seungmin taking off his mask brainrot. allusion to sex but no smut. still mdni.
honestly i struggled with tagging this, because it's not smut but also not fluff either hshshs enemies to fwb??? anyways i hope this reaches its target audience,, enjoy <33 (lowercase intended)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
seungmin is an asshole.
you don't like him. he's always around, nagging you, throwing unnecessary comments your way about every little thing you do or say. if it were solely up to you, you wouldn't talk to him ever again. but he's jeongin's best friend, who also happens to be your best friend, so seeing him is inevitable.
he's there sipping on his iced americano, wispy bangs falling in front of his brown eyes, fixated on you. he's there sitting across of you in the campus garden, hitting your leg repeatedly with his foot. he's there at jeongin's dorm, who also happens to be his roommate, strolling around shirtless with no care in the world.
he's infuriating, everything about him makes you mad. from the way he smiles proudly when he sees that he's getting on your nerves, to the way he leans his face onto yours, faking interest in whatever you are saying.
seungmin is an asshole, and to your surprise, he's here to pick you up.
you know it's him, from the red converse he is wearing, and his familiar black leather jacket. you can also tell from the hands gripping the handles of the motorcycle. they aren't clad with rings, so it can't be jeongin. the friend who was actually supposed to pick you up.
you half debate staying home, cursing jeongin in your brain for forcing you to spend more time with seungmin. but you really wanted to go to that party chan is hosting. you needed the free alcohol, badly.
so you huff, as seungmin takes his sweet time parking, mentally preparing to curse him too. but the words die in your throat as soon as he removes his helmet.
he has caramel colored hair now.
he slides off the motorcycle, running an easy hand through his hair. it looks soft, and you wonder what it smells like. citrus, maybe, or pinewood. he then leans onto his engine, smirking at you slightly. you roll your eyes, taking one step forward towards him.
"i think you're obsessed with me."
"yeah? why is that?" he smiles, tilting his head to the side, his arms now crossed in front of his chest.
"you just had to pick me up right. couldn't stand being away from me that badly?"
"correct." he doesn't deny and you huff, grabbing the second helmet and putting it on.
"let's make this as short as possible."
"my pleasure," he bows slightly and you bite your lip, trying to suppress the tiniest smile from coming out. you really liked his hair, it made his honeyed eyes stand out more.
he gets on first, and you follow suit. you were used to riding with jeongin but this is your first time doing it with seungmin. you hesitate for a couple of seconds, before wrapping your arms loosely around his waist.
"hold tight," he tells you, adding a soft "please" after a few silent beats. you oblige, and then he takes off with no further warning.
the drive is short, and you can't seem to focus on anything but the warmth emanating from seungmin's body. you are hyper aware of your thighs pressing against his, and his broad back snug against your chest. it feels intimate, for some odd reason, and you almost close your eyes to fully savor it. almost.
when you arrive, you're quick to hop off, handing your helmet to seungmin. he takes it from you silently, before removing his own too.
strands of his hair stay upwards and you debate internally for a second, before reaching to smooth them down.
you were right, his hair is incredibly soft to the touch.
"you look pretty," he says. and he sounds sincere- different from how he usually speaks to you.
"thank you," you reply quietly, " i like your new hair."
"really? I'm not sure if it suits me," he admits, running a hand through it self-consciously. it felt weird, to see him anything but confident and boastful.
"it does. what shampoo do you use?"
"i don't know. something citrusy, i think."
"figured."
....
your naked chest is pressed to seungmin's, limbs so tangled you can no longer tell where your body ends and his begins.
you didn't exactly plan on ending up here tonight, you weren't even sure how this happened. you just couldn't take your eyes off seungmin's hair, and then his eyes landed on your lips and suddenly he was leading you to the nearest bedroom.
but you don't mind, not when seungmin looks this way. the light is dim and dark shadows reflect on his face. there is a sheen layer of perspiration on his upperbrow, and you imagine you must look the same. sweaty and slightly dazed, a pink hue adorning your cheeks.
seungmin traces your lips with his thumb, going over your cupid bow ever so slowly. it makes shivers run down your spine, and you huddle closer to him. as close as you physically could anyways, since you were practically glued to him.
"had i known this would happen i would've died my hair sooner," he smirks cheekily and that brings you to his hair again. you run your hand through its soft locks gently. a stark contrast to how hard you were tugging them moments ago.
"mm, it's all because of this caramel color," you smile back, its citrusy scent wafting to your nose. "i really like your shampoo."
"are you turned on by scents?" he jokes and you swat his arm, leaning a bit away from him.
"it just smells nice. sue me."
"it's okay, you smell nice too," he chuckles, burying his nose in the crook of your neck. you appreciate it. it makes you feel less weird about how affected you are by him.
"i... i told jeongin that i wanted to pick you up," he mumbles onto your skin and you feel yourself tense slightly. "why?"
"wanted to see you first," he says quietly, pressing a soft kiss to your collarbone. it makes you dizzy. you don't find him infuriating any more.
"let's talk about this later," you finally reply, pulling him away from you.
