Canon Destiel Timeline Masterpost

I wrote this all in a fugue state while listening to Green Grow the Lilacs on repeat so forgive any mistakes. @gay-fae ask and ye shall receive

So much has happened in the long and storied history of his fandom so I've decided to try to document it. I've started by looking up every time that canon destiel, destiel event, misha collins, jackles, or some other search terms have spiked on Google and cross referenced them with tumblr or twitter posts from that day. I know a lot of this is Misha stuff, but he does tend to be the one to say things

November 5th, 2020: Season 15, Episode 18 "Despair" airs and Castiel declares his love to Dean. The presidential election, Georgia turning blue, the presumed retirement of Vladamir Putin, Dabi from My Hero Academia, Ouran Host Club season 2, Sherlock season 5, the president of Bolivia being attacked with dynamite, ongoing BLM protests, a twitter artist making racist art of Ted Bundy, Hetalia returning, a dead man being elected Representative for North Dakota, V for Vendetta, scientists discovering a "hell" planet that rains rocks and has lava oceans, and half of Europe being in lockdown all became tumblr news around the same time. Some of these are true, some not.

November 8th, 2020: Misha Collins, in a panel with Richard Speight, states that the confession scene was a "declaration of homosexual love", and that when Castiel goes to the Empty, it is an example of the "Kill your gays" trope.

November 19th, 2020: The finale airs and it is not well loved to say the least. The episode is short, Dean dies by falling on a nail to death fighting vampire clowns, and there are several characters left with dangling unresolved plot threads and arcs, including Castiel. The car is in heaven though. There is very little heard from the cast and crew, if anything.

November 22nd, 2020: Misha Collins, in a livestream, tells a fan that Castiel and Jack are remaking heaven together, Cas has his wings back, and they are rainbow-colored. He had, however, mentioned the rainbow wings before.

November 24th, 2020: The Spanish dub of the confession is released and a "rogue" translator has written "Y yo a ti" or "I love you too" as Dean's response. Destiel goes canon in Spanish. Tumblr stops working as a result.

November 25th, 2020: tumblr user @thebloggerbloggerfun claims Jensen Ackles said "I had a member of the film crew record the confession scene on my phone for me" #unsourced #releasethetapes

November 26th, 2020: Misha doesn't appreciate the rogue translator, but walks that opinion back later the same day

November 27th, 2020: A "leaked" Italian dub of the confession scene shows a mutual confession.

November 28th, 2020: President Obama follows a destiel account on Twitter

November 30th, 2020: The supposed "Italian dub" is revealed as a fake created by user @iotiamo using sound clips from other parts of the Italian dub on show.

December 1st, 2020: Twitter user @mothdean says "misha I know you have a stan acc and spy on us so can we have a hazel update please"

December 3rd, 2020: Misha tweets about Hazel snoring and this is taken as possible confirmation of Misha's secret stan account

December 11th, 2020: A script from Cas's perspective leaks. It says "We see Cass's POV of Dean again - his face drawn, drained of hope. But still beautiful. Still Dean Winchester."

December 16th, 2020: Newsweek runs an article about an article that Misha wrote about the Lewinsky affair while interning in the Clinton White House in which Misha comes off as rather thirsty for Bill

December 20th, 2020: All Supernatural related materials disappear off the CW's website due to a copyright dispute with Warner Brothers

December 31st, 2020: Mishapocalypse redux

February 9th, 2021: Spn cast members Chad Lindberg and Samantha Ferris tweet about a party at the Roadhouse and it grows to become a full Destiel wedding

February 16th, 2021: @steveyockey made a fairly benign post about Jensen Ackles. The notes went wild in a variety of ways and started a rumor that Spn writer Steve Yockey was dead

February 20th, 2021: Steve Yockey is not dead and he should say it

March 3rd, 2021: The German dub drops and it is also romantic in tone

March 6-8th, 2021: A virtual con happens where Jensen discusses Chaos Machine and Jared says he wants to be in their next project. They also show that WAP video. Jensen is giving full mountain man preparing to play Soldier Boy.

March 10th, 2021: The French dub is released. Cas says, "I love you, Dean" and Dean now responds, "Don't do this to me, Castiel"

March 13th, 2021: The company Amazon tweets about Castiel and Misha Collins asks if they ship Deancas or Wincest. Subsequently apologizes.

March 16th, 2021: Misha says he can't speak as Castiel because Warner Brothers" specifically forbade it. #cwsniperconfirmed

March 17th, 2021: Sam and Eileen are getting married! I have no idea how this came about but I'm happy for them

March 23rd, 2021: Chad Lindberg and Samantha Ferris claim on Twitter that the Roadhouse party was about Valentine's day and not a wedding. Ferris specifically said that she worked on the show and that people tried to make Dean/Cas into "something that it wasn't", She also stated she doesn't "know what queerbaiting is" and that it was due to an "agenda". This led to #deanisbi trending on Twitter and Tumblr.

March 31st, 2021: Some possibly fake leaked scripts come up for sale on eBay. Also, Jensen is Batman.

April 1st, 2021: Mishapocalypse redux

April 6th, 2021: Leaked scripts from the 2 final episodes pop up and have several mentions of Cas in them that were omitted. Dean even thinks about Cas's confession when confronting Chuck.

