Hi, i understand it's sound as a silly question, but would you recommend watching Utena? And if yes, what should i expect from it...?
Anon, I’m so serious when I say every person over the age of 13 should watch Revolutionary Girl Utena. It changes and saves lives. A gateway to feminist theory.
Now, about your question on what to expect from Utena? Some people say it’s about lesbianism but I strongly disagree. Sure, there are lesbians in it. The main couple is two lesbians and their journey together. But lesbianism is not really what it is about.
RGU is about gender. It’s also about family. It’s about the intersection of power within the family unit through a gendered lens. It’s about how the concept of family’s natural endpoint is incest NOT because incest is “forbidden love” but because it is the oppression and abuse of a patriarchal society distilled into its purest form.
RGU is a fairytale deconstruction that doesn’t try to be edgy and different. It simply asks the question of who benefits from the narratives within fairytales. There is a prince. There is a princess. He saves her, what more can you say? It’s the subject and the object. And then there are those who don’t comply with the natural order. Of course that’s a villain. But real life is more complicated than that.
Utena episodes are silly. They’re zany and play quite nicely with other fake european style school animes. They’re also chock full of psychological horror. You’ll also get kickass fight songs like this one as Utena duels with a variety of colorful characters with awesome hair. Be ready to rewatch episodes trying to understand whatever that one shot or highlighted symbol meant. Be ready to be horrified by implied grooming and incestuous rape that hits way harder than if it was shown graphically onscreen.
But more than anything else - at least for me - Utena is about hope. It’s about having hope and then finding courage in yourself to leave unhealthy situations both interpersonal and within yourself. It’s about giving yourself the chance to heal.
You too can escape the cycle!

Thoughts on the Mario movie (spoilers ahead)
The animation is awesome. I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
Mario proves his platforming prowess right at the beginning.
Why are there so many short jokes? Mario is a short king!
My favorite part is when Luigi escaped the Dry Bones, and then lightning strikes, showing the Shy Guys behind him. My second favorite part is when the Shy Guys are leading him through the forest and the one Shy Guy says "(Shy Guy noise)." Basically, I like Shy Guys.
I actually kinda like Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as Mario and Luigi. For most of the movie, they were just Mario and Luigi.
On a similar note, I could hardly tell that Bowser and Toad were Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key, but then again, I haven't seen anything with KMK in a while.
I'm not sure if I like how they portrayed Peach. I've always thought that Daisy was the kickass princess and Peach was the gentle one.
Jack Black once again proving that he has pipes.
Only one Koopaling reference in the entire movie. Shame.
Next-day edit: I just realized there was not a single Lakitu. Even bigger shame.
I find it hilarious that Bowser is equal parts ruthless tyrant and simp for Peach.
The choice to add 80s music was an unexpected choice, but a welcome one. I loved watching them ride through the Kong Kingdom to "Take On Me."
Also, DK! DONKEY KONG!
That was not the voice I was expecting for Cranky Kong.
Chunky is not dead.
In retrospect, the option to portray Donkey Kong as a shithead was completely obvious, especially since they cast Seth Rogen.
Seth Rogen does the Seth Rogen laugh.
Mario: "It's fire flower time!" DK: "Haha gentle blow go brrr."
I personally would have picked the 64 theme for the Rainbow Road scene, but the arrangement for the SNES theme knocked it out of the park.
Blue shell Koopa was a jerk as expected.
Peach legit becomes Elsa at the end. Also, Tanooki Mario is just Tails.
I was bopping my head to the star music when Mario and Luigi grabbed the Super Star.
Overall, a solid 9/10. Please get that Luma some therapy.

I can’t believe it, one of my favorite movies is available for free!
The acting is amazing as hell, the stunt work and fight choreography provided by the legendary Bob Anderson (you’ll know him as the man who provided the choreography for the original “Star Wars” Trilogy, “The Princess Bride”, “Highlander”, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”, and MANY others I could name) is spectacular, the soundtrack is awesome (helps that the score was done by James Horner), and just…
Gah, it’s just so damn GOOD!
