There are so many ways to go with this one! Like, do you have Eddie as the competent mentor-type who takes a shine to this upstart dork? Do you have Buck be the established pirate who decides to fight and/or help Eddie, who's run away from his heteronormative forced lifestyle? In either case, who would be the lap dog/right hand(s)/angry little purse chihuahua of a sidekick who utterly hates the new guy for getting in the way of his relationship? Or do you just...not have them be Stede and Blackbeard at all?

Buck, who is an established pirate, has done pirating before

He's sort of the one to frequently suggest mutiny against their captain (Bobby) until one day Bobby snaps at him and Buck's like "Oh, okay, I guess he can pirate"

but then

Bobby picks up an additional crew member

"What do we need him for?" Buck wants to know

Well, he's there to be Bobby's record keeper

at least that's the official reason

unofficially, Bobby has been made aware of Buck's not infrequent suggestions of mutiny thanks to his helmsman, Mr Chimney

(yes this means Chimney is Mr Buttons for this au I will not be accepting criticism at this time)

and so yeah, Bobby hired the new guy to be his chronicler, but also he hired him to like. distract Buck

Eddie listens to all of Buck's stories about being a pirate before he crewed up on the Revenge with a like knowing half-smile because there's just straight up no way Buck's actually done everything he claims to have done but he's always kinda cute in the telling of the stories

(Eddie does not know Bobby hired him as Buck!catnip)

(he also doesn't mind)

at some point, they encounter another pirate crew and it turns out -- to everyone's surprise -- that Buck has actually been telling just a little bit of the truth

also at some point, during a fuckery when they're trying to get one over on the English/Spanish/French/whoever Eddie, y'know, fully sells the bit of the haunted ship by deliriously chopping off his own finger? Everyone is confused when Buck helps -- competently -- nurse him back to health

no one is confused when they thenafter keep wandering into places like, idk, the larder, the ball room, the cargo hold, etc. and finding Buck and Eddie in compromising positions, although they are duly annoyed by it just a little.

but they're happy! and together! and get up to many, many pirate shenanigans

and bobby rescues buck from where he and chimney et al have been marooned and eddie is a competent swimmer and is just fine okay he's fine he's fine!!

does this au imply that athena is blackbeard? possibly. don't worry about it

A/N: As promised, here's the messy "rationale" and the melting pot of ideas i had for writing Stranded! Again, TAKE EVERYTHING WITH A GRAIN OF SALT bc i may be wrong with some of the mythology parts ✌😭✌

WHY DIONYSUS?

I get that Hoseok is mostly depicted as Apollo in these sorts of AUs, but Dionysus, man! DIONYSUS—Olympian god of wine, vegetation, pleasure, festivity, madness, and wild frenzy. 

I know it’s usually Jimin for this type of thing too, but at the time (when I made this series lol) it just screamed JUNG HO SEOK to me somehow, you feel?

Albeit, we all know how drunk Hoseok gets now (at the time I didn't lmao), I feel like since he'd be a god in this AU, he's bound to have greater alcohol tolerance 😅👌 BESIDES, Hobi would be all up on that dance floor! I just really thought that having him as Dionysus would be a nice change and it was v v fun (ToT)/~~~💖

Also, the love story of Dionysus and Ariadne gave me quite the uwu, so I thought I could add a bit more to the story for some cute shit 🥰

When it came to the whole sacrifice to the Minotaur thing though, I made a lot of shit up because some say that Athens had to bring tributes every 9 years, but some said it was every year??? (I AM CONFUSION 😭😭😭)

Anyways, to fit my fictional narrative (a.k.a her seeing the start of the downfall of her family), I had to do the some maths and vague research AHAHAHHA  i.e. searching how long it takes for a calf to turn into a bull (two years according to Google) bc Asterion started causing real trouble as he grew older lmao (he’s a beast raised to be a monster after all) + the fact that Theseus joined the third batch of the tributes to slay the Minotaur + Ariadne!Y/N being in her 20s???

I ended up settling for “every five years” (making Y/N 24-ish by the time she ran away, if Asterion the Minotaur was born when she was around 7 and he was locked up in the labyrinth when she was 9) 

ThIS WAS A WHOLE LOT OF WORK 👁👄👁

P.S. I was planning to have (Y/N) die, since it’s part of some version of myths abt Dionysus and Ariadne, but it felt like it would be a repeat of Yoongi’s story so uh… i just left her at a near-death experience 🤪🤪🤪 

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE MYTH?

Again, there are a lot of versions of this mythology.

