I had a dream about us last night where you were this cool artist I admired the art of (who doesn’t exist outside the dream world) who was following me and we DMed each other on Discord all nicely sometimes, but over time you grew increasingly hostile and mean towards me and my art skills until some day after sending this ask, you just DMed me confirming it was you, and blocked me. But for some reason, you were able to keep sending me DMs and I just wasn’t able to respond, and you just kept DMing me ranting about me and how you hate me over and over again every time I thought you were done, but I eventually realized I could just react to your messages with letter emojis, and after a long time of not knowing what to write, spelled out “dummy” (but like, with a weird N emoji for the second M). You then proceeded to explode at me, in shock I would be so “rude” to you, but then I realized I was somehow able to just type full sentences using letter emojis on Discord. I kept writing responses and you read them, although I took a very long time pressing each button, making several spelling errors, but I talked about how I still think your art is cool, but what’s not cool is how randomly rude you started getting to me. I said I liked your Olivia design, which you apparently had, and posted it somewhere you could see (I kinda forgot the details about this one). You saw the drawing, and went silent before you unblocked me without telling me, and sent a transparent edit of the Olivia drawing I made. You said you liked it, and thanked me, and a minute later, it was your profile picture. I was REALLY surprised and confused about your sudden change of heart, but we kept talking for a bit, and somehow got back on good terms. You said you actually don’t mind me now, and want to be friends, so we became friends! We shared PMTOK art with one another and even eventually hung out irl, somehow (everyone I know in my dreams is capable of meeting me irl easily, for some reason). I wound up telling Sega about this, and we were just relieved we had someone who we could respect. I think you might’ve even drawn ME fanart, but I don’t remember!

Could u elaborate about the dsmp story being bad? Not a rabid/brain dead fan, just genuinely curious and I enjoy reading people's rants lolol

oh you dont know the floodgates you just opened

a few things:

1. despite not liking the creators of the dsmp anymore, I don't actually hate most of them. [the ones that are particularly unsavory fall outside of this of course] so all that I'm saying i truly mean in a critical sense towards the story, its also just all purely my opinion as someone who enjoys fictional and fantasy stories and who like criticizing works to see what it does well and what it doesn't do well

2. for clarification I'm going to use the c![name] to indicate when I'm talking about the characters. Don't get me wrong, I think its annoying too but its the only way I'm gonna be able to write this thing without getting something across the wrong way yknow?

3. I stopped watching the streams after November 16th, [save for one Techno one but I closed out after a particularly bad story beat lol] and so all information coming afterward is all second hand from either me seeing people on twt talk abt it or people dming me. All i really know is up to dream's imprisonment and some stuff past that.

4. This is mostly aimed towards the "main" story, so stuff abt the badlands, eggpire, and whatnot are briefly mentioned.

anyways uh, i'll try to be brief but also include enough information to get why i feel the way i do on some stuff across

A. Performances Alright obviously these people are all streamers, so obviously they might not be the best actors, and hell no one is even asking that of them. However, when you're telling a story that's based on the audio with the visuals kinda coming to a second, it's gotta be pretty strong. I will say, some of the best actors in my opinion are Wilbur, Tommy, and Tubbo. I would include Ranboo but I never watched any of his story bits or story streams so I can't say much. Wilbur and Tommy are excellent in selling their character's emotions and feelings, when I watch the stream I don't feel like I'm watching an rp but an actual thought-out story yknow? And one of my favorite Tubbo examples was in the Hog Hunt video whenever Techno attacked him, he sounded genuinely afraid and I believed everything his character was feeling.

However, unfortunately, not everyone is gonna be that good. And I'm gonna say it; Dream and Techno have to be the worst out of the entire cast. I understand Techno's whole character is this monotoned badass, however, when really emotional moments hit I feel like he never lets that fall, and a lot of intense moments just ring hollow. And I'm sorry but Dream's attempts at being intimidating leave me laughing whenever I watch them. It feels like he watched that one scene from The Marriage with Adam Driver and Scarlett Johannson and said "Oh this is what good acting looks like! Just yelling." His whole "I don't give a FUCK about Spirit!" speech isn't as great as people keep making it out to be. And whenever he tries to act coy when being a villain it feels like a guy reading the script for the first time, a bit like he's trying too hard. I have more problems with his character but his portrayal certainly doesn't help.

Everyone else is fine, and I don't feel strongly either way about a lot of them.

