omg!! I’m a SG IB student who’s interested in art and ur the first Singaporean ik to be taking dance as a course! Do u mind sharing your experiences on how u got to where u are and how ur finding it?

omg hi!!!! yeah hardly anyone takes dance for IB in singapore unless you're from a *certain national arts school* (which I was HAHA). I did the IB exams in Nov 2019 so I'm done already, but I LOVED doing HL Dance because there's no papers (so one less subject to worry about during the final exams) and all the assessments are very prepare-able and rehearsed, like no one's gonna throw something unexpected at you or anything.

I think the HL Dance curriculum (for my year, at least) also allowed me to explore a lot of things about dance that I was interested in, in terms of choreography, and theory and writing. It certainly has its flaws (as I am now reflecting upon as a Dance student in university), but I think the IB dance curriculum is quite a comprehensive, well-rounded introduction to the field of dance as a whole, as far as pre-university dance course go.

what pens what books everything for the aesthetic notes plss

i use the muji retractable gel ink pens! i love them so much, but other really good pens are the pilot juice pens, zebra sarasa clip pens and uniball signo gel pens🖊

for notebooks, i tend to find my notebooks in japanese dollar stores and from muji. i think notebooks with lines that are closer together (maybe about 6mm wide?) tend to make for prettier-looking notes :-) hope that helps!

got home from classes at about 5pm, made dinner and started on research for my essay for one of my modules! going really well so far!

i'm sooo happy that i bought the muji planner for 2022! i had one in 2020 but didn't get one for 2021 and i've really missed the layout of the muji planner✨

just some reflections: i've been finding that it feel like time is passing by so fast but i have so many things i wanna do! i think having a planner and using it to organize my day is my way of enacting control over my life in a period of time where it seems like everything's going by so fast??

- rough notes from a reading on Dance of the African Diaspora

it's day 3 of quarantine and i am already starting to lose it a bit🙄started the day with a bit of stretching and grooving, and then i can't really remember what I did other than do some of my course readings and video calling friends and family🧐I'm so intrigued by this reading because in Singapore, the African diaspora isn't very prominent in the dance scene, but it's so vibrant here in the UK! In Singapore, dance of the african diaspora is mostly limited to the street dance scene, but I think the cultural ties to Africa are definitely much less as compared to african diaspora dances in the US and the UK. It's so cool that it's such a big thing here and that the scene is so varied - from african contemporary dance to street dance to traditional african dances! If any of you guys practice dances that are linked to africa in some way, comment below!! i'd love to know!
