I just saw the shooting scene for the first time and I’m in literal shambles,,, the camera work for the angle of them looking at each other, the way Buck looked at Eddie as he was bleeding out, the raw intensity of it. His unwavering stare, the way he suddenly snaps back into reality bc he realizes he has to save him, he has to. The way he braces himself to get under the truck, foregoing his own trauma of being crushed and preparing himself for the amount of physical strength he’s gonna need to pull it off. THE WAY he screams at Eddie that he’s going, that he’s on his way, to hold on. He doesn’t want him to think he’s alone - and he doesn’t want to think he can’t hear him either -. The desperation in which he pulls him in and then inside the truck, the way he covers him not once but twice from the fire on the other car, the way he RIPS OPEN his uniform to care for the wound. Don’t even get me started on the one single second Eddie’s awake and conscious and he asks Buck if he’s okay bc he doesn’t understand the blood on the man is his. He uses his one moment to care for Buck, and Buck’s on the verge of tears and he begs him to hold on “I need you to hang on” I need you, he says. Need. He needs him. And then the pleading screams to get to the hospital faster, the hoarse voice, the way he’s keeping his tears in bc he knows they’ll be useless right now, and the way he simply finally, defeatedly deadpans ‘no’ when he’s asked if he’s okay. Because how could he be? The love of his life in on the brink of death and there’s not a single thing more he can do about it now but wait.