April 18th, 2021: Scripts from seasons 12 and 13 leak. These include scenes from after Cas's death

May 17th, 2021: Jensen's band Radio Company releases an album including the song Watching Over Me

June ~5th, 2021: Misha says at a convention that Watching Over Me is about Castiel. Jensen neither confirms nor denies this when asked about it

June 11th, 2021: It is announced that Misha is publishing a book of poetry

June 18th, 2021: The Russian dub airs and Dean's line is changed to "Don't you dare, Cas"

June 24-28th, 2021: Jensen and Daneel Ackles reveal that they are making a Supernatural prequel series following John and Mary Winchester (a story that NOBODY was asking for). Jensen will reprise his role as Dean and will narrate. Misha hints that he would like to be involved, as do Ruthie Connell, Samantha Ferris, Matt Cohen, and Julie McNiven (the perils of having a cast of mostly immortal characters). But Jared Padalecki first says that he is happy for the Ackles's, he later said he was "gutted", then responded to Robbie Thompson's tweet calling him a "coward" and saying "what an awful thing you've done". The next day, Jensen and Jared both do damage control and say they'll always be brothers

July 17th, 2021: People are asking if Destiel will be canon in Space Jam, Misha's poetry book's cover is revealed to lukewarm reviews and people are talking about a particular poem about piss, and Perfume Genius releases an article that is a self-insert vore fanfiction about having sex with Jensen Ackles

August 2nd, 2021: Perfume Genius is at it again with "Last Friday, I had my eyes removed by Jared Padalecki". No, I do not know why she is doing this.

August 9th, 2021: Destiel fics hit 100k on Ao3. Misha tweets his support and people remember that he sometimes reads fanfiction and theorize he has an A03 account

September 1st, 2021: Misha makes his first Tiktok. There is a short intro before he calls cut, walks behind a screen, and strips his clothes off

September 3rd, 2021: Jake Abel uses Michael and Adam to help sell his hot sauce brand

September 4th, 2021: Misha confirms that the love between Castiel and Dean was "reciprocated"

September 9th, 2021: A clip of the real Italian dub of the confession scene goes viral as it is revealed that, unlike the Spanish dub, they change the line to "ti voglio bene" or essentially "I love you like family". Misha responds with a video saying "Ciao Italia, ti amo" with the subtitle "Love is love in any language"

September 21st, 2021: Misha drops the fact that one of his poems is from Castiel's perspective.

September 30th, 2021: Jensen will be appearing at a con on the same day as Misha and not with Jared for "professional reasons"

October 4th, 2021: Misha responds to a fan's tweet by saying that Jensen has "crazy eyes and a knife in his pocket"

October 10th, 2021: Daneel posts a picture of Jensen intently reading Misha's poetry book in front of a roaring fire on Instagram. Misha responds that he misses them even more

October 12th, 2021: Jensen is cast in Rust, a (rather ill-fated) western and Misha says "Yippie-ki-yay" and calls him a stud in the comments

October 16th, 2021: Denvercon. Jensen and Jared reunite for the first time since THE INCIDENT

April 24th, 2022: Misha Collins says in terms of being an extrovert, an introvert, or a bisexual, he joked "I'm all three". This led to the internet celebrating Misha's newly revealed bisexuality.

April 25th, 2022: Misha Collins comes out as straight. Oops!

June 19th, 2022: According to Misha, Dean's heaven was supposed to be at the Roadhouse with all his friends and Cas was going to be there with him

November 7th, 2022: Misha calls Elon Musk a snowflake

November 12th, 2022: Tumblr starts planning another Mishapocalypse

January 24th, 2023: Jensen and the cast of the Winchesters throw Dean Winchester a birthday party, including wearing silly little hats

February 26th, 2023: At JIBcon 11, Jensen sings an improvised song about an angel while Misha sits cross-legged on the floor looking up at him

April 1st, 2023: 10 year anniversary of the Mishapocalypse

April 16th, 2023: A year after his bisexual whoopsie daisy, Misha says that Warner Brothers asked him to "let it go" and keep pretending to be bisexual.

August 23, 2023: Rogue Spanish translator is revealed to not have gone rogue at all but instead to have followed the script he was given, confirming the existence of a mutual love confession that was cut at some point.

If you can remember any events and dates that I haven't found, please let me know and I'll add them! I haven't really rounded out 2022 and 2023 yet.

WIPs and abandoned projects (March 2021-December 2023)

Info on each one (as well as what the songs/audio sources are):

The song playing in the intro and outro is Dianthus Nardiformis from the Dreaming Mary OST.

19: March 2021. Okay so this one's not actually a work in progress. I made this on my 19th birthday, the joke being that the singer just says 19 then it ends. I think I thought it was kinda dumb so I didn't end up actually posting it. Also features a sona I had before Cress that I never really got attached to, so she was barely used. Song is 19 by Old 97's.

Lonely Holiday: July 2021. This has the honor of being the first OMORI mv I ever attempted. I started this on a whim while bored out of my mind dogsitting for a couple weeks, and I kinda just lost interest in it. Dunno if I'll go back to it. Song is Lonely Holiday by Old 97's.

Numb: July 2021. Another one I started while dogsitting, and another one I kinda just lost interest in, but I absolutely want to revisit it someday because it's an idea I've had for a while and still really want to do. Song is Numb (Linkin Park Cover) by Robyn Adele Anderson.

The Artist: December 2021. I stopped working on this one because doing everything manually frame-by-frame got really annoying and I started to hate working on it. I dunno why I did the zoom in manually but it looks bad, lol. The entire MV would have been just this verse of the song because I thought it really fit Basil and Omori. Tbh I still like how this looks and I may come back to it. Song is The Artist by The Hush Sound.

Higher: February 2022. It's the animation meme. I actually posted this wip a while ago but I'm still gonna include it here for completion's sake. This was really just storyboard practice, so I don't have much of an interest in completing it beyond this. It's Omori Strikers AU (my omori x persona 5 crossover au) and it's basically about Omori's identity issues due to being Sunny's Shadow. The quality's really bad on this one, for some reason iMovie refused to export it in a higher quality than this, I don't know why. Song is High by SIVIK.

