They’re really interesting foils in many ways. I’ve always thought that Marcille & Mithrun have underrated dynamic potential. Give me the cringefail dungeon lords. Give me the elves with ears-centric metaphorical self-image issues. Give me the academic elites whose deepest strongest desires will always remain unreachable and the only option is to turn to the corrupt forbidden fruit of a demon pact. I am so so normal about Mithrun and Marcille

I wonder if the resemblance between captain Mithrun and general Hagreus aka Marcille’s fave in Dalclan is intentional… They definitely look very alike. It could represent idealization vs reality? Something something the romanticization of elves and their societal drama in their fiction vs a very real and imperfect product of their military system. The canaries certainly aren’t glamorous next to whatever Hagreus is the general of. I feel like she never had the opportunity to notice the resemblance herself bc within seconds of meeting him he was wrestling her on the ground but. If she had… She would so think he should have been his actor in the tallman stage play of Daltian Clan in that new extra comic hehe. I love the little details like Hagreus’ lips being drawn with extra details because they’re full and pretty while Mithrun’s lips are drawn with extra details because they’re chapped lmao.

This art is all silly and surface level but in my head mithrille is like so dramatic and I make up daltian clan level big plots with them gbdgd. I made a spotify playlist for mithrun if y’all interested, rn it’s mostly centered around cravings that consume and losing yourself and illusions inspired from his time as dungeon lord but it’s branching out. Varied vibes, levels of intensity and degrees of confusion and await you ✨ I would emotionally rant about Chainsaw Man ost lyrics and how they tie in with Mithrun and the winged lion’s relationship but this post is already a monster

I want more of these two please please please pleaseee just one or two interactions in the new canon content coming up… All they ever did was debate philosophy on desires and human self-fulfillment and try to murder each other, please… I never get to gush about them and I can’t shut up so if you want more thoughts I talk about them more below

Sorry if most of these were Marcille-centric with Mithrun standing there looking cool, if I were doing these more from Mithrun’s pov things would be like "She’s a bit much but I guess I don’t mind hanging around her." or "Oh you’re a half-elf? -insert elven supremacist rethoric-" or "I have to keep her from becoming demon stew." immediately followed by "Did someone say demon? Kill kill kill kill kill" since these are set prior to like really knowing another. Then things would be more like "huh she has bad tastes in novels but her magic research is pretty interesting" and "I’m lonely and don’t understand myself— Oh she loves talking about feelings? Oh shi-" That last one is an aspect of why I like Marcille and Mithrun’s potential dynamic lol. She’s very… Emotionally intelligent alongside being impulsive. You think you have no feelings because the world has beaten them out of you? Think again!! Marcille be upon ye! -In a therapy sort of way but mostly in a connecting with people and your own self through interpersonal relationships and talking kinda way. I just think a lively, upbeat, annoying friend way too interested in your personal life would do him good, the canaries are nice but like if Marcille went to prison and was a sort of extra new bunkmate I think that’d be interesting and fun to read is what I’m saying

Unlike Kabru she wants all the useless messy filler of his backstory, eating chips while listening. Like two chibi sets side by side, "me and my fellow canaries, name name and name-" "Hold on we don’t need to know that." Vs "Then we were to sleep on the third floor of the dungeon, which had the look of a mausoleum, and name and name got into a fight over the campfire placement." while Marcille is like uh-huh what next what next while kicking her feet. She thinks of pre-dungeon pompous Mithrun and is like omg you went through a character arc and become better as a person- and then he opens his mouth and she’s like nevermind let’s keep working on that. She would also go "ew ur hair is greasy" and give him a full hair care treatment. What I’m saying is I need them to be forced to spend time in a dungeon together and become besties through a life or death roadtrip

Marcille is insecure about her ears, long, like an elf’s pride should be, but rounder, inelegant. Seeing Mithrun though, the epitome of beauty, with his half-cut ears make it a sillier thought. Not sure if Mithrun is the best person to reconnect with ur elven culture with but it sure is an option Marcille would so appreciate being around someone both cool headed and kind, I genuinely think they’d get along, like not that Senshi isn’t that too most of the time but I think Mithrun would be in a way that’s more refreshing to her. I’d be so curious about them discussing Dalclan, I doubt he’d have read it but she could make him read it, maybe post-canon with the excuse that they’re trying to find him a new hobby hah. He’d tear into the writing and everything but it’d be a fun time, I like to think that it’d make him a bit less prejudiced. I’ve been in a Mithrun phase I want to make and read Mithrun-centric fics and angst so baaad. I razz him a lot here but he’s literally a traumatized military man that became obsessed with revenge due to bad coping and neglects himself in the process idk not much for him going on and some of it is because he has to work on himself, but hey no one’s perfect it all comes from a place of love and relating though I prommy. Soundwave Soulmate Prompt? You can see what your soulmate draw on their skin

TFP Soundwave X Reader Soulmate AU

Soundwave had thought for a long time that he would be forever alone. He’d watch as everyone else got small little marks on their plating that would fade in a matter of hours, while he had none. 

He believed that some just never got soulmates- him included. So when after millions of years a small doodle appeared on his plating, he was shocked. He quickly made his way to his berthroom so no one else could see. 

Once there he inspected the mark. It was a very-well drawn image of the Autobot’s insignia. He quickly felt irritation pull at his spark. Was his soulmate an Autobot? He hesitated for a moment before drawing a Decepticon symbol on his arm.

You were sitting in the Autobot’s base when you felt an odd sensation on your skin. You looked down to see a Decepticon symbol on your arm. It looked like someone had scratched your arm to make the symbol.

 You yelped in fear and held your arm out like it was burned. Ratchet’s eyes quickly fell to you, being the only other in the base.

“What’s wrong?” 

“The-there’s a thing on my arm.” He walked over and gently turned your arm over.

“You shouldn’t be drawing this on your arm.” He scowled.

“I-I didn’t! It just- just appeared there!” 

Ratchet’s eyes immediately furrowed. While humans didn’t have the concept of sparkmates, Cybertronians certainly did. The fact a human could be affected stumped him. 

“Did you draw anything on yourself?” He asked. You pointed dumbly to the Autobot symbol you had drawn on yourself a few minutes ago. His frown only deepened, realizing that your sparkmate must have been a Decepticon.

“What? What’s wrong?” You pleaded in fear. The other Autobots returned to the main hangar as you loudly interrogated Ratchet.

“I fear that you have a Sparkmate- which I didn’t know was possible for a human.” 

“A what?” You demanded.

“A sparkmate?” Optimus questioned. “How is that possible?” 

