Role of Zinc - How it Helps Us to Maintain Good Health
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about the role of zinc, and how it helps us to maintain good health.
Zinc is involved in many physiological processes within our body. It's found in every cell throughout our body, and we know that it's involved in the body's defense mechanisms namely the immune system. So proper levels of zinc, helps us maintain a healthy immune system.
Zinc
Why it's important (physiology) Zinc is found in cells throughout the body. It is needed for the body's defensive (immune) system to properly work. It plays a role in cell division, cell growth, wound healing, and the breakdown of carbohydrates. Zinc is also needed for the senses of smell and taste. During pregnancy, infancy, and childhood the body needs zinc to grow and develop properly. Zinc also enhances the action of insulin.
Best food sources Animal protein, shellfish, nuts, legumes, and whole grains
Side effects of too little Frequent infections Poor appetite Poor smell and taste Skin sores, slow wound healing Hypogonadism in males
Side effects of too much Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea Copper and/or iron deficiency
Typical doses RDA and other RDA- male 11mg/day, female 8-11 mg/day
Some research has shown: • When taken for at least 5 months, zinc may reduce your risk of becoming sick with the common cold. • Starting to take zinc supplements within 24 hours after cold symptoms begin may reduce how long the symptoms last and make the symptoms less severe. However, supplementation beyond the RDA is not recommended at this time. Anecdotally with patients, improved libido and erection and increase sperm count

Choose the Right Pillow and Sleeping Positions to Reduce Neck Pain
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about how choosing the right pillow and sleep positions to reduce neck pain.
Hey, Dr. Mark Testa here. Today I'm going to talk to you about pillows & sleep positions. I get this question asked frequently "How to reduce neck pain in bed?"
A bad night's sleep can elevate your stress hormone cortisol and glucose levels. In men, it can lower testosterone levels by ten years. The bad news is it only takes a few nights of poor sleep to cause these kinds of changes in our body.
In fact, poor sleep can affect the circadian day/night cycle of the body and increase the risk for many poor health outcomes. The World Health Organization considers night shift work to be carcinogenic because of the effects on the circadian rhythm.
Sleep positions and pillows can affect neck pain. In this video, I'll discuss why sleeping on your stomach may aggravate neck pain. Why a down-filled pillow is best to support your neck and a better night's sleep.
A thick pillow can aggravate your neck discs, while no pillow can aggravate the neck joints (facets).
Choosing a good pillow can make all the difference in developing neck pain.

Regenexx Perc-ACLR - Non-Surgical Treatment for ACL Tears
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about Non-Surgical Treatment for ACL Tears.
The ACL or Anterior Cruciate Ligament is an important stabilizer of the knee for front-to-back movements and twisting motions. It is most commonly injured while playing sports. Most patients think that replacing a Torn ACL is like getting a part replaced in their car. However, the research on ACL surgeries paints a different story. Most athletes who had ACL surgery never regained their normal balance and control over that knee. Plus athletes are six times more likely to re-injure the same ACL or opposite ACL within a year of their initial surgery. Four years after surgery patients who had ACL surgery had no more function and no less arthritis than those patients who didn't have the surgery. Why is all of this happening? Largely because the new surgically installed ACL isn't at all like the original equipment. First, it must go in at a much steeper angle so it can never provide the same kind of front-to-back stabilization as the original ACL. The surgically installed ACL also doesn't have the same intact nerve supply which is needed to fine-tune the normal balance and motion of the knee. But for many who suffer from an ACL injury, there's good news. Regenexx ACL is a non-surgical procedure that utilizes the stem cells from your own body to assist in the healing of ACL tears. Rather than a surgical amputation and replacement of your ACL, it's an exacting image-guided injection of stem cells into your ACL tear. In our registry-based study, we were able to see good healing of the ACL and follow-up MRIs in more than 7 in 10 patients, and 75 percent of patients return to their favorite sports without the need for surgery. So if you've experienced an ACL injury consider the Regenexx ACL procedure and let your own stem cells help you get back in the game and on the path to better health.

