Gathered up a bunch of August and Papatello info dumping I did yesterday on tweeter. Some was in reply to thoughtful or excited insight from others. I just love them so much OTL
👾🦋
Mikey: [googling] Wait Augustine means "great, magnificent"?
Donnie: [without missing a beat] Correct.
Leo: You....you named your daughter GREAT AND MAGNIFICENT...?
Donnie: Is she not?
Raph: I mean she is but-
Leo: You Cloned YOURSELF. And named your clone GREAT AND MAGNIFICENT-
👾🦋
Donnie and the family absolutely stop referring to August as or joking about her being a/the clone when she's still a baby. Once her personality starts to develop it's so clear she's her own person deserving of individual respect so that doesn't belong on the table. Donnie never hides that August was cloned / how she was made (and August takes pride in being cloned from her Papa who she admires and loves so much - NO ONE is smarter than her Papa, thank you VERY much!) but the clone word is Never used to put her down or belittle her or deprive her of full personhood. If anyone did refer to her specifically as Donnie's clone rather than Donnie's daughter it would absolutely be uncomfortable and kind of sting her. In cousin AUs, how August was created might cause her a little insecurity because she was the "unplanned science experiment gone 'wrong'" in her mind when she's feeling down but no one in her family has ever or would ever consider her that. Donnie boasts that she's his greatest creation (Next to Shelldon, obviously - I don't talk about his role as much but he's just as much Donnie's kid as August, he's just older and pretty self-sufficient by the time August shows up). August and Donnie mutually see their papa-daughter connection as a uniquely special one and enjoy/take pride in sharing it with each other. ;w; <3
Oh my gosh Donnie loves his daughter more than he can handle yES. He would be heartbroken if he ever found out she harboured thoughts like that [being a freaky science experiment mistake forced upon him] and likely go overboard doing his best to assure her in every way he can that he chooses her every millisecond of every day. August would get smothered in gifts and surprises and words of affirmation until it became overwhelming and she demanded he stop. But he'd still be extra attentive and aware of it afterwards.
I don't think August being a clone would be common knowledge outside the family - most would likely assume she has a biological second parent - but if for some reason she ever was teased about it and the fam found out there would be some serious glare intimidation and Very Big Words with the perpetrator's parents
👾🦋
It's important to me that August is treated like her own person independent of her family while also being a valued member of it. Of course Donnie is still going to lay down Dad Law but August's feelings and personhood are taken seriously and treated with respect. It likely helps a LOT that August is normally a pretty well-behaved kid but Donnie does an IMMENSE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH on parenting and babies when he decides to keep August and I think, by the time he's an adult, gentle parenting is something he would do well with. Will he still lose his temper or get impatient? Absolutely. But they both do their best to meet each other half way and ALWAYS apologize and address miscommunications or outbursts after they've cooled off. Neither likes being mad at the other. From his experiences with Shelldon, Donnie would know that just yelling at someone "because I said so" doesn't work and only hurts both of them to punish without August Fully Understanding Why she's being told no or being disciplined. I would say he's strict but fair. This gets tricky when she gets up to mischief but he recognizes her acting out is usually out of boredom / lack of stimulation / genuinely not realizing what she’s doing is ‘bad’ rather than maliciousness, and if he's clear in his explanations of why something is inappropriate then August is (usually) very receptive and respectful (unless she sniffs out a flaw in his armor - like their unspoken game of her trying to hack into his lab / certain files and him letting it happen sometimes because it's a good practice and mental challenge for her).
I also rly love August and Donnie bringing out the best in each other, both because of how similar they are AND because of how their differences can sometimes elevate, compliment, and teach each other. ;w; <333 It's not always easy to be a dad or a kid, but there's always, always love, and they actively seek out ways to express that and stay aware of each others' wavelengths even when (ESPECIALLY when) one of them is struggling or they aren't lining up.
I love Donnie having someone he can share his special interests with and who Gets Him and can Relate to how his brain works and struggles and shines. It's definitely such a blessing to have someone like that in your life. ToT
PS - I don’t normally explicitly state it because I worry about not being able to write it well enough but when others clock the neurodivergency in August I just [fist clench, manly tears] I’m rly glad it’s reading. Because writing her that way is definitely intentional.
👾🦋
August gets her own ninpo but it's still a secret right now UwU <3 She WILL however find it difficult to use, yeah. August spends so much time trying to be like her family that she struggles to find Herself amidst powerful giants and that definitely impacts how her ninpo manifests. At first it's unreliable and changes what it is sporadically, refusing to choose what it is. So although she unlocks it much younger than the boys unlocked theirs, she's unable to reliably use it until she's older. To compensate, she spends a lot of time learning how to use different weapons/ninja skills and hand-to-hand combat so she can still be effective even when her ninpo is on the fritz / struggling to find it's own shape. ;v;
Her best not-direct-family buddy is little CJ of the good timeline! They're around the same age and get on thick as thieves. Lots of hockey and junior vigilante-ing and goofing around. Also also->
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He would solidly go as "CJ" and is still Casey Sr's son. I imagine him being like kind of a mix of Rise movie Casey Jr. and 2012 Casey when he's older. A little louder and more gremlin than movie CJ cause he didn't grow up in an APOCALYPSE and is fully raised by Casey Sr, but still possessing plenty of the heart and heroics. Timid when he's younger though. Very
Augs: Excuse me, he asked for NO PICKLES
CJ: 🥺[shyly letting August take the lead, holding the hem of his own shirt]
Very old art incoming->
Tumblr media
👾🦋
Anyway yeah I love August and Paptello (And CJ!)

