Follow-up to [this post].

Here I'll go over five artists whose polls got an extremely low amount of "yes" votes, plug where you can listen to them, etc.

If you're a fan of one of these artists and I got anything wrong or you have anything to add, please send an ask!

Long post ahead.

PALMSY

Genres: Indie Pop, Jangle Pop, Bedroom Pop 10 out of 2,375 voters have listened to them. (0.4%)

Self-described as such: "Bedroom songs from the Netherlands. Feel-good sunny energy, jangly indie pop and the breezy energy of pop-punk." Their website (in Dutch) says they're influenced by artists such as Bombay Bicycle Club, Darwin Deez, Little Comets, and The Wombats. Released one EP in 2017 and seems to have been inactive since, but two members went on to form the band Banji.

Clay J Gladstone

Genres: Pop Punk, Punk Rock 12 out of 2,495 voters have listened to them. (0.5%)

Australian. "Emo punk outfit Clay J Gladstone was formed in 2020, comprised of current and former members of powerhouses Resist the Thought, Caulfield, and Buried in Verona." Released one album and some singles in 2021-2022, but they're still active and playing shows! Apparently one of their guitarists got his equipment stolen recently but they were able to fundraise enough money to replace it so yay :)

Genres: Avant-Garde Metal, Mathcore 10 out of 2,314 voters have listened to them. (0.4%)

Los Angeles-based experimental metal band that dressed in lab coats and glasses for their live performances. Their MySpace listed their influences as "Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Tom Waits, Mr Bungle, Botch..the list goes on." (IMO, the vocals especially are VERY Mike Patton-ish.) Released an EP in 2001 and an album in 2003, then went on hiatus in 2007 (though the vocalist uploaded some of their stuff to Bandcamp in 2022-2023?) Here's a fairly recent interview with the vocalist.

Self-proclaimed "Glaswegian pop-punk samba legends" (they aren't really samba though...) previously known as We Hung Your Leader. According to their old website, their influences included Jimmy Eat World, Alexisonfire, Brand New, and The Get Up Kids. Released two "mini-albums" between 2010 and 2011, and ceased posting on social media around 2017. Their MySpace listed such influences as John Zorn, Frank Zappa, Igor Stravinsky, and Fred Frith. Released two albums, one in 2008 and one in 2010. (...there's not much else I could find about them!)

This Week in BL - People of Earth we have VERSE rep in 2 Thai BLs! Amazeballs!

Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.

March 2024 Wk 3

Ongoing Series - Thai

Deep Night (Thurs iQiyi) ep 2 of 8 (10?) - Everyone seems to be a bit of a player and I’m not mad about it. It’s nice to see high-grade flirting, and I really love how very gay the leads feel. Not BL gay. Actual gay. We shall see how it goes, I suspect we are in "messy gay" territory in which case, I predict utter carnage and that this show will drop ranks precipitously for me. But right now? Of all the Thai BLs airing, I'm enjoying this the most. How bizarre.

I like the side couple (thrupple?) too, despite the prat fall kiss and possible cheating. They very pretty:

To Be Continued (Thai C3 Thailand grey) ep 4 of 8 - oh dear NO honeychild, face masks are gross tasting!

Rule no 966 of the BL world. He’s never asleep.

Argh Achi wants Ji so bad. Nice mutual kiss tho, despite Ji's baggage. I guess Ji knew what would happen if Achi stayed? But why is he so scared? Just deeply closeted? The backstory is very high school achy and I feel like it explained Achi but not Ji. And the crying in the movie was lovely, so we totally understand Achi's but Ji is just messed up and confused? I admit to being a bit confused too. Why is Ji the one so angry?

On a totally different aside, I really like how the set dressing is done in Ji’s apartment. It looks lived in and not staged. Super rare in Thai BL. I'm reminded of Ai & Pond's dorm room in Love By Chance, which actually looked like a real college dorm.

City of Stars (Fri iQIYI) ep 7 of 12 - Why is it always the pulps that actually trot out the best communication, conversation, consent, and healthy relationships? Yes I'm still wincing over the truly bad acting but I’m enjoying their good relationship. The sex scene was sweet and tender, although the likelihood of rose petals getting stuck places wigs me out. (Flower petals + lube = terrible combination. Just FYI.)

ALL PRAISE VERSE REP! And a bottom who owns it! Yay!

1000 Years Old ep 5 of 12 - How ridiculously colorful and flirty they all are. There is nothing at all vampire about this show. I’m a bit bored by the restaurant plot but I'm tuning in for the bonkers approach to goth. How dare they be so cheerful with my precious emo youth, but also, how very Thai pulp of them.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Unknown (Taiwan Tues Youku YouTube) ep 4 of 11 - oh it’s SO GOOD. Reading the yaoi and crying. COME ON TAIWAN HAVE MERCY. The red wrapping of the hands (red thread, yes yes we get it). The boy who doesn’t want to box for so many reasons. Not the least of which is how unpleasant it is to spar with a lover.

