Okay.. I had this idea in my head and I thought it was so hot!
Paul and reader in a club with the pack and they’re having fun and dancing and shit and the two of them are on a couch in a dark corner, she’s straddling his lap, grinding on him to the music (I was listening to wine slow - gyptian) and they’re making out and touching each other all over.
Please 😩
PLEASE😮‍💨
...
"such a good girl," paul murmured as you ground your hips down against his, letting out a low groan at the action. he tightened his grip on your hips, tugging you down so you were forced to roll your hips against the bulge in his sweatpants for a bit longer, a smirk on his face as you let out a soft whine at the pleasurable action.
"paul-" you whimpered, voice catching as you slid your hands up his clothed chest, fists tightening on his t-shirt as he slid one hand down to teasingly brush his thumb over your jean shorts, the touch combined with the fabric of your jeans stimulating your clit just enough to have you whining underneath him.
"that's my girl," he mused, sliding his other hand up your back to knot his fingers in your hair, tugging you down to kiss him. you were quick to melt into his touch, lips moving against each other sensually as you slid your hands up his chest to wrap around his neck, effectively anchoring him against you.
"paul-" you whimpered as he parted from your lips momentarily to let you catch your breath. he just let out a breathy chuckle, sliding his free hand up to your breast, teasingly rolling his thumb over your covered nipple.
you let out a low whine at the action, closing your eyes and dropping your head back as you processed the pleasure and frustration you felt from not being able to do much more than what you were currently doing.
paul leaned forward, peppering your neck and collarbone with sloppy kisses, pausing with each kiss just long enough to leave a trail of hickies across your neck, marking you as his. you ground your hips down against his again, both of you letting out low moans at the action, "paul-" you whined his name again, threading your fingers through his short hair as he lifted his head to look at you, a teasing smirk covering his features.
"can't wait?" he asked teasingly, letting out a breathy chuckle when you nodded eagerly, anxiously gnawing at your lower lip as you waited for him to continue.
he leaned in, lips barely brushing against your ear as he murmured, "go into the bathroom, yea? i'll meet you there in a minute."

Tim, breaking in Ra's' office: "We need to talk"
Ra's: "Beloved, as much as I adore our meetings, I'm currently rather occupied - "
Tim, huffing: "I don't care. And trust me, you will want to defend yourself before I ask someone else"
Ra's: "... What is it?"
Tim: "Imagine my delightful surprise when, while updating your old ass softwares and doing back ups of your database, I found this"
*Tim pulls out photo of Dinah and Ra's kissing*
Ra's: "..."
Tim: "..."
Ra's: "It's not what you're thinking"
Tim: "Oh, f*ck you! 800 years alive and you can't make up a better answer?"
Ra's: "But it is not what you're assuming"
Tim: "It looks like you were head over heels over Dinah's big tits, lied to her about who you were, pretended to be a rich eccentric widowed millionaire and proposed marriage to her!"
Ra's: "... It might be what you're thinking!"
Tim: "Ra's!"
Ra's: "It was years ago! I would have shared that with you hadn't I known you would react like this"
Tim: "So you say this is my fault? How many exes have you hidden from me!?"
Ra's: "... I do not keep count of the people I bed, Timothy. Yet I promise Dinah is the only fiancee I didn't told you about. I have shared the names and deaths of every spouse that was part of my life."
Tim: "Are you sure?"
Ra's: "Do you doubt me?"
*Tim pulls out picture of Ra's with a kidnapped Diana, kissing her*
Ra's: "This is defamation "
Tim: "I'm so gonna kill you, old man!"
Ra's: "I swear they are the only ones I didn't tell you about. I even told you about Evelyn!"
Tim: "Because I was there when you married Evelyn, you geriatric idiot!"
Ra's: "There's no need to fight. I didn't marry Dinah nor Diana, and whatever feelings we had, they disappeared as fast as they came. They were lovely companions, but not..."
*Tim pulls out picture of Ra's and Ivy kissing*
Tim: "🙂"
Ra's: "Er, she drugged me?"
Tim: "You know what? I don't even want to keep going on with this"
Ra's: "Timothy, wait..."
Tim, on the doorframe: "Actually, one last thing"
Ra's: "... And that is?"
Tim, smirking: "I lied. I did sleep with Jean-Paul many times. I guess you're right to be jealous"
*Insert Ra's' scream of horror here*

For the flower prompts...
Calla Lily (it's my favourite flower) - Something at first sight.
I leave it to you to do any Sandman pairing you have an itch to write. 💜😊
Ooooooo this one is so appropriate for me as one of my fave fics I’ve written (not for this fandom) is called Calla Lillies 💖💖 I also added a little personalized twist on this, just for you 😘
Flower Prompt Game!
(Also, for anyone still wondering, I am in fact still accepting prompts! Gonna be a bit slow and answer one or two a day, but I’m so glad this has been such a hit!)
—---
When Morpheus Endless (and isn’t that the name of the century?) enters the coffee shop in a whirlwind of taut anxiety and indignant rage, Simon Snow does not even say hello, he merely takes up residence at the espresso machine to start preparing the most absurdly complex drink known to man.
“Your man is here,” Penelope deadpans, and Simon rolls his eyes. Morpheus is not his man. He’s very nice to look at, yes, and he may or may not bear a striking resemblance to Simon’s hopelessly secret crush arch nemesis, but they’re too alike in temperament to be anything more than friends. But he can see where the confusion comes from.
When he finishes making Morpheus’s regular order, he calls for his break and walks over, drink in hand, to the corner Morpheus and his terribly bad mood have taken up residence.