"mm. what do you want to do now?" he smiles, grazing your naked arm with the back of his hand.
you straddle his lap, swiping his bangs away from his forehead. that damned hair of his.
"you."

My thoughts on Colleen Hoover:
okay hear me out: colleen hoover is for the people who skipped their fan fiction phase.
Hi just a warning this contains spoilers for colleen hoover books and English isn't my first language so I apologise for any mistakes. These are just me sharing my thoughts feel free to disagree just please don't be mean about it.
So I read a few of her books because I love torturing myself and just wanted to feel something (also my cousin was obsessed with her) and honestly I don't regret it because now I have valid reason shit on it.
Just fyi I'm a teenage girl in high school so I'm definitely in her target audience, and here's what I've gathered:
None of her main characters really have a personality. they feel more like shells that the reader can self insert themselves into. The books aren't really about two people getting to know each other and falling in love it feels more as a bunch of tropes and generic scenarios thrown together. I think this is one of the reason booktok girlies act with Colleen Hoover the way I did when I found out fanfics exists.
It also just reads like fanfiction? like because there's not much to dwell on and they're so easy to digest you can finish them in just a few hours. plus the main characters just feels like y/n: a shell to self insert yourself into, dead/abusive father, just normal girl who finds herself in these situations etc.
Here's the thing about fan fiction though: the reason why it's so fun to read is because you already know the people/characters in it so you can get right into the scenarios and imagines because they don't really need any background or development.
But the difference is when you write these books you have to develop these characters and introduce them to the readers otherwise I'm just like "I don't even know these people so why the fuck would I care?"
Comparing her to fanfic is honestly an insult to fanfic writers because at least they have the decency to tag their posts properly (calling the abuse, abuse dark themes, dark themes etc) plus they're just so much better.
Colleen Hoover fans will say that she brings up difficult topics in her books in order to defend her but here's the thing: writing about difficult topics doesn't exactly exempt you from criticism + she doesn't even write about them?? they just feel like lazy add ons to spice up the story and add some drama. if you're gonna write about difficult topics you need to discuss and write them properly not just use them to further the plot.
I don't like any of the love interests either. 99% of them are just abusive, piece of shit bland boiled chicken ass people with the unsexiest names I've ever heard of.
Also a lot of these have very much women hating women undertones? I feel like it's the author's misogyny being reflected in her books (extra heart breaking coming from a woman herself). It's very much "you're not like the other girls you're different" kinda themes.
I thought maybe people just enjoyed it because of the smut but the smut is SO BAD oh my god I wanted to kms.
My thoughts are a little all over the place right now (they always are) but maybe i'll update if I remember any more points
thank you so much for reading mwah <33

The ask accusing actually mature adults of being the target audience for this show.
I was one of the older fans at the start of Season 1 being 26. I wouldn't say I was an outlier. I think the majority of the fandom at that point sat between the ages of 17-27 with a minority drifting older. Though most older people I knew were already critical of the show even as they still enjoyed it. Basically everyone in my age group (29-33) has fallen out of love with the series. Those that are still hyper fixated tend to be those who live with their parents or are otherwise dependents. They are 30 year old children if they still stan this shit
Which, to be clear, there's no inherent shame in living with your parents or being dependent. But it's true that whenever Viv drops merch, an unsettling proportion of the comments always allude to getting money from parents.

fuck it every dimension 20 season ranked
1. a starstruck odyssey
... we all saw this coming. i don't even have anything to say that i haven't already sleep deprivedly rambled about to my friends. glittery space bitches go brrrrrr
2. the ravening war
AUOERGHHHHH the drama the violence the edge the politics the tragedy THE SHIPS!!!! truly just my favorite people (and matthew mercer i guess) playing my favorite character tropes. it's like they scanned my brain and generated a season based solely on what i would be the most autistic about.
3. misfits and magic
yippeeeee best friends and they like each other and are friends yayyyy
4. the seven
women <333 (but fr tho i just like watching teenage girls be messy and multifaceted)
5. a court of fey and flowers
look i just really like fae shit. fairy rainbow magic boys RISE UP 💪💪💪💪
6. a crown of candy
the little candy people are sad??? what the hell.... (no but this season started off SO STRONG!! would easily be my #1, but i feel like the latter half of the season dragged on and also felt rushed? idk still one of the top tier seasons)
7. fantasy high
i mean what can i say. a solid classic, bad kids live in my head RENT free, fig is my irl girlfriend, uhhhhh kissing them all forever.
8. mice and murder
love a good murder mystery <33. lars vandenchomp my BELOVED!!!
9. fantasy high sophomore year
sophomore year!!!! i feel like this season had some of the highest highs, but also a lot of the lowest lows. which is why it's in the middle of the list lol. the live format made it hard to follow a lot of the time, however, consider, i'm the crab king.
10. the unsleeping city: season 2
CODYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! between him, iga, and the spooky capitalism moment, i really liked this season. i just,,, haven't really thought about it much. did not stay in my head.