I’ve seen many people reblog a post which contains tweets that, in my eyes, amount to a single complaint that is only half true (but that I agree with for the most part). But anyway, here’s a longpost:
Tumblr media
(tweet in question)
I think it’s mostly wrong to say FPS multiplayer “peaked” ("was most fun for the playerbase"?) with Source games in the way presented. Believe it or not, you can still join a server with 30 people playing on a user map with fucked up assets everywhere, and some of the 30 people playing will be 14-year-olds with bad mics getting mad at being spawn killed by someone with 20,000 hours in the game. In fact, there are servers like this in most Source games, including Garry’s Mod, TF2, and CSS and CSGO (but honestly I think TF2 is most representative of the above scenario). I just launched Valve’s community server browser and have found an unending list of silly-sounding servers for TF2: Minecraft trade, Murder at the Mannor, Zombie Escape, Medieval Mode, all full or near-full. I checked Garry’s Mod: SCP-RP, Zombie Survival, Clone Wars Roleplay, “Swamp Cinema”, 1980’s Mafia Roleplay, DarkRP (x20), again, all well-populated. Admittedly CS2 was mostly deathmatch servers (due to it being Source 2 and not Source and so missing a lot of plugins that would allow for “fun” servers), but CSS still had surf, bhop, minigames, and jailbreak servers still going and full. My server browser won’t show CSGO for whatever reason, but up until CS2 released I know for a fact that these silly ass servers still exist there too. The implication that these servers and their conditions are gone is wrong. You don’t want a server with the exact same conditions though, I think you want to relive the specific memories you’re having and feel happiness again. But maybe I’m going too far there.
How about this. I’ll give it to you, Dusk developer, that for you FPS multiplayer peaked with insane TF2 trade servers, but you also make boomer shooters for a living, so I think you’re biased towards enjoying an older generation of games anyway. Modern FPS games are fantastic and in their own ways contain a lot of fun. Modern games in general fill the spaces that, for you, TF2 servers filled. Have you seen Roblox minigames and Minecraft server plugins? They’re actually crazy and decently well made. I’m excited that kids have grown up in such a good environment for games. They have tons of options that we didn’t have back then. It’s awesome! Like, don’t let your nostalgia blind you to the fact that kids are having just as much fun as you now. TF2 and Garry’s Mod are not the be-all, end-all of FPS multiplayer fun. That sentiment I completely disagree with and think people should get over.
But like, how the hell does competitive gaming play into this? I truly don’t buy the wording of “Esports and competitive ranking ruined multiplayer”. It’s just not true. Not only are the servers you’re mourning still exist, they’re still well-populated and their “golden age” coincided with some of the greatest heights in competitive FPS gaming. You know what’s funny? When CSGO released in 2012, TF2 saw a drop of almost 10,000 average players. It recovered basically the next year. Besides a small dip in 2018, TF2 had held around 50,000 average players since its release, until 2019 where its average player-count has risen to about 80,000 players. Garry’s Mod wouldn’t peak in total concurrent players until 2015 and has had a dedicated core of players averaging around 25,000 since like 2013. Seriously, these are incredibly consistent player-counts throughout the release of Overwatch, PUBG, Fortnite, Apex, and Valorant. In fact, contrary to the tweeter's implicit assumptions, it seems like nothing much has changed, and that competitive gaming did not, at all, ruin or depopulate these “fun” spaces.
So, again, how does competitive gaming and esports play into this? Only thing I think is valid is the fact that a few popular modern FPSes don’t do the whole “community-hosted server” thing: Apex, Fortnite, PUBG, Valorant, and Overwatch all do not have native community-hosted server support. Which, to be frank, is bad for their competitive gaming scene too! Esports has ALWAYS used self-hosted servers for practicing to get better. I don’t know the argument for not having these sorts of things, maybe not developing the toolkit for these things is easier than developing them. IDK. But I agree that it is bad that many popular games don’t support this sort of thing. The “self-hosted netizen” is a category of person that’s been declining for a long time regardless of the effect of competitive first-person shooter games on the casual first-person shooter games self-hosted server market. But again, for the topic of the post, I think this is a completely nonsensical implication. As far as I can tell ALL Valve-made Source engine games have active and popular community servers still, and the popular games ALL have very populated servers with “fun” gamemodes and atmospheres. Competitive has grown very popular, yes. It's true. It's fun to compete, everyone knows it. But esports has taken very little if anything away from the casual playerbase of Source games.
(Also, for the record, during the actual multiplayer FPS golden age of the time, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 shooters, there were no self-hosted servers for us, and it was still the most fun anyone ever had playing casually on console. It was the age of trickshotting and montages, man! For the intent of this post that exact restriction counts as “keeping players from interacting with one another” yet these games, especially COD, were, uh… infamously social. Not to mention these games had competitive scenes alongside the casual scene perfectly fine.)