“I’ve never heard about this before.” Arcee commented. 

“It must be a Decepticon, look at the markings!”

All of the bots began talking about it as you grew more panicked. You yelled out unintentionally. “SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT’S GOING ON!” 

All eyes fell on you with guilty looks. Optimus gently placed a few digits on your shoulder. “It appears you have a… sparkmate. It is what you humans would refer to as a ‘soulmate’. A sparkmate, however, is someone you are actually bound to- not just someone you feel an emotional pull to. Anything you draw on your skin will show up on your sparkmate. Before you, there has never been a recorded case of an organic and a Cybertronian being bonded before”

You sat dumbfounded. You looked at your skin where the Decepticon symbol was fading. “So, this is like. I don’t know. This is a Decepticon? That I’m bound to?” 

Optimus nodded solemnly. “I think it may be best for you to refrain from drawing on yourself. We have no clue who you’re bonded to- and it may put you in danger. Many Decepticons have killed their sparkmates to prove their loyalty to Megatron.”

The fear on your face was obvious. When you went home, you could feel nothing but fear. What if they caught you? What if they killed you?

You were about to go to sleep when the odd sensation returned. On the inside of your hand, large letters appeared. They were foreign to you, being Cybertronian. 

You tried to resist the urge to write something back, but you ended up putting a question mark on your wrist.

Soundwave had realized you were a human when the question mark arrived. He had always wondered why he didn’t have a sparkmate- and now he knew. He had no idea how to feel about it, either. So he went to the one person he could always confide in- Megatron.

“They’re human?” Megatron thought. Soundwave thought Megatron would laugh, but he instead seemed thoughtful. “I didn’t know something like that was possible. If you wish to collect them, I will not stop you.” Megatron patted his oldest friend on the shoulder who only tilted their head.

Megatron noticed their confusion. “This will not leave this room, understand?” Soundwave nodded his head. “I had a sparkmate. It was before the war when I met him in the mines.” Megatron’s face pulled into one of sadness- something he’d only seen once on his leader’s face. “We had spent a few million years together when they became one with the Allspark. Energon deficiency. The senators refused to give us the energon we needed to survive- only enough to keep us running. We tried to save him, but there was nothing anyone could do.” Megatron grabbed his shoulder once again and looked at him in his faceplate. “Your sparkmate is destined to be with you. Don’t let them slip through your digits- human or not. You’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”

Soundwave was shocked by the advice given to him by the warlord. He trusted his advice nonetheless, and began searching for you. He drew on his arm plating, a simple question.

You were at base again when you felt it. You looked down to your wrist to see a name written in English- Soundwave. Your face went pale when you realized just who your sparkmate was. You read all about him and the atrocities he’d committed. You felt your head grow light as you began to sway. 

Bulkhead called out to you when he noticed you walking weirdly. You looked up at him with glossed over eyes and he just barely managed to catch you with a servo before you collapsed.

“Ratchet!” He yelled. Ratchet and the others immediately ran over. As Ratchet looked you over, he noticed the writing on your wrist. His face contorted in fear. 

“What is it, old friend?” Optimus’ deep voice sounded from beside the medic.

Ratchet almost couldn’t get his words out. “Their sparkmate is… Soundwave.”

Concerned looks flashed on everyone’s faces. They knew just how brutal he could be- he was a gladiator before the war after all. “We must have surveillance on them at all times. If Soundwave is contacting them through their bond, it cannot be good.”

When you woke up, they explained everything. You couldn’t help the fear you felt at the idea of someone so terrifying trying to contact you. However, the messages left were oddly… sweet. He would often ask how your day was, or what your favorite color was. When you were at home you would write on yourself- and this went on for months.

You actually began to enjoy talking with the silent mech- just as much as Soundwave. He was actually really funny, but also awkward. He often talked about his son, Laserbeak (and whatever Laserbeak got into that day). 

One day Soundwave asked you the question you’d been expecting for a while. “When can we meet?” 

You bit your lip as you thought of it. You weren’t even sure if you should meet him. Despite everything in your brain telling you not to- that he was just leading you on or he was going to hurt you- you wrote back. “Tonight.”

You went out back to avoid being seen by Bulkhead. You looked back at his vehicle mode from the small hill you climbed up in guilt. You looked back over the hill, and made your decision. 

You walked for a few miles. Your legs felt as if they were on fire. You plopped down onto the ground when you heard it- a quiet whooshing sound. You turned around to see an odd looking jet coming your way.

A Decepticon transformed midway and flipped to the ground, landing on his two pedes. You looked at him, and made eye-visor contact. He was beautiful- from his frame to his purple glowing biolights. He, too, thought you were beautiful.

You both took a step towards each other. Before you could say anything, he scooped you up. You both only looked at each other as he held you close to his visor- and it just clicked. It felt right to be in his hand. 

Before you could stop yourself, you spoke. “I love you, Soundwave.”

Soundwave pressed his faceplate against yours, signaling his love for you too. With that he whisked you away back to the Nemesis. For now, you’d keep your new-found relationship secret from the Autobots- but that would only last for so long.

You know… despite me getting into JJK fandom this year, I’ve never drawn any JJK characters. (cue me drawing 9 whole-ass comic pages-)

Have I told you I’m not used to drawing manga as well? Manga panels are pain. PAIN, I tell you. I shouldn’t have done this, but I did. I did, because every time I read the synopsis of this fic I keep picturing manga-like scenes. You should blame me for reading those AllYuu doujinshis.

It was… interesting experience. I was struggling a bit with the balloon consistency, like, do I use white boxes or just italic words for thoughts? Or maybe a balloon with a cloud-like border?

And there’s GoYuu (YuuGo? Idk honestly, don’t care lol) themselves. As I said, I literally have never drawn JJK-related content before. So when I started thinking about the panelling, I realised that I don’t really know how to draw Gojo, even more a thousand-year-old Yuuji. A whole day is spent researching Gojo, Yuuji and Sukuna’s appearances lol. Sukuna’s markings are a problem since I can’t find a full view of his markings. I know I can just finally watch the anime (yes I haven’t watched the anime, only some short clips; yes I know the animation is good, and I really want to watch it but my brain doesn’t want to) or re-read the manga, but I don’t want to ∠( ᐛ 」∠)＿

After going through Google images, Twitter and Reddit, I whipped up a front drawing of GoYuu as my reference:

Gojo’s is easier because he hasn’t changed from the official (I blatantly eyeballing the character sheet I found haha), but Yuuji is different. Yuuji’s hair is longer; if I recall, there’s no exact description of his clothes. I assume he’s topless due to this description: Messy pink hair, long enough to cover the creature’s nape but not to hide the segmented dark markings running down his back, shifts in the wind.