11. neverafter
love the characters, love the vibe, less spooky than i had hoped? but still, as always, a slay
12. the unsleeping city
you may be saying "why is s1 lower than s2" CODY! it's literally just him i just really like cody.
14. coffin run
VAMPIRES!!! AND IZZY AT THE TABLE!!! v good season, a little bit loud for me? but otherwise good job guys 11111/10
13. mentopolis
not much to say abt this season tbh
15. escape from the bloodkeep
i have never read [insert fantasy book here] so i didn't really get a lot of the inside jokes? idk i think i was not the target audience.
16. pirates of levithan
look the zoom format just absolutely kills this season :( i love literally everything else about it but all of the players are so BIG in a way that the format struggles to capture. honestly it was a hard watch for me but i'd love to see it revisited in the dome.
17. shriek week
look i'm all for a vibes only no plot session but a vibes only no plot season? i truly could not tell you a single thing that happened in this show. also not enough hot monsters and too many hot people who are vaguely monster adjacent. absolutely HILARIOUS tho, watch it for sure but just turn your brain off. ally fermentation jokes my beloved.
18. dungeons and drag queens
i'm homophobic ❤ (this is a joke i'm gay i just didn't find it very compelling bdjfk. i don't think i was the target audience)
19. tiny heist
i'm sorry the mcelroy brothers just don't do it for me. certainly one of the dimension 20 seasons 👍

AHHHH PEDRO PASCAL ASKS LETS GO!!!
2,3 and 8 ☺️💕✨
Sending you all my love dearest Erin! 💌
EEEEE thank you honey!!!! and all the love back to you, erika <33
2. What character first brought you into the Pedro fandom?
officially, joel. but the first character of his i ever saw was jack. i consider jack to be my first love when it comes to pedro lol
i always liked him from a distance after that; i saw him in ww84 and thought he was the best part of the movie (still think so) so i knew he was an amazing actor. i never saw mando when it came out because i'm not a star wars girlie (gn) but my mom had! and she kept telling me to watch it because "he's a space cowboy bounty hunter, erin, he's your type" (boy, was she right) but i just never got around to it.
then he was cast as joel and i went "HMMM....... he's a great actor, he could probably pull it off" but i was cautiously optimistic because tlou has been my favorite video game for years and video game adaptations are notoriously awful. then he was amazing and after episode 3 i was hooked lmao
3. Max Lord or Max Phillips? Marcus Pike or Marcus Moreno?
ok i know i just posted a max phillips gifset and i'm a slut for vampires in any universe, but i'm gonna pick max lord. i will not hear any slander over his cheesy 80s suits or any shallow opinions on his appearance. maxwell lord is attractive because pedro is playing him and you cannot tell me otherwise. he's a deeply tragic character and pedro SLAYED the acting ok.
and i choose marcus pike. he's such a sweet character and the most boyfriend-coded man he's ever played. marcus moreno is a total sweetie and i love him, but i am not the target audience for that movie so it's hard to watch 😭
8. Be flirted with by Agent Whiskey or Javier Peña?
ERIKA, YOU'RE EVIL FOR THIS.
both would have me on the god damn floor jfc. i legitimate can't pick between the two of them.
on the one hand you've got the charisma and swagger of jack who would give me the sweetest of petnames that would turn me into a puddle.
and on the other, you've got javi who would whisper the filthiest shit in my ear that would have me blushing so god damn hard and giggling like a school girl.
i can't pick. can i have both? (at the same time?)(can i have them kiss each other?)

Season 2 Ramble#6 - Just Jump In! ver.2
This month’s episode is about Shueisha publishing company's JUMP magazine line. you can use the link above or check the link in my bio to listen on other platforms 🍻
first some bare bones Jump basics:
What is JUMP? - JUMP is a magazine line with hella content for hella demographics and for the record they're not all comics, shueisha is actually a pretty diverse publishing company
Today though, we'll only be looking at two of their products. the Weekly Shonen Jump(WSJ) magazine, in print since 1968 with a main target audience of young boys, shonen literally being japanese for young boy, as well as their SHONEN JUMP+ app, which first launched in 2014 and has a main target audience of older adolescent lads.. The original + app is in Japanese as far as I understand but they released a follow up in 2019 simply called MANGA+.. also even though they have "main" target audiences they both have works that try to appeal to wider demographics + things sometimes move between lines or even appear on both at the same time.
This month I purposefully read manga from different time periods which gave rise to one mini section and three main sections which i’ll describe as I get to them
NOW JUMPING RIGHT IN!
New Manga Read This Month
mini section
Was this axed? Why was this axed?:
top 1
Magu chan: god of destruction(Kei Kamiki, 2020, 78 chapters)
this story follows the main heroine ruru after she finds and accidently unseals the now weakened god of destruction mag MENUek. not the best art or really the deepest characters but it's a gag manga. actually didn't think I'd enjoy this at all but it's pretty funny, got a lot of genuine hearty laughs pretty much every chapter... (pretty decent run at 78 chapters but after I finished I couldn't believe it got axed, definitely would've liked more but ironically it probably got axed because of folks like me...)