“Bad day?” Simon asks, placing the absurdly sweet concoction down on the table where Morpheus has sprawled all his notebooks and laptop. He’s not looking at any of it though, more preoccupied with whatever social media scandal is happening on his phone.
“Cory left me,” Morpheus growls, tapping angrily at the screen. “For Alex Burgess. Who, as you recall, is currently still in a relationship with Paul Mcguire, the unfaithful bastard.”
Simon has no idea who these people are besides Cory, who has come into the shop with Morpheus once. He doesn’t pay attention to the campus gossip. More specifically, the rich people campus gossip. Because Simon is here at the university on scholarship, working part time at the local coffee shop for a little extra spending money, and Morpheus is part of the very small, elite group of legacy family admissions.
No one, not even Penelope, Simon’s best friend since childhood, understands why he and Morpheus get along so well. Simon knows it’s partially because he’s the only one willing to make Morpheus’s stupidly complicated order, and partially because they’re both grumpy bisexuals who fall in love too easily with the wrong people.
“You were too good for him anyways,” Simon replies, plopping down into the chair next to Morpheus.
“Damn right I am,” Morpheus answers, picking up his coffee that is actually more syrup, sugar and milk than anything resembling coffee. And that was after Simon added four shots of espresso. He groans happily as he takes his first sip. “He was awful in bed anyways.”
Simon snorts. “Maybe you should try not dating rich assholes,” he offers.
“No? I should only pine for them hopelessly from across the rugby pitch?” Morpheus answers pointedly.
“Wow, you’re lucky I’m on shift or I’d tip that sad excuse for coffee into your lap,” Simon bites back, feeling the familiar heat of anger rise up in him. Because of course Morpheus knew about Simon’s complicated feelings towards Baz. But he didn’t have to be an asshole about it just because he got dumped.
Morpheus sniffles. “These jeans are Gucci,” is all he says back, before taking another sip of his coffee and letting the subject drop.
———————
Simon’s break is over before he knows it, and not a moment too soon. He and Penelope are swamped by the late-afternoon rush. Simon doesn’t know how so many people could be craving coffee this late in the day, but to each their own. Morpheus had ordered a second cup of his ungodly drink right before the rush hit, and it’s when he’s finishing up that drink and getting ready to leave that half the rugby team decides to walk into the cafe and ruin Simon’s day.
“Snow,” Baz Pitch sneers at him when he gets to the counter to order. Simon rolls his eyes.
“Let me guess, black tea for the blackness in your soul?” he retorts, smirking when Baz’s face goes tight with annoyance.
“Ooooh, this guy’s got you down to a T,” a brunette answers, coming up from behind Baz and draping an arm over his shoulders.
“Shut up Hob,” Baz replies, rolling his eyes and shrugging his friend off before turning back to Simon. “And yes, black tea, but do try not to over-steep it this time Snow.”
“I’ll have a caramel latte,” the man called Hob adds, “with extra caramel syrup since Bazzy’s paying.”
“Hob I swear if you call me Bazzy one more time—”
“Yeah, yeah, you’ll sue me for defamation somehow, hey, can I get a couple of cake pops too?” Hob answers all in one breath. Simon gets the impression the man is something like a golden retriever in human form.
“Sure, anything for a friend of Bazzy's,” Simon chuckles before he turns to work on their order. He can practically feel Baz seething from behind him as he prepares their order.
As he’s getting ready to prepare Hob’s latte, Simon catches Morpheus out of the corner of his eye approaching the counter, and he instinctively starts preparing a drink for him as well. Seriously, how the hell could Morpheus stomach one of these, let alone three in a single sitting?
“The line is behind me, Endless,” Simon hears Baz say.
“Ah, that’s where you’re mistaken, Basil,” Morpheus replies smoothly. “There is no line when you’re the favorite.”
“Who the hell says you’re the favorite?” Baz snaps
“I do,” Simon cuts in, bringing over the order, and making sure to hand Morpheus’s drink over first. He can just tell Baz is irrationally mad about the whole thing. “Unlike some other customers, Morpheus is a sweetheart.”
“Thank you, dear heart,” Morpheus practically coos at him before turning back to Baz and Hob and smirking. “The cake pops are quite good, by the way.”
“Good to know!” Hob answers cheerily. “Did you want one, by the way? Didn’t realize how large they were,” he adds holding one out.
Morpheus looks taken aback, but accepts the cake pop with a meek thank you and then with their order complete, the rugby team starts making their way towards the exit. Morpheus stares after them as they leave, cake pop still in hand.
“I think I’m in love,” Morpheus says once the cafe has totally emptied out.
“You’re what now?” Simon exclaims, then groans. “Please tell me this isn’t about the cake pop.”
“He has nice eyes,” Morpheus argues. “And if he tolerates Basil’s awful attitude, I’m practically a ray of sunshine in comparison.”
“You're not wrong,” Penelope cuts in, leaning her elbows down on the counter next to Simon. “And if Morpheus can get Hob, maybe he can help you get Baz, Si.”
“That is a terrible plan,” Simon says. “And anyways, Baz hates me.”
“It’s an excellent plan,” Morpheus replies. “And also, you’re an idiot. Basil was ready to stab me with my own fountain pen for touching you so casually.”
“He was not!” Simon squeaks.
“No, he definitely was, I’m with Morpheus here,” Penelope says. “Maybe you two should pretend to date and see how long it takes for Baz to crack.”
“Absolutely not,” Simon says at the same time Morpheus answers “That’s an excellent idea.”
Simon groans.
“I don’t have a choice in the matter do I?” he asks.
“Not at all,” Morpheus replies, biting into the cake pop.

