"meet me here again tomorrow. at noon."
sabine finds that slumber has been kinder to her. she awoke to the hazy peridean early sun, to the smell of cookings just outside of the fulcrum. the noti people must have been up for sometime now. with the scent of food entering the ship, that means ahsoka is, too.
oh, right. she hasn't told ahsoka.
sabine rises from her bunk with a soft grunt, already fabricating a plan to sneak out of camp. she glances at the clock she and huyang constructed; the time is indicating closer towards midday. sabine leans out of her bunk to search for ahsoka and huyang, not finding either at the common table or the practice floor. the door to the cockpit was also open, showing vacant seats. they're outside then, sabine concluded.
without wasting anymore time, sabine tiptoes to the refresher for a quick wash and to get dressed. her fingers were crossed that ahsoka stays occupied until she could sneak out, but luck betrayed her. by the time sabine got out of the refresher, ahsoka was at the common table, plating some bowls that looked like breakfast and a jug of what sabine assumes as the tea she usually drinks.
"morning," ahsoka calls, her tone sounding suspiciously humoured, "had a good sleep?"
sabine scratches her hair, avoiding eyes with ahsoka. "uh, yeah. slept alright."
"that's good."
sabine nods, quickly making her way to her bunk to pack up her blasters and to put on her beskar. her periphery catches ahsoka's eyes on her, but she tries her best to ignore her master. plan A of quietly sneaking out failed, so sabine decides to just play it coolly and find the right time to sneak out again. she casually walks to grab a cup from the storage, pouring herself the tea.
"what's all this?" sabine nods at the bowls and plates at the table, sipping her tea to calm her nerves.
ahsoka pushes a bowl at sabine's direction, "late breakfast. the noti found native fruits and berries, you should try some," and made a gesture sabine interprets as an instruction for her to sit and eat.
sabine shrugs. "alright." she began scooping the bowl; it consists of some kind of mushy grain-like porridge with various haphazardly chopped fruits. the texture initially puts her off, but the taste wasn't so bad. it reminded her of some kind of pudding. "hey, where's huyang?"
"he's outside. last i saw, he was helping a noti folk fix up their little pod," ahsoka replies easily, munching on a crunchier chopped fruit. sabine hums in response, mouth a little full. ahsoka then looks at sabine inquisitively as she asks, "where'd you run off yesterday? you were gone for a really long time."
"uh, i went out to hunt?" sabine cringes internally, not intending her answer to sound unconvincing, which she follows up with, "no luck, though. no game, or stuff. but, i did find a hotspring."
"did you?"
"yep."
ahsoka's brow quirked, and sabine can't really tell what her master is thinking. "you found someone, though. didn't you?"
well, shoot. sabine doesn't really know how to deny that question, so she decides to dance around the whole truth, "yeah. baylan's blonde padawan. i ran into her at the spring. surprisingly, she didn't try to kill me."
"i can see that," ahsoka chuckled. "did something happen?" when sabine tilts her head questioningly, ahsoka adds, "i felt something shifted, in the force."
double shoot. guess plan B of sneaking out and postponing the conversation failed too. sabine sighs. "i guess so...? i... i don't know. i can feel her, and she can feel me. through the force."
"that's not uncommon. you've finally tapped into the force, making your presence known within it and to anyone who can access the force." ahsoka gestures between them, explaining further, "like how i can sense you, and you can sense me."
ahsoka's explanation makes sense. though, sabine can't help but think that there's more to the connection between her and shin. she knows that ahsoka and her have a bond, as master to padawan. it doesn't quite make sense to her as to why she would share a connection with shin; the kind of bond that they have.
thinking about their bond might have subconsciously triggers it in sabine's mind, as she finds herself reaching for shin within the force. she sees shin, on the other end of their connection, hunting with a group of the red-armoured bandits. sabine can feel shin sensing her presence in their connection.
shin pauses atop her howler, turning her head to the side where sabine is sitting inside the fulcrum. sabine's breath choked in her throat when she hears shin's voice... inside her mind?
'you missed me already?'
sabine wants to scream out loud; shin sounded unbearably cocky, like she was teasing her. and the fact that shin's voice filled her whole mind like an echo in a chamber doesn't help her clear her mind. even in an odd psychic link, shin can be infuriating.
'you wish,' sabine replied in her mind, trying to put up a convincing annoyed act. 'this happened out of my control, okay?'
shin lets out a noise that sounded like a chuckle. 'you are a lousy liar, if you did not know already.' when sabine was about to protest her, shin interrupts, 'as much as i enjoy to watch you try to lie your way out, i am in the middle of hunting. you, are a distraction.'
sabine rolled her eyes, disconnecting herself from the freaky little mind connection thing. she almost choked on her tea when she finds ahsoka looking at her with such a knowing look. sabine finds it oddly infuriating and similar to shin. she hid her face behind her cup, shooting an unamused glare back.
"what?"
ahsoka smiles, and sabine has a bad feeling about it. "you were with her just know, weren't you?"
sabine chokes, "i- what are you–?" she sputters with flushing cheeks. she then manages, "how did you...?"
"well, you went quiet for a while," ahsoka points out the obvious with a smile, sipping her tea, "and i felt the presence of someone else briefly. someone you ran into rather frequently, on top of that."
"that's great," sabine grumbles. "so, the cost of using the force is no privacy for my mind, got it." perhaps she should learn the whole force mind-shield trick, if it's possible to learn it this early.
ahsoka laughs. "relax. i wasn't in your mind, ever." she then makes a move to stand, placing a hand on sabine's shoulder as she says, "i only felt something in the force, and i put two and two together."
sabine pouts, but didn't say anything to that. she opts to finish her bowl of food quickly, knowing ahsoka is going to prepare her for more training. when she finished eating, she quickly cleans the table and brought the dishes to get it cleaned.
ahsoka was preparing the practice floor by the time sabine finishes cleaning up, presumably for meditation training. not exactly sabine's most favourite part of training, but she really doesn't have much to say as a padawan. perhaps ahsoka might teach her how to not let other people look into her brain, that would be neat.
it was a few hours later when ahsoka concurred sabine's training for the day. her master had thrown in a little zatochi session post meditation, testing if her senses are more honed in than the first time sabine did it. to ahsoka's pleasure, sabine did improve when it comes to sensing ahsoka's intents. didn't entirely surprise ahsoka that sabine still falls victim to getting frustrated easily, resulting in ahsoka tripping her again.
"going to meet her again?" ahsoka called out as sabine was packing up a bag, smiling teasingly as she leans against the backrest of the common table.
sabine rolled her eyes. "oh, ha-ha."
"sabine, relax, it doesn't bother me what you do in your spare time." her togrutan master laughs, amused at sabine's defensiveness. ahsoka reaches over to a storage compartment, taking out the large fur coat that she doesn't wear, handing it to sabine. "take this. give it to her."
"what? why?" sabine frowns, looking down at the coat. she recalls that shin has her own cape thing that she wore to the hotspring yesterday.
ahsoka steps closer, her expression a little serious. "it's better used with her than it stays here, gathering dust. and sabine?" when sabine raised her brows expectantly, ahsoka continues, "ask her if she'd like to stay with us."
sabine eyes widened, unexpecting ahsoka's request. "wh– what do you mean 'stay with us'? why?"
"her master's abandoned her. she's alone."
"not as alone as you might think," sabine scoffs, petulant. "she's running with the bandits."
ahsoka shoots her a look, unimpressed. "you know that is not what i meant." she sighs patiently. "you can feel her, more than i do. you know what she feels, her emotions and her thoughts."
"yeah, i guess so..."
"and you of all people, knows best what it's like when your master walks away from you."
and there it is, the final strike home. sabine groans, "y'know, i hate it when you're right about things."
ahsoka laughs, deep and low in her torso. she pats sabine's shoulder and gave it an assuring squeeze. "i'm not always, and you know this. just try, sabine. she just needs someone at the moment."
"you think that someone is me?" sabine raises her brow, uncertain and expectant. ahsoka doesn't answer immediately, and sabine nods somewhat understandingly.
"you saw how she reacted when i offered my help the first time," ahsoka recounts to their last battle, where shin had looked so defeated and fled her and sabine. "i didn't believe she was ready then. but, like most things in life, we sometimes just needs to give it a little bit of time. i think she is more ready now, and with the right person," she nods at sabine, who pursed her lips in a tight-lipped smile, "she may accept our help."
sabine sighed, long and drawn. "alright, fine." the mandalorian grabs the fur coat, stuffing it in her bag. she huffs as she saddles the bag, walking towards the landing ramp. "i'll try to talk to her, but i can't promise anything. and if she kills me, you're responsible for murley!"
ahsoka merely laughs amusedly. "go!"
sabine waves at her master, before disappearing towards her howler and hops onto it's saddled back. her companion animal instantly takes off on it's strong legs, racing towards where it took her yesterday. sabine was tempted to search for shin again in their bond, but restrains herself and hopes that the blonde padawan will be there anyway.
her howler's speed began to decrease as the path to the hotspring becomes familiar to sabine's eyes. she scouts the surrounding, naturally out of instinct, for any bandits or nuisance that she'd have to fight off. the mandalorian sighs in relief when she saw nothing, and more importantly, sensed nothing dangerous in the force.
sabine hops off from her howler, keeping a gentle guiding hand on it's neck as they walk closer towards the spring. she finds a patch of thicker grass and softly commands 'tota' at her howler, unloading her bag and the sack of food for her howler. she scratches it's snout with a smile as it munches on the food sabine brought, whinying joyfully.
"you actually made it here again."
shin's voice filled sabine's surrounding and mind, and sabine wasn't even remotely surprised. she had sensed her arrival a few moments ago. and before she can say anything smart, shin had stolen the moment from her. sabine huffs amusedly.
"aw, were you expecting me to bail?" sabine teases with a smirk, turning from her howler to find shin. the blonde padawan is atop her white howler, head held high as always, and a ghost of a smirk on her lips. something felt a little off, though.
shin barely huffs out a laugh, sounding more like a restricted exhale. sabine watches closely; shin's arm is circled around her waist. like she's holding something in. sabine frowns, strutting closer towards shin, her skin breaking in sweat and her lips looking a little paler.
sabine then feels it; a pounding pain across her abdomen, the same area shin is clutching onto.
shin's tunic is leaking in red, sabine only now realises.
"shin!" sabine frantically approaches shin, wincing as she feels shin's pain on her body. the blonde padawan tries to get down from her howler, but could barely hold herself together. sabine commands the white howler 'tota' so she can help shin come down easier. "y-you're bleeding. what happened?"
shin grunts, pushing herself off of her howler. "i... we ran into a different group of bandits." her face contorts in pain as sabine lays her down on the ground, arm still clutching her bleeding abdomen. "they were not friendly." shin attempted at a joke, sabine assumes, but it came out as a whisper.
"i need you to remove your clothes." sabine hadn't realised what she blurted out, only registering what she said half a moment later, when shin looked at her with an incredulous and amused look. she tries composing herself as she says, "i brought a medkit, i'll wrap you up."
shin doesn't say anything, only nodding. sabine takes the sign to scramble back to her howler, grabbing her bag and searches for the medkit. she hopes it's sufficient enough to dress shin's wound, because if it's more serious, she'd need to take her to the fulcrum's medbay. that's about two dozens klicks from here, and sabine isn't sure shin can hold off that long of a journey back.
sabine returns to shin, laid on her back with the top part of tunic undressed. with it, reveals shin's wounded stomach. the injury is caked with a layer of crusted blood, mostly browned from oxidation, but still slightly leaking. sabine winces as she gauges the depth of shin's injury, but it's hard to conclude with the amount of blood covering the wound.
"i'm gonna start cleaning it up, okay?" sabine warns shin as she prepared a disinfecting kit, in which shin merely nodded weakly in response to. "it's gonna be a bit painful, so tell me if it's too much."
"do it," shin grunts, preparing herself. when the disinfectant grazes her injured skin, shin barked out a long and painful groan. sabine winces when shin grabs her arm, seemingly out of painful instinct. shin's body writhes as sabine continues wiping the bloodied wound, head thrown back whilst her eyes shut tightly in an agonizing manner. her eyes bolted open in a frenzy as she growled out, "fuck!"
sabine whispers calming phrases that she can remember in mando'a, working quickly and precisely on shin's injury. once cleaned, sabine can finally measure the depth of the gash on shin's stomach, and deduces it isn't as deep as she thought. it definitely requires stitching, and with limited kit, sabine had to resort to the quick-stitcher.
shin had gone quieter, huffing barely audible grunts. watching shin this awfully pale and unusually languid terrified sabine; she's always used to viewing shin as this indestructible force, that she's forgotten shin too, can bleed. her chest rises and falls in an arrhythmic pattern, lips pale and eyes sunken in.
"hey. shin?" sabine gently touches her shoulder, and shin sluggishly moves her head to face her. she smiles, tight-lipped and half apologetic. "i'm gonna stitch you up quickly, yeah?"
"alright." shin nods weakly, dropping her head back to the side again, facing away from sabine.
sabine sanitizes the quick-stitcher, a stapler-like device, and applies a topical numbing gel around the gash. shin hisses at the contact, but exhales softly afterwards. sabine works her way quickly, stitching shin's wound closed. the numbing gel works, sabine can tell from the way shin merely jumps at the first few stitches but didn't groan in pain.
when the last stitch was applied, sabine applies healing ointments before she props shin up to a raised position as she quickly wraps shin's wound with a sterile gauze neatly. sabine reaches to a boulder nearby through the force, placing it behind shin so the blonde padawan can lean her back against it to support her body.
"okay," sabine said in a relieved half-whisper, haphazardly storing her equipments back to the medkit box, "there. you're all good."
shin was quiet for a bit, huffing a long drawn-out breath. her eyes slowly opens, and sabine can guess she's slightly disoriented and hazy. shin's hand raised to hold her neatly bandaged torso, still partially naked as her tunic hangs open on her shoulder.
"this was not how i expected the day to go." shin winces as she tries sitting more upright, making a move to redo her tunic. the tone of her voice is indecipherable, but if sabine dared to guess, she sounds somewhat embarrassed of herself.
sabine's lips quirk to a half smile, sitting properly. "yeah, well. i don't think anyone ever really plans to get ambushed by a group of rogue bandits, huh?"
shin rolls her eyes weakly. "you are really not as funny as you think, did you know that?"
"you have a really funny way of saying thanks, did y'know that?" sabine returns with a cock of her brow. that earned her a faint disgusted look from shin, making her snort. she nudges shin, teasing but careful not to hurt the wound. "i did, just save you from bleeding out."
"you are infuriatingly confusing," shin sighs, leaning her head back against the rock behind her, but smiling at sabine nonetheless, "but i appreciate your help. you worked quick enough that it was not torturous for me."
this time, sabine rolled her eyes at shin's dry joke. "ha-ha. maybe i should have, if you wanted me to hurt you that much."
shin doesn't say anything, her faint smile shifts a little more somberly as her lidded eyes stays fixated on sabine's. the mandalorian sinks into shin's darkened greenish-blue eyes, couldn't tear her eyes away even if she wants to. not like she wants to, anyway. shin's pupils are slightly blown, but her gaze is strong. it reminded sabine when she stared at her at the shuttle ship, descending from morgan's golden hyperspace donut.
"what is in your head?" shin mutters with her usual tilt of her head, voice slightly scratched and accent heavy on her tongue. her evergrowing pale fringes are sticking to her forehead, edges poking her lids. sabine couldn't stop herself from brushing them away gently with the pads of her fingers.
sabine smiles. "aren't you usually in it? 'soka told me everyone can hop into my brain now, because i can access the force."
shin had this ghost of an unimpressed look on her face that sabine finds mildly hilarious. "just because we are intertwined in the force, doesn't mean i know what you are always thinking. your mind is always... a forest. a colourful and loud forest."
sabine typically doesn't blush this easily, but the things shin says or do makes it really hard for her to contain her flustered reactions. she had to actively fight her blush down so she wouldn't turn half as red as her hair when she was twenty six.
"uh, thanks?" sabine manages lamely, losing any remaining ounces of eloquency. when shin had this barely readable expression on her face, something that sabine tries to decipher as amusement, she tries to shift topic, "anyways. i was about to hop in for a relaxing dip before i had to stop you from spilling your whole guts out, literally."
shin rolled her eyes at sabine's joke, earning a satisfied smirk from the mandalorian. she then tries to get up, which immediately sprung sabine to help. "a soak in the hotspring does sound nice."
sabine tries to sit shin back down. "whoa, hey. what do you think you're doing?"
"going for a dip."
"uh, not with a big ass gash on your stomach, you won't?"
"you dressed it already." shin stubbornly retorted.
sabine groans, exasperated. "yeah, and it'll undress if you go for a soak, di'kut."
shin's brows dipped, contorting in a mild confusion and surprise. "what?"
"your bandage. it's gonna get ruined–"
"no, i know that," shin quickly interrupted sabine, inching closer in an unlikely speed towards the mandalorian's space, ultimately sending sabine backward out of reflex. shin's eyes narrowed. "you said something earlier. in an alien language."
"ali– huh?" sabine face contorts in confusion, before things began to click in her mind. "what, di'kut?" she repeated the word at shin, who nods in confirmation. sabine snorts. "that's a mando'a word. it means 'idiot'. because you were."
shin's brow furrowed, and sabine swears her bottom lip quirked up to a pouty frown. "i am not an idiot."
sabine shoots shin an unimpressed look, which the blonde padawan returns with an empty glare. "you literally wanted to soak in a hotspring after someone tore your whole stomach open."
"didn't you dress my wound with a waterproof gauze? it should keep dry for a few hours."
"i-" sabine tries to argue, but shin did have a point. the mandalorian sighed. even if she had better argument points, shin most likely would have ignored sabine and do as she wishes anyway. "alright, fine. but, if your bandage undressed and your wound reopens, you best believe i'll make it hurt when i have to restitch it."
shin quirked her brows in a manner sabine interprets as impressed. the blonde padawan smirks wolfishly. "is that a threat?"
sabine wants to wipe that infuriatingly attractive smirk on shin's face so badly. the mandalorian leans closer towards shin, closing the already small space between them, her eyes darting towards shin's now vanishing smirk. sabine's eyes finds shin's stellar blue eyes as she tilts the blonde padawan by her chin.
"it can be a promise."
sabine swears, for a miniscule split of seconds, shin's pupils dilated and she can hear the soft hitch of her breath; like it was caught in her throat.
shin huffs, amused. "i'll be waiting for it then."
sabine scoffs, but shin had ignored her. shin unclasps her armour and stacking them neatly beside her rock, struggling to lean forward to strip away the lower part of her clothes and armour. shin had kicked off her boots, and is now left with her tight fitting black tank and her matching underwear.
"are you gonna keep staring at me?"
shin's voice snaps sabine out of her blatant staring, turning away with the speed of light to hide her blush. to stop herself from thinking about shin undressing in front of her, sabine immediately began taking off her beskar, one plate at a time.
sabine heard shin rustling behind her, attempting to stand and walk on her own. she had to turn, and saw shin wobbling unsteadily on her feet, but after a few steps, she regained a somewhat more stable stride. when shin finally got into the water, sabine had just finished stripping out of her jumpsuit. she left her beskar pieces neatly next to shin's own armour.
the hotspring feels a lot warmer than yesterday, but it isn't like the heat is intolerable. shin had sat herself down closer towards the deeper parts, the clear water stopping just at her collarbones. her eyes are closed as she dips her head back into the water, and comes back up swiftly. she wipes away water and stray hair clinging to her face, and sighed.
"the water just fine for you?" sabine asks as she dives headfirst, feeling the warmth prickling her cold cheeks. she resurface with a gasp, brushing purple locks away from her face and swims towards shin.
shin hums, eyes still closed. sabine couldn't help but watch shin's throat bobs up and down, and nearly drowned herself after catching herself doing it. shin's voice is soft when she spoke: "the springwater feels nice. i find this place to be a sanctuary in the midst of this wasteland of a planet."
sabine swims closer, stopping herself only a few inches away from shin. "yeah?"
shin nodded, finally peeling her eyes open. her gaze finds sabine's, and sabine began to wonder why are shin's eyes so captivating that she couldn't look away even if she tries. her aquamarine eyes began to roam sabine's face, dancing all over to find whatever it is shin is trying to find, before settling on her lower lip for a few seconds.
sabine feels shin reaching out to her, spread out in thr force. she reached towards shin, trying to meet her in the middle. her eyes almost rolled shut when she finds shin within the force, feeling an intense wave of warmth washing over her whole body.
shin is pulling her closer.
sabine hadn't even realised that she was physically padding towards shin's body until she opens her eyes and finds herself in between shin's legs. her face was much too close to shin's face, but shin isn't showing signs of protest. the blonde padawan's skin has regained some colour from sitting in the hotspring that she lost from the injury, and sabine finds herself staring unashamedly at shin's lips.
it's safe to say that shin barely noticed anything from sabine, because she's also much too occupied eyeing sabine's own lips hungrily. their bond in began to pulse and pull each other in as they feel each other and the ever growing tension that seems amplified. shin had already engulfed sabine in the force with her own tendril-like connection, wrapping her in an intense wave of pleasure and warmth.
"shin…" sabine couldn't stop a breathy whine laced underneath as she says the other padawan's name, the sound escaped her lips straight into shin's mind.
shin winces when sabine wraps herself around shin through their bond, and for a fraction of seconds, the mandalorian was worried she might have hurt shin. alas, with the way shin is grabbing onto sabine's hips, sabine can easily concur that it isn't out of pain. shin's skin burns under her touch, and not because of the warmth of the water surrounding them.
sabine hadn't even realised her body was being yanked forward and found herself seated atop of shin, suddenly looking down into a pair of darkened blue-greenish eyes and drowning into her.
shin's eyes flickered from sabine's down to her lips again before coming back up to meet her again. there's raw and hungry need behind those eyes; sabine doesn't even need to look at shin's eyes to know. sabine ran the pad of her thumb against shin's lower lip, almost sighing when her lips nibbled against her thumb.
she can feel shin; everything that shin is feeling.
shin's lips tremble against sabine's thumb, leaving her lips parted expectantly, and sabine is actively fighting the urge to slip her thumb inside. instead, she drags her thumb down to shin's chin, tilting her up even further. a surprised whine escaped shin.
"sabine…"
sabine shuts her eyes again. she reels in the way shin had said her name in the exact same way as she did yesterday; the way it sends chills up her spine and warmth down her abdomen. shin's grip on her hips tightened, threatening to dip lower. sabine couldn't help but smirk when she opens her eyes again, finding a new and much more satisfying look on shin's eyes.
shin is desperate; oozing with so much want.
"tell me," sabine whispered just above shin's lips, pulling back when the blonde padawan chases after her lips; smiling so teasingly as she hovers above, "what do you want, shin? use your words, cyar'ika."
a soft grunt escaped shin's lips, going straight into sabine's mouth, incoherent, but sabine heard it fine. "i need to kiss you."
sabine smiles, satisfied. her hand finds the side of shin's head, fingers gripping her mane of blonde as she dives her lips into shin's hungry ones. she can feel shin instantaneously grabbing her by her ass and pulls her closer into the open mouthed kiss, moaning from her touch straight into shin's throat.
shin is impatient; jagged and hurried, as she devours sabine whole. her teeth found flesh so easily and efortlessly as sabine allows her to nip and bite on her bottom lip. sabine tasted shin's pure, unadulterated raw need and want bleeding into her tongue, gripping into shin's neck and hair like a lifeline.
everything felt explosive; within her, within shin, and the area around them. their bond heightened every single senses in their body and tuning them to each other and everything surrounding them. it's sending sabine to a huge overdrive.
sabine began to wince in a mix of pleasure and pain; everything pricks at her skin but it feels so good at the same time. her fingers slipped further into the back of shin's head, yanking her hard enough to pull shin out of their hungry kiss. shin, much like a hungry animal, instantly chased for skin when they separated from the kiss, her lips and teeth latching onto sabine's pulse.
"shin... it's–" sabine chokes a moan when shin sucks just right on her pulse point, "fuck… shin... we need–" a louder moan escaped her, unsure why, "shin, it's t-too much now… we need to stop… shin!"
sabine's words fell on deaf ears as shin ignores her and kept her mouth busy on her collarbones, hands roaming on her ass like it's the only thing keeping shin alive. sabine wishes she could give in to the pleasure, but the pain is getting unbearable. the hand on shin's neck pushed her down hard enough, eliciting a surprised choked moan from shin.
sabine had to pretend that the noise didn't arouse her so much more than shin already did.
"shin, we need to p-pull away..." sabine hisses sternly through pain and pleasure. when she felt the bond between them pulsing again, she had to fight back another moan. "shin, pull away. right now."
shin regained a little more coherency and restraint at the urgency in sabine's tone, nodding as she began to slowly detach herself from sabine, physically and through the force.
somehow, pulling away from each other has become more painful than when they were engulfed in each other. shin growled carnally while sabine is on the other end, clutching her whole body in her arms because of the pain.
sabine immediately shuts off the bridge between them the same time as shin did, and much like yesterday, they both laid on opposite ends with bated and uneven breaths. shin laid flat on her back against the edges of the spring, whereas sabine was on her stomach and propped on her arms weakly.
"shin," sabine breathlessly called, trying to crawl closer towards shin. she gargled on the water, choking out, "are you okay?"
shin grunts as she rises from the water. "i'm alright." she turns to find sabine beside her. "you do not look or sound as alright."
sabine shush her as she tries dragging her body upwards, flipping over wetly so she's on her back. "shut up. not everyone who just had what felt like force-sex on spice gets to walk away as easily as you do, okay? i think i fried a bunch of my nerves."
"i see you've found your eloquency back."
"fuck you."
shin kinked a brow, amused. "didn't you already?"
sabine shot her a glare, but with the flushed cheeks, it's really not putting much effect. "shin hati, i swear i'll shoot you with my blaster if you keep talking."
sabine swears she saw shin's cheeks and neck flush a faint red, but doesn't think much about it, blaming it on the heat of the hotspring. speaking of necks, sabine starts to feel the dull throb of where shin had latched on her skin, groaning loudly.
"please tell me you didn't leave any marks," sabine moans as she touches the tender spots.
shin eyes sabine's neck, a ghost of her infuriating smirk began to haunt over her lips. guiltlessly, shin says, "there are some red marks all over."
"oh, come on! i bruise easily, shin!"
"you are a lot more adorable than i thought, then."
sabine grumbled loudly, but can't really bring herself to be actually mad at shin. "i really am going to shoot you with my blaster one day."
shin tilts her head back. "i will be waiting on that." she then slowly starts to rise from the water, walking slightly bent forward while clutching her bandaged wound. sabine watches with narrowed eyes as shin struts towards their pile of clothes and armour.
sabine had suspected something, immediately rising from the water to chase shin. shin quirked her brows, expression confused, but her body is shifted away from sabine's eyes as shin fumbles over with her tunic and pants.
sabine crossed arms. "your wound opened, didn't it." when shin ignored her, sabine grabbed her by her hips to look for the injury. and sure enough, the now soaking bandage is seeping with red right where shin's wound is at. "i told you it'll reopen."
shin merely shrugs, putting on her pants and tunic over her wet clothes. she began clasping up her armour pieces, while sabine huffs and puts on her own jumpsuit, skipping her beskar pieces. she takes out the large fur coat in her bag to make room for her beskar, tossing the coat at shin.
"what is this for?" shin asks, puzzled.
sabine zips up her jumpsuit. "put it on. it's almost nightfall and it'll get cold. you're coming back with me to my camp."
shin frowns. "no. i will go back to my own."
"shin, for fuck's sake," sabine groaned, unamused, "your wound is open. you come back to your camp with a gaping wound like that, and i'll have to look for your cold body tomorrow. i doubt the bandit's camp is crawling around with medkits or droids." when shin is unmoving, sabine sighs, speaking softer, "come with me. just for the night. deal?"
shin was quiet for a few beats, before sighing curtly. "fine. just for tonight."
sabine nodded, helping shin get up on her howler. "stay slumped over so your stitches won't get any more loose."
shin nodded quietly, and sabine hops onto her howler, guiding the white howler behind her as they make their way back to the fulcrum and the noti camp. sabine made a couple turns to look back at shin, making sure she didn't fall off her howler, and was relieved each time shin stays slumped over. her white howler is swift, but is gentle with shin.
they made it back to the fulcrum in only a couple of minutes, and sabine quickly got down from her howler to help shin come down from hers. sabine saddles her bag on one shoulder, and props shin on her other shoulder as they walk into the fulcrum's landing ramp.
"huyang!!" sabine yells into the fulcrum and drops her bag haphazardly. "is the med droid online?"
huyang appeared from the lightsaber parts storage room, halted in his track as he finds an awkwardly standing sabine with shin on her shoulder, looking at him expectantly and impatiently.
"i believe it's rebooting. i'll go and check it."
sabine mutters a small 'thanks' as she drags shin towards the medbay, the sliding door hissing open and the whiff of sanitary disinfectant hits both of their nostrils. shin wrinkles her nose, disagreeing with the scent, but made no comments.
"c'mon, let's get you up on the bed."
sabine hurriedly unclasped the fur coat and diligently undoes shin's damp tunic. she turns to the shelf to grab a pair of scissors to rip open shin's bandage, tossing the damp and bloodied gauze away. she snips away at the quick-stitches and threw them. she was preparing a disinfecting wipe when the door slides open and revealed an inquisitive ahsoka.
"sabine?"
"oh, hey, 'soka." sabine nods at her master. she then began to dab the disinfectant wipe on shin's without warning or preparation.
shin instantly growled, "fuck, sabine!!" while yanking on the sleeves of sabine's jumpsuit. the blonde padawan threw her head back in pain, before shooting a rabid glare at sabine as she spits, "a warning would be nice."
sabine rolled her eyes, ignoring shin. "i told you. if your wound reopens, i'll make the restitching hurt. you wanted my promise, didn't you?"
"fuck you." shin barely hissed it out because she had to throw her head back in pain when sabine pressed the wipe on her wound harder, groaning loudly.
"lady wren, the medic droid is online." huyang calls from the doorway, just behind ahsoka. "do you still need it's assistance?"
"no."
shin glares at sabine, borderline murderous. sabine thinks it's familiar to when they first met.
ahsoka steps in, lucky for shin. "let the droid work. sabine? a word."
sabine nods, tossing her wipes away. she sneers at shin. "you're lucky tonight, shin." she skids over to let the medic droid in to the medbay, grabbing huyang by his metallic arm, softly whispering, "keep an eye on her, will you?"
huyang nods, and sabine left shin with the droids in the medbay as she struts towards the common table with ahsoka sat on it. sabine pours two cups of tea, and slides the other cup at ahsoka while she sips on her own cup.
sabine was the first to ask. "what's up?"
"did you fight her?" ahsoka nods at the medbay.
"no, i found her like that. said she ran into a different kind of bandits and someone nearly gutted her." sabine sets down her cup, crossing her arm forward. "i patched her up, but the stitches were loose. had to bring her here, else she'd spill her whole intenstines out."
ahsoka nods, slow and processing. she sighs, and sabine isn't quite sure what that meant. "do you trust her, sabine?"
"shin?" sabine's brow quirked, chuckling. "she's harmless as a loth kitten. a bit feral, but a kitten, nonetheless."
"did she come with willingly?" ahsoka shifts to face sabine, curious.
sabine shrugs. "only for the night. i don't know about next, but that's a problem for tomorrow." the mandalorian stretches her arms up high, feeling her muscles tightening in coils. "she can have my bunk, i'll sleep at the cockpit."
ahsoka chuckles. "no, you won't. stay with her."
"what do you mean stay with her?" sabine had whipped her head at ahsoka in a speed of light.
"no need to pretend like you don't like staying by her side when you're with me, padawan," ahsoka teases sabine, nudging her shoulder as she heads towards the medbay. her togrutan master had an amused look in her eyes that sabine does not like, and it doesn't help stopping herself from getting flustered. "i'm gonna have a sit down talk with her for a bit."
the medbay door closes, and sabine groans. there's really no arguing with ahsoka at this point, so sabine heads to the bunks to clear out her bunk. she shuts the door to the bunks to change from her jumpsuit to a more casual, loose fitting sleepwear clothes. subconsciously, she draws another pair of light shaded sleepwear clothes for their guest.
sabine gets out of the bunks to grab her bag and unpack her beskar pieces and stores them properly. she scatters her armguards and blasters on the common table, inspecting and polishing her weapons.
she reloaded her blasters with new rounds, and was in the middle of inspecting her armguards when the medbay door hissed open, producing ahsoka and a topless shin, with neatly stitched stomach.
sabine had to forcibly peel her eyes off of shin, and catches ahsoka telling shin, "rest for the night. we can discuss more in the morning."
shin doesn't say much, only nodding at ahsoka. sabine watches as her master gently pats shin's shoulder in a similar gesture as ahsoka always does to sabine. ahsoka heads towards the cockpit and shutting the door, leaving the two padawans in an awkward silence in the common table. huyang had left elsewhere, probably going to low power mode after rebooting the medic droid.
sabine looks at shin, who was already staring at her. the mandalorian leaves her weapons on the common table, grabbing shin by her hands to drag them towards the bunks and shutting the door behind. shin stood like a lost puppy, half naked, so sabine hands her the pair of sleep clothes.
"put these on," sabine instructed, kinking her brows, "what happened to your tunic?"
shin puts on the loose sleeveless shirt, struggling slightly due to the fresh stitches. sabine tries not to think of how adorable shin is with dishevelled hair. "your droid took it to get it cleaned. he insisted."
sabine laughs. "ah, yeah. that's huyang for you."
shin looks around curiously, holding her pauldrons. "where should i put my armour?"
"just put it on the storage compartment over there." sabine yawned, stretching her back. "you go ahead and sleep on my bunk. i'm gonna take the spare."
"and your master?"
"ahsoka? she seems content with sleeping in the cockpit. i don't blame her. she purrs in her sleep."
shin had an incredulous look on her face, but didn't comment on it. she sighs as she strips off her pants to switch into the matching sleep pants sabine gave her, before tucking into sabine's bunk. sabine watches curiously as shin squeezes far into the wall, leaving space beside her, turning to look at sabine expectantly.
"there's more than enough space here."
"what, you want me to sleep with you?"
shin shot her a look. "do not pretend like you weren't considering it. i can still feel your thoughts."
sabine tries to argue, but purses her lips anyway. she huffs, taming down the blush rising on her chest. "fine, alright. stop peeping into my brain."
shin shuffles as sabine lays down beside her, a faint smirk curling up her lips. "i am not. besides, there isn't much to look into anyway."
sabine wanted to say something snarky back at shin, but watching shin with her dishevelled hair and face much too close than sabine expected, she couldn't stop herself from letting her gaze drop to shin's lips. without thinking, sabine caught shin's lips in hers, smirking in satisfaction when shin made a noise akin to a soft mewl. it was swiftly replaced with shin kissing her back hungrily in rushed little pecks.
"eager, aren't we?" sabine mutters in half-whispers against shin's lips, pulling back teasingly when she frustratedly tries to chase sabine's lips. she supressed a moan when one of shin's hands grips at her hip, rewarding the blonde padawan with another kiss and tugs at her now reddening lower lip.
shin doesn't reply verbally, opting to slot one of her thighs between sabine's, humming in satisfaction when the mandalorian instinctively bucked her hips against her. when she spoke again, her voice is husked and low, "you were saying?"
sabine sighed, finding shin's hungry gaze again.
oh, this is definitely going to be a long night.