Tumblr media
honourable mentions:
hell warden higuma, ginka & gluna, neolation
Ok so "main" sections now, starting with
Way Way Back (1960s - 1980s):
top 1
Mazinger Z (Gou Nagai,1972, 33 chapters)[Devilman Crybaby]
The story here is our mc, KOUji KAbuto, has a genius grandad who built the most powerful robot ever, Mazinger Z, but he dies in a sudden devastating earthquake before he can teach him how to use it. The only thing he's able to tell him before he passes is that with the robot comes power and with that power comes a choice, to be a god that saves humanity or a devil that destroys the earth.
Right off the bat the art wasn’t anything great or even particularly good but with really old stuff, especially things aimed at children, I think simpler art styles are to be expected. I did really like the robot designs tho, nothing too slick or fancy but they had an old quaint vibe like awww look at what grandpa drew…
Tumblr media
The characters weren’t much either, as I said stupid simple story, giant robots doing cool giant robot stuff, so most of what would be the story of most characters was already in their designs like you see the main character and know they're the main character because he has that cool spiky cyborg 009 hairstyle etc.
not much more to say, kinda funny, surprisingly bloody given my perception of the time period and what I thought their perception of media was, especially media intended for kids.. but yh,, the whole manga can be summed up with giant robots have always been pretty cool… grain of salt though for those who plan to check it out, yes I thought it an enjoyable read but it was really only my top 1 because I could pretty much only find two things to read from this time period as the older manga are almost impossible to find on the internet.
honourable mention:
Dr.Slump (Akira Toriyama , 1980, 236 chapters)
Wasn't That Just The Other Day? (1990s - 2010s):
top 1
Bakuman(Oh! Great, 2008, 176 chapters)
Actually not my first time trying this, started back in hs but stopped for reasons I can't recall, I only remember thinking it was excellent which makes it all the more confusing but in any case I started over from the jump and I'm really glad I did.
This is a manga about making manga. I'm telling you man these Japanese dudes will make a manga about anything. trust.. Anyways the story here follows two main characters Mashiro and Takagi, and starts with them about to enter highschool. Takagi is the smartest in school since day one, expected to excel in life, and Mashiro has nothing. no goals or ambitions. he's just trying to come to terms with the mundane normalcy of life and society's expectations of what that should looks like. one day Mashiro leaves a book at school and Takagi, who unbeknownst to anyone is an aspiring writer, finds it full of amazing art and begs him to team up and make manga… Will they make it? and what exactly does it take to make it anyways? what even is "it"? (find out next time on read the manga and see!!)
Tumblr media
Two things initially pulled me all those years ago, one, was a morbid curiosity, like I just couldn't fathom a manga about making manga being good in an entertaining way. like yh it's probably mad educational and it was, but as much as you can learn from any media the main reason I'm reading manga is to be entertained. two, oh! great did death note and again I just couldn't fathom the jump from mystery thriller about police vs death gods to this but man did they pull it off in style
First thing first the art was phenomenal as those familiar with oh! great works would expect. and I have to be clear, when I say oh! great does great art I mean Takeshi Obata does great art. oh! great is a duo between him and Tsugumi Ooba who did an equally good job on the story. like he basically showed us how the proverbial sausage is made without making us disinterested in the sausage. It actually instilled such a deeper appreciation for the process that I feel like all manga I read after this will be that much more enriching. especially shonen as the different creators in story debate and create what they think the genre should look like.
Tumblr media
Great cast of characters, funny, serious, rivals, people you hated, people you loved, great sub plots that had them all interacting in a nice dynamic way, like it didn't feel like the two mcs were the cause and effect of everything. Great pacing as well as we get to see their journey from just trying something in highschool to getting their foot in the door in later years and so on. didn't feel rushed or dragged, it was nice to see a lot of the little ups and downs of life instead of just a cycle between highlights and rock bottoms.
I have to give fair warning and say it's pretty text heavy. even for something that's not kick and punch cause most of the time they're plotting out some manga or something but Obata really does a great job here making good use of panels and even speech bubble placement so it never really feels crowded unless it's meant to illustrate something like an argument or so. it also helped that despite his usual pretty realistic art style, he allowed characters to be toony when needed to lighten the mood or heighten some expression in just the right way
Tumblr media
Honestly it's still so crazy that they pulled it off and pulled it off so well. I think ultimately it was the humanity of it that really tied everything together,, like yh they're manga artist but they're human first, and it's their human experiences that in the end feed into the art.
Talked a lot on this one.. that's why it was top 1 ig.. as usual I don't think I can speak enough to why exactly it's so great but yh… definitely highly recommend even if only out of morbid curiosity like you're thinking,, no way a manga about making manga is good. it is.
honourable mentions:
level e (Yoshihiro Togashi, 1995, 16 chapters),
Cowa!(Akira Toriyama, 1997, 14 chapters)
Hoshin Engi (...lol not that honourable ig)
...also just want to squeeze in that I actually tried bobobobo and wow… my brain may never recover…
What's Up Today? (2010s - present)
top 1
Astra Lost in Space (Kenta Shinohara on story & art, 2016, 53 chapters)
9 kids are brought to a nearby planet for a routine unsupervised camping trip as part of their highschool graduation. The future is wild. As plot convenience would have it, something goes wrong and they end up stranded in space. A rough enough situation on its own, but to make matters worse, the group finds signs that what happened was no accident and that the perpetrator is still among them..
