The Burdens of Lordship
Jaune decided he needed to go get out for a night, and by himself.
It had been a long couple of months at Beacon, hard, difficult, and nowhere near-easy for a fake like himself.
But, he had made it so far with Pyrrha and his teams help.
He be dead without them, hells, he’d be dead without Ruby too.
But, with all these new teams coming in today... It felt so damn suffocating, even more than usual. Like they could see through him, see that he didn’t belong here.
So, it brought him here, getting dressed for a knight on the town, heh, he’d made a Yang.
A nice pair of cream slacks, a royal blue dress shirt, a black vest on top of it lined with faux-gold buttons, a pair of nice brown loafers, and fine leather belt to bring the suit together. Contrarily to Yang and Weiss’s opinion, he did know how to dress himself, being raised by his parents plus seven overbearing sisters taught him enough, it’s just, since he came to Beacon he’s actually had the freedom to wear what he wanted.
Tonight though? He want to look better than he felt. So, he brushed his a hair enough to look presentable, and went out into the dorm.
“Well, how did I dooooo-” Jaune didn’t get to finish as Nora barreled pasted into the bathroom, knocking him to the side.
Pyrrha stifled a laugh and Ren gave the barest hint of a apolegtic smile.
Jaune steadied himself, giving a laugh at his own expense. He couldn’t blame Nora for having to go to the bathroom, could he?
“Well, how do I look?” Jaune asked his partner and his friend.
Pyrrha gave him a friendly smile and nodded approvingly. “Quite lovely, Jaune. You look dashing.”
“Ah, thanks Pyr.” Jaune said with a slight blush, it always felt nice to be complimented.
Ren looked on more skeptically, with a hand on his chin. “Turn around.”
Jaune did as asked.
“Ok, do some stretches.”
Jaune complied with his team-mates wishes, surely he would notice if he missed something.
“Alright, you look passable. Here,” Ren approached Jaune squirted a few drops of cologne, and helped straighten out his outfit. “And now you look, as Pyrrha put it, quite dashing.” Ren said with a light smile.
“Thanks, Ren.” Jaune said another light blush on his cheeks. “Well, I guess I should be going then.”
“Wait,” Ren said putting a hand on his shoulder. “You’re forgetting something.” He looked over to Pyrrha and she handed the boys Crocea Mors.
Jaune looked on incredulous. “Why would I need Crocea Mors?”
Ren shook his head. “You’re a huntsman, you must look the part at all times. Plus...”
Jaune frowned, knowing where he was leading. “It’ll make me less likely to be mugged or something.”
Jaune knew he was a still noodly, and looked kinda weak. But he was working really hard on that!
Jaune still took his blade without complaint, admittedly he has gotten so used to wearing it, he started feeling off when not wearing it.
Pyrrha rubbed a hand on his shoulder. “It’s not like that Jaune, it’s not we’re concerned about you getting hurt, far from it, the odds of someone attacking you and them being huntsman trained are one in some hundred. We’re actually more concerned that someone might mug you and...”
Ren chimed in, “Well, you’re not Nora strong, but you’re being trained and have Aura, and that’s more than enough to hospitalize someone without one or both.”
Jaune grimaced at the idea. While he didn’t fancy himself strong or powerful, it as kinda hard to deny he hadn’t been making progress, last week he had managed to take off the head of one of the old drones that General Ironwood had donated to the academy. A regular human probably require much, much less effort.
So he nodded. “I see your point. Better to deter them, before they make a attempt.”
“Also, Ruby would be peeved if you didn’t start taking this.” Then Pyrrha pushed a black hand-canon into his hand. She then looked him in the eyes. “I’d also be rather put out, considering I paid for it.” A sly grin in her eyes.
Jaune sighed and equipped the gun to his waist opposite of Crocea Mors. Ever since he had started training with Pyrrha seriously, she had quite insistent about covering his ranged issues. So his devious partner, had behind his back teamed up with his best friend and local gun-nut, Ruby Rose, to make him a custom-hand canon.
Her evils truly knew no bounds. They had even come up with a name for it the devils! Noctis Mors.
Ruby had been a cruel task-master in teaching him the in’s and outs of shooting Noctis Mors, she had made him assemble and reassemble her until his hands bled gun oil. Suffice to say, while Noctis Mors felt a little strange on his hip, he was getting used to it.
“Thank you, Pyrrha.” He said, and pulled her into a hug, which she reciprocated.
“Better to have it and not need it, then to needed and not have it.”
Jaune smiled and shook his head, his friends were too good to him.
“Tell Nora, I said bye.”
Ren nodded his head. “You should leave before she loads you up with some grenades.”
Jaune shivered at the thought, he might be coming around to using Noctis Mors, but he doubted he’d ever get used to high-caliber explosives, He’d leave that to his crazy ginger bomber.
“Well, bye guys, I’ll see you later tonight.” Jaune said to his friend and Partner.
“Bye, Jaune.”
“Try not to eat to unhealthily!”
“I make no such promises!” Jaune said with a laugh, slipping out of the dorm.
Jaune made his way down the hallways of the dorm toward to the stairs that led outside. Where he encounters a quartet of familiar faces.
Jaune gave a friendly wave to Team RWBY as he walked towards them.
“Jaune!” Ruby said speeding over. “What are you up too? You’re not trying to ask Weiss out again are you?”
Jaune gave a eye-roll. “No, just heading out for the night. Just thought, I be a good friend and say hi.” Jaune said with stress on the word friend.
Ruby gave a laugh. “Sure, you are.”
The rest of her team caught up. Weiss in particular looked at him with suspicion,
“So, VB, whats the occasion for looking so sharp, you got a hot date tonight?” Yang asked giving him a approving nod.
