"Bullshit! Get out of my house. Get out, and dont return."

"Out. and give me the key back."

"Sweetheart-"

"Dont. You dont get to call me that anymore, leave."

He stared at her, at the way she still looked so ethereal while pissed at him, but gave the key up with a sigh. They had no right to stay here, not at 2 in the morning when Katherine probably just got back from the heroes base after working with Gem all night.

Okay, she didnt know if that last part was true but from how tense and stressed Katherine looked, Shelby assumed!.. They walked to the door and took one last look at the love of their life, friend, enemy her and left.

That night was spent in the closest bar to Katherines house since she didnt want to go half way across town to the small apartment in Boatem.

"What are you doing this far across town."

They shot their eyes up to the person who slid into the booth across from them. Brown eyes and blonde hair; Jimmy. Why was he in this bar?

"..I wanted to talk to Kat, she didnt wanna hear it. Didnt want to walk all the way back to Boatem at 2 am."

A sip of the liquor in the glass and Shelby finally looked the taller in the eyes.

"I get that," A sip from his own glass, "Scott dragged Gem and I here."

"Gem's here?"

"She is."

Shelby looked for the hint of a lie, but knew better. Jimmy would never lie about Gem's location, not when he cared about her like he does.

"Shelby!"

Another voice, and an arm around her shoulder. Scott, and Gem sliding into the booth on the other side next to Jimmy.

Now, Shelby knew 3 things about themself and their feelings:

1. They're hopelessly in love with Katherine

2. They liked women, and honestly women only

3. Feelings are confusing

One thing he didnt know, however, was to stop staring at Gem who currently looked outright beautiful. Now, she is one to lie quite often, but if shes calling someone beautiful, it's because she means it; well, gods be damned does Shelby mean it.

Apparently, Gem hasn't noticed the staring to they quickly focused on their hands and the drink in it before downing the rest of the glass and calling for another.

See, for a long time, Shelby's known about their feelings for women and how its nothing how Ren felt for women, or men. She's always struggled with feelings, and for a long time coming to terms with being asexual was a lot; dont get the poor guy wrong, hes hopelessly in love with Katherine and knows it, but goddamn does Gem look great.

He focused back in on the conversation when his 2nd, 3rd, fourth drink arrived and took a slow sip out of the glass. Just now, had Shelby realized, Katherine was there and glaring daggers from the end of the table. They made eye contact and Shelby knew she was in trouble, apparently so did Scott with how fast he moved to let Katherine take his place next to the short villain friend.

"How many have you had."

"Uh-"

"She's had four."

"You were keeping track?!"

"I have to drive Scott and Gem home, of course I have. Weve been here for two hours, Shelby."

"Two hours?!"

Shelby winced at Katherine basically yelling next to them. Yep, big trouble.

"Thats it, come on."

"Where are we going?"

"My house, so you can sober up and sleep."

"Im not drunk!"

"Do I look like I care?"

"Well- No, but-"

"No. Cmon."

Shelby stumbled out of the booth as Katherine dragged them and he waved bye to the trio who just waved back; Scott with a "knowing" smirk.

"Are you fucking stupid?!"

"What?"

"Going to a bar, alone, at two in morning?!"

"Like going to boatem wouldve been any better?"

"Not-.. Not what Im saying."

"I just needed to clear my head, Katherine."

"If you wouldve said something-"

"You wouldnt let me! You were so pissed off at me that you wouldnt let me speak!"

"So were both in the wrong!"

"What have I done?!"

"GO TO A BAR, ALONE."

"AND?"

"Gods be damned youre an idiot."

"I tried to talk to you! You wouldnt let me!"

"Then you shouldve told me to shut up!"

"And risk being punched in the face?! Look, Its happened once before and I dont take too kindly to having a busted lip!"

Katherine rolled her eyes and threw a hoodie, a yellow one, at them and stormed off. Shelby simply took this as a sign to go take a shower before Katherine sends her back outside.