Tumblr media
Honestly a simple setup and premise, literally Lost but in space… not that I've actually watched lost but yh. anyways for as simple as the plot is the entire story wrapped up in 53 chapters anyways and they honestly squeezed every drop out of it that they could. What really stood out to me was how balanced it all felt.
As in the premise of being intentionally stranded is by no means unique but I feel like a lot of the media I've consumed around that tend to lean into one aspect more than others, like it becomes mostly about the mystery trying to find "whodunnit", or the focus becomes the sense of adventure, exploring the unknown and all that oor,, how it goes more commonly, in my experience at least, is a portrayal of the harshness of survival in the physical or mental sense.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that btw, the premise of being lost is used in many genres and it's up to the author to decide how much they want to lean into any genre. for example drifting net cafe, suicide island and dragon head are some lost horror type beats I've read, enjoyed and would definitely recommend.
In any case as I was saying about Astra lost in space, cause that's what I should be talking about here… is I loved how balanced it all was. Yes they're stranded and have to survive but it's not so overbearing that we can't take in the adventure of the unknown and yes we're seeing all these cool sights and different hypothetical evolutionary paths in space but also let's all be aware that one of us is probably plotting a murder yk? what tied this all up were the characters themselves like they felt really natural, yh a lot was going on but they're still just kids and they were sent out for a camping trip in the first place so come hell or high water they were gonna have some amount of fun or die trying. not that everyone was always on the same page and they didn't have disagreements and drama and so on but their individual quirks and character traits converged and diverged masterfully for a beautiful dynamic between the cast amongst themselves, and between the cast and their environment.
Tumblr media
great cast and direction as I said, pretty standard art, nothing too crazy but it did what it needed to do, I also liked the little 4 panel bonus comics they did every now and then as well, all in all a pretty great read with some pretty neat twists I won't even allude to for fear of spoilers, especially for how short it was but yh, astra lost in space top 1 new read this month…
honourable mentions:
Akane Banashi(Yuuki SUEnaga doing the story & Takamasa Moue on art, 2022, ongoing 71 chapters)
'Tis time for "torture" princess ( Robinson haruhara on story and hirakei on art, 2019, ongoing 196 chapters)
Sakamoto Days(Yuuto Suzuki , 2020, ongoing 128 chapters),
ok now we're heading into
Manga Read Before This Month
(here I'll give less detail cause I would have mentioned a few of these repeatedly before + I want more of the shine on newer stuff tbh)
mini section
Was this axed? Why was this axed?:
top 1
Psyren(Toshiaki lwashiro, 2007, 151 chapters)
people are going missing and a secret society called psyren seems to be responsible. won't go farther than that but will say it's held up as one of the best shonen works I've ever read since the first time I read it in like 9 or 10th grade. still in disbelief that it was canceled cause you can barely tell when you read it. it's only after I finished it and was looking into some things I realised.
Tumblr media
honourable mentions:
ayashimon, phantom seer, black torch
main sections
way way back (1960s - 80s):
top 1
Dragon Ball(Akira Toriyama, 520 chapters,1984)
don't think I need to say much here but I mention the sandwich of technique in the episode.
honourable mentions:
JJBA part1-3, Saint Seiya, city hunter
wasn't that just the other day (1990s - 2010s)
top 1
Rookies(Morita Masanori, 1998, 233 chapters)
delinquent baseball, real heartwarming story, great art cast and pacing, masanori really takes the cake when it comes to the delinquent aesthetic but yh… was my #2 in s1 ramble 12 & #3 in s1 ramble 1
Tumblr media
honourable mentions:
eyeshield 21, slam dunk, Yu yu hakusho
what's up today? (2010s - present)
chainsaw man (tatsuki fujimoto, 2018, 137 ongoing)
look at the title lol
Tumblr media
honourable mentions
fire punch, Tokyo ghoul series, My hero academia
other folks to check out on twitter:

https://twitter.com/manga_crash?t=FzKQrpvb_rFwxHIe13Sqbw&s=09

what would your ideal s5 byler love confession/first kiss look like?
Ok damn, that’s a really good question!!
I wish I could download my thoughts on this onto a flash drive and give it to you so you can watch it on your computer because I do have a vision in mind but I really just can’t explain it!! It sucks and it’s also the reason why I’m so bad at writing like fanfic etc. because I just cannot express myself and my visions satisfactorily through text!!!! [analysis is an exception because my mind literally only draws the line at creative writing lmao].
Basically:
I’m so not on board for a “Will gets Vecna’d and Mike gives a grand love confession”-situation
-> It’s not that I would be super mad if it does happen like this but it just doesn’t sit right with me personally.