I think, really, ignoring the actual content of the tweet, these tweets are just about nostalgia for your childhood. Which is fine! You can miss things you used to do for fun and no longer do. Probably every human that’s ever existed has gone through this. I mean, again, it is kind of popular in current culture to be nostalgic. The 90s aesthetic, early 2000s media, retro games, super hero movies, cartoons being consumed by adults to a greater degree than ever, et cetera. I think to some extent the complaint itself isn’t like, a completely unclouded judgement of the Decline of The Beauty of Multiplayer Gaming throughout the years. The concrete complaints in those tweets seem both a little rose-tinted and unnecessarily doomerpilled to me. But like, regardless, it’s kind of your fault for not returning to these things, man. Go join one of those servers if you’re not busy being an adult with a job and friends and other obligations that may keep you from doing things that you’re not used to and have fun like you did in childhood. Or is that what's actually the problem…? I don’t know. A suggestion. I just think in the end the complaint isn't valid.
This post is long and I had a LOT of thoughts that I may have missed or chopped off at the incorrect time. I think the picture I'm trying to build has probably been communicated, though? Maybe I’m not considering something, maybe I overinterpreted implications, maybe the fact that the playerbase of TF2 and Garry's Mod being highly consistent for ten years or whatever is not indicative of anything I've said, but I hope regardless you understand that like, at least part of this tweet is weird to say in the ways I've attempted to untease. People young and old are still having crazy times in video games and esports has done, as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing to change at, ever.
Turning off reblogs because I have a feeling anyone who doesn't follow me might become annoying about this

Dynaco Repair Post No. 6: The Glow Renewed
Tuesday evening, 12-26-23
I was completely caught off guard by the box by the front door when I got back from Bunny Duty/Safeway/Post Office errands today. Things are supposed to be delivered starting tomorrow, three different packages, but nothing was scheduled to come today.
Busted out in a big grin as soon as I saw it was from my bud in SC: The EL34s got here two days early! So...I was completely (and delightedly) doing something much different this evening than I had planned!
Tumblr media
In the box were five tubes, all of them "good spares" I had personally pulled out of working ST70s I had. I'd de-tubed them before I sold them on eBay. They went to afore-mentioned friend who was going to use them in HIS Dynaco, but hadn't yet. He sent 'em back to me, four of the square-bottled Mullards (three of 'em original Dynaco-branded actual Mullards), and one "Winged C" (the Russian iteration), and a JJ as a spare. These had been in one of the systems I'd set up for ANOTHER of our buddies (my bestie who died in 2021). Old, but good, solid tubes with lots of life left in 'em.
Tumblr media
The 5AR4 I have is the original one. The silvering at the top is almost non-existent. It's a US-made Mullard clone:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gorgeous, ain't it?
SO...I got the ST70 ready for relaunch. Put it on the bench and hooked it up to my trusty old Micronta variac, set to "Zero Volts", got the fuse in, and switched it on.
Tumblr media
Started out slowly turning it up to 10V, and waiting 15 minutes, and then turned it up another 10V to 20V, and waiting 15 more minutes, lather, rinse, repeat, until I got it up to about 117V.
Tumblr media
At about 40V I began to see the barest glow in all but one tube (that Winged C). At 50V, it began to glow as well. So far so good. After about an hour, I'd nursed it up to 70V, every tube glowing strong. I let it sit at 70V for about a half hour, and then just slowly turned the knob on the variac up to 117.
Every tube came up like a champ. The ST70 Glows once again!
Tumblr media
I let it sit and burn for about an hour, and checked the bias voltages. I had set the two adjustment pots to their center point. The left channel needed the slightest of increase (probably due to the Winged C) to get it up to the correct voltage, but the right channel was dead-set-centered on 1.56V. Boom. Rock solid. Done.
Tumblr media
Now that the repairs are done, and I know everything is working, I will start tomorrow on re-connecting and re-arranging all the components in the system. I'm kinda spent at the moment...it's been quite a day! I'll post more tomorrow, but for tonight I call it a victory. All of the thanks go to my buddies @misfitwashere (who got me the parts) and our old compadre "Harbourmaster" on the East Coast, who sent the tubes.
More tomorrow, and to all a bitchin' Good Night.
Wednesday Night, 12-27-23
Well, it took awhile, but I finally got things re-wired and in position. Got the turntable and the FM3 hooked up and both work splendidly. I found a super-shielded RCA cable for the turntable specifically, and it sounds better...there's almost no need for the turntable ground wire now!
First, tho', I have to show off my speakers. These started their lives as Pioneer boxes, Model CS-44, to be exact. I got them at the thrift store for $25.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BUT: the 8-inch woofers and tweeters in them were garbage, so I replaced them with new components: A pair of 8" butyl-rubber surround, poly-cone woofers (they will never need reconing), and a pair of genuine Danish SEAS Tweeters, salvaged from a working pair of Dynaco A-25s.
Tumblr media
The result? The 8-Inch Dynaco Speaker That Never Was! The A-10s had 6-inch woofers, and all the others had 10-inch woofers.
And the sonic result? A pair of mid-sized bookshelf speakers with rock-solid bass and the clearest, most well-defined mids and highs you could ever want to hear! And they don't look bad, either!
