He was a semi-openly gay man within professional wrestling. Publicly, he was secretive about his sexuality. He had a poor, sad, lonely upbringing until he was more successful his father accepted him more. But he didn't have much support from his family when he came out to them as a teenager in the late 50s. Had to leave home at 16.

He's been the subject of rumors and erroneous stories because of homophobia in wrestling and in society.

He was a talent and a genius for wrestling and helped so many wrestlers over 45-50 years throughout the 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s all the way until his death in 2020. He was like 'required reading' for anyone dreaming to wrestle, he put on shows and matches that today are still unbelievable.

I think he's a good man. He's a hero.

this whole Goncharov/Goncharev fictionalized "marketing" reminded me of the time I watched an Austin McConnell video about the same phenomenon with a made-up book

the video here if you wanna watch but the short of it is that I, Libertine was a made-up book that a radio show host decided to do as a social "experiment" regarding the cultured snobs at that time. What his cohorts would do is that they would go to bookstores or talk to other people in public or in special events, etc., and they would bring up this wonderful book they hd just read called I, Libertine. They would ask the unsuspecting people if they've read it or how do they find this literary masterpiece.

Of course since it doesn't exist, the people around them would either try to find the book or engage in conversation with the ones in-the-know about this elaborate joke. A lot of these people would respond as if they have read the book and would even describe the plot and themes as if it existed.

Anyway, it's wild how we engage in pieces of art and fiction