Little Sunbeam: February 2022. This MV would have centered on the omari au, and beyond this it'd switch to Mari's pov and take on different palettes. Doing that text effect made working on this very annoying and would make my art program lag a lot so I lost interest in working on it. I might revisit this one, though I'd have to rework the original idea I had now that my perception on the common omari au has changed lol. Song is Little Sunbeam by Eleisha Eagle.

Nightmarish: April 2022. This MV would technically be a remake of one I made in 2020. Same song, same color palette, but with a completely new media. Part of wanting to work on this is wanting to spread Dreaming Mary propaganda cause I love it and I think people who like OMORI will like Dreaming Mary as well. Also I love this song. I definitely wanna go back to this one at some point. Song is Nightmarish from the Dreaming Mary OST.

Keep You Safe: July 2022. Like Higher I also posted this wip before but will still include it here. I absolutely want to go back to this one someday because I still really like the idea I have for it. Fun fact, for those who remember this piece, that was based on this MV, but it's not like you can tell based on what's shown here. Song is Keep You Safe by The Crane Wives.

Four Walls: August 2022. Amnesiac Omori MV, what would have been his youtube introduction if I hadn't stopped working on it and then made When Am I Gonna Lose You. I think I kinda just lost interest in this one, though I wanna go back to it at some point I think. Song is Four Walls (The Ballad of Perry Smith) by Bastille.

Someone Gets Hurt: January 2023. Amnesiac omori again babey!! Animatic that would have taken place after he regains his memories, where he's basically really angry and lashes out at Sunny and Stranger. Might revisit this one. Song is Someone Gets Hurt (Reprise) from the Mean Girls musical.

Uhh some shitpost: February 2023. Silly thing, it's a shame I stopped working on it before it actually got to the main funny part. I dunno if I'll go back to this one. Audio from @/tylergaca on twitter.

Jealous: March 2023. Animation meme. It would've been about Sunny and Mari in my pmd au and the leadup to the incident. It took me a while to get that second shot right and I still really don't like it. Do wanna revisit this one cause I love angst surrounding these two so much I love them in pmd au GRAHHH. Song is Jealous by Eyedress (slowed down).

Stranger lipsync test: May 2023. This was way too difficult as a lipsync test so I gave up on it, though I still like the animation for it. Also this is a pretty good contender for headcanon voice for Stranger I'll be real. Audio is from Persona 5 Royal.

Propaganda: August 2023. Amnesiac omori au storyboard that I do actually wanna make into a completed thing. This is very spoilery so my master plan is to not explain what's happening. Muah hah hah >:3c. Also once again iMovie exported this in a really bad quality for some reason. Song is Propaganda by Kill J.

Alter's Rant: December 2023. One more amnesiac omori animatic for the road. Once again it's really spoilery but it's basically Alter and Omori's final confrontation. I have more done than what's shown here but I wanna keep it a surprise for when I finish it, which should hopefully be soon >:3c. Also this one also got hit by iMovie's low quality curse. Song is Eva's Rant from Bring It On The Musical.

Hi Eleni, I love your blog,you built it with love, respect and dedication. Just an clarification and 2 questions for you. First, for what I know Christian Marquand and Dominique Sanda never married. In fact, I haven't seen any pictures of them together. I think they had a brief relationship, if not a liasion or encounter (one night stand). I haven't seen photos of him with his son. Of course I can be wrong. Questions: of what did Frédéric Pardo die? Where I can find more pics &info of Theresa?

Hi Anon, thank you for your patience! I'll ask your questions in this post, and I'll try to go by person you asked, I hope it's well explained, and don't worry, I'm not English neither :)

Frédéric Pardo was born the 7th February 1944 and passed away the 19th December 2005, he died of lung cancer. According to this site (GENEANET) he married Dominique Sanda the 20th September 1976 in Saint-Ouen-Marchefroy, 28260, Eure-et-Loir, Centre-Val de Loire, France. They had no children and they divorced some years later as Frédéric met Thérèsa and married her in the late 70s and they didn't have any child neither, so Frédéric Pardo had no children but he had some nephews as he had two brothers.

And if you look at Dominique Sanda's profile in this very same site, you'll see that she and Christian Marquand, as you said, never got married although they had a kid. According to this site, they had a liaison in 1971 and Yann was born in 20th April 1972. Yann is an actor and, assistant director.

Taylor/ Matty Timeline

My Personal little timeline I kept is below.

Obviously no harm or shade is meant to anyone in this timeline. I always thought they would be an epic love story, so it's something I made a little hobby out of watching. It has been a fascinating puzzle and given the fact they both love some easter eggs, it's been a fun puzzle.

If anything is incorrect, let me know. It been a work in progress for a long time, so some may be off a touch.

This ends around October of last year. When we could comfortably assume things were DONE DONE.

I may add additional items for items that happened during SATVB that may have been linked to Taylor.

I may also try to add a post on some song break downs and cross overs.

Chad Basaites, Montana inmate 3029058, born 1992, incarceration intake July 2020 at age 28, sentenced to 8 to 25 years, anticipated release date not published

In July 2020, a man charged with striking and killing a woman on her bicycle as he was driving while intoxicated will spend ata least the next 8 years in prison.

Chad Basaites was sentenced this week to eight years in prison (25 years, but with 17 years suspended).

Basaites is the Bozeman man who hit and killed 25-year-old Alexa Dzintars while she was biking home along 19th Ave from work in December 2019.