With Ariadne’s upbringing, it was hard to get conclusive points??? All we know is that it’s in Crete, she’s a princess, her mom fucked a bull as a result of a divine curse, and her dad’s an all around j e r k LMAO I was also shocked to find out that the Minotaur had a name???? I kinda felt bad after ngl lmao 

AnyWAYS, several sources called Ariadne “mistress of the labyrinthe” (and that she might actually be a goddess too??) and that either way when Theseus came she fell hard like a SIMP ✋😭 She and her sister, Phaedra, both did, but it was Ariadne who helped Theseus with a thread (a clew) to let him know his way out of the labyrinthe after slaying the Minotaur (some sources say she was clever enough to do it on her own, but some say she asked Daedalus for help) 

Theseus, so glad that this chick is here to help him out, asks her to marry him once he returns successful, but some sources say that Ariadne asked him to. Another version also said that she asked him for marriage as protection since she's committing treason for helping him.

Either way, when the beast was slain, they obviously had to book it out of there before anyone could discover that they unalived the Minotaur. 

In Hesiod (and most of the other versions), Theseus abandons Ariadne on the island of Naxos after she had helped him and had fled Crete with him. Other accounts claim that Theseus was told (by Athena or Dionysus) to leave her there for the wine god as a sacrifice, because the island was Dionysus' territory. It was said in the Odyssey that Theseus had “no joy for her”, and had no issues with leaving her to Dionysus. Although, there are still some accounts that do depict him being distraught about the abandonment. Either way, he still left her there. 

So, with that, I had opted for the route of him being told to do it, but is still a jerk about it lol.

(This decision was fuelled by my utter anger for the myth where Theseus and his best bud, Pirithous, decided to kidnap daughters of Zeus to marry. Theseus chose to kidnap Helen of Troy, who was twelve at that time, and intended to keep her until she was old enough to marry—bLEGHH)

Theseus is a hero, yes, but he was still a bastard lmao (SO i went ham on making him the (sort of) villain in this story WHAHAH i am petty and biased, I'm so sorry)

Alas, his kidnapping of Helen of Troy seems to have happened long after his time with Ariadne, so as much as I wanted to trash on him, I couldn’t do so very much :DDDD

Phaedra (her sister), on the other hand, ended up being the queen of Athens because she was either abducted by Theseus or arranged for political marriage with him by their oldest brother King Deucalion (bc at this point, their dad, Minos, got murked in Sicily looking for Daedalus lol) She then proceeds to later get cursed to thirst after her stepson, Hippolytus :DDD 

Anyways, at Naxos, Dionysus saw Ariadne and fell in love with her, deciding to put a ring on it. Ariadne had many children with Dionysus and she was said to be faithful to him, but according to some myths, she killed herself because of Theseus before they get to meet??? Other versions say that she was killed—either by Perseus (with medusa’s head) or Artemis (at Dionysus' request?? Bc she and Theseus banged at a sacred grotto or cave or something—ig this is probs in the version where he doesn't love her yikes). 

Also, (in the myths where they are lovey dovey but Ariadne, for some reason, dies) Dionysus, after becoming a full-fledged god of Olympus, goes to the underworld  to get his mother and wifey back (sacrificing either a grapevine of his first love (Ampelos) or his thyrsus—this one's a bit unclear so I decided to omit it from the storyline lol) and went to Mount Olympus to be with her forevs. He also made her into a deity along with his mother, and then put her wedding crown to the sky as the constellation Corona Borealis!

Dionysus is a bastard of Zeus (a lot are LMAo) through his priestess Semele, and was the first god to be born a deity even with a mortal parent. He’s unwelcomed in Olympus though (mostly bc Hera is v v salty) and so he lived his life on Earth, at some point getting dismembered by Titans and/or going insane from a curse by Hera, and getting reborn because of the shit he goes through. He becomes the last god to enter Olympus after his cult fully establishes itself in Greece, and this part (I read) happens AFTER he met Ariadne (that’s why the plot is the way it is lol). This is also why there are sources that say Ariadne accompanied Dionysus in his travels, helping him spread his cult and influence. 

Also, also, the animals associated with him are panthers (leopard), tigers, bulls and serpents, and is often depicted as riding a leopard or a chariot drawn by leopards. (I made up the name Agrios though!)

This has been a rollercoaster and my head is pACKED Imma need to sit down whEW!!

Apollo is very protective of his sister but knows Athena is good for her. (He’s said multiple times that he’d be less enthusiastic if Athena was anyone else, but would obviously respect his sister’s decision)

Athena is surprisingly the more openly affectionate one between the two of them. She gives Artemis cute little cheek kisses all the time, and it’s just the cutest thing anyone has seen

They both love horror movies but mostly the understood cuddling aspect that comes with watching scary things together

Because of their competitive natures, both goddesses like to play games on opposite teams

The only really huge fight they’ve had is when Athena insulted Artemis by accident and was too proud to admit she was wrong, but they made up of course

They go to Pride every year. Aphrodite picks out their outfits so that the colors they wear are the lesbian flag colors

Their first kiss was in a Ferris wheel at the fair. It was a little unexpected for both of them but it was lovely!!