lost and found - ezra bridger
Request: nope Pairing:  ezra bridger x jedi!reader Summary:  along with the remainder of the ghost crew and ahsoka, you're trying to find ezra Warnings:  HEAVY SPOILERS FOR AHSOKA S1!!! im warning u dont read this if u havent seen all of it yet Word count:  1.1K A/N: I survived the war (im posting fics again) but at what cost (brainrot has taken over)
your music is blaring through the speakers of your ship as you're working. though your ship isn't in need of any repairs, you're always finding new modifications and additions to upgrade it. at this rate, it's unrecognisable as the ship you once got from a sketchy dealer on an outer rim planet.
working on your ship is also a way to distract yourself. when you're focused on working with your hands, your mind doesn't wander off.
it doesn't wander off to hera and jacen aboard the ghost. it doesn't wander off to sabine and ahsoka on her T-6 shuttle. but mostly, it doesn't wander off to ezra. you try not to think about the fact hera is on an unauthorised mission, that you haven't heard from sabine and ahsoka in a while which is unlike them, and that you feel like you're not even a little bit closer to finding ezra.
even though you haven't seen him for years, you refuse to believe he's gone. you tell yourself you would simply know if he didn't make it. before you lost him, the two of you shared a strong bond in the force. you figured if something had happened to him, you would have felt it.
but after all of these years, it's hard to hold on to hope. you really want to. but at some point logic has to take over.
though recently, hope has sparked in you yet again. with the map ahsoka found, the chances of finding ezra have increased. you are optimistic again.
but the search hasn't been without danger. even now, you're worried.
which is why you're working on your ship. otherwise you'd just pace around or stare off into the distance with your mind running around in circles getting lost in the "what ifs".
a faint beeping sounds pulls you out of your thoughts. you get up from your position underneath one of the main consoles and get your comm.
'general syndulla for commander y/l/n.' comes hera's voice.
'go for commander y/l/n.' you say.
'hey y/n, where are you right now?'
'just working on my ship in the main hangar back on base.'
'new modifications again?'
'yeah, yeah, I know. "a good ship doesn't need modifications." well, I like them. the ghost could use some upgrades as well, you know.'
'no thank you, my ship is perfectly fine.'
you chuckle as you wipe your hands on your pants.
'have you heard from sabine and ahsoka yet?' you say. 'and when are you coming home from this unauthorised mission?'
'sabine and ahsoka are alright, we're actually on our way now. and we have some news regarding ezra.' says hera.
'you have news on ezra?' you say, unable to hide the relief in your voice. 'do you know how to find him? or where he is? is he okay?'
'we'll talk about it in person. we should be arriving soon.' says hera.
'I'll wait for you.'
'see you soon.'
hera disconnects her comm, leaving you alone with the music again. your mind is racing. they have news on ezra. you knew it, he's still out there somewhere. you're sure of it.
you quickly put the panel of the main console back and tidy up your tools. just as you pause your music and exit your ship, you see the ghost and ahsoka's T-6 shuttle getting closer to the hangar.
you anxiously await them, watching as they carefully land. the shuttle door opens and sabine and ahsoka come out of it.
sabine smiles as you half walk, half run up to them and pull them both into a hug.
'I'm so glad you guys are safe.' you say. 'it scared the shit out of me when I couldn't contact you.'
'we're alright.' says ahsoka, patting you on the back.
you pull back to look at them. they both look tired, but other than that they seem fine. sabine has a twinkle in her eyes and smile on her face.
'what is it?' you say. 'do you know something about ezra?'
'yeah.' says sabine. 'but hera should tell you.'
she points to the ghost, where hera has just exited the ship. jacen follows her, but is looking over his shoulder and talking to someone. at first, you assume it's merely chopper.
but as they walk further down, you see it's not chopper at all. it's a young man. he's wearing colourful robes and has a beard and curly hair.
it doesn't matter he's older than he is in your memories. it doesn't matter he still has the same eyes and the same scar on his cheek. it doesn't matter something in the force tugs on you so strongly, as if it has found its home.
none of it matters, because you would know him anywhere, in any universe, no matter who you are.
ezra. your ezra. talking with jacen as if nothing had ever happened. he's here, he's alive.
a sob escapes your mouth as you take off.
'ezra!' you yell.
you don't even bother to hide the tears as they stream down your cheeks. after all this time, he's finally here.
for a brief second you see his smile before you crash into him. you wrap your arms around his neck and bury your face in his neck, holding him impossibly close. you're never going to let him go.
words fail you as you just cry into his shoulder.
you feel ezra's arms around your back and get lost in the feeling. it's all so painfully familiar, as if no time had passed at all. yet you know everything has happened since the last time you saw him.
you slightly pull away to look at him.
ezra is smiling at you just like he did all those years ago. though he's older, he's still the same. still the same kid you met on the streets of lothal.
you reach out and brush a finger over the scar on his cheek.
'you're here.' you say breathlessly.
'I am.' he says.
you'd heard his voice in your dreams and memories and the recording sabine still has. but this is different. it means everything and more to you.
'you're as beautiful as the day I lost you.' you whisper.
'I dreamed of this day.' says ezra. 'thought about all the things I would say to you. it all seemed so simple. but now? I have no idea. nothing seems like the right thing to say.'
'but it is simple.' you say. 'I love you.'
ezra smiles even brighter. 'I love you too.' he says. 'I always knew I would see you again. we have a lot of catching up to do.'
you smile as ezra leans in and kisses your forehead. you'd finally found each other again.
A/N: If you want to request something, make sure to read my house rulesHere’s the list of characters I write for. Everything that I have written can be found on my masterlist. Please don’t repost my work, as I spend much time and effort on it!! Thank you for reading! Much love, Max/Marit