According to the court clerk, Basaites was also ordered to perform 250 hours of community service and go through an alcohol treatment program.

According to court documents, Basaites called 911 around 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, to report he had struck a bicyclist on N. 19th Avenue at Rawhide Ridge Road.

A Bozeman police officer less than a block away arrived on scene and began to perform CPR on the woman, identified by Bozeman Police as Alexa Jane Dzintars. Emergency responders pronounced Dzintars dead at approximately 11:50 p.m.

A second officer reportedly interviewed Basaites at the scene, who said he had consumed “three or four” drinks at a holiday Christmas party that evening. The officer noted that Basaites had red eyes and was slurring his words and swaying.

Court documents say Basaites’ performance on field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence. He allegedly refused a breath test and was then arrested and taken to the Gallatin County Detention Center. Police were granted a search warrant to draw a blood sample from Basaites.

Basaites told officers he was headed north on 19th in the right-hand lane when Dzintars suddenly appeared in front of him, in his lane, with no lights. Police believe Dzintars was wearing a headlamp and had reflectors on her bike.

The reporting detective said in court documents evidence at the scene indicated Dzintars was riding on the shoulder, to the right of the fog line. Evidence from Basaites’ vehicle reportedly indicated that he was driving on the shoulder, outside the normal lane of travel at the point of impact.

i started this blog in december 2019. it was the first tumblr i was ever truly active on, and i had no idea how tags or anything worked. i was freshly 16 and at the age where i was just starting to discover who and what i was, and a lot of it came through in the poetry i posted here. i had very rigid ideas of what literature and poetry was, as i had stopped doing it for a very long time. i wanted attention. i was eager, although i didnt know it then. i was hopeful.

covid hit three months later, in march 2020. i was in the year group whose gcses were cancelled. i posted one poem right as covid hit, in march, and then my last poem i posted in september of 2020 around when i started sixth form, after the longest summer i will ever have in my life. it was also the best summer i have had in my life. i spent 5 months calling with my best friends so constantly to the point i woke up at 6pm and went to bed at 9am just to talk to them. i realised my identity and tried to come out to a mother i would quickly find out was transphobic. i made a lot of friends. i started to gain some real footing on who i was.

i blinked and i am in march 2024. it is four years and a few days since i posted my second to last poem, which is a number that feels truly shocking to type out as it feels like it has been a year at most. in 2019 i turned 16, but in 2024 i will turn 21. this fact upsets me as the absolute formative amount of ageing i went through between the ages of 13-16 feels like it was my entire life and that there isnt room for anything else worthwhile to occur. on my 18th birthday, i held the frog teddy i bought for myself and listened to lord huron at full volume to block out the fear blurring its way into the edges like a migraine. on my 19th birthday, i was alone and terrified in my university dorm. i can't even remember my 20th birthday because of how insignificant it was. ageing, past the age of 18, went from being something exciting to something terrifying in a way i told myself it never would. and yet i am still here, and yet i still age. in a few months, it will be my 21st, and it will likely be at home, and it will likely be alone.

in the space between 16 and now, a lot happened. there were some pretty good things. they sit tiny next to the fact i lost my best friend in 2021 because they turned out to be quite literally the worst person i have ever known on this planet. i will never forgive them for what they did. realistically, every problem i hold against them is so small in the scale of the universe that maybe it isn’t worth holding onto at all, but i have not learned that lesson. i am aggressively refusing that lesson, in fact. at least for right now.

my mental health also took the biggest nosedive it has ever taken. sixth form shut down all sense of self discovery i had once i begin to nosedive in my academics and lose all of my friends. i still havent regained my footing. it has been 2 years since i left sixth form, and i still havent regained my footing.

but it is nice to look back over this blog and not regret a single thing i wrote.

all of this is to say i am going to start posting here again. and, in the most cliche way possible, i am going to do it for me this time. and i am going to post whatever i want without caring whether or not it is refined enough, because life is scarily fleeting and i can do whatever i want.

i was first allergictodrowning, and when i thought that was stupid i became autumndrowns, and now i will be something else that i havent decided yet but it will definitely be equally as stupid. :)

1990 - Arraigned marriage between Hiroshi Chisaka and Ayumi Suzuka

2018 (age 26) - The New World Reformation Group makes itself formally known to larger society after a number of Blessed-Blessed skirmishes. Their intent is to make society more suited to the Blessed, seeing normal humans as obsolete despite their larger numbers

2020 (age 28) - On March 1st Ito Chisaka is confronted by Yoino Hwa and begins pursuit against advisement from leaders of the Blessed community

2021 (age 29) - On December 20th Ito Chisaka kills Yoino Hwa and then goes on to slaughter all members of New World Reformation Group. This is followed by attacks on major clans as well as senior leaders of Blessed society. He is sentenced to execution on sight.

2022 (age 29) - On January 7th, Ito Chisaka is restrained and executed at 4a.m.

THE LAST OF US PART II REMASTERED - 19.01.24!

After deleted posts on LinkedIn and rumours of a remaster doing many a round on social media, Naughty Dog and PlayStation have officially confirmed that The Last of Us Part II Remastered not only exists, but is launching on 19th January 2024!

When we've covered the rumour in the past, the response has been mixed. Especially when Part II only released on PS4 in June 2020 - certainly not in the territory of a long lost gem that needs rekindling...

Background and History

- The Maya, who lived in what is now southern Mexico & Central America, had a great civilization which was at its height about 2,000 years ago.

- Tobacco smoke initially was used by Maya in religious ceremonies, rituals, and in medicinal practices.

- They passed on the custom of smoking to almost every other Indigenous group in North & South America.

