I’ve seen people talk about the main theme of the owl house being acceptance, and I think they’re completely right about that. But I haven’t really seen anyone look at the sub themes depicted in the show around the acceptance theme.
Specifically how the owl house is really advocating for child autonomy. Specifically in the ways of discipline, showing that communicating and talking with children ends up being a lot more beneficial and effective than punishing them.
The most obvious example comes with the collector, where instead of talking to him, King’s dad punished the kid by putting him in essentially time out, for the actions of his siblings. Which he would’ve learned if he had talked to the collector. And then following that, every interaction before talking with Luz, has the collector being used or placated in some way instead of being treated like an actual child due to the amount of power he has. The titan trappers revering him as some sort of god, Belos manipulating him, and even king attempting to appease the collector, instead of really talking to him. Though for king it’s a bit more understandable. Even so, the show showcases the collector’s change only after he’s talked to like a person, and then shown why his views were wrong.
Luz, who’s the main focus of the show, has her character arc and journey centered around being punished for her not fitting in at school. And while, yes, some of Luz’s antics that were shown seemed to be legitimately dangerous, the real solution would’ve been to talk with her and teach her about safety and why bringing wild animals and fireworks into a school building is dangerous. It should have also been that Luz should be able to talk and negotiate with her teacher about what would be acceptable for her projects with her endless creativity. The solution was not to essentially punish Luz for being creative, and what that only did was make her feel worse about herself and more isolated from the people she thought would be on her side. And then we were shown in thanks to them and for the future, Camilla’s growth into understanding that not talking to Luz about this, and essentially forcing her into normality, was not the way to go about things.
And we see this theme again, with Willow forced into the abomination track because her parent’s thought that was what was best for her, until she was able to showcase her skills and switch to what she was actually good at. Alador realizing he missed a lot of Amity’s growth by not talking to her, and then making it up to Amity by letting her set the boundaries and reestablishing their relationship. Odalia being controlling and not listening to her children which lead to actively harming their social development, until she was confronted and then shut out. Belos manipulating Hunter, isolating him, and abusing him, not even listening to what he had to say. And all of these situations were made better and more bearable when they were given the chance to take charge and be heard.
All this, in an attempt to showcase that children can be vulnerable and malleable, but they are also smart and understanding. And instead of deciding what a child needs, it’s important to communicate with the child instead, asking what they need and listening to what they’re saying. And implementing that by guiding and supporting them, not attempting to control them to what someone else thinks is right.
Children are smart and observant, they just need to be taught how to communicate, and viewed and thought of as actual human beings.
In a way, the owl house is attempting to advocate for it’s audience, and that’s beautiful.

Headcanons: The Owl House
In no particular order:
Luz and Camila took Amity, Hunter, Gus and Willow to Comic Con dressed like characters from Cosmic Frontier. They actually got to meet the creator(s) of Cosmic Frontier, who were very bemused by Gus and Hunter asking a multitude of questions and Gus’ warning about the giraffes. Luz and Amity got to hang out with fans of The Good Witch Azura.
After the Collector installed the new portal door, Jacob Hopkins managed to get out of jail and attempted to sneak into the house. The last anyone heard from Jacob, he was trying to set up an online fundraiser to get home from Mars (when he really was sent to a place called Quinhagak, Alaska.)
Months after Belos fell, Alador and Odalia divorced. Odalia tried to revive their original arms business, but it fell flat. Amity, Edric and Emira never spoke to her again.
Masha learned the truth about Vee and the Demon Realm. In fact, they’re one of the first humans to attend Gus’ Human Student Exchange Program.
Some sketchy ex-Coven Heads (the Potions Head, Terra, & Adrian) and Kikimora attempted to take over the Boiling Isles and replace the vacancy left by Belos. This was quickly thwarted by the B.A.T.T.s C.A.T.T.s and the Hexside squad and a thorough investigation and trial took place. Unsurprisingly, Odalia was also implicated in the plot because of the subpar Abomotons that were used. The plotters and Odalia were banished from the Boiling Isles and sent to Titan Trapper Island to live out their sentence. Kikimora worked out a plea deal and that’s how she was found working with Matt Tholomule to rebuild Bonesborough.
Eda and her dad have a better relationship these days, to Gwendolyn’s delight. Dell and Gwendolyn have also doted on King and Hunter. In fact, Eda was the one who introduced Hunter to Dell after Luz mentioned that Hunter wanted to learn how to carve Palismen.
A delegation was sent to Titan Trapper Island, and Bill is no longer the leader there. Tarak was appointed as the new leader and he promised that he and his people will not to go after the last Titan (King). It also helped that The Collector was included in that delegation to seal the deal and promised to build a portal between the two islands if the Titan Trappers behaved...and changed their way of dressing and the name of their island.
Lilith unlocked her harpy form the same way Eda did: with cookies made by Hooty. However, it wasn’t as “smooth” as Eda’s transformation, but with the help from Eda, Gwendolyn, and Camila, she was able to take control of her transformations. Hooty was also temporarily banned from the kitchen. Right after she managed this, Lilith showed off her transformation in front of Flora.
Luz told Eda what Papa Titan told her, and Eda felt honored. Though Eda was a bit offended about the Titan questioning her homemade apple blood recipe.
The Therapy Coven had never been busy after the fall of Belos. Hunter and Raine in particular spent some time with them because of the shared trauma of possession by Belos.
Hunter elected to stay with Darius, though he's always welcome with the Nocedas back in the Human Realm, with the Parks, the Blights (minus Odalia), Eda, and the senior Clawthornes.
Willow introduced Hunter to her dads after Hunter finished gushing about sewing and wolves with Darius and Eberwolf.
Boscha peaked in high school.
The Bat Queen sensed that there was something about Hunter, and Hunter told her about Flapjack’s sacrifice. After that talk, Hunter also became welcome in The Bat Queen’s forest.
Luz and Amity got more “mundane, slice-of-life dates”, both in the human realm and the demon realm.
The Collector visits King from time to time, and the Hexside squad learned to relax around them and teach them about how to approach people and play other games.
There was an attempt to introduce Camila to the food in the Boiling Isles. Suffice to say, she was only able to eat griffin eggs like Luz, though she found the animals there quite fascinating.
Viney and Jerbo eventually became friends again, to Barkus’ relief. (Barkus knew they would become friends, it was a matter of when.)
Principal Bump officially retired as Principal the following year. That was not the end of his love of education because he spent the next year to reach out to Glandus and St. Epiderm about revising their curriculum and offering multiple magic tracks.

Conspiracy Theories on the Boiling Isles
So, let's talk about conspiracy theorists in the aftermath of WAD.
Firstly, the only people that saw Belos in his monster form were the Hexsquad, Eda, Raine and King (+ the Collector).
(...Odalia saw him, but we don't know if she recognized him as Belos.)
That also means that they were the only people that could connect him to the green monster that overtook the isles in WAD. For everyone else, that was some unrelated thing that happened after the months under the Collectors "reign".
So, this part is very easy for the conspiracy theorists to dismiss. "Clearly, they just made this up to pin that event on Belos.)
The DOU is a bit more complicated, because Belos did gather most of the population in one place, where they were then trapped by an army of abomatons that belonged to the Emperor's Coven. And then the Coven Sigils almost killed everyone.
They can't just dismiss this, right?
"Well, those "CATs" were messing with the spell, so it's probably their fault it almost killed everyone. And when whatever they wanted to do didn't work, they blamed it all on the Emperor."
"And those Abomatons were built by Alador Blight. That guy seems pretty close with Darius, so they were probably working together."
"Right, I'm pretty sure all of them knew each other since Hexside. Seems like a big coincidence that so many of them were Coven Heads, doesn't it?"
And this is how the "Wild Witch Conspiracy", the idea that Belos was assassinated by a group of wild witches who then blamed him for the events after the DOU became a thing on the Boiling Isles.
...
I've also heard people speculate that somehow Raine is in charge of the B.I. now, and of course they replaced the Emperor's Castle with the Wild Magic University, which would only stoke the flames of such rumors.

To be fair, the whole mind reading thing with Belos in canon isn't necessarily unheard of, seeing how Odalia could do the same with her Oracle magic.