OOOH WIP ASK GAME tell me about Rebelvengers assemble, Graveyards and Ghost Towns, and they were CELLMATES, and even more adoption! If that's too many you can just choose your favorites from those, or tell me about something Time Heals related
OOOH
Okay so. For Rebelvengers ummm yeah I think I'm gonna ramble/infodump a little!
After the invasion of earth, Ahsoka is taken back to Asgard to be tried. As she's more obviously under some kind of mind control, Obi-Wan is lenient to her, and only sentences her imprisonment until she can be cured.
Kanan intersperses old-timey slang with vine references. Hera pretends it's not funny.
Sabine learned ballet as part of her Widow training. She first befriended Ezra when he asked her to teach him. They do ballet together now. Sometimes they coerce Jyn or Cassian into helping them out when they need more characters. They choreograph their own dances, which usually have a concerningly dark plotline involving betrayal, murder, and the death of all the main characters. Though one time they did do a ballet adaptation of Frozen (2013). Ezra was Elsa.
After the invasion of Earth, Ezra lowkey moves into Syndulla Tower. He lives in the vents for a week before Hera finds him. He admits that it's just nicer here than at SHIELD headquarters. Hera promptly invites him and Sabine and Zeb to move in... and reluctantly adds that, "Well, I suppose the Captain can come too, if he has to."
And Thrawn is a Frost Giant.
---
Graveyards and ghost towns... a snippet, perhaps?
Hera gently interrupted them, stepping into their circle and putting a hand on Ezra’s shoulder as she spoke to the other two. “Zeb, go get an extra chair from the living room. Sabine, help him to a plate.” The kids dispersed, and Hera turned to Kanan, stepping close and speaking in a low voice. “Where did you find him?” “I didn’t,” Kanan admitted. “Chopper did. We were taking the shortcut past the graveyard and Chop took off running, barking up a tree… I got there and looked up, and there was the kid.”
---
and they were CELLMATES!!
“Do you ever feel it?” Grey whispered, voice dry. It was so soft, the stormtroopers guarding their cell probably thought it was just her breathing. Ezra replied just as quietly. “Feel what?” “This planet. It’s hurting.” He almost asked if she was going a little crazy, because how could a planet hurt, but he stopped. Thought about it. “Yeah. It is, isn’t it?” She slid closer, pressing against him like she needed the contact to ground her in reality. “This used to be a sacred world, Ezra. Now it’s dying, and I’m helping to kill it.”
---
Even More Adoption! This is a VERY cracky AU where Rey time travels to the past and promptly gets adopted by the ghost crew (minus Sabine, who is on Krownest) and she and ezra and sabine have a groupchat full of chaos. Also Sabine is force-sensitive and doesn't know it (but she finds out.)
partner in crime I can’t believe you actually didn’t know You had to know, right? Sabine How would I know IF NOBODY TOLD ME partner in crime How else could you always sense when I was about to get into trouble??? Sabine Your vibes!! partner in crime vibes that you were sensing with the force Sabine Ok Well then Anything ELSE you want to tell me?????? [partner in crime is typing] … [partner in crime is typing] partner in crime we have a force bond also rey is borrowing your room [several people are typing]

my friend, my dear,, pls,,, rebels ask game numbers 1-30 👁👁 (and course feel free to break into chunks or anything I just NEED TO KNOW- I'm genuinely so interested in your thoughts)
This is my absolute favourite way of receiving an ask ♥️♥️♥️ Thank you for that!!!
I already answered 1 and 28 right here, 16 and 27 right here and 29 right here
This is gonna be a lot so let's get started
2. Which episode did you not like at first but grew on you after one or more rewatches?
I don't think I disliked any episode
3. How do you feel about the Ahsoka show being live-action Rebels season 5?
I have a complicated relationship with live-actions and I'd personally prefer they just make animated Rebels season 5 xd and I'm kinda scared they're gonna destroy the Rebels characters in that or totally disregard the show because some fans didn't watch it so they feel they can (and that they totally ignore important characters like Zeb and Kallus), I'm also too much behind all newer Star Wars shows so I don't really feel much about Ahsoka show yet, at least not til I catch up on the rest
4. Who is your favourite one-off character on the show?
Hm Zare Leonis I think, I liked the kiddo and kinda expected more of him later but he never reappeared
5. If you could change one (non-death-related) plot point in the show, what would you change?
Off a hard one, non-death-related? I guess I'd want to see more of Kallus in season 4 and more of the clones in general
6. What are your two favourite ships from the show (canon or not)?
KALLUZEB AND KANERA
7. Who is one character you feel isn't appreciated enough by the fandom?
I stay in my safe corner of Kallus stans, but I'd say he is overlooked sometimes. He and Chopper, who is like, one of the most hilarious character in the entirety of Star Wars
8. If you couldn've added an episode/story arc to the show, what would it be?
Kallus' backstory for sure, bonus points if it's an angsty one
9. Obligatory "who's your favourite member of the crew?" question
Hard tie between all of them, thank you (read: all)
10. Aside from season 4 episode 10, which episode made you cry the most?
When in the end of Heroes of Mandalore: Part 1 Sabine's weapon gets used on her people and she thinks it killed her family, I WAS HEARTBROKEN
11. What is one joke/moment from the show that always makes you laugh?
"We stole a TIE fighter"
"You WHAT?!"
Never fails.
12. Which design of Sabine's hair and armour is your favourite?
Hair: white and violet, I adore it
Armour: season 3
13. Chopper vs Palpatine- who's making it out alive?
Ideally? Chopper. Realistically? Chopper.
14. What is your favourite moment of the crew being a family?
When Zeb admits to betting Chopper in Sabacc and Hera lectures him like a mom and then scolds Kanan like an angry wife (in Polish she literally says "what kind of example are you setting?")
15. What is your favourite Kanera moment?
Everytime Hera calls him "Love" ♥️ (in Polish- "Sun"☀️)
17. What is your opinion on the World Between Worlds?
I don't know honestly, but it's interesting
18. Where do you think Ezra has been all this time?
Out in the Unknown Regions with Thrawn, camping and bonding
19. What is one of your favourite Kanan moments?
When he acts like a drunk, embarrassing dad
20. What is one of your favourite Hera moments?
All, I love that woman (you should too)
21. What is one of your favourite Chopper moments?
Whenever he wrecks havoc, so like 98% of the time
22. What is one of your favourite Zeb moments?
That one part where after the battle over Atollon they get Kallus' coordinates and he looks so concerned abd scared for Kal ♥️
23. What is one of your favourite Sabine moments?
Her training with the darksaber
24. What is one of your favourite Ezra moments?
That part when he discovers he is Force Sensitive and saves Zeb's life
25. Which of Ezra's two lightsabers would you rather have?
First one, the original with a built in blaster
26. Would you rather be stuck in an elevator with AP-5 or Lieutenant Lyste?
Bold of you to assume I'd step into an elevator and besides the point I do like AP-5 unironically and would willingly spend time with him
30. Most under-rated episode?
The Future of the Force (S2E10)