Here is everything finally in place:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that about wraps it up! I've finally got my music back. I'll finally be able to continue my vinyl transcribing, and won't have to worry about my equipment for another good long while.
Many thanks again to my bros @misfitwashere and Harbourmaster. I couldn't have gotten it accomplished without y'all's help.

Bisexual lighting Gundam builded.
Many believe that the Michaelis is unpopular because of its pilot, but I think the Schwarzette debunks that idea because Lauda is arguably more disliked than Shaddiq yet the Schwarzette is so cool that it's remained in high demand regardless. Now that I've seen this physical form it reminds me of General Grevious's design in the original Clone Wars cartoon and first lego Star Wars game.
Slightly off-topic story: Building this has reminded me of a notable G-Witch tweeter who I had a lot of issues with and who mocked people who thought Lauda might be the pilot, because they believed you needed cybernetic implants to use the gund format. Fast forward to the last few episodes and they were rather pretentiously insulting people who had issues with the story, in particular things that weren't well explained or developed, saying that the show was too subtle for them. I asked why they thought Lauda would need implants to pilot a Gundam if the show was really so understandable to them. Then they blocked me, which was real rude considering the couple times they reposted my memes.

Fic Writer Tag
I was tagged by Anonymous - thanks, hoss.
How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 32 works on AO3, with an original work that is ongoing.
What’s your total AO3 word count?
There's nowhere that tells me, but a rough estimate? Over 260k
How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
At AO3? 5
Golden Kamuy (18) ALL OUT!! (6) Gungrave (4) Legend of the Galactic Heroes (2) Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1)
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Stolen Soul is my fandom opus featuring the rare pair of OTANI/TANIO (Ogata/Tanigaki/Ogata), and it's got 89 Kudos.
In second place is Shōganai, another Golden Kamuy fic with 76 Kudos. It is part of a tetralogy of Hyakunosuke Ogata/Genjirou Tanigaki stories that begin pre-canon and end just before the raid on Abashiri.
The three remaining stories in that tetralogy round out my top five: Don't Look at Me, Haitsu Taiken, and Bunkatsu-sen—all with 76-73 ish Kudos each.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I always thank readers for commenting, and if I know them from other outlets, I will converse a bit.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Most of my fan fiction has angsty endings. One that stands out is Beta Clones (a Star Trek DS9 fic).
Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
No.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Oh, absolutely - but never in the comments.
GK fandom provided mostly anons and neck-talkers and sub-tweeters that slagged me as a person and sometimes insulted my fiction.
Say what you want about my work and its themes bothering you, I don't care - but making up shit about me was a whole other kind of strange I wasn't ready for...
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Oh, I write me some smut - and it's typically gay.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I've had two of my published works, and an unpublished script plagiarized. Never checked my fanfic.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've had five of my published works translated and a few of my Gungrave fics translated.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Fanfiction - no. Fan comics - yes, I consider the artists my co-writers.
What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Oh wow - it's a tie between KUGASHIRA/LEE (Gungrave) and OTANI/TANIO (Ogata/Tanigaki/Ogata)
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I'd love to finish Nach vorn Kommen (a LOGH fic), but I don't think it's in the stars.
What are your writing strengths?
I want to say dialogue.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Narrative pacing. I'm used to writing for artists or actors - not readers. I'm getting better.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
If I don't know the language, I find a native speaker to make sure I write it correctly. For original work, I use Italics and then denote the language being spoken in a dialogue tag.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Fandom? Oh, wow. Gundam Wing? My first fanfic, though, was Facts of Life, and I was about 12.
What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
I typically write stories or pairings I cannot find elsewhere. That being said, I like all my fics and don't have a diehard favorite - but I'm very fond of Obstacle, an AO!! fic featuring Daigo Takashi and Iwashimizu Sumiaki.
I don't know anyone here enough to tag them - if you see thisand you write fanfic, feel free to take it.

hello~
as promised, today I'm posting some of the theories related to skz lore
another achtung, this is my opinion and just assumptions based on information from different sources :з
and sorry for the mistakes <3
At the moment this is the last part of my thoughts about the new trailer. Well, at least those that I was able to put together into something unified and understandable. This time, finally, let's talk about the lore of the skz, about their "personalities" and what I suppose all this could mean for the continuation of the story.
So, we have already discussed what is shown in individual scenes and talked about references to albums. And, again, despite the fact that I have determined each of them as specific album, I cannot deny references to their other clips and comebacks. I also noted them in the first post with theories. But what does this mean for the history of the skz? There have been suggestions that this is a restart of their universe. I saw an interesting theory that this comeback is for fixing of past mistakes. And you know, these theories are INCREDIBLY interesting. Anyways I really think that this is still not a restart, but a continuation of the story.
So, what is the essence of the story, and what exactly are we continuing. Probably, you all have different knowledge of the lore of the band, as, in fact, I do, because for the most part these are all theories that have not been officially confirmed. Of course, we have all sorts of trailers like exclusive jype videos (well, like a prequel, etc.) and making film videos, thanks to which, thank God, we can find out at least some details. (As an example, a movie club drama, if there weren't making film, we wouldn't know that Seungmin and Jeongin had a fight, and Han was the cause of the accident with Lee Know, but we got distracted), but still most of the story remains for self-understending.