- Tobacco was first encountered by Europeans when Columbus reached the West Indies. The Europeans quickly took up smoking tobacco.

- In the 1600s, England commercialized tobacco growing in the Virginia colony.

- Cigarettes began to be used in Europe during the mid-19th century. Their popularity in the USA exploded over the next 30 years, thanks to...

- During World War II (1939-1945), cigarette sales were at an all-time high. Cigarettes were included in a soldier’s C-Rations (like food). - In 1971, television ads for cigarettes were finally taken off the air in the USA. The American Medical Association (AMA) declared tobacco a health hazard, as it causes cancer and other respiratory/circulatory diseases.

- Nicotine was first isolated in 1828. It constitutes about 5% of the weight of dry tobacco leaves.

- Nicotine is an oily water-soluble substance, a colorless liquid which changes color to yellow and brown on contact with air or slowly with light.

- It’s odorless and tasteless. And that’s why it can be used for vaping in combination with different flavors.

- It is a potent neurotoxin with particular specificity to insects; therefore, nicotine was widely used as an insecticide.

- December 2019: The federal government raised the legal minimum age of sale of tobacco products from 18-21 years.

- December 17, 2019: The FDA authorized the marketing of two new tobacco products manufactured by 22nd Century Group Inc. - Moonlight and Moonlight Menthol, which are cigarettes that contain a reduced amount of nicotine compared to typical commercial cigarettes.

On average, conventional cigarettes contain 10-14 mg of nicotine each. Moonlight cigarettes contain 0.2 to 0.7 mg each.

They are less addictive, but still harmful.

- January 2020: The FDA issued a policy on the sale of flavored vaping cartridges. Only tobacco and menthol flavors are allowed.

Tobacco Preparation for Recreational Use

- The leaves of the plant contain 80-85% water.

- Curing is the process that brings out the aroma and flavor of each variety of tobacco. After the curing cycle, there is essentially no water left.

- The actual nicotine content of the cured tobacco leaf may reach as high as 6.17%.

- Tobacco for chewing (smokeless tobacco): One to three high-quality leaves are braided and twisted into a rope while green, and then are cured in the same manner as other tobacco.

- Tobacco snuff is made by grinding dried tobacco leaves to a very fine powder.

- Tobacco for burning is made into cigars, cigarettes, or pipe tobacco.

- Snus was invented in early 18th-century Sweden. It is placed between the upper lip and gum for extended periods. Snus is not fermented.

Route of Administration: Smoking

- A typical cigarette contains 10-14 mg of nicotine, though no more than 1-3 mg actually reaches the smoker’s bloodstream.

- The amount available depends on the smoker’s behavior (e.g. number of puffs, length of each puff)

- Absorption can also depend on the chemical form of nicotine; freebase is absorbed better than salt.

- Starting in the 1960s, Marlboro started to add ammonia to their cigarettes for a better absorption of nicotine.

- When smoking nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide are released. Tar contributes to the taste and smell of cigarette smoke.

Nicotine: Absorption

- Nicotine readily passes through the absorbent surface of the lungs to the bloodstream.

- The nicotine first reaches the brain in about 7 seconds, which is approximately twice as fast as when the drug is administered intravenously.

- It is absorbed to a lesser extent through the mouth and nostrils when tobacco is chewed or snorted as snuff.

Metabolism/Excretion

- Most nicotine is metabolized to cotinine by the liver enzyme cytochrome P450 2A6 (CYP2A6).

- Cotinine and other nicotine metabolites are excreted mainly in the urine.

Behavioral Effects

- Nicotine is both a stimulant and a relaxant.

- To separate the effects of nicotine from the behavioral aspects of smoking, subjects are given pure nicotine through injection, skin patches, or gum.

- In smokers, nicotine produces a calm or relaxed state.

- In nonsmokers, it tends to elicit heightened tension or arousal, along with lightheadedness, dizziness, and even nausea.

Nesbitt’s Paradox: Most studies indicate that nicotine appears to cause arousal. However, most smokers report that they smoke because it relaxes them. Nicotine changes from a stimulant to sedative when the dose is increased.

Cognition

- Because acetylcholine plays an important role in aspects of cognitive functioning, several studies have examined effects of nicotine on cognitive function.

- In animals and humans alike, nicotine administration temporarily improves visual attention and working memory.

- Abstinent smokers given nicotine show enhanced performance on many kinds of cognitive and motor tasks.

- Some benefits for Alzheimer’s disease (nicotinic receptor agonists)

- High smoking rates in people with schizophrenia (which includes significant cognitive dysfunction) may be an attempt to self-medicate.

Mechanisms of Action

- Nicotine works by activating nicotinic cholinergic receptors (nAChRs), one of the two subtypes of acetylcholine (ACh) receptor.

- They are ionotropic receptors made up of five sub-units.

- High-affinity nAChRs are found in many parts of the brain, neuromuscular junctions and in the ganglia of the autonomic nervous system.

Physiological Effects

- Nicotinic receptors are abundant in the autonomic nervous system.

- Smoking can activate both sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, causing a wide range of physiological effects, including tachycardia and elevated blood pressure.

- This can increase risk of cardiovascular disease.

- Nicotine also reduces appetite and increases metabolic rate, resulting in weight loss.

- Smokers generally weigh less than nonsmokers. Quitting usually results in weight gain.

Nicotine Poisoning

- Nicotine is a toxic substance that can be fatal at high doses. LD50 is about 40-60 mg. Such a high dose cannot be reached via inhalation.

- A large number of poisonings occur among children who eat tobacco.

- Contact with tobacco in the field (”green tobacco sickness”) or insecticides that contain nicotine.