Then again, she specifically needed an enchanted amulet in order to communicate with Amity telepathically, so we're back to square one here.
i think i mentioned it before in the past, but belos's powerset is a little wonky, i'm not really convinced he wasn't rewritten between seasons because of some of these detials.
he has this artificial magic, something that is kinda neat and was a dead giveaway he wasn't a normal witch, but the show never really explains what artificial magic is and how it works exactly. Toh has rules for it's magic so it is a wonder exactly how one creates a "Fake magic" on the isles. (Like at one point they maybe imply it's coming from his arm glyphs but that doesn't explain his staff or hunter's staff)
Tumblr media
Collector claims he taught belos magic, but outside of the draining spell....we don't really know what he means by that specifically.
and then you have his curse, which is a whole mess in itself, he's got several abilities, some of which just kinda....happen. Not to mention the rules of his curse aren't really clear to an audience member who thinks about it in more detail, like how much control he has over the curse for example (He has scenes where he clearly has control but there are others where he clearly doesn't), or why he was cursed and for what reason, or if the palisman are an extension of life or just to keep the curse at bay (Maybe both? but why would he do this before even seeing caleb again?) ....and also....what the glyph arm is even about. Heck, i'm not quite sure why belos can talk to the palisman in his head, but hunter can't communicate with flap in his own if we're to believe both are being used for a similar purpose of giving the other magic and life. (I mean maybe you can say the fact Philip forced them to give up their lives puts them in some kinda limbo, and not flap who chose to move on, but Philip can also apparently remove them from his head so like-)
(I've heard a LOT of people go on about belos's curse being played for sympathy from the other characters, that he's faking it and it's another addition to how bad of a person he is. And i'm not saying he never faked it, he probably did in some of these scenes, but there's also a lot of scenes where he's clearly in pain and not in control of the curse, so it's clearly not something he's faking for sympathy all of the time. I get the impression this is just because the show really didn't do the greatest job making how his curse functioned clear to the audience that a lot of people are now convinced he was never in pain when he clearly was since he has scenes where it makes no sense to fake it.
Like my best interpretation that makes the most sense is he does have outbursts and he does get hurt but he takes advantage of them, weaponizing his own pain and curse to his benefit where possible)
Tumblr media
and then.....we got this power from season 1, which never comes back and is never explained. It could be arguably an oracle power, but oracle magic might be the most underexplored magic covens in the show next to healing, so i genuinely have no idea if that was the intent or even what oracle magic does in this world. I would think if it had use like this belos would use it more often, would of avoided a lot of future issues had he done so.
Tumblr media
This might sound a bit nitpickey, it's just i spent a lot of time trying to decipher his abilities to use in my work and i ran into a lot of walls trying to figure out how any of this works in the universe of the show.
he feels like he needs a character bible, there's just a lot here that doesn't quite make sense and i would of loved to have explained in better detail.
and the show usually (Mostly) makes sense with it's magic (Trust me, belos isn't the only character in this show whose magic abilities drive me nuts), i think eda's curse is actually well handled and well explained to the audience. You really understand how her curse works, how she controls and works with it, and it remains consistent in it's abilities.
belos just has way too many abilities, some of which just kinda happen, a lot that aren't entirely explained, and half the time i wonder why he never uses some of these powers at other points in the show.
this fact might not bother some people, but if you're someone trying to study his powers for your work, like me, it's really noticeable.
i think what happened is they needed belos to be able to do several things for plot reasons (He needs a fake magic to hide the human twist, he needs to possess hunter for reasons, he needs to pretend to be human for one scene at the end so now he suddenly can shapeshift, he needs to find out about luz stealing from him so sudden kinetic powers) and then it just became way too much.....i think they should of kept it simpler and less vague if you ask me.
the man has far too many abilities, and too little explanations for why he has them or how they work.
Having some proper limits to his powerset and being able to go from A to B To C on how he works would do miles for him.

The Collector(The Owl House) and Platonic! Reader...
but with a small detail.
Reader has a complicated family life, she comes from a family where she is constantly neglected (either due to family problems or simply her parents are like the Blights, too focused on their reputations to give her adequate attention) and that makes her a very dependent girl of her imagination but also quite lonely.
I think it would be especially sad if we are talking about a Blight Reader. since she sees her sibilings having interactions and friends while she cannot join because she is smaller and has problems socializing (': adding to that that she is too young for Odalia to give her a decent "use" to give her attention and Alador...it's Alador.
Imagine that JUST WHEN IT LOOKS LIKE THE END OF THE WORLD is when Reader ends up having something like a "friend."
If we go with the Blight reader, it is much more obvious how the reader and The Collector met, Odalia serving as his "mom" WOULD HAVE THE NERVE to offer the reader as a better playmate (trying to have favoritism) and leaves the reader reader alone with this child with god-like powers.
Now, reader didn't expect the collector to be so...innocent, he acted like a child her age, MAXIMUN. Besides that he was really interested in the game ideas she had to offer. For this reader to hear that someone is even willing to listen to what she wants to say is a MIRACLE, but putting it into practice and encouraging it? is this a dream?
They are both children extremely deprived of touch and interaction for a long time, so surprisingly, the reader ended up really enjoying her stay in the Archives with the collector and King, whether playing "the owl house" all together, board games that the reader invention, flying on the little flying stars, etc.
The reader definitely had a change of look just like King and Odalia, with a star-studded outfit and everything, although I think the collector lets her personalize it. and he definitely won't let Odalia intervene in the reader's clothes, with the excuse that her "suggestions" are too boring.
Tea parties with puppets! Yes, it's a bit creepy, but hey, they're better off there than down there with Belos (after what the reader secretly heard from her sister, he sounds like a bad guy). apart from the fact that low gravity is fun.
I think that one of the games that they could play the most could be a slightly more extreme version of "rescue the princess" where either a reader or a puppet is the "damsel in distress", King is the great Dragon and the Collector/reader are the knights. Don't worry though! Even if reader is who has to be the lady in distress, she will not be in real danger.
Although if the reader gets hurt (whether from playing or simply due to clumsiness) it means a DAY FREE FROM GAMES for everyone. Although they also play doctor and take care of the reader, maybe they play board games to avoid getting bored.
The Collector definitely feels jealous when Odalia tries to talk to the reader for any reason (probably to have a better position), and sometimes that causes him to give her more work like arranging the puppets they use when they play The Owl House (ironically this could make Odalia see what a bad mother she is being when she sees that a mini space god is better at her job than her).
Now there is no limit to the reader's creativity, no matter how silly or strange the idea for the new game is, he wants to hear it! He always has something positive to get out of even the "worst" ideas (for him that doesn't exist).
Sometimes he has trouble understanding which reader has to sleep and rest more than him and King, but they explain it to him with apples and pears and he more or less understands the concept of three meals a day and 8 hours of sleep (that was how easy it was, how difficult it was for King to explain to TWO CHILDREN why the reader SHOULD NOT eat only sweets).
I imagine that the reader sleeps in the same "room" as the Collector and King, in an extra bed and her own accessories. Maybe the reader even has stuffed animals of abominations (that remind her a little of her family) that she lends time to time to Collie (did you think she wouldn't use that nickname? ha) sometimes keeps them for herself because she's nostalgic, other times she's detached or even angry and gives them to him for several nights.
I can definitely see the Collector being pretty angry at the Blight siblings if he had gotten to know them in a different context, like "how dare you make my best friend CRY?" and it would definitely require a lot of hard work from King and the reader together so that he wouldn't "break" them out of rage.
King knows there's not much point in trying to convince the reader to help him in his plan against the collector, he understands where she's coming from, having someone who takes her seriously and motivates her is a dream come true! It is thanks to this that he sees the Collector more as a sad child and not as someone so terrifying..
After "Raine" lies to the Collector about King wanting to hurt him, he most likely also becomes clingier with the reader (and slightly more protective).
I can even see the reader teaming up with him when they play their "favorite games" against Eda, Luz and King, even if they coordinate well they can't help but lose in one way or another😅
The reader definitely empathizes a lot with the collector when he tells his story and how his brothers simply put him aside, causing him to be imprisoned, but she also begins to reflect and realize that, well, not everything is a game, but she wants them to be friends.