Samsara (Guerlain, 1989 EdP & 2023 EdT)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A sandalwood overdose embellished by ylang-ylang and jasmine. Samsara is the first woody women's fragrance in perfumery. It is constructed over a beautifully crafted sandalwood, used for the first time in these quantities in perfumery. (Guerlain.com)
From Eau de Tati, the back story:
Jean-Paul Guerlain created Samsara in 1985 for Decia de Powell, the woman he loved and who wore the fragrance for four years before it was launched. Jean-Paul took the opportunity to create the perfume for her, as she could not find a perfume that appealed to her. She liked jasmine and sandalwood, in particular, and these were the raw materials on which Samsara was based.
It seems that Gérard Anthony co-created the fragrance, but Guerlain has always loved a good legend. Whether the Sanskrit word "saṃsāra" ("the concept of rebirth and 'cyclicality of all life, matter, existence'") suits the fragrance as a name is a lengthy discussion I'll leave to others.
On the face of it, Samsara is another Guerlain journey into orientalism (stop that!); it's a classic example of loud 1980s fragrance (outdated); it's a benchmark in the Western perfume industry's use of sandalwood (notable). I wanted to write up this one purely because I already had it on hand: when I say "1989," I mean, my mom gave me an eau de parfum sample in 1989. I would have been about ten years old, and I loved collecting little sample vials that gave me too many headaches to actually use—just to keep in my little treasure boxes full of costume jewelry and tumbled rocks and skeleton keys. Apparently I was a magpie, or maybe a dragon. There's only about five molecules left, but as it turns out, that is more than enough.
I also ordered a fresh decant of the current formulation from the Perfumed Court—all they had was the eau de toilette, not the EdP, so this is not a one-to-one comparison. Instead, we have, on one hand, the most aged a Samsara can get, saved since its debut year, and on the other, the lightest, freshest iteration possible. It's lovely, that new EdT. But it's not what I expected at all. A couple of years ago I managed to uncork the 1989 Samsara, and all I got was this incredible note of mingled sandalwood and jasmine—just the richest, smoothest, deepest thing you've ever smelled. But the new one, from my notes: "BUBBLEGUM??"
Powdery fresh floral, rose? Like a living flower that happens to be powdery, not a cosmetic. Very very fresh and outdoorsy, like a garden. The vague idea of sandalwood underneath. Something a bit sweeter coming out, maybe vanilla jasmine. Very light, very easy to wear. Airy, breezy. Sheer.
And then, ten minutes in, bubblegum came out. Motherfucking bubblegum. I had to look up what the old-fashioned Bazooka Joe-type flavor is, because it's not that—there's no tiny twang of clove or wintergreen hiding behind the fruits and vanilla. This is straight-up Juicy Fruit gum. Which involves banana, pineapple, and maybe peach, for a flavor "resembling jackfruit." Now, apparently jackfruit contains "banana oil," aka isoamyl acetate, so I went and googled it on a hunch: yes, it’s in ylang ylang too. Combine that with Samsara's actual peach note (although it smells fresher than the lactone in Mitsouko) and vanilla—
Tumblr media
Basenotes.com: Green notes, peach, ylang ylang, bergamot, lemon, iris and orris, violet, jasmine, rose, narcissus, sandalwood, tonka, amber, musk, and vanilla.
—and you've got a powdery-nectar sandalwood bubblegum. It's so good. Two birthdays ago, I got myself a wide-ranging set of essential oils, just so I could see what things smell like individually; the night after I tried Samsara, I started messing around with them, and it's 10,000% the ylang that's bringing the strange fruity note. I rarely if ever see anyone mention the ylang-ylang in Samsara—they always talk about how strong the jasmine is, but I SWEAR TO YOU that this is what it does on me. In fact, twenty minutes in, Bubble Ylang was mostly what I was smelling.
At the same time, the fresh EdT was really, really powdery—you see iris there in not one but two levels of the note pyramid, and orris is just iris root. The classic Guerlains use the ionones of iris and violet a lot; they're in the house accord, the Guerlinade, which I may also try to get a sample of. But the powder is so much stronger in Samsara than I expected. I was promised a sandalwood overdose, and I'm sitting here with Juicy Fruit floating over a bed of irises—like the row of cool dark purple ones we had lining our driveway when I was a kid—at the half-hour mark. According to my notes, I didn't really get ~sandalwood until an hour-twenty, and even that was still blurring into the ylang-ylang. (Apparently these two notes are really compatible; it's the only thing same combination I liked in Chanel No. 5.) That said, it's lovely and sweet and easygoing if you APPLY SPARINGLY. Of the three Guerlains I've tried, this one was by far the easiest to wear.
Which is wild, because supposedly, Samsara is A Sandalwood Bomb, a true big-hair fume of the '80s that will choke you out of a room. And yet, I didn't even get the sandalwood clearly until more than an hour in. There's two reasons for this, I discovered:
One is that I microdose perfume. I always point this out because I want you to understand that if you apply more fragrance than I do, you are not going to get the tame results I do. If you spray Tyrannosaurus Rex all over yourself, there is nothing god or mortal can do for you. I used two swipes of the Samsara sample wand on my left wrist—and it did project a good bit, but it was comfortable. If I'd done the same on my right wrist to balance it out, I would have considered myself good to go for a perfume-appropriate occasion. Maybe if you didn't deploy FIVE SPRAYS you wouldn’t be choking on it, idk idk.
The other reason is that the current formulation of Samsara uses Australian sandalwood—whereas the original used a much richer Indian variety. I was surprised to discover that Samsara has always been formulated as a meeting of natural and synthetic sandalwoods, though. But the current version has a newer synthetic: Javanol. And the thing about Javanol is that some people can't smell it. And I may be one of them. Because there is no reason "an overdose of sandalwood" should smell this modest to me, in the same perfume that is shouting white floral, unless I physically cannot perceive its loudest component. But I'm smelling some sandalwood; that must be the natural oil.
