there’s something strangely gutwrenching about the solstice having already passed. there have been minor changes in the “side adventures” of the trio.

they know they’re entering medusa’s house. they go to the arch for sanctuary against echidna and chimera. they go to waterland to help ares and convince hephaestus to stop being like his family. they go to the lotus hotel to get help from hermes.

in the books they’re getting tricked and distracted and losing all of that time on their quest was an accident. but they still made it in the end.

but in the show? they did everything right. they were aware of where they were at all times. but then they go and ask for help.

they try to ask for athena’s help and she lets monsters into her temple because they “embarrassed her.” they try to ask for hermes’ help but he doesn’t tell them until it’s too late that the lotus hotel messes with time.

they basically did everything right on their quest only for their biggest failures to occur because of the gods.

but poseidon gives him four pearls. four, instead of three. one for sally too. but we already know that she gets left behind.

they tried so hard only for the deadline to lapse.

To the people saying "Jason wouldn't have jumped into tartarus for Piper, like Percy did for Annabeth" as a way to demean him. Jason, plunged into the sky from the grand canyon to catch Piper in the first few pages of the lost hero without even knowing who she was, and without the knowledge that he could fly. so he basically jumped to his death attempting to catch her. I actually really love how poseidon came to see sally when she called. In the books he always says how much he loved Sally, but since it's from Percy's pov and poseidon can't interact with percy before he knew he was a demi god, it just feels empty because theres no proof. Since the show isn't from Percy's pov though, we get to see proof that poseidon actually did care for Sally and does actually want what's best for percy.

Every part of that flashback was actually heartbreaking and the parallels made it 10x worse

I really love the way they have written Sally and Percy’s relationship in the show. Sally being the mom of a neurodivergent kid and feeling like shes constantly failing. Her being isolated because she doesnt have anyone to talk to about this as a single parent. And she makes mistakes, she feels human. Then we have Percy feeling like a burden to his parent. He cant understand why none of his parents want him around even though its for his wellbeing. It’s so heartbreaking but so real.

there’s something about poseidon showing up for sally.

luke tells percy that they burn what they’ll miss most so that gods will know that what they’re saying is important so they’re really listen.

but sally burns ice cream. ice cream that she has no attachment to. it’s not even baby percy’s ice cream. it’s just random leftover ice cream that she grabbed from a pile of dirty dishes.

the ice cream could not be more unimportant to sally. in the grand scheme of things, the ice cream is nothing.

but poseidon comes to her anyway. he shows up immediately after probably the most lackluster offering sally could give. he shows up anyway.