After the events of the season finale, you can be sure that the reader's family is trying SO hard to make up for the damage done (especially Amity and Alador) and that they are not so sure how to feel about the baby of the house being lost. she made friends with an almost god😅
Collie, now being PAINFULLY aware of the reader's mortality, is much gentler with the games when he comes to visit (especially because, well, you know, getting hurt when you're little isn't the same as when you're big) and in general they grow up. together to learn to accept more friends whenever they are:'3
AHHGGG I NEEDED THIS. Maybe I'll do a version with a father/mother! reader, we'll see.

Thinking more on it, I could see King and Odalia initially venting to each other about the Collector’s insane demands, albeit with King being a bit less vitriolic and dehumanizing in his description of the kid (because he himself is a kid and not a child abuser like Odalia, and likewise has a better understanding of the Collector). But as time goes on and King becomes closer to the Collector and more sympathetic, and is himself more valued by his new friend, Odalia sees an opportunity, like a shark sniffing blood in the water.
Obviously the Collector values King and his advice to a degree, so they’ve been listening and slowly adjusting their behavior according to King’s advice. And along the way, Odalia picks up on how to step around the Collector, figuring out their boundaries with King basically being her frontline guinea pig. And naturally, she approaches King one day with the suggestion that, hey, why don’t they team up to manipulate the Collector to do their own bidding? Odalia’s got the vision, King’s got the emotional closeness to them!
If this was S1 King, this could’ve totally happened; But King has matured a lot more since then, and he immediately shoots down the idea. He doesn’t want the Collector becoming even more of a threat and tyrant, whereas Odalia is just fine with that, so long as she can reap rewards from it (she’s just like Kikimora forreal, did she recognize a kindred soul hence the Abomatron gift?), so she insists. King refuses because he’s actually getting somewhere with the Collector and has no intention of being another Belos to them, plus he still knows what kind of person Odalia is like, he’s seen it firsthand and heard from Alador.
Tumblr media
So very quickly, what little kinship these two could’ve had as conscious beings under the Collector’s thumb wanes, as they have very different ideas on how to handle their relation to the kid and especially on the kid himself. King rebukes Odalia, but he doesn’t immediately tell the Collector to turn her into a puppet, because he’s matured and is a lot more merciful now. Even with Eda and Lilith to ‘replace’ Odalia as company, King is learning to respect people and their autonomy in general.
         Maybe he does warn the Collector of Odalia’s ambition, but also adds that they shouldn’t strip Odalia of free will either, just… tolerate, and apply authority lightly. The Collector is so endeared to King they agree. King does seem pitying towards Odalia when she’s saddled with a bunch of puppets to look after, thought that could just be him being perturbed at seeing people turned into props, rather than any concern for Odalia herself;
Tumblr media
Furthermore, this is Odalia we’re talking about, so despite being a former child she probably views kids themselves as like a wholly different species for her to navigate around and manipulate, rather than as people. She likely never even considered confiding in King’s presence as a mutual person they could be themselves around, and couldn’t appreciate him as anything more than an annoying brat. There would’ve only been resentful apathy or the opportunity to manipulate King, so as to manipulate the Collector indirectly through him. But as I said, King’s heard plenty from Alador and no doubt Luz as well. Possibly even Eda, since Eda knew Odalia in high school, though Odalia might not have been as horrid back then.
For all we know, King threw out the empty threat of having the Collector turn Odalia into a puppet, and she backed down; But after observing King from the side, she could tell that the Collector was becoming a lot softer, and that King didn’t REALLY mean it. King’s too nice for that, and by now has started to regard Odalia as more of a nuisance than an actual threat, hence Odalia openly suggesting conquest to the Collector right in front of him. She’s figured out she can get away with a lot more, even if fundamentally King and the Collector aren’t going to budge, and the Collector especially will still put their foot down and shouldn’t be pushed past that point.

writing request: after getting teleported to the human realm the hexside-squad cant sleep so luz makes hot coco as they all talk through what happened and who they miss
Hope you have fun with it! :)
Camila squeezed Luz tightly. “I’m just so happy you’re home.”
Luz sighed. She could feel the pressure from the hug, but not the usual warmth and safety that came from her mother’s embrace. “Yeah. I’m home. But they’re not.”
In bed that night, Luz stared at the top of the bunk bed, counting her glow-in-the-dark stars over and over and over. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw King hurtling away from her.
“Amity?” she whispered.
“Yeah?”
“You’re still awake.”
“Yeah. You, too.”
“And me,” Willow’s voice carried through the darkness.
Vee’s response was a snore from the top bunk.
Luz rolled out of bed. “Come on.”
She padded down the stairs, Amity and Willow behind her. Luz took out a pan and filled it with milk, stirring cinnamon and chocolate in once it was heated on the stone. She poured the hot chocolate into five mugs, handing 2 of them to Amity and Willow and scooping up the remaining three between her hands. “C’mon.”
She started down the basement stairs, then bumped into someone halfway down.
“Oof.”
“You okay, Gus?” Hunter’s voice murmured from behind the roadblock. “Luz? Is that you?”
“Yeah,” Luz whispered, “Looks like we all had the same idea.”
“Okay. Uh…”
Luz heard Hunter fumbling along the wall, and then the basement light turned on. The five of them tiptoed down the stairs. Gus and Willow claimed the couch, and Hunter, Amity, and Willow all curled up on the floor. Luz handed the remaining mugs to Hunter and Gus, and the only sounds for the next few minutes were sipping and gulping.
Luz broke the semi-silence with a sigh. “All that, and I didn’t even… I wasn’t even able to get to Eda to warn her. King’s with the Collector, and I don’t even know what happened… what happened with…”
Everyone else glanced at each other, and Amity took Luz’s hand. “We… we saw her.”
“You saw her?!” Luz jumped up. “Was she okay?”
Amity tugged on her hand, making her sit back down. “She was… not doing well,” Amity admitted.
“No one on the isles was!” Hunter said quickly, “The draining spell, it was affecting everyone, and they… everyone was down. But it’s fine now, she’s probably fine, because… the collector… stopped…” He fell silent and went back to sipping his cocoa.
Raine will take care of her.
They promised.
“It all happened so fast,” Gus whispered, “It was… we were at the Blights’, and then we were at the sigil, then the head, and now we’re here, and I… I can barely piece it all together.”
“That gets better,” Hunter mumbled.
“What?”
He cleared his throat. “The… fuzziness. Where everything happened so fast, and you can’t really remember. If you give it time, you’ll be able to process it all, and… mostly, anyway.”
Gus curled his knees up to his chest. “I don’t know if I want to process it. It was… a lot. I saw a lot.”
He gave Hunter a meaningful look when he said that, one Luz wasn’t quite sure how to interpret. She gripped her mug tighter.
“I hope my dads are okay,” Willow murmured.
“We left Ed and Em in the mansion,” Amity said shakily, “They didn’t even know, we didn’t tell them anything, we had to go right away to get to you in time.”
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I…” Luz buried her head in her arms. “I wanted to warn Eda so bad, and I wanted to keep Hunter safe, but it didn’t even matter in the end, did it? I couldn’t get to her, I couldn’t get past Belos. And you guys… came to get me anyway.” Her voice cracked, and she sniffed. “You were put right into the line of fire. I worried all of you, and for nothing.”
“No, not nothing,” Amity murmured, brushing hair out of Luz’s face, “You got a brand on Belos, backed him into a corner. And you kept him from getting away into the human realm.”
“And you did save me,” Hunter piped up, “If Kikimora had taken me instead of you… Belos wouldn’t have wasted time on words.”
“We would have gone with you anyway,” Willow piped up.
“Yeah!” Gus agreed, “You should know by now that we’ll always go right into the worst of it with you. There’s no stopping us. Might as well give up trying.”
Luz wiped her eyes. “Thanks, guys. I just… you’re all trapped here, now, away from all of your families, and we don’t know what’s happening, and… and you don’t have a way back.”
“But we’ll find one, right?” Amity piped up, “We’ll find a way.”
Luz gave her a small smile. “Yeah. Of course we will. Of course.”