This is easily the best BL currently airing and it is going to hurt us. But I don't care. I love it.

AntiReset (Taiwan Fri Viki/Gaga) eps 8 of 10 - This show is dangerously cute and I’m scared for everyone involved, including me.

Love is Better the Second Time Around AKA Koi wo Suru nara Nidome ga Joto (Japan Gaga) ep 2 of 6 - Poor baby thrown in all willynilly amongst a pack of queeny bitchy gay intellectuals. I'd be lost too. It's the worse kind of fight, one you have to philosophize your way out of.

Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 10fin - They are extremely adorable and it was a very good ending - mature, adult, and bittersweet. I liked it a lot. But I didn’t love it the way I wanted to.

The promise of this show, younger cook courts older divorced office worker, should have been my catnip. I mean if someone pitched this to me in an elevator I would have downloaded it by the second storey. Unfortunately, it did not exactly fulfill that promise, not in the way I'd hoped. Did I still enjoy the ride, yes, but I feel just a little let down. 8/10

My Strawberry Film (Japan Thurs Gaga) eps 5 of 8 - Honestly now I’m just shipping the two girls getting together. Frankly, I really don't like this show, and normally I'd DNF but there's only a few eps left and nothing else is airing rn.

It's done, ready to binge, maybe I'll finally get to it this weekend

What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps

The Servant and the Young Master (Vietnam YouTube)

Began Beginning (Myanmar YouTube) - A Burmese BL? @heretherebedork vouched for it, so I will watch eventually.

It's airing but...

Time the series (Tue Gaga/YT) 10 eps - it's finished now, I dropped it at ep 4. Should I bother?

Close Friend Season 3: Soju Bomb! (Thai ViuTV grey) 10 eps - I'm exhausted by this franchise and the variety pack style of BL. If there is a particularly good couple (or installment) I might watch it, but I'm letting others decide for me.

A Secretly Love (Thai WeTV grey) 10 eps - I watched the first ep but grey is too much work for this inferior of a show. I may pick up and binge if it gets distribution but for now, it gets a DNF from me. KimCop might have held this crap together but Kim without Cop? No thank you.

Lady Boy Friends (Thai WeTV grey) 16 eps - reminds me a bit too much of Diary of Tootsies only high school, not my thing. DNF unless it turns a corner and is truly amazing for some reason.

Gossip

The choreo controversy - Deep Night vs OnlyOneOf. Look, like a musical rift, or a styling photoshoot, there are no new ideas in choreo, I feel like Madonna did this pose too, a long time ago. Certainly someone in the 80s. Or whatever. Anygay, it's an ironic thing to see a Thai BL being called out by a gay-branded Kpop group when both are exploiting eroticized homosexuality for commercial profit... just saying. (HOW DID WE GET HERE?) Not to mention that BOTH are ALSO exploiting the kink community. We live in interesting times, BLabies. In the end, it's a good publicity stunt all round. And I think Nine knows exactly what he's doing (and why he is doing it). Finally: Drama drama drama around coreo? That is V gay boys. Fun fun fun, carry on everyone.

3/21 Two Worlds (Thai IQIYI) 10 eps - One of those "he's dead Jim so time travel" thingames staring MaxNat. I'm over this concept but Asia flipping loves it and I do enjoy MaxNat. Phupha (Gun) and Khram (Nat) love each other but Phupha is murdered. Then Khram is pulled to a parallel world where, 12 years ago, Khram and Tai (Max) were in love. However, Khram was killed by Tai’s dad. Now Tai finds alter-Khram apparently alive. But then there is ALSO an alter-Phupha to deal with. (Phupha is played by Gun Thanawat who was Khom, the repressed butler bodyguard from Unforgotten Night. We like this, we scared of the love triangle aspect.)

Forgive me a moment of industry noodling?

Have ya noticed that it's slender pickings right now but it shouldn't be? This is not the mid summer slump nor end of year lull. We should be getting some heavy hitters on first quarter release. (Side eyes GMMTV. Perhaps those painful Japanese acquisitions were a bigger issue than any of us realized?)

Anygay, IMHO, Thailand's BL bubble has popped and sponsor money is drying up. This is my shocked face:

Look, the 2021-2023 level of release and growth (exponential) was never gonna be sustainable, so I'm not surprised. I suspect that in 2024 Thailand will actually produce fewer BLs than 2023 (73, 64 in 2022, and 40 in 2021).

I know I'm sticking my neck out predicting any film industry but... I have seen this kinda thing before and it just *feels* like shrinkage. Thai BL's load has been shot, my peeps. (Not to be crass or anything.)

Oh, don't worry you pretty head about it, it's not going away, just getting less prolific.

What hasn’t been happening with Cellbit

Here’s a recap, A.D. style!!

Cellbit logs on, sees birds, experiences foolhalo, tells bad that foolish is a cop, makes fun of foolish for not getting paid, hah, loser!!!