- There are two protections against death: quick first-pass metabolism through the liver, and activation of the vomiting center (area postrema).

Metabolism, Withdrawal, and Tolerance

- Elimination half-life of nicotine is around 2 hours. To avoid withdrawal symptoms, smoking must occur repeatedly throughout the day.

- Frequent smoking leads to ever-increasing peak levels of nicotine during the day, since each dose builds on the residual nicotine from the previous one, but tolerance also builds.

Acute Tolerance

- Cigarette smokers undergo acute tolerance during the day.

- Acute tolerance dissipates during the night and mild withdrawal occurs.

- The 1st cigarette in the morning is the strongest.

Chronic Tolerance

- Long term exposure to nicotine causes chronic tolerance, superimposed on the acute daily tolerance.

- In one study, a high dose of nicotine elicited an aversive reaction with some symptoms of mild nicotine toxicity in non-smokers but no such reaction in smokers.

Reinforcement

- Nicotine on its own is reinforcing; humans and other animals will self-administer nicotine.

- The mesolimbic DA pathway from the VTA to the nucleus accumbens (NAcc) plays a key role in reinforcement. Lesioning the dopaminergic innervation of NAcc significantly attenuates nicotine self-administration.

- High-affinity nicotinic receptors in the VTA stimulate firing of DA neurons, increasing DA release in the NAcc.

- Research in this area usually involves injected nicotine, but one study showed the same result when rats were inhaling cigarette smoke.

Abstinence

- Studies show that abstinence syndrome is relatively short, with most symptoms gone by four weeks, and nicotine gum prevents most symptoms.

- Withdrawal symptoms:

decreased heart rate

increased appetite

inability to concentrate

aggression

depression

anxiety

sleep disruption

craving for cigarettes

Nicotine Use Disorder

Cigarette Smoking

- 70 to 75% of current smokers in the United States would like to quit smoking, and about 40 to 45% of daily smokers actually attempt to quit each year. However, addiction to nicotine is so powerful that the success rate is very low.

- Two aspects of nicotine addiction:

Biomedical (abstinence syndrome, reinforcing properties of nicotine)

Sociocultural (smoking is a social activity and many “aspirational” people of the past 200 years were smokers)

- The amount of cigarette smoking in the US has varied over the past 100 years.

- Smoking increased dramatically from 1900 up to the 1960s. Declines since then are related to the Surgeon General’s reports on health consequences, antismoking ads, high cigarette taxes, and societal disapproval of smoking.

Health Effects

- The damaging health effects of smoking stem from carbon monoxide that results when tobacco, tar, and nicotine are burned.

- Nicotine enters the smoker’s lungs on tiny particles of tar, which is a complex mixture of chemicals (some of which are known to be carcinogenic).

- Other chemicals that can be found in cigarette smoke include:

ammonia (found in toilet cleaning chemicals)

acetone (found in nail varnish remover)

cadmium (highly poisonous metal used in batteries)

napthtalene (used in moth balls)

cyanide (very deadly poison)

formaldehyde (used in preservation of bodies)

- Smoking is a major cause of illness and premature death.

- Cigarette smoking is the major preventable cause of death among Americans. It increases the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, etc.

Warning Labels

- Behavioral interventions include anti-smoking appeals in the media, Surgeon General’s health warning on packs of cigarettes, and high taxes on tobacco products.

Graphic Warning Labels

- In June 2011, the FDA ordered the use of nine rotating warnings to cover 50% of cigarette packs with such images as diseased lungs and a cadaver lying on an autopsy table.

- Five tobacco companies, including R.J. Reynolds Tobacco and Lorillard Tobacco (2nd and 3rd biggest cigarette manufacturers), filed a lawsuit claiming the mandate violated their First Amendment rights.

- US District Judge Richard J. Leon ruled in favor of the cigarette companies in three lawsuits against the FDA.

Treatment

- Individual or group counseling programs can be successful, particularly if they provide social support and/or training to learn coping skills.

- The most common pharmacological intervention is nicotine replacement.

- Nicotine relieves withdrawal symptoms and is delivered in safer ways than smoking: nicotine gum and lozenges, transdermal patch, nasal spray and inhalers.

- The nasal spray and inhaler require a doctor’s prescription, whereas nicotine gum, patches, and lozenges can be obtained over-the-counter (OTC).

Bupropion (Zyban)

Initially developed as an anti-depressant

The anti-smoking properties of bupropion are thought to be related to its actions as a dopamine uptake inhibitor and a weak antagonist at nicotinic cholinergic receptors.

Attenuates rewarding properties of nicotine and reduces nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Varenicline (Chantix)

Is a partial agonist at high-affinity nicotinic receptors expressed in the VTA and other brain areas.

Reduces nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

E-Cigarettes/Vaping

- invented in 2003 by Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik

- Vaping = using e-cigarettes

- E-cigarettes don’t contain tobacco. They may or may not contain nicotine.

- They are likely safer than tobacco cigarettes but it’s too early to determine the long-term health effects.

- Anecdotally, they’re reported to help people quit smoking.

2019: there was a vaping-related lung injury epidemic

January 2020: FDA banned mint-flavored and fruit-flavored vaping products, but menthol and tobacco flavors are exempt.

Ozzy Osbourne’s former drummer, Lee Kerslake, died aged 73 from prostate cancer. He is best known for his performances on the Black Sabbath frontman’s critically-acclaimed debut album, Blizzard of Ozz, and was also the drummer in Uriah Heep appearing on their 1972 album Demons and Wizards and nine studio records, as well as a live album, with the band before departing in 1978.