B. The "Lore" Okay first off, I can't be the only one who thinks it's silly that people are calling the dsmp's story "lore" when it's not, it's the fucking story. Lore indicates backstory to either the world or the characters, which a lot of the streams don't really pertain to. This is a really petty section but god it's a weird pet peeve of mine.

Other than the misusage of "lore" vs "story", the actual lore and world-building of the world are so lackluster that new elements can be introduced whenever and it often feels cluttered or not well thought out at all. And here's the thing, I feel like if the writers sat down just for a few minutes to establish world rules and general history, a lot of this could be solved! but so much is made up on the spot that it starts to feel like they're grabbing at straws to keep people invested, trying to reach that next high and intense story beat without actually earning it.

C. The Egg / Eggpire This is a pretty minor note since I was only invested in the Egg storyline for a little bit, but god it's so underused that it's almost embarrassing. Bad has provided this super interesting antagonistic force that's infecting the SMP, can control people, and who one of our main character is immune to, and it's just never used or even talked about again? Now I understand if he wanted to keep it to a side storyline only, however, to introduce this borderline eldritch creature and force within the world and then never have it dealt with is so weird.

D. The Writing Oh boy this is. kinda a big one. Now I'm not gonna lie, it's pretty obvious I have a bias for the Wilbur writing over the current team [that consisting of Dream, Quackity, and Tommy mostly]. I don't this his writing is perfect by any means, the characters constantly bringing up traitors got obnoxious after a while, and writing Hamilton but in Minecraft really isn't the modern Shakespeare or anything. However, I think his exploration of characters and plot progression was a lot more thought out and well planned, like he actually had two brain cells behind the story yknow? The current team I think fails to be as emotional or even impactful, things happened too fast and my god was everything drowned in angst for so long.

Don't get me wrong, you gotta have your characters face hardships to make them reach their goal believable, but some of the shit they put the characters through just felt like too much. From c!Tubbo's constant comparison to c!Schlatt [who btw, fucking ordered his death and kept him from his friends in a nation he felt trapped in] and on a side note, i kinda really fucking dislike the "c!Schlatt dad!!" au's or the au's where c!Tubbo inherits some of Schlatt's features, it would be like c!Tommy getting a c!Dream mask after his exile, it's feels so weird yet people eat that shit up for some reason.

But god, did c!Tommy get the brunt of it all and in retrospect after his final death, it kinda feels really fucking gross. Now obviously, I'm not trusting any of these people to write decent mental health representation, but c!Tommy's PTSD and how it was explored was just degrading. [Specifically the scene in that one Techno stream where he saw the final control room from the first war, and had a flashback / panic attack where he started calling out for c!Dream. I understand this is an actual thing people with PTSD will experience, but it felt so fucking stereotypical it got on my nerves. I actually had to close out of the stream because it made me feel sick, fiction shouldn't leave you feeling that way.] And don't get me started on how they basically reused the formula from the previous arc. [Problem introduced -> Tensions rise as things start to fall apart -> Big confrontation -> Exile -> Return from Exile -> Blowing up L'Manberg, again.]

And speaking of characters-

E. Character Arcs, or the lack of them In my genuine opinion, some of these characters' arcs are so disappointing. Especially c!Tommy's. I'm not one to believe that he was a "selfish" character or anything, however, his goals were simply set on his discs and maybe c!Tubbo, he didn't have much outside that. However, L'Manberg gave him something to care about, he gave up his discs for it and he fought for it tooth and nail, I think it taught him to open up to others and trust more. It was a great character arc for him to have, seeing him still fight even after his first exile alongside c!Wilbur, to return safely to the nation that he and his found family had built.

But then his second exile happened, and I feel like all of that was undone.

c!Tommy's exile genuinely pisses me off for so many reasons. It's not that characters can't have their low points after reaching a major change or feeling like they've "completed" their arcs or anything, but it's more of the fact that it seems like he's never going to heal that feels like a spit in the face, especially to people who might have had setbacks like that before. Progress isn't linear, sometimes things happen and you get knocked back down, it can take a while to get back up, but I don't think c!Tommy's character is ever going to be allowed to get back up. From c!Dream, who pretty much was a constant abuser in his life, killing him then reviving him, and his still fractured relationship with c!Tubbo, which by the way I have a had time believing they would still be friends after all that happened, it feels like he can never get a win and it's generally kinda a shit way to treat your characters who have been abused. Of course, not all abused characters are going to get happy endings, I'm not trying to dictate that they all should, but c!Tommy deserves one and the fact that it's so obscure feels shitty.