He goes back to his castle and experiences his first Horror of the night, aka the gods sibling truthing so much that it’s confirmed that him and Bagi are siblings

He immediately goes to tell Foolish and Bad and then he’s like “I don’t want a sister” and Bagi shows up and then the two of them leave and argue because. Well. He doesn’t want a sister! He’s never had one! He’s always. Been. Alone.

They go to their childhood home, he’s like “I like killing people again” and she’s like “that’s chill, you’re my brother :)”

He immediately goes back to his fear room and burns his Childhood Worm. Twitter is very upset about this

He’s like “I’m super just gonna avoid her now because I’m like emo and stuff now, I’m edgy”

Eventually he decides to hang out with his old war buddy Bad and he’s like “hey I know you have a worker can I kill him pleeeeease when you’re done with him 🥺🥺🥺”

And Bad’s like “uh maybe!”

And then Cellbit’s like “When I look into her (Bagi’s) eyes, I see what I never got to have. I resent her. I’m edgy. I’m not like other girls.”

He also has a new knife. It’s in his hotbar now. He’s doing fine

But Bad’s chill now, so he leaves the fear room and Cellbit leaves too and sees a white chest telling him to go to his office

He gets there and there’s a freaky guard who I’m going to call Antonio because he definitely wasn’t AntoineDaniel in a party city costume

Basically, Antonio is the dude that’s been giving Cellbit tasks this whole time, and he doesn’t like Cucurucho. He says Cellbit is more perfect, which does NOT bode well!!!

Tomorrow is the Event, and it’s going to be a Big Day for Cucurucho. So Cellbit has to take a team in and steal something and RUN!!! In exchange, he gets information on A0 and the Eggs, which is so suspicious

Cellbit agrees and leaves, and he’s like “yeah I don’t trust that guy but we need to strike Immediately”

He and Bad meet up after a very awkward moment with Bagi, and Bad’s on the Heist Team. They’re also gonna grab Phil and Etoiles tomorrow, yay

But Bagi left Cellbit some nice things from his childhood and a letter saying she’s going to be there for him no matter what and it’s very sweet

But because this man is Very Upset, he burns everything she gave him except for a drawing from their childhood. He keeps that.

What changed?

After growing up and maturing Nina released she never even liked or loved Jeff

But Nina and Toby were different

Through spending time together they had to build this unlikely relationship

Toby found her really annoying and Nina thought he was so gloomy

So being around her felt peaceful

They’re mainly brown, black, dark blue all neutral colors because Toby’s plain like that

She gave him emo hair but it looked professionally done it’s so clean

Toby’s honestly impressed

Nina thinks he looks so hot with emo hair especially when he wears plain black shirts or shirts with bands he likes on them

She’s now trying to get Toby to let her dye his hair pink and black to match hers

Now they both have canine bites, septums, eyebrow piercings and a bunch of ear piercings

Nina makes Toby candi bracelets and Toby puts them on his hatchets

Toby will take Nina shopping with money he stole and saved up from victims

Goes with her every time because he doesn’t want her to get harassed

Super protective of her, just like he is with all the women he loves

No one can make fun of Nina’s fashion except for him

Nina definitely sings rap songs like sexy red and Meg the stallion to him as a joke

Toby just tolerates it

Toby is still, blunt, rude, obnoxious and cynical but tries to tone it down around Nina

All he does is roll his eyes and let her

He wasn’t doing anything with them anyway

Even though Toby is 29 and Nina’s 27 they feel like happy teenagers with each other

This is what their lives should’ve been together if the world was kinder to them

Just 2 people in love, hanging out listening to music, together, shopping together, going out to eat together

Nina being scemo is healing her inner child

Toby loving her true authentic self is healing her inner child

Toby tries to do the same by wearing more comfortable sweaters and trying to break the habit of picking at his skin

Nina loving him despite all his problems is healing his inner child

This is how life should be

- (ngl i can barely type so this is about to be good) a pro. he even knows smoke tricks and becomes pretty balsey when high (he smacks jeff and beats him in a fight, too, right before jeff greens out). he likes his mask on bc having red eyes embarrasses him 😖 toby and masky definitely make jokes about hoodie’s mask always having red eyes or shit like “your eyes are as fucking red as your masks’ ” to make him paranoid. - took too many edibles the first time (like 150mg) and had intense psychosis while they hit🤥 (ik he’s alr psycho but pretend it makes sense 4 now) makes his own candy edibles since candy is his shit so he sometimes hands them to ben without telling him theyre edibles since ben loves the surprise high (ben’s a fiend and even kills while high a lot, actually). chuckle jack lights candles, puts on red and purple lighting, and plays “freak show” by punkinloveee and other gorecore/emo hyperpop. he’d ask you to watch some disturbing ass movies with him while high and he’d act like it’s a comedy (he scary bro even when stoned 😕) you’d end up somehow taking care of him yet he’d continuously make u blush and get nervous😩 (let me be delusional)

High School PriChan the Musical, Part 2!