I mean, it has no shaky as crap camera that makes it hard to see what’s going on (or makes the viewer wanna get a barfbag from motion sickness), nor does it have facepalm inducing cgi or any of that garbage so many modern action movies have these days.
The fact that this movie still holds up incredibly well is a testament to just how kickass action movies from the 90’s could be.
It truly has aged like fine wine. :)

I just have a lot of feelings about Pash Cracken and Judder Page okay
Okay so you know how when you're a wee babby fan, and you read stuff, and maybe you don't know what shipping is yet, or you've juuuust about advanced to the point where you pick up on the ships that most writers are going HEY HEY LOOK THIS IS A CANON RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A CANON COUPLE, AND THEY ARE TOTES DATING AND MAKING OUT RIGHT HERE ON THE PAGE LOOKIT, but most of the time you're just going WOAH SPACESHIPS MAN PEW PEW PEW
And then sometimes there are characters you can see in your head because they were in films, or were referenced in films, and you attach to them because they've got names like Wedge or Janson or Darklighter, and you pay attention to them because the writer is going HEY LOOK AT AWESOME PEOPLE DOING AWESOME THINGS
And THEN sometimes there are these characters that don't have names you remember from movies, and you have a hard time seeing them in your head because they don't look like anyone you know, but then the writer has them doing AWESOME THINGS and you go WOAH AWESOME CHARACTER
And then somehow in your head these awesome characters start hanging out, despite the fact that they never really had a whole lot of interaction in the pages of the books you first loved them in
And then suddenly you're writing fanfic where they're space-married.
Because like, they're three years apart and Pash grew up in a family of freedom fighters during the Galactic Civil War he followed his daddy into service, and was a kickass A- and X-wing pilot, and Judder was the son of a rich Imperial senator who went to the Imperial Academy and defected after hearing Princess Leia give a speech about how SUPER SPECIEST THE EMPIRE WAS, and HE was a kickass commando.
AND THEN DURING THE NEW JEDI ORDER THEY SERVED TOGETHER ON THE MEMORY OF ITHOR WHICH WAS DESTROYED AT BILBRINGI AND THEY SPENT MONTHS IN A YUUZHAN VONG POW CAMP ON SELVARIS, WHERE THEY ARE BASICALLY THE HEAD GUYS IN CHARGE OF ALL THE PRISONERS THERE, AND MADE PLANS AND KEPT EVERYONE FROM LOSING HOPE OR GOING CRAZY, AND JUST--
Tumblr media
(This has been in my drafts since Sept 11 2012, as evidenced by the SPN gif, and I'm finally setting it free. idk what happened to fic, I don't remember writing anything, but it makes me want to reread Legends stuff.)

What do you think the dynamic between the hopaz fam and Scent would be. (Besides Turq since we know that one already.) Like I imagine Hody is creeped out by her while Topaz thinks she's kickass lol.
For Topaz, I think it depends on how Scent interacts with Topaz cause Tor used to call her pudgy womanchild and the like, so she if she's like that towards her then Topaz would mostly side-eye her. But she would still think her fighting is cool though.
And yeah, I do see Hody thinking she's creepy lol. Phyrus too.
Delphine would like her enough but think to herself that she's not "princess-y" enough. And then Vander thinks anyone who can fight good is awesome.

Finished watching The Long Ballad. Overall enjoyed it a lot.
The premise is: Li Changge is a princess of the early Tang dynasty whose parents and whole family get killed in a palace counter-coup. At first she swears vengeance and goes on the run; along the way of her journey she meets a general of the not!Goturk (because of censorship >_>;) who falls in love with her.