For more on Javanol, I turn to a fragrance I haven't actually tried yet: Escentric Molecules' Molecule 04. Javanol is, in fact, that molecule. The product website explains, it's a synthetic that
retains the radiance and endurance of natural sandalwood, but is sheer and transparent like no sandalwood in nature. “What I love about Javanol is its almost psychedelic freshness,” says [creator] Geza Schoen. “It smells as if liquid metallic grapefruit peel were poured over a bed of velvety cream-coloured roses.” Javanol is like Iso E Super, the molecule in Escentric Molecules 01, in some ways. Like Iso E Super, it comes and goes. The person wearing it loses the ability to smell it after a short while, only to re-connect with it later.
Well, "it comes and goes" may be why I'm not smelling as much sandalwood in Samsara as advertised, I guess—maybe I’m not totally anosmic to Javanol? The company that makes it, Givaudan, says that the aromachemical has
a rich, natural, creamy sandalwood note like beta santanol combined with  some rosy nuances. It can also be used at very low dosage (below 0.1%)  to bring richness and creaminess to all types of accords. With its exceptional low threshold, Javanol™ is approximately 8 times more effective in wash tests than the most powerful sandalwood product. [...] In the quest for the perfect Indian Sandalwood, Javanol™ is probably the most versatile note with its power, radiance, woodiness and rosiness, blending perfectly with flowers.
Javanol blends so perfectly with ylang and jasmine, in fact, that I can hardly distinguish it through most of Samsara's lifespan on my skin (I appreciate a good olfactory chimera, so that's fine). I can also see why you'd reformulate Samsara, already famous for its Godzilla-sized projection, with the biggest, loudest synthetic sandalwood on the market. But the thing is, the Beast of Givaudan wasn't created until 1996. Javanol may be what Guerlain has paired with Australian sandalwood nowadays, but my original sample was made with [probably a mix of synthetics including] Givaudan's Sandalore and the good stuff—20% (!) Mysore sandalwood.
Mysore Sandalwood Oil is a trademarked perfume oil extracted from the Santalum album variety of sandalwood tree (also known as a "royal tree") in the Mysore district of Karnataka, India. The tree species is said to be one of the best varieties in the world. (Wikipedia, the most concise explainer)
It's also the most expensive. But while I'm sure reformulations are a cost-cutting measure, sandalwood sustainability has also become a huge issue; I'm happy with synthetics if it helps the cause. The Australian sandalwood used in the current Samsara seems to be a popular and less-threatened natural option; it's also in two other fragrances I'm trying at the moment, Le Labo's Santal 33 and Tom Ford's Santal Blush. But it's like the difference between tulle and velvet. You can still use it beautifully, but there is a smoothness and a weight that's missing. People say that Mysore sandalwood is "creamy," even sweet, and it is, but not in a dairy or dessert way; it's legitimately this kind of olfactory texture that's so good. By contrast, the scent of Australian sandalwood feels a little harsh in the top of my nose, full of wood grain and pencil shavings, but also lighter. And yet it blends just as well with the notes of the new Samsara, just in different ways.
As for the old—Mysore and Sandalore® were what greeted me when I uncapped my vintage, 34-year-old sample:
oh my god. ohhhhh my gooooood.
That big sweet fruity ylang-ylang immediately bounced right out—how had I only smelled jasmine in the vial before? I'll stop here and tell you a little bit about ylang-ylang, which is not the note I was expecting to go on about, but here we are:
When you hear about "white florals," they're generally talking about jasmine, gardenia, tuberose (you'll remember this one from HYPNOTIC POISON), lily, lily of the valley—and ylang ylang, even though the latter is a showy yellow flower. I truly don't know how to describe the White Floral if you're not familiar with it, especially since I've never perceived any funky "animalic" indole notes. It's just good to me, very rich, very perfumy, and apparently it does, in an aromatherapy context, have a slightly sedative effect; this may be why people talk about "narcotic" white florals. Ylang-ylang takes the woozy richness of jasmine and, uniquely, adds that fruity, slightly spicy, banana-esque note; I'd love to look for the differences between white florals as I try out more fragrances. With Samsara(s), the jasmine doesn't seem distinct to me, serving instead to support the ylang-ylang, and maybe this is why I only smelled jasmine in the vial: it's my skin chemistry, once again, that's playing favorites.
You know what else my skin apparently loves? Expensive vintage sandalwood. The original Samsara skipped straight to the 1:20 mark and—speaking of narcotics—hit me like a tranquilizer dart. I just curled up on my bed and held my wrist to my nose for about an hour. I was like a cat on the 'nip. My God. I had some hand-me-down incense sticks from the '70s when I was a teenager, and I have been chasing that sandalwood high for three decades. This is it. The blanket of iris, the bergamot blast other reviewers talk about (I only got it the third time I wore the EdT), the supporting cast of notes—barely there. Just the gold.
For about two hours, it was amazing. Then, gradually, Samsara grew more and more overpowering, like a rogue science project slowly ballooning out of control. I ended up wiping it off with a little jojoba oil—not washing it off (DON'T WASTE IT!!), but reducing the amount I had on. There's only about two drops, thick as maple syrup, left in that vial, and that's fine.
Meanwhile, every time I wear the current eau de toilette, it disappears after about three hours.
I wish I'd been able to get a current EdP sample to compare the two formulations directly. But you know what? I still enjoy the iris-forward, sandalwood-backward Samsara. It's easy to wear and it doesn't overstay its welcome, which is a good thing for someone with fragrance sensitivities (me). As much as I love the smooth golden Mysore aspect, I'd rather have the option to reapply than be trapped with the Sandalwood That Ate 1989.