By popular demand!

So, as I mentioned before, Part 2 of the High School PriChan virtual musical (originally streamed on 3/9/2024) was a lot more dense than the first. All you really need to know about Part 1 is that Miracle Kiratts, Meltic Star, Ring Marry, and Daia were kidnapped and brought to a high school in space by Sadame Ginga for a mysterious purpose.

And so, our story begins exactly where we left off. They even open the show in the same exact way as part 1, with a reprise of the original song High School Challenger.

After the opening song, the girls discuss their upcoming Culture Festival (which has an overcomplicated name that Sadame keeps changing) and predict that Sadame Ginga will just appear and tell them it's happening all of a sudden without them actually having planned anything.

And guess what happens!

But they are all used to it by now.

So, what does everyone actually do for the Culture Festival?

Could it be, performing a live!? (They have done nothing else at this "high school" so far...)

So we have another string of performances, the most interesting of which is again Daia's. Just as she's about to begin, the screen starts glitching out and she is joined by her other self to form Double Daia. Together they perform Forever Friends! Yes, the MyChara Zuttomo song from PriPara!

Daia just covered Heart Iro Tori Dream in the last installment, so I don't know why she gets all the surprise covers but YAY DAIA!!!

The mascot Daia leaves and we reach the "climax" of the Culture Festival: the MyChara runway! Well, they call it a runway but it's actually a conveyor belt. (I don't know why they couldn't do the usual runway animation?) And so, the MyCharas of everyone who paid to get in are all wheeled out and do a pose at the end of the conveyor belt. How very exciting, for everyone who got in that is. This part seemed to drag on forever though... But well, I guess it was kinda neat seeing all the various season 3 coords I never got to see before.

After the runway, so much "sadame iine" has been uniquely gathered that Sadame Ginga insists they put on a special performance that has never been seen before. If so, a miracle might occur!

All of a sudden, Mel, Mirai, and Rinka start talking about some kind of a special group they once took part in, in a different world. This is all very confusing in universe, but it's Run Girls Run. They are talking about Run Girls Run.

So, the three of them perform Brand New Girls!

This leaves Emo, Sara, and Anna watching on the sidelines... leading Sara to suggest to Emo, hey, why not perform with us? It turns out that when Meltic Star was just Anna and Sara, they had considered inviting different members from Miracle Kiiratts to join them. Anna was apparently particularly interested in performing with Emo, Sara discloses. They had prepared songs that they could perform with Mirai and Rinka as well, but the first one they wrote was for Emo!

And so, they invite Emo to perform that song right here, right now!

Emo is a bit freaked out since she doesn't know the song, but Sara insists all she needs to do is study the lyrics and she will be fine. Anna has studied Emo's dancing style and created the moves to fit her perfectly, after all...

So, "Emotic Star" (or "Anna, Sara, Bananas" as Anna calls them, composed of three fellow members of iRis) perform the Valentine song Choco Tea Cocho Heart (a Meltic Star arcade song).

After this performance, the "sadame iine" is maxed. Sadame brings up a special monitor resembling a sliding puzzle showing possible fates of the universe and announces they now have the power to change destiny!

Naturally, the girls are taken aback to find out that this is what they have been performing for all this time. They demand Sadame explain.

And so, Sadame takes them to the superintendent and principal's office, her Sadame Room. Here, Sadame explains how she came to possess a record of the entire history of the universe, past and present.

"Oh? A record? That's what my grandma used to listen to music!" says Emo.

No, not a record. Sadame only uses the latest technology.

A VHS tape.

And it's recorded in extended play!

And, after studying said tape, Sadame had discovered that the disaster that killed the dinosaurs was about to return once more. But this time, a direct hit! Our galaxy, which just happens to be shaped like Kirachu, is about to hit another galaxy, which also happens to be shaped like Kirachu.

The girls are naturally distraught that the entire world is about to be destroyed, but Sadame announces she won't allow it. So, as it turns out, despite her scary appearance and forceful methods, Sadame did not have a nefarious reason for kidnapping the girls at all. She's been trying to save the world through PriChan all along!

Sadame then begins the performance she thinks will save the world (a reprise of her solo from the last show, "Face your Fate").

However, she is unsuccessful as her performance is suddenly interrupted as the two galaxies seem set to collide! Sadame is distressed as this wasn't supposed to happen, and the curtains close!

But, Mirai steps in to remind her that creating this high school and bringing everyone together was not useless because it allowed them to meet. Emo and Rinka agree with Mirai, and Meltic Star tell Sadame she's given up too soon. Everyone chimes in with the usual PriChan spirit of not giving up, and giving everything a try!

After a quick intermission with the mascots, we return to find the negative Kirachu galaxy (which Emo nicknames Urachu) has appeared on the horizon. Maria tries to push it away with cuteness only for Suzu to inform her she's just gonna pull it in it closer!