The thing is enjoyed the most was the music. Both the OP and the ED are kickass and the soundtrack overall was great which helped immensely the epic feel of the story. The characters are overall very charismatic. Li Changge is adequately badass, her LI is stoic in an endearing way. There are also some very adorable secondary characters in a timid princess who end up having an awesome character arc of growth, and the sinister warrior originally tasked with capturing and killing Li Changge who also has an awesome character arc of growth where he falls in love with the timid princess and is adorably confused about it. One of the thing i liked is that there's entirely evil people (asides from a few bit characters), there's a lot of sympathy for the antagonists as well as some switching along the way. The main theme is one of renouncing vengeance as not worth it.
Sometimes I found the show lacked a little bit direction though. The main antagonist is properly introduced a bit too late to be a real thrust of the story (and frankly, their plan seem to far fetched to be worth worrying seriously about). Li Changge doesn't have enough plans after the very beginning either to provide that impetus.
However it's really a small criticism. I liked that series a lot overall.

I will say I want something about the story if a person suggests a thing to me to read. Not a lot just more than beyond “it’s great read it” even if it’s not much of a description etc. I mean something like say “it’s pirates but they’re dwarfs” is infinity better to me compare to just “it’s awesome!”
Tell me why it’s awesome even if it’s only part of it.
Exactly, because something like 'this was awesome' can be ultimately subjective.
At least if there's even a slight attempt at an actual summary in addition to 'this was awesome', then there's a better chance of the latter being genuine.
To put it into perspective, what grabs the eye more:
'In this tantalizing, gothic retelling of the classic Grimm fairy tale, a young baker who only goes by 'Red' finds herself thrown headfirst into a war between two feuding werewolf clans, the Grandes and the Maleci, when both clans send their eldest sons to try and get Red to giver up her bakery. The only problem? The bakery is the last thing that Red has of her late grandmother and she has gone through too much, and has too much blood on her hands to give it up without a fight. Read the breakout novel that critics are calling 'decadently dark' and 'an amazing romance for the modern palate'.'
Versus
'Do you like Teen Wolf? How about Disney princess movies? Do you like polyamorous romances with kickass female leads, angsty Bruce Wayne-type love interests, and the peppy 'boy next door'? Well, here's an AWESOME new book! Everybody's been raving over it so you will too!'

TWITL - week twenty-seven - staycation
Tumblr media
It's Thursday, July 7th, as I begin this post. I probably won't post it until Saturday or Sunday but I thought I'd start it and then clean it up before I click that "publish" button. After I wrote that paragraph, I didn't write again until now, Saturday the 9th. https://flic.kr/p/2nwry4M Top Gun: Maverick - I saw this movie on Tuesday morning in one of the smaller auditoriums at the AMC. First off, Tom Cruise still looks good. Does he not age? Second, I get why Miles Teller has that rather hideous mustache and I got used to it after awhile. Third, I enjoyed the movie and probably rank it in my top five of the year so far. (RRR and Elvis and Thor: Love and Thunder are the only movies ahead of it, off the top.) The flying sequences were freakin’ awesome. The plot was simple but interesting. There was a nice touch of nostalgia and I did cry a couple of times during the movie... The Princess - I love it when the girls are the kickass characters in movies. This one took the damsel in distress and made her the hero of her own story. Great action sequences. Definitely recommend it... Thor: Love and Thunder - I saw this one on Thursday afternoon in the Dolby Cinema auditorium. No one sat next to me (YES!) and I drank my water at a good pace so as not to have to get up during the movie. Oh, and how did I like the movie? Well, I like it so much that I'm going to watch it again on Sunday, in IMAX. I loved the humor, the action, the pull of the heart strings. I love how they brought Jane Foster back. Thor has grown so much as a character and I loved seeing that too. And oh my goodness, I want to talk about that mid-credits scene but I can't. And the end credit scene was good too but I can't talk about that one either. It's sort of killing me. And I'm IMPRESSED that the one cameo was not leaked. It was so good... Where do I rank this as far as the Thor movies? Well, it's ALMOST sharing the top spot with Thor: Ragnarok, which is my favorite Thor movie. Maybe it'll top it after the second viewing. I think the fact that I want to see it again just mere days after the first time means that there's something about the movie. Also, Chris Hemsworth = Read the full article

Title: When All is lost, then All is found
Fandom: Star Wars (Sequel Trilogy)
Pairing: Rey/Ben Solo | Kylo Ren
Rating: E (for later)
Chapters: 1/10
Summary: Haunted by the voices from the past since conception, Prince Ben Solo had always thought he would get in huge trouble because of his unstable dark magic. But what he could never have expected was a marriage contract and a certain feisty princess to become the catalyst of the worst and best things to happen to him. But will Rey and her light be enough as his world and everything he ever knew is shaken in the worst possible way? And what happens when reality turns out to be much more complicated than he ever imagined?