2 Hormones Imbalanced Makes Weight Loss and Finding Your Ideal Weight Difficult
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about 2 Hormones Imbalanced Makes Weight Loss and Finding Your Ideal Weight Difficult.
Hey, Dr. Mark Testa here, in this video I'll talk about two hormones that could be imbalanced in your body causing it to be more and more difficult for you to find your ideal weight.
Two hormones are responsible for much of our energy metabolism, insulin, and glucagon.
Insulin is released in the fed state when it senses elevated blood glucose levels. Insulin moves glucose into the cell to be used for energy. Cells can only use so much glucose before the body has to find other storage for it. Namely in fat cells and in organs. Both are detrimental to the body and healthy longevity. As you can see this would occur in the fed state. Insulin is a storage hormone. It elevates at an imbalanced level and performs these actions when we eat too much, too long, snack between meals, consume simple sugar and refined carbohydrates. This imbalance can lead to type 2 diabetes, obesity, elevated triglycerides, inflammation, fatty liver, and other serious health conditions.
Glucagon is a catabolic hormone. When blood glucose levels are low, glucagon is released to mobilize the stored energy. First looking for glycogen then looking for fat. If insulin levels are elevated, glucagon has no reason to do its job. It never mobilized fat from storage to use as fuel. The body has to be in a fasted state for this hormone to work efficiently. It can take 4-6 hours after a meal for blood glucose levels to drop and another 4 hours or so to burn through the stored glycogen in the liver and muscles. So in essence it can take 10-12 hours of no food for glucagon to come out and do its job.
Bring these hormones into balance by not snacking between meals, reducing sugar and refined carbohydrate intake, and fasting overnight for 12 hours. As these hormones become more sensitive and under medical supervision, you can begin to extend the fasting time to 14-24 hours.

Food as Medicine - Sources Of Vitamin C, D, Polyphenols, Zinc, and Quercetin
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about how Food works as Medicine & the Sources Of Vitamin C, D, Polyphenols, Zinc, and Quercetin.
Hippocrates said let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food over 2500 years ago. This stands as true today as it ever has. A whole-food, plant-centered, diet os one of the best ways to get high-quality, unrefined, nutrient-dense nutrition into the body.
Plants contain micronutrients known to support the health of many systems and processes in the body, feed the microbiome, and support a healthy immune system. Many vitamins and minerals can also be found in animal protein from beef to fish and everything in between.
The key is to limit as much unprocessed and unrefined food and eat as close to the earth as possible.
~Vitamin C- citrus, berries, broccoli, peppers, sweet potato, tomatoes, guava, parsley, kale ~Vitamin D- fatty fish, cheese, egg yolk, mushrooms, oatmeal ~Quercetin- apples, onions, teas, berries, raspberry, grapes, broccoli ~Polyphenols- dark chocolate, berries, spices like turmeric and peppermint, apples, cherries, beans, raw nuts, onions, spinach, coffee/tea, red wine ~Zinc- red meat, shellfish, legumes, raw nuts, and seeds, eggs, dark chocolate

7 Simple Ways To Get More Happiness In Your Life | How To Influence Happiness?
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about 7 simple ways to get more happiness in your life and how to influence happiness.
Hey Dr. Mark Testa here, and today I'm gonna help you answer the question for yourself are you happy in your life?
Now researchers out of Yale have accumulated a lot of great information about happiness. I think the better question they ask is are you happy in your life, and the other question is, are you happy with your life? Now, these are two different questions that rather than are you happy cause we don't know where that's supposed to go, am I happy today in the last 15 minutes? in the last 15 years? am I happy with my whole progress in life? and it doesn't really help us anchor anything. So I think the question are you happy in your life and are you happy with your life are questions worth answering. Now there's a lot of research out there that shows us that we can influence our happiness. Really pretty easily and a lot of it is actually counterintuitive
Are you happy with your life? Happiness can be influenced. Try some of these:
good nutrition
good sleep
exercise
mindfulness meditation
being other-focused
count your wins/gratitude
good social relationship

