Galliano - "Freefall (Peshay Vocal Mix)"
Science Fiction Jazz - Volume Two by Minus 8
Song released in 1996. Compilation released in 1997.
Drum n Bass
It's a full-on mid-90s London affair here, with dnb workhorse Peshay remixing acid jazz group Galliano. This song was first issued in 1996 on a Galliano single called "Roofing Tiles," and then it appeared the following year on the second installment of Swiss DJ and musician Minus 8's well-compiled Science Fiction Jazz series.
Really nice and spacious tune that sees Peshay's dnb contributions complementing Galliano's acid jazz bits, from the flute to the mellow keys to the guitar.

Today's compilation:
DJ-KicksΒ by Kruder & Dorfmeister
1996
Downtempo / Trip Hop / Drum n Bass
Although they'd been primarily regarded as a talented remix and production duo, in 1996, Austrians Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister revealed to the world that what they may have actually been even better at doing, all along, was making DJ mixes. That year, they put out a pair of terrific ones: a drum n bass journey calledΒ Conversions, and their super chilly magnum opus for German electronic label !K7's popularΒ DJ-KicksΒ series. And thatΒ DJ-KicksΒ one, in particular, happens to hold a mythical status of its own, as it's been rated by many as the single-greatest DJ mix that's ever been made. Plus, likeΒ Conversions,Β DJ-KicksΒ had drum n bass on it too, but K&D also blended that dnb with blissful bouts ofΒ dub-infused downtempo and trip hop as well π.
But what I ended up listening to today wasn't actually that mix, exactly; instead, it was the *double-12-inch edition* of K&D'sΒ DJ-Kicks, which collected full-length, unmixed versions of seven of the songs that appeared on the mixed CD edition.
So, if you love loungey chillout music and/or spacious and atmospheric dnb tunes, not only is the DJ mix essential listening for you, but so are all of these uninterrupted versions of some of that mix's own tracks too. Glasgow's Paul Hunter kicks things off with a terrific head-nodder in "Living Free," which is then followed by UK artist Omni Trio's "Trippin' on Broken Beats," a sweet, shuffling dnb-type of groove that incorporates one of my favorite synthesizer sounds of all time: the Korg M1 Organ preset 02, which was famously featured in a bunch of club classics, like Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman." And after that, Germany's Hardfloor, the master manipulators of the Roland TB-303βthe bass synthesizer responsible for producing the famous acid squelch sound that kickstarted the whole acid house revolutionβgrace us with a trip-hoppy collage of different electronic sounds called "Dubdope," which sees them far removed from the hard trance and techno that had made them such dance legends in the first place π.
Plus, the kings of the globally-quilted chillout sound, Washington, DC's Thievery Corporation, swing by at the end to deliver the ultra-satisfying "Shaolin Satellite" too.
So, since there isn't a single skip-worthy track on K&D'sΒ DJ-KicksΒ mix, it only makes sense that there wouldn't be one on its corresponding double-12-inch version either. As expected, a terrific, little collection of very well-crafted relaxational vibes here.
Highlights:
Small World - "Living Free (Soundtrack mix)"
Omni Trio - "Trippin' on Broken Beats"
Hardfloor - "Dubdope"
JMJ & Flytronix - "In Too Deep"
Shantel - "Bass and Several Cars"
Tango - "Spellbound"
Thievery Corporation - "Shaolin Satellite"

Flula Borg presents: '90s nostalgia.
The 90s, we knew them well; 'twas the one decade to rule them all.Β The SimpsonsΒ was as good as it has ever been. Princess Diana stole our hearts. For reasons still unclear, our species decided to clone a sheep, whom we christened Dolly. Bill Clinton was out and about. Kids and adults alike would escape reality for the havens of the Super Nintendo, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, or Game Boy Color. The McMansion became a mainstay of American architecture.Β The Cool S reigned supreme.
Generation X were able to enjoy the cultural fruits of rave, grunge, Britpop, hip hop, drum and bass, and Eurodance. And it was a golden era, perhapsΒ theΒ golden era, of the sitcom:Β The Fresh Prince, Cheers, Seinfeld, Family Matters, Married... with Children. These were days toΒ kick back in an armchair, complete with a built-in refrigerator, and watch and watch every last hour of the finest television our species has to offer. It was a tall ask, but someone had to do it.
Fortunately, that man is very tall, German, and very funny. His name isΒ #flula borg.Β You know him, more likely than not. And he has most graciously plucked some achingly 90s delights from the dashboard, for your viewing pleasure.Β

πππ πππππππ'π πππ / the 70's rock band that took teyvat by storm
ISSUE 01. Everyone knows who The Sunbird's Six were. Their songs revited through the nations: tender and ethereal with each poignant verse. Yet, the group of six showed they could sing verses of ardour while thirsting with unrequited rage that tore souls apart in one sitting. Their debut and only album βVermilionβ was hypnotic and utterly divine. It was a mosaic of winsome pieces that were put together to make one gut-wrenching album that you ultimately ugly cry to.
SO WHO WAS THE SUNBIRD'S SIX? Comprised of four founding members from Mondstadt, one from Snezhnaya, and the other from Fontaine, we get a cast of Teyvat's most talented musicians. Specifically, Diluc Ragnvindr as lead guitarist, songwriter and vocalist and ( Name ) St. Laurent as lead vocalist and songwriter. The duo bewitched the throng and perhaps themselves with both their flaming allure and vocals. Youth of the 70's wanted to become ( Name ) with all her charm and freedom while some fans died to get a strand of Diluc's hair alone. The other members include Jean Gunnhildr on keys, Rosaria on drums, Kaeya Alberich as bass guitarist, and 'Childe' as rhythm guitarist.
ISSUE 02. Yet, as The Sunbirds Six became a renowned household and rock name, their disbandment remains unknown- until now.

Kaeya Alberich ( bass guitarist ) : Ha! We were good... too good.
Rosaria ( drummer ) : Back then- things were simpler. You wanted to play? Grab an instrument and fucking play. That was our original motto... until things started getting messy. And by messy I mean Diluc and Childe. Maybe even ( Name ) too. *Sighs* Actually, all of us. But, you can't write an album like 'Vermilion' without going through all that shit.
Jean Gunnhildr ( pianist ) : When the four of us first came together, we were decent. We all loved playing- some more than others- but we were okay! *Smiles slightly* But, if you're going to go beyond the walls of the Ravginder basement- we needed more.
Childe ( rhythm guitarist ) : Do I sit here? *Laughs* Oh okay. When I was invited to join the band- I said, "Okay, my partner will join too." and of course, there was zero objection cause you don't find a musician like ( Name ) anywhere... a small part of me selfishly wishes that she [ ( Name ) ] said no when I asked. *Laughs* But who am I kidding? I'd go through all that again and again... even if it meant dealing with Diluc-
Diluc Ragnvindr ( lead guitarist ) We only needed another vocalist, a female one. So, we found one.
Kaeya : I was the one who told him we needed a female vocalist and I found her and Childe.
Rosaria : Rockin' roll is not serious till you really add whatever emotions ( Name ) had in the mix- and that's exactly what she did.
( Name ) St. Laurent : *Smiles sweetly* It was ugly, so ugly. However, bygones be bygones. It was only rockin' roll.
Diluc : It was not just rockin' roll.