Where there is dark, there is light. What has a past, must have a future. Where there is love, there's always sacrifice.
A Star Wars/Frozen AU with a dash of royal drama, older Ben, eventual smut, and lots of magical interference (light and dark) tied with a ribbon of eventual HEA.
See Playlist
I have been meaning to write a Frozen Reylo fic for a while, no scratch that, since I joined the fandom and re-read @jhsgf82's "Frigid" which she wrote for me (Awww, I love you Mandy 💕)
I finally got the opportunity to write it as a birthday gift for the wonderful new friend I have now @tmwillson3. She's been a kickass friend, beta and an even more phenomenal smutty author for Reylo. I cant thank her enough for any of the three things she does lol, so here we are.
I hope to update this at least once before my exams arrive (already wrote 2k words yesterday) because I am so damn inspired!!
I would also like to thank Leo, my poor beta who really went through the raging storm that is MY writing and came out victorious with an improved version of said storm lol.
And @jhsgf82 again for staying up past her bedtime and basically making up 90% of this awesome summary 😅

It’s October!
In the “plus” column, we have:
Whumptober (Oh yes, it’s here!)
My birthday - the 15th! :D Wheee!! Can’t believe I’ll turn - gasp - 33 this year?! :D :D lol honestly I am quite pleased to have made it this far <3 <3 <3
and!
Halloween (aka not sure if my kiddo wants to go as a: ballerina, doctor, teacher, cowgirl, Ladybug Girl, Pinkalicious, fairy, pirate, or princess.) In order to best prepare her costume, I shall: Sit back. Watch as she proceeds to don every. Single. dress-up. article of clothing she owns. Applaud in delight. And then hand her a Halloween bucket and enjoy going out trick or treating with her being absolutely everything, all at once. :D :D I might…be a ghost? Idk. I do have a bow and arrow. Perhaps I shall attempt to go as my name, Rangergirl. :D :D Oooh. That could be fun. :D
In other breaking news, this is also me, writing/brainstorming for this month:
Tumblr media
But, on the other hand, I do sort of have to brace myself for an unpleasant family-of-origin-task which is coming up next week. Namely, interacting face-to-face with both of my parents, which is not fun, at all. But:
1) I’m keeping my boundaries in place. Namely, I will be the one to initiate any type of physical contact whatsoever. Which is important, as I do not feel safe around them, ever, but at least I can keep them at more than arms length this way.
2) It will be a very, very short interaction, and my hubby (aka best friend) will be with me every second. Like, I will literally not be alone with either of my parents for any reason, whatsoever. The better to avoid attempts at emotional subversion, petty comments, etc. (or at least to limit my exposure to them).
3) I’m putting together a playlist to help me remember that this is, overall, a very tiny portion of time, and that I am a kickass awesome resilient person, and my family of origin are dumb butts for not treating me with respect. Included are: ‘Finish Line’ by Skillet, ‘Hero’ by NerdOut, and ‘Never Going Back’ by The Score. :D
4) I’ll only be out of my regular, sanity-reassuring routine for a few short days, but…eh. I will be interacting with two of the people who were consistently terrible to me throughout my formative years. Put simply, I do not like the cone of shame. (Pixar movie reference there). And like, I won’t tolerate asinine behavior, but…it’s going to be sort of difficult, going back to the general area where that mindset of ‘You’re a bad daughter!’ was so ingrained into my pyche.