Ahsoka season finale. Time for the meme again!!
Tumblr media
And some thoughts.
zombie stormtroopers!!!!!!!!!!
Morgan's flamey green sword!!!!
I thought maybe Sabine's abilities would turn out to be more about listening to The Force not her having tk abilities. But turns out it is what Kanan said during Star Wars Rebels--she's blocked. So Sabine had no idea the extent of her abilities. In the right situation and circumstances, she was able to open herself to The Force, in ways that involves being able to move a lightsaber or force-push someone through the air. It was in fact never about moving a coffee cup--it came out at great need, in a dangerous situations. Like Luke in the ice cave.
Sabine using the force-push on Ezra made me think of Kanan and Ezra, Ezra learning how to do that, and how Kanan caught Ezra. Kanan's legacy is always with them.
Ezra taking another ride with Thrawn, leaving behind family again, only this time he's also going to family. To home and where he's needed, to stop Thrawn.
Chopper knew!!!! Before anyone else!!!!!
The look on Hera's face when she sees Ezra absolutely slayed me. I am slain. *heartclutch*
Sabine choosing to stay with her Master. It's full circle. After Ahsoka's guilt about abandoning Anakin. About giving up on Sabine's training out of fear of what training Sabine could unleash. Ahsoka was able to move past that and Sabine too moves past her insecurities and fears. Opens herself to The Force, and repairs her bond with her Master and chooses to stay with Ahsoka.
I'm not sure what's going on with Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati but whatever's next should be interesting
Ahsoka now has quite a lot of breathing room to train Sabine even further, for however long they're stuck in that other galaxy, and when they're not dealing with Skoll and Hati and marauder problems. They are going to get home eventually and by the time they do Sabine's going to be a formidable Jedi.
Anakin's force ghost is with Ahsoka, he's watching over her!!!

The ending theme changed!!! To a gentler less heavy version of the Ronin theme. Very similar, but it's changed, to fit Ahsoka's arc.
It seems like a season 2 is expected, the way this left things.

Ahsoka Show Episode 1 - Spoilers/Thoughts
I have several important thoughts that I will be giving their own posts, but below is a rundown of my thoughts watching the first episode of Ahsoka last night.
As a background for my thoughts on the show going forward: Ahsoka is one of my favorite characters (aside from the Bad Batch). Her and Obi-Wan, equal and forever embedded in my heart. Her journey as Anakin's padawan, the lessons she learns throughout the Clone Wars, her strength in choosing her own path and figuring out who she wanted to be and what she stood for, her consistent pursuit of the light and truth and justice, but from a caring, empathetic, and compassionate heart, are traits that I always look to as inspiration. (My tagline Daughter of Light comes from a pin design of Ahsoka and Morai that the incredible Pinbutlersco created). I have enjoyed Rosario's portrayal of her in live action so far, and have been both eagerly hoping for and also extremely nervous about this show. I don't think there's anything that could ruin her character, but it is nerve-wracking to have a beloved fan favorite in live action when she has never been showcased there in the extent of what she is normally capable of in animation. Plus, the live action shows have been hit or miss lately except for Andor, and my hopes have been lower since Mando season 3 came out. I think I've accepted at this point that animation has a stronger pull on me than live action does at the moment, so that of course will inform some of my reactions.
As for the Rebels characters, I love them a lot. I just rewatched some of the essential episodes and was crying in almost every single one. They just tug on your heartstrings as a little found family almost immediately, along with how essential they are to the rebellion and the ways that the show explores the Force, familial and emotional bonds, and inner struggles. That said, Rebels is not my favorite Star Wars show, and therefore my understanding of Hera, Sabine, Ezra, and even Thrawn, is not as in depth or as emotionally entangled as Ahsoka or other characters. Therefore, if you want to take my opinions on them with a grain of salt, please do so ;).
And of course all of this is simply my personal opinion and reaction to watching the show as it comes out! I don't know yet if I'll end up doing any heavy analyses like I do for TBB but we shall see :)
Alright, all of that out of the way...let's see how the first episode turned out! (Episode 2 will be a separate post bc this is hella long already and you are a gem if you've read this far! <3)
SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT! DO NOT SCROLL IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THE EPISODE YET! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
That opening crawl is super cool, and it's not a Star Wars opening without a good pan over an amazing ship out in space.
*sigh* I really don't want to be negative right off the bat, but these New Republic uniforms 💀 come on guys. It's one thing to try and show that the NR doesn't have a lot of resources/is brand new, but you could at least make them look lived in for the universe. It seems like this is the main spot where the length of the budget for costumes was apparently the opposite of a CVS receipt. Idk. Not a great look. And the ranking buttons 😭
Baylon and Shin showing up to free Morgan was obvious but still very cool to see them get the best of everyone on the ship. Baylon already has his hallway moment and we barely know them. Also RIP to Captain Hayle, he had the right idea to not trust them, maybe just not the right idea to go out and meet them.
Interesting that Hayle calls them Imperial "trash". We saw this in Mando season 3 with Dr. Pershing too...how the reintegration of imperial-aligned people back into society certainly wasn't helped by the prejudices of those on the "right" side. No matter how right or righteous you or your cause is, treating others with the same evil you claimed to be fighting against is never okay.
Also also, I still love those ridiculous elongated egg helmets of the Rebellion and the New Republic.
There's a lot of nice little touches, like the burn mark on a guy's thigh from a lightsaber wound or the lock to Morgan's cell spinning as Baylon uses the force to open it.
I immediately thought of the Mortis gods when Ahsoka steps into the temple and begins to unlock the pillars, with the figures and the map etched on the wall. I also appreciate that Dave let this scene take time to play out. Yes also Indiana Jones yes also Kurosawa yes also Treasure Planet.
Capes on assassin droids. Spooky. And did they sound slightly like Kylo Ren's modulated voice? Lol. And Ahsoka's "ahh shit" face when she realizes they're about to set off an explosion is pretty great.
HUYANG! HUYANG! HUYANG!!!! He's BEAUTIFULLLLL. I seriously can't believe how good he looks! It's also not a Star Wars show without a snarky droid keeping everyone in line, (or attempting to) and surprisingly it's not just Chopper. New fave for sure. David Tennant the man you are.
"Let's just say I didn't follow standard Jedi protocol"
I have to admit that I was hesitant about MEW for Hera but I'm liking her so far (costuming, not as much. The contacts and makeup and length of her lekku are throwing me a bit). I was surprised that she assumed Thrawn died in the battle of Lothal.
Ryder Azadi!!! and Jai Kell! So cool to see them. "Get out there and say something." "What?!"
Love the badass entrance for Sabine. The sass in this show is top notch. Also the blend of sound effects and soundtrack is really good, especially in these scenes.
NEED. LOTHCAT. NOW *grabby hands*
Unfortunately the recording of Ezra didn't do much for me. He looked pretty awkward and I would like to see how Eman portrays him in a live scene. I think again the costuming felt off rather than lived in/formed to the person wearing it.
OKAY WHOA HOLD UP NOW. Morgan is a nightsister??? A survivor? That's a rare rare thing. It will be interesting to see where Dave is going with this.
All of Ezra's helmet acquisitions strewn around the tower.
I'll be saying it more times than this, but Natasha is impeccable as Sabine. Both this current iteration of Sabine, where she is mourning and isolating herself, as well as channeling all the badass, artistic, creative, loyal, caring, snarky, cut to the chase versions of her from Rebels.
Natasha and Rosario convey SO MUCH in their silent glances to each other before getting down to business.
I kind of love the domestic intimacy of Ahsoka throwing her cloak over her bunk and grabbing a mug of tea before they sit down. Like they've done this a million times before.
I will comment on the "Master" "I should have made a good Jedi" "force sensitive Sabine?" track in episode 2.
I knew that map was doomed the second Sabine absconded with it lol.
The little "purrup" from the lothcat as it jumps off the table 😻
LOL Ahsoka being so annoyed at being in the Master position instead of being the difficult apprentice herself. Also the obvious guilt she still carries :/ "Sometimes the right reasons still have the wrong consequences." Oooof.
Not the cat signaling the presence of intruders
Again, Sabine is badass and incredible. Her athleticism and Mandalorian training is showing through. But girl maybe put on some armor??
Okay, don't take my tone the wrong way here (there will be a separate post about this): I HATEDDDDDDD the lightsaber stab. Hate hate hate. I swear they have got to STOP having people survive lightsaber stabs to the gut area. Just no. Pick any other body part to wound/end a fight with. Qui-Gon and Satine are rolling over in their graves 💀
Finally, I want to LIVE inside those credits ❤️ ❤️ The typography and design and colors are beautifulllll. And the score is of course stunning.
Overall, really great intro, it's amazing to see these characters in live action. A few qualms but I'm looking forward to where this is going.

Wolfwren x Novastar Galaxy (Drolfwren Headcanons)
+ Shin is a biter without a doubt. But Nova bites back. So when Shin bites Nova, Nova bites her back. Having dragon DNA, Nova has naturally sharp teeth. So even as a human, her teeth remain sharp. And thanks to the canine genetics, her canines are larger than the rest. So she leaves an one of a kind mark. For all to see on both Shin and Sabine.
+ Dueling is a huge must between these three. Not only is it good exercise, but great for bonding. When Shin and Sabine duel each other, their focus is knocking each other flat on the ground. But when dueling Nova, they're determined to overpower the taller female.
+ Nova and Shin most definitely are gremlins. While the mercenary uses wolf-like hunting tactics and affectionately call 'Kurs’kaded' by Sabine, Nova is literally practically half wolf so the Mando'a word for wolf suits her to a T. But both Shin and Sabine call her 'Tracyn Kurs’kaded' (fire wolf). Nova calls Shin 'Ver'verd' (mercenary) when trying to rile her up. Then Nova and Shin both call Sabine 'Me’suum’ika' (moon). Then Sabine gets called 'Meshurok' (gemstone) by Nova.
+ With Shin being a former mercenary, she's used to the hunt. So after Nova gets thrown into the mix and with her mainly being a carnivore, Nova introduces Shin to a whole new world of hunting.
+ Sabine has a squishy face (Help me find who headcannoned that because it is so true and I wish to tag them). Nova and Shin compete to see who can make Sabine all flustered by squishing her face. The two gremlins take it super seriously.
+ Shin's way of showing affection is biting, just straight up biting. Girl ain't ashamed of it. Sabine shows her affection through painting so Shin's armor pieces have been shown love by Sabine and so has Nova's armored shirt. Then Nova shows her affection through acts of service like doing their hair or helping them out.
+ Nova drives Huyang crazy. And Shin joins in 'cause it's something fun and just because she can. When Huyang gets on Sabine about anything, Shin will power him off then Nova throws him in a random spot in the ship when she's feeling generous. Ahsoka then has to find him and turn him back on. BUT when Huyang told Nova a human shifting was entirely impossible after she first revealed her gift, Nova shifted and it took Ahsoka and the two padawans to keep the drolf from using him as a chew toy.
+ When first meeting Nova, the Shifter spoke her bloodline's native tongue and Noti. She didn't know Galactic Basic Standard. She also knows Dathomirian although she thinks it's a dirty language. Sabine taught Nova Galactic and Mando'a. Nova grasped Mando'a much faster and it wasn't until Shin joined in teaching her that Nova could speak Galactic.
+ When the three first met, Shin was leading her group of bandits and Sabine crossed them scouting. A fight threatened to break out. Finely attuned to everything around her despite not being Force sensitive, Nova sensed the tension. Too close to her home for her liking, Nova appeared on the scene. Just her sudden appearance scared off Shin's bandits. Then the Mandalorian and Dark Jedi were harshly scolded in an unknown language.
+ Nova was worse than Shin when being the one receiving affection. At first when Sabine tried to show Nova affection, the Shifter would growl and bare her teeth. But when the taller female finally gave in, she became a giant lush.
+ Shin and Sabine can often be found dueling or doing anything competitive. While the two prefer their lightsabers, Ahsoka forces them to use sparring sticks. Which they still manage to hurt each other with. Shin has succeeded in giving Sabine black eyes and Sabine managed to break Shin's nose. They're not allowed to spar without supervision anymore.
+ The Howlers see Nova as an Alpha. The reason is unknown, but when shifted and wandering around, Howlers can often be found at her heels. They can be found hunting with her, just wandering with her, or merely just sunbathing with her.
+ Ahsoka makes the padawans meditate every day at sundown to get them to calm down. Sabine and Shin do it when Nova is sunbathing in the fading light. The pair have found Nova's faint rumbling to be soothing to meditate too. One time, Sabine actually fell asleep.
+ Nova and the Noti get along super well. Having grown up with them, the Shifter assists them when it was time for them to move on when they were near her home. Nova she travels with them, the Force-sensitives (as she calls them), and Huyang.
+ The padawans often go to the Dathomiri Fortress. They can't get Nova anywhere near it. But she'll go the the Sculpture of the Ones and just sit there with her head bowed for hours.
~Future Drolfwren~
+ Nova dyes and does both Shin and Sabine's hair. It was one of her acts of service and a routine was made of it.
+ The first kid is Shin and Nova's. The kid inherited Nova's Shifter gene but they're more wolfish. The second kid is Nova and Sabine's daughter. She also inherited the Shifter gene and is Force-sensitive. Then the third and final kid is another girl from Sabine and Shin who is Force-sensitive.
+ The two who got the Shifter gene did not get the sheer size Nova has in Shifter forms. Shin and Nova's child is more wolf-like in their Shifter form with no dragon wings and smaller horns. Sabine and Nova's daughter is a spitting imagine of Nova's Shifter form but smaller. She has an interesting set of regal-looking horns.