All Artemis’ huntresses love Athena. The archer goddess has told them to treat her gf with the same respect as they show her

They fall asleep/take naps together in the cutest positions

Neither are big on wearing jewelry, but when they need a piece, they borrow from each other since their tastes are similar

There’s that pressure again. Shannon pressuring Eddie to make a decision on what he wants, where she stands with him, all of it. I get it, Shannon, I do… But here’s that theme of Eddie always being pressured by people (like his parents and Shannon), and not giving him time.

Ohhhh okay so timeline wise, Shannon got pregnant and then she and Eddie got married. Shotgun wedding.

Yeah, I honestly think the two biggest reasons Eddie was attempting to try again with the marriage was 1) for Christopher’s sake and 2) Eddie feels it’s what he should do.

But of course Shannon asks for a divorce….after months of pressuring Eddie to let her back in. One the one hand, yeah I do think divorce was the healthiest option for both of them. One the other, sucky timing ma’am. Also? I never understood part of Shannon’s speech, when she’s asking for a divorce. Was she implying that she wants to take a step back (again) from being a mom to Christopher? I may have to ask this in a separate post because I think this will get lost in everything.

RIGHT after Shannon’s funeral Eddie’s parents are asking/pressuring Eddie to move back to El Paso. Not cool on so many levels. Thank goodness for Pepa and Abuela being there to support Eddie.

It always makes me cry when the bystanders run in to help lift the firetruck off Buck. Humanity. 🥺

When Hen says things are getting back to normal, yeah it gets to me with Eddie’s quiet “almost” in reference to Buck. He misses his best friend and partner.

Buck didn’t want to miss Eddie’s graduation. 🥺💕

Another big time reminder that being a firefighter is who Buck is.

At least Ali was upfront that she doesn’t think she can handle Buck's profession. Sucks, but them splitting up is for the best.

Hi I don’t watch 911 but I see all of these really sweet and wholesome posts about this buddie pair. Would you a) suggest watching it for reasons other than just their pairing and b) tell me some of the too pure interactions between them and just give me a sense of their relationship while simultaneously restoring my faith in humans ik thats a lot to ask but i think buddie can do it thanks :) 💖

Oh my goodness of course!!!

a) Yes, you absolutely should watch it. This show is fantastic and the whole cast is uber talented and wonderful. The writers and producers really know how to put together a good show. First off Angela Bassett and Peter Krause (Athena Grant and Bobby Nash are their characters) are both incredible and you have their relationship to look forward to, as they start dating at the end of season 1. Buck has a nice relationship with a woman named Abby (played by Connie Britton) in the first season. And Aisha Hinds (Hen Wilson on the show) is a lesbian and her wife Karen is adorable and they have a son! And last but not least, Howie “Chimney” Han (played by Kenneth Choi) is adorable and I would die for him. The first season is good, but it really picks up and gets so much better in the second season! That’s when Eddie is introduced and obviously with him comes his adorable son Christopher. Yes, you should absolutely watch this show, it’s an emotional rollercoaster but it’s amazing. 

b) A few soft interactions: 

First and foremost, the Christmas scene. So this was last year’s Christmas episode, but Buck and Eddie took Christopher to see Santa and at the end before they left, an elf who was working there told Buck “You two have an adorable son” and Buck just said “Thank you” and skipped away! Didn’t even correct her! 

Also there have been numerous times where Buck just looks at Eddie so softly and I’m like sir?? Are you good?? Probably not cause Eddie is so pretty, who wouldn’t look at him like that??

In the season 2 finale they had this cute awkward hug. I appreciated it because it was their first hug on screen.

Okay then shit really be gettin real for season 3! First episode right off the bat, the team is having a surprise party for Buck and the fuckin first thing he does is rush over to Eddie and give him a hug. I’m sure you’ve seen the gifs of this as they’re everywhere, but it’s literally so adorable and was 10x better than their first hug. And then later on in that episode, somehow Eddie shows up in Buck’s apt (he has a key maybe?) and is like “get up Chris wanted to hang out with his Buck today” 

In episode 2 we got to see a cute text and selfie of Buck and Chris sent to Eddie and an eagle-eyed fan here on tumblr figured out that Eddie’s contact picture for Buck is a picture of Buck and Christopher. fucking adorable

Alright the episode 3. The whole ending scene was absolute amazing Buddie vibes. Basically, Buck was doubting himself, but then Eddie was like “there is no one in this world I trust with my son more than you” and like wow???? and then Eddie touched him tenderly and looked at him softly and I burst into tears. Buck also referred to Eddie as his best friend in this episode, which we already knew pretty much but it was nice to hear him say it :)))

Um this got really long but yes you should watch the show!!!