Side note: we still don't have a canon reason to give a shit abt the discs. Like I'm sorry but without some sorta connection to the MacGuffin why should we give a shit about him getting them other than "he wants them lol". Like hell, I would even accept the classic "they were the last gifts from his parents" or something, but we still don't have a reason.

c!Tubbo also lacks a fulfilling arc as well, from someone who started out as a yes man, he has progressed a bit into having his own interests first, but besides that sometimes his character makes me so. depressed. He's easily one of the most pushed around and hated characters within the story, all for being a kid who didn't know what to do and he's in the same vein as c!Tommy; these kids can't get a break. Also, his anti-violence beliefs morphing into the "lets kill c!Techno lol!" bit was so out of place and without proper build-up it was like. what. And now he's building nukes?? god c!Tubbo makes me so sad because he's kicked around constantly and never given a chance to grow.

Another small note, I also don't really enjoy c!Techno at all. Besides the previously stated reasons of lack of emotions when they're really needed, I find his character to be weirdly pretentious. He talks as if he's constantly been betrayed and hurt but I personally, don't see it? Like, I think one of the main examples was the Pogtopia vs. Manberg war, yknow he wanted to end the government but they just reinstated it after they won = c!Techno upset. But this doesn't make sense to me because why did he think otherwise? The entire time c!Tommy had talked about taking back their nation and starting again, so the fact that c!Techno suddenly thought there would be a sudden change is, to put it bluntly, kinda fucking stupid. I don't want to say that he "plays the victim" or anything because that feels a bit harsh, but his character feels so far up his own ass that I can't enjoy him.

I have a major grip with c!Dream as well, but that's getting it's own fucking section.

F. L'Manberg This is a quick note before we get into the, forgive me for this, endgame, of this entire rant, since the next two sections are tied together. But god, L'Manberg makes me upset because it feels like they gave up on it.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that it is supposed to be c!Wilbur's "unfinished symphony", the thing that destroyed a once charismatic and widely loved man, his attempt at power that utterly ruined him. But the fact that it just got blown up in the end after everything and left to rot felt like such a waste of time. From the first war, to Pogtopia, to even c!Tommy's exile, it all felt fucking worthless in the end, and the story is actively closer to how it was when it started now more than ever. I wished it was actually allowed to exist and continue to be a peaceful place in what is a chaotic world, but no it was just snuffed out because why dedicate to this concept of finding others you can band together with and feel safe. fuck that noise apparently?

G. The Villains Now villain-wise, I'm only talking about c!Dream [during the first war], c!Schlatt, and c!Wilbur. And believe it or not, this is actually mostly positive.

Now I'm not gonna lie, c!Dream as a staring antagonist wasn't bad actually, he posed a genuine and threatening opposition to L'Manberg, even if we didn't know his real intentions or motivations as to why he was against it. He's lucky in this sense because he didn't have to be good, he had to be passable. If anything, he felt more like an anti-hero than a tyrant or traditional villain, and my god do I wish he kept this theme going forward.

Now quick disclaimer, I don't like JSchlatt as much as the next guy, he's an adult man who should know better than to joke about some sensitive topics and act the way that he does. But the one thing I'll ever give him is that damn, was he a good actor for his character.

Now here's the thing, c!Schlatt wasn't particularly deep at all. He had no real motivations behind his exile of c!Wilbur and c!Tommy other than getting competition out of the way, had no reason to act the way that he did and yknow? that's fine. The reason why he worked was from his performance alone, he was actually intimidating. When he came onto the stream and was doing his typical bad guy stuff, it was actually intense to see what he would do. Whenever he would almost catch c!Tommy back in Manberg, whenever he would begin to pressure c!Tubbo, it put you on the edge of your seat and it felt like everything would change at the drop of a pen. He's a villain to be a villain, and this works out because he's just charismatic and well put together enough to make it interesting, even without the backstory or motives.

c!Wilbur however, is much more tragic, and the best villain of the story. He essentially was the "mentor turned evil" trope and it felt terrible watching him descend into madness, unable to trust barely anyone except for c!Techno and c!Tommy. Hell, in the end I think he still cared about them both, despite losing everything. Sure, he blew up L'Manberg, but there was still a smidge of the old c!Wilbur in there made everything he did feel melancholic. His death at the hands of his father after achieving his final wish was chilling, and something I still think about.