“Hah, no, not tonight. I, uh, just gotta to get out for a night. You know? I just feel so trapped lately, and I want to not really think about things for a night.”
Ruby gave him a sympathetic nod.
While surprisingly Blake, the one he probably never interacted with, looked at him with a surprising level of empathy. “Yeah, I know what you mean. I hope you find what you’re looking for tonight.”
“Yeah me, too.”
Weiss then choose to cut in. “So, you don’t know what you’re looking for then?” Giving him a sharp look.
Jaune almost buckled under her gave, but straighten his back. “Uh, no, but, It’s not like I’m just idling around in Vale all nigh, I’ve got a couple places to hit up, but it’s not like I’m keeping to strict schedule, I either get to them or I don’t, I’m just trying to de-stress is all.”
Weiss huffed in disapproval, but said nothing in return. The Ice Queens love of schedules and appointments was approaching that of legend.
Yang then slung an arm around his shoulders, though she had to lean up to so. “Well, VB, that sounds fun and all, but Team RWBY as places to be and butts to kick, so go have your fun.”
Jaune untangled himself. “That’s the plan, you guys go stop crime or whatever trouble you’ll get up to.”
“We don’t always do that!”
Jaune raised a suspicious brow at that.
“We don’t!”
“Sure.” Then Jaune turned and walked away, feeling as though he had won that conversation.
As he was leaving, he heard Weiss call out. “Arc.” Jaune turned to looked at her. “Try to not make a fool out of yourself, tonight.” The barest hint of what may one day be a smile on her face.
“That’s not on the list, but I’ll add it in anyway.” He said turning around, not bothering to try to find sort of conversation with her. He knew where they stood relationship wise, and if it could improve over time, that sounds good, if not, well all he could hope is keeping thing civil.
-------
Jaune made sure to pop something for his motion-sickness before he bordered the bullhead, so the flight down wasn’t as terrible as it could be, it was still awful, but at least he wasn’t spewing his guts everywhere.
His stomach feeling wobbly made he strike eating off the list for now, so he choose his first destination, and walked through one of Vales, many, many parks. Admiring the well-tended plant-life and occasionally waving at anybody who waved at him.
After his stomach settled, he decided to walk towards the closest bookstore, and just browsed till he founded something interesting. He had less-time with keeping up with comic and whatever came out of Mistral, since coming to Beacon. Still he left the store with couple interesting comics and even a couple books on stuff relating to huntsman actives.
Finally his stomach had decided to let him know, he could refill it. He ended up at a nice steak house, and somehow managed to get to a table in under a hour.
Jaune set at a table looking over a menu, he had already decided on what steak he want, now it was just onto sides.
A waitress then made herself known. “Hello, hello, what can I get you today?”
Jaune recited his order.
“Right, well have it out as soon as possible. Also, from the rest of us here, we’d like to think you for your service.”
Jaune’s face crunched in confusion.
“Huntsmen are a invaluable part of our society, and as such, we’d like you to know that your meal is on the house tonight, if you require anything else, please just call.”
Then his waitress left, somehow managing to make Jaune feel appreciated and also like a complete piece of shit.
----
The meal was delicious, and Jaune had made sure to leave a nice tip anyway before leaving.
Did his dad get free meals like that? Did all huntsmen just get their bill wavered?
Jaune paused for a moment and sat on a bench, thinking.
He stares out into the evening light and all the people out there, living there lives, good or bad, they were still people weren’t they? They were probably didn’t even think about how to they need to get stronger, or how to kill the next grimm they face, were they?
They shouldn’t have to either? Should they, since that was his job kinda. Jaune thought for a second, he might not be a real huntsman, or even a real huntsman in training, but whats to stop him from faking it till he made it for real? What does it matter if the arms that carrys the sword has trained for two years or two months, if it can cut, it can serve.
If people were going to honor him as a huntsman, he was going to honor them by acting like one.
There wasn’t a smile on his face, but there wasn’t a frown either.
He didn’t have time to idle anymore, he needed to get back and work off this meal.
‘KAAAA-BOOOOM!!!’ A sound like none Jaune had heard before tore the air into pieces, it was so loud that it put any sound he heard before into a whimper. It was like the crack of thunder on a scale inconceivable, like lightning striking turned up to twelve.
His hearing was protected by Aura, and it was still ringing.
He turned his head towards the source of the sound, towards Beacon, and towards Patch, towards were he say the source of several more sources of the sound, and a terrible, but wondrous site.
Of what looked like one of those things Weiss summoned before, but bigger, on a scale that could cover entire city blocks!
A pillar of sheer white light stuck Beacon, and in a moment of realization, what must be Signal on Patch.
A light so bright and terrible, Jaune felt it burn against his aura, and could see the fires start around the Emerald Forest. He carefully took his hand off his ear, the sound pound like a hammer into his head, and he could see the bones through his skin. He slapped his hand back across his head.
The pillars kept of their thunderous booming for several minutes, as Jaune covered his ears, watching in utter horror.
It felt almost like a the air was slapping against his bones, and sound was hitting against his bones, rattling and shaking them.
The ground as shaking too he realized.
Silence and darkness.
The pillars suddenly disappeared, and a vacuum of sound was left over.
The city was now dark and silent, as day left night along, as the lights in the city did not turn on, as the only light was that of the fires, there was no sound at first... Then the screams started.
AN: I can’t believe everyone, but, Jaune just got fucking Isekai’d.

Trouble in Devildom Town, Part 2/3
Approximate reading time: 10~15 minutes
Words: 3.084 words
Lucifer pressed out a sigh.