5) On the plus side, I can…um…show my hubby the Starbucks I used to hang out at when I was in highschool…? Because I had no friends and it was where I would spend time either reading or crafting when waiting to get picked up from after school stuff, and even though it was in the heart of a crazy downtown location, due to the house I lived in being too crowded/stressful/dangerous, I just…felt so much better there in Starbucks. If you got there early enough, you could scoootch a table and a chair into a small corner in the back and just people watch, which was nice. High point of my school years, right there. <3
And for the finale of this post, please have a gif of the one, the only, the INCREDIBLE Marisha Ray for just - you know. Being her. And doing all that awesome ‘dope monk shit’ as her character in Campaign 2 of Critical Role.
Tumblr media
Please know that I love you all, my wonderful friends, and I am thinking of you! <3 Also hoping to interact more once this crazy-making family-of-origin-stuff is out of the way <3

so is every episode named after a book then? Just a completely random ass book? because "What the Thunder Said" sounds awesome and kickass and then you get to "The Monster at the End of This Book" and I'm like, "IT'S A FREAKING SESAME STREET BOOK I HAD THAT AS A KID WHAT IS THIS?" And that's when I remembered reading What The Thunder Said (It's around here somewhere still, too) and it hit me.
okay, first off - I am THRILLED I am not the only one that knows The Monster at the End of this Book
and second  -
LMAO!!!  okay, so, I went and looked.  And here’s what we got
EP 01: What the Thunder Said
The WasteLand V: by TS Eliot
EP 02: Princess of Nothing
The Fate of Crowns #2 by Rebecca L. Garcia (I am iffy on this one, but its the first thing that popped up on the search)
EP 03: Neverwhere Land
Heavy Metal (movie)
EP 04:  The Monster at the End of this Book
Tumblr media
(look this BETTER be what's being referenced.  There is NO other option as far as I’m concerned)
EP 05: The Fire Sermon
The Wasteland III by TS Eliot
which is a direct reference to
Ādittapariyāya Sutta
EP 06: The Knight, Death and the Devil
Tumblr media
by Albrecht Dürer (total chills if this one is right)
EP 07: Speak the Words
youtube
(not sure about this one but, again, first in the search that used ‘words’ instead of just ‘word’)
EP 08: A Game of Chess
which - okay, couldn’t find a direct reference but it IS a super vague title.
Now, granted, I’m just internet searching so I’m sure not all of these apply and the titles of the episodes fit what’s going on IN the episodes super well.  But, now that we’ve done a bit of poking, if Ashley Miller was NOT intentionally naming his episodes after song lyrics and wood carvings and kid’s books like any good fic writer desperate to come up with titles would, I will now be VERY disappointed.