I’m more for a “Mike and Will get separated and later have a heartfelt, romantic reunion with a bone crushing hug and kiss”-situation
-> it genuinely makes my heart go: 💓📈💓📈💓📈💓
-> i think a confession upon reunion would just capture how much they love each other really well. Showing how worried and scared they were for each other and how incredibly relieved and happy they are to be together again. So unbelievably happy to somehow have gotten another chance to tell each other how much they love one another and they’ll do it right then and there because what if something bad happens again and they missed the chance to ever confess their feelings? It would also work as great contrast to melvin.
-> i really can’t put into words what the lead up to the reunion is like in my vision but all you need to know is that Vecna has already targeted and fully outed Mike to himself and El so the audience already knows that Mike’s gay and has seen that he’s been in love with Will this whole time so when the boys reunite Mike doesn’t explain everything right away. They just hug as if they thought they’d never see each other again [that’s probably also literally the case], crying tears of relief, Mike initiates the first kiss and tells Will “I love you. I always have”. Will tells him “I love you too”, Mike says “I know” and then they kiss again, more passionately this time :))
It’s so cheesy I can’t hahaha if this actually ends up happening I know the cheesiness is gonna be The best thing ever but writing it down myself feels soo awkward hahahaha
Thank you so much for the ask <33

Every Record I Own - Day 764: Liz Phair Girly Sound to Guyville
I was 15-years-old when Exile in Guyville came out. At that age, I was in a phase where I was fixated on loud, angry punk music and didn’t have much of an appreciation for contemporary singer-songwriters. Furthermore, my knowledge of indie rock was limited to the late ‘80s SST roster. So while I was aware of Liz Phair and her debut album, it didn’t seem pertinent to my interests. And somehow, I managed to go nearly 27 years without ever hearing a note of it.
And then in the spring of 2020, a younger friend of mine posted something about it online and I found myself thinking “shit, if the younger generation is latching onto it, then I gotta get caught up.” So I pulled up Exile in Guyville on my phone while I was puttering around in my backyard and sure enough... I fell for its charms almost instantly. I think I’d always assumed it was more of a conventional pop record... a solo artist backed by hired gun studio musicians. The cover looked like a cross between a fashion ad and Madonna’s “Justify My Love” video. I knew it was a very “sexual” record, which only reinforced my assumption that it was targeted towards a mainstream audience.
But what I heard in 2020 was a scrappy young musician singing these unadulterated, unflinching, and resilient songs about being a woman in a male-dominated scene. Yes, it was an unapologetically sexual album. And yes, Phair had an eye for visual art, understood the allure of fashion photography, and shaped the aesthetics of her debut album to tap into that enticement. But this wasn’t Madonna. As one critic noted, Liz Phair had the appeal of a friend’s cool older sister---the one that smoked cigarettes, dated older guys, went to shows with a fake ID, played guitar, and let you rifle through her record collection.
The lore surrounding the album is too much to tackle here, but certainly a part of its appeal---the modeling of the track listing off of Exile on Main Street, the signing to Matador off the strength of her bedroom four-track Girly-Sounds tapes, the connections to the thriving early ‘90s Chicago scene, etc. The thing is, it’s a fantastic record even without that context. Songs like “Help Me Mary” and “Never Said” are just bangin’ ‘90s alt-rock pop anthems, even as they tackle the more localized issue of shit-talking and misogyny in the Chicago music community. Phair was obviously an untrained singer and musician, her vocal style being very matter-of-fact and the mechanics of her guitar playing being fairly simple. But when you hear a song like “Soap Star Joe” or “Explain It to Me,” those qualities elevate the power of the music. Like so many great folk songs, the simplicity of song structure and the relatability of the singer give the music its emotional weight.
Ultimately, there has been no shortage of great writing on Exile in Guyville, and whatever I type out here will in no way match... say... what Gina Arnold accomplished with her entry in the 33 1/3 book series. But even if it’s a fun album to run through the lens of critical analysis or to examine as a reflection of a specific time and place, to me it will always be a great album that I immediately fell in love with in my backyard on an unseasonably warm spring day during an otherwise bleak time.
It became my soundtrack to the happier moments of the lockdown era of COVID. I listened to it while I basked in the sun in my backyard. I listened to it while I grilled on my barbecue. I listened to it over and over again on two long road trips out to my grandparent’s cabin in western Colorado. It’s an album that feels like a beam of positivity projected out of the darkness, and it consequently felt like a perfect salve during those uncertain days of Spring 2020. It was an intimate, diaristic window into another person’s life at a time when we were cut off from other humans. It’s brash, fun, catchy, brutally honest, and timeless, and as the Northwest has gotten its first few sun breaks suggesting the upcoming arrival of Spring, it’s an album I’ve found creeping back into rotation in anticipation of warmer days.

"Tell me what happened. Don't be modest."
"Tell me what happened. Don't be modest." Joe's eyes are twinkling in a manner that Nile does not find endearing in the slightest.