An initial character analysis of Ahsoka for the series that I think people should be considering:
I see a lot of people questioning Ahsoka's attitude and decisions and I feel like a lot of people don't realize that this point of time for Ahsoka post-rebellion has been the first time that Ahsoka has taken the time to actually reflect on everything and actually think about who she is.
To elaborate:
Ahsoka's early life was all about the Order, and then the Clone Wars where she was basically a soldier. There's a whole lot that goes into there of how Ahsoka identified and how the rest of the galaxy identified people as "Jedi". But then she walked away from it, with a heavy questioning on who she was and even up to the end of S7 Ahsoka was still questioning that. (She lost faith in the Order, but also the faith in herself)
She never got to answer that question with Order 66 occurring. Immediately everything around her was ruptured. She wasn't a Jedi of the Order, but to the eyes of the galaxy that didn't matter-they roped anyone with the abilities to be one (a skewed perception) and she's forced to hide. She's still in questioning and being hunted by the new government doesn't really give one the time to sit and figure it out clearly.
All the way through hiding and then being part of the Rebellion (all those years) Ahsoka pushed away thinking about who she was and facing this dilemma sitting in her. She just clung to "I'm not a Jedi of the Order/I'm not a Jedi" from back then and the skewed perception the galaxy still held of what it means to be a Jedi.
This is a character flaw/internal conflict in storytelling of avoiding facing one's internal conflicts and issues for x reason and different methods! (Which Ahsoka is allowed to have cause I feel like the appreciation and love for her character sometimes overshadows people letting her being able to have flaws like this or make mistakes)
Ahsoka's world was shaken again when she caught Anakin's presence in Darth Vader (someone she thought was dead this whole time and had no idea he'd turned), and then again when the truth was revealed to her. We see through season 2 of Rebels that Ahsoka still holds a lot of self-placed guilt and blame for what happened to Anakin. In that confrontation she still clings to that and her mindset of "I'm not a Jedi of the Order/I'm not a Jedi" when faced with yet another emotional conflict alongside physical.
But, through this time, Ahsoka met Kanan and Ezra (and the rest of the Ghost crew). She saw a bit of those two claiming the title of Jedi and doing things/follow teachings of before, but also they were just themselves and made being into a Jedi whatever they made of it. They found the balance. We see Ahsoka come out the shell, especially in the World Between Worlds, and take a step forward for herself when she needs to help Ezra. To help Ezra's loss, she must face her own for a moment.
Now there's time missing between after Exegol and then finding Sabine after the Battle of Lothal that we don't know what she was doing. But in the time between what we do know that occurred was Luke and Leia appeared in the rebellion with their lineage revealed, Darth Vader was killed, and the Empire fell. Vader's death probably sat heavy on Ahsoka, especially if she spoke to Luke about it seeing as they know each other in BOBF.
Now does Ahsoka face her conflict yet? No. Instead she turns to trying to help find Ezra. She tries to take on Sabine as an "apprentice" and "move forward" but it went badly because Ahsoka (and also Sabine by the implications) still hadn't faced her internal issues and that let to friction and relenting to avoid things again by breaking off the bond and going back to being by herself. So by the start of this show she's still dealing with not facing these issues, but now it's becoming inevitable and Hera is gently pushing her (and Sabine) to face their issues; together they can help each other.
TL;DR:
Ahsoka has never taken the time to face her identity issues, guilt, and internal conflicts. With it bearing down on her she relents to attitudes and mindsets that have been a pattern of avoidance of facing them/never giving herself the time to with all that's happened to her. And that's the whole point here is that Ahsoka and Sabine emotionally grinded against each other by not opening up and avoiding things, but now they're going to be on a journey of facing it together now.

What if Loki falls into the Void in the end of ‘Thor’ 2011, but lands on Tatooine and, subsequently, in the hands of Boba Fett, the Daimyo?
He lands in the Dune Sea, exhausted and tattered to the core (as tie-in comics say, his atoms should’ve been scattered across the universe during the fall), where he’s picked up by the Jawas. They scavenge his armour and daggers, but at some moment Loki wakes up for a short time and tries to use magic to defend himself. Doesn’t manage to do much, but the Jawas, seeing his Force-sensitivity (because what else should it be in the GFFA?), bring him to Boba’s palace and dump him on his porch, where he’s found and brought to the bacta tank to recover.
Here about the state of the GFFA: timeline is after the events of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’, but – DinLuke and no Sequels. Boba rules Tatooine and the former Jabba’s territories, slowly but surely getting more of the Hutt Space. Din tries to figure out what to do with the Darksaber (introduce Sabine Wren from the Rebels, no connection to the Ahsoka series), Luke trains children in his Jedi Academy, accompanied by Ezra (yes, Ezra returned back somehow), Ahsoka (not the variant from the series), possibly Cal Kestis. Also Din is like a sworn brother to Boba, they’re quite close, just as Boba and Fennec, who’s as his sister and best friend. Which means Boba now has ties with the most influential family of the New Republic, and, most importantly for this story, with the Jedi.
First Loki doesn’t show his magic, not wanting to give all his cards out. He also doesn’t say that he’s a prince or where he’s from – not to get enemies in a new and unknown place. He didn’t expect to survive, but as he did, now he decides to go with the flow and find a new life, away from everything he knew. At this point of his life he doesn’t consider Asgard as his home anymore, doesn’t see Odin as his father. He also understands that he’ll never be able to become ‘worthy’ in his father’s eyes, he feels he was betrayed by everyone he loved, so he decides not to please anyone anymore and just be as he is.
While recovering, Loki once helps Boba to negotiate smth (as he’s getting as much information about this galaxy as he can) in a way to thank for saving (and also, possibly, just becoming tired of idleness), and Boba gets a liking of him, starts asking for his advice. Of course, Loki’s very cautious about all of this, because he doesn’t want to be used again. But he realizes that his opinions are actually valid. Moreover, he talks to people of Mos Espa and learns how Boba freed them from the bandits, stopped slavery and minimized water taxes.
When Loki is fine, Boba gives him two options – to take a small spaceship and fly anywhere he wants, or stay at his palace and work for him, getting salary et al. Loki decides to stay, telling himself that it’s only for some time – get some money to move later, why not? He tries not to think that he likes when he’s actually respected, and he likes Boba. So he helps with negotiating and translating, maybe hunts down some assassins hired to kill Boba, but he also feels free to be whoever he wants to be. Also he bonds with Boba on the basis of their kind of similar background (being seen by some people as ‘not real humans’, wish to live up to their father). But Boba chose his own way, came in terms with his father’s dubious parenting, and he’s not ashamed of who he is now. He tells Loki a Mandalorian proverb ‘It doesn’t matter who your father is, it matters what father you will be’, and Loki takes this close to heart, thinking about both Laufey and Odin, that being a son to them doesn’t define him as a person. And also he says that he can help Loki to find ‘his own kind’ – he means Jedi\Force-sensitives.
Here comes the explanation: after learning that Din has a Force-sensitive child and fell in love with a Jedi, Boba decides that he can give a chance to Luke. He’s not very happy to learn who this Din’s Jedi is, but after ‘family meeting’ (Din is really surprised to learn they two know each other) he calls Luke ‘decent for a Jedi’, admitting that the Fall in a way helped him to find a better way in life. Of course, he doesn’t hold any love for those who killed his father, but decides ‘bygones be bygones’. So now he contacts Din to contact Luke after Loki agrees to meet a fellow sorcerer.
Here comes Luke, Master Skywalker. When he enters, he spreads the aura of mystery and serenity, but then he smiles – hope and faith embodied. Loki goes to Tython to the Academy, has lots of meditations and talks with Luke about his feelings. Of course, it doesn’t come easily, he’s quite close to the Dark Side. He starts liking Luke, as for once his magical abilities are not looked down upon, and he’s not mocked for his ‘bookishness’ and love for studying. So they two become friends. As repaying and also out of professional curiosity, Loki travels to find some ancient Jedi texts, gets to Ilum and finds two kyber crystals calling to him – green, of course, as green kyber means growth. Loki creates two kyber-daggers. And Loki’s magic is smth similar to Nightsisters’ magic – another usage of the Force.
Fennec jokes that Boba has become a father, which he waves off, calling Loki his ‘apprentice’, though when asked what he means by that, he cannot formulate what kind of an apprentice Loki is – Boba never intended to teach him anything in the first place, just sharing some life experience, some Tusken and Mandalorian wisdoms. Loki himself is shocked when he realizes that Boba’s become like a father-figure to him. Of course, he’s quite cautious about any feeling he feels towards all these new people, but with time he warms up to that, seeing other family\friendship dynamics, not like he had in Asgard, feeling accepted as he is. He also becomes close with Luke and with other Jedi, bantering with Ezra all the time, friendly with the Bikers and Fennec. Once he accidentally reveals his Jotun powers and finds that Jedi younglings are delighted by frost abilities – it comes as a huge shock for him, as no one cares that he’s a Jotun. He uses his frost powers to create ice, melt it and use as water (very handy on the desert world).
Here also comes the Mandalorian plot, Din’s struggle to unite people, who won’t listen much to him, especially ‘Kryze bitch’, as dubbed by Boba. Loki helps the Mandos to restore the planet (as Din is Boba’s ‘brother’, and Loki is canonically very willing to help those he cares about), so they forge a beskar helmet for him as a reward. Don’t know if Din is the Mand’Alor or not, it’s irrelevant to the story.
As a result of all this time, Loki decides that a) he won’t act as if he still wants to please Odin b) he won’t let his anger, however rightful, influence his decisions – it only harms him and those he loves c) he isn’t defined by his fathers’ actions or by his race (he starts feeling bad for Jotuns, but doesn’t know what to do for them).
Then we merge the timeline with the events of ‘The Avengers’. After some time however glad Loki is to be on Tatooine, he feels like he wants to get to Asgard – he misses Frigga and Thor. He gets home (logistics are irrelevant), helps the Avengers to save the Earth from the Black Order with his magic, blaster (Boba’s gift) and kyber-daggers. After that he tries to connect with his family, he meets Frigga, and we have a similar situation as in ‘Thor: The Dark World’. She forces him to accept them both as his parents or none. Loki is unwilling to accept Odin, having had a better example, so he refuses and calls himself Loki Fett. Hating to be forced into his previous mold in Asgard and seeing lack of even attempts to understand, he goes back to Tatooine where he’s found his own place.

I really like talks about how the Ghost crew treat Kallus once he’s fully in the Rebellion and after they trust him but on an individual level and less groupy. Here are my thoughts sorta within my own fanon:
Zeb
Zeb, of coarse, loves him to bits. He asks if Kallus can come along for missions just to spend time with him, checks up on him during his own breaks, and LOVES sparing with him mostly because he doesn’t have to hold back as much.
When he hears distrustful whispers on the base he nips them in the bud in a vain hope that they havn’t reached Kallus’s ears yet. He uses the fact that he’s the one expected to hate Kallus most to his advantage during these arguments to shut them up.
He and Kallus help each other through nightmares and find ways to help with the other’s PTSD.
Chopper
Chopper enjoys Kallus’s company which is a rarity.
He starts doing welfare scans on Kallus just like he does with Hera to make sure they’re both healthy.
Chopper likes that Kallus treats him like the indispensable part of the Rebellion he is instead of like an annoying roadblock. He also takes any disrespect towards Kallus as disrespect towards him (how dare they insult a person he likes he wouldn’t like them if they were as that person described thank you very much) and goes on a shocking spree whenever he catches wind of any disrespectful chatter.
He lets Kallus vent about his frustrations or insecurities to him as he knows that Kallus feels more comfortable around droids and therefore more open than he is with organics.
Chopper and Kallus prank the rest of the crew to a hilarious degree. The best part is that they do it so subtly that no one can possibly know it’s coming. Not even the Jedi.
Hera
Her Mom™️ mode activated as soon as she grabbed that escape pod.
The new base didn’t have enough quarters for people to sleep which was causing chaos and it was giving high command a good excuse to put Kallus in a cell ‘just until we have everything sorted and we can keep an eye on him’ was their lame excuse. Hera said absolutly NOT and dragged him onto the Ghost. All the rooms were taken so he slept in the living quarters until he got an actual room on base but it was much better than a cell.
She keeps tabs on him half so command isn’t nagging him all the time and half because she likes to know how her crew is doing.
She made him a Spectre and requests him for missions whenever she thinks he needs a break from base.
She caught him in the middle of some pretty bad PTSD once. Something that was easily fixable triggered it so she got it fixed and now keeps tabs on all his triggers like she does for the rest of the crew.
Sabine
She surprised him with how warm her welcome was. She is ex-imperial as well and knows how hard it is starting out.
When Hera made him a Spectre Sabine included him in their family portrait in her room (right next to Zeb of coarse).
She and him combine talents to make new weapons. With Kallus’s droid and machine know how and her bomb expertise they are able to make droids who can blow up an area and make way for infiltration. Kallus ensures that the droid has the bare minimum functions (walking, timing mechanism, simple commands) because otherwise he feels like he’s sending in an actual person like how he views Chopper or AP.
Whenever the crew is about to do some family bonding she is the one who goes to get him. Not because the others don’t want to but because she knows the secret spots he hides in when he’s feeling overwhelmed and needs to be away. She knows this is a luxury the Empire didn’t give him and she refuses to snitch on the spots for that exact reason.
She and him share the pain of not being able to go home because of the Empire. Sabine with Mandalore and Kallus with Coruscant both for obvious reasons.
Kanan
Kallus has a very turbulent and stressed aura around him at the beginning. Kanan just takes him aside one day and teaches him how to meditate and it actually helps a ton.
Kanan senses when Kallus is having a not too great time whether that be with work, with people looking down on him, or with high command on his heels. He comes to Kallus’s rescue more often than not what with having the ‘I need him for force related business’ card under his belt.
He recruits Kallus into being another training buddy for Ezra. At first Kallus is reluctant (“Kanan he’s just going to THROW me!”) but decides that Ezra needs training against someone with different battle techniques.
Ezra
He and Kallus have a mutual understanding of ‘If you don’t prank me I won’t prank you’ that developed after several prank wars got out of hand.
Speaking of which, Ezra recruits Kallus into his pranks when he needs a super sneaky element. Like when people would expect Ezra to set up a part of the prank he gets Kallus to do it instead.
Ezra enjoys Kallus as his new training buddy and will ask for him if it’s melee combat. He likes Zeb just fine for melee training but Kallus actively comments during battle about how to improve and Ezra just learns better that way.
Kallus sneaks Ezra any intel that comes up about Lothal. Ezra is grateful for it as Intel had banned him from that side of the base after too much snooping.
Rex
Rex acts as a pillar for Kallus when he first gets to the Rebellion. Rex reasons that if Ahsoka could trust him then he could as well and takes Kallus under his wing.
Rex and Kallus compare stories of their military careers. They find ways to mourn the men they lost along the way together and set up a day where they can just talk about them.
Kallus seeks Rex out when he’s feeling overwhelmed during work and Rex will distract command/Draven for awhile so he can recharge.
Rex sees Kallus, after awhile of getting to know him, as either a really good friend or a younger brother. After Gregor’s death Rex badgers Kallus to wear armor and gets him fitted for some as soon as they report back to Yavin.