Batfam Spreadsheet 2 - Metadata Boogaloo
Remember when I made a giant spreadsheet of Batfam comic appearances well here's a GIANT update because hyperfixation is real! (Uploaded as a whole new spreadsheet because it's. A lot of updates. This thing has become a monster. I highly recommend hiding columns you don't care about in the master list for ease of use.)
Updates:
Added cover dates for all issues!
Added roles and identities for all character appearances as filterable columns (see below for more details)! Wanna only see times Steph showed up as Robin, or find those issues where Jason was being Nightwing? You can filter for that!
More minor characters added to the sheet: Bao Pham, Bette Kane, Charlie Gage-Radcliffe, Claire Clover, Cullen Row, David Zavimbe, Hank Clover, Minhkhoa Khan, and Wendy Harris
Appearances up to date through cover date November 2023 (actual release date September 2023). (I intend to update at the end of every month, but it's at least current through then.)
LINK
Roles: Characters are listed by Major, Supporting, Minor, Cameo and Unreal roles. Cameos that are only on a cover/in a photo are noted as such. When a character appears in both the main story and flashback both are listed separately (e.g. Supporting; Flashback). When characters are only in flashback, that's listed with a clarifying role (e.g. Flashback (Supporting)). Roles listed as "Flashback" only are either Minor or Cameo roles. Unreal indicates the character is in a dream/hallucination/vision/etc.
Character names in the Identity column indicate someone is out of costume or at a point where they aren't using a secret identity (flashbacks before officially taking it up, gaps where they stopped, etc.)
Related: I'm very much relying on wikis/databases for what identity and role people have in a particular issue because a) I have not read every single one of the 5200+ of these issues and b) I'm not great at remembering things by issue number anyway for what I have read. So, you know, grain of salt, sorry if someone's mis-labeled here and there.
Notes from the previous issue that still apply:
The Spreadsheet currently contains all post-crisis appearances for the following characters: Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain, Damian Wayne, Dick Grayson, Duke Thomas, Harper Row, Helena Bertinelli, Jace Fox, Jarro, Jason Todd, Jean-Paul Valley, Kate Kane, Luke Fox, Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake. I feel like that's most of the big ones (and several not-very-big-ones), but if there's a Bat-person missing you'd like to see on there, feel free to ask!
All sheets are conditionally formatted so if you enter "Y" in the Read column it will highlight the whole row in green to mark it off, if you're the kind of person who likes to keep track and mark things off a list.
Dates are the start of the series, since that's how a lot of places besides DC itself with their weird "volume" convention distinguish different runs.
Character lists aren't split into Preboot vs. New 52 vs. Rebirth vs. IF, sorry. You can figure it out by the dates for the most part, though. (New 52 was 2011, Rebirth was 2016, IF was 2022.)
On that note, all of this was pulled from the DC Wiki, and while I did a little bit of spot-checking as I went for things I knew off the top of my head it's entirely possible things are missing or mis-attributed. I'm happy to update accordingly if there are.
((I am low-key considering expanding into various Bat-adjacent teams (Titans, Outsiders, YJ, etc.) but those would probably be separate sheets rather than making this one even more gigantic. We shall see.))

stories i om-nom-nom'd :: march 2024 (week 4)
Welcome to a new thing I wanna try and do to keep some form of writing exercise while I'm lowkey kinda struggling to bang stories out (pun kinda intended). Here I'm just gonna talk abt what I've been reading and watching and playing for the past week and rambling on what I think about them. Summaries for the story either in full or the story so far will be included, and that's the only form of "spoiler warning" I'm gonna give.
Everything below the cut.
movies
Dual (2022)
Tumblr media
Considering my interpretation of how the fight between Sarah and her Double went down, I'm in so much pain for her. She already escaped her grayscale dreary life and now she has to live in it again to keep up appearances? She deserves to live, dammit.
Full summary + rant/review here
books
Double Cross by Campbell Thompson
I'm only a chapter in and let me just say right now I love the introduction of Verity and how she really went by her own rules and swiped a watch from a handsy sleazy customer of Eighth Circle. And here we also have an introduction to Thomas Cross that's every bit intimidating as he found the pricey lil trinket she swiped and we end the chapter with him bringing her into his office. 🫢 Now see this is how I know there's smth wrong w me because that last scene got the butterflies going with a vengeance fully knowing that Thomas Cross looks like this:
Tumblr media
games
Undercover: Blood Bonds
Undercover: Blood Bonds is a time-management game from GameHouse under their Original Stories line, and requires either a GHOS subscription (under $100/year for full access to all 60+ games) to play the full game, or full payment of the single game (about $10/game), or each level will be locked behind an unskippable ad that's at most 60secs long. I'm playing with the GHOS subscription.
The story I've unlocked so far is that we follow the journey of Vera, a journalist that's gone undercover as bar staff in a nightclub to find out what's happened to her sister Lilly. In a flashback, we get to see that what kicked off the events of the game was that Vera went home to her shared apartment with her sister, only to be greeted with everything turned upside down in an obvious struggle, and a pool of blood on the floor.
Delicious: True Love
Delicious: True Love is another story in the GHOS collection, and tells the story of Emily Napoli, going on adventures and crossing continents to reunite with her long lost love Jean-Paul. Right now she's on a train to Paris with her luggage having made it there before her so she's earning her keep there by helping out in the restaurant.
I've been playing the spin-off "alternate timeline" version of the story called "Delicious World" for a few years on and off, and I've enjoyed the hijinks she's gotten up to so far there with all the twists and turns and antics she's gotten up to with her eventual hubby Patrick. And considering I've got the time due to being in the job hunting phase, I figured 'why not?' and I'd play through the original story.