She heaves out a sigh. "Look, I don't know why it matters."
"It was very impressive," Nicky says, the corners of his mouth twitching suspiciously. "I have truly never seen the like."
Nile glares at him. "Et tu, Nicolò?"
"Come, it can't be so very terrible," Joe coaxes. "I promise you I have seen worse."
"Worse?" Nile gestures down at herself. "Are you kidding me, this is a brand new sweater, I really liked this sweater. Do you know how hard it is to get bloodstains out of white cashmere?"
"Yes, actually, quite intimately," Joe says. "Although I'm still not sure how you managed--"
"Head wounds," Nicky says sagely. "They bleed a lot."
"Right, but I thought you were teaching her how to win at darts. Even Booker could not manage to injure himself on a pub dart."
Nile puts her head in her hands. "It wasn't a dart."
"Nile," Nicky says cheerfully, "has been learning knife tricks from Andy."
"Oh, no," Joe says, badly concealing his grin.
"Oh, yes," Nile grumbles. "You know that thing, with the pocketknife, where you give it that twirl as you throw it--"
"And it goes ping! into the target," Nicky agrees. "Much more fun than those blunt little darts."
"I take it your knife did not go ping into the target," Joe says kindly.
"It bounced right off it," Nile says, dully, resigned to her fate. "And I was standing a little too close to it when I threw. So then--"
Nicky grins outright. "I think the word you are looking for is boomerang."
"Right into my fucking skull. Oh, my god, if you don't stop laughing, Joe, I am gonna--"
"Oh, Nile," Joe wheezes out, when he can catch his breath. "You are going to fit right in."

CJ coming through to feed my sudden appetite to be chatty about gifmaking, I appreciate you so, thank you for indulging me <33
4. A set that flopped but deserved better
It's interesting, because I just went through my gifmaking tag and just. Seeing my own interests of the past five years reflected back at me through time lovingly spent on making gifsets of them. I feel warmth for myself here tonight. And there's a lot of sets that would be nice to have more notes, but a lot of them I make knowing there's not much of a target audience on here anyway, and thus am not expecting them to crack 500 or even 100. However. I maintain that my gifset of Mako and Raleigh from Pacific Rim just looking at each other while trying to kick each others ass deserves better. Fun fact: this was actually made literal years before it was posted, waaaaaay back when I had just learned to gif, and the fact I still deemed it postable is a minor miracle tbh.
23. What is the thing you gif when you don’t have anything else you want to gif?
Usually Umbrella Academy and just specifically any Five acting moments I enjoy, mostly because I have the caps for the show ready and stored away. Getting the frames and chossing moments and getting them to fit into a specific frame count is always my least favourite part of gifmaking, so the fact that TUA has a lot less of that hurdle makes it very compelling to be as a destressing gifmaking go-to. Also Derry Girls, but the Discourse that happened around S3 as well as just a more hit or miss quality of episodes than I was used to, plus just the steadily declining engagement us gifmakers get really makes me focus on what I want to gif in any given moment, giffing for me rather than anyone else.
40. Why do you make gifs?
This is a good one, I love you for sending me this. I just love how gifmaking makes me engage with a piece of media. It leads to me looking at it more clearly, more precisely. I start to pick up patterns in the filmmaking, I can appreciate the acting better, and I get to keep a bit of it moving on my blog, so I don't have to go back to it every time I want to see a specific moment. It relaxes me and is the perfect activity to do when watching a video essay or something similar in the background. To me, it really is a way to appreciate and interact with a piece of media that I love on a different level where I get to pull it apart a little bit and try to figure out how it works, how it stands in relation to itself, to other media. Sometimes, I get to gif things for other people and try to make them smile, so it's a very beloved activity for me.
Gifmaking asks?

11 and 17 tell me more of your thoughts.
11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
I will talk about Grant, for you. <3 (Again, for people who aren't @irolltwenties, fandom doesn't dislike Grant, they just don't know who the hell he is.)
What always gets me about Grant is the contrast between his early years and his later ones. I always joke that Grant has never had anything good happen to him in his life ever, but the Grant we meet in his solo series is so optimistic. This is a kid who grew up being horribly abused, who has no friends and no one safe to turn to, who is continually let down by HEROES, who has a highly destructive power he can't control, who keeps getting in trouble with the authorities, and who is constantly attacked by people trying to kidnap or murder him.
And yet he still has that sweetness, you know? He has the Emerson System, that belief that things will be better if he can just figure out the exact right approach. He has a lot of anger, too - anger has been a crucial part of Grant's emotional makeup from the very beginning, and always will be - but it's balanced against the fact that even though he has never had a good day in his life, he still hopes that tomorrow will be the one.
And then we see Grant again in 2008, and that's just gone. He is running on nothing but anger now, because the only thing else he has in him is despair. It's so heartbreaking but it's also really compelling because, like...fuck, dude, I would too at that point! His anger is an understandable and proportionate response to what he's survived.