Sadame falls to her knees, lamenting that everything she did was useless.

Mentioning this brings up all their old PriChan memories, which were also included on the VHS tape. Emo and Mirai reminisce about their debut with Ready Action and what the song means to them. They were scared, but they had to try, and this song cheered them on.

"Let's do it! Let's try!" says Mirai as she holds out her hand to Sadame.

Sadame takes her hand, and the two perform Ready Action!!

Sadame's sadame meter is full, but she knows she will just fail like last time if she tries again. They need a way to collect even more iine. More than ever before.

Just as everyone is feeling down, they hear a voice from above. It's Alice! And Eve! They have been keeping tabs on the situation but due to a time lag, were just a little late in contacting them. They inform them with the use of Mel's parents' technology and a special performance on a special stage, they can change sadame iine into galaxy iine! However, they need to be in view of the Earth (the school is on the dark side of the moon).

Solulu and Luluna then appear to help as well (Note: Alice, Eve, Solulu, and Luluna don't have models, they are just communicating on a screen with static images) and send the girls their Illuminage coords. Miracle Kiratts performs, which sends everyone traveling on a shooting star to where they need to be!

(Or so we hear, in another intermission with the mascots.)

The mascots, with the help of mascot Daia, change into their idol forms and go to help as well!

Then, with no segway whatsoever, we are with Anju. Anju performs Fortune Karat in space.

Meanwhile, the other girls have arrived closer to the earth, where they need to be to accomplish the performance that will gather everyone's galaxy iine and change destiny.

I'd like to note that, although Sadame does not get an Illuminage coord, she's like... significantly more sparkly now.

Also, the girls realize the stage they have arrived on is actually Hakucho, Anju's mascot, transformed! So that's what Anju was doing? GoGo Mascots and the other Daia arrive too! Together they form the supergroup, Super Galaxy Miracle Star!

A group which can change destiny!

Super Galaxy Miracle Star performs the musical theme, High School Challenger (third performance of this song overall).

(Wait, I just noticed that even though they made a point about her showing back up, mascot Daia wasn't in this performance?? ??????)

And so, by the power of PriChan and its followers, the Earth, no, the GALAXY is saved once more.

Anju, Alice, and Eve reflect on the power of PriChan and Alice and Eve hope to perform with Solulu and Luluna someday. Anju tells them that the future exists to give us possibilities.

Sadame apologizes for her forceful ways of getting everyone involved in all of this, but they all forgive her since, after all, they had fun! They thank Sadame, saying they could not have done it without her. But Sadame says she should be thanking them for teaching her about the real power to change the universe (giving everything a try)!

The others ask Sadame if she is going to return to the school (to which transportation is fixed now, I forget at what point the robot got broken...), and she says of course. She is, after all, the superintendent, the principal, the student council president, the culture festival chair... (etc).

The other girls will all be returning back to their own respective high schools on Earth, but they decide this isn't goodbye. They are all connected by PriChan!

Sadame, who still feels responsible for the fate of the universe, will return to studying the updated VHS but also go on a journey to the center of the universe. Surely, she will discover the secret of the fate of everything there!

The others question if that is possible, but she reminds them what they taught her. You'll never know if you don't try!

The curtains close as Sadame is sure they will meet again!

The curtains open again with the girls back in their respective high school uniforms, ready to again try and perform the musical they were trying to perform in the last show before Sadame interrupted by kidnapping them and bringing them to space. But this time the mascots are with them too!

Suddenly, they hear something. Could it be...?

It turns out Sadame has given up on embarking on her journey... by herself. Instead, she will be using Hakucho, who can apparently travel faster than the speed of light and communicate back virtually.

So, now Sadame can visit whenever she wants! Except she does still have responsibilities at her school. She, after all, is the superintendent, the principal, the school council president... And she does have to analyze the data from Hakucho as well.

For now though, she is here! And will participate in the musical as well! It's her destiny!

And so, the curtains close for the final time as the real musical supposedly begins...

The end.

What a wonderful little thing. It was nice to be able to check in on everyone during their high school life, and meet a completely new PriChan idol character. You may have been able to tell already by reading this, but I really liked Sadame's arc, and seeing her finally smiling and enjoying herself performing with Mirai was my favorite part! Also, they threw a whole lot of fanservice for Emo/Anna shippers in here as well hehe.

I hope they keep doing these virtual musicals! I wouldn't be surprised if PriMagi or King of Prism is next!

monster high fans!! especially monster high fans who like jackson and holt!!

so, it’s come to my attention that a lot of people don’t actually understand the canon reasons that the transformation takes place, and that’s okay, don’t worry! not everyone has a musical education, so i’ll just write you guys up a post so that you can understand the same way that us musicians do! <3

first of all, let’s recap the exact reason for the transformation, stated multiple times in canon material: music with a 4/4 time signature played in excess of 90 decibels.

let’s break this down!

starting with the 90 decibels, so we can leave the more complicated stuff for later:

90 decibels is the noise level at which you are advised to begin wearing protection. it is about the sound of a leaf blower or an average concert (the writers did a good job googling for this one!).