Heads up, this is MY personal opinion. I'm sorry if one of your favorite Disney princess is not in the place you feel like they should be. But again, these are my personal ranking of where I feel each Disney Princess lies. Let's go down the list... 1) Belle: Out of all the Disney Princesses and their moves in general, Belle is by far my top favorite. And Beauty and the Beast is my top favorite in the Disney Princess movies. It was my childhood. I loved it so much and I loved how strong Belle was. She is certainly my idol and I will always love her. (Not going to mention that stupid live action one. Ugh...) 2) Tiana: Princess and the Frog comes in second for my favorite movies and Tiana is awesome. I also like how she is focused on trying to achieve her goals but in the end, she learns that it's also good to embrace the little things. Otherwise, you will miss it. This is a really good lesson to learn. 3) Rapunzel: Rapunzel reminds me of myself when I was younger. Creative and also naive. She will always be in the top three for me. I really do love Tangled. It's a fun adventure and the songs are great. 4) Mulan: Rewatching Mulan has made me love her even more. I can understand why people enjoy the movie so much and I do too. Mulan is a great role model. She isn't perfect but that's fine. And it's not also because she's Asian like me. (Again...gonna ignore the horrible live action remake.) 5) Pocahontas: Okay unpopular opinion, but, I really love Pocahontas. Both the first and second. I guess I can see why people didn't like the movies in general, but for me, it's like with the Don Bluth Anastasia. I like historical fiction. And I feel both did great with these two. I love Pocahontas's spirit and how she fights for her people. I do think the one drawback I have is John Smith. It really boggles my mind people prefer him over John Rolfe when Smith is still a freaking racist sexist guy who only liked Pochontas for her pretty face and wanted to change her. Rolfe loved her for her who she is. Yeah, Rolfe all the way for me! 6) Kida: Ah yes, the forgotten queen. Recently I have watched Atlantis the Lost Empire and I really enjoyed it. The characters were great and I also liked the story. Kida is really kickass and able to look it while doing it. So yeah, awesome queen. 7) Moana: I really love Moana. Both her and her movie. Moana is a great character. Love the songs and I love how Disney went all out in doing their research to make such a beautiful movie. And of course, let's not forget The Rock playing Maui. XD 8) Megera: I have always enjoyed the sassy types and Meg is no different. I loved her no nonsense and then turning into a better person in the end. Plus Hercules is one of my favorite movies too. I love the style and I love coming back to rewatch it. The songs are seriously catchy too. 9) Elsa: Elsa is an older sister like me, so I can see where she comes from. I have seen people stating she is a horrible sister in Frozen 2, but honestly, I just don't see that way. Yes she should have told Anna about the voice, but let's be real, she grew up pushing Anna away because she was forced to. She's not used to being so open. And honestly, I know Anna is allowed to worry for her but um...I always felt she was too clingy. Frozen 2 I feel has some major issues, but I will explain that a bit more when I get to Anna. Bottom line, I prefer Elsa and her songs Show Yourself and Let it Go are still my favorites. 10) Esmeralda: In my childhood, I have never seen the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Reason why is that I just never was able to get the movie. But it did look awesome. I remember having a Esmeralda shirt when I was little and it was one of my favorite shirts. She is one of my favorites and I love how she never judged anyone until after she got to know them. 11) Ariel: Okay, we're kinda in the neutral zone right now. While I did enjoy The Little Mermaid for the most part, Ariel wasn't exactly my favorite. But don't get me wrong, I didn't hate her either. I guess I didn't know what to feel for her. Though I do like her singing and her voice actress Jodi Benson. 12) Jasmine: Again, like with The Little Mermaid, while I did enjoy Aladdin, Jasmine is just neutral to me. I do admire her for not wanting to marry just for the sake of it. And having a pet tiger is awesome. But she doesn't really stick out so much for me. So yeah... 13) Aurora: Considering Aurora doesn't have the biggest screen time compared to the other princesses, I seriously can't be too harsh on her. Sleeping Beauty is a nice movie and I love the art in it. But I felt the movie was more about the good fairies than Aurora herself. So it's why she falls in the D category. She didn't have enough screen time to give us a proper characterization. 14) Cinderella: This was kinda tough...Cinderella wasn't exactly my favorite movie. Though the character herself is fine. She doesn't have the most unique personality but I do admire for her staying kind and hopeful despite living with such an abusive family. I also feel bad that most people misinterpret her character who has to be saved all the time. 15) Merida: Ah yes, now to finally tell my real thoughts on Merida. Honest truth, she is really not my favorite. Far from it. If it wasn't for the Big Four fandom, I would have cared less about Merida. Her actions in her movie were...seriously selfish. And I know, she doesn't want to be married, I get that. And I have see her fans act like it's her mother's fault for doing that. But, keep in mind, her mother was doing it because she wanted to keep peace with the clans. Merida's actions almost sent them into an all out war. But I also feel Brave has some major issues. It could have been an awesome movie but it wasn't. It was one of Pixar's weakest and Merida isn't really all that great. 16) Anna: I don't know why, but Anna falls low on this list too. I have never been the biggest fan of her and she did not do herself well in Frozen 2. I know she loves Elsa, but she put herself in danger by running into the fire. Elsa didn't run into it, ANNA DID. And she treated Kristoff not so well either. She was more tolerable in the first because I know she just wanted to reconnect with Elsa. I feel like Disney tried to give Anna way too make quirks that...meh, I don't think I can really put up with her. Again, if it wasn't for me liking the idea of her being the daughter of Jack Frost and Rapunzel, I would care less about Anna. 17) Snow White: I know she's the very first Disney Princess and the fact she is in the first movie ever. But honestly, she's my least favorite due to her being kinda bland and forgettable. Though I did like her interactions with the Dwarfs. All in all, she's meh to me. So there you have it. My real thoughts on the Disney princesses and where they fall under for me. I'm sure people will have different opinions on this and that's fine. For me, this is what I truly think of them.