What I'm drawn to in Grant as a reader and as a writer is finding a way to rekindle that hope. Not expecting renewed optimism from a character who has been given absolutely zero reason to feel it, but giving him that breathing room and that validation and that safety. Giving him the space, and letting him make the choice to try to believe in something again. It's the kind of grace I want to offer everyone who's hurting, but Grant's fictional, so I can just go ahead and build it for him myself.
17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…
I mean, I would never have had the New 52 happen, but I tend not to go "Ugh this arc should never have happened" aside from just noting that something is hot garbage or mentally tweaking a scene to be more effective from a character perspective. (I.e. Ollie fighting Roy in Rise of Arsenal to stop him from killing Electrocutioner sucks, but Ollie offering to kill Electrocutioner for Roy would have been amazing.)
My brain is much more interested in looking at the situation now, and saying "If DC put me in charge tomorrow, what would I do with what I have?" So, a few thoughts:
Superman: I'm actually fine with Clark and Jon's books - I didn't want them to age Jon up, but it's water under the bridge now. The great shame of the Superbooks is the lack of a solid Supergirl ongoing. So, Supergirl book, WRITTEN BY A WOMAN OH MY FUCKING GOD, with young female readers as the target audience. My dream book would be one costarring Kon where they are living with Ma and Pa in Smallville, but seriously, anything with Supergirl FOR GIRLS, it is not that hard a nut to crack.
Batman: Cancel half the books so you they have room to publish other shit. Batman (the monthly comic) should focus on Bruce; Detective Comics should focus on the family. Both should have backup features highlighting the supporting cast. At least 33% of the Batbooks should be about characters who are not white men.
Green Lantern: There should be two books: Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps. Green Lantern can rotate its focus through Hal, John, Kyle, Simon, and Jessica. Green Lantern Corps is an ensemble book starring Guy, all the aliens, and any of the other humans who aren't currently starring in the other book. These two books are closely in sync and are allowed one (1) 4-part crossover a year.
Wonder Woman: STOP WITH THE FUCKING MINISERIES. I read every single book connected to Trial of the Amazons and I had no idea what the FUCK was happening. Either give Diana and Nubia both ongoings or have them costar in a single ongoing but for the love of Hera, streamline this shit.
Flash: This book is literally almost perfect right now, I would just add a backup feature to tell stories about other speedsters like Wallace, Bart, Avery, Jesse, Jay, Max, THAD, etc. (Barry too I guess. Whatever.)
Green Arrow: I am begging and pleading for a Green Arrow ongoing so that Ollie can talk to his kids again. Please. My crops are dying.
Aquaman: I repeat: STOP WITH THE FUCKING MINISERIES, THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FOLLOW. One book, please. Jackson can have his own stories in it! Arthur can vanish for months at a time! That's fine! But you can't build a franchise with a bunch of short, disconnected, hard-to-follow stories. You need an ongoing that gets readers invested.
Team books: At least one Justice League book. I think you can probably get away with Titans for Dick's generation, Outlaws for Jason's, YJ for Tim's, and Teen Titans for Damian's. (Jason and Tim do not get other books if they have these. Dick and Damian can keep theirs, the sales numbers are there. Also, Dick's gen can only keep their book if they can manage to not suck, which has not been the case since like 2001, SORRY.) I personally would be more interested in some kind of Infinity Inc revival/younger JSA-related characters than a regular JSA book. Suicide Squad. Maybe Outsiders? Oh, and Doom Patrol for sure.
Other: I would have to take a more serious look at the spread of how many books this is and who is represented to fill in the rest of the line, but off the top of my head, books I would love to see include: A Booster Gold book that's a zany time travel comedy with a side of slowburn romcom shenanigans with Ted. A Jaime Reyes book by young Latinx creators. Tracy 13 and Detective Chimp solving magical mysteries. Stargirl (she has a show!). Static Shock. Zatanna and/or Constantine. Something Fourth World. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO DC THAN BATMAN. PLEASE LET OTHER PEOPLE BE IN COMIC BOOKS.
(Hi yeah I have thoughts about how DC could be brand-building instead of running the only thing that works into the ground. Ask me anything!)

1, 12, or 20 for the ask game?
<33
Doing them all <3
When did you start writing?
I was pretty young, I think. nine or ten? It was all shitty self-inserts and multi crossovers, which I have stashed in a box somewhere. But I kept at it and now i can read those stories with genuine humor instead of embarrassment, both because I can see how far I've come and because I've realized that my target audience is me, so who cares if it's bad, yknow?
12. Do you have a word/phrase that you overuse in your writing?
Oh yeah. Multiple. None are coming to me off the top of my head, but occasionally I'll realize I've used the same phrase three times in the same chapter and do some quick editing lol. Sunadokei probably has the words 'snarl' and 'growl' at least once a chapter, every chapter.
20. Do you have one piece of advice for your fellow writers?
Write a lot. Not like, tons at a time, but writing just three sentences a day is great. If you're always thinking about what you want to write and never writing it, you won't feel 'good enough' to write it. Same thing with art, I think. So write a lot. Practice makes perfect, etc
Thanks for the ask! Cheers <3
