Erechtheion, the iconic temple in Athens (Greece) dedicated to the goddess Athena, is thousands of years old and still breathtaking. I had always wanted to see the wonders of ancient Greece, and finally, in April 2023, I got the chance. I visited the Acropolis late afternoon when I knew the sun would bathe the site. I was not disappointed; the Acropolis was glowing where the sun hit it, and the Erechteion seemed dipped in gold. The passing clouds added interest to the sky and played with the light.

Spain and Portugal were transition points for the Celts, who shared beliefs and traditions -include the Beltane feast- practiced by other cultures, which Roman, and Greek, architecture associated with Christianity have preserved in the architecture of churches and temples. Among these are the Caryatids, the Line of maidens, who function as pillars of the temple of Artemis, Erechteion, who symbolize the continuity of culture and blood through their procession, which we still find in the Lucia tradition, choir practices and so on. All these traditions are interrelated, and it’s the legacy of these enetimes histories she preserves by carrying them as lessons in her practices being reconveyed in practice. https://www.instagram.com/p/CmL7N0wNb-P/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Caryatids are sculpetd women that act as columns. The most well known are the ones on the side of the Erechteion on Athens's Acropolis BUT there are other examples like the ones found in Argentina's National Congress's building :)

🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹🔸🔹 🇬🇧 Erechtheion, Acropolis of Athens. As can be seen from the words of Vitruvius, with the name of Caryatids we refer to the architectural elements that represent sculptures of women, dressed in long tunics, used as columns in order to support architraves, shelves or other parts of a building. It is therefore an anthropomorphization of architectural figures. The function of Caryatids is active and not passive (a supporting and not decorative function), as they replace with their body the role of columns or leaves. One of the greatest examples to study and admire the Caryatids is the Erechtheum, a temple located on the Acropolis of Athens. The Erechtheum is composed of a central body which is flanked by two independent minors, the most fascinating part is the "loggia of the Caryatids" located at one end of the southern side of the temple. 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 🔸 🔹 📸 Photo by @dimitris_adrikop 🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹 #grecia #greece #atene #athens #loggiadellecariatidi #ancientgreece #erechteion #eretteo #caryatids #cariatidi #archeo #acropoli #acropolis #travelling #architecture #ancientarchitecture #architecturelovers #ancientart #antiqua_archeologia #archeologia #archeology #ig_greece #ig_athens #ig_ https://www.instagram.com/p/B61H8Edg8b_/?igshid=eyb3ik8b2d64