From what Leviathan had explained, the game's concept actually got him quite agitated. He was highly interested in the game of trust and betrayal, of temporarily working together with your co-players that, in the next second, might be trying literally to backstab you.
However, his fun-o-meter had dropped remarkably after Mammon had caught up to him and Violet.
He tried ignoring his younger brother.
He tried to focus on Violet, and on finally finding a weapon to defend themselves.
He really tried,
but if Mammon was good at something, it was getting on Lucifer's nerves.
Mainly because he just kept talking and talking...
"So Lucifer, what's the plan? Why do we have to go to the forest, Lucifer? I haaaate the bugs that live there..."
Finding themselves in what seemed like a dead end, Violet looked around, spotting a little opening between the trees.
And Mammon stumbled after them, continuing to blabber...
"Hey, what weapons do you guys think they have in this game?! An epic flame thrower? Drones that explode when touching an enemy?"
The oldest brother silently helped Violet get over a tree trunk lying on the floor.
So Mammon continued...
"Oooh, I'm so hyped to check out my premium detective store once I have enough points! I'll be the most bad-ass player the world has ever...
...Hey, are you guys listening to me at all?!"
Violet gave a little sigh, mumbling an "of course we do" into Mammon's direction, but seeing the look on Lucifer's face, Mammon was unamused regardless.
"Lucifer, I swear, if you're a traitor I will never forgive you for backstabbing me. And if you're not, you'd better start doing what I want you to, because I'M the detective!"
The group came across a clearing.
"Yeah, how does that feel, huh?!" Mammon puffed his chest in an attempt to establish dominance. "I'M the superior one for once!! Actually, Lucifer, how about you..."
Mammon stopped as Lucifer had bend down to grab something lying in the grass.
It was a weird, black stick.
"... What's this?" Violet and Mammon asked simultaneously.
Then, Lucifer found a button and pressed it.
It started buzzing in a weird way, the tip was even giving off a weird, vibrating sensation (but no it's not what you think it is, you dirty-minded little...).
Lucifer stared at the stick in his hand.
Kind of on instinct, he pointed at a nearby rock, and on command, it glided into the air, following the movements Lucifer was doing with the weapon in his hand.
"A... telekinesis stick?" Violet blinked in surprise.
Lucifer stared at the stick.
Then, his eyes landed on Mammon...
With a maniac sparkle glimmering inside them.
"Oh how I wonder..." Lucifer purred threateningly, "If I can also move around people with this...?"
Mammon grew pale as he did a step backwards.
"Uh-uhm... You shouldn't... I mean... I-I-I'm the detective, remember?! If you do anything against my will, it's treason! Do you want to bust yourself as a traitor?!"
"Let's see..." Lucifer came closer. "If it means you finally shut up, then yes, I'll very gladly take that risk."
And as he pointed the club towards Mammon, the second-born's feet lost ground in an instant. Screeching and flailing helplessly in the air, Mammon's body was controlled by Lucifer's will.
"Hm... Where's the best place to dispose of you...?"
"Let me goooo...!!!" Mammon was still screaming. "That's not funny.... Lucifeeeer!!!"
With a last swing of his hand, Lucifer practically yeeted his own brother into the nearest tree.
His last words of "you traitooooor" screamed into the sky of day, Mammon vanished somewhere in-between the twigs and was nowhere to be seen.
Deactivating the stick for now, Lucifer attached it to his belt, then turned around to look at Violet.
"I'm sorry, I hope this did not cause you to bear any doubt in me now. I would hate to fight you as well."
Violet, who had watched in quite some amusement, gave a little shrug.
"It's not really any different from how you two usually behave, so... I don't really see a reason to, don't know, be wanting to kill you all of a sudden."
She gained a laugh from the male.
"What a weird sentence, but fairly pleasant to hear."
He reached out his hand.
"Well then, shall we continue and find you a weapon as well?"
Meanwhile, the twin brothers had reached a point where the giant cliff and the other platform became visible.
Seeing that Beel was about to go exactly there, Belphie finally pulled himself out of his brother's grip.
"W-wait, Beel...! What's gotten into you?! Do you really want to go over there??"
"... Why not?"
The avatar of Sloth crossed his arms.
"Think about it. What if there's a traitor on the other side, waiting for some idiots to walk right into his trap? With only this bridge as means of escape, this is the perfect place to camp for innocents to come by."
A little silence came over them.
Belphie was kind of stressed to see his brother pondering over something else than their own personal survival as a pair, while Beel stared over to the other side, lost in thoughts.
Then Beel's eyes widened all of a sudden.
"... Clover!!"
He dashed towards the bridge, leaving his puzzled brother behind.
Belphie was screaming after him, searching for what could have caused Beel to be in such a hurry.
His mouth fell open as he spotted a person lying on the bridge, a leg stuck between the wooden planks.
Clover was waving at Beel to come and save her.
Hurrying after Beel, Belphie kept analysing the scene, a feeling in his guts that something was off about this sight...
He watched as Beel was calling out to her, but she wasn't replying at all, only waving and helplessly trying to pull her leg out of there.
Then Belphie realised what was bugging him.
He stared at the nickname above her head...
'Clovechan'
And Belphie dashed towards his brother.
"Beel, wait!! This is a tra-"
  "Somebody.... Help meee..."
Levi heard a voice when making his way through the forest.
He wasn't very pleased to have heard that voice.
"Heeeeelp..."
In a great sigh, Levi came to a stop next to a large tree that was covered in twines.
And amidst these twines, there was Mammon, obviously stuck, giving awful whines as he wasn't able to free himself apparently.
"LEVI!!"
"... Mammon."