Crawling through YouTube, tumbler and tweeter, I came across a theory about time substitution (I didn't remember the word to describe it, if there is someone who can let me know, I will be glad ~). The theory was that the events shown in Maxident occur before the events shown in Oddinary. At the end of the Maxident, we see a kind of crime scene in which there are references to the scenes of the boys in the trailer. However, only to six. Who do you think is missing? Exactly, Felix and Jeongin.
Tumblr media
To begin with, there are few arguments in favor of the fact that these two eras took place in the same universe.
Changbin's hand, in Oddinary he was the one who held a sign with the inscription "Free Hugs".
Tumblr media
Of course, EVERYONE was talking about Hyunjin's apple (and if not, then yes).
Tumblr media
Minho plays with a car toy and knocks down tin cans, the same he hits with a golf stick in Oddinary, almost blowing off the head of Lix.
Tumblr media
Seungmin takes pictures with a bear in Maxident, in Oddinary he is a photographer, hands Felix a cake with his child's photo (children love soft toys and ride bicycles).
Tumblr media
In the trailer itself there are spoilers to the Maxident: the time on the electronic clock is 14:03, on the mechanical 10:07 (the release date of the case).
Tumblr media
But if we return to the theory that these events occur after, then this is not a spoiler, but a flashback or a hint. Something happened in Maxident that caused the skz to be replaced by their "evil" copies or personalities. (Honestly, there are so many different opinions about clones, but let's be honest, the only escaped clone we've seen is Jeongin. Yes, there were others in the Astronaut, but they remained in that world and did not even react to Hyunjin who came to them. In addition, I am more inclined to believe that these were not clones at all, but still their personalities from another world. And the only clone is, again, Iennie, who appeared back in the era of I am not music in the trailer). Let's return to the substitution for "evil" personalities. Do you remember "Felix never bad"? He is the only one who was not affected by what happened in Maxident (and even if we do not know what is this, it could be some kind of consequences of the battle with the Sound Monster from Noeasy. By the way, who was this monster? What if Lix from another universe, because the force with which "our" Felix repelled the attack is extremely similar to the attack itself... That could explain, why it didn't work on him). A little adjustment, the only one of the "real" skz. The second, whose traces are not at the crime scene, is Jeongin, the presumable culprit of what happened to the boys.
In Oddinary's trailers, we see Felix walking around looking for his friends.
Tumblr media
He holds the lock in his hands all the time and constantly opens and closes it. It seems to me that the lock symbolizes their's era of that time. Before that, they had "Cle" = keys, finished it and got into a new world, they opened all the locks, each with their own key (there was also a long way, loss of keys, etc. but in the end, probably, they were all found and found their locks). And this gesture of opening and closing is a kind of sign that Felix no longer knows in which world he should look for friends. In the present, they are missing, and perhaps he is talking about going back and looking for them there. But, fortunately or unfortunately, he finds Oddinary, in which he meets the "evil" entities of his friends. Here we return again to the importance of color theory in lore. In Thunderous, we were shown that evil is red, and good (aka skz) is blue. And if you look, you will notice that Felix in Oddinary is represented in blue tones, while the rest of the guys are in red, which indicates their evil nature now. And, again, everyone except Jeongin. He is in the trailer in blue tones, the scene turns red when he enters the "territory" of Seungmin. It turns out that he did not change his character, he is "himself". Or rather, his probably evil copy initially. The others have lost their memories of their real selves, but not Jeongin, because he is already an "evil double", so his colors are different from the others.
Tumblr media
At the end of the trailer, Hyunjin pushes Felix and he joins the "evil" personalities, becoming the same. In the new trailer for "5 star", he is the most inadequate, crazy Joker, "conductor", because he directs the group in the right direction (is it really right? quite possibly).
At the end of Oddinary's trailer, the lock, which I assume is a way of moving through the worlds, breaks, which entails the destruction of the boundary between the worlds. Therefore, in the new trailer, all past comebacks are represented by references, so the personalities of romantics and villains are mixed, which is why it is so chaotic and ambiguous. The worlds that were previously beyond a clear boundary are now mixed up, mixing the personalities of the boys. At the end of the 5-star trailer, they walk along the side of the building, buildings located perpendicular to the screen are visible in the distance. Either this is a new world formed because of everything that happened, or it is a "chaos" born because of the erased boundary between the former "lower" and "upper" worlds. And, perhaps, they will in some sense encounter their other personalities.
Tumblr media
Thus, in a sense, they now really have the opportunity to "fix" those mistakes that they made on the way. Perhaps this is what Felix wanted, if it really happens in the end? And maybe they'll finally find the real I.N and bring him back to the family? BANG CHAN YOU'VE LOST YOUR BABY HELLO!
Thats all for now~
Maybe i will post some details about Felix as a possible Sound monster c:

But between them, the development of journalism and of movies/TV made this particular function of the novel obsolete. If you want a chronicle of society, why not a transparent one? And if you want a social drama, somewhere between anthropology and gossip, it’s more fun with live actors.