Somehow.

Stepping Stones: Chapter 4
The first order of business upon their return to the Owl House is names.
Alador, Perry, Harvey, and Gilbert left to assess the state of their houses, but their children remained, and Vee’s siblings were understandably confused when they race out the door calling her a name they’d never heard. An explanation followed on the concept of roman numerals, and while One, Two, and Three weren’t very taken with them— understandably— Four tried on the name Ivy and decided that she liked it.
One and Three went with homonyms, Wynne and Rhee, respectively; but Two took a while to decide. They went through words for two in Spanish, Italian, French, through all the vaguely plausible names they could think of, before Luz suggested Gemini— meaning “twin”— and it stuck.
With that debate settled, they headed inside, and now Luz and her friends sit at the kitchen table listening to the basilisks exchange stories as Raine cooks dinner under King’s barked orders and Camila, Eda, Lilith, and Hooty sort through the rest of the food. Luz’s chest aches as she watches the faces of Vee’s siblings as Vee talks about Camila, the envy in their eyes rolling a lump into her throat. It isn’t guilt, not anymore— she just wishes she could have opened the portal sooner, could have taken these kids away from Belos years ago and gotten them a home with all the love they could ask for. When the adults come in to eat and Camila catches her eye, Luz realizes she’s thinking the exact same thing.
“As soon as I was returned to normal, I knew I had to go back for O— Wynne and Gemini,” Rhee says, concluding their story of the last few months.
“I had the same idea,” Ivy adds. “We met up halfway to the Conformatorium. We figured we’d get the others and then try to find Vee and then… well, we didn’t really have a plan.”
“We still don’t,” Gemini points out. She glances hopefully at Camila. “Unless… we could stay with you?”
Camila opens her mouth and closes it, and the pain in Luz’s heart expands, because she knows that what she wants to say and what she has to are two different things.
“I’m sorry,” Camila says, shaking her head. “But I just don’t have the means to take care of you all. I could do it for Luz’s friends, for a few months, but I was scraping to get by. I couldn’t give all of you the home you deserve.”
“Well,” Eda says slowly, “maybe I can.”
Vee’s siblings all turn to her.
She gives them a small grin. “The Owl House isn’t usually this full,” she tells them. “With Luz staying in the Human Realm, it’s going to feel pretty empty. I’d be happy to have some company.”
The silence at the table is as loud as a scream before Amity turns to Camila. “You’re not really still holding her to that.”
“Of course not!” Camila cries. “Mija, please—“
“Wait— you’re going to stay in the Human Realm? Forever?” Willow demands. “Is this still about the Collector?”
“Wait, what about the Collector?” Edric asks.
“Luz is the one who introduced Belos to him,” Amity tells him. “She thought he was just a human at the time.”
Luz draws in a breath, now a little desperate to get a word in edgewise, but Hunter cuts her off with a growl.
“How many times do we have to go over this?” he demands. “Belos would have found the Collector even if you didn’t help him, it was his whole mission!”
“And if you hadn’t come here,” Eda adds, “there would have been no one to learn the Titan’s magic and use it to defeat him—“
“I know,” Luz blurts.
For a second, she’s grateful for the silence, and then her heart starts hammering so hard under everyones attention she wonders if she’ll be able to say anything at all. She takes several deep breaths— and feels Amity take her hand.
“When King’s dad asked me to take his powers,” Luz says, looking down, “I almost didn’t. I just thought— what if I mess up again? Who am I to have all this power? But then I thought, well, I can’t change the mistake I made. But I can stop it from getting worse. Hiding myself away… it wouldn’t fix anything. I know that now.”
Amity squeezes her hand, and Luz feels another hand on her shoulder. She looks up to find Lilith smiling at her.
“You’re a much wiser witch than I was at your age,” she says. “And do you really think you’re the only one here who has to live with a mistake? I helped Belos meet the Collector too, Luz. Before that, I helped him recruit people to the covens. And before that, I cursed my sister to further my own ambitions. I’ve considered more times than I can count just stepping away before I can do any more damage. But that would just be a waste, wouldn’t it?”
“Isolation is tempting,” Eda agrees, glancing at Raine. “But it isn’t the right answer.”
“I know. I know that now.” Luz takes a deep breath and turns to her mom. “Mamá… is it okay for me to keep coming here?”
“Luz.” Camila reaches across the table and gently takes her hands, waiting for Luz to look at her before she speaks. “If you didn’t come back to visit, I would throw you through that portal myself.”
Luz lets out a watery laugh.
“When I asked you to stay with me… I was so scared, Luz. I had no idea where you were and what you were facing, no idea if you’d ever come home. If you wanted to. But this place isn’t… well, okay, it is as dangerous as I imagined. But you’ve flourished here anyway, and you found a family, and friends. I would never take you from that.”
Luz lets go of her hand to wipe her eyes. “Thanks, Mom.”
Camila sighs. “But, Luz… I still want you with me. I missed you so much while you were away—“
“Me too,” Luz says quickly. “And even though I’ll be visiting the Isles all the time, it’s not the right place for me to stay right now. I still need to finish school. People would wonder if I just disappeared.”
“We-ell,” Vee says slowly.
“I’m not making you pretend to be me again!”
Vee smiles. “Oh, good. I’m not sure I was up for that.”
Camila puts a hand on her shoulder. “You’re welcome to stay with me too, mija. Six kids I don’t have the resources for, but I’d be happy to take you in.” She looks at Hunter. “You too, Hunter. Three will be a stretch, but I’m sure we can make it work.”
Hunter’s eyes light up, but his face is still. “I’d like that to start, but… I don’t really think I’d fit in for very long. I’ve seen Luz’s homework. It’s incomprehensible. Anyone in her school would spot me as a witch a mile away.”
Luz bites her lip and nods.
“It’s not so hard,” Vee assures him. “I spent most of the summer studying it in case I had to go to school as Luz. I could help you out.”
“Thanks, but… now that I have Flapjack’s power, I’d like to try to learn more magic, if I could.” Hunter glances at Darius. “Do you think I could enroll in Hexside without a guardian?”
Eda laughs out loud. “Kid, you have more guardians than you’ll know what to do with.”
A smile spreads over Hunter’s face as he turns to Camila. “Is it okay if I stay with you until then?”
“Of course!” She crosses the table to hug him, and his eyes well with tears. Seeming to sense it, she holds him tighter for a long moment before ruffling his hair and stepping back, turning to look at Vee.
“What about you, Vee?”
“I’d like to stay with you,” she says immediately. Glancing at her siblings, she adds, “I promise I’ll visit you all the time, but I still feel more at home in the Human Realm. Is that okay?”
“Anything is okay,” Wynne promises, wrapping an arm around her. “As long as you’re happy.”
“We’ll need to figure out what to do with putting you through school,” Camila says thoughtfully. “I wouldn’t have time to homeschool, but you’d need at least a birth certificate to enroll in Gravesfield High…”
Eda waves a hand. “Oh, I can easily arrange that. Would you like some adoption papers while I’m at it?”
Vee and Camila look at each other. Camila smiles. Vee bursts into tears.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” Eda says, standing up. “Come on, you two, I’ll need your help to make it look authentic. Wynne, Gemini, Rhee, Ivy— why don’t you four come too? I can give you a tour, and you can pick where you want to sleep.”
Camila and the basilisks follow her out, and Raine, Darius, Lilith, and King start to clean up dinner. Amity tugs on Luz’s hand, and Luz glances at her to find her face serious. “Luz,” she says. “Can we talk?”
A pang of anxiety courses through Luz’s stomach, but she nods. “Of course.”
To her surprise, Willow, Gus, and Hunter all stand as well, and she follows them out of the kitchen, trying to reassure herself with the feeling of Amity’s hand in hers. When they get outside, Amity turns and takes her other hand.
“Luz,” she says, “we’re worried about you.”
“I promise, I’m not going to stay in the Human Realm—“
“It’s not just that,” Willow interrupts. “We were aware when the Collector was puppeting us, you know. He made us say horrible things, and you believed them.”
“You believed I was going to attack you,” Amity says, “more than you believed I would misquote Azura.”
“You would never misquote Azura.”
“Luz!”