"LEVI!!!" Mammon was swinging in glee as he saw the otaku passing by. "Levi, my most favourite brother!! Oh, have I ever been more glad to see you?"
Levi gave another stressed noise, not really wanting to interrupt his hunt for ammunition or another weapon, but the thick forest actually kept him from proceeding.
"You knoooow..." Mammon continued to muse, "I really think we're getting more close to each other lately. Don't you think so, too? Like, as the second- and third-born brothers, we kinda just HAVE to stick together... Don't we?"
Levi started to think.
"So..." Mammon continued. "Could you... Maybe... Help me get out of here?"
Levi was thinking...
And he made his decision.
He left.
"Wha-?! Levi, what are you doing?!?!" Now Mammon was swinging in anger. "Help me, you dumbass, I'm the frickin' DETECTIVE, why are y'all so mean to meeeee?!?"
And well, he had a point...
But Levi left anyways.
It felt weird for Clover to lead the way after she and Satan had passed the bridge, but as the girl was the one bearing the weapon, Satan had told her to go first.
The buildings here looked similar to those in the spawning area, poorly built, mostly empty, and with dust and plants covering them.
They checked one house at a time, and soon Satan was equipped with a riffle gun and a batch of ammo to go along with it.
Clover felt a little unsafe, seeing how now Satan was actually able to eliminate her in the brink of a second, but he really didn't seem like he was up to anything bad.
But how could she be so sure, you ask yourself? That this evil, wrathy mind wasn't coming up with a master plan just this second?
Well, when they found one specific building...
"A 'CAT LAUNCHER'?!?!"
Clover peeked inside the house that Satan had went into while she was guarding him.
"Is... Everything alright?" She asked in a mumble, but the male quickly waved her off.
"Of course, I'm perfectly fine" he responded.
"Hey, uhm, Clover, do you mind checking out the two remaining houses by yourself? Don't worry, I'll be back by your side in a second, but I, uhm... Want to check how this thing here works."
Clover stared at him for a moment.
"Satan, if you do kill me after all I will never forgive you."
"No no, I won't, I promise, just... Please?"
She had no choice but to check the other buildings herself.
The first one, a house close to the one Satan was sitting in, was empty.
However, the last and biggest shack was another deal.
A few of the other houses had their front doors unlocked, and so was this door as Clover stepped inside.
It was rather gloomy inside, so she pulled the curtains open to have a better look at her surroundings.
While she was browsing through the abandoned house, looking for anything of use to her, the girl was ripped out of her thoughts by the sound of an explosion. It appeared to be rather far away, however, so in the end, Clover was unsure what to do.
She feared that someone might have destroyed the bridge, or that something had happened to Satan.
"No... The explosion would have been louder if it went off on this platform..." she thought out loud.
She found it best to quickly skim through the house and then return to her partner as soon as possible.
And actually, she was pleased to find a whole batch of different weapons.
A knife, three grenades, and a shotgun, loaded but with no additional ammo.
Clover attached them to her belt and kept the knife in her hand...
When she heard footsteps approaching.
"... Satan...?"
No, the steps sounded too heavy, Satan had been moving more careful and silent before...
The girl backed away from the door, careful to not be obviously visible through the windows.
Ready to grab her pistol, she stared at the doorframe...
Then Beel stepped inside, a surprised look on his face as he locked eyes with her.
"... It seems we have seen about most of the forest by now."
Lucifer came to a stop, resting on a rock and gesturing Violet to do the same.
"What do we have so far?" he asked, pointing at their equipment.
"We have... two pistols, one for each of us, a sniper gun... one smoke grenade and a few normal ones... And this weird magnet stick."
The male was nodding contently. They shared the ammunition and grenades fairly between each other, then the demon raised himself to walk around while thinking.
"Well, looking at the timer... We have about thirty minutes left to survive. However, it seems somebody must have died within the last two minutes, because I recall to have more time passed originally..."
Somewhere in-between his rambling, Lucifer noticed that Violet didn't seem to be listening.
In fact, she wasn't even looking at him.
He kept staring at her, until eventually, her eyes would wander up from the void she had been staring into.
A light blush spread on her cheeks as she blinked in awkwardness.
"... Is something wrong?" she asked.
"Where were you" Lucifer asked in a sharper tone, not leaving her out of his sight now.
"I was emersed in thoughts, I'm sorry" she waved it off. "It's just... a weird concept we're in, so I was thinking about how to further proceed in the best way."
Lucifer pressed out a hum.
"Indeed... But I find this to be rather thrilling. Most of Levi's games are too childish for my taste, but this here has caught my interest..."
He made a little pause.
"Although..." he then began, "there are a few things about this game I have yet to figure out."
Violet tilted her head.
"Like what?"
Lucifer's gaze finally drifted off her as he pushed himself away from the rock to lumber around.
"Well, for example... Levi has told us that the traitors as well as the detective have access to a special weapon repertoire... But how exactly do they enter this store? Is it a place to visit, or what should I interpret it as?"
Again, Violet blinked.
"Uhm... I guess in the game's normal version, you'll have some kind of window you can click on... It's not like a place, but more an additional inventory where you can buy stuff. Or at least, that's how I imagine it..."
A soft wind's breeze carried a silence onto them.
Violet grew a little concerned as Lucifer wouldn't respond anything, his back turned towards her.
"... Lucifer...? What's wrong, what are you thinking about?"
She heard him breathe out...
Then, he turned around, starting to walk back to her, arms crossed as he pinned her down with his eyes.
"I was only wondering... If I was to enter a shop like the traitor's weapon repertoire, it would be something like a cognitive process, as the shop itself is not a material place according to your description."
He came to a stop in front of her, placing a hand next to where she was leaning against the rock.