(HoH!J&H headacanoners, come get your food 😉)

however, since this is a requirement for the transformation, jackson can listen to any 4/4 music that is under 90 decibels! which is cool, but also contradicts webisode and movie material… i mean, come on, clawd’s phone is at most, an iphone 5, which only plays music at 81.5 dB (though modern iphones play up to 115 dB, so I guess that we can just call their technology ahead of their time? lol).

headphones can reach up to 100 dB, so i’m not surprised that j&h’s transformation is triggered using them.

anyway! most of the time, music is not played in excess of 90 dB. therefore, jackson can listen to anything he wants without jeopardizing his existence so long as he remains within a certain degree of sound. yay! jackson can still be an emo boy

secondly! a 4/4 time signature. now, what does this mean?

a lot of people get confused and figure that a time signature is referring to the BPM (beats per minute) of a song. while BPM is used in music, it is not used in this way. common BPMs for modern music are between 60 BPM (reggae) to 290 BPM (charleston dance music), though the average top range of BPM is around 160-180 BPM.

none of that matters to jackson! the BPM of a song has zero affect on whether or not they will transform, so again, jackson can listen to whatever music he wants to.

now, what is a time signature, then, if it isn’t the BPM.

well…

the time signature is the amount of beats by the kind of beats in each measure. so, for jackson, it would be four (numerator) quarter notes (denominator) per measure: a 4/4 time signature!

most songs are in 4/4 nowadays, because it’s just very common and easy to wrap your head around. however, there are some popular songs that are in other time signatures, for example:

- Nothing Else Matters - Metallica (3/4 Time Signature)

- When the Party’s Over - Billie Eilish (3/4)

- Idontwannabeyouanymore - Billie Eilish (3/4)

- I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll - Joan Jett and The Blackhearts (2/4)

- Baa Baa Blacksheep and The Wheels on the Bus ;) (kidding, but they are in 2/4)

So, i just guess that my point is that Jackson does not need to go completely without music. He has a lot of music that he can listen to in a lot of situations, as per the laws of canon.

That is really not fair BCA. The spotlight should be on the students. He has the right to take a break from social media. I hope he is somewhere enjoying some down time.

Two contradicting opinions.

Listen, I don't care why he founded the initiative, and he can have all credits and accolades for it. What matters in the end are these students that get an opportunity to make their project and ideas come to live. That is the main thing that matters (to me at least).

I don't know if you both (and anyone here commenting or reading this post) has followed the project from the point where they won the award? Look it up 3rd of April he announced the winners of the award on his IG with a post. His face up front and he got some nice articles in the news papers (so much for putting the spotlight on the students). I don't care, as said, he can take the credit for it, all fine for me.

But did anyone followed the project? Did he followed it at all? They have an IG page, they regularly posted updates about the ongoings of the project. I followed it, as I was interested. Quite nice to see how these students went along and worked hard on their creation. But I also saw he didn't even follow the project on IG. From all the 2765 accounts he follows, he couldn't follow this one account? All the time since 3rd of April, not one like not one comment not even his favorite emo (🙌) on one of their posts. While he can like and comment on all the SBSs (SamBoozeShrines) all the time, even now for some days I saw several (so much for a break from social media).

Oh and for the ones commenting on my previous post that it might be because of the strike... c'mon, just take a look before you write such things. They're students, in Scotland, they have their own independent Scottish based filmstudio. Saying he can't post about it (or like or comment) because of the strike is flat out BS (excuse my French)

I waited all day yesterday, to see if he would at least congratulate them on the premiere for their project. How easy to at least have reposted their story

But nothing... so really tell me how am I to understand his words on his post of April announcing the winners...

"I can't wait to see how their films develop!x"

Right, yet nothing, nothing at all. A simple story would not be making it about himself, it could have put the spotlight on these students that worked hard on this project. In fact, not showing any interest whatsoever, is more confirming the ones that say he does this only for his ego. It's not me wanting that, I so wished I could tell you the opposite, that he was following them, liked a post or left a comment. I would've told you, yay he is interested. But I can't! I simply can't! I even wonder if he followed it at all and was aware of their premiere.

Yes, go ahead, not everything is on social media. And that is also not what I'm saying, but gosh, if he was really actively following their ongoings and in contact with them, imo he surely would have liked now and then a post or left a 🙌 , especially on their last post getting the premiere last night. So to me it's totally not credible he was following things in private.