Star Wars is sorely lacking in relationships between women
In the prequel trilogy, Padme is surrounded by men. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Palpatine, Jar Jar, Bail Organa. And one of the things I find most interesting about Padme is her relationship to her handmaid/bodyguards, which is never actually explored (I think there’s a book about this, but I haven’t read it).
In the original trilogy we’ve got Leia, who is the kickass princess we all deserve, but she’s also....surrounded by men. Now that I’m thinking about it, does she have a meaningful interaction with another woman even once in these movies??
Then we’ve got the sequel trilogy. Rey is the center and Rey is a wonderful character, but again. SHE. IS. SURROUNDED. BY. ALL. MEN. She hugs Leia at the end of TFA but they exchange no dialogue and before that hug they’ve never even met. In TLJ she doesn’t talk to Leia until the very end. Never interacts with Rose, barely at all in TROS. Rose doesn’t interact with any other woman except Leia, but even that is extremely sparse. Holdo and Leia have one (1) amazing moment in TLJ when they hold each other’s hand and say May the Force Be With You and I swoon over that moment every time. More of that please!!! For as much as they gave us an awesome (minus TROS Rey, that was a mess) heroine, it still feels like it’s only a hollow representation of what women can and should be in Star Wars. And this is not to say that Ben, Finn, Luke, Han, and Poe are not fantastic and necessary characters (especially Finn and Poe, it is great that the movies feature men of color and I truly do love their characters and wish they weren’t shoved off to the side, especially Finn) but just looking at women in Star Wars here, I wish women had meaningful relationships with other women the way men are depicted having deep and complex relationships with each other in this universe. The sequel trilogy.....just isn’t it.
The Mandalorian, same thing. I love Cara Dune with all my heart, but she doesn’t have any other women who are main characters to interact with.
The animated shows do much better. In The Clone Wars we have Ahsoka, who I would argue is the best character in all of Star Wars hands down. We get entire episodes featuring Ahsoka, exclusively developing her character and her arc, and we get amazing Ashoka team ups: Ahsoka and Padme, Ashoka and Trace and Rafa, Ahsoka and Bariss. We also have Padme, Satine, Bo-Katan, and Master Luminara, all amazing characters (although it sucks that Satine and Bo-Katan are sisters and we literally never see them interact). We even get a lady villain, Asajj Ventress, which I desperately need more of. Rebels also has wonderful women characters: Hera and Sabine. But again, most of the Ghost crew are men, and most of the other major characters in Rebels are men.
Which brings me to announcement of The Bad Batch tv series, and why I’m a little skeptical of it. If you haven’t seen TCW, The Bad Batch are a group of clones that didn’t turn out quite right. They look different than the other clones, and they have highly specialized skills that the other clones don’t have. They appear in the first few episodes of the last season of TCW. They are an entertaining group, interesting and funny, but when their arc ended on the show I wasn’t terribly upset to see them go. They aren’t a bad choice for a tv series, but....they are all men. It is a show about a group of men. I’m sure they’ll have women in this story somewhere and I’m sure they’ll be great, but you just can’t have fully realized women characters who never interact meaningfully with other women. You just can’t!!!