Until yknow, Ghostbur came back way too soon to let people feel his loss as a character within that world. And then he got revived, pretty much-undoing everything that moment meant for his character lol.

And then there's the worst one:

H. Dream. I'm going to be completely honest, c!Dream is one of the main reasons why I dislike the current dsmp stuff so much. Outside of his actions as a person, the way Dream decided to write his character as this overpowered madman of the dsmp really just. destroyed any intrigue that he could've had. Perhaps this is from my growing dislike towards him, manifesting into a bias towards his character, but god I cannot fathom why people try to insist he's interesting when he has as much depth as a fucking puddle.

And here's the thing, I'm not even entirely against c!Dream being a villain, hell I think he would've been great as an anti-hero if anything. Make him sympathetic but not through c!George to get your precious "DNF" points or anything, but show him actually caring about the people within the dsmp, including c!Tommy and c!Tubbo. This would make his rival status with them just a bit more complicated, sure they're enemies, however, he doesn't want to hurt or kill them, and there's still a level of friendship there that keeps them bonded when things get super bad. This could've been super interesting to see, the first villain of the story receiving a sorta redemption arc then descending into madness as he started to fixate on being a god. This is all how I feel personally, but god do I feel like it would've been better than his current character, and hell would've worked with how he was during the Pogtopia arc, before the war that is. I'm not trying to tell Dream how to write his own character, but there are so many other ways he could've done the madman seeking to become god rather then. whatever the hell we got.

Because instead, we got this power-mad asshole who does things... because he can? And that's one of my major issues: he tries to surround his character in mystery to make him "intriguing" but it's kinda like c!Techno, it comes off as pretentious. Not only that, but you cannot keep waving around this mystery of a backstory without ever actually revealing it. I know the story isn't over, but c!Dream is effectively at his lowest point, now would be the time to reveal his backstory. But no just keep it in the dark and keep everyone guessing, that's totally fun and not at all tiring and annoying. (sarcasm, if anyone needs it)

And back to his performance, he doesn't sell this aloof, cynical and strategic warrior that has perfected the blade or some shit, he comes off as some angry guy yelling on reddit. which i don't need to tell you, isn't intimidating. It feels like he's trying to have c!Schlatt's intimidation combined with c!Wilbur's depth, but instead he's like a little brother who's trying to hard to mimic his older brother and is kinda embarrassing himself.

but other then that i dont feel too strongly abt the dsmp lol

but seriously, these are the main complaints I have abt the story tbh, I could probably talk about more but I wont because man. this is probably gonna get me in trouble if any of the hyper-dsmp fans actually read it.

My manz always texted Ponyboy when he was to lazy to speak.

Texted a lot of people cause he was that guy. But mainly Steve, Sandy (when they were still a thing.), Darry, and Pony.

His IG was filled with nice pics of him and girls just commenting about how handsome he was. He got annoyed of it at a point and turned off the comment section.

Probably had tiktok and made Pony get it.

Had a free subscription of Spotify and my boy loved his music.

Texting pony is like.: “Hey could you tell Darry that I got the eggs he needed earlier.” Pony never told him. Darry got home with a carton of eggs and started yelling that they wasted money on extra eggs. And Pony stood there after hours of finally looking at the text and would just back up.

It made him uncomfortable.

Whumpee laid curled up on their bed. The large duvet created almost a cloud of content around them, and they found themself in a really good mood.

A notification for friend request on an account they didn’t recognize popped up along the top of their phone.

Well that wasn’t too surprising. Whumpee had a couple popular accounts, and their username remained the same for most of their socials, so it wasn’t uncommon for them to get a follow or request from a stranger.

Clicking accept, then on the account, it revealed photos and videos of a pretty popular person on the app, who looked to be the same age as Whumpee.

It was almost ten minutes later when they got the request for a DM, same person who friended them.

‘Hi :)’, it read.

‘Hello :)’, Whumpee responded, making sure to add the smile at the end. ‘How are you?’

The read receipt popped up, and the indication that they were typing.

‘Good, just lying in bed. :) How about you?’

Whumpee grinned at the message. ‘Same mate. Just feels like one of those days, you know?’

‘Yeah, definitely.’

The conversation went on for a bit longer, the two of them just messaging back and forth about their day, or whatever seemed relevant at the moment.