Moreover, the pop-to-high cycle of cultural forms is so far a perennial feature of modern arts. Opera isn’t the exception, but the rule. When’s the last time you went to dance to some jazz in a speakeasy? Rap, rock, and comic books are just about high art now. Political philosophy is currently written by bloggers—which is to say that the humble blog, about which there were moral panics in 2005, is now equal to the venerated treatise. And whatever trash moves the masses in the present—what the kids are doing on TikTok or wherever—will probably evolve into something that wends its way into the gallery and onto the syllabus too. Both sides of the transaction occasionally irritate me—on the one hand, I sometimes ask, must we put all this trash into the curriculum? on the other hand, I have been to known to observe that comic books, damn it, were more fun when they were trashy—but the alternative is stagnation, is it not? Another 1000 years of Madonna-and-Child?
And there are advantages as well as disadvantages to finding your favored art form on the high-unpopular end of the axis. I don’t discount the danger of losing touch with the vernacular, of becoming merely academic. Still, though you lose the mass audience, if your ambitions encompass an alteration in political and social conditions, the elite audience may in the end prove more powerful. (Pragmatically, I mean, whatever the democrat might prefer as a matter of ethics.) And it leaves a wider margin to experiment. “Popular art” suggests mass chaos, but it’s often enough controlled by the blunt order of an economic calculus as stultifying as anything in academe.
I’m wary of prescriptions and manifestoes, but I think the novel now is most useful not when it expands Balzac-style to cover the whole of society, but when it contracts and concretizes, offers dense rather than diffuse images of existential or ethical dilemmas, and, in our disembodied world, recalls us to the sensory, the sensuous. There are more reliable places to find social facts—that’s nonfiction—and easy entertainment—that’s “TV” in all its permutations. Let the novel, by contrast, be a passionate provocation to thought and intense feeling.
Finally, these discussions always run aground on the particulars. Our Tweeter’s examples are all from the 19th century; the ship of the social novel as high art sailed with Henry James, however. Middlebrow remnants from Dreiser to Franzen remained, but, again, journalism and TV easily fulfills their function. Even in Balzac, not that I’ve read a ton of him, the exposition—the journalism—is sometimes livelier than the drama. Do you know what I remember most fondly from Lost Illusions? The little history of printing toward the beginning.
And at least two of Judah’s own examples of the social novel don’t even fit. Austen’s novels are “challengeless stories of modern interiority.” She understood them that way herself—“the little bit (two inches wide) of ivory on which I work with so fine a brush”—and critics have long complained about it, Edward Said most famously among recent writers. Her living heir—even when he writes about detectives, clones, dragons, and robots—is the supremely interior Kazuo Ishiguro, who is also, for whatever it’s worth, a very popular novelist. (The public doesn’t care about interiority?) And then there’s Dostoevsky, prophet of irrationalism in all its varieties, son of Poe and father of Kafka—or, in the Borgesian-Bloomian reversal of influence’s temporality, son of Kafka and father of Poe—who was not concerned with “society” but with everything it suppresses and represses. I admire all the names on Judah’s list, but only Dostoevsky and Austen look over my shoulder when I write a novel.

I keep thinking I've heard everything then . . .
I keep thinking I've heard everything, then . . . Every time I think, "Now I've heard everything," something else comes up and reminds me that no, I haven't heard everything yet. The latest item on the "now I've heard everything" list, also known as the, "What the . . . (fill in the blank)" list? You know how at the Bills-Bengals game this past week, when Damar Hamlin showed up to encourage his team? That wasn't Damar Hamiln. It was a clone. You see, Damar Hamlin really died. So the NFL and the FBI substituted a clone because they don't want to admit that Hamlin really died from the COVID-19 vaccine. This is why Hamlin has not done an interview since he was released from the hospital. And also why, when he went to the Bills-Bengals game, he came dressed in a mask, sunglasses, and hoodie. The person in the SkyBox that was filmed giving the "heart" signal to his team? That was the clone. And by the way, he wasn't really giving the "heart" sign.  He was flashing Illuminati signals. This is the theory floated on Twitter by a particular Tweeter whom I will not name. And sadly, there are those going along with it.  Damar Hamlin decided to troll the trolls by posting a picture of himself posing next to a mural someone painted of Damar making his "heart" gesture and commenting, "Clone". So let's see:   Damar Hamlin collapsed from cardiac arrest on January 2nd. But his cardiac arrest wasn't caused by a rare condition called commotio cordis. Or possibly another type of heart condition. It was caused by the "jab"; i.e. the COVID vaccine. So the NFL went into coverup mode and brought in a body double to play Damar Hamlin. He was trained for 72 hours to walk and behave like Hamlin, including the famous heart gesture.  And it was the FBI that brought in the body double. When he appears in public -- which he has done rarely -- he wears a mask, sunglasses and hoodie so that people won't know that he's not the real Damar. This is why he won't show his face and why he hasn't done an interview since being released from the hospital.  If you sit down and think about it:  - Wouldn't his family sense that there was something "off" about their son? - Why would the FBI be interested in bringing in a body double and helping the NFL cover up a death? - Why would the NFL cover up a player death in the first place? - Wouldn't the team know that there was something "off" about their friend and teammate?  Has it occurred to anyone that the reason why Damar Hamlin hasn't done any interviews is because he's still being treated for his heart condition? That the reason he wears a mask in public is because he has a heart condition and is now immunocompromised?  That he wears glasses and a hoodie in public because he'd probably be swarmed if people knew who he was?  I've read YouTube conspiracy comments about the JFK assassination, the RFK assassination, the 1969 moon landing, and the 9/11 attacks. A few days ago, I blocked a Tweeter who commented that they found it hard to believe that 19 "terrorists" took down a whole country with "box cutters" (the words in quotes are from the tweet.)  Six million Jews died in concentration camps, men did walk on the moon, the birth certificate is real, jet fuel does melt steel, and Oswald acted alone.  Add to that list: Damar Hamlin does not have a body double. It becomes very hard to keep your faith in humanity when you read certain comments on social media. These days, I just look at them, shake my head, and move on after a well-deserved eye roll for the commenter. Just my .04, adjusted for inflation. “Wouldn’t Be Made Today”
Tumblr media
i just saw this image put forth by some dumb idiot right-wing brit grifter on the tweeter, and it made me mad, so i’m gonna complain about it for a bit. join me, won’t you?
