Follower Milestone Special!!
Tumblr media
Hi everyone. When I first started this blog, I thought it would cater to maybe five or six people who enjoy slandering Dazai as much as I do. But there are 200 of you here now— I am honored and surprised to have all of you here with me
For this special event, I’ve decided to go through the follower list and see which bsd characters appear in your profile pictures, and share with you a chart of the results I found.
I find fun little statistics charts fascinating, and I was always kinda curious to see what the results of this would look like.
So without further ado, the results!!

Hi uh— How about this, how would the killers react to a gn killer reader who before and after being sent to the entity realm is obsessed with music?? They’re constantly itching to get music in their ears or even make their own. It’s a big part of who they are, and they’re unfortunately limited in this realm when it comes to it.
Thanks in advance!! (P.S love the way you write!! It’s great! :D)
That's a neat one. I can do that. I'm going to change it to a reader who likes music if that's okay. Please enjoy.
With a music loving reader: Trickster, Legion (Julie), Legion (Frank)
Trickster
Music you say?
You want to hear real music?
Well then you've come to the right person.
He is a famous musician after all.
Ji-Woon will remind you of that on the regular.
He's really just bragging to be honest.
Just let him have that.
Although he may seem obnoxious about it, he's really glad to have another music fan in the realm with him.
Believe it or not, he won't just talk about his own music.
Although, that will be most of what he talks about.
He likes to hear what you're into too.
Although he sincerely hopes you do enjoy his music.
He'll even listen to some of the music you listen to.
Even if he hates it, he'll listen to the song all the way through first.
Then, he might complain about it.
But he's willing to give it a chance first.
If it weren't for you, he wouldn't have learned about other types of music.
And, consider yourself lucky, because he's willing to put on a whole private show just for you.
Make sure you praise him lots. He thrives off of that.
Rather, it's just what he's used to.
Having you in his life is actually a godsend.
He's so used to having adoring fans around him all the time, he isn't sure how to live without it.
Even if you don't love his music, try and at least pretend you like it more than you do.
And, intern, he might try some different music styles.
He might even try and make something just for you.
Legion (Frank)
"You've got to listen to this!"
Frank is the type who will take off your headphones and put his in your ears.
It's not that he's trying to be rude or obnoxious.
He's really just excited to share his music with you.
His favorites are metal and rock, though occasionally he will listen to some pop music 🎶 n occasion.
He's also the type that has his music turned up to the max.
So be prepared to have it blaring in your ears.
Being a foster kid, he didn't have much.
He went through many different foster homes in many different situations.
And, often, there was no one there for him.
The one thing that was always there for him, was music.
Music was his way of getting through the tough times.
You can always tell how he's feeling based on the type of music he's listening to.
He even has certain songs that he listens to when he's trying to get through certain situations.
So when he shows you the song, it's really him asking for comfort.
Make sure you're also sharing your music with him.
And don't just share the first song that you pull up.
Share music that means something to you.
Even if it's something he doesn't like, he won't say anything about it.
Since you shared it with him, it must mean something to you.
When he shares his music, it's his way of putting himself out there and being vulnerable around you.
Which is something that's very difficult for him to do.
So, intern, he wants you to be vulnerable with him.
Not only does it make him feel like you're an equal, it makes him feel like you can trust him.
And that's all he really wants: someone to trust.
Legion (Julie)
Julie has a very diverse preference with her music.
And it all has to do with her mood.
She wears her emotions very clearly on her face.
Usually, looking at her face is enough to tell how she's feeling.
But with her mask, it's harder to tell.
So, make sure you're listening to her music.
If she's in a happy mood, she'll usually be listening to pop or something upbeat.
If she's angry? Usually metal or some heavy rock.
If she's sad it's usually something more melancholy or softer.
She's also the type to blare it through her headphones, so when she wants to share be sure to be prepared for your ears to be blown out.
It's honestly a miracle she isn't deaf.
She really wants you to feel the music, so she won't say a word to you during the song.
But after, expect to talk about it.
All of it.
The words, the sounds, transition, beats, everything.
All of it means something to her, and she wants to discuss it.
Not like in a scholarly way.
In more of a friendship type way.
It's how she bonds with people.
She's also super willing to listen to your music too.
But make sure you think carefully about what you show her.
She doesn't want to hear the first thing when you hit shuffle.
Julie wants to hear your favorite song.
And be prepared to answer questions after.
"Why that song?"
"What does it mean to you?"
It might sound like she's interrogating you. But she doesn't mean to sound like that.
Really, she's just excited to be listening and spending time with you.