Pearl and Scott run an “animal hospital” called the Hermit’s Stop. Really it’s a it’s one of the most poweful werewolf packs in America. Wilbur’s father was a powerful pack leader who trained Wilbur as nothing more then a solider . Wilbur wanted better for his younger brother Tommy so he ran to Scott. Ranboo is a teenager with weird powers who became best friends with Tommy. Wilbur is suspicious of almost everyone but Pearl and Scott due to trauma tm and he dosen’t even like Ranboo that much. The plot starts when Quackity shows up covered in blood with a half dead Tubbo. Quackity demands shelter from Tubbo’s father Schlatt claiming that Tubbo is the chosen one, the Alpha of all wolves. Wilbur knows that’s bullshit b/c Tommy is the chosen one. However he can’t say that for Tommy’s safety. He and Quackity are forced to work together anyway when a odd masked man shows up claiming to be sent to help Tommy achieve his chosen one greatness. If Quackity’s found out as a liar he could lose the pack and everything he did to keep Tubbo safe. If it’s found out Tommy is the chosen one Wilbur is sure Phil will turn him into a weapon.

Are you the same HistorianRoo that’s on spotify? I was searching for Double Life playlists and I love yours! The vibes are fantastic. Are you the kind of person who like to talk about the breakdowns of why certain songs were chosen? I’d love to hear what your thought process was.

And I do have a breakdown for why which songs!!! I’ll go in order of the playlist, and also this is going to be two parts cause I forgot the playlist is twenty-five songs long:

1. “Hell’s Comin’ With Me” by Poor Mans Poison

- So main reason is because of the line: “There is a hill at the bottom of the valley/ Where all the poor souls go when they die/ And if you listen real close/ You can hear em' like a ghost/ Saying you're never gonna make it out alive.”

- I really felt as though this lyric was really important given the fact that all of the bases were centered around that water ravine, and I knew there were going to be deaths associated with it. And there were!!!

2. “Sky” by Birds of Bellwood

- I picked this song because it talks about grief and first loves and feeling emotions deeply while also not being sure how to deal with the emotions and I felt as though this really fit the vibe of Grian not wanting Scar to be his soulmate.

- But also! In my fic, I had the reasoning be a little different: Grian didn’t want Scar to be his soulmate because he didn’t want to be the reason that Scar died (because his wings were damaged due to this being a world that he shouldn’t be able to fly).

- Important Lyric: “Oh God, can it be true?/ Why me, but more why you?/ When did it fall apart, when did we change?”

3. “Don’t Look Back” by Birds of Bellwood

- This felt like a song that really fit into the “I guess you’re my soulmate now, we need to work together.” And also the vibes are just immaculate.

- Important Lyric: “I'm spending more than I can make/ On empty things to fill the space/ And I've been waiting/ But I can't stay.”

4. “TrusT” by Half-Alive

- Okay so this is the song that started the one-shot series, and it talks about how Trust is something difficult and confusing and hard to place.

- I felt like this really worked given the premise of “They have to figure out who their soulmates are and have no say in who it is.”

- Pearl and Scott are a really good example of how it could have gone: the both of them did not want to be each others soulmates which just caused problems overall.

- Important Lyric: “Trust is like a pond of murky water/ Too dark to see, mysteriously undercover/ I can't jump off the high dive even though I really want to/ My toes are hanging off the ledge.”

5. “Ribs” by The Crane Wives

- This really felt like a Watcher!Grian song and I was obsessed with the concept. 

- But the thing is, I know nothing about the concept of Watcher!Grian beyond like, the vagues of EvoSMP and some other stuff but I am still in love with the idea and created my own headcanons/canon stuff for Watcher!Grian.

- Important Lyric: “The dark doesn't frighten me/ I chose to close my eyes/ It is mine, it is mine/ The night doesn't frighten me/ I chose to let it thrive/ It is mine, it is mine.”

6. “Still Feel” by Half-Alive

- I picked this song before I even knew about Grian and Scar’s deaths, but this really felt like a “I can’t believe we are still here, we still feel, we are still alive” song. It fit into the vibes of the series for the first few episodes, and I loved the lyrics as a whole.

- Important Lyric: “I still feel alive/ When it is hopeless, I start to notice/ And I still feel alive/ Falling forward, back into orbit.”

7. “Home to Me” by Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

- I just adore this song so much and wanted more people to see and appreciate it. It also fit into my fics more than anything. In my writing Grian and Scar relied on each other a lot and Grian always wanted to be sure that Scar was safe.

- Important Lyric: “How dare you love me like you've never known fear/ You've got more troubles than minutes in the year.”

