybara, frogs?) and i guess the headcanon is that he collects them or maybe his family gets him new ones all the time. he seems like one of those kids that reads the zoo books magazines and knows all these weird random facts about animals.

Camilo Modern AU Outfit Layout

Anyway I make these layouts for characters sometimes and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details:

For this modern au i headcanon Camilo (he/she/they) as being genderfluid nb and very into tiktok, fashion, dance, and just generally being a little shit starting gremlin (i love them so much). he definitely makes tea videos, tiktok dances, pranks that usually backfire, make-up tutorials (isabela helps with the eyeliner), and dunks on transphobes at all opportunities. She and mirabel help each other film vlogs, duet each other, and just generally are the chaotic teens of the family.  

Their color pallet is yollow/orange/brown, with some purple and pink accents (nb/fluid flag inspo). I wanted their aesthetic to be very GenZ trendy, like the shell choker, tropical print shirt, bucket hat, enamel pins, etc. I really did want to include a skirt ( because hell yeah camilo wears skirts and dresses) but i just couldn’t find one that looked perfect here. overall i wanted this layout to be a mix of general neutral pieces with fem and masc details and accents. 

The jumpsuit i kinda pieced together (on shoplook you can layer stuff together like this) so it’s a plain jumpsuit with embroidery patches added to it. I imagine that if they needed something for a special occasion, they would ask mirabel to help embroider it. 

also the doc martins because obviously (they hurt her feet but camilo does not care it’s for fashion)

Dolores Modern AU Outfit Layout

Anyway I make these layouts for characters sometimes and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details:

This is post-canon events of the film but also a modern au (it makes no sense don’t think about it) But this is my headcanon for a collage age Dolores, shes a music major and plays the piano, guitar, and ukulele. Also in this AU she is neurodivergent and has some form of auditory processing disorder. When she gets really overstimulated by noise she wears headphones and listens to white noise. she also writes music and posts origanal songs and covers to her tiktok, and stealth videos she gets of mirabel and camilo doing dumb shit. 

Her color pallet is yellow/orange/red, but more muted earth tones of those colors (does that make sense?) plus very soft fabrics and romantic silhouettes. she seems like she wants to look cute but also be very comfortable.  

Instead of the bow she has in the film i put in a print head wrap (found a couple styles online) I thought it would be cool as an afrolatina that she would style her hair with different wraps and prints.

Luisa Modern AU Outfit Layout

Anyway I make these layouts for characters sometimes and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details:

This is post-canon events of the film but also a modern au (it makes no sense don’t think about it) But this is my headcanon for post-high school / early collage age Luisa. I imagine her maybe taking a break from school to focus on mental health and explore her interests, something like physical therapy. She makes fitness tiktoks, but also talks about the importance of rest days and work-life balance, and trying new stuff like yoga and dance. (also people on tiktok are hella thirsty for her, she is mildly confused but flattered)

Her color scheme is dark purples/navy, with some red/pink accents. athletic fashion isn’t my favorite thing to style but I think this is a good mix of work out stuff and athleisure. I kept it pretty casual because thats the vibe i got from her in the film. 

The unicorn shirt is her favorite and Mirabel definitely got it for Luisa for her birthday. also it’s small but the bead bracelet says “soft” (also made by mirabel) 

The only problem i have with shoplook.io is that the clothing options aren’t very size inclusive or diverse in body shapes. you can upload your own images from the web or adjust the width and length, so it’s not terrible but has room for improvement. I fussed around with the proportions of these a little to show her body shape, but if i did any more the images would start to warp.

Isabela Modern AU Outfit Layout

Anyway I make these layouts for characters sometimes and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details:

This is post-canon events of the film but also a modern au (it makes no sense don’t think about it) But this is my headcanon for collage age Isabela exploring her style and feeling less pressured to be perfect (*cough* also coming out as a lesbian *cough* *cough*) in this AU she’s a botany major going into into a masters degree in organic biology. Also she is a instagram and tiktok influencer that talks about sustainable fashion, organic beauty products, and #plantmom life. 

Her color scheme is lots of pinks/purples/oranges, with some darker colors thrown in for an edge. obviously lots of floral prints, but instead of being super delicate and pretty, they are bold colors and patterns to show her change at the end of the film.  

The two piece dress on the left is from a brand i found borgo de nor, never heard of them before but they have really awesome designs inspired a lot of these outfits. I wanted Isabela not to have a traditional gown and I thought this two piece was really fun and bold.

For the accessories the earrings, bag, and bracelet all are the color pallet of the lesbian flag, plus the cactus necklace cause What else can I do is a bop.

This is probably one of my favorite layouts ever. I really love the colors and the way the patterns contrast each other. plus i’m an isabela simp

Mirabel Modern AU Outfit Layout

Anyway I make these layouts for characters sometimes and i really hyperfixated on Encanto so here we are. I’ll talk about some of the important pieces and details:

For this modern au i headcanon Mirabel as having a tiktok where she blogs about family stuff, music, art, and crafting. Especially with embroidery, sewing, crocheting, etc, so a lot of her clothes and accessories are upcycled or handmade. She also makes friendship bracelets for the rest of her family.

I used a lot of colors for this one but mostly focused on cool tone blue/purple/pink (bisexual af) with pops of gold/orange. To match her green glasses she has a pale green emerald pendant (given to her by bruno)

The dress on the far left is a vintage butterfly print gown from the 70′s. I really liked the butterfly motif in the film around mirabel (representing transformation and embracing change) so i used a lot of them in all her outfits. 

The butterfly purse on the right is a wayuu mochila bag i found on etsy. idk how authentic it is cause i was learning about them as i went. but i saw that post about these bags from the movie and wanted to include one in each layout.

And yes she does wear crocs fight me.