And halfway through storyboarding, I realised that I have no experience using screen tones. Whatsoever. So off I go searching for a screentone bundle I can freely download and slowly figure my way out after fully lining the page.

And we haven’t even touched perspective, background, achromatic colouring, non-human characters—man, I really bite more than I can chew lmaooo

Also, I hope I’ll have time to draw more fanarts of JJK GoYuu fanfics because they live rent-free in my brain and I need them to get out. Maybe other pairings as well? I like quite a lot of pairings that involve Yuuji. He’s precious, and I love having it shown to me over and over through fanfics.

I wanted to ask for curiosity sake BUT!!! What does Lu wear/look like when he’s evolved into a fully fledged Lucario? We’ve seen Eliana but I don’t think we’ve seen him yet, and I’m SUPER interested :O

I’m not great at drawing Pokes besides Eevee (especially from memory) so the one other time I’ve drawn a Lucario recently I decided…not to post it🥲

But! I don’t give Lu enough attention (plus I’ve been meaning to post some more refined sketches of this duo), so…here you go!😊

Team Relic!

I’ve previously shied away from giving them any specific identifying features because I am frankly terrified of unique character design (I’ve never been particularly good at it tbh…I always draw a blank on what I could include that wouldn’t be terribly cliche…all my OCs weep bc of this lol), but I decided to try my hand at it.

Eliana as an Eevee is taller than average, perhaps the greatest indicator of her physical age despite being a first form Pokémon (still tiny tho). Her paws are a darker shade of brown, similar to the tone in the inside of her ears, and instead of having a somewhat coarse, stiff, straight fur like most Eevee, hers is smoother, silkier, and almost curly (to reflect the texture of her hair as a human more closely). Her fur is also a tad longer, so some of these errant cowlicks are visible. She wears the knot of her scarf in the front sometimes because she does (thankfully) have enough dexterity to tie it on her own, but it takes her a while. Most of the time Lu does it for her.

[Lu develops a habit of either smoothing down said curls with his paws or introducing her to the concept of mutual grooming as a response to either of their occasional insomniac episodes or when one of them is anxious, but only in the privacy of their room. Otherwise, he keeps a paw between her shoulder blades under her ruff and strokes the fur under his pads as a self-soothing tactic, such as when running into Team Skull.]

As a Leafeon she grows extra lithe and lanky, so she has a bit of fawn clumsiness at first because she’d gotten so used to her shorter legs. Her nose scar from Grovyle is fully healed by this point, so it’s faded a bit, but she hadn’t been able to see the dead patch of skin where Dusknoir’s Ice Punch frostbit the flesh around her throat and rendered it hairless before, so she wears something over it almost all the time bc she hates the reminder.

[Later on she continues to wear it bc it distresses Dusknoir to see it a whole lot—it’s hard to coax him back from his guilty spirals, so she only goes “naked” when her things need to be washed after exploring.]

[She doesn’t even realize she has to allow herself time to photosynthesize a certain amount of time per day so the first week she couldn’t figure out why she felt so awful until Sunflora pointed out that her ears and tail looked a bit wilted. Sun baths and afternoon naps become a main stay after that point, although Lu does have to occasionally remind her when she starts to feel down without realizing she’d forgotten to do so.]

[She feels a little naked without her ruff because she’d grown the habit of tucking her chin/mouth into it when stressed out, so when she swaps her Guild scarf for a Virid Collar, she’s grateful to have the extra fabric to nuzzle into when she’s overwhelmed.]

[She can also contort into the oddest shapes to sleep. Lu can’t understand it, but it’s because she and Treecko would often have to wedge themselves into crevices and cracks to rest.]

Lu is pretty much your run-of-the-mill Riolu, although he’s a little slimmer and taller with a bit of a longer narrower snout.

However, when he evolves into Lucario, he fleshes out and gets a bit bulkier after all the exploring they’ve done. His chest spike is broken in an accident, and he develops early gray hair along his muzzle (losing your best friend prematurely to sudden vaporization will certainly affect your stress toleration in the long run huh).

[His fur thickens up in the winter and he’s the best to snuggle with, but given the fact that Treasure Town is coastal it rarely actually gets cold enough to last the whole night without having to peel yourself away for a chance to breathe.]

Hahahahahah Eleanor imagining everyone in every story as sexy explains a lot about how she operates. That and she has hot friends

Hahahaha I wonder how they decide what things to describe as objectively terrible in this show. Is it one writer or is it by committee

“Goodness isn’t something that a person inherently has. It’s something that she achieves through her actions.” I love how in every abstract example they use ‘she’ instead of ‘he.’ Both because Eleanor is the main character and because it’s refreshing

Maybe it's because they've never kissed each other, and it's different (I'm thinking Ed and Stede's kiss, because Stede had never kissed a man before but Ed had, and slept with them too, he just wasn't in love with them the way he is with Stede). Sure, it could mean they just weren't interested in anyone else so why bother (since they're open to an ace or grey ace interpretation).

(Also I don't mean to tell you what to do or say but that... Was maybe not the best phrasing. The "pure" thing equated to not having sex and the "ruining them". My personal read is more along the Stede and Ed situation plus the high stakes. There were others but never any they loved as much (again that's my hc and I've never had issue with the "they only slept with each other" hc, just if it was a question of what would be the equivalent of waiting for marriage because it's the "right" thing)

No, my “pure” meaning was different. I’ve drawn them making love so many times (and I’ve nothing against sex, as you well know) and that’s totally ok. They can have the experiences they want in the future when S3 will be out, I’m sure things will be okay for them (❤️). Mine statement is just what I’m thinking right now, right after seeing that scene. They’re “pure” not because they haven’t had sex or whatever. That’s just pure love. It’s beautiful. It’s way more beautiful that whatever NSFW content I’ve ever seen or drawn or imagined. But of course that doesn’t mean I will never draw NSFW content with them again. I’m just trying to say how much I loved that kiss and how Neil wrote it. It’s (to me!) so much better than a first passionate kiss. Maybe later they will make it better, they will demonstrate their love for each other in a different and more passionate way… I don’t know. But the first one. The first one had to be like this. They’re not human beings, they are two creatures who love each other and I love that.

So the original pitch bible for Transformers Prime was revealed, its prototypical stage was called Robots in Disguise funnily enough, and I’m mixed on what I’ve seen.