“Okay, okay.” Luz smiles, but it fades quickly. “It’s not that I believed any of you would say any of that, not really. It’s just… I believed I deserved to hear it. I did separate you from your families. I did take you out of your lives. I couldn’t save Flapjack, I didn’t know how to save the people you loved, so it made sense to me that you’d be mad about it.”
“Here’s the thing, Luz.” Amity sits down, lowering Luz with her, and the others follow. “Even if you didn’t know how to save anyone, even if we’d never found a way back home— I would still be glad I met you. My life before you was a disaster. I was horrible, to myself and everyone around me. On purpose. If Willow and Gus can forgive me for that, why would we ever be mad at you for things that weren’t even your fault?”
“If you hadn’t come to the Isles, I would never have gotten Amity back as a friend,” Willow confirms. “I probably wouldn’t have gotten out of the Abomination track. I might never have known how strong I could be.”
“And I would have kept helping Belos— on purpose, not by accident,” Hunter says quietly. “Until he drained my magic on the Day of Unity, or until I figured out what he was doing and became just another failed attempt.”
There’s a long silence as Luz chokes back her tears, basking in the warmth in her chest after months of frost, until Gus shrugs and says, “without you, I would never have seen a giraffe.”
The moment breaks as they all laugh, crawling together into one knot, and Luz cries openly, the relief too much for her to hold inside. When they finally pull back, Amity wipes away one tear and kisses away the other, then moves to whisper in Luz’s ear.
“I love you.”
Luz gasps as she pulls back, heat sweeping through her face— and then she throws her arms around her, burying her face in her shoulder.
“I love you, too.”
They stay like that for another long moment before a yell comes from inside. “Luz!” Vee calls. “Come see!”
Amity pulls back, cheeks flushed, grinning at Luz as she pulls her to her feet, and the two of them race back through the door with Willow, Gus, and Hunter close behind to find Vee in the living room waving a pile of papers. Luz scurries over and snatches them from her hands, her eyes zeroing in on two words.
Vee Noceda.
Vee Noceda!
“I have a sister, I have a sister!” she sings, grabbing Vee’s hands and twirling her in a circle as Vee laughs and laughs, tears streaming freely down her face, until Camila swoops in and gathers them both into her arms. “My precious daughters, my wonderful daughters,” she murmurs, kissing both their heads.
Luz looks up from the tangle of their limbs to find Willow nudging a red-faced Amity as Gus laughs; to see the basilisks looking around the room with grins on their faces; to see Eda and her father in close conversation with Hunter, showing him what appears to be a tiny palistrom seed. It’s a perfect picture, and Luz closes her eyes, trying to etch it into her mind. At the beginning of all this, she would have called it her happy ending, but she knows better now.
This is just a very exciting beginning.

hm luz definitely heard the collector’s ENTIRE tantrum in king’s tide from kikimora’s bubble. notably when he said he “taught [belos] magic stronger than anybody’s” and also showed him the draining spell. luz had no idea what the collector could do before that. her guilt at helping belos before king’s tide felt like it mostly came from showing him the light glyph and the general betrayal of looking up to phillip all season only to find out he’s an asshole and also belos.
but in season 3 luz knows that the collector was the reason belos could do the day of unity stuff in the first place. and because she helped him, she assigns herself all of that blame as well. and that knowledge in addition to stress from the day of unity was why she took a nosedive from impulsive and people-pleasing but still upbeat straight into crippling depression. and also disregarded eda’s “my life is great bc im friends with luz the human” speech from separate tides.
i wonder if luz told her friends anything that happened during her confrontation with belos before they arrived. she definitely didn’t tell amity willow and gus about the stuff collector said but i wonder if she told hunter about it, since he already knows about the collector thing. i doubt she did bc he didn’t have any reason to need to know and luz certainly doesn’t like to talk about it.
also im pretty sure luz never told her friends about the whole petrification thing? and the sigil thing. the petrification thing because again, i doubt she wants to think about it or worry her friends and there’s no need for the others to know. the thing with luz giving belos a sigil because for all she knows she just made him MORE angry. luz wasn’t there when kikimora told king belos couldn’t stop the draining spell. as far as luz knows belos COULD have stopped the spell but the sigil just made him panic long enough for king to find the collector to do it instead. add that one to the pile, i guess.

Looking out for Hunter
Eda pulls Camila and Darius to the side after Belos' defeat to figure out where Hunter should stay. Since they are his unofficial family now.
Warnings: referenced child abuse (that occurred before the story)
Let me know if I missed anything
Word count: 1454
Notes: Inspired by how I've seen different mentions of who is Hunter's family now.
There was a lot going on after the defeat of Belos. The collector had a lot to fix after his games. But Eda pulled Darius and Luz’s mom to the side for something they needed to discuss.
“Hey, I’m sure we’re all tired from everything that has happened with Belos and the collector. Before we all disperse though, There’s something important we need to figure out.”
Luz’s Mom and Darius glanced at each other and then at Eda in confusion. Which made sense considering they didn’t really know each other. Probably wondering what they could possibly have in common that Eda would need to talk with both of them.
“So, one thing that needs to be taken care of before the end of the day, is that a boy needs a place to stay. Seeing as he no longer has an official guardian now that his evil uncle has been defeated.”
Their eyes widen in realization.
“I don’t know where Hunter went after he fled my house, but I’m going to assume it wasn’t back to the castle. Given his reaction to learning the truth about Belos. Somehow I get the feeling it was not the best living arrangement. Now, from what I’ve heard, you two could both be potential guardians, along with myself. So, what were we thinking?”
They thought for a moment.
“Well,” Luz’s mom said, “He is always welcome at my home, of course.”
Darius huffed, “If I’m being honest, I had already assumed he would be staying with me.”
“Oh really?” Eda asked. “Why’s that?”
Darius shrugged. “I don’t know, maybe because I was the closest to a safe adult he had in the castle. I’m fairly certain I’ve known him longer.”
Eda hmmed.
“I did try to offer him a place to stay before when he first said he couldn’t go back to Belos. But he was still freaking out about what he learned in the emperor’s mind at that point. So I don’t really blame him for not understanding the offer at first, even if I was worried.”
“What he learned in the emperor’s mind?” Luz’s mom asked.
“I also know,” Eda continued, not really acknowledging the question,
“That Hunter stayed with Luz’s mom here when they were stuck in the human realm for a while. It’s also pretty easy to tell all those kids are fond of you.”
“You can call me Camila, and I’m glad to hear that. They’re good kids, even if I don’t always understand some of their eccentricities from this world. They remind me of Luz a lot in some ways.”
Eda nodded, not too surprised by that.
“So,” Eda continued, “Given we all may hold some sort of parental role for this kid, should we like share custody or something? And like, who is best for him to stay with? Not saying you’re not a good fit Darius, I just thought we should discuss this since we all want to look out for him.”
Darius hmmed.
“I hadn’t thought about it in an official sense if I’m being honest. More so just being there for him and making sure he has somewhere safe he can go to.”
Eda nodded. “That’s fair enough. The only reason I even brought it up is because I could tell it was a thought we all considered.”
Camila cleared her throat.
“It’s probably best to ask Hunter where he wants to go,” She said.
Eda paused and nodded.
“You’re right. He gets a say in where he goes. It’s the least he deserves after the way the poor kid grew up.”
She looked to the side, “Hey Hunter!”
Hunter froze, having been talking to some of his friends. Then he turned to face her.
“Can you come over here for a sec? We wanna talk about something with you.”
Hunter’s eyes widen.
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing bad,” Eda said, voice a bit gentler.
Hunter still looked concerned, but he cautiously made his way over to them. Camila and Darius both shoot him encouraging smiles to help reassure him.
“We were just wondering where you would want to stay,” Eda said, “Since your old residence is probably not an option anymore.” She then winced, realizing that may not have been the most sensitive way to put it.
“All three of us are willing to have you stay with us, so it’s up to you where you want to go.”
Hunter pursed his lips and looked between the three of them still seeming nervous.
“Hey,” Eda began, bending down to be more at his level.
“Whatever you chose, none of us are going to be mad at you.” She didn’t actually know that, but she knew they all cared about him, so hopefully it was true.