I also don't say he needed to be there. All I say is a simple like, comment or a repost of their premiere wouldn't have harmed him (on the contrary), it wouldn't even take a minute to do. I'm all for him having his rest, even though it wasn't all working we saw he did already. I'm all for it him having some down time. But thinking he's having a social media break, he doesn't, he scrolling and liking as always. And a little repost or like for these students I think would have been fair if he was so interested that he couldn't wait to see their films develop!x

persona 3 music headcanons

(yay)

i’m taking in the time period the game takes place. (2009-2010ish) also. idk what type of music was popular in japan, so i’m just going off of western music :^)

Makoto

Ok. so i might be projecting a bit on this one, but he listens to early 2000’s emo/grunge/rock music.

A few bands i’m specifically thinking: mcr, deftones (i know im sorry but cmon), green day, maybeee the cure idk

He’ll really listen to anything though. if he doesn’t like something that’s put on he won’t say anything to the person. just. internalize how much he hates it

Makoto also listens to instrumentals. he likes to turn his brain off and do stuff around the dorm or just sit in his room. songs with lyrics sometimes are too overwhelming in those specific instances

Junpei

Junpei definitely listens to bands like Linkin Park and The Offspring. Maybeeee some rap here and there too

“SHAWTYS LIKE A MELODY IN MY HEAD” (thinks of Chidori when he listens to that song)

He def has “concerts” in his room where he blasts his music and sings obnoxiously loud

I feel like he’d also secretly like some pop music, but he’d never admit it

Yukari

She listens to whatever’s popular at the moment but she definitely has some favorite bands/artists

Mainly listens to female artists (P!NK? maybe avril lavigne)

Lovesss pop music and love songs (Junpei teases her for liking love songs and it makes her SO MAD)

Aigis

Aigis doesn’t really care what music is playing. But she has a tendency to… over explain things about the music.

Will give unnecessary info about the artist that is currently playing

She’ll also try to find songs she thinks the others will like based on the stuff they play around her

Shes basically like the DJ thing on spotify

Fuuka

I can see Fuuka liking music with lots of different instruments. But also liking softer songs (idk if she’d listen to this band but my first thought was songs like Never Shout Never makes)

Prefers live recordings and acoustic versions of songs

She usually lets the others pick out music when they’re listening together and generally likes anything (unless it’s super heavy)

Her and Yukari like a lot of the same music. Junpei also tries to get her to listen to more rock

Akihiko

Aki doesn’t really listen to music… He either does things in silence or turns the radio on a random station

He goes to Power Records and buys CDs based on the cover art

If someone plays a song and he likes how it sounds, he’ll awkwardly go up to them and ask them what the song is called

Mitsuru

Mitsuru is a bit hard to place for me. But I feel like she would mainly listen to classical music (on the rare occasions she does listen to music)

She doesn’t have CDs, a radio or an MP3 player. But she definitely has a record player and collects records

Like Fuuka, she’ll usually let the underclassmen pick out music to play and some of the lyrics make her question the things they’re into…

Shinji

Shinji listens to very very very underground stuff. (can’t decide if he would listen to 90s rock or not.)

He tried to show his music to Aki ONE TIME. Aki immediately hated it

No specific bands or songs rlly come to mind

I imagine the stuff he likes is … very hard to listen to :)

He also hates pop music with a passion

Kotone

She’s like a mix of Yukari and Makoto

The type of person to listen to anything… ANYTHING. and most likely enjoy it

Kotone is also one of the only people who actually likes Shinjis obscure ass music

Ken

Ken. Idk.

He seems like the type to not really care about music honestly

Just. Listens to whatever the others put on without much objection

That finished its run? Sorry I don't keep that close track of things ending but stuff I loved that ended relatively recently as follows. (I'm giving you a range of styles to suit your mood.)

Felling light and fluffy?

Jun & Jun

(Korea Viki)

A delightful office romance about an ex-idol who joins cubical life only to find his new boss is his first love. Others boys are sniffing around too. Operative word being "sniffing" as much of this romance involves smell. With a snappy (sometimes even raunchy) script, enjoyable sides, a pretty as peaches cast, and descent chemistry this show made up for in style what it lacked in substance. I like fluff. I loved this. I smiled every moment I was watching. With tons of rewatch potential (especially the last few eps), my only caution is this is for fans of the BL genre only, I don’t think it’ll work for anyone else. 9/10

Feeling complex and drama llama?

I Feel You Linger in the Air

(Thailand grey, YT for some)

I truly loved this time travel romance. IFYLITA is an exquisite BL, from filming techniques to narrative framework (much like Until We Meet Again). Steeped in history and family drama it edges into lakorn (but no as much as To Sir With Love and with way less scenery chewing). This is an elegant and classy BL… from Thailand which normally doesn't even try for classy. The main couple (both as a pair and individuals) were excellent, particularly Bright (Yai) whose eye-work acting style is a personal favorite of mine. Pity about the ending. Oh it wasn’t that sad but it wasn’t good either. This show should easily have earned a 10 from me except that it fumbled the… erm… balls. Argh. Whatever. 9/10

(Korea iQIYI)

Korea decided to remake, of all possible Thai BLs, Why RU? And that is exactly what we got: a short form, clean & pretty, slightly confusing, uneven chemistry, all the same tropes KBL that kind of cliff-noted the original but with none of the heat or complex relationship dynamics. I just … what world is this? Because it is BOTH bizarro land, and EXACTLY what I expected. How do I rate it? In the end I have to go back to simple questions: did I like it, would I rewatch it, and would I recommend it? Yes. Probably. And probably not. What the actual hell? 8/10

Feeling dark and complex?