Let’s be clear, Prime is ok, but I’ve always found it bland. Flash over substance, best remembered for being gritty and violent with little to say outside of that becoming a forced amalgam of what came before, while its true saving grace being it got Peter Cullen and Frank Welker back on TV in their best known roles. It never knew what it wanted to be, and it’s why I preferred RiD15 since, while far more “kiddy”, I respect a show that at least knows what it is sincere about it.

With that in mind, the concept art oddly feels more cohesive than Prime. The general gist was pretty unabashedly Bayformers: The Animated Series and to a degree I’m surprised they didn’t just do that with NEST, Sam & Mikayla instead of trying to make douchebag hacker Spike a thing.

Indeed, Spike was originally meant as the lead human, described as a rebellious hacker seeking the truth, and one day discovers a Transformer. While there’s no design drawn, reference photos use what looks like stereotypical teens from the 2000’s, ranging from a skateboarder to a grungy emo teen that reminds me of douchebag SM3 Peter with the symbiote. Going by the description and visuals, Spike was evidently split apart into Jack, Raf and Miko, which might explain why they never worked… at least to me. They became a fragment of Spike’s original personality and never fully grew beyond that, when keeping them a single character might’ve been far more interesting.

It appears NEST inspired TASK, no idea what it stands for, but they were similarly a military unit aligned with the Autobots. A female love interest was sketched out, though frankly with how masculine the sketch looks, I keep thinking it’s a guy. Sort of the reverse TF Zone Akira (looks like a girl, is actually a dude). Frankly I say keep the military person a love interest and make ’em a dude: let’s get Akira and Cain up in here with it lol. (I know they weren’t officially a couple, but I still think it’s funny. Plus a version of Spike with a boyfriend could be fun as something different.)

Anyhow, a big emphasis was humanity joining the fight, as well as how they’d react to the TF’s Great War. This didn’t really make it into the final product beyond Prime and RiD’s over fixation on hiding the robots (when in both cases it was becoming increasingly hard to believe people didn’t see anything or just shrugged it off. Though RiD at least had some funny bits poking fun at this I liked.) TASK was basically NEST, and in some cases was just one letter away from just becoming MASK. …Which leads into the toy aspect.

I think had they played their cards right with this early pitch, they could’ve had Autobots, Decepticons, and TASK/MASK transforming vehicles. A huge emphasis was placed on Optimus having specialized trailers, all seemingly based on the Armada and Prime Force drones from Energon to some extent. There was the base trailer that unfolded into a military platform for Autobots and humans to use, a drill trailer for Energon mining, a submarine trailer for water missions, I think I saw a jet trailer, and a tank trailer. It appears they could all Transform to some extent, even becoming armor for other characters to combine with. They evoke the later Cyberverse Spark Armor vehicle combinations with a dash of ROTF Jet Optimus, so the concept made it out just not in Proto-Prime lol.

There was also a proposed Energon Weapon gimmick that strongly resembles the RB style Energon Tools gimmick, so presumably it too got repurposed.

Curiously there’s a LOT of concept art of the Autobots in underwater missions, wearing armor that resembles the submarine armor TFA Bumblebee toy. One concept art drawing features a giant robot manta-fish guy, who I’m assuming was a Seacon or a Sharkticon of some sort. The later TFP prequel stuff that did get made involves an adventure on Aquatron, with Megatron becoming a liberator of the Sharkticons, so I guess that’s where that came from? Megatron even got a Sharkticon inspired toy to boot. I suppose it’s ironic we have all this water business but no one thought to include guys like Sea Spray (and NOT kill him off screen). The robot designs were all over the place. A lot of art mostly uses stylized G1 designs, but the proposed designs were a stronger hybrid of the movies and G1, as opposed to what we got which was purely movie inspired with a dash of Animated. It’s funny to me that after years of praise for Prime’s art style, upon seeing the concept art, it’s now ok to absolutely dunk on Prime. Megatron is the stand out for many, being a hybrid of his WFC, body, his Cybertron Mode Animated body and his Revenge of the Fallen bodies. His vehicle mode was a tank, instead of the first Bayformer space jet thing. He also had what I think might have been a battle axe on his back. It’s definitely cooler than what we got, and I get a strong sense it might crop up as a toy in a future Concept Art Studio Series release. The other designs I think got repurposed though. Bee’s design looks to be what eventually became RiD15, CV and ES Bee, Starscream became RiD15 Screamer, Soundwave’s Earth Mode became RiD15 and CV Soundwave. I genuinely believe RiD15 was where some of these designs were saved lol. Optimus was pry the more G1 looking, with the look possibly influencing his CV and RBA bodies. Soundwave had an alternate design that was his ROTF design, but with Fixit’s wheel feet. I personally hate this look, buts pretty clear ROTF Soundwave was still a huge influence for what became the final and genuinely popular TFP Soundwave design. Ironhide was one of the main Autobots along with Ratchet, both being heavily influenced by their Movie selves, like what would’ve happened with TFA Ironhide and TFA Ratchet. I suppose the funny thing is the Ironhide design made it through, becoming Kup in the American release but staying Ironhide in the Japanese release. Still, the designs were very rough, and as much as people seem to be more for them, they’re too busy and are still clearly finding a balance in what they wanted. I think had they refined it a bit more we could’ve had the perfect Godzilla: The Animated Series equivalent to the original Bayformers. Alas we got Prime, while well intentioned was a show that coasted hard on being dark and gritty, shackled to continued unpopular modern ideas that’s only held TF down than uplift it. I think at the very least EarthSpark is a better version of Prime’s ideas even if I don’t agree with its execution.

Reverse-engineering Hokushin and Otake

I am very very close to finishing part 3 of fight / flight! So close…!! I decided to take a break with what was supposed to be a quick drawing but ended up going down reference rabbit holes oops. This is modern day (actual Yu Yu Hakusho series canon) Hokushin and Otake alongside my imagined early Kamakura-era versions of them in North Bound.

More commentary below the cut.

To figure out their relative heights, it was the usual game of Measuring Stick Yusuke, i.e., relying on the fact that every single character at some point has stood next to Yusuke, or next to someone who has stood next to Yusuke. In this case:

Hokushin is a head taller than Yusuke.

Otake is about half a head taller than adult Koenma.

Adult Koenma is half a head taller than Yusuke.

Therefore, Otake is about half a head taller than Hokushin. Success!!***

This is assuming nobody changed in height between 700 years ago and now lmao

(*** EDIT: I reread this post and was like, wait, what I wrote doesn't make sense. Measuring stick logic outlined above actually indicates that Hokushin and Otake would be about the same height lol. My logic failed. However, I went back to doublecheck my notes and the manga panels and "Otake is about half a head taller than adult Koenma" is little more than guesswork because they spend most of the time crouched next to each other and leaning slightly forward, so he could be anywhere from the same height to even a head taller. Ehhhhhh close enough. Again, 700 years, who's counting.)