Delicious World
Speaking of the alternate timeline story, I'm also playing through this game this week, as I have been for the last few weeks. I'm currently in Season 2 Episode 3 where Emily's rekindled her romance with Jean-Paul and ngl they're being quite adorable with their constant kissies and sneaking off to his trailer. We also have a cute lil reveal that her bestie Frank's got a bit of a fling going on with her Rising Chef competitor Monet.
Top that off with Emily having some insecurities popping up because she saw JP's phone lighting up with the name of another celebrity chef Shivani Khurana, her competitor (and current rival) Sarah's older sister. And what's got her stomach in knots is that some time ago, there was a rumor that Shivani and JP had a thing for each other. 🫢☹️
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
I've played through all the quests available under "The Island Mystery" and so far all I got is that the Little TwinStars have this master plan going on that they don't wanna share with the class, and they're acutely aware of exactly how much more we have to do so that we can fully heal the Island Spirit that I have jokingly nicknamed Loki because she's stuck in the heart of a tree.
Ohh and there was a quip from Badtz-Maru about us all being locked in a time loop, so if Sanrio and Sunblink are trying to beat the "Loki crossover" allegations (that are literally just coming from me in the name of jokes and vibes), they're not doing the best job at it.
Disney Dreamlight Valley
Aaaaah, Dreamlight Valley…the game that inspired a whole new story universe (coming to you soon on the writing/main blog), I've also played through all the story quests for this one and I'm chomping at the bit waiting for the new releases for Spring and Summer.
There's definitely something to look out for with Skull Rock, considering that the final quest of Act 1 after facing off and reconciling with The Forgotten centers around the entrance way into said rock. And the friendship quests for The Forgotten mention it twice. And with the way they built it up, I'm hoping that it's gonna be more than just another home for another character. Like idk…maybe a portal? To Neverland? Or Pixie Hollow? Maybe if we get Hook he'll look and sound a bit more like…him?

Nothing left to do but pspspspspspsps, I guess
youtube channels that got my watch hours
Johnniibeanasmr
I don't vibe with a lot of male ASMR channels mostly bc they all have an overly gimicky feel to them, but I vibe w this one a lot. The videos have a cozy atmosphere to them and he's got a soft relaxing whisper that can lull me to sleep. The one that's made it to my "sleepies" playlist is this spider web one:
TheoryVerse
MatPat's theory channels have been with their new hosts for a few weeks now, and personally I think they're doing a great job with their own domains so far. Even though some snarky dude that'll hiss when their skin touches the sunlight and their 3 chest hairs is consistently in my comment replies tryna tell me otherwise (bitch touch grass, honestly).
Anyways, I've still got a good handful of new theories to binge but I'll give some bits that I picked up from the batch that I watched the week before.
Amy Marie validated that I'm already using a pretty good razor for my shaving shenanigans, but there's a potentially better one that I'll probs look into one of these days. She also showed that ultimately what makes the biggest difference is prep and aftercare of the skin, so that's gonna be something I gotta add to the routine.
youtube
Santi had me adding "Wendy's hot chicken sandwich" to my list of foods to try. Probs gonna do that to kick off my unplanned vacation of unemployment.
youtube
Lee pretty much validated my frustration over Oogway and his insistence of going "I'm not gonna tell you the secret la dee da" because apparently the secret to becoming the greatest warrior of all was inside you all along. And the blind following of Shifu and the ongoing cycle of shoddy mentorship goes on and on 🤦🏻‍♀️
youtube
As for Game Theory and its new host Tom, I've actually been able to watch 2 of his theories, and basically he validated my instinctual doubts on the 'helpful' Ollie, as well as walked me through the KinitoPet ARG. Don't trust those animated clipart assistants, kids. Especially this one because I'm not kidding, this game fucking doxxes you.
youtube
youtube
And just an extra bit of chortles, if you know you know…
lore keeker 🤣
stories to om-nom-nom next
Quiet on Set Ep5: Breaking the Silence
All cards on the table, I'm dreading this more than looking forward to it because watching the first four episodes broke me, and I'm still hurting for the people whose childhoods and innocence were taken from them in the name of money and power. But the creation of the first few episodes empowered another former Nickelodeon talent to come forward, and we're about to hear a whole new account of the physical, psychological, mental, and emotional horrors that went on in those studios.
Double Cross by Campbell Thompson
Diving back into this story and hopefully get through halfway (or maybe even the whole book).
Tumblr media
That's all I got for this week. Let's see what this next week brings I guess 👀🫡

I would love some book recs! especially queer literary fiction!
Amazing!! I would love to share :) Also responding @ anon who asked for my trans book recs. This is for you too!
Since this is so long it'll probably get cut off on the dashboard, tl;dr there will be 1) list of trans-authored books and 2) a list where I talk about queer authors more generally (which includes some trans people that don't have trans characters in their books (yet)).
Trans Books by Trans Authors
Sketchtasy by Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore
Nevada by Imogen Binnie
The Pervert by Remy Boydell (graphic novel)
X by Davey Davis
Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin
Dead Collections by Isaac Fellman
Transmuted by Eve Harms
Future Feeling by Joss Lake
Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl by Andrea Lawlor
Everyone on the Moon is Essential Personnel by Julian K Jarboe
Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters
Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones by Torrey Peters
The Masker by Torrey Peters
Little Blue Encyclopedia (For Vivian) by Hazel Jane Plante
A Dream of a Woman by Casey Plett
A Safe Girl to Love by Casey Plett
Little Fish by Casey Plett
Confessions of the Fox by Jordy Rosenberg
Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars by Kai Cheng Thom
The Black Emerald by Jeanne Thornton
Summer Fun by Jeanne Thornton
Small Beauty by jia qing wilson-yang
The above are all trans-authored books that have trans characters in them. They are mostly lit fic with a few dips into genre here and there. I have bolded some of my faves!