2014 - Cher

A dance choreographer sued Cher for racial discrimination claiming the singer stopped him hiring any more black dancers. Kevin Wilson alleged Cher told him the tour had "too much colour" already. Mr Wilson and two other dancers had also alleged they were fired for reporting a sexual assault on a female fan by another dancer. 1973 - Gram Parsons

Country rock singer, songwriter 26-year-old Gram Parsons formerly of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, died under mysterious conditions in Joshua Tree, California. His death was attributed to heart failure but later was officially announced as a drug overdose. His coffin was stolen by two of his associates, manager Phil Kaufman and Michael Martin, a former roadie for The Byrds, and was taken to Cap Rock in the California desert, where it was set alight, in accordance to Parson's wishes. The two were later arrested by police.

1969 - Creedance Clearwater Revival

Creedence Clearwater Revival scored their only UK No.1 single with 'Bad Moon Rising' a US No.2 hit. Also on this day the group started a four-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with 'Green River.'

1964 - John Lennon

Oxfam printed half a million Christmas cards in the UK of a drawing by John Lennon called the Fat Budgie, which was taken from his book A Spaniard in the Works. All profits from the cards went to help raise money for charity. Oxfam re-printed the cards in 2007 as a limited edition card which again sold thousands.

Juneteenth and the Meaning of Freedom! Emancipation is a Marker of Progress for White Americans, Not Black Ones.

When word circulated earlier this month that Donald J. Trump would resume his campaign rallies on June 19th, with an event in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the confluence of date and location suggested that his typically leaden-handed racial trolling had taken on new levels of nuance. On its face, the choice of Tulsa defies political logic. In the upcoming Presidential election, Oklahoma is neither in play (Trump currently holds a nineteen-point lead there) nor lucrative (it will deliver just seven electoral votes to the winner).

By comparison, Trump trails Joe Biden by five points in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, and eight points in Michigan—all states that have more electoral votes and are crucial to Trump’s reëlection hopes. But, when taken in conjunction with the date—June 19th, or Juneteenth, the informal holiday on which African-Americans recognize the delayed emancipation of the enslaved inhabitants of Texas—the choice of the second-largest city in a sparsely populated, deeply red state assumes additional significance. Ninety-nine years ago, the homes and the businesses of the black community in that city were levelled, and as many as three hundred people were killed by white mobs in what came to be known as the Tulsa Massacre.

To close observers, Trump’s move seemed like a knockoff of Ronald Reagan’s decision to speak in Philadelphia, Mississippi—the site of the murders of the civil-rights workers Andrew Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael Schwerner—in August, 1980, immediately after he had won the Republican Presidential nomination. (In June, 2016, Donald Trump, Jr., made a campaign stop there on behalf of his father; Trump himself made three campaign visits to Mississippi, where, that summer, he polled higher than in any other state.)But Trump, and whoever in his Administration proposed the Tulsa rally, likely had more contemporary concerns. If the serial protests, the outrage, and the conflagrations of the past three weeks can be viewed as a statement about race in the United States, the rally was meant to be a response. Like Reagan in 1980, Trump is apparently seeking to shore up support among whites who not only tolerate racism but feel that they, in fact, are the group being persecuted.

Yet even this inspired bit of middle-fingering the movement was shot through with Trumpian ineptitude. For decades, even among African-Americans, Juneteenth was primarily celebrated by those who lived in or were from Texas. In recent years, it has been more widely observed, but still overwhelmingly by African-Americans. The Trump team, in designing the Juneteenth stunt, dramatically elevated awareness of the day. Companies across the country have made Juneteenth a paid vacation day; governors, including Ralph Northam, of Virginia, announced plans to declare it an official state holiday. The backlash prompted Trump to postpone the rally by twenty-four hours. In another sense, though, the Administration’s actions were entirely apt for a day bound up with the ambivalent history of freedom in the United States.

On June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to deliver General Order No. 3, proclaiming emancipation, the Civil War had been over for two months and freedom, at least theoretically, had been granted two and a half years earlier, by President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. (Congress had passed the Thirteenth Amendment, which abolished most forms of slavery, in January, 1865, though it was not ratified until December.) The size and the geography of Texas aided slaveholders in attempts to keep those enslaved from learning of emancipation. This was vital to the war effort: Lincoln’s edict had been calculated to disrupt the Confederate economy, which depended on enslaved labor. To the extent that Southern whites could keep the knowledge of emancipation to themselves, that labor force could be held in check. The strategy didn’t work: news of the emancipation spread, and Confederate states were hampered by black people escaping to the Union lines, with many of the men enlisting in the Northern ranks. The language of the Texas order spoke to the fragile nature of this new freedom; the paragraph that affirms the end of slavery also warns the black population against idleness and notes that unauthorized gatherings at military posts will not be tolerated.

The Emancipation Proclamation itself had been hedged to balance Northern interests and to incentivize Southern states with at least the possibility of retaining slavery if they rejoined the Union: the order freed only those people enslaved in areas of the country that were rebelling against the federal government. But Texas was in rebellion, and its black population did qualify for freedom on January 1, 1863, when the proclamation took effect. Texas ignored the proclamation, as did the ten other Confederate states. This all indicates a fundamental misunderstanding of the significance of Juneteenth. The fact that slaveholders extracted thirty additional months of uncompensated labor from people who had been bought, sold, and worked to exhaustion, like livestock, throughout their lives is cause for mourning, not celebration. In honoring that moment, we should recognize a moral at the heart of that day in Galveston and in the entirety of American life: there is a vast chasm between the concept of freedom inscribed on paper and the reality of freedom in our lives.