(note that i have no idea what simon bird actually said, and i’m not blaming him for the shitty and possibly deceptive pullquote. i’ve also never seen the inbetweeners, and i’m just using it as a random example here.)
the “X would never be made today” argument is such a dopey non-point, even among conservative arguments. but it’s all the more insidious for that. because the basic statement is self-evident, right? it’s not the fucking dunk on Woke Culture these numpties think it is, though. for it to be a dunk, you have to buy into this stupid crypto-fash declinist value judgment fallacy that the art of the past is Good and Right and the art of the present is Bad and Wrong, blah blah cultural decay, reject modernity, embrace tradition etc.
that’s not how art works! it’s not how culture works! most importantly, it’s not how artists work! they are not eternal beings who live outside of time! every single piece of art/entertainment/whatever is a product of particular and often uncontrollable circumstances which are impossible to replicate outside of those circumstances.
like, say the exact same cast and crew who made the inbetweeners decided to do a shot-for-shot remake of their show this year, using the exact same scripts and slavishly following the original beats, and so on. say they accomplish that goal to the maximal extent it can be accomplished. is the result the same show? no! of course not! it would be super weird!
even - perhaps especially - if they managed to reproduce every possible controllable detail, the inevitable differences would still stick out. everyone in the cast would be over a decade older, for a start. the weather on outdoor shooting days would be different, and even given an unlimited CGI budget for faking the weather on the old show and de-aging and blah, it would still look off.
”but wright,” you might reply, “when conservative weirdos lament that something wouldn’t be made today, they mean cultural mores and expectations have shifted enough that it wouldn’t be possible to pitch and create a roughly equivalent show today! all this semantic waffle about a hypothetical theseus’ show situation is a total strawman! no one’s arguing that literally cloning the inbetweeners in 2023 is possible or even desirable!”
you’re correct. the entire scenario is ridiculous on its face, as i’m sure you’ve already noticed. and it’s ridiculous because it presumes everyone involved in the inbetweeners wants to spend years doing a theseus’ show exact remake version of it in 2023. which they don’t, because they did it already.
which is my larger point. the reason the inbetweeners - and/or literally any piece of media that has aged at all - “wouldn’t be made today” is not because the Woke Mind Virus turned everyone into trans SJW beta cucks. it’s not even entirely because cultural mores have shifted - they have, for sure, but that doesn’t mean the audience for a roughly equivalent show isn’t there. in fact, the dunk quote tweet that brought this stupid image to my attention specifically mentioned derry girls as a direct - and superior, in their opinion - descendant of the inbetweeners, so it’s not as if shows in the same mold aren’t being made or can’t be made, is it?
no, the inbetweeners “wouldn’t be made today” because the cast and crew of the inbetweeners made the inbetweeners already! they’re different people for having made it! they’ve had over a decade of life experiences since they made it! they’d do the show differently if they made it now, because they’re different, and the audience is different, and the world is different! that’s not The Wokes doing anything - it’s just how time works! UGH!
ahem. anyway, yeah, heraclitus called this shit, so shut up, you weird fashy losers. k? k.

Joel Aron Fan Club Meeting - Dissecting the Lighting of 'Rescue on Ryloth'
Main Masterlist
Star Wars Masterlist
Get ready for a semi-cohesive rant disguised as a dissection on the lighting of Rescue on Ryloth, mainly just me fangirling over the man, the myth, the legend, Joel Aron.
If you don't know, Aron was the CG VFX and lighting supervisor for The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch, and holds the position of cinematography, lighting, and VFX director of Lucas Films.
He was also one of the frequent cryptic tweeters when TBB episodes were airing.
~ ~
Intro
So I went back to Rescue on Ryloth earlier today to find frames for the background of my laptop. I have to go through the episode second by second to get the right frames and I fell into a rabbit hole of examining individual shots could you tell I have adhd.
~ ~
NUMBER 1
Tumblr media
We all know this scene as the one Hera calls for the help of TBB Leia Organa style.
First off, I absolutely love how Hera's projection isn't just all shadows, the light from whatever screen Chopper probably has out is reflecting on her face. The contrast between her left side verses her right is gorgeous and so effective in telling us she's somewhere dark, perhaps in hiding, which contributes to the storytelling as well.
As well, the minimal (but strong) light showing on her right lekku is much warmer than the cool lighting of the screen reflecting on her face, which also tells us she's somewhere dark but with access to natural light. Perhaps a cave?