"And then I thought... How would that look like to the other players?"
Violet's eyes widened as his eyes narrowed, his face slowly getting closer to hers.
There was a thick tone of thread painting his voice as he continued.
"I personally imagine it could look like...
Somebody mindlessly staring off into the distance while taking advantage of the other person not paying close attention to them..."
Violet had backed away on instinct, but soon she was bend over the stone and could not escape his deviously sparkling eyes any longer.
"Or what would you say... my dear traitor?"
    --- just a little earlier... ---
 Belphie hurried after his brother.
"Beel, wait!! This is a tra-"
An explosion went off before Belphie could finish his sentence.
The avatar of Sloth protected himself from the chunks of dirt flying through the air, but the explosion's impulse pushed him off his feet nonetheless.
When he felt save enough to open up his eyes again, he saw a large hole in the ground near the bridge, but the construction itself didn't seem to be damaged.
Although, what was more important...
"Beel...!!"
Belphegor stumbled towards his brother, falling onto his knees as he crouched down beside his body.
"... Beel...?"
Sighing, he had soon to realise that now Beelzebub's health bar was visible, however he had to see that it had dropped to zero.
His eyes snapping back at the bridge, Belphegor gasped as he watched Clover pulling her leg out of the bridge. She looked back at the tragedy that had happened, before turning around to run away from Belphegor and onto the smaller plattform.
"... Beel?" Clover watched the male entering the house, his arms raised in a gesture to show he meant no harm.
She felt herself shivering, but let go of her pistol for now.
"What are you doing here? Weren't you with Belphie?"
Beel's eyes were averted as he came closer.
His face showed extreme sadness.
"The explosion..." he whispered, so faint that Clover had trouble understanding him.
"Did he...?" She hurried towards him.
Beel gave a little nod.
Then, the girl grew suspicious.
"Wait... You didn't... kill him, did you...?"
Now he was shaking his head.
"I would never..." Again, he whispered, barely any colour in his voice at all.
His arms slowly found her shoulders.
"He is dead..." His voice was so fragile it stressed Clover a lot.
"Beel, this is only a game..." she mumbled in an attempt to soothe him.
Then, suddenly, he pulled her towards him, his arm wrapped around her waist and his free hand cupping her cheek.
"I only got you left..."
The girl flushed red in an instant, her brain errored as she was overwhelmed by thoughts and emotions.
As her hands grew sweaty, the knife she was holding just kind of slipped out of her grip.
She was about to babble a response, but completely puzzled, she didn't manage to press out more than his name.
"Clover..." he whispered, and now Clover realised his voice sounded so weird, even despite him whispering. "Please, let me..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but instead let his lips land onto hers.
Confused, but not able to pull away, the girl let it happen, her eyes fluttering shut on instinct.
She felt her heart beating incredibly fast, even more as his tongue slipped inside her mouth.
While breathng faint sounds, Clover was amazed by how... perfect this felt.
This sensation, his kissing style, the way he moved and played with her, how they have stumbled backwards until she felt her back pressed against the wall...
It was so...
So full of...
Lust.
Clover realised too late she was done for.
The second she felt something besides his tongue inside her mouth, her opponent was pulling away, forcefully pressing a hand against her mouth.
When Clover opened her eyes, she wasn't looking into Beel's eyes,
But those of Asmodeus.
"Oh, my..." He purred, keeping the struggling girl in his grip easily. "What a kiss~! So full of emotions, so full of... Love~?"
Clover was desperate to not swallow the pill she felt being in her mouth, but in the end, she couldn't suppress the reflex.
Seconds later, she was coughing, and Asmo let go of her.
She fell onto her knees, holding her throat as she felt like being choked, in terrible need of air.
"I'm so sorry, darling. But I'm not a fan of blood and the like, so I decided to go with a weapon that is more my style..."
She managed to glance at Asmo as tears filled her eyes.
"But hey!" The demon cheered. "Maybe Beel was watching us from the spectator lobby, then he saw how passionate you are about making out with him!"
Then, her body fully collapsed, and Asmo took his time to loot her corpse.

“I can’t believe you crashed our drone into a tree.”
“OUR drone? You dimwitted simpleton-”
“If I may, Doctor,” Shadow was quick to interject before his boss lost his temper for the eighteenth (or was it nineteenth?) time today. “I suggest that we try to find a place to stay for the night while we consider a way to get it out of the tree. It might even fall out on its own eventually.”
Thanks to the engine that had fallen off of the drone because of Robotnik’s shit repair job, it hadn’t been too long before he had lost complete control of the machine and it had crash landed into a throng of trees a ways out in the woods surrounding Green Hills. They didn’t have to worry about anyone seeing them while they were out for a hike, but they were also out in such a secluded area that they would have to walk all the way to town in order to get supplies. Luckily, that was what Robotnik had minions for.
He heaved a deep breath around his gigantic mustache hairs and lifted his goggles onto his cleanly-shaved head. “Right. Shadow, you can run to the repair shop on 20th Street in Green Hills and get me some repair products,” He dug around in his pockets and dropped a list of supplies into Shadow’s gloved hands. “Make sure no one sees you. If they give you any trouble, eliminate them.”
“Yes, sir.” And with that, Shadow was gone. Robotnik turned back to Knuckles who was staring in awe as their drone swayed lightly in the tree. He pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a long sigh.
“I don’t suppose you could lift this out of the trees?”
Knuckles cracked his knuckles and gave him a smug smile. “I can do my best, Master.”
Well. Things were going just splendidly, now weren’t they?