Beginners Guide To Intermittent Fasting - 4 Simple Steps To Start - Regenexx
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about the beginner's guide to intermittent fasting & 4 simple steps to start.
Hey Dr. Mark Testa here, this is the beginner's guide to intermittent fasting. I'm going to share with you four simple tips to start with a 12-hour overnight fast. It's the simplest way to get started you're going to be sleeping the majority of the time, and you can do this and these four steps are really foolproof to get started. It takes about four to six weeks to get the body into a really fat-adapted state where it knows to go burn fat as fuel. So we're going to crawl walk run with intermittent fasting and overnight is the easiest way to start 12 hours.
Start fasting while you're asleep. These 4 simple steps will make it easy.
Intermittent fasting (IF) is not new to human beings. It is the way out biology was meant to work. Eat, stop, eat. Modern times have put food in easy reach. Many Americans eat 15 hours a day or more based on research from the Salk Institute. This may be why over 40% of Americans are now considered obese and more than 70% of the healthcare dollar is used to manage chronic health, and lifestyle diseases.
It may take up to six weeks to train the body to burn fat as fuel. IF can be the crawl, walk, run approach to help you achieve this goal. It's easiest to start with an overnight fast. You'll be asleep for most of it. Fasting has many benefits to health that are too vast to ignore.
When you eat again, make sure your food is healthy as you can do. Be sure to drink enough water.
Start here:
Be done eating 3 hours before bed or no later than 7pm
Keep your eating window for meals to one hour or less
NO snacking!
Expand your fasting window as you are capable of doing do
The benefits of fasting are vast:
weight loss
healthy levels of inflammation
healthy levels of insulin and glucose
improved health of the microbiome
cellular renewal and rejuvenation
disease modification
improved sleep
Consult your doctor before starting if:
you are on diabetes medication
you are on blood pressure medication
your BMI is below 10 or over 30
you have a health condition

Medicare Patient? Watch This Why You Will Owe Money Back If Medicare Pays For "Stem Cell" Injections
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Are you a Medicare Patient? Then watch this video. Throughout this video, you will know about why you will owe money back if medicare pays for amniotic or umbilical cord "Stem Cell" injections.
Hey, it's Dr. Centeno and we have a lot of clinics out there advertising that they can get medicare to pay for the amniotic and umbilical cord and quote stem cell injections, and this is a video about why if you go that route you're going to end up owing a lot of money back.
So some clinics again are claiming that they can get medicare and other insurance companies to cover these in quote stem cell procedures. Now if you've watched other videos I have you know that multiple labs have tested these products and found no stem cells. But the bigger question here is whether or not you're going to end up owing a bunch of money if you go down this road. So number one - Is this true that medicare will actually cover these things? and the answer is "No". We've looked at all the different medicare guidelines for all the different medicare regions and there is no coverage for orthopedic or pain injections for these tissues. Now medicare may pay some of these claims in error.
So what's going to happen when a medicare RAC contractor reimbursement contractor discovers this error the doctor is going to get a nasty gram letter from medicare.
In that certified letter, it's going to say something like this:
"We reviewed your charts, we found that Medicare overpaid you by hundreds of / thousands of dollars, and you owe that money back to us. You can appeal but if you lose by the way you're going to end up in federal prison. So we will expect that check in the next 90 days thank you very much and have a nice day.
So where does this money come from the doctors got to come up with a lot of money very very quickly? The answer is "You". Because you will have signed a contract with the doctor that if medicare another insurance company doesn't cover something you're responsible for it.
How much money are we talking about here? Well, the doctor gets paid about four thousand dollars per joint for the reimbursement of the tissue. So that means if you had four areas injected you owe the doctor sixteen thousand dollars.
So again just a big warning here "Please don't set yourself up for a huge future bill". Medicare doesn't really cover these tissues for use in orthopedic and pain injections. They are expensive and medicare will want this money back from the doctor. So that money at the end of the day is coming from you.

What is Autophagy and Why You Should Care? Autophagy Procedures and Benefits
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about Autophagy, why you should care about it, its procedures, and its benefits.
Autophagy is the body's way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells. Autophagy, the original cellular detox occurs when the body is in a calorically restricted state and starts to consume senescent, old, weak, and dying cells as a source of energy. This benefits us by cleaning house and keeping these old cells from wreaking havoc on other more healthy cells. Autophagy can occur to some extent from exercise or after the body has been in a fasted state for about 48 hours. As one begins to consume food again, the body in its infinite wisdom will release stem cells to begin to rebuild the tissue that the body consumed. Autophagy is triggered when mTOR is suppressed from caloric restriction, and reduced glucose and amino acid ingestion. Eating these macro nutrients will stop the process of autophagy.