‘I just think it’s a fun outfit, kind of suits you Whumpee.’

Whumpee was about to respond, but then they stopped. How the hell did this person know their name? They didn’t have it on any of their accounts.

‘Haha yeah, though i have a bit of a question- how did you get my name?’

‘?’

‘I don’t have it put in any of my bio’s or anything, I was just curious.’ They sat up in their bed, keeping the blankets pulled around their shoulders.

‘Ohhh- yeah sorry, I was actually recommended to check out your account by a follower of mine. They told me your name, so I just assumed it was common knowledge. Did you want me to not? I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable-‘

Whumpee furrowed their eyebrows. ‘No, you’re fine, I’m just trying to figure out how they got it now.’

‘Do you want me to send you the account? It’s a private btw.’

‘Please.’

‘Alright, one sec.’

Almost half a minute later, the other person sent the link to another account. Whumpee clicked on it, noticing that they had zero followers, and was only following four people.

Requesting to friend, they looked at the following section, a bit surprised to find themself on there.

It was them, the person the were DMing, and two others when, upon whumpee clicking, revealed to also be popular creators around their age. A constant.

The friend request was accepted, and what they saw nearly made Whumpee scream. It was pictures of them, along with the other three that were being followed.

Not just normal pictures however, these were photos through windows of them in the bathroom, in their rooms, houses, out in public, and it was clear, at the angle they were at, that they had no idea these photos were being taken.

Whumpee most certainly had no idea.

They wanted to block the account and call the police, but they realized they would need proof, and to let the other accounts know of the pictures of them.

Screenshots of the account were taken, of the pictures of them, and as much as Whumpee could find to prove enough.

Whumpee went back to the following section, following the other two and requesting to DM as they went to the account who talked to them first, sending all of the screenshots.

‘Holy shit- like, holy fucking shit, what the fuck?’

‘Yeah I know???? I’m trying to add the other two, hold on.’

It felt like hours, painstaking hours before the other two accepted the DMs. Whumpee added them into a group chat with the other person and sent in all the screenshots before anything else.

The person they’d been DMing, who Whumpee got to know as Whumpee B, had quickly filled in the other two on the situation.

Whumpee D responded first. ‘What the actual fuck? This has to be a sick prank or something’

Whumpee C: ‘I think I’m gonna be sick’

D: ‘I’m calling the police, I think you guys should too’

B: ‘Whumpee, you should block them.’

D: Yeah

‘Doing that now.’

They went to the account, when they saw the newest update from seconds ago. Their blood ran cold.

It was a picture of them in their current position, taken from a crack in the door that they didn’t realize was open.

They hadn’t gotten the chance to close out of the post before it swung open.