8. “Plans” by Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

- Okay this was kinda just a toss in song, but the vibes are there and the guy singing has a really pretty voice. But then also it does fit with the whole: “I had plans but now they aren’t working out.”

- Important Lyric: “I should care/ About the latest world affair/ Instead I missed it there/ 'Cause I'm here with you”

9. “Shrike” by Hozier

- Yeah main reason this is on there is cause thats the wings I imagined Grian having for the series. I am a big fan of the idea of Grian’s wings changing depending on the series/season of whatever he is working on, so I decided he had Shrike wings for Double Life.

- Important Lyric: “The words hung above/ But never would form/ Like a cry at the final/ Breath that is drawn/ Remember me, love/ When I'm reborn.”

10. “Parners In Crime” by FINNEAS

- Okay so I definetly didn’t listen to the entire song before putting it on the playlist, but like, I really liked the title and thats the main reason it went on there.

- Important Lyric: “But isn't that what friends are for/ Even if we used to be more?/ Like lovers or partners in crime.”

I think we need to talk about Scott’s third life death scene more often, specifically about the scene directly afterward with Martyn and Ren.

It’s so fucked up that Martyn chases after Scott, not hurting or actually touching him but follows him so his king can get a chance to kill him, but Martyn doesn’t touch Scott. Instead he yells after him these half baked apologies and explanations, trying to tell him “I didn’t want Jimmy to die!” That is actually insane.

As Martyn is chasing that boy he connected with at the start, the one he entered the nether with; they went through this worlds actual hell together. Now Martyn is tasked to take after Scott to not let him escape, someone he used to be close to, he chases with death in mind because his king commands it.

And Scott finally stops to face martyn, as the pathetic hand tries to tell him “we didn’t mean to kill your husband” is SO fucked up. Out of everything Martyn said, before having to watch his king murder him, he tells Scott that it was never his intention to harm Jimmy.

Upon Scott’s death, Martyn does not cheer or rejoice, he just lets out this pathetic noise of defeat after Ren murdered Scott for good. Martyn stands there feeling null and empty, while his king goes into hysterics.

Ren also, upon killing Scott, is immediately rushed with guilt and horror at himself. Starts sobbing, “how many more do I have to kill to this violence comes to an end?”

“It’s dripping into my eyes… I can’t see, I’ve been blinded by violence my hand.”

Ren sacrificed himself using Martyns hand, allowed his head to be chopped off so that he could become a red name- but even after all that, he cannot kill without guilt. Other red names like Skizz and Joel get this bloodlust and hunt like a predator. While Ren, the wolf king, kills and then he cries. He sobs and begs for Martyn to hold him. He’s a red name supposed to be thirsting for blood but it isn’t giving him that rush it should. He had Martyn take his head, and all for what? What was this all for?

He’s a red name, and the king of a red kingdom, with a red shield. He brought red winter in his wake, but he stays awake at night shivering in fear about the death of others. In his heart, Ren is too good hearted to kill without remorse. Despite it being his job, and something he sought out to do on purpose; he feels horribly guilty.

The blood dripping into his eyes blinding him is insane symbolism. Being a red name gives him this urge to kill, and it blinds the players. But doesn’t give Ren a rush of ecstasy or excitement, it scares him. Ren feels so blood thirsty that he gets dizzy, and it makes him want to cry. It makes him scared of himself, and he breaks down as yet another person died at his hand.

He begs Martyn to hold him, and all he can think about is before he had to murder another person. He never wanted to become this red king, never wanted his crown to be stained in blood. He wanted to hold Martyns hand, and enchant with him. That’s all he wanted, was a life of peace with his dear friend. Martyn was his friend, not his hand.

Ren asked for this, he prayed for red winter, but now that it arrived, he is so so cold. Ren just wanted to feel the warmth of spring.

Neither of them wanted to kill Scott. Neither of them felt satisfied watching Scott lose his final life, but they murdered him together anyway. They killed him, and then they cried about it. They hold each other in the dead of winter.

“How many more people do we have to kill before all this violence comes to an end?”

The red king just wishes red winter would finally end. He’s tired of his bloody crown weighing down his head, his weak scarred neck struggles to hold. Martyn holds his king in attempt to comfort him, but all he thinks about is how eventually, they will have to die too. Maybe if they’re lucky, they’ll die together.