“Your wants about this are important,” Eda continued.
Hunter didn’t seem entirely sure about that. Which Eda had expected at this point, unfortunately.
“We will also still be there for you no matter what, in any way you need,” Camila added.
Hunter shuffled a bit and bent his head down.
“I uh,” He continued, glancing at each of them often even with his head bowed.
“I want to live in the world I grew up in.”
Camila nodded and also knelt down.
“Oh, that’s alright mijo. That is perfectly understandable. Just know you can always visit as much as you want. You are always welcome.”
Hunter nodded and smiled a little.
“Thank you,” he said a bit quietly.
“Of course. May I hug you?”
Hunter blinked and then nodded slowly.
Camila smiled and then opened her arms. She waited a moment to make sure he was ready before she came forward and wrapped her arms around him
Hunter gasped, seeming just as surprised as the first time he was hugged. He then moved his arms with a slow robotic clumsiness to hug her back. After a moment some tension melted and he leaned into her embrace.
Hunter was probably going to get a lot more hugs now. Good.
Hunter sniffed and wiped his face some when they separated.
“So, who do you want to stay with then?” Eda asked again. Hunter still seemed distraught about answering that, looking between Darius and Eda.
“I-I don’t know.” Hunter fidgeted some.
“I just, I grew up being told and constantly reminded of how Belos saved me and I owed pretty much everything to him. Like it was more of an obligation.”
Sometimes Eda forgot that her rage against that monster Belos could come back. Even when she had curb-stomped him into the ground.
“And now not only one but three of you are offering this and seems like you actually want me there to take care of. Not just to use as a future guard or servant. I don’t want to chance this offer going away at all. And I’m not saying you guys would lie about this or anything. I’m just not used to this care for me as myself. I’m so afraid I’m going to mess this up.”
Camilla cooed at that.
“We’re not going to take away our offers to take care of you,” Eda said.
“And even if we did, for housing, it wouldn’t be because anyone suddenly decided you weren’t worth caring for anymore.”
Darius gave her a look at that.
“Yeah, I could have said that better,” Eda admitted, “but I wanted to make sure he knew that.”
“It’s okay if you don’t know what you want,” Camila said, “I’m sure this can seem like a big decision.”
How was Camila so good at this? That’s what Eda was wondering.
“How about we start with where you’d want to go tonight?” Camila asked. Hunter nodded, relaxing slightly.
“I’m not sure if this is going to make sense, but part of me wants to have as close to normalcy as I can, but without the awful stuff. The Owl house seems cool, and I definitely want to come back sometime, but it’s also wild. Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course! I’m just uh, not used to it? So,” He turned to Darius,
“If you really are offering, I think I’d like to stay with you tonight. You’re the only one I really knew in the castle who eventually treated me better, and not like you had to obey me.”
Darius smiled at him.
“Of course, you can stay with me, Hunter,” He reached over and ruffled Hunter’s hair.
Hunter squawked and half-heartedly pushed at Darius’ hands to get off of his hair. They both ended up laughing though.
It wasn’t a normal unofficial family dynamic by any means. But as long as this great kid got shown the love they all knew he needed, it didn’t really matter.

What needs to happen in season 3 of the owl house part A
The owl house is entering its third and final season. Season 3 will consist of three 44 minute specials (I think. I heard a rumor that fan outrage forced Disney to lengthen the specials to 55minutes). Season 2 ended with the characters kinda spilt into three groups. Luz and her friends henceforth called "The Hexside gang" are trapped in the human realm. The adult CATTs members are back home on the boiling isles out of one apocalypse and straight into another, and King is trapped as the collectors playmate in what ever "owl house" he has made. I am imagining that each special will follow one of these three groups adventures as they all try to reunite.
Here is what I need to see happen with the Hexside gang.
Confirmation that their palismans came to the human realm with them. These kids have lost way to much already, give them their pets.
Give them all cute new human realm outfits
Make some pancakes
More of Camila and Luz interacting now that Luz is back with her original mom.
Do that kind of like how Amphibia did. Anne's parents came around to the Planters and Amphibia because going there helped Anne learn to be more outspoken, and more responsible in her actions. This show started with Camila being concerned with how overly impulsive Luz can act, and how she had no friends as a result. She has gotten a lot more focused and improved her social skills tremendously on the BI. That is probably what could make Camila see it as a good place.
Luz and Vee interacting together now that they are basically sisters. With Luz back will Vee change her human form much or will she and Luz go with the "yeah this is my twin" take?
Camila and Amity interacting and bonding. Preferably Camila bonding with all of Luz's friends, but if we are in a time crunch then at least her girlfriend.
Hunter and Flapjack discovering Caleb’s statue in Gravesfeild.
Confirmation on if Gus saw into Belos memories of Caleb and if he now knows Hunter is a grimwalker clone. It doesn’t have to be a big reveal. Just like have Gus be a bit more shaky and cling to Hunter a little bit more, so he can be sure Hunter is not going to disappear
Bonus points if Hunter at some point tells Gus that he does not mind him staying close to him if that’s what Gus needs, but to please not try and grab/hold his hand or anything because Hunter has a thing about people doing that. Really he seems to hate that so far in the show and while i do not need that explained (If he doesn’t like it, then he just does not like it). I would like it confirmed/acknowledged.
Take these kids to the Zoo
Let Gus see a giraffe. Tell me why giraffes where banished from the demon realm.... What are your powers Giraffes?
Give me Luz and Amity sharing a big stick of cotton candy
have Willow and Hunter looking at some human flowers there when a lady bug comes out of one and fly’s towards Willow, which scares her and causes her to run into Hunter. Hunter (pleased) makes a big show of scaring it off for her.
show everyone being scared for there families back on the Boiling Isles (they don’t even know if they are alive or not) and desperate to go back and rescue them.
I want Gus to see a reporter on the T.V. who reminds him of his dad. Willow to be learning some human dish with Camila then sadly remark how back home she always helped her dads with dinner. Have Hunter either fix up their ripped cloths or searching the web for clues on how to get back, then he remembers Darius teaching him how to sew and use penstagram. Give me Amity trying to pick out a pair of gloves, spotting two teens acting goofy near by, and trying not to break down with worry for her dad and siblings.
As for Luz we know she has pictures/video’s of Eda and King, and probably Lilith too, on her phone. I want her to treat those like she treated pictures of Camila. have look at the pictures as she lays down, talks to the pictures about how she is okay, that she misses them, and to hang on because she is coming back to help them.
We do need Luz’s egg to hatch.
I cannot decide if I want whatever is left of Phillip/Belos to be revealed and beaten in this special or kept a secret until the final when they are all back together.
have Camila and Vee step onto the isles at least temporary (have them move there with Luz) to reunite the witch kids with their families and say good byes (never say good bye).

Ah, that’s not a terrifying image or anything.
After Gus is on edge and Hunter is sad for a bit, Hunter notices plant tendrils beginning to grab him. In the distance, he hears Gus yelping, and he runs over to find… this.
Willow stands here, surrounded by and tangled in her own plants, having snared Gus when he startled her.
Between this and the previous batch of posts, I got an ask that mentioned how Willow beginning to lose control over her magic is similar to how we saw Belos in season two lose control over his body and lash out violently. And you know what? With this image here, I can totally see the similarities. The glowing eyes and the vines acting similar to the tentacles Philip’s arms would morph into… perhaps not the greatest imagery for Hunter to encounter.
Tumblr media
Even though she keeps telling herself ”I can do this! I can do this!” Willow quickly gives up on using her magic to gain control over her plants, instead ripping them apart with her bare hands. A subtle indication that she doesn’t believe her own words.
Before she knows it, she finds herself alone in the caverns, her friends consumed by the very same plants she would use to protect them. In some ways, that would be the ultimate failure for someone like Willow, who has very much been a protector of the group.
(maybe Willow’s magic is trying to protect Gus & Hunter by enclosing them in these cocoons? just a thought)
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, back at Tiara Halls, The Collector is not taking ”Raine’s” warnings very seriously. An expected reaction, the baddest dude around before The Collector showed up got smeared on a  wall by The Collector. Good thing too, that guy was a jerk, I’m glad he’s gone. Isn’t that right, Raine?