DMing  with a troublesome player pt 2  plus game zero

Okay so i had my session zero  at my  birthday party  (pretty much just a BBQ lunch before D&D cos  apparently  im 28 now so yay me  i guess )  And for over a month Ive been telling my players to make characters,  and what dose miss troublesome do nothing  no character at all not even a idea for a character... yay me  I’m thinking  and say “ well your just spectating then,  you had plenty of time to get ready” and  one of my other players can see the tantrum building in her face and the other player just says “i can just roll up a random character for you,”    as shes accepts that  and seems fine making the whole table wait over half a hour for her...  but while thats happening i start the game and let the ready players introduce themselves and RP a bit  and talk to npcs and get the game moving  so they are not just sitting there bored. all the other players  have been gathered around a table drinking  thanks to one of the players  being a loud drunk dwarf that wants to make friends  and go on adventures.    as i go to introduce her character  she “yells i dont want to go inside   i want to climb onto the roof  and just sit there”  the first fucking thing she dose    is that “lol Im so random shit”     to i say “ fine you dont meet the a party  you dont get any quest information  and the guards are going to see you and try to arrest  you for trespassing/ being a public nuisance”    and there go’s  another 10 minuets  of her arguing with the other players . ending with  a reluctantly and aggressive “fine  i’ll go inside but im not sitting with the group”      at this point  im just starring at  one of my other players who also GM’s    just like having a physic conversation with each other  as hes about as frustrated as i am. Time go’s on they get the  starter quest  and go into the sewers to find what is killing the giant rats   its a phase spider btw  there going through  get jumped by some rats and come across a giant rat-king but not before they split the party... well not really   3 went to kill the rat-king the rest waited  down the path a bit about 4 rounds of combat  with 2 experienced and one skipping his turn  cos  is PC  cant  keep line of sight  and cant see in the dark.... so 2 players and 1 enemy doing combat, they know what they are doing, combats quick they know there actions  and spells  but  4 rounds and about 3-4 minutes in real time later.  miss troublesome screams  at the table  breaking the flow of combat  yelling “im bored   i want to do something!   my character walks down the path! away from the party”      at this point the players remind her this his what happens when you split the party,    her response is” well my character gets bored easy” In my head im screaming  “fucking really!  the character with such a developed backstory  and personalty that you had someone else  fucking randomly generated a hour ago!   thats bullshit and you fucking know it,  you are using that as such a cop out its ridiculous“           I say none of this of coarse but remind her it has only  been 24 seconds in game,  your character  has that short attention span you would walk off  alone  in a place where you have see people get ambushed twice.  the other players  in character stop her  like what the fuck are you doing  but she still walks  30 feet way    ( i should have let her go her max  distance and  get her self killed )     any way they kill the rat king some cool rp stuff happens  and the party finds the phase spiders nest   she trys to get the webs of the ceiling and they fall on her basically putting her in a grapple state  oh damn just that caused drama with her. the spider  tries to stealth kill some of the party but  fails 3 times  (just unlucky rolls for it )   eventual it dose a good chunk of damage to the party and kills one out right a legit death in my first game.  ( there are healers in town that have revivify and the friendly drunken dwarf  fireman carries that high elf rogue  out of the sewer  as quick as he can   and the elf is saved  at the last second but that death is actually given the player some cool rp ideas so it all works out )  any way the spider is knocked down to 3 hp  and it phases out and runs. the remaining players  including miss troublesome  find 3 people webbed up in the spiders nest  2 young girls and a man all in black,  the cleric wakes him up as miss troublesome  is digging through his pockets  and finds all his stolen goods  and his daggers...  i let her know what she found and list all the stolen items and his weapons  shes says she “ takes them,  and i throw the daggers away”          hes says he cant walk  she she picks him up over her shoulder and tries to pickpocket his loot back   but notices the cleric watching him,  till he sees the party's rogue  and tells him in “thieves cant”  he’ll split the loot  he has hidden  if he gets him out of here  the rogue  agrees and tries to convince the other players  to let the thief go but they dont want to so,  the thief grabs a massive egg sack off the wall and slams it on to the  miss troublesome’s  head covering the her in baby spiders,  he grabs his loot as the party's rogue  chases him then  leads the party in the wrong direction  letting the thief escape.   out of game   she asks why he attacked  “you took his loot  you know hes a thief why would he let you just take him and his stuff”       then she carries on for another 5 minuets  yelling “ i didn't take his stuff!!  just his daggers”     the whole table  looked at her  at this point   one player says you have to be  specific and she fucken starts to cry “i did but no one listens to me “     again  shes 30   and she was the only one talking at the time  and not to mention the countless times she tried to start random convos  with other players about out of game stuff while they were trying to RP the rest was all rp stuff and went  smoothly.    this post is already long enough  but  that was my first game GMing Evey one liked it “apparently” even miss troublesome  even tho everyone was frustrated by her.   I might do a more of a campaign diary type post  if people are interested and try not to make it about miss troublesome some     May the GM gods  THE MATTHEWS  Mercer & Colville  pleas give me strength and guide me.