Reverse engineering character designs to different ages/periods is always a fun exercise. Aside from new clothes, one of the easiest and most obvious things to do is to change up their hair! Super easy for these two. Give Hokushin hair, and shave Otake’s mustache off and give him a closer-to-period hairstyle instead of his Western-style cut. Done! But of course, a challenge is that for most visual storytelling purposes, you still need the character to be quickly recognizable.

To me, the really distinguishing aspect of Hokushin and Otake is how Togashi renders their eyes. This is where I find it particularly interesting, because both of them have very fixed eye styles. I personally struggle a lot with making them more expressive without feeling like I’m going super off-model. I have a lot more flexibility with Hokushin now because I’ve drawn him about a bajillion times, and through North Bound I’ve stretched the comfort level of how I can depict him. This is only Otake’s second appearance in North Bound (though it feels like a lot more because it’s taking me a while to draw all these parts of a story), so it’s been more challenging. Page 7 in fight / flight part 1 was difficult in terms of making him look intense. You can see what happens if I tried too hard to convey intensity with his eyes by checking out the sketch of the page - it doesn’t look like him anymore. (Sometimes that can work though, for drama especially when conveying something going off the wall and pushing their limits or shocking others with an about-face.)

Working through their designs allowed me to reflect on the parallels in their design and nature. Hokushin and Otake are both envoys of sorts for extremely ancient and powerful non-human masters, and naturally bring a lot of visual gravitas to that role. Neither of them are the sort of people who’re here to just chill and hang out, and their visual appearance and presence need to convey that.

Hokushin I’ve talked about before. Togashi draws him with these really low eyebrows and flat, dark eyes that almost never shift. This makes him look very serious, to the point of glowering. But through the magic of characterization, context and other little facial details, he feels a lot “softer” - friendlier and more approachable. On the flipside, Otake has very thick bushy eyebrows and beady eyes. His eyebrows are definitely much more mobile than Hokushin’s in the manga, and the styling has the potential of coming off almost comedic, but we never get that impression from him unless Togashi is actually drawing him in a situation where we’re intended to laugh at him (e.g., his reactions to Yusuke pretending to turn into an evil demon). Instead, he feels really serious - much more rigid and inflexible than Hokushin.

Part of this is due to reader perspective as well. Hokushin is a demon who eats humans, which is typically terrifying nightmare material. Otake, on the flipside, is the head of the Spirit World’s Special Defence Force, sent out to save the Human World and also stop a powerful demon from awakening, which sounds like a classic hero. But of course, Togashi has flipped them on their heads, at the most basic level simply by sheer virtue of their associations. Yusuke is the protagonist we’ve followed since volume 1; by the time we get to volume 16, we know him very well and have been rooting for him for all these pages. We can quickly recognize and identify his struggles even in challenging situations. Thus, Otake intent on killing Yusuke (permanently) makes us quick to judge him as villainous - or at the very least on the “wrong” side. Meanwhile, Hokushin appearing in Yusuke’s court, understanding Yusuke’s concerns and even giving answers that clearly align him with Yusuke’s values, immediately develops more benign associations. It’s interesting to compare and contrast them!

a background to how i think the "ackerbond" works in the first place

*disclaimer, i don’t believe the ackerbond is strictly romantic.

thinking about erwin and eren in relation to levi and mikasa.

1: whenever there’s a scene from levi’s point of view - especially after erwin dies - the majority of the time there’s going to be a callback or mention of him. (i think there was a joke in the fandom where isayama has drawn the crate scene from every visual perspective imaginable lol.)

the same goes for eren in mikasa’s point of view, especially when he’s been put in danger.

in many respects, the opposite is true from eren/erwin’s pov, but for eren especially after the rumbling begins. scenes from his point of view are nearly nonexistent, but they heavily feature mikasa.

it's also been pointed out before that in this promo image, mikasa is featured the most. i can find the link if anyone's interested.

2: mikasa is viciously protective of eren and is always looking out for his well-being in general. levi’s protectiveness is much less obvious, and also, he’d always follow an order from erwin even if it puts erwin himself in danger. levi's feelings about erwin primarily revolve around trust.

you don’t see levi or mikasa interacting with or depicting these behaviors towards anyone else in the series. besides erwin/eren, my very next idea of a second person to develop the “ackerbond” with would be hange and armin, respectively.

so what about hange would make someone like levi want to trust them implicitly? what Thing (like Erwin’s passion towards a peaceful world) do they have that would complete levi? erwin showed levi hope. someone can rb with their thoughts.

and as for mikasa, armin or mayyyyybe jean? i think that mikasa looked for true love in eren because the foundation of her character is, ‘this world is cruel, but also very beautiful’. eren showed her love the day her parents died. again, someone can rb with their thoughts.

but that’s the “ackerbond” develops in my mind.

again this is my opinion, but i would say no, that once an ackerman finds their special person, that kind of bond can’t be replicated with another. (tho another part of me really wants to say yes lol)

as for your second question, the “ackerbond” being grouped in with their powers implies that this special and intense propensity to love is supernatural / is first a trait belonging to titans.

but love is an innately human ability.

granted, i don't believe that mikasa for instance just "likes eren so much", so i think zeke is underplaying it, but still.

i think that trait is just a part of an ackerman. IF it were the case that it was somehow supernatural (like just for example, an ackerman experiencing their liege’s pain and vice versa), then that would go away with their powers. but that doesn't appear to be the case in canon at all.

but otherwise, i think that the “ackerbond” would still be there even after the war. in a nutshell levi and mikasa love hard lol

final thoughts on the ilw finale: amalia edition (ch 23 spoilers below) @itlivesproject

In my humble opinion, Amalia x MC’s route is the most deserving of a Blood ending. No offense to the other LIs, but Ro only knew y’all for a month and you want them to give up being an all powerful entity??? (jk you’re still valid if you ended up going blood route w/ your respective LI lol) 

I had to remove my personal preference of having Rowan be half human/half Power and fully embrace their ties to humanity. My gameplay for Amalia’s route is unique in comparison to how I approached other LIs. Out of every LI, Amalia’s story was the only one I played with the intention of achieving the Blood route ending. (To prove my point: if I tried to rock with the Power in her route, Ro loses all their nerve lmaoo)