Tokyo in April is AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa

(Japan Viki)

Two young men with a shared tragic past reunite and fall in love all over again, but the past will not stop hunting them. Based on a manga, this office set reunion romance is GREAT… damn it. It’s Japan in full on soft focus which means it gets emo, abusive, and chewy. These two characters are giving parts of their souls away in a desperate attempt to shape themselves to the expectations they have of each other. Japan gave us the Bed Friends that Thailand could never even imagine. But here’s the thing: I don’t enjoy my BL this heavy and cutting. I know that for The 8th Sense crowd this is peak BL and I can’t argue with the fact that the romantic devotion, domesticity, script, and acting IS all on point. It’s just not my personal preference for that point to be so damn sharp. I appreciate that this being 2023 I have the luxury of consistent quality (especially from Japan) and thus the ability to say… I acknowledge that this SHOULD get a 9/10 but I can’t emotionally go higher than 8/10

Stay By My Side

(Taiwan Viki)

This show was an interesting take on the "ghost boyfriend" trope. About a boy who is tormented by hearing the dead, except when he is around one other boy - desperation+proximity = love. Unfortunately, the story was erratic and waffled about. While the leads turned in solid performances and the sappy domesticity was off the charts, it never really had the strength of the narrative convictions such a strong concept should have supplied. Highly rewatchable and enjoyable for that sappy domesticity but not a whole lot more. Still I always give extra credit for the diabetes-inducing sugar content and rewatch capacity. 8/10

Feeling sexy?

My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho

(Japan Gaga)

I liked it a lot and it's classic yaoi of the kind that really only works from Japan. Basically: boys who fell in love in college end up living together but both are so repressed they actually don't realize they're in love. It's higher heat from Japan and well done, but it leaned into the "why don't they just talk for fuck's sake?" trope which is only exacerbated into undiluted frustration by the fact that they're already fucking. It's good, but watching requires more patience than usual, even from Japan. 8/10

This a cute coming of age drama around music and 2 kinds of self acceptance and actualization journeys. This was basically Korea’s version of About Youth, and was perhaps a bit too soft and ungrounded by comparison, like a marshmallow sculpture. Sweet but somewhat lacking in discernible flavor. 8/10

Nancy and Mike headcanons?

Yay!! I'm getting asks!! Keep em coming!!

Mike:

• He had an Emo phase. Full blown emo, maybe he got it from from Eddie.. but who knows. He still has his old gutair in his closet from when he thought he would become a rockstar.

• "I'm not prostituting my sister." -Mike, Season 2. This says it all, he really does care about her, no matter what it might seem.

• He will ask her to bring him and the party snacks, then will call her a "Wench" when she brings them to the basement.

• Had to thoroughly warn Dustin to quit lusting after his sister or "You will be sorry."

• He totally had a pyro phase. Ted and Karen definitely thought he was having sex, but turns out the candles were just for lighting and snuffing out.

Nancy:

• She isn't afraid to scream at him. Just screech. No words, just the highest pitch she can muster, top of her lungs, like a little girl.

• 100% stole that pistol from her dad after he said he was gonna take Mike hunting. She didn't want him getting hurt so she hid it in her closet until her dad gave up on the idea.

• Kicked Troy's ass after Mike told her about what he did on the cliff.

• Has offered to drive him to school which he refuses because "I'm not five."

• Nancy had a good long talk with Eddie after finding out how old he was because she didn't really want her 16 year old brother to be handing out with a 20 year old man. (Turns out he's chill)

As Siblings:

• As I've posted I head canon them as having an older brother "Robert 'Rob' Wheeler," read it (here on AO3) and (here on Tumblr). Holly isn't a part of that family in my brain. So no more middle child Mike (even tho it fits him) Now there's middle child Nancy, (which also fits her I think.)

• They fight, both verbally and physically. They will get into a wrestling match.

• They don't really like water, pools aren't their thing.

• I've always Head Canon'ed the Wheelers as a little more wealthy than say Dustin or Lucas's family, so I imagine the Wheelers are the type to pay for outings and fun stuff on the weekends. They get pizza and house the sleep overs.

• They have definitely had some break downs together. Over things like relationships, bullying, expectations, responsibilities, society, and it's standards. After all the crying and hugging, they came to the conclusion that all that didn't matter as long as they had eachother.

• They love spicy food and will eat it every meal if they can.

• They have never once "wanted" to hang out with eachother, but every time they have, it's been the best day of there life.