In that regard, Juneteenth exists as a counterpoint to the Fourth of July; the latter heralds the arrival of American ideals, the former stresses just how hard it has been to live up to them. This failure was not exclusive to the South. Northern states generally abolished slavery in the decades after the American Revolution, but many slaveholders there, rather than free the people they held in bondage, sold them to traders in the South, or moved to states where the institution was still legal. The black men, women, and children who heard Granger’s pronouncement a hundred and fifty-five years ago in Galveston were not slaves; they were a barometer of American democracy.

There’s a paradox inherent in the fact that emancipation is celebrated primarily among African-Americans, and that the celebration is rooted in a perception of slavery as something that happened to black people, rather than something that the country committed. The paradox rests on the presumption that the arrival of freedom should be greeted with gratitude, instead of with self-reflection about what allowed it to be deprived in the first place. Emancipation is a marker of progress for white Americans, not black ones. Trump, in planning to go to Tulsa for Juneteenth, was not trolling black people. He was trolling the United States Constitution. ♦

European politics, philosophy, science and communications were radically reoriented during the course of the “long 18th century” (1685-1815) as part of a movement referred to by its participants as the Age of Reason, or simply the Enlightenment. Enlightenment thinkers in Britain, in France and throughout Europe questioned traditional authority and embraced the notion that humanity could be improved through rational change.

The Enlightenment produced numerous books, essays, inventions, scientific discoveries, laws, wars and revolutions. The American and French Revolutions were directly inspired by Enlightenment ideals and respectively marked the peak of its influence and the beginning of its decline. The Enlightenment ultimately gave way to 19th-century Romanticism.

The Early Enlightenment: 1685-1730

The Enlightenment’s important 17th-century precursors included the Englishmen Francis Bacon and Thomas Hobbes, the Frenchman René Descartes and the key natural philosophers of the Scientific Revolution, including Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Its roots are usually traced to 1680s England, where in the span of three years Isaac Newton published his “Principia Mathematica” (1686) and John Locke his “Essay Concerning Human Understanding” (1689)—two works that provided the scientific, mathematical and philosophical toolkit for the Enlightenment’s major advances.

Locke argued that human nature was mutable and that knowledge was gained through accumulated experience rather than by accessing some sort of outside truth. Newton’s calculus and optical theories provided the powerful Enlightenment metaphors for precisely measured change and illumination.

There was no single, unified Enlightenment. Instead, it is possible to speak of the French Enlightenment, the Scottish Enlightenment and the English, German, Swiss or American Enlightenment. Individual Enlightenment thinkers often had very different approaches. Locke differed from David Hume, Jean-Jacques Rousseau from Voltaire, Thomas Jefferson from Frederick the Great. Their differences and disagreements, though, emerged out of the common Enlightenment themes of rational questioning and belief in progress through dialogue.

The High Enlightenment: 1730-1780

Centered on the dialogues and publications of the French “philosophes” (Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Buffon and Denis Diderot), the High Enlightenment might best be summed up by one historian’s summary of Voltaire’s “Philosophical Dictionary”: “a chaos of clear ideas.” Foremost among these was the notion that everything in the universe could be rationally demystified and cataloged. The signature publication of the period was Diderot’s “Encyclopedie” (1751-77), which brought together leading authors to produce an ambitious compilation of human knowledge.

It was an age of enlightened despots like Frederick the Great, who unified, rationalized and modernized Prussia in between brutal multi-year wars with Austria, and of enlightened would-be revolutionaries like Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson, whose “Declaration of Independence” (1776) framed the American Revolution in terms taken from of Locke’s essays.

It was also a time of religious (and anti-religious) innovation, as Christians sought to reposition their faith along rational lines and deists and materialists argued that the universe seemed to determine its own course without God’s intervention. Locke, along with French philosopher Pierre Bayle, began to champion the idea of the separation of Church and State. Secret societies—like the Freemasons, the Bavarian Illuminati and the Rosicrucians—flourished, offering European men (and a few women) new modes of fellowship, esoteric ritual and mutual assistance. Coffeehouses, newspapers and literary salons emerged as new venues for ideas to circulate.

The Late Enlightenment and Beyond: 1780-1815

The French Revolution of 1789 was the culmination of the High Enlightenment vision of throwing out the old authorities to remake society along rational lines, but it devolved into bloody terror that showed the limits of its own ideas and led, a decade later, to the rise of Napoleon. Still, its goal of egalitarianism attracted the admiration of the early feminist Mary Wollstonecraft (mother of “Frankenstein” author Mary Shelley) and inspired both the Haitian war of independence and the radical racial inclusivism of Paraguay’s first post-independence government.

Enlightened rationality gave way to the wildness of Romanticism, but 19th-century Liberalism and Classicism—not to mention 20th-century Modernism—all owe a heavy debt to the thinkers of the Enlightenment.

This means the unvaccinated population accounted for just 7% of Covid-19 cases, whilst the vaccinated population accounted for 93%, 72% of which were among the quadruple jabbed. Despite a mass booster campaign, and the Government of Canada trying to desperately conceal it, a bit of time, effort, and simple maths has revealed that 9 in every 10 Covid-19 cases, hospitalisations and deaths were recorded among the fully vaccinated population between 6th and 19th June 2022, and the vast majority of those were among the triple or quadruple jabbed. These aren’t the kind of figures we should be seeing for a Covid-19 injection that is allegedly 95% effective against infection, hospitalisation and death. It just goes to show that Justin “Communist” Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, really has lost his marbles by urging Canadians to come forward when called upon to get a repeat dose of the Covid-19 injection. Why? Because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. The question is, how many Canadians have also “lost their marbles”? Because these figures suggest the more jabs you have, the more likely you are to be hospitalised or lose your life if exposed to the alleged Covid-19 virus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