For queer book recs/authors more generally,
Poppy Z. Brite, the pen name of Billy Martin, who is gay and trans. He has some great 90s horror novels, in particular Exquisite Corpse, a gay serial killer thriller/romance.
Dennis Cooper, writes gay "extremist" fiction, my fave of which is The Sluts, which takes place entirely on an early 2000s gay escort forum.
Shola Von Reinhold, another trans author, wrote one of my fave books I've read this year, LOTE, which is textually extremely transgender, but I don't think explicitly "labels" the mc as trans, so I'm putting it in this list. I usually use 'dark academia' as a pejorative but this would be dark academia in the best sense of the word. Involves lots of research into weird stuff, hyperfixations, and very little academia.
Brontez Purnell writes lit fic about black gay men, and has another one of my fave books, Since I Laid My Burden Down, as well as probably the best title in this list: Johnny Would You Love Me If My Dick Were Bigger. Those were both smallish press releases, I believe, but he's gotten more attention recently via his FSG short story anthology, 100 Boyfriends.
Sarah Schulman. If you are on Tumblr hopefully you already know about her. If you haven't read any of her fiction, I'd recommend Rat Bohemia, Empathy, and People In Trouble (this is the book Rent was based off of).
Brandon Taylor is very popular on twitter but I feel like I haven't seen much about him on tumblr. I really liked his debut novel Real Life, which follows a gay black postgrad student in a midwestern PhD program full of mostly white people. He also has an anthology, Filthy Animals, full of linked stories that take place in a similar setting.
James Baldwin. Another classic author. If you haven't read Giovanni's Room, go read it.
Carmen Maria Machado has a stunning memoir, In The Dream House, about lesbian domestic violence. She also writes speculative fiction stories, some can be found in the collection Her Body and Other Parties.
Eric LaRocca is gay horror's current darling due to his breakout hit Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke, about an online long-distance lesbian d/s relationship. He's been pumping out the books recently, all with great titles and covers.
Jean Kyoung Fraiser released a debut last year that was in my top faves as well, Pizza Girl, a coming-of-age story about a just-married and recently pregnant 18 year-old who works (you guessed it) as a pizza delivery girl, and develops a crush on an older woman, one of her customers.
Venita Blackburn wrote How to Wrestle a Girl, a black lesbian coming-of-age short story anthology. Also a recent release. I really loved the writing in this one.
...Okay, I think that's most of the big hitters for me at least! Going to give a few honorary mentions: Love in the Big City by Sang Young Park, translated from Korean, about the life of a young gay man in Seoul. Also anything by Joe Koch, who writes horror, nothing specifically gay/trans that I have read yet, but The Wingspan of Severed Hands is really beautiful stylistically.
And just one more, since it's October: The Route of Ice and Salt by Jose Luis Zarate, published in the 90s and translated from Spanish, a gay reimagining of Dracula's sea voyage to England.

🪲, 🍄,🔪? (for writing ask)
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
This is for another Gabriel-focused part in either TWEOS or as a reprieve in Valentine's Day 2004. (also Jean-Paul D'Orsay is a name I made up sorry guys. I may also change the champagne to rum&coke because Gabriel seems like that kind of guy, but also idk.)
"Adrien is in the wonderfully marketable position of what the philosopher Jean-Paul D'Orsay once called a 'social hermaphrodite'," Gabriel explained, nursing a second glass of champagne. "And it is all my wonderful years of hard work in which that little hermaphrodite of ours has flourished for us. We force him to be both, yet forbid him to be either—And as such, all the world may freely desire him."  "I'm sure there's a feminine bias," Nathalie rebutted, mouth taut in a nervous grin. "On the outside, perhaps." Now Gabriel was walking around his desk, picking up a small porcelain statuette of an angel. "It is the older men that desire him in secret, in far-off places. At one point I had hoped that my lovely son should be catered to them, but you know our dearest Emilie had... other plans."
GABRIEL'S SO GROSS I HATE HIM!!!!! (i love making Gabriel a remorseless capitalist. he's terrible.)
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
claudrien forever <3 take two head canons, one cute and one gross-ish:
Adrien shares everything he possibly can with Claudia. Passwords, Pokemon Diamond on his Nintendo DS, Snacks, Clothing, everything. What's his is hers and what's hers is only his if she allows him to use it cause he would never take it from her without permission.
Claudia has a sex playlist*, and unfortunately one of the songs on it is also her ringtone. She refuses to change it because that would cost extra money, so Adrien just has to deal with the whiplash of hearing the song he associates with getting absolutely plowed just start playing out of nowhere in public. it's one of those awkward "..I think I hauve covid" moments.
*we should all be grateful that the honors of this are claudia's because adrien would put a shostakovich song in his and see nothing wrong with it. god that's funny imagine fucking to symphony no. 7. you couldn't because no sane person would ever dare to
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
ALL. OF. THEM. I researched the French schooling system. I've looked up what kinds of candy they have in France. I have read The King in Yellow for this, revisited all of Edgar Allen Poe's works for this. I am a red-white-and-blue blooded American who had no fucking business learning about the French grading system, and yet I did.
actually no it was definitely how much aspirin it would take to get aspirin poisoning and whether the effects of which are fatal. luckily, it is not, you just might fuck up an organ if you don't get prompt medical attention

Rook and Bishop: Rip-offs of a rip-off?