Something not related to lighting, but this whole scene was beautifully framed. The natural leading lines of the ship console unconsciously guide our eyes to Hera, the subject of the scene. This is one of the main things my art teachers love to yell at my grade for: why don't you have any leading lines to draw attention to the subject?! It's free real estate! The design of the cockpit makes so much sense from a visual and storytelling standpoint which I appreciate a lot.
I go to an art high school, so we have enhanced programs that you have to audition for. I have a visual arts major (like uni majors and minors) that I auditioned for, so I get the highest level of arts education my school has to offer, unlike a visual arts minor or the general arts courses of the Canadian curriculum, so when I'm talking about my art teachers yelling at us about things, they fuckin yell cause they know we know better.
~ ~
NUMBER 2
Tumblr media
A theme you'll start to see in this rant is that I'm a huge fuckin fan of harsh contrast. Dark darks, light lights, that kinda thing (Spoons, if you see this, 😎. If you know, you know). I incorporate it into my own art to make it more effective in the vibe I'm trying to convey.
Joel Aron's style is hard, hard contrast and accentuating natural outlines, he even confirmed that in an interview when talking about season 7 of TCW, and he's incredible at executing this! The small sections of light reaching Hera are making her character stand out even more against the background and grounds her even more in the space. Harsh black outlines usually used to make something stand out don't appear naturally, so finding other ways to naturally outline or highlight a character against the environment is a must, and Aron is so fuckin good at this, his style contributing tremendously to it as well.
Plus the light is much warmer than the shadows which I appreciate a lot. Natural sunlight is always going to come off in warm tones on any surface, so thank god this guy knows colours and basic lighting 🤣
~ ~
NUMBER 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, just more amazing contrast and separating a subject from the surrounding environment using light.
As well, the 2 bottom images really resemble Crosshair in the second last episode when he's being all edgy and saying "Don't make the same mistake twice, don't become my enemy" and like- bruh, this man is fuckin typing up non-existent loose ends through the fucking lighting of all things doing better then the writers, but that's none of my business >kermit sipping tea meme<.
He also said somewhere that it was definitely his intention of lighting Crosshair much darker than the rest of the Batch to show his alignment with the Empire or some shit, so I don't know what he's doing here, but as a dark Omega fan, I approve 👀👀
~ ~
NUMBER 4
Tumblr media
Even more beautiful contrast. Something my photography teacher also drilled into our heads is the triangle rule (at least that's what she called it), which is actually called rembrandt lighting. When you photograph portraits, you usually want a small triangle on the opposite side of the main light source to balance out the shadows or some shit.
But Aron didn't do that here. Remember, his style is much more dramatic and heightened. He used split lighting here, where half the subject's face is completely shadows and the other completely light, a demonstration of the stylistic choices he made for this show.
~ ~
NUMBER 5 (you made it to the end! Gold star to you bestie)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More cool and warm highlights being used, the warm coming from within the ship which is also positioned towards her friends and the planning of rescuing her parents which I find kinda cute and the cool light from space outside the windshield?, both beautifully outlining her face and kind of showing what she's fighting for: her family (warm light) and the freedom of space and the galaxy (cool light), but I'm totally reading into this, so take it with a grain of salt 🤣, he probably didn't mean anything by that.
~ ~
END
So yeah, that's my rant on the lighting of Rescue on Ryloth.
Hey, you know what's a good idea, if you want me to dissect a specific scene or episode of any series/movie in Star Wars based on an art student's perspective and 'expertise', just ask! I love talking about Star Wars and art techniques, plus I'd get to use my schooling for something useful.
There'll definitely be more of these as I go through the episodes to find more backgrounds, but if you ask for a certain episode, I'll definitely get to that ep. first!

WWhy does the official sculpt of Ten look like he’s having an existential crisis? And putting the helmet on/taking it off scrapes his nose. Off the top of my head I can’t say if he’s still on that body or I put him on another. The paint job isn’t bad, I’ve never touched him up or anything.
Tumblr media
I couldn’t afford a regular 10 but I could manage space suit 10 and it took nothing to get the head off and pop it on one of the DMLs. Now I want to pop him on one of the Chinese Ken clones so he’ll finally had the Tennant build.
Tumblr media
There have been a few casting changes over the years. These pics are from the sewing book I made back in the day. It’s at Lulu.com, do an author search for Kim Reed. Full sized patterns for many boy dolls from 22-30cm.

The Master is a Click-N-Play/Power Team Elite, you have to look carefully at the sculpts because they change them up a lot. I guess I have about 50 of the individual sculpts and whomever is making them does a good job. Paint can be hit or miss but you can take acrylic to them.

I know anything worth doing is worth doing for money but unless you were The Doctor there is like no way in Hell I could be convinced to make another set of My Little Time Lords.
Unless it was under The Doctor’s orders.
In all seriousness because I’ve done 2 sets and a spare Four and it takes all sorts of carving, sculpting, and thin layers of paint to make sure they stick to do those little bastards.
Tumblr media
Not that I’m going to need a new iPod because the batteries are dying on the other two I have.
But mad props if anyone actually sends one of these pics to one of David Tennant’s social media and Georgia responds because we know he doesn’t have any idea what a Tweeter is.