   i have quite a lot to say honestly. im also pretty sure you will never read this, which is fine by me. i wish i could pour out all my feelings to you like i used to, but all that is gone. I threw the relationship away, and i regret it more than anything. You truly loved me and i reciprocated those feelings back. but at some point we just, stopped talking. I was busy with graduation and you were busy with school as well. part of me was afraid to text you for some reason. i guess i thought i was annoying you somehow. It started on valentine’s day. so many useless things i remember. To be honest, i was a complete wreck over thanksgiving break. last year that was the time we really got to know each other. remembering that made me go into a complete breakdown. crying and  shaking…. yknow the usual. the weird thing is that i mourned our “loss” so late. Right after we broke up, i was lying in bed crying. Not sobbing. The next day i woke up. Then the following week, i went to school. No one knew. I acted normal as i always did. Shit, my parents didnt even know i was dating in the first place. I was busy. Graduation and finals had me by the neck. I never broke down because i literally couldnt. Too many things were at stake. I had too many responsibilities that i could not just ignore. So, i got through it. Then, during the summer, i went to dc. it was fun i must admit. It was a good distraction from what was in the back of my mind. Then they passed by, June….July…August….September. September. September 30th. Our birthday. How great, my ex has the same birthday, i couldnt forget even if i wanted to. Feelings began to bubble, only a little. But i was able to hold them down, new have interests kept me occupied. October was fine. It was a fun month and honestly i feel absolutely wonderful around my friends. We’ve really connected this year. Then, the thanksgiving break comes up. I absolutely lost it for whatever reason. I remember last year’s break very clearly. That’s probably why. I’m okay now. But of course im writing this letter for a reason. I miss you immensely. I wish we could have met at least once. I was never able to hold you in my arms or kiss you or do any of the things i was dying to do because i loved with every part of my being. I’ve had a few faint dreams of you, one of them being yesterday. I dont know if they mean anything but i love you still. We confessed to each other on christmas, i will cry this christmas night to myself, where nobody will see. i wonder if you feel the same? i presume my emotional self is the only one still sad, still upset, still broken, still wet with tears down my face. im sure you’ve moved on. do you play d&d or any other trpg? if so, what's your favorite class or race to play?

I am doing so right now, in fact—or kind of. I’m not playing: I’m DMing. It’s the first time I’ve ever DMd, and also the first time I’ve ever enjoyed tabletop RPGs. In the old days, I played Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (yes, it had its own tabletop RPG), and I played the superhero one for a little while. My friends got big into Rift and then AD&D, but I never did. I always got bored. I liked to be able to see things, and I felt silly pretending to be someone I’m not, and to act out doing things that I just wanted to happen (like asking a shopkeeper if they have leather armor. Just gimme the armor, dammit!)

Being a DM, though, it’s kind of like it has a purpose. I’m being the characters for the benefit of the players. They can interact how they want to, but I’m the one who’s making sure everything runs, so I have a responsibility to do it right, which licenses it—and can also do it how I like. A lot of times the DMs I’ve seen are over serious, and are all hyped up to be like, “I am LORD neFARIOUS, and YOU must do MY bidding!”, and I’m just like…nah. It’s either super serious like that, or poop jokes (or worse), with nothing in between. Plus, the language work is just…abominable. The nice thing about being a DM is it’s giving me an excuse to keep building the vocabularies of languages that are off-season, which I usually don’t have time to do. (I’m using Shivaisith from Thor: The Dark World, Bodzvokhan and Övüsi from Bright, and also an old language of mine as languages in this one.)

The one time I did play D&D for a stretch I nearly broke the game. I made a Dragonborn bard who had an 18 in charisma at level 1 (I improved it to a natural 20 by level 3). Whenever something happened I didn’t like, I just persuaded the characters around me to fix things for me. It was amazing. I enjoyed it mightily. Bards can also find an audience and play a show anywhere. That’s how you make money! Unfortunately that group fell apart. It’s fine, though. I like DMing better, even though it’s a ton of work, and, being a first timer, I’m making tons of mistakes.

Oh, you know what really screwed me up? World of Warcraft has a monetary system inspired by D&D it works like this:

100 copper = 1 silver

100 silver = 1 gold

Nice and simple! I get to D&D, and I see copper, silver, and gold, plus a couple others (electrum and platinum), and I assumed it worked the same way. It does not! It works like this:

10 copper = 1 silver

5 silver = 1 electrum

2 electrum = 1 gold

Say whaaaaaaa…?! Who dreamt that up?! I totally flubbed up prices initially, because I was basically using WoW’s system. So if I wanted something to cost a little bit more than a gold, I’d say it was 1 gold, 20 silver. That’s basically like saying, “That will be 1 gold and 2 gold, please!” It’s already hard to keep track of money in that game (btw if anyone as advice on that, it would be greatly appreciated! Some sort of app, maybe?), so this just threw everything into confusion. All my fault.

The only big issue with DMing is that it’s hard to tell if the players are actually enjoying it or not—or even if they are, if they’re enjoying some parts more than others. It seems to be going well, but you never know…

Anyway, if I were to play again, no question, I’m getting my Dragonborn bard back. I’d be nothing else. He’s perfect. I love him and his easygoing style. He doesn’t issue commands: He makes suggestions—and they’re all terribly convincing! Yeah, if a DM wants to combat his awesomeness, he better send a bunch of enemies he can’t talk to at all and prevent me from using persuasion on my own party members (because, man, it is awesome persuading people to jump into battle for you, give you their money, carry you about on their shoulders…).