I want a You were my brother!/I hate you! moment, but between women. I want women of color. I want nonbinary characters and trans women. I want them to be just as interesting and complex as all the other characters in Star Wars, not placed there as tokens. I want romantic love between women, I want friendship between women, I want morally gray women, bad women, good women, Jedi women, senator and queen and emperor women. I want women who fight and women who don’t. I want women who take a stand and women who don’t know what they stand for. Women who make mistakes. Women who fall in love. Women who lean on the other women in their life and find solace there. I want heroes and I want villains. I want it all. I demand it all. We deserve to see ourselves in these stories. We deserve to tell these stories. Star Wars is for everyone and I want to see that reflected. There’s still a long way to go.

Bakugou & the Drums
Tumblr media
Background for Zero-Verse
First off, a disclaimer that yes, I know BNHA is in the future and there would be new bands and all the current bands would be really old, but for a lot of the cultural references in Zero I just act as if contemporary things are the same.
Katsuki’s favourite band is X-Japan!!
They’re old school and have been around since 1982, but they were Mitsuki’s favorite band when she was in college. She introduced them to Katsuki when he was really young, so they’re a nostalgic group for him. Their drummer Yoshiki is amazing and Katsuki became attached and is of the opinion that Yoshiki is the best drummer and he will fight you if you disagree. In one of the side stories, Katsuki goes to an X-Japan concert with Mitsuki and Deku for his tenth bday and Deku gets him the Yoshiki drumsticks that show up in ZR.
Baku isn’t one to keep up with modern groups, he just knows a good drummer when he hears one and listens to the songs with the good drum solos that he happens to hear. To earn his solidarity as a fan, drummers have to have proven that they’re awesome again and again, so most of the drummers he’s a hardcore fan of are older.
Band Posters in his Dorm:
Loudness- Munetaka Higuchi- another band from the 80s that Mitsuki introduced him to while he was young :D L’Arc en Ciel- Yukihiro- They’ve been around since late 90s early 2000s, so not quite as old as the other two, but still a well-established group with a drummer who’s vying for the title of Japan’s best. D’erlanger- Tetsu- Another drummer from one of Mitsuki’s favorite band (not that Katsuki would ever admit that he and his Mom have the same taste in music. She just coincidentally happens to have favorite bands with kickass drummers). Also, just look at that drumset. I’m in awe. Katsuki frowns upon modern drummers relying a lot on tricks like having their drum-set elevated and rotating or things like that in order to gain the crowd’s attention. One younger drummer he really likes is Rina Suzuki from Scandal because who cares if she dresses like a shitty princess? She kicks ass on the drums. He’s not the biggest One OK Rock fan because they’re too much of a pop band, but they’ve got by far the best drummer (Tomoya Kanki) of the bands Deku likes, so he ends up listening to a lot of their shit, too.

10 - Clair Bennet (Heroes.) She really was brave in a new way to my when I watched this show...
9-Missy (Doctor who); because she couldn’t very well keep calling herself the doctor. Man, she gr8!
8-13th doctor (who); haven’t reached it yet. But just the little gifs trailing past and omg, female doctor; finally!
7-Vicky the Viking -technically not a girl. But I didn’t know that growing up, and felt she was kickass.
6- Nami (One piece). So, you are indebted to pay your way, probably forever to evil pirates? Steal from other evil pirates! Nami really lives the dream. And she might need to be saved and rescued. But. that’s the point of the show. The boyz need to be saved and rescued too, and then the girls are there just as well. <3
5-Xena (warrior princess) somersaults ftw!
3-Nico Robin -One piece. Yes, twice from the same show. But. I cannot help it...
2- Shuri (Black Panther). So I’m trying to name some other awesome peeps. But, I cannot do a list without her. snark-it!
1-Michelle Jones (spiderman, mcu) by Zendaya. Seriously girl needs her own movie. Prev comedy. The faces she does!