What is Ketosis? Ketosis Procedures & How it works? - Regenexx
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about Ketosis, its procedures & how it works.
Ketosis is a metabolic state in which ketones become an important source of energy for the body and brain. It's a process that happens when your body doesn't have enough carbohydrates to burn for energy. Instead, it burns fat and makes things called ketones, which it can use for fuel.
Ketosis occurs when the body begins to burn fat as fuel because glucose is in short supply. Ketones are an alternative fuel source, made in the liver from the burning of fatty acids. The body can get into ketosis from an overnight fast usually lasting 12 hours or more, from longer fasts, and from certain diets like the common ketogenic diet. The brain can readily use ketones for fuel when glucose is unavailable.

Meniscus Tear Recovery Without Surgery - Martin Fuentes - Regenexx
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about Martin Fuentes & his story of Meniscus Tear Recovery Without Surgery.
Martin Fuentes is from Mexico city & he is the driver of the 07 Ferrari car. A couple of years ago he had a little incident in his right knee. He broke the meniscus & he was scheduled for surgery. But our team recommended him to try out regenexx. You know surgery is always a major thing & he always tried to stay away from surgery. Then we reinjected it on his knee and after a couple of weeks, he was able to get back on the treadmill. You know it's a procedure that you have to make sure it heals. So after a couple of weeks, he was running and our doctor told him to start running a mile, then start increasing and now he is running 12-15 miles with no problems. So he is very happy now.
Since the meniscus is a living tissue, there are parts that have good blood circulation, and tears in those areas heal best.
Physical therapy can be effective in healing some tears, but frequently, the body needs a helping hand to facilitate and speed up the process. That’s where Regenexx’s regenerative orthopedic procedures come in.
At Regenexx, we invented a new approach to orthopedic care we call Interventional Orthopedics. This minimally invasive alternative to meniscus surgery uses ultrasound-guided technology to precisely inject your own bone marrow concentrate — which contains stem cells — directly where it’s needed in the joint.
The cells in your bone marrow concentrate work at the site of your injury to promote your body’s natural healing abilities to treat the tear and avoid surgery.
Regenexx procedures are intended to help avoid the side effects of surgery and support the healthy, cushioning environment the meniscus provides for the knee. Generally, the recovery time is much shorter than with surgery, and patients can return to normal daily activity levels within a matter of weeks and to more active sports within a few months.
We offer a unique approach to treating orthopedic injuries non-surgically based on over fifteen years of research and experience.

Hip Labrum Regenerative Orthopedic Procedure - Interventional Orthopedics - Regenexx
Welcome to the "Regenexx". Throughout this video, you will learn about Regenerative Orthopedic procedures.
Regenerative Orthopedics repairs the labrum and supports the formation of cartilage in the hip environment. This regenerative therapy has been found effective for the treatment of labral injuries. And the non-surgical treatment involves the injection of natural substances into the degenerated hip to stimulate healing.
At Regenexx, we invented a new approach to orthopedic care we call Interventional Orthopedics. This minimally invasive alternative to hip surgery involves the use of image guidance technology to precisely inject your own bone marrow concentrate — which contains stem cells — directly where it’s needed to repair damaged tissue in the hip joint structure.
The cells in your bone marrow concentrate work at the site of your injury to promote the growth of new, healthy tissue that aids in the stabilization of your hip joint for better function and mobility.
To really understand why Regenexx is very different. Let's take a look at one of our procedures. What you're about to see, your orthopedic surgeon can't do, the guy down the street that does a little bit of ultrasound can't do. So let's take a look at this advanced precise guided work. Let's take a look at what interventional orthopedics looks like in the hip.
We offer a unique approach to treating orthopedic injuries non-surgically based on over fifteen years of research and experience.