In 2011, a Nintendo DS game called Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights was released.
Tumblr media
With its puzzles, animated cutscenes and gameplay it was clearly inspired by the popular Layton series.
The protagonist even bares a striking resemblance to Layton himself.
In the game, there are two minor characters named Paul and Jean. Besides their names, they aren't based on any current Layton characters.
They are the stereotypical dumb henchmen to the big boss. One is tall and thin, the other is short and fat. They wear matching uniforms and sunglasses. They show up occasionally to be a slight nuisance and provide comic relief. At the end of the game they leave the Boss to become better people.
Tumblr media
Fast forward two years later and the latest game in the Layton series comes out.
Lots of new characters are introduced but two are very close to my heart.
Rook and Bishop. The stereotypical dumb henchmen to the big boss. One is tall and thin, the other is short and fat. They wear matching uniforms and sunglasses. They show up occasionally to be a slight nuisance and provide comic relief. At the end of the game they leave the Boss to become better people
Tumblr media
It's probably a coincidence, but it's funny to imagine that Level 5 were so mad that someone ripped off their game that they decided to steal their characters to see how they like it.
And naturally, Level 5 improved the characters.
Paul and Jean were fired by their boss for their incompetence, which led to them helping the protagonists and becoming better people.
Rook and Bishop on the other hand made the decision to quit by themselves. They never acted out of spite or because they had nowhere else to go, they wanted to be good people. This makes them more compelling characters.
(Also Rook and Bishop don't flirt with the female characters and make them uncomfortable. They just have gay little conversations with one another.)
In conclusion: Don't rip off Level 5. They will take your characters and make them better.

Downtown Gotham: Part One
Tumblr media
Elliot Center: Construction on the Elliot Center was officially completed in 1937. Gotham City was still recovering from the Great Depression back then, and the opening of a new media oriented business resulted in thousands of new jobs. As a media conglomerate, the Elliots have an almost infinite amount of information not only on Gotham City, but its citizens as well. This makes them potentially quite dangerous. With the rapid rise of new technologies and digital footprint tracking, I've had to keep a careful eye on the information they gather so that our identities are not compromised. Thankfully, a discreet visit to their servers is usually all that's necessary to adjust any potentially dangerous information they may acquire.
Tumblr media
First Church of Gotham City: In 1612, not long after the first Dutch settlers arrived in Gotham City, a church was built on one of Gotham's main islands. It was the first permanent Christian establishment of the new colony. The First Church of Gotham had to be almost completely rebuilt after a harsh storm toppled most of the structure more than a century ago, giving it its current architectural look. Its towers offer a good view of the New Trigate Bridge and the shores of the Financial District. It was named a historical landmark in 1962 after the Elliots showed interest in buying and demolishing the church to expand the Gotham Gazette's office space. This is also where I met Azrael for the first time. He had been sent by his order to keep an eye on Gotham City. He left after a while, though I suspect his order is far from finished with this city. If that's the case, I'm afraid I'll be forced to confront Jean-Paul sooner or later.
Tumblr media
Gotham City Ferry Company: The Gotham City Ferry Company has existed in one form or another since the early 1800s. Bartholomew Wycliffe first established it as a private company to run ferries to the smaller towns across the harbor. It was converted as a public utility in the early 1900s as the popularity of cars grew. The workers went on strike a few years ago after a series of incidents brought to light how corrupt management cut corners on safety, leading to substandard equipment and situations that endangered their employees. The union attempted to negotiate the purchase of new boats, as most of the ones in use at the Ferry were proven to be deathtraps, but the Transportation Commissioner refused anything but short-term fixes due to budgetary constraints. A sizeable donation from the Wayne Foundation helped in the acquisition of second hand yet safe barges. Now the ferry can make almost twice as many journeys in a week, while maintaining proper safety standards.

Gotham Gazette: The Gotham Gazette was created by Edward Elliot almost two centuries ago to bring worldwide news to the citizens of Gotham City. In 1894, the Gazette's offices and presses were moved into a mid-rise office building before it was renovated into a new tower in 1935. Ever since I came back to Gotham City after completing my training, stories about me have appeared on the front page of the Gazette almost weekly. Alfred does his best to turn down any interview requests, but sometimes they are inevitable, especially when they come from Vicki Vale. She doesn't give up easily. But the Gazette is also an important tool in keeping my secret identity hidden. Having articles written about Bruce Wayne's drunken adventures helps keep any suspicion away.

Gotham City General Hospital: Gotham City General was first opened in the 1870s under the name St. Luke's Hospital. It was later expanded and then sold to the Gotham General Hospital Foundation. In the 1970s, my parents led several fundraising efforts to further develop and upgrade the hospital. When I returned to Gotham City, I decided to continue their efforts and financed the construction of a new modern pavilion, which has been named the Wayne Family Memorial Wing. After Leslie Thompkins retired, there was a brief moment when we needed a new doctor on hand in case of a medical emergency. One of my contacts pointed me in the direction of a nurse who works in the Trauma Unit. I only needed his help a handful of times, but he was reliable.

Note
Jean-Paul Valley is Azrael! I don’t know if he’s in the comics currently, the last run of Azrael was I think a reboot using a different guy entirely whose name I forget.
Apparently he's made an appearance in Batman: Urban Legends (2021) but I hadn't read that one. Im gonna add that to my reading list!
Ive been a bit behind, the last Batman comic I read was a rather old one. The Dark Knight Returns (1986) and it is a wonderful look into comic history and the turn in Batman tonally. Also, I own the Arkham games on Steam but Ive been putting off playing them for no real reason. I should do that as well.
Thank you for letting me know! :D