Because I feel like we’re being set up to encounter Sabine once more in The Mandalorian, some of my more discontented feelings regarding what happened to her in the epilogue of Rebels have been coming to the surface, because I just can’t be 100% okay with anything, can I?
But I really, really do not like what is implied to have happened with Sabine in the epilogue of Rebels. Over the years, I have become more cognizant of the problems I have with certain things in the back half of Season 4 of Rebels, but I think my problems with what happened with Sabine were there in the forefront of my mind from nearly the beginning, even if it was a while before I was willing to really engage with it.
Okay. The natural culmination of Sabine’s character arc over the course of Seasons 3 and 4 was for her to accept the mantle of leadership. We’re all in agreement about that, right? I remember having problems with her shirking that role on Mandalore back in the Season 4 premiere, but I had thought at the time that, from there, her arc would culminate in her accepting the mantle of leadership within the wider rebellion, rather than merely in the Mandalorian Resistance. After all, Sabine has had Hera as one of her most important role models since early adolescence, Hera who decided that it wasn’t enough merely to liberate her own homeworld, but that for liberty to last, she had to go out and free the whole galaxy. Sabine might more readily follow Hera’s example than, say, her mother’s, or Bo-Katan’s. It would have made sense for Sabine to transcend the need for just her own people’s liberation, would have made sense for her take everything she has learned since she was cast out of Mandalorian society as a child and dream bigger than just the dream of a liberated Mandalorian society.
And she really did seem on track for that culmination in the finale. There was a moment that I was sure was the culmination. You guys can probably think of what it is yourself, but it bears pointing out here. It was that moment after Sabine spotted Ezra sneaking off to carry out his own plane, that moment after she covered for him, that moment after the others realized that Ezra had gone off on his own. It was that moment when Sabine stopped Hera from trying to force Ezra to come back, that moment when Sabine took charge of the situation and formulated a plan of action for the team—and her leitmotif started playing.
This was the moment to me. I watched this play out, and I well and truly believed that Sabine had finally reached the culmination of her character arc. I believed that this was Sabine finally pushing past all of her doubts and insecurity. I believed that this was Sabine overcoming her feelings of unworthiness and taking up the mantle of a leader. I believed that this was Sabine accepting herself, accepting the fact that she was capable of being a leader, that she was a leader. And every part she played in the finale after that moment seemed to bear this out—it was Sabine acting as a leader without hesitation, without doubt, without second-guessing herself. She’d finally overcome that block.
And then, the epilogue. Then, Sabine’s voiceover talking about the parts everybody else played in the events to come—and behold, she is nowhere to be found in those recollections, and behold, the absolutely hideous implication that she completely abandoned the fight after the liberation of Lothal, and spent the rest of the war on the planet.
No, it’s never said outright, and that’s the one saving grace of it all. But it certainly is implied, isn’t it? It’s implied, and it’s such a monumental step backwards for her character, so out of left field, that the only way to make sense of it is to look at the man behind the curtain and think about it Doylistically, instead of Watsonianly.
It feels to me like Sabine was forced to abandon the culmination of her character arc in favor of shouldering the natural culmination of Ezra’s arc. Ezra’s arc would have had a natural conclusion in him remaining on Lothal to protect the planet from further reprisals and help it heal from the damage done to it, but it really hits differently when it’s a character whose arc was never heading in that direction before the last five minutes of the show. It’s not natural, is it?
Now, I don’t have as many problems with what happened with Ezra as I do with what happened with Sabine, and I honestly think that what happened with him works fairly well as an alternate culmination of his arc. But it doesn’t work with Sabine, does it? It does not work with Sabine to have her character arc mutilated this way, because what’s happened is that the implication that she abandoned the fight and stayed on Lothal makes her regress as a person as a character. I was originally going to say it regresses her to her early Season 1 self, but actually, it doesn’t, because even in early Season 1, Sabine was still willing to take the fight to the Empire, even if she was daunted by her doubts and all of her baggage. Where it regresses her to is her pre-series self, right after she and Ketsu escaped Mandalore, and Sabine is so utterly discouraged and heartbroken by her family and society’s rejection of her that she abandons the idea of fighting the Empire for a long time, and turns her heart away from the suffering of the galaxy at large.
It makes no sense, but then, forcing one character to take on the arc of another character rarely ever does.
Now, like I said, it is the strong implication that Sabine abandoned the fight after the liberation of Lothal. It is strongly implied, but never outright stated, and like I also said, that’s the one saving grace of all of this, that it’s never outright stated in the show itself. If The Mandalorian has her saying that oh, she actually was out doing stuff with the Rebellion during the war proper, it might go against the implication, but I’ll still accept it, because it would be so much easier to engage with a Sabine I actually recognize, rather than the stranger who was dropped on us in the epilogue.
--
I write all of this both to get it off of my chest, and as a long, long preamble explaining why I am writing this. I write it because I think that after meeting Bo-Katan, the next logical step for Din Djarin is for him to meet Sabine. He’s met someone who performs the Mandalorian identity differently from himself, and by the end of ‘The Heiress’, he seems to be on the way to accepting that there is more than one valid way to perform Mandalorian culture and identity. Sabine is the next logical step in the progression, the next step after Din coming to accept that there is more than one way to perform their culture: someone who has a deeply complicated relationship with her cultural identity as a Mandalorian, someone who has done harm to that culture while also deeply harmed by it, someone whose identity as a Mandalorian includes not only battle and loyalty to her family, but self-expression through artwork.
I think that self-expression through art, always so important to Sabine’s character, might be introduced here as well. Because Din’s unpainted armor has always been jarring to me, and I think that his ability to engage in self-expression might have been just a little stifled (or more than a little stifled) by his raising in the Watch, and the values the Watch inculcated in him. Sabine might well introduce him to the concept of painting his armor, whether in his clan colors (and if he doesn’t have any at present, there could well be a scene of him deciding what they are), or in colors and designs that he chooses, that are personally meaningful to him, without clan affiliation or loyalty to the Watch entering.
There is something else about Sabine that I think will be of interest in this show, especially since she is most likely to turn up in Ahsoka’s company. Sabine provides an interesting inverse to the Child’s present situation—where the Child is a Force-wielder sheltered and cared for by a Mandalorian, Sabine was, once upon a time, a Mandalorian child sheltered and cared for by a Jedi, a Mandalorian child who was in her adolescence brought up alongside a child who was a Jedi.
I don’t think that Din’s journey leads him ultimately to give up the child to the Jedi, because that would be a betrayal of the bond that has formed between them. I think that his journey leads to him finding the middle way, finding that place where Mandalorians and Jedi can coexist, held fast by bonds of care and loyalty and love. That Sabine has all of these bonds with Jedi—with Kanan and Ezra, and by the implication of the finale, with Ahsoka as well—may well be the thing that proves to Din that it can be done, that just because Mandalorians and Jedi have traditionally been enemies, does not mean that they must always be enemies.
Din has gone out into the galaxy as the man who has everything to learn about life and how his can be richer than it has been, who has everything to learn about how his own people can be more than just one thing. Both he and Sabine are alienated from their culture in their own ways, and I’m interested to see the way they might play off of each other, what they can learn from each other, and especially what Din is willing to learn from Sabine. I know it’s not a sure thing that Sabine will show up, but it feels right, and I’ll be interested to see what role she has to play in the show.

My Problem With the Sequel Trilogy
Looking back on it, I think the main thing about the sequel trilogy that just didn’t work for me personally was how the family relationships got shoved aside. Basically, a common thread between almost all major Star Wars properties is the emphasis on family. However, that wasn’t present as much in the sequels, at least not to the extent of other works.
Let me explain:
In the original trilogy, Luke’s motivations center almost entirely on family. In A New Hope, he’s all about his father’s legacy (and also the inciting incident that leads to him leaving Tatooine was the murder of his aunt and uncle). Then in Empire, there’s the whole Vader twist, which changes his motivations to bringing his father back to the light. Not to mention, throughout the trilogy, Luke’s motivations constantly turn to protecting his found family of Han, Leia, and everyone else he cares about. Like, the series puts so much emphasis on family relationships that they literally decided to make Leia Luke’s sister rather than give the main character a love interest. And as for Vader, his love for his son is what eventually brought him back to the light. This love of a father for his son is what brought him to kill the emperor (the literal MAIN ANTAGONIST was defeated by the power of family love).
As for the prequel trilogy, Anakin’s motives also rely almost entirely on his family. From the beginning, he’s shown to care for his mother deeply, and this is what starts his whole emotional journey that leads to him falling to the dark side. After his mother dies, he’s focused on Padme and their unborn kids. His fears for his wife’s safety are what eventually motivate him to pursue Palpatine’s guidance. He only truly fell to the dark side after his lust for power overtook his desire to help his loved ones. Also, I feel the need to bring up the relationship between Obi Wan and Anakin. Not only was this relationship a major focus of the trilogy, but it’s also explicitly familial. I mean, Obi Wan was seriously shouting “You were my brother! I loved you.” at the end of Revenge of the Sith. This couldn’t be more explicit.
Then there’s the additional Star Wars properties:
Rogue One, for instance, focuses on a girl carrying on her parents’ legacy as she joins the rebellion (in addition to a beautiful story of a found family with the relationship between all of the leads).
(Disclaimer: I haven’t seen all of TCW or Rebels, so this is based on what I have watched/heard about)
The Clone Wars also seems to carry on this legacy of family love stories. Notably, there is a very clear sibling relationship between Anakin and Ahsoka (in addition to the aforementioned Obi Wan/Anakin one). The clones also appear to have strong sibling bonds with one another. Honestly, this show has a lot more of these relationships than I can fit here.
As for Rebels, the main characters were explicitly written to fit into certain family roles, with Kanan and Hera as parents, Zeb as the eldest child, Sabine as the middle child, Ezra as the youngest, and Chopper as the family dog. Outside of these particular dynamics, the individual characters have their own relationships with their biological families (such as Ezra with his parents’ legacy, or Hera with her father).
Not much needs to be said for The Mandalorian. It’s about a man trying to do everything he can to protect his adopted son, and it’s great.
(I don’t have anything to say about Solo. It wasn’t very good, and I don’t really remember much about the plot, so...)
But back to the sequel trilogy. As I said, family relationships (both found and biological) are sorely lacking in these movies. In the trilogy’s defense, The Force Awakens does seem to try to set up some of these relationships, with a possible found family dynamic with its new leads, the brief scenes with Han and Leia talking about their son, and the mystery of Rey’s family. However, none of this was really carried over to future movies, as the trio ends up separated the entire time, Han and Leia (and Luke) all die, and Rey’s family mystery is just so confused and poorly written that it has little impact.
Looking at The Last Jedi, you can see where they kind of got thrown out. This is the movie that completely separated the main trio for the entire story. It also just wrecked the whole thing with Rey’s parents, while completely throwing out Luke’s characterization as a compassionate man who cares for his loved ones by having him consider murdering his own nephew. Also, all hope for seeing Luke in a mentor/father role for Rey after Han died in TFA was dashed pretty much immediately.
Going into Rise of Skywalker, you can see some of the same problems, as Rey is separated from the rest of the trio for large portions of the movie. Except, it’s kind of worse because she’s actively ignoring the characters who are supposed to be her friends, rather than being separated by necessity. Honestly, the main trio doesn’t really get much development throughout the entire saga. Not to mention, Rey actively ignores her found family in favor of a “romance” with a man who caused the deaths of his entire family. (This seriously seems like the exact opposite of Luke’s story in the original trilogy.)
The only other family relationships I really see fit to mention are Rey and Palpatine (which is really undeveloped and honestly doesn’t seem relevant), Rose and her dead sister (which gets forgotten alongside Rose’s entire character), and Lando and Jannah (which seems to have been entirely cut from the movie). Wonderful.
All of this is, of course, my own personal opinion, but I was just extremely disappointed in these movies. I adore family love stories, and I think that is what drew me to Star Wars when I was younger. I had high hopes for these movies, but those were not fulfilled. Instead of focusing on the dynamics that have always been at the center of Star Wars stories, these movies decided to go in a completely different direction (or rather, several directions that all contradict each other), and, in my opinion, failed pretty thoroughly. We’ll always have the other Star Wars properties, but I really just wish we could have gotten some new family relationships to get invested in that actually went somewhere.