(i swear, getting a screenshot where the collector didn’t look awkward never needed to be this difficult. as you can see, i gave up)
Tumblr media
(i watched a few seconds further than this screenshot implies, I just wanted one where everyone was in frame)
Lore!
As it turns out, Titan magic can cancel out Collector magic, which is probably why our own Lord of the Fireflies was never able to get out of the divine time-out on his own. Secondly, it’s confirmed that The Collector’s ”predecessors” wiped out the Titans, just like I theorized earlier.
The Collectors have a very prominent space motif, with stars and moons and planets and whatnot. They’re from space (and remember, anything can happen in space!). They have this sort of… what’s the word I’m looking for… detached vibe, I guess. I mean, The Collector floats around because gravity doesn’t bother them, they seem unaware how their actions affect others, they don’t even understand the concept of food and what mortals can and cannot eat.
Titans on the other hand, appear as these massive, primordial life forms, whose corpses become islands. While The Collectors become upset when the mortals interfere with their work and will go as far as to wipe them out for it, King’s Dad’s body provides a home and magic power for countless mortal creatures. The Titans appear to be part of the bizarre ecology of the Boiling Seas planet. They put the ”mega” in ”megafauna.”
Even looking at their designs, the Collectors are humanoid (kinda) with these smooth, sleek designs. Meanwhile, the Titans are big, monstrous beasts, covered in fur and bone, with sharp teeth and horns. Collectors wander space, while the Titans are bound to this one planet (even if their blood does pierce dimensions).
I’m not sure how well I’m communicating my thoughts here, but the thing I’m trying to say is that if you look at the imagery and motifs surrounding the Titans vs. The Collectors, it makes sense they would cancel each other out. They’re basically each other’s opposites.
Tumblr media
You know, when I first heard the expression "talk through one's hat" I didn't think it'd be quite so literal.
Oh well, I'm glad we cleared up that misunderstanding. King’s not gonna seal The Collector away again, they’re best buds!
…cue things going horribly wrong in three, two, one…

I'm curious, how do you think Alador X Darius happened/would happen?
So, I like to think that Darius always had feelings for Alador when they went to Hexside until they had their falling out and stopped talking to each other.
During that time, Odalia and Alador started dating which made Darius not only jealous but also believe that Alador was straight, so Darius thought that he had a crush on someone who wasn't ever going to feel the same way about him which did hurt a lot.
Little did Darius know, Alador was actually bisexual(or pansexual) and did have feelings for him but when they had their falling out, Alador thought that Darius hated him, so he started spending more time with Odalia and started to gain feelings for her which after a while, she asked him out and he said yes.
Alador did at one point try to mend things with Darius but it caused the two to break out into a fight that ended with Darius accidently saying something to Alador which was very hurtful to him and made him walk away hurt and Darius, ashamed by how he acted but not knowing how to apologize(a hc of mine is that Darius has a hard time with apologizes because he doesn't know how to do it in a way that lets the other person know that he was being genuine), just leaves Alador alone as he didn't want to make the situation worse.
After the two graduated from Hexside and became a part of the Abomination coven, Darius went on to train to become the most powerful Abomination coven member while being mentored by the (then) golden guard, while Alador inhered his family's businesses and his and Odalia's relationship grow to where they got married which Alador, in an effort to make some kind of amends with Darius, invited him but around this time, Darius was on his way to becoming the new abomination coven head and was also dealing with the loss of his mentor which either Darius was told had died or Darius saw what happened to them so he didn't attend the wedding which made Alador think that Darius was being petty(while secretly being very hurt by the fact that Darius didn’t come like he had hoped).
Then after the whole thing with the Day of Unity and the Collector as well as Alador and Odalia getting a divorce happened, Hunter went to go stay at the owl house after Eda had asked if he wanted to live with her and Raine(Yes, they’re married because they deserve to be happy together. Sorry, I don’t make the rules), pretty much beating Darius to it but he would go to visit Hunter every so often.
On one of those days that he went to go visit Hunter, Alador was there to get to know Luz and Hunter more as Luz is dating Amity and Hunter is dating Edric(which Alador approve of the both of them since they did help save the Boiling Isles). The two were very cold and condescending towards each other when they saw each other before Raine asks them if they can get some potions ingredients for Eda which they both hesitate before agreeing. As they leave, Raine mutters to themselves that they hope that this will make the two of them finally settle this old squabble.
While the two are out getting the ingredients, Alador asks Darius how his life has been since they last talked. After a minute, Darius sighs before saying that a lot changed since then and talks about how he lost his mentor who was the golden guard before Hunter, how Belos was responsible for it, how he found out about the draining spell and tried to stop it but failed. Alador, seeing that Darius was upset, tells him that at least he tried to stop it instead of just letting it happen like Odalia did.
Darius asks him how he and his children had been since the divorce which Alador says that it’s been an adjustment but a good one as he has been able to spend more time with his children while his kids are able to be themselves more without their mother’s expectations looming over them. Darius smiles, saying that must have been a relief for his children as he heard from Hunter that the youngest blight, Amity, was dating Luz, the human who saved them all, while the twins were in multi-tracks. Alador mutters about how he wished that he saw how unhappy his children were sooner. Hearing that, Darius tries to comfort Alador by telling him that the past can’t be changed so he should try to focus on the present.
After a while of the two making up and clearing up a lot of misunderstandings, they come back to the ingredients. Eda and Raine sees that they’re actually getting along which Eda makes a comment that it took them long enough. After a year of the two reconnecting and strengthening their friendship again, Darius asks Alador out and the two of them start dating.

what are your thoughts on the hunter/golden guard disparity? i have always hated his character, bc when he was introduced he was arrogant, selfish, and cruel, but the minute he was discarded by belos, all his actions are suddenly forgiven and he doesnt do anything else bad for the whole show. u probably heard this so many times but he feels like, and for all intents and purposes IS, an entirely different character
people compare him to zuko all the time, but the two are only alike on a surface level; hunter hasn't actually like, done anything to redeem himself? not that he necessarily has to in order to be an interesting character! but the show, and the fandom, treats him as 100% redeemed for no apparent reason, and that grates on me
So in terms of what it does to his character, what it means and the like and how the transition is, I actually did touch on it somewhat in one blog called "Does Hunter Have a Character Arc?"
Also, the disparity between his first major appearance and his second major appearance, alongside Amity's own version of this, is what made me coin the phrase "Your character arc appears a lot more drastic when you start out of character." It was something I'd said first meaning it as a joke but... *gestures at The Collector who is pulling the same shit* The show is really bad as far as handling the characters it wants to redeem because Amity is the closest of the three not to come off as entirely different in her first appearance and even then, she is about 100x more unhinged in her first appearance than she literally ever gets, despite Covention's stakes being so much higher and the failure more catastrophic.
And before I get to the twist on all of this I want to talk about, (I'll actually bold text where that is if you want to skip the anecdote) I want to point out the most bizarre thing that has happened between me and the fandom in regards to Hunter. Warning for Boscha fans because this will sound all too normal to all of you.
I have a story called The Blight's Ruff Secret (which was then converted into the original story Their Ruff Secrets). In it, Hunter shows up for like... One chapter and is named dropped in one or two more. He's not important but Belos running the biggest church in town is for Luz's arc in that story. After all, her being gender non-conforming and bi in a small, religious town doesn't exactly mean she's popular, let alone with the teenagers at church, not that she'll tell a Camila who is devout any of that.
Hunter in that story is a bigot and a bully and friends with Boscha. This combination led to a long comment of someone saying that they liked my story but that Hunter would NEVER be a bigot, bully and god forbid the very concept of him being friends with SOMEONE LIKE BOSCHA.
And this wasn't even post S3. This was between S2A and B. So... To say the fandom is a bit fucked up when it comes to understanding the fundamental elements of Hunter's backstory and who he started as character-wise is a bit of an understatement.
Admittedly, it's also the show's fault because it fails to incorporate elements of the world or the character's history into who they are or what they do. And this is kind of what I want to touch on more with The Golden Guard versus Hunter disparity: What is the Golden Guard? And how does it transform over the course of the show?