♡♡♡
Meanwhile, Y/n, Sonic, Tails, and Spirit were packing up the truck for their mission. They didn’t have a clue how long they would be gone for, so they were preparing for the worst. Spirit had provided multiple weapons to defend herself whereas Sonic and Y/n simply packed any necessities they might need as they had powers for their only line of defense. Tails surprisingly said he would do fine on his own, but Tom gave him a couple dart guns just in case. When questioned about if her parents knew where she was going, the family was surprised to find out that Spirit was technically living by herself at the moment. Apparently her mom died when she was young and her father was always away on business trips, so when he did come home, he was pretty tired.
She assured them that she was fine, but Y/n couldn’t help but feel empathy for her. It was horrible to feel alone for so long, even when you’re surrounded by people. Maybe that’s why the two of them got along so well or why Spirit wanted to help them in any means that she could.
She knew what it was like to be lonely, too.
“Alright, are you guys sure that you have everything? You’re not going to die the second you’re without me?” Tom had to clarify. Maddie chuckled next to him, giving him a playful nudge with her shoulder.
“Tom, they’ll be fine. Besides, Sonic won’t let anything happen to Y/n. Isn’t that right?” She looked to the electric blue hedgehog, who firmly nodded his head and threw his arm around Y/n’s shoulders. She giggled softly.
“That’s right!”
“Good,” Tom grinned maliciously. “Because if you do, I’ll kick your ass all the way to-”
“DAD!” If Y/n were an anime character, she would be sweat dropping at this moment. She looked to Sonic, who had a petrified look on his face and quickly gave him a tight hug to reassure him. “Nothing is going to happen. We’ll be okay!”
“Right… And your mother and I will make sure that nothing bad happens around here. Besides Wade stealing my donuts…” Tom’s expression grew sour once more and the others could help but laugh. Finally, it was time to go.
After multiple rounds of hugs and farewells and worried expressions that failed to be suppressed, Y/n climbed behind the wheel with Sonic in the passenger seat and Spirit and Tails got comfortable in the backseat. Even once Y/n had pulled out of the driveway and had made their way onto the main roads, Tom and Maddie didn’t go back inside until they were out of sight for at least five minutes. Pure dread sat in the pit of their stomachs. Of course, no one was going to acknowledge the enormous elephant in the room named DANGER, but it was just Robotnik, after all. They had defeated him before with just Y/n and Sonic, and now they had backup this time. Things would be okay.
They would be just fine…
The ride out to the woods was silent for the most part, despite Sonic’s attempts to provide some comic relief. The weight of the situation was enough to shut everyone up, and they deserved a moment of silence anyways. They had been keeping up their act of pretending like this whole thing was an everyday occurrence and that they weren’t literally driving towards their potential demise. Or Y/n’s death.
Little did they know that as they were driving through the woods, Shadow was on his way back from shoplifting a bunch of supplies for his boss. The dark hedgehog was quick to hide behind some bushes as he watched the truck rumble over the uneven patches of dirt as Y/n did her best to keep it under control. Sonic had his head stuck out the passenger window like a dog while a human girl and an orange fox sat in the back, conversing amongst themselves. Shadow’s eyebrows knitted together in concentration. It was them.
He zipped back over to the drone, only to find a very peculiar sight before him. Robotnik had his arms wrapped tightly around a tree, almost as though he were trying to climb it but had given up three inches above the ground. Knuckles stood below him, trying desperately to push him up the tree. It wouldn’t have been awkward if Knuckles hands hadn’t been pressing against his butt.
“Shadow!” Robotnik cried, instantly dropping his legs, causing Knuckles to faceplant into the ground. “You’re back!”
“Doctor,” Shadow quickly dropped the bag of supplies onto the ground next to him and flicked his ears back and forth, searching for the sound of grass crunching underneath heavy tires. They were heading northeast, a decent ways away from their current campsite. “I saw the targets a little ways from Green Hills. They’re in a truck and they appeared to be coming out to camp.”
Robotnik instantly began to seethe with anger. He was in no condition to fight against them at this point, and it was entirely possible that they weren’t just out here for a weekend camping trip. They probably already knew they were out here somewhere. It wouldn’t be suitable if he went out there to rough them up, but maybe Knuckles and Shadow would be decent decoys to scare them off. Buy him some time to get his shit together. The two instantly agreed to the plan and set off in the direction of the truck.
♡♡♡
By the time Knuckles and Shadow finally reached them, the sun was beginning to set. The four had made a fire thanks to Spirit’s knowledge about camping and Tails had set up the sleeping arrangements inside the truck. Y/n and Sonic had been pulling out the bag full of food when Y/n’s ear twitched.
The trees hummed their warning to her and she lifted her head, eyes scanning the treeline cautiously. Someone was out there. Watching them.
“Sonic.”
The hedgehog in question turned his head to his girlfriend. His lighthearted expression instantly dropped when he saw her guard.
“You sense something, don’t you?” She didn’t even have to answer for him as a red laser came shooting out from between the trees. Only it wasn’t aimed for them. It was aimed at the fire where Spirit was setting it up. Tails’s eyes filled with fear.
“Look out, Spirit!” He leapt out of the car, slamming into her back and pressing her flat onto her stomach on the ground. She let out a small cry in surprise as the laser sunk into the tree behind her head.
“T-Tails?” The orangish-yellow fox quickly got off of her and gave her a sheepish smile, but his eyes still darted around the area where the laser had come from, ready to protect her if he needed to again. Y/n and Sonic beat him to the punch, however, as they jumped off of the bed of the truck and quickly stood in front of their friends protectively.
“Who’s there? Show yourself!” Y/n snarled into the darkness. Her hand twitched next to Sonic’s, her muscle memory reminding her that if it came down to it, they could always merge their powers again. She wasn’t about to let her friends get hurt on their first day of the job. Slowly, not one, but two figures began to emerge from the darkness. One bright red echidna and a hedgehog.