Why was I so determined to get a Blood ending? It all starts with a now very debunked theory I entertained on the genesis of Rowan. The theory being: what if Amalia was the one who brought Ro back from the dead? Dw, the clown makeup has already been applied- BUT it was a very interesting concept for me to explore and ultimately led me to pursue a Blood-centric route. It allowed me to view Rowan as a human who was given a second chance at life by his best friend. The alternative theory I had can be seen here:

Removing Amalia from the equation, these predictions follow the same thread of yearning for humanity. Oh, mortality. How intriguing you are. I’m gonna pat myself on the back for being half-right about the Power being drawn to human nature. It just wasn’t drawn to our dear Rowan specifically. Admittedly, if my theories were true, it would’ve placed an unfair preference over Amalia’s love story. Coming back from the dead just so you could stay with your best friend for a little longer? Their love story can’t be that epic lol. Plus, we wouldn’t have gotten all that sweet lore. Or meet Mama Loha. Or get to see this scene:

Ghost!Rowan: Though I’ve gotta say, I was pretty surprised about us and Amalia. Or I guess I should say you and Amalia.

Rowan: What do you mean? Weren’t you in love with her, too?

Ghost!Rowan: *shakes his head with a smile* Nope. That was all you.

A small weight Rowan never noticed was there lifts off their chest as they realize with full certainty that while much of who they are was siphoned from the ghost in front of you, the love they have for Amalia is theirs. All theirs.

This exchange between ghost!Ro and... the other Ro (lol) is special when you compare it to the other reactions you can get with the LIs. For instance, here’s Abel’s: 

Ghost!Rowan: And I’ve gotta admit, I’m a little jealous of you and that cute professor guy, He’s a cutie, and a sweetheart. I don’t think I ever could’ve landed someone like him

Rowan: You mean Abel?

Ghost!Rowan: Yeah, that’s the one. Congrats by the way.

Rowan can’t help but laugh.

Rowan: Thanks. 

There’s no sigh of relief seen in Abel’s route (or the others I’m assuming). Not like in Amalia’s. Why? Let’s take a look at a couple of scenes:

Amalia’s romance route really has the potential to have the sweetest or most heart wrenching conclusion 😭😭😭 but let me get back on track before I spiral too much over Lia’s shadow ending 

Out of everyone in the gang, Amalia is the only member who knew Rowan when they were human. This fact brings a point of contention between the pair that is touched on numerous times. The reveal of Ro’s true nature has the most impact on Amalia because not only does she have to come to terms with her best friend’s death, she needs to decide how this ‘new’ Ro will fit into her life. Her faith in Rowan is determinant on a player’s choice to fix her college records/telling her the truth. Refusal to do either pushes her over the edge- and  eliminates any possibility to advance Rowan’s relationship with her. How could they when she sees them as the reason her life’s goals are put on an indefinite pause- a Power creature wearing the mask of her dead best friend. 

While Amalia does come to accept Rowan for who they are now, what draws her back in is their display of humanity, despite not being exactly who she once knew. 

Amalia: “It was you, not the first Rowan, who planned my twenty-first birthday party. It was you who cheered me up after I got my first C on a college test. It was you who sent me care packages and you who was always there for me. And I realized that even if you aren’t the same person I knew in middle and high school, these past few years were real, and... I care about you Rowan. Not just the person whose body you were put into.” 

This kindness would have been overlooked by her had Rowan leaned into their more selfish desires. 

Rowan’s battle with their identity is consistent throughout every possible timeline you can create for them. Their memories with Amalia- are they really theirs? How can they claim to be Amalia’s best friend when they aren’t sure which memories are real THEY WERE LEMON DROPS As someone who is at odds over who they are, finding out that their love is truly theirs is nothing short of special.

Characterizing Rowan as I did, it feels only fitting that they choose to become human at the end. It’s also extremely heartwarming to know that Ro x Amalia get to walk through life together, as they always have, for as long as they can. Their epilogue gives domestic housewife realness and I 👏 am 👏 here 👏 for  👏 it  👏 Cook them meals, Ro lmaoo If that’s not enticing enough- there’s also this- we get to see ILW’s best bone doggo, Moss, one last time. That alone made this finale satisfying as hell. The love story I have woven for these two is tooth-achingly sweet, and the ending is even sweeter. I mean, look at this:

Look me in the eye and tell me this doesn’t scream romance. I dare you.

Fated Rantings: Saiba

I finished the original Fate Stay Night anime

Now I’m sure the first thing an older Fate fan will ask is “why would you watch that one?” because nearly every recommendation I did see was ‘Unlimited Blade Works’ or Fate Zero.

And, to be honest, I was curious. I’m old by weeb standards and I prefer that older early 00s anime style. Most importantly, I fell down the Fate rabbit hole to begin with due to Saber herself.

My earliest loves as a child was older medieval fantasies you see. Robin Hood, King Arthur, stuff like that. (I love Gargoyles to this day due to it’s Celtic roots)

I had always heard of Fate but never dabbled. Some avoid it for the convolution but I grew up on Kingdom Hearts so that’s not exactly a hurdle I fear. lol

Rather I tried the mobile game out of boredom and true to my nature I sought lore because I love mythology. Even if you hate Grand Order everyone can enjoy how Fate retools mythology of any kind into a modern story.

So one playlist later and I found myself knee deep and now here we are. That said, while I chose to watch the original Fate Stay Night it was not the first Fate I’ve seen.

Arthurian Legends own me

Now as stated, I found myself drawn to Saber the most. Not just the one you see in the original anime or UBW but as a whole. I had spoiled myself on Saber’s backstory and lore long before I watched that 26 episode anime.

I found myself rather engrossed in this retelling of King Arthur because it was done better than simply gender swapping the legendary figure. Saber was raised as a man and a knight and sees people treating her as a woman as an insult.

And this makes sense given the era King Arthur was believed to have lived in. Women simply could not hold a title like king. Yes, that is very silly, especially since she was chosen by a holy sword, but that’s the point you see.

But the events that made her this way aren’t just tied to that. It’s not as simple as gender identities despite what some will claim. In fact, Artoria is very similar to her “son” Mordred who was also warped by circumstance.

To my delight Fate does not shy away from Arthur’s more noteworthy legends but bends them to Sabers life.

There are subtle changes but key events still happened.

Although they’re full blood sisters in Fate, Morgan Le Fay is still Artoria’s sister.

Although Merlin was wise his detachment to humanity caused him to guide Artoria poorly.

The whole mess with Guenevere and Lancelot.