So let's start with the absolute first thing we're told and shown. After losing Lilith, the coven decides that it's best face to put out publicly is The Golden Guard. Realistically, you do this for one of two reasons. One is that they are the face that the most amount of people know or two: You believe he can be that because he is the best amongst your ranks. Lilith even pushes at least the second idea by saying that he's a child prodigy. These posters are also put EVERYWHERE in the episode we see them and enchanted in a way to stay in your face if you're annoyed with them, literally.
In that same episode, we're introduced to The Golden Guard, who at least has enough influence to get a LOT of gold and an expedition together, complete with boat, just for the sake of accomplishing the mission of killing the Selkidamus. I actually suspect that if Eda hadn't stolen the gold, Hunter wouldn't have had any reason to threaten Eda, Luz and King because, well... That wasn't his job or plan.
As such, the point of The Golden Guard is to be able to handle messier missions that might risk multiple guards otherwise but he can handle on his own. He is their special agent and appears to be given access to a lot of resources for this goal. Hunting Palisman even pushes this concept further by him being the one sent out alone to get the Palisman, complete with an airship.
As far as a compelling antagonist who at least can do as much as Lilith did in S1, it's not a bad setup actually. It's a bit too close to just making a new EC head but the twist of them having no reason to NOT kill Lilith and Luz is one that allows them to be much more dangerous and brutal in what they do. It's effectively swapping out Rita for Zed in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Buuuuut that's much more complicated for the sake of redeeming Hunter, isn't it? So even in Hunting Palisman, we get our first retcon about the Golden Guard: No one knows him. Literally fucking no one knows what the fuck he looks like, acts like or sounds like. Yes, he's without his cloak and mask but I imagine what he's wearing is still standard issue underneath that since it looks like body armor so maybe give him a little more credit than accusing him of being just some dumb teenager?
This also begs the question of why he was put on the posters? If he is so anonymous to the troops, they can't vouch for him if someone comes to them for more info on who is on the poster. Shouldn't the guards have literally any idea of who's leading them? Or representing them? Because... If Hunter isn't, who is? There's no EC coven head anymore. And never will be from the show's standpoint, even months later.
Eclipse Lake doubles down on this. Now, not only is The Golden Guard unknown without their mask but a disgraced Kikimora can command guards more than Hunter. If this isn't true, Eclipse Lake makes no sense. Admittedly, Hunter doesn't bring his mask or staff, neither of which makes any sense unless he needs to get them directly from Belos before any mission which... MAYBE the staff but absolutely not on the mask. That's just a part of his uniform.
So within three episodes, he has gone from the biggest deal and the most important member of the EC... To nothing. To an outcast amongst his peers without any power or respect. In THREE EPISODES. Without him himself doing anything and only failing one mission because as far as Belos knows, the Selkidamas IS dead.
And the fact that this does mirror Hunter's own character arc highlights how badly it's handled, if it even exists, let alone it being rational in any conceivable way. And this is all S2A which... Almost certainly wasn't affected by the shortening and sure as shit wasn't written with the shortening in mind if it was. After all, while the decision happened by the time the S1 finale came out... Animation takes a lot of time. They would have been knee deep in production for S2. Dana herself has proven that as before S2 came out, they started WRITING AND BOARDING SEASON THREE.
So... This is just what Hunter's arc was decided to be. What the Golden Guard meant. And it's just bad. And that's without getting into the ways it goes about assassinating what we knew about the Emperor's Coven in Sport in a Storm or the like.
So why did the fandom forgive him? Why is he so popular? I... Wish I knew. When push comes to shove, like in the blog I linked at the top, I can come up with more charitable readings on his character. Give him a real character instead of a puppet constantly being yanked around and changed by the Hand of the Author, but casually? Why the hell should I care about a character who I never can get a grasp on? Who's fundamental elements constantly contradict themselves.
And Hunter isn't the only person like this. But hey, the Collector sure is going to be a fun, final boss fight, isn't he? *eye twitch*

A “Thanks To Them” Lumity theory
Ok so before I get into my theory I just want to say that I have seen the two clips that have been posted to YouTube but I haven’t seen the full first 6 minutes of the episode although from what I’ve heard there is a timeskip at the end of it and even by then Luz and Hunter haven’t shared the full extent of what they’ve seen in Belos’ mind yet.
Now that’s out of the way I have some thoughts regarding what I think may happen with Lumity in this special. So in the second clip Gus says that Belos used to be a human meaning the gang might know that Phillip and Belos are the same person although I’m not sure on the likelihood of this as it could just be an easier way for him to explain what happened instead of saying he was a witch who turned into a monster. Anyway even if they do know this, the thing is that they don’t know that Luz “helped” him in the 1600s, the thing that she’s feeling a lot of guilt about.
This leads me to believe that by this point the gang (minus Hunter of course) don’t know too much about Phillip as of yet. A fact I think that Phillip himself might have figured out and may use against Luz in their fight later on in the episode (as well as the Hunter grimwalker thing) in order to split everyone apart. I don’t think this will work and everyone’ll still be able to work together to stop him but what happens after might not be so good.
If it really has been months and Luz hasn’t told the others, especially Amity, anything, there could be a problem. I think Amity might not have a great reaction to this not because Luz accidentally helped Phillip- that wasn’t her fault at all- but because she didn’t tell her about it.
I get why Luz might not say anything, she’s worried that she might be blamed for what Belos did even though we know that no one would really hold it against her. The idea that you helped someone hurt the people you care about and you didn’t even know what it was you were doing at the time must be terrifying and she must be so worried about her friends thinking that she’s like Belos because she helped him find the Collector. Feeling so anxious constantly can mess up your thoughts quite a bit.
Still, a big thing that Amity has stressed is that Luz can tell her anything, something which has been an issue already a couple of times. Firstly, when Luz didn’t tell her about what her mom said in Yesterday’s Lie at the beginning of FatCDP, only confessing later on after the fight with Kikimora. Amity said that she can only help if Luz tells her what’s going on and she agrees to be more open with her girlfriend.
Secondly was during Reaching Out when Luz only tells Amity about her dad after trying to hide it and distract herself all day, only talking about it once she realises she can’t do that. Again, Amity is really understanding and they both end up picking flowers and it was a really wholesome way to end the episode. (Seriously though Reaching Out is so good, one day I might make a post about why I love it so much but back to the topic here.)
Both times you can understand why Luz kept things a secret; the first time because she was worried about Camilla not letting her stay in the BI, the second time because she didn’t even want to think about her feelings. And again I think that Luz doesn’t even really want to think about how she feels about this whole thing because at that point it might be too much for her to deal with on her own, especially with her found family in another world. And what does Luz do when she feels bad about something that happened and can’t fix it?
She tries to distract herself.
Having issues with her mom? Help Kikimora with her work life balance. Sad about her dad’s anniversary? Help Amity with her own problems with Alador. There is a pattern of this especially in s2B so in this case I could imagine Luz putting all her efforts into building a portal, again trying to help her friends, so she doesn’t have to think about her own feelings. (I just want to say here that it’s great that Luz wants to help people, selflessness is a good character trait, the problem is that she helps people to the point where she neglects her own mental health.)
At this point I think Amity’ll catch onto it, even if she’s not sure of what to do about it. Again, what she said about how she can only help if she knows what the problem is. Still, I think that she wouldn’t be happy about the fact that she’s been kind of shut out again, even if Luz has good reasons, because she also wants to be there for her girlfriend. Luz has helped her to vent with her problems with her dad and to break out of her house when Odalia grounds imprisons her and I think Amity wants to reciprocate it but can’t if Luz doesn’t open up to her.
I think they’ll get through it though, I can’t see them breaking up, especially over something like this but I think they’ll both learn from it. Luz finally learning she can open up to Amity and that she isn’t a bad person for being manipulated by Belos and Amity learning why Luz may have not told her everything to begin with, hopefully making their relationship even stronger than it already is (if that’s possible).
Anyway ik it’s been a pretty long post and a bit rambly at points but it was fun to get another theory out after like 4 and a half months. I love lumity so it was fun to finally talk about them. Again ik this could age like milk but I still enjoyed making another TOH (sort of) prediction!