Black and red, with an evil glint in his eye.
Tumblr media
Y/n’s heart stopped. This hedgehog standing before her was the one who was going to try and kill her. It was uncanny. She didn’t know a single thing about him, who he worked for, what his name is, or how he was born. And yet she knew that he would try to kill her.
And he might succeed.
Sonic’s gaze sharpened as he watched them come to a stop a couple feet away from them. “Who are you? You look like you stepped out of a horribly written ‘80s kids TV show.”
“Is that an insult?” The echidna was evidently confused. The four took in his burly figure and slanted eyes. He looked like he could pick all of them up with one hand and bench press them for an hour straight if he had to.
“I believe it is,” The dark hedgehog rolled his eyes at his companion and stared at Spirit and Tails who were still lying on the ground. “I see they have some accomplices. Pity. I was hoping this would be challenging.”
The echidna rolled his eyes. “Why did one of them have to be a girl? I bet Robotnik wouldn’t mind if we just brought her back with us and took out the boy. Don’t want to get a pretty thing involved in this fighting, right?”
Y/n felt a flare of anger strike through her blood. Was he calling her weak? A pretty damsel in distress? The Princess Peach in Bowser’s clutches who couldn’t even run a brush through her hair without help? Her blood boiled.
Sonic’s on the other hand, exploded. His eyes narrowed to slits as he stretched his triceps. “See, now why did you have to go and threaten her? Now you made me mad.” And before Knuckles could say anything else, he was greeted with the feeling of Sonic’s fist sinking into his cheekbone. Tails quickly sprang up to go and help his friend just as one of the little egg drones came hovering by Spirit’s head. She growled at it, and grabbed a piece of stray wood, letting her enemy know she was a threat.
That left Y/n standing alone with Shadow.
She couldn’t help but tremble in his presence as he sighed, slipping his gun back into the holster around his waist. He hadn’t even taken the chance to get a good look at her, so he took this chance to do so. The second he took in her face, he felt his heart skip a beat. His ruby eyes widened as he stared into her beautiful e/c orbs. Her quills were brushed back against her beautiful blue fur in such a way that it made him want to run his hands through it. Her ears looked so soft and her eyes and nose were nothing short of gorgeous.
He was in love. In love with the enemy, oh how romantic! Perhaps he could take her back with him and find a way to convince Robotnik to let them get married, and then they could have a bunch of babies and they could leave these putrid allies of her behind! A blissful smile crossed his lips as he stared at her.
In Y/n’s point of view, she thought he looked like a pervert. Why the hell was he smiling at her like that? She grew uneasy, preparing herself to sing or to punch him - whichever was handy.
“W-what are you doing?” She hated herself for stuttering. Her speaking finally snapped him out of it - even her voice sounded like angels. She put her fists up in an attempt to defend herself, but her limbs felt frozen. Instead of making a move to fight her, he made a move in courtship. Shadow slowly began to make his way over to her, doing his best to look as sexy and appealing as possible. But in Y/n’s eyes, he looked like he had a stick up his ass.
He circled around her and finally came to a stop right before her, pursing his lips to the point where it looked like he had sucked on a lemon. Y/n’s features contorted between disgust and confusion as he stared deep into her eyes.
“Hello, there, gorgeous. I don’t believe we’ve met, I’m Shadow. And you are…?” He purred into her ear. Y/n tried desperately to move as a million red alarms went off in her brain, but her limbs appeared to have gone limp at her sides. She couldn’t move. She could only stare, wordless, at him as her heart pounded fearfully against her chest. Was this what sexual harassment felt like? He slowly tucked a strand of her quills behind her ear, sending chills down her spine. But it wasn’t even remotely close to the chills she got from Sonic. These were dread chills, ones of fear and danger. There were no sparks, no excitement, no passion.
Just fear.
Thankfully, while Tails and Spirit had been fighting off Knuckles and the egg drone, Sonic had glanced over just in time to see Shadow and Y/n. Only they weren’t fighting. Shadow had his hands on Y/n in places that they should not have been, staring at her with eyes that he wanted to prick out with a fork. Anger smacked the adrenaline out of his veins full force, and in a blue blur, he was shoving the dark hedgehog onto the ground. Shadow crashed onto the damp earth and let out a slight cry in shock. But Sonic wasn’t done yet. His jealousy took the wheel as he picked up a startled Y/n and threw her over his shoulder, keeping a firm grip around the back of her knees and her waist.
He turned just as Shadow had gotten back up and gave him the scariest death glare anyone had seen. “Y/n. Is. Mine. If you touch her again, I will fucking kill you.”
Y/n gasped softly at his words, but the flutter in her heart showed her appreciation. Unfortunately, Shadow didn’t quite share her emotions. As Sonic turned away from him and began to walk back towards the truck, he balled his hands into fists by his sides. A dark scowl drew across his lips as he shot invisible bullets at Sonic’s back.
“Love rival…”

After an unsuccessful attempt at scaring them off, Shadow and Knuckles headed back to their master. Later that night, Spirit had decided to take the first watch in order for Y/n, Sonic, and Tails to all get some well deserved sleep. She sat on the top of the truck with one of Tom’s dart guns and one of her baseball bats sitting in her lap while the other three were in the back of the truck. Tails had curled up in the passenger seat and had been asleep for quite some time while Y/n and Sonic had opted to share the backseat.
They laid curled up next to one another with a couple of blankets and pillows for comfort. But even as Y/n heard the soft breaths of her boyfriend as he drifted off into sleep, she couldn’t seem to find a way to close her eyes. She couldn’t believe the events that had happened today, how she had met the guy who was supposed to kill her and he ended up falling in love with her instead.
