Since people like throwing out "Gray Jedi" as some kind-of gotcha with a made-up definition to lift up their faves as better than all of the other Jedi, I think it's within the rules to make up my own definition of Gray Jedi to reduce my least faves as worse than all of the other Jedi.
"Gray Jedi" now means a person who is technically still a member of the Jedi Order, but is choosing not to follow their teachings or practices out of arrogance whenever it suits their selfish agendas. In other words, a Jedi in name only, but not in character or behavior.
So. Anakin. Anakin is a Gray Jedi. Say hello to Gray Jedi Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Order's worst Jedi in history!

A Master and his Padawans (really Knights)
Tumblr media
Figured I'd finally draw these babies all together and kinda show off their dynamics. Lucas and Lilac are already Knights when the war starts, they just like to stick around with their dad <3
Also lmk if you want to be added to the ✨ important persons taglist ✨ it's always open for more goobers

EPISODE 3: DIM JEDI
Welcome to the Dim Jedi episode (shoutout to tumblr user @3piox for this joke) where we argue that Grey Jedi make no sense with George Lucas’s canon worldbuilding, and to prove it, we talk about why none of your faves are Grey Jedi (such Luke Skywalker, Ezra Bridger, Cal Kestis, etc).

✨Happy Star Wars Day! May the 4th be with You! ✨
I decided to redraw a redraw of one of my oldest Reylo pieces! The one on the left is from January 2020, the one on the right is from April 2018 😳 My style has come a long way 😂
Anyway I tried designing Rey and Ben some post TROS (ignoring TROS) outfits! And it was really hard I'm never designing star wars clothes again 😭 Also got the idea to give them multi-coloured sabers from some concept art in the TFA artbook (credit to Tiemens)

I’ve been thinking about the Grey Jedi, and why the idea gained a negative reputation over the years. Probably the clearest example of a Grey Jedi is Jolee Bindo, who is generally liked by fans, and I think the reason he’s accepted while Grey Jedi normally aren’t reveals how best to explore them: Jolee isn’t very powerful.
Grey Jedi are justifiably criticized as a flimsy excuse for heroic characters to use the dark side without consequence, without taking opportunities to delve into the character and explore why this could work, or why it inevitably wouldn’t. Except with Jolee. By the game’s mechanics, being just a smidge light-sided means he can use different powers without penalties, but he can’t save any Force points, either. With cure arguably being the most useful power, and leveled-up light and dark powers being comparable, Jolee isn’t a good fighter by any metric. Even with a large number of Force points, without any specialization, he burns out fast.
But that’s part of what makes his character work. He didn’t leave the Jedi because he thought they were holding him back from True Power, he left because he wanted to become wiser. Whether he succeeded or not is what’s worth examining, and his commentary is a better reason to bring him along than any tactical benefit. Grey Jedi shouldn’t be the best of both worlds, they should be weaker because power isn’t the goal, and trying to gain understanding while sacrificing strength is a relevant argument for them still qualifying as a type of Jedi.

Grey Jedi Cal?
No.
Grey Jedi BODE.
Because a Grey Jedi as per real Star Wars/George Lucas worldbuilding would be a Jedi who is starting to commit selfish, heinous acts and building attachments but hasn't completely fallen.
Bode Akuna was a Grey Jedi for years before he fell.

So, those who are against the term/concept of grey Jedi, I've heard Ahsoka be described as such, what is your problem/stance/opinion with that?
