the first day of my hand drafting class in my senior year of college, after the prof taught us how to frame up on the drafting table and went over how to use the tools we'd bought, he had us all take our pencils and make a mark on the top right corner of the vellum. then he walked us through the setup steps - the border, the title block, etc.
and he told us to erase the mark.
when someone - rosie, i think - asked what the mark was for he smiled.
"if you give a novice student an expensive, blank piece of paper, they panic. they think if i start using that i will ruin it. so the first thing i want all of you to do, any time you stare at a blank piece of paper, is to ruin it a little and take the pressure off yourself. pencil erases. anxiety has to be managed."
i hated that man for a myriad of reasons, but that was some of the best advice i've ever been given.

apparently people are now purchasing thick water to make slimes with because of a trend on tiktok
thick water is for disabled people who can’t swallow properly. stores usually have extremely limited supplies of it.
please don’t buy thick water for fun or to make slime with. it’s literally the only way some disabled people can drink anything. It’s not a fucking toy

Seeing crazy popular posts from people who never had to pack a panic bag about how much privilege Ukrainians possess is very fucking funny ngl
There's a reason why any post that compares us to Palestinians is never from Palestinians themselves but instead from ppl who proclaim themselves defenders of the innocent yet very easily turn their backs on us cos it's not "new" anymore even though our situation is getting worse day by day. And the reason is that people who actually know what it's like to live through unimaginable pain and sorrow on a nation wide scale would never think to discredit that pain in other people. Unlike someone whose worst struggle was a recent college exam and no chai latte in Starbucks.
I'd say be better but I don't think you can so whatever.

I would be the worst spy of all time because on one hand I overshare like hell, but on the other hand I also have THE shittiest memory so it’s really a lose/lose scenario for everyone involved.

“The magic in that country was so thick and tenacious that it settled over the land like chalk-dust and over floors and shelves like sticky plaster-dust. (House-cleaners in that country earned unusually good wages.) If you lived in that country, you had to de-scale your kettle of its encrustation of magic at least once a week, because if you didn’t, you might find yourself pouring hissing snakes or pond slime into your teapot instead of water. (It didn’t have to be anything scary or unpleasant, especially in a cheerful household - magic tended to reflect the atmosphere of the place in which it found itself – but if you want a cup of tea, a cup of lavender-and-gold pansies or ivory thimbles is unsatisfactory.)”

Rumpelstiltskin's vulnerabilities reflected in costume
I’m just basking in the fact that Rumpel goes from a dozen layers of self-defence in his clothing choices, gradually paring them down, scene by scene, until his throat and almost his heart are bared entirely to Belle within the confines of the castle when they’re alone.
Jacket, waistcoat, shirt, cravat, spiky scarf, floaty scarf, neckpin.
Shirt, leathery waistcoat, cravat, neckpin.
Shirt, leathery waistcoat, thin little scrap of a scarf (when he gives her the library. he’s starting to regress)
Golden waistcoat of silk, puffy golden shirt.
Red waistcoat of Lurve, puffy golden shirt open almost to his sternum.
And the second she’s gone for good, after he punts her out, we’re right back to costume #1 - all the defences are back up, but it’s too late.

The clones really are a fascinating contrast to stormtroopers. And I don’t mean Finn and the First Order because they follow in the wake of The Clone Wars; I mean Imperial stormtroopers who dominated the Star Wars imagination first and the longest.
For decades, stormtroopers basically functioned like clones: they looked and sounded the same, even though we knew there were different people underneath the helmets they never took off; different faces, same personality.
Then actual clones basically inverted the model: genetically identical men used every opportunity to differentiate themselves, from their armor to their body modifications to their behavior; same face, different personalities.
The one place where the Venn diagram intersected was loyalty, but even then, they still inverted each other’s models. Clones designed to be unwaveringly loyal and obedient consistently questioned orders and their place in the galaxy. Meanwhile, stormtroopers from disparate planets and cultures unfailingly followed the orders of an impersonal Empire.
For all of Star Wars’s faults, for all the ways in which they dumb down or gloss over traditional scifi modes and themes, I can’t think of a more thorough exploration of cloning, the attendant questions of identity and free will, and the sociopolitical and metaphysical implications of a race of genetically identical men, of sameness in difference and difference in sameness, than the clone troopers.

Zionazi terrorists are committing 3 to 4 pogroms a day in the West Bank against Palestinian villages. They are burning everything they can lay their hands on. The zionazi terrorist forces are accompanying them. They shot at the journalists covering the matter, and shot at Palestinians fleeing the attacks. Second week of April 2024.

Dont' you think it's kind of not cool to make Nuala look bad in order to make Nuada look good? I love your fic and I love Nuadabut you don't need to villinize female characters.
Nuala doesn't need my help to look bad, she's canonically okay with slaughtering trillions of her own people in the name of "honor." That's IN the movie.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT DYLAN IS BISEXUAL????????????????
No, Dylan is demi/graysexual* panromantic. Or possibly biromantic, I haven't decided yet.
She's a self-insert** (sort of; some of our issues and interests are different and we're different races because she's the twin of a canon character) so I'm not putting gender limits on her romantic inclinations because I don't have any afaik.
The reason Dylan is demi though (because I'm not) is that I accidentally wrote her that way without realizing it until a few readers pointed it out.
I wasn't going to be a bitch and go back and change her into a straight person or an allosexual - I mean, why? Demisexual worked with the story. Graysexual worked with the story. Just because Nuada was Prince Horn Dog didn't change anything; I'm a very sexual person and my husband is ace. We are happily married.
So yeah, Nuada is Prince Randy Pants and Dylan is demi/graysexual pan- or bi-romantic.
*Ftr, in Once Upon a Moonless Dark, Dylan is still graysexual but she is under the influence of potions and magic. This doesn't change her orientation.
**almost every OC female lead I write is bi or pan in some way (either bi/pansexual or bi/panromantic) because that's what I want to write. 🤷🏽
