“What’s your type, di Angelo?”

“Hm.” Nico looks Leo up and down, then shrugs, nonchalant. “Boys with brown hair, I guess. Curls. Freckles. Engineer majors who have nerdy ass dreams.”

Leo can’t help the grin that spreads across his face. “Yeah? What a coincidence, I just happen to be into the dark and gloomy type.”

“Gloomy?” Nico echoes, offended. “I’m not gloomy. You barely know me.”

“Who said I was talking about you?”

There’s a pause before Nico huffs out a laugh, a light and airy sound that distracts Leo so much that he almost forgets what they’re talking about. “Fuck off, Valdez,” Nico says, but he’s smiling. And close. Really close. “Just kiss me already.”

nico prefers to listen to classical music when listening through headphones. not for any edgy reason but because he doesn't like the sound of voices in his ears because it reminds him of the voices of the dead. in fact, he listens to music to drown them out.

leo loves to make and listen to instrumental music/electronic music, so when he learns about nico not liking songs with lyrics he makes him music. pre relationship he uses it as a way to bond.

Ok so y'know how Leo's like, perky happy class-clown persona is basically a trauma response?

I feel like he also feels he has to put on that mask in order to win friends or keep things from getting too tense. And maybe he's initially kind of frustrated with Nico because he doesn't play along with it, he doesn't buy it, not for a second.

But then, when Nico catches him crying in the engine room, and he doesn't judge him or act confused because Leo's never let himself be visibly upset in front of other people, but instead seems to understand and empathize with him, he realizes that hey, it's nice to have someone you can cry around.

Spirit Light: It wasn't any wonder your magic didn't work on it. It wasn't a ghost. It was a spirit, but not the right kind of spirit for us to handle.

Ghostfire: Pffsh. I can handle some dumb swamp-walker. Next time I see that nøkk, I'll have my iron horseshoes ready.

Spirit Light: Still... I wish I knew where those sheep vanished to...