Star Wars Rebels Rewatch Thoughts and Partial Review
Okay this is going to be a bit long because I have a lot of things I’d like to talk about. When I talk about the characters and standout episodes those are mostly my thoughts. When I talk about seasons as a whole those are more of a review.
I remember first hearing the announcement that rebels was going to be a show, reading the synopsis, and being immediately enthralled and excited. I love Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, Obi Wan, clone wars Anakin and Ahsoka, but I was really interested in seeing how the empire’s rule would have affected other people and liked the idea of having a survivor of order 66 be part of the main cast. I remember this show fondly because unlike the clone wars, where I got into it in season 3, I got to watch this show all the way through from start to finish in real time. After a rewatch I still hold it in high regard and think that season 1 while not the best was a solid introduction to the characters, their struggles, and the beginnings of a wider rebellion with seasons 2-4 being great.
Characters
Ezra:
Tumblr media
Ezra is a character I have conflicting feelings about. In seasons 1 and most of season 2 the show seemed to struggle with what exactly to do with him and force him into every storyline even if the storyline would be better with focus elsewhere. This caused the show to give the rest of the ghost crew very little focus in season 1 and it wasn’t until season 2 that you got actual development and backstory for them. In seasons 3 and 4 this isn’t nearly as big of a problem and there are a lot more episodes dedicated to the rest of the main cast and they all have plotlines and arcs separate from Ezra. He also wasn’t the most interesting and, in my opinion, the least interesting of the main cast until twilight of the apprentice, which made the intense focus on him to be frustrating at times. Once the end of season 2 rolls around they do a much better job with him. Ezra is a character that I found to be by far at his most interesting while interacting with Darth Maul and struggling with the dark side. His struggle with the dark side was over way too quickly in season 3. He’s a character that I could see being a bit similar to Anakin in that his intense fear of being unable to protect his friends and family drives him closer to the dark side and this was shown wonderfully in twilight of the apprentice and steps into shadow. I was disappointed that they didn’t explore it more in depth because it could have been incredible. My only other problem with him in season 3 was how wildly inconsistent how capable he is was portrayed. In some episodes he would really screw up in ways that he should know better by now, like turning his back on a dangerous hostage and getting him and Sabine attacked, or too capable and “wise”, like when they had him “end” the clone wars and get the separatist and republic fighters to see his point of view. That last one bothered me because it took a lot of the nuance and sad pointlessness (because in the end both sides lost and were taken advantage of by the empire) of the clone wars and had Ezra, someone who didn’t even really understand what happened, resolve the conflict. They did take steps back in his development at the beginning of season 4, which I didn’t understand, and made him relearn the lesson “how we fight is what matters”. This is quickly rectified though and I absolutely loved what they did with him from Jedi Night on. His end saving his home world was fitting and I found myself sad to see him go. I’m conflicted on Ezra because I didn’t really like him that much in season 1 and a bit of season 2 and found him to be a lacking main perspective, but really liked what they did with him in seasons 3 and 4. Overall I liked him as a character, but not as the main perspective.
Kanan:
Tumblr media
Kanan is who I felt should have been the main character. His journey of finding who he in the midst of tragedy after being forced to cut off a part of himself for so long and having to come to grips with having to face his trauma to do what’s right was fascinating. I liked how he was knighted despite the fact that he was so counter to what the Jedi were during the republic and I felt that was purposeful. Kanan seems to be the template for the new Jedi knight in a way. When Yoda gets around to training Luke he isn’t stuck to the old ways and doesn’t discourage attachment and I think that could have been influenced by Kanan. Kanan throughout rebels opens up more and more to people and suffers greatly, but because of those connections he isn’t tempted to the dark side. Every time he is beaten down it’s his care for others that makes him get up. His blinding and how he learns to connect with others and the world afterwards was one of my favorite parts of the show. He has to learn to see not just the world differently, but the force and everything's connection to it as well. He actually grows to become more pacifistic in a way and learns to better understand the feelings of the people and creatures around him. His relationship with the people around him grow and change as he does especially his relationships with Sabine and Ezra. He grows into a father figure of sorts for them during the course of the show. When his end finally comes he seems at peace with what will happen and dies so that his crew may live and Lothal will have a fighting chance. His death, while I knew it was coming since his introduction, was one of many emotional gut punches of the show and I really cared when he died. Kanan was my favorite character and I loved his growth in the show. I thought overall they did a really good job with Kanan and they seemed to know where they wanted him to go from the beginning. He was always meant to grow as a person and teacher with him finally dying for what he believed in and the family he made.
Hera:
Tumblr media
I really liked Hera as a character. I appreciated that her idealism did not equal naïveté. I think those two are too often associated with one another. Having Hera be idealistic and yet have the most realistic outlook of the ghost crew was refreshing. Hera truly believes in the rebel cause and puts everything she has into it. She creates a tunnel vision on fighting for a better future because war is all she has ever known. Hera doesn’t know what to do without a battle to fight and very nearly lets herself be consumed. She even states herself that she is fighting for a better future but has never considered a future for herself beyond the fight. She is pulled back from the brink by Kanan. Kanan and Hera have my favorite relationship of the show because there is actual communication between them. There isn’t any forced drama and you can tell what their relationship is through their actions. In the quiet moments between and after battles. It was devastating to see how Kanan’s death effected her. Shutting herself off from others and even doubting the cause she’s dedicated her whole life to. Hera was always the one encouraging everyone and providing hope when it looked lost, but in this moment she unravels and can’t do either of those things. And this realization that nothing last and that her new family may also be lost like much of her birth family carries through even after she regains her will to fight. When Ezra is going to turn himself over, despite it being what she would do in his place, she begs with him to find another way and it tug at my heartstrings because we know why she’s like this. She was always the pragmatic one that put the mission first and in this moment she was throwing it out the window and acting from her hurt and desperation. In the end even when Ezra turns himself over she does command the forces alongside Sabine and successfully help Ezra free Lothal. I really liked her character and my only real gripe is that I wish they had focused on her more in the earlier seasons. She also has some incredible feats while flying and the things they had her do were really creative. I really liked how capable she was behind the “wheel” and how that was a product of her love of flying and dedication.
Sabine:
Tumblr media
Sabine was a character that I was initially very intrigued by. The fact that she was mandalorian and was at one point in the imperial academy were enough to get me interested, but the first two seasons didn’t explore much about her. When the episodes Trials of the Darksaber came around and the bombshells about her hand in Mandalore’s downfall and her family’s betrayal I was left in shock. I really liked these revelations at the time and appreciate them more in hindsight. Everything about her character in the first few seasons makes a lot more sense knowing her past. Horrible weapons don’t have to be created by bad people. Pride and arrogance can blind you and that’s what happened with Sabine, but she chose to own up to her mistakes and try to set things right. That’s what makes her one of our heroes instead of a villain. I really liked the way they handled the exploration of her guilt and determination to do what’s right. The sibling bond that her and Ezra grew to have ended up having some of my favorite moments of the show like when her and Ezra make eye contact in the finale and she distracts Hera for him to go and turn himself over to Thrawn. Overall I like what they did with Sabine, but once again felt like she should have had a bit more focus in the earlier seasons.
Zeb:
Tumblr media
Zeb was a big casualty of the shows problems with spreading out the focus. He’s a character that actually got more focus in seasons 1 and 2 than he did in seasons 3 and 4. There was a lot of potential with his character that the show didn’t fully explore like his survivors guilt and his anger toward the empire because of the genocide. Zeb is a survivor of a genocide like Kanan and I think the show should have put an emphasis on their understanding of each other. It’s said but not shown nearly as much as I felt it should have been. I did like the storylines that did put focus on him though especially how he plays off Kallus in the show. From bitter enemies to reluctant allies to friends. And his relationship to Ezra was touching at times like how he hugged Ezra after Kanan’s death. Zeb is a character that I liked, but thought was underused the most out of the main cast.
Chopper:
Tumblr media
Chopper was a surprise to me. I expected him to just be the token droid and he seemed like he may be in the first two seasons, but he actually gets a lot of development is seasons 3 and 4. Chopper doesn’t want to be put in a y-wing in the season 3 premiere and in Hera’s Heroes he’s frozen when he sees the y-wing he crashed in during the clone wars. There’s and underlying sadness and trauma there that is made very clear despite not real words being spoken. It’s also very clear that below his tough, cranky exterior he really cares about the members of the ghost crew. When Kanan dies he goes and holds Hera’s hand and makes sure she isn’t alone during this time. I loved this because it shows how close they really are. Hera shuts everyone else out at that time but Chopper. I truly felt by the end that chopper truly was part of the family of the ghost crew not just the token droid.
Kallus:
Tumblr media
Kallus started out as a character you loved to hate and cheered when he lost. Kallus was threatening despite being unable to defeat the rebels in seasons 1 and 2. He was giving a good redemption arc that was kick started in the episode “the honorable ones” in season 2 where he is shown compassion by zeb and forced to reevaluate what he thought of the empire when he learns more about the rebels and their compassion for each other. The end of the episode perfectly juxtaposes zeb being found and happily accepted back by the rebels with Kallus returning to the ship with no one noticing he was gone and his poor condition with him sitting on his bed alone and disillusioned. He is finally faced with the reality of the empire’s cold calculation and uncaring nature and the rebels’ caring, fierce protectiveness. In season 3 I found him to be one of, if not the most, interesting character in the show. He had some fantastic episodes that centered around him like The Honorable Ones and Through Imperial Eyes. I really liked his storyline and how his relationship with Zeb became a story of compassion and forgiveness. The idea of breaking free from your programming and risking your life and everything you worked for because you now know what the right thing to do is the heart of Kallus’ journey. Rebels managed to turn a character I wanted to lose into a character I cheered for and was worried about when he was in danger. I wish he was used more in the 4th season when he’s with the rebellion because I think that would have been a fascinating dynamic for the show to explore.
On a side note: One small but telling moment with Kallus was when Thrawn is first introduced and everyone is praising him Kallus instead points out that civilian casualties outnumbered rebel casualties on Thrawn’s last mission and he is told that those numbers were acceptable because he brought the empire victory. Kallus looks displeased for a split second before getting his expression under raps.
Thrawn:
Tumblr media
I really liked Thrawn as a villain. His cunning and genius was always intriguing when shown onscreen. I always felt like he was threatening and at times he even seemed unstoppable. Through Imperial Eyes showed a lot more sides of Thrawn than we had previously seen. He was a capable fighter and noticed intricacies within art that lead to him deducing Kallus’ identity as fulcrum. He was easily the best recurring villain of rebels. I never saw Ezra and Thrawn as true adversaries until the final episode of the series. He couldn’t be taken down unless something happened that was beyond his control and, at least I thought, it was implied that the force wanted Ezra to succeed in his mission to free Lothal and rid Thrawn from the rest of the rebel conflict. That the force had influenced the outcome in Ezra’s favor which just goes to show how much of an unstoppable force Thrawn was.
Standout episodes:
Tumblr media
“The honorable ones” is a decidedly more nuanced look at soldiers within the empire. “I was… I was only doing my duty. I didn’t ask questions.”  This the first serious look into the inner workings of empire soldiers that I had seen up to this point. Kallus’ arc was about overcoming his training, drive, and brainwashing that what he was doing was right. That it was for the betterment of the galaxy and the protection of the empire and its people. He was sent into a battle he believed had to be fought believing that “it wasn’t meant to be a [genocide]”. All I could do was sit there and be amazed that we were actually getting a look into what soldiers must have been told and expected to do and realizing that what was happening around them wasn’t supposed to happen, but there’s no going back. It’s already been done. Having their fellow soldiers killed while on routine patrols just for being empire. Zeb tells Kallus “you can’t judge all Lasats by the actions of one” and Kallus shoots back “well does that apply to the empire too?” and it’s a valid question. The possibility of people being forced into the empire or taken when they are young and trained to believe what the empire tells them without being given a choice or even not truly believing and questioning the empire but being afraid to act out because of the empire’s power are all put onto the table here. As well as it being revealed that the soldiers aren’t given all the information about what the empire is doing and what they plan to do in their conquest. Not everyone within the empire wants to wage war and genocide. Not everyone is beyond redemption. I applaud this episode for daring to go here. It was willing to try and humanize the empire’s soldiers and kickstart one of my personal favorite character arcs of the show. With Kallus’ arc it managed to turn someone who was initially shown to be pretentious, ambitious, and cruel and have him admit to his wrongs, defy his programming, and risk his life and everything he ever worked for to do what he now knew to be right.
Tumblr media
“Through imperial eyes” shifted the perspective character to Kallus with a very interesting choice to open with the audience seeing things through his eyes. This episode showed just how good Kallus is at being the rebel spy. He pins the blame on someone else through a series of well thought out actions and uses his observations and skills to evade capture and detection. Neither Kallus or Thrawn are depicted as anything less than cunning. Kallus is only found out by a blunder on Ezra’s part and the fact that Thrawn is a genius. The change in perspective to Kallus was a breath of fresh air. The change is tone and genre from action adventure to a kind of spy thriller works to the show’s favor. This episode showed both Kallus and Thrawn at their best and cemented Kallus as one of the most interesting characters in the entire show.
Tumblr media
You can’t talk about standout episodes and not talk about “Jedi Knight”. This episode is probably the one, next to the finale, that I got the most emotional about during my rewatch. When I first watched this episode I remember there was a foreboding feeling throughout that the Ghost crew’s luck would finally run out. The entire episode was tense and despite knowing the outcome on my rewatch I was still on the edge of my seat and hoping the inevitable wouldn’t happen. The Kanan and Hera dynamic is touching and sad. I wanted them to get around to saying what they really meant and when they finally did I was sad because I knew their time together was at a close. I still wish they could have had their happy ending. Kanan seemed so accepting like he knew what was going to happen to him, but was okay because he would go out protecting the people he loves. When Kanan’s death finally happened and the episode quietly faded to white with ashes blowing past the star wars rebels logo I had to sit back once again and let that episode sink in. Kanan was my favorite character and his death impacted me and you could tell in that moment how much the ghost crew was hurting. I really liked this episode and thought it was well done from the music, to the dialogue, to the animation. Kanan’s death scene was one of the most visually stunning of the show and that moment when he regained his sight to see Hera, the woman he loves, one last time is etched in my memory.
Tumblr media
“A World Between Worlds” was a really good episode focusing on loss. This whole episode was fantastic and I loved the idea behind the world between worlds. Finally getting closure about what happened to Ahsoka and having the ghost crew especially Ezra and Hera get closure for Kanan’s death were really well done. I especially liked when Ezra was given the chance to save Kanan and he struggles to let go and accept that he can’t save Kanan and the rest of the ghost crew. The struggle to not save his master and surrogate father almost overwhelms him and it is only through Ahsoka’s guidance and his own inner strength that he is finally able to let go and accept kanan’s death. “He’s gone now, isn’t he? I mean, really gone?” This line hit me like a ton of bricks while rewatching because there could be no more denial by the ghost crew (and myself). Kanan’s death was set in stone. This realization happens while looking out at a beautiful view at the temple and Hera has her hand on her shoulder where Kanan’s force ghost had touched her before. Ezra get one last look at the loth wolf Dume on the horizon before he fades from view giving him closure before turning and heading back to the ghost and the future. This last scene with Hera and Ezra staring out into the horizon and then turning back to the ghost after their closure makes me think that this symbolizes them looking back at the past, the good times, and the people they’ve loved and lost and turning back to the ghost is them turning back to the fight and the future instead of letting the past continue to hold them back despite how beautiful the past is and how painful the future and present may be.
Rebels has incredibly strong season openers and finales with the most well known being twilight of the apprentice, but all of them were great.
Tumblr media
Spark of the rebellion was a solid beginning to the series and did a good job of introducing us to the ghost crew. While the weakest of the season openers it contains one of my favorite moments of the series when Kanan reveals himself to be a Jedi. That scene still gave me chills upon a rewatch. It was a solid introduction to the ghost crew and gave a glimpse of what was to come.
Tumblr media
The finale of the first season was easily the strongest episode of the first season. Kanan’s rescue and fight with the inquisitor were both very exciting. The Inquisitor’s parting words to Kanan “There are some things worse than death” was incredibly foreboding and still gets me excited for what’s to come (even though I know what’s going to happen). I like it when Kanan steps up to the plate and takes out a powerful enemy like the inquisitor and maul. I still really like that the burn Ezra gets on his cheek stays for the rest of the series.
Tumblr media
The second season premiere “the siege of Lothal” was an instant game changer and had our characters come face to face with Darth Vader for the first time and had Ahsoka discover his identity as her master. The rebels being driven off Lothal changed everything that was to come. This was where the massive jump in quality between seasons 1 and 2 became apparent. The stakes were immediately ratcheted up. The rebellion was forced to flee and Lothal was thought to be lost. Darth Vader was imposing and it was made very clear that none of the rebels stood a chance against even just Vader let alone the empire.
Tumblr media
Twilight of the apprentice had me reeling for a few day after I watched it for the first time. I couldn’t get what had happened and how it had ended out of my head. How would the ghost crew move forward with this? How far to the dark side will Ezra sink? How will Kanan fight now that he is blinded? Was this the end for Ahsoka Tano? The second season finale is some of my favorite Star Wars content period. The long awaited confrontation between Ahsoka and Darth Vader, Maul’s return, Kanan being blinded, and much more. The final lines between Ahsoka and Vader with Ahsoka saying she won’t leave him again and Vader responding with “Then you will die” showing just how far gone he was and that he truly was no longer the caring person Ahsoka once knew, but a bitter empty husk. Everything was phenomenal in this two part finale. I think twilight of the apprentice is in a way comparable to the empire strikes back in that the good guys didn’t really win in the end. Both Maul and Vader lived, kanan is now blind, and nobody knew what happened to Ahsoka with heavy implications that she was dead (later proven wrong). There wasn’t a rebel victory. In a way this finale was truly the beginning of all the trials that would come for both the rebellion and the ghost crew. I still get excited every time I revisit it even knowing how everything pans out. This is the moment that cemented rebels as one of my personal favorite cartoons.
Tumblr media
The third season premiere “steps into shadow” was another strong two part opening. Ezra’s struggle with the dark side and Kanan and Ezra reconnecting after Kanan distances himself were series highlights for me. The scene where Kanan tells Ezra to let go and trust him was emotionally resonant and showed that despite Ezra’s anger and frustration on the inside he was still a scared kid that just wanted to do what was right and got in over his head. While Twilight of the Apprentice got me really interested in Ezra as a character and where Dave Filoni wanted him to go these were the episodes that really got me to start liking him, kind of ironically I’ll admit. I do think they should have taken Ezra’s foray into the dark side further, but I’m happy with how they executed it in these two episodes.
Tumblr media
The third season finale “Zero Hour” was a thrilling conclusion to the season and saw many things come to fruition. Thrawn was an incredibly threatening and capable villain. His capability and smarts weren’t undermined in his loss because his plan would have worked if his subordinate obeyed and the Bendu wasn’t on Atollon, which are both things Thrawn could not have predicted. He still gets incredibly close to wiping out the rebellion despite both of these and still survives and has the manpower to threaten the rebellion again. It goes to show the rebellion that they aren’t ready for full out war with the empire because they are outnumbered, outmanned, and outgunned with almost no advantages save their unpredictability which can only get them so far. Seeing the rebellion so close to being completely wiped out rattled me. I had forgotten how bleak the fight looked for the rebels and how many casualties had occurred.
Tumblr media
The season 4 opener is meant to show a victory after the near destruction of the rebellion that ended last season showing that there is still hope for the rebellion. I really liked seeing Sabine leading with the darksaber and her finally being able to confront her mistake and destroy her creation once and for all. Bo-Katan’s return was exciting. I always enjoy seeing characters from other star wars media appear in rebels. Bo-Katan being the influence Sabine needs to ultimately do the right thing and getting the darksaber afterwards to lead Mandalore felt fitting as someone who has seen the clone wars.