She slowly turned onto her side, wincing as Sonic stirred in his sleep. God, he looked so peaceful while he was sleeping. He cared about her so much… she couldn’t help but grin as the image of him tossing her into her arms came back into her brain. He was adorable when he was jealous. She slowly stroked one of his ears, not being able to resist how soft they looked. She made sure to keep her touches gentle so as to not wake him up. Little did she know that he had only been half asleep.
He let out the cutest sound she had ever heard (a mix between a moan and a purr) as her touch finally lulled him into a deep sleep. She stifled a giggle as she watched him nod off and gently pressed a kiss to his temple. Things were going to be okay. As long as she had him by her side, she knew that nothing bad could happen.
They were going to be fine.

#117 Drills (Training)
A life of superheroism is a life of having to always be in tiptop shape. You never know when a supervillain might pop up with a squid-gun or a razor-laser ready to wreak havoc on your city. So you need to always be ready. In pursuit of this goal, to ensure that your mind and body are always ready for such things, I recommend running drills.
The perfect drill will test all of your skills at once in order to sculpt you into the most efficient and effective crime fighter you can be. The drills you run should require you to solve problems creatively, think on your feet, make good use of all your powers, while also giving you a full workout. Which is a tall order we understand but if you weren’t interested in putting any work in you shouldn’t have doused yourself in all of those chemicals!
As we all know though, working out sucks. It’s just the worst. Anybody who claims otherwise is either under some sort of mind control or the lying head of a two-headed dragon that’s guarding a bridge you want to cross. Despite that you can’t really be an effective hero without it. What if Penelope Deedious kidnaps the mayor and holds her hostage in her dirigible? How are you going to get her back, if you haven’t trained for that kind of thing?
So you need to get creative (or you need to hire someone else to get creative, I’m available). You need to first make a list of all your regular enemies. Think of the ten bad guys you fight most frequently (also find out how they keep getting out of jail. Do they just have really good lawyers? Are other bad guys breaking them out? Is jail an ineffective way of stopping crime?) write down everything you know about them. The kinds of crimes they usually commit, their powers and abilities, what kind of technology or weapons they have access to, the average time it takes them to get through a monologue. Then do the same for the last ten bad guys you’ve fought (if there’s a difference), even if they’re not your usuals. They could be up-and-coming supervillains and it’s a good idea to assume you’ll be seeing them again. Then find the nearest clairvoyant and find out who the next ten bad guys you’re going to fight are and write up a similar chart. And then, just for good measure, make a list of all of those bad guys’ close relatives and write down everything you know about them. 40% of the world’s bad guys only became villains because their evil relatives were defeated or killed or were the closest thing to a father/mother/weird uncle they had. So it pays to be prepared for that.
Once you’ve done all that you should head to the last few prisons they’ve stayed at and steal… a look at their psych evals (seriously though, do whatever you need to do to get them short of murder) [no]. Using these files you’ll be able to gain greater insight into what drives these villains, and how they’ve been known to react to different types of stimuli and conditions. This will allow you to plan and practice for a wide variety of different situations that have never even occurred yet.
Get your live-in scientist or a super-genius friend to build some automatons or hard-light holograms that can be programmed with the approximate personalities and abilities of your enemies. Get your hands on some news footage so you can see how they move and how they fight and program these combat-droids to do the same. Once you’ve got reasonable facsimiles of your enemies you’ll be able to plop them into different scenarios so you can try to defeat them in a low stakes setting. Plus once you’ve got yourself all these drones you can program them do all sorts of things when you’re not training. Program them to drive you around, do all your chores, laugh at all your jokes they’ll be like the manservants and friends you never had!
Once you’ve got your practice combatants, you’ll need to find a place to actually run your drills. Certain drills can be run in the comfort of your home. Classic drills like disarming a bad guy who attacks you while you’re trying to eat you breakfast (the trick is to jam your spoon into their eye and the pour milk on them), or saving the world without missing the season finale of your favorite show (the move here is to trick the would be Armageddon-inducing bad guy to enact their plan in your living room {which you’ll of course pass off as some random person who is unaffiliated with you’s living room}) should be conducted in your own home as that is where the real situation is most likely to occur. For other drills though you’re going to need a bigger space. Some superheroes have large dedicated rooms within their hideouts with built in hologram projectors and confiscated evil lasers or other weapons that they can use for training. Just be wary of accidentally destroying your own home in the midst of foiling a fake nefarious plot. As an alternative you can try searching the internet for nearby abandoned warehouses or ghost towns depending on the scale of the drill you’re trying to run. Since these places are abandoned you can cause as much damage as you’d like and it is unlikely that you’ll mistakenly attract the attention of other heroes who might swoop in thinking you’re in actual danger. Some heroes will actually go the extra step and purchase these abandoned properties but that is hardly mandatory.
Ideally your drills would be much more strenuous and difficult than any real battle you’ll have to fight. This way when it comes time to actually fight some bad guys it will be a walk in the park compared to the time when you fought six robotic lava monsters in the nearby abandoned park conveniently placed right by your hideout. But of course you can’t just dive into these extra-hard simulations right away. Start off easy, choreograph fights with muggers or low-level thugs. Once you can do that in your sleep ramp it up a little. And so on and so forth. You need to always be dialing it up though. You never want to get complacent. If you stick to a consistent regimen, and keep developing (or having me develop) newer and more outlandish scenarios for you to master, you’ll soon find that you’re able to face any challenge. Even if you haven’t specifically prepared for it. You won’t enjoy it though. No matter how many drills you run, working out will always suck.