Although Artoria was the ideal king men wanted she wasn’t one they could understand. (and vice versa)

Caliburn, Excalibur, and the holy lance left her ageless. (literally)

Hell, even Mordred is still her “son”. Artoria allowed Merlin to work his magic to temporarily make her (I presume) a hermaphrodite to produce an heir only for Morgan to use this chance to sneak into the castle and essential slip a magic roofie and take advantage of her sister.

The dark aspects of King Arthur’s legend are still there and it has made Saber who she is. She’s desperate for the grail to redo the sword selection because she genuinely wants someone better fit to do it.

Little does she know the sword and her life was plotted by Merlin and her father decades prior. Artoria, much like Mordred, was set up for failure but not by her own design.

This stubbornness, alongside Shirous own stubborn nature, frustrates some watchers. I however found it fitting for them both. While Shirou lacks the power for her to fight efficiently his personality is the perfect match for her as she is in that moment.

And, like my Mordred post, I’m gonna tackle something some probably think I have no right too but bear with me.

While I understand Artoria’s wishes to not be viewed as a woman I do not think she hates being one or has any ideals you’d usually see tumblr (well now twitter) throw on that bonfire. Rather, to consider her as such is to diminish her pride as a king. Even if she believes herself unfit and a failure she still was a king.

On the flip-side, Shirou is naive due to his age. He’s never been in love before and like Gilgamesh (albeit far less depraved) he can’t really accept that Saber is something he longs for but can’t have. Despite her shared feelings in this route she can’t stay in that era.

But I did not get mad at Shirou for stubbornly getting in the way. He done it the wrong way but behind his teenage infatuation is a desire for Saber to be treated like a genuine person.

She violently rejects this because she believes she’s unworthy of that kindness. It’s a very nuanced thing where no one has bad intentions but still causing negative disputes.

This core issue is what hooked me so badly that I bought and watched the original anime. This is the only anime adaption that follows the “fate route” otherwise known as “sabers route”.

That’s also why this ramble is so Saber focused. This is her story and it was a story I loved to see. A small part of you wants to see them work out but more importantly a big part of you wants Saber to love herself.

To be given the chance to want and be human. Something her upbringing as “Arthur Pendragon” denied her. This lack of freedom in her life is noticed and pointed out exceedingly quickly by Iskander in the Fate Zero scenes I’ve watched.

In Fairness

Now I will grant you that I could enjoy this story far more because I had the context. I was fully aware of what drove Saber and I was aware of why she was summoned by Shirou and how.

I knew about Avalon, her torn feelings, and how Shirous hero complex mirrored her. I would imagine the average anime fan, especially back in the early 2000s, would be fully fucking lost.

For them Fate Stay Night was a generic anime with borrowed names in mythology. I’m also aware some prefer the modern ‘Unlimited Blade Works’, Fate Zero, and ‘Heaven’s Feel’ because they enjoy the other girls more.

Each route focuses on a girl in the barest sense. There’ll always be “animisms” like damsel in distress as well that some just do not like. That is fine. I wouldn’t recommend you view this without context either.

That said, I still enjoyed it far more than I expected. I wish this route explained Heroic Spirit Emiya or had the added epilogue where Shirou finds Saber in Avalon but it’s fine like this.

There was things to enjoy I felt. Rin seems not as “tsundere” as she is in other media I’m shown and I like that she nor Shirou really have a drive for the grail. Their dynamic seems to work in any route whether they’re lovers or allies.

I also like Shirous powers. Due to the Scabbard Avalon he’s become a highly spec’d magic sword. His father didn’t train him properly and he sucks at everything else but by hell do I wish I could just conjure swords. Seeing him use it to greater levels in other stories is always a good time.

I even laughed because the comments I had read before were right. Kotomine literally slings mud as Shirou in this route. The man can use magic karate to topple trees and here he just slings angst sludge at the boy. lmao

Another small thing to note was Gilgamesh’s use of the Babylon Gate. In other media he seems to just sling his entire treasury at people but in this show he actually used the tools a bit. A few swords, a dagger, chains, it wasn’t much but I liked that. (though I suspect animation budget was the cause)

Resolution

At the end of the day I found Fate Stay Night an enjoyable time. I even put off watching the last six because I did not want the ride to end. It leaves some mysteries open but that’s the fault of the original source which was a visual novel.

You simply can’t cram an entire, multi-route, novel into an anime. Thus why I say I enjoyed it more than most due to me having prior context.

To be honest I hope they redo this route one day. Give it the full ‘Unlimited Blade Works’ or even ‘Heaven’s Feel’ treatment. If they do I hope they added the epilogue of Shirou finding Saber in Avalon. (Let them be happy damn you!)

Hewwo. What have you been working on?

A few things :) I’m a non/disney video editor along with writing and other things. But right now in the middle of writing one fanfic-going to soon be turned into a novel, my brain has snatched up an idea from a few months ago and expanded on it.

I am. Intensely proud of this video. MEPs are multiple editor pieces. My piece was a lot of fun and a personal challenge. So it was really funny when a fellow editor posted a sign up for a star person/human mep. That’s it that’s the theme. I got very excited.

So my brain of course, connected them. The character I chose for the star boy for this mep is now in my brain the son of the king and god in the video up here. Son via Magical Shenanigans, lol. I like the idea the god wished on the wishing stars and the next day-irate husband with a baby. I’ve written pieces of fic with those two and may very well turn it into a novel lol.

Currently the two have, in my mind, two children. One of them now being this new wishing star man

My brain says “their son born of a wish hasn’t been able to go near or so much as touch his lover for who knows how long and finally he can even admit he’s in love to this person” which is lovely and so dramatic.

Problem is what kind of curse would scare a god, lol. Who did this hapless human piss off, exactly.

And then on the other end I’m writing A Knight A Pretty As Hollyhock Blooms which is a fanfiction crossover of star wars and the tangled tv show. It’s also a retelling of Gawain and the green knight.

Here’s a little bit of that from the chapter I haven’t published yet :)

Luke’s eyes were drawn again to the scars around Varian’s mouth. Varian caught his eye and put a bandana around his neck back over his nose, hiding his lower face.

“You don’t need to hide that around me” he held his prosthetic hand up, and pulled the sleeve down to show off the gold veins and withered skin. “Magic’s weird, to quote a friend. Plus, I think I have you beat weird scarring wise.”