This day felt surreal so far. Filming was great, we only needed a few takes and then we called it a wrap for the day about one hour early. That means Tom and I would be going out for dinner soon. Now I’m wondering if it can be considered a date. Probably not… I change my clothes to a casual outfit, so it wouldn’t be too much and I can’t help but imagine what Tom will be wearing. It doesn’t take long until I’m ready but before going to his apartment I remember something. Shit. We forgot to agree on a time. I can’t just show up there, can I? The first thing that crosses my mind is to phone Zendaya, she’ll know what to do. “Hi Zendaya, it’s (Y/N).” “Hey (Y/N)! How was lunch? I didn’t get the chance to talk to you afterwards.” “It was actually great. Soo… Thanks for your help today, I appreciate it. I’m having a problem though. We agreed on going to dinner together and […]” “Wait what? You’re on a date? After like what, talking to him one hour? You go girl!” “Uhm it’s not that easy. I’m not even sure if it’s a date or not. But the main problem here is that we haven’t agreed on a time and place to meet. I don’t want to call him though or just appear at his appartment. What should I do?” “You just go to him. He’s a cool dude, he will probably feel bad himself because je didn’t think of it. Go to his house, he’ll understand. Gotta go now. Good luck, (Y/N)!” With those words she hangs up. Okay, now I have to decide what I should do and since Zendaya’s plan worked out so far, I’ll just go on and stick to it. After a few minutes of just sitting there without having the power or courage to stand up and go to Tom I finally get myself up. Two apartments above mine is Tom’s, so I go there, step a bit closer and ring. Nothing. Maybe he went to some fancy restaurant already without me, but which one would it be then? I ring again. “Hello?” I hear Tom’s voice coming out of the intercom. Now it’s time to silently turn back and run back, but no, I can’t give up now. “Ah… Hi? It’s (Y/N). I’m here because we haven’t agreed on a time and place to meet, so I thought I’d just come to you and figure it out.” “Blimey! I totally forgot about that, sorry. I have a plan though. Would you like to come in?” “Sure.” A second later I hear a beep that indicates the door opening for me. I get in and look around the flat in which Tom resides. He awaits me at the entry of his apartment. I wait for a moment, unsure what to do now, but Tom just says “Hi.” and hugs me, so I decide to do the same. “Come in. It’s not all tidied up, but make yourself at home. Do you want something to drink?” “Thanks. Yes, please. Choose whatever you like, I’m not that picky.” “Good.” I don’t want to look around too obviously, but I can’t hold myself back looking at the photos Tom has on his walls and that he also has a little corner filled with fan art. Then Tom breaks the silence again “I thought maybe we could just eat here, where it’s calm and cosy, minus all the paparazzi. I already started cooking dinner with a little help from Harrison. But if you prefer going to a restaurant I could just leave that. What do you think?” “I’m fine with eating here. I can help you though. What are we cooking?” “It’s (Y/F/D [your fav dish]). Is that okay for you?” “Are you kidding? I love (Y/F/D). It’s my favourite dish!” “Really? Mine too!” Then we cook together while talking a little about our friends and family. “So where is Harrison now? I haven’t seen him on set thus far” “Well, he arrived in Atlanta yesterday and he’s slept most of today because of the jet lag, so he will probably come to the set tomorrow. Right now he’s out, meeting Jacob and Zendaya. What about your friends and family? Is anyone planning to visit us?” “Unfortunately not. The flight is way too expensive and they all have to work at this time of the year. But I’ll make a bunch of photos and videos for them to look at when I get back home.” Then we talk about home and what we miss most about it.

The talk gets deeper and deeper and by the time we start eating (Y/F/D) I realise that I’ve moved to that stage where I don’t give a shit about my look anymore, because I just feel comfortable around Tom no matter what. “You know, (Y/N), I’m fascinated. I’m genuinely fascinated. You’re such an easy going person. At first I was a bit scared of you, because you were so perfect and quiet. Now that you are telling me about those imperfections which are, by the way, not even dramatic and I think it makes you look even sexier but… uhm.” He almost chokes. I doubt he wanted to say that out loud. My body immediately reacts. I’m blushing. He’s so cute! “I-i mean e-even with those imperfections you’re still great and I just love getting to know you better. We have to do something like this more often!” “Really? I’d love to.”