The season 4 finale is once again emotional and tense. It’s incredibly fitting that the ghost crew’s journey together began on Lothal and ends on Lothal. Everything comes full circle and Ezra and the pergil are able to free Lothal and defeat Thrawn, but him and Thrawn are jettisoned away on a star destroyer not to be heard from. The moment where Hera is desperately trying to come up with a plan and Ezra and Sabine just look at each other and nod before she gives him an opening to escape made me emotional on a rewatch and was when I realized how much I loved these characters. The series goes out on a bittersweet note showing the liberation from the empire, but also the losses the ghost crew faced and their trouble moving on from them. It’s filled with both hope and melancholy and is easily the second best episode behind twilight of the apprentice. The lingering shot of the painting of the ghost crew was cathartic and touching. Even after everything that has happened they will always remember each other and never forget their journey that we got to be a part of.
 Seasons:
Star wars rebels has a shaky first season, but I do think is was fairly solid. It did a pretty good job of introducing us to the personalities of the members of the ghost crew and established right out of the gate what the show would be about and what to expect. We knew that this would be about the start of the rebellion against the empire and we would get to see the rebellion grow in manpower, resources, and influence. It dropped a lot of hints of what is to come and what has already happened in our character’s past. The first season’s problems mostly stem from their struggle with the main character Ezra and trying to be a lighter toned but serious star wars story. The show didn’t really know what to do with Ezra in the first season and seemed to struggle to find their footing with him. I personally didn’t really like or connect to Ezra until much later in the series, which is a problem considering he’s the main character. The lighter tone was also a problem because it restricted what the show could do greatly considering this show is supposed to chronicle the beginning of the Rebellion that is seen in A New Hope and that period of time was a dark time for the galaxy with the empire ruling tyrannically. When the show went darker like when Kanan was captured and it dealt with loss the show was enjoyable, but there were a lot of light hearted episodes that didn’t seem to push the show forward in this first season that kept it from being better.
There is a massive jump in quality between the first and second seasons. The second season starts off with the introduction of Darth Vader and the Empire's “siege of Lothal”. It does a much better job with the tone and keeps it fairly consistent throughout the season. They also utilize the characters much better with many more of the episodes focusing on characters outside of Ezra and giving them backstory. It introduces a lot of familiar faces, like Rex, that don’t feel forced and that I was really happy to see once again. Kanan, Hera, and Zeb got their moments to shine and got a lot of development. This season started Kallus’ redemption arc and the episode that it begins in is a standout. I appreciated that it delved into trying to show how imperial soldiers must feel, their perspective, and the idea that they too cannot be seen as a faceless mass but instead individuals where not all are beyond redemption. The show keeps its momentum and produces Twilight of the Apprentice, which is some of my absolute favorite star wars content. I already gushed about it above so I won’t go into huge detail, but it did so much right and changed the status quo of rebels forever. This season started strong and ended strong and showed just what this show could give.
Season 3 was an even stronger overall season than the last. This is where I really started liking Ezra. Once again even more focus is put on the supporting cast and Ezra isn’t really forced into a main role in storylines that aren’t about him. Sabine finally gets her backstory revealed in two really strong episodes Trials of the Darksaber and Legacy of Mandalore. I wish they had explored Sabine a bit more in earlier seasons, but the quality and strength of these episodes make the wait worth it to me. Kallus and Thrawn were probably the highlights of the season for me though. Kallus became an incredibly interesting character and the setup for his disillusionment with the empire and potential redemption were paid off wonderfully. I love his arc and liked that it allowed the show to have an episode from the imperial perspective. Thrawn was a fantastic villain every time he manipulated what happened and made deductions I found myself thrilled and actually cheering. I wanted our rebels to come out on top eventually, but I was enjoying what they were doing with Thrawn too much to want him defeated in this season.
The show seemed to be given less and less limitations on what it could do the longer it went on and it gradually got darker with each season. This season was the darkest with Kanan’s onscreen death, Ezra’s ambiguous fate, and multiple onscreen deaths of supporting characters. This season was the one I felt was the strongest. The stretch of episodes from Rebel Assault to Family Reunion - and Farewell was easily the strongest string of episode in the show. I was consistently on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen. Kanan’s death was what I consider to be the biggest emotional gut punch of the show. I loved that we got to see each of the ghost crew members deal with their grief in different ways. Seeing Hera have a crisis of faith in the fight she has unwaveringly fought for this entire time made me emotional and I realized how attached I was to these characters because I understood how they felt and wanted them to be happy and get the victory they deserved. The series started on Lothal and ended on Lothal with the ghost crew finally freeing the planet from imperial grasp. I was happy that they finally got the victory they strove for since the beginning. In the end I was happy to follow the ghost crew through their journey and thought this was a really strong season and note to end the series on.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: “Dangerous Debt” - Review
Tumblr media
Ahsoka and the Martez sisters make a bid for freedom in an intense but arguably unnecessary episode of The Clone Wars.
(Review contains spoilers)
youtube
Following their disastrous meeting with the Pykes, Ahsoka, Trace, and Rafa are imprisoned on the planet of Oba Diah and interrogated. In a daring escape, the three women flee onto the streets and must do their best to avoid recapture. In the process, Ahsoka learns more about Trace and Rafa’s ill will towards the Jedi and may have stumbled her way into an unlikely alliance.
Prison breaks are about as Star Wars as you can get. It’s been a staple of the franchise since Luke Skywalker first found Leia Organa on the Death Star and even The Clone Wars has played with this many times throughout its seven season run. There’s just something inherently thrilling in seeing our underdog heroes forced to think on their feet and dodge blasterfire.
Directors Saul Ruiz and Bosco Ng don’t hold back either. The action in “Dangerous Debt” is frenetic, well shot, and surprisingly brutal. After several years of Rebels and Resistance, I can admit I was shocked when our heroes crushed a Pyke to death with a turbolift. Then I have to remind myself that this same show had its teenage protagonist conduct a quadruple decapitation. There’s a desperation to the violence here and it helps that all parties feel out of their element.
That being said, the fact that our heroes more or less move in a gigantic circle is sure to irk some viewers. Co-writers Dave Filoni and Charles Murray likely meant this ending to feel crushing and hopeless for our characters, but it’s hard not to feel more than a little frustrated when Rafa, Trace, and Ahsoka are once again locked behind the same red forcefield.
Arguably, this chase sequence was needed to allow for some needed bonding between Rafa and Ahsoka, but the meat of their growth happens before the escape even occurs. The revelation of Rafa and Trace’s backstory is likely going to be the moment that sticks with most viewers. It’s a shocking moment that is sold with palpable emotional hurt by Elizabeth Rodriguez and Brigitte Kali. It also feels surprisingly clunky. Filoni and Murray have done a solid job thus far laying out the hurt and anger that’s created by the Jedi’s preoccupation with war and conflict. For most of the galaxy, the Jedi simply don’t matter and that’s a powerful message to send in its own right. The decision to redirect this anger to the collateral damage caused by Jedi is an unnecessary swerve that also doesn’t line up with most of the show’s visual language. Destruction has never really been a side effect of the Jedi’s actions in The Clone Wars. We have in story evidence of the Jedi being detached and not understanding emotion, which is what makes the anecdote regarding Luminara Unduli so chilling, but I honestly cannot recall a moment when the deaths of civilians even felt like a possibility. (Unless you count the Zillo Beast. Honestly, maybe that would have been a better callback.) It all feels lifted out of Captain America: Civil War and not born from the storytelling this team has been working with for years. It’s a conflicting moment that is sold through some great voice performances and it does do some solid character work for our three protagonists, but it’s hard not to leave this sequence feeling a little confused.
Overall, it’s easy to see a restructured version of this arc that was condensed down to three episodes. I’m glad we get to spend more time with Ahsoka and the Martez sisters, but with only five episodes left now, every minute feels precious and it’s hard not to feel the series spinning its wheels.
Also, I think I can check off my preseason prediction for an Ursa Wren appearance. While she and Bo-Katan are still hiding away in the shadows for the moment, it is a nice tease of things to come and nice beat of serialization for a show that is maybe still a tad too anthologized for its own good. Any Rebels references are going to be appreciated. Not saying I want to see baby Sabine or anything like that, but these two shows are forever linked by fate and any connection between them is always going to be a treat.

Random question time! So, in the context of Alijah/Kanan/Hera/Ahsoka, what was Alijah's response to everything going to hell with Fenn and Hera?
A very late but very detailed answer!
Background:
Ahsoka and Alijah split contact with the Mandalorians pretty much from the end of the Clone Wars. Ahsoka takes the Nite Owls because she was in the process of retaking Mandalore with Bo-Katan during Order 66. They helped hide her before getting her offworld. Alijah took the Journeyman Protectors because she new Fenn from before Order 66. For a long time, he was one of the only people who knew Alijah Kastor lived since he helped get her off Kamino. She could also claim some pull with Neutral/True Mandalorians but there’s not as much rapport there. Vhonte does back her up, however.
Something specific to Alijah is when she joins the Alliance to Restore the Republic is she does become a General again. Well, “Freya Bastara” becomes a General. Her resume from the Clone Wars as a Commander then General is unparalleled. Daesha and everything Ma’Glora has to offer are major assets for the Alliance; stipulated to only work with Alijah/Freya, Ahsoka, or Bail Organa. A lot of what Alijah does overlaps with Davits Dravens’ work, however, she is much more in the thick of things. General was a more of means to give Alijah the pull she needs to work with her scattered sources across the Galaxy. It also insured her near autonomy she works best with.
Ahsoka and Alijah have it set up that any undertakings in Mandalore or with Mandalorians go through them. There’s a lot of playing stupid in requests because of how top secret they keep things. The Nite Owls, and approved associates, work with Ahsoka. Journeyman Protectors, and approved associates, with Alijah. Because of Mandalore’s current “Imperial Allegiance” it keeps their contacts safe. They’ve put nearly two decades of work into preserving and strengthening these bonds. They can’t fail now.
Set Up:
Alijah nor Ahsoka are around for the beginning of the Missions involving Concord Dawn’s Moon or the Journeyman Protectors. Since it was a plan crafted by Sabine they only really needed Sato’s approval, at least in their minds. Sato rules against taking it up the chain because it’s not an undertaking. It’s scouting more than anything.
Par for the course, Ahsoka is off embroiled in Fulcrum stuff. Alijah’s detached from Phoenix Squadron to check up on her own sources and leads. They only find out what happened because things go to hell in a handbasket.
Alijah is the first one back and it is hellfire itself arriving aboard the ship. First stop is the infirmary to check up on Hera and the others. Her features are darkened but she does put on a good face and plays nice. Hera could have easily been killed. She know how easily Fenn could have killed her. But, he was thankfully kind.
Sato gets none of the Concern nor Courtesies given to Hera. In a rare show of rank, she pulls it on Sato. She may not have joined wholeheartedly early on but she was closely associated with everything from the get-go. He’s a Commander, and a damn good one at that, but this is Alijah Kastor who fought the First Battle of Geonosis, who helped retake Lessu, who fought Haruun Kal, and who survived Kamino as a Jedi during Order 66.
It starts with a hissed: “What the fuck did you think you were doing Commander Sato? Why did I hear about this from our allies?”
There is no making things better for him. He doesn’t get to defend himself from her onslaught nor even really move. She brings him to Attention and leaves him there. Sato’s depending on the mercy of the vicious woman pacing back and forth while reading him the riot act. Current estimate is he’s got a few hours of this.
Yes, the General in her is angry at what went down. This is, possibly was now, 18 years of hard work flushed down the drain. For absolutely nothing. Fenn and his Protectors were already covertly on their sides. Now, he’s sitting in their brig with all of the Fangs destroyed, and the Alliance couldn’t even give her a heads up. Fenn’s second was the one to inform her of everything.
Alijah Kastor is possibly even angry then the General in her. Hera Syndulla is one of the Actual Loves of her life. There would be no contest on who would win in a dogfight between her and Fenn. She would have died for absolutely nothing. The fact Kanan and Sabine were approved?/allowed?/something to go down to Concord Dawn was worse. She’s buried Kanan twice in their lives; she’s not ready to do it for real. If Fenn hadn’t shown his Good Judgement then she would have possibly buried both of them and the Wren Girl. Such a great way to repay Ursa’s, albeit initially forced, generosity in protecting her. Whatever unstable peace between the Nite Owls, the turning parts of Death Watch, the Trues, and more would have been shot. Mandalore would have erupted in all out war with one another.
Alijah’s indelicate tones carried outside of his office to anyone who happened to be nearby. When the shock wore off of someone ripping into Commander Sato like a cadet wore off some action was taken. Namely, enough stuff passed around for someone to send a message to Ahsoka because “It sounds like Alijah is going to maim Sato.”
Ahsoka’s call to Alijah went something like, “While this is a breach of the chain of command you need to table the issue for the current moment. See to our Guest or I will have you join him until I arrive.”
When Alijah made the second call it was far less civil, moved through several languages, created new swears, but did have Alijah storming off to attend to Fenn.
“Fenn, I apologise for the gross incompetence that lead to this. Follow me, please. I’ll have you in much better accommodations until this is sorted out.”
There was not a single word said by her between his cell and the nicer quarters she arranged for him on the ship. Every command is communicated few transmissions from her datapad or glaring at whatever unfortunate soul crossed her path.
“Glad to see you’re amused,” she snarks when they’re both seated in his temporary quarters. A droid let itself in with food and drinks.
“Haven’t seen you this fiery since…Reecee?” He paused to think for a second. “That’s the one where you made scrap of that battalion while screaming about requisitions?”
Once she started cracking up it took a lot to stop. “We had you at Reecee? I think I called you in for Rishi.”
“Reecee was the one where Freya Bastra laid waste.”
“Rishi was where I made scrap but Ruuria was the one where I made more scrap while yelling about paperwork.” The cold jungle world was basically at the ass end of the known Galaxy. Everyone was freezing but her. “They sent me that Cadet to do…something? He was older than me and not thrilled with the Kastor Experience.”
“Wonder what happened to that one?”
“He joined the ISB and hunts the Ghost across the Galaxy.”
“Regret saving him?”
“Nah, better an enemy I know that one I don’t.”
Alijah takes a few deep breaths to steal herself for the actual difficult conversation. “You could have killed them, Fenn. You would’ve been well within your rights to kill them but you didn’t. I’ve lost so much…I don’t think I could lose them to and survive.”
His hands on her shoulder, “You owe me. We’ll start with replacing everything Fang they took out.”
“Sometimes I wish they weren’t so fucking good at their jobs.”
“Speaking of, Jarrus is one of your line’s right?”
“I assume he mentioned Mygeeto?”
“Would’ve known without that. Threw himself at my fucking ship armed with a lightsaber. Only person with that kind of crazy is you.”