“It hurts.” Luke said dryly. “Hardly cool.” He tugged his arm away from Varian’s inspection before rolling his sleeve back up over his injured arm. “My father tried to kill me. My mom’s in a coma. Ben’s in amber, so’s Han. We don’t know where Han is, even. The Fett’s deny receiving him.” High likelihood they were lying, though the chance wasn’t zero he just hadn’t been delivered yet. “We had to place Lando Calrissian under house arrest-Landa Rosa and it’s royal family are completely and rightfully incensed. I left without a hand and my country and my sister in a very tense political situation.”

“Aw, poor baby” Varian clucked his tongue at him with very obviously fake sympathy. “You’ve had a very bad year. You could have put this off.”

“No” Luke said, voice clipped, remembering only a few months ago Varian had told the raccoon currently pulling the cart to ‘break him.’ Nor even was he going to forget who had put Han in Amber. “Things would have just kept going until I couldn’t ever come here. I’ve put it off long enough.” He continued eyeing Varian carefully. “Encased in amber until the knight came to kill me far from the tree with everything I love ruined.”

An easy shrug and a hand patted invitation to sit back on the cart bench. “Not wrong. But not everything’s your fault. The brotherhood have nothing to do with you, your highness.” A slight pause. “Neither does your father. If you were worried about that.”

“You sound so certain.”

“I’ve only got my own experience, but it never seems to touch those already experimenting with spells, alright? And Anakin Skywalker took to sorcery like he was born for it.”

“…how do I know this didn’t set him on the path?”

Varian shrugged. “Alright, that is a valid fear. The knight might be one of the creepiest things on this planet, and more of a storm variety of force of nature and better avoided.” He held up a finger. “But I’ll throw you a bone and be nice. Anakin was already talking to us long before you volunteered your life to the knight, alright?”

Okay, change of plans.

Despite my best laid plans, my intentions to produce that Hellboy comic through October are turning out to be more unrealistic than they were before I moved. Unforeseen circumstances are going to reduce the amount of free time I have in the near future (thanks, Ian), and I straight up overestimated how quickly I’d be able to draw each page. Which happens a lot.

See, there’s kind of a bigger problem here. I routinely find myself getting excited about making a comic project, writing it all out, and then burning out repeatedly as I draw it. For the longest time, I thought that was just what it took to draw that many cool pictures on one page. It wasn’t until I started living with a friend from college that I realized there was a problem. Or, he realized it first. He’s astonishingly good at clocking me through my stubborn bullshit lol. He said that maybe I constantly burn out because I’m using 100% of my artistic capacity 100% of the time. Which sounds ideal on paper. I’m making the very best art that I can. But it’s completely unsustainable because, uh… I’m a human with limits, as I constantly forget. And comics take a lot of stamina.

Because I don’t understand comics. I read comics all the time growing up, but I didn’t draw like them. I learned to draw from making fine art pieces in school. I drew with realism and life drawing as the core of my practice because that’s what my dad had been taught back when he aspired to be an animator at Disney, and that’s what he taught me. The only thing that ever impressed art teachers and classmates was how accurately I could draw a face or a vase or a landscape. So I did that as well as I could.

Now, I should be clear here. Realism absolutely has a place in comics. Some of the most beautiful and intelligent pieces of work I’ve ever read had clear roots in realism. Life drawing is a sensible basis for any kind of representational art, in my opinion. Sequential art that’s just a series of fully-rendered paintings astound and enchant me.

It’s just that I think that level of detail and accuracy just isn’t right for me. Partly because my writing style is also super extra. I have big spiraling ideas that take a lot of time and pages to execute. My writing is actually just now reaching a point where I can whittle it down to reasonable finished scripts that I can draw with (which might be why I never realized this art problem before). And sooner or later, my brain wanders off onto something else. So being stuck with these big projects that are so exhausting to execute leads to a kaleidoscopic labyrinth of “break” projects that are supposed to be easier. They never are. Because my brain doesn’t know how to do “easier”. Like anything, I think “easier” will take practice. Study.

My plan, therefore, is to study an easier style to keep in my toolbox. Something fun and shape-based that lets me lean on the forms of abstraction and simplification that I already use in my current dominant style. Mostly, I’m looking at Scott Campbell (lead art director of Psychonauts 1) right now. And I’m gonna try working with some brushes that won’t leave me agonizing over line weight. If this works, it might give me more time to think about color dynamics, lighting, staging, and expression (since you guys seem to love that so much in TMA Encore; I love it too).

What does this mean for Hellboy and Encore, then? I think the best thing to do for Hellboy is post the pages I finished before I moved and release the remaining script in text form through October. It’s not as good as having the whole thing drawn, but I think having initial pages will at least help readers visualize the rest. (And I’d really like people to be able to experience the whole thing because I feel like it’s some of the best writing I’ve ever done.) Then, starting in November, I want to get Encore wrapped up. This will take the form of a kind of… hybrid media presentation. Encore has no complete script, but I can write a dramatic summary of what happens chapter by chapter, accompanied by drawn panels and sequences of important moments. Like a picture book. That kinda fits the dark academia vibe.

Following that, I’m going to use that Psychonauts fanfic I mentioned months ago as a study tool. I have a whole side blog for that (link), but I might crosspost them here when the time comes. And from there, hopefully, I’ll have a sustainable work ethic and can start on my own original projects. With videos. And patreon!

It’s a big weird shift all of a sudden, I know. This may just be another art blog on tumblr, but it’s important for me to try to be consistent and accountable when I make projects. And if I can’t do that, I at least want to be transparent. (Who knows–talking about this might help someone else who’s struggling, too.) I have kind of a rare opportunity in my life to sit and focus on art right now, and I don’t know when another will come again, if ever. So I want to use the limited time I have to improve and position myself for success (and wellness) going forward.

I hope you understand. But I have a feeling you will. You guys are real nice. :)

I've actually never drawn fanart before this! My usual style is vastly different, mostly psychedelia, surrealism and architecture so I never thought I could do that.

But I read Drawing from the Right Side of Your Brain by Betty Edwards around the same time that I started watching the show and it made something Click for me in regards to drawing humans (I'd been struggling for a few years before that), my first drawing using what I'd learnt was TK!

I did this on my phone without a stylus, got excited over the possibilities and proceeded to blow my savings on a proper drawing tablet instead of a new laptop, lol.

And I got into Lonestar after seeing the TK Barbie post on my dash. I read a lot of fanfic first, watched the show to see if it lived up to that and was absolutely hooked when it did!

For your last question, I would join Marjan and Paul's team then I could sit back and watch them work, lol. Paul is very smart and observant, Marjan is competitive and out-spoken, I am none of those things so I could just eat all Mateo's snacks and cheer them on in the background instead, lmao.

Sorry, that was very rambling, I am on a lot of meds for my annoying cold. 😅