Shin Megami Log 4(After Game Thoughts)
Tumblr media
Finished SMT V during Christmas, and I have THOUGHTS.
I'm gonna put all that under the 'Read More' bit, so if any of you are interested in this game, then scroll past and no peeking.
Right then, final thoughts:
Brief history lesson first, I knew very little about the SMT series or the spin-offs like Persona. Of course, with how incredibly successful Persona 5 is, it's hard to miss any sort of info. But even then, my knowledge of the entire franchise was very limited. All I know is that it's basically the "Dark Souls" of RPGs with character driven stories that have of ingredients than a Final Fantasy title. At least, that was the vibe I was getting.
But even then, I never have been interested enough to want to give any of the games a try. I did get Persona Q2 back when I first heard of the 3DS dying out, but it mostly because I didn't want a Persona game with Joker's face on it to be forever lost. Weird I know, but that was my train of thought, at the time. But after clearing the first boss(and realizing that prior knowledge of Persona 5's story is an absolute must) I got bored and haven't touched the game since.
Fast forward a few years later, when Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne was announced with a HD port to current gen consoles. I was genuinely excited by the announcement. This meant that if I ever decided to give Nocturne a try, it'll be alot easier for me to do so now. Then after that came the biggest surprise of all; Shin Megami Tensei V.
Now this....this caught my attention. Though I can't really explain why. Was it the character designs? The gorgeous looking world? "D" all of the above? All I can say is that something 'clicked' and I was very interested. Even though it would take two years later until I actually got it.
And I'm so glad I did.
I was invested right from the start. From the silent "show don't tell" protagonist, all the way to Lufcier himself, the story, even with its swiss cheese holes in plot at some points, had me hooked from start to finish. The combat never got boring. I was constantly thinking of strategies and building up my demons that suited my needs and my playstyle. The world was incredibly fun to explore, even though the lighting choices, in some areas, made my eyes strain a bit. It would take me up til the big boss of the area for me to finally adjust.
And the bread and butter of it all, The Law and Chaos mechanics. A stable, I've come to understand, in the SMT series. Yet an important take away from all this is that nothing is as black and white as it seems on the surface. SMT is a franchise that makes you think. It makes you question yourselves and you inner most thoughts. And SMT V had me rolling in so many thoughts, that when I reached the 'alignment lock' of the game, I had to take a break because I was starting to get overwhelmed.
Of course, this could very well be a really weird quirk of mine. But when I get into a really good story, I REALLY get into it. And the choices I make would impact the ending I would get.
By all accounts, the Law ending would naturally mean the good ending, right? Well sure...if you can live with a Law that discriminates all other forms of thinking(a.e. free will), will not hesitate to punish they see as 'unfit' and the willingness to become corrupt yourself, just to prove a point. Sure. Law is the way to go.
The Chaos ending usually entails victory for the bad guys. And yet, there really isn't a clear "villain" in this case, other then the absolute obvious ones(f you Lamau). In Chaos, there is diversity, the freedom to choice your fate, to be yourself. And yet with so many possibilities, there will be disagreements, arguments of what is right and wrong, and power competing against power. No one really wins, and there is constant strife. But hope is just as abundant, with the capability that anything is possible.
The Neutral ending is well...the Neutral ending. You don't pick a side. You're that little kid that asks, "Why not both?" A balance of law and chaos. So understandably this would the best choice. Yes...except the neutral path follows a man who has been brought down low by both law and chaos. He lost everything precious to him, to the point where he belittles his fellow man if they show any sort of weakness. So the solution? Make humanity the leading power of the universe, but take away every viture and sin that exists in the heart and soul. And by extension, all the angels and demons in existence. Never to be even a story told by campfire light because it would never be allowed to cross through the mind. Humans would be free of woe and fear, and grow abundant in their everyday lives. But will it truly last?
You could probably guess which ending I ended up getting. And quite honestly, I'm satisfied with it. Plus it lines up perfectly with my ever growing headcanons of the Nahobino. So I'm taking it as a win.
I honestly can not recommend SMT V, especially if you're like me who enjoys a good rpg that I can sink my teeth into. It has it flaws, yes. But they feel so small that it doesn't really bother me. Some of them I can just 'fix' with good old imagination. And it's definitely inspired me to play Nocturne next, for sure. But first, I want to see if I can beat the Demi Fiend himself in combat....
There's so much more I'd like to talk about, but I think I rambled long enough.
The main takeaway? I LOVE THIS GAME. Definitely gonna be alot of fanart for sure. And I'm gonna get my hands on some merch when I can. It probably won't exceed my growing Darksiders collection, but it might come close in time, lol.
The other main takeaway from all this is that I get it now. I get the appeal and why this series is standing as strong as it is. HEE-HO!!!

I'm so glad with the success of the kickstarter, I'm very excited! A question I do have is; will you hire any sensitivity readers for Our Life 2? I know you guys are honing in on diversity for this game and I'm excited for that but I'm also a bit cautious since to be frank, OL1 had its issues with issues of race and diversity.
I am gonna hire people to help with that, though they might be as editors rather than strictly sensitivity reading so it's more about having them contribute their experience directly rather than giving feedback I implement.

10 Heartstopper Season 2 Things I Am Excited About
(comic spoilers ahead)
10. Truth or Dare.
The drama, the angst, the drama. The possible major turn of events. My theory is this scene will be very different from the comic, especially with Ben being confirmed on the trip.
Tumblr media
9. The teachers.
Need I say more? As someone who didn’t have something like Heartstopper as a teenager, it’s good to see adult characters have similar experiences.
Tumblr media
8. Nick and/or Charlie taking naps together.
It’s just so cute, like come on.
Tumblr media
7. Tao loosing his mind over Elle.
Tao being all nervous around Elle at the realization he has feelings is so cute. I also love that he completely simps for her HARD. He thinks she’s the most amazing person ever, he’s her biggest fan, and she is his.
Tumblr media
6. The angst of them trying to tell each other they love each other.
5. Charlie and Nellie moments.
Someone get this man a photo album.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Nick’s rugby coach coming out to him.
She slay.
Tumblr media
3. Nick reuniting with his friends.
One of my favorite aspects of Heartstopper, is it’s emphasis on the importance of having a diverse range of relationships. Romantic and platonic relationships are so important. Expecting everything you need emotionally, physically, and mentally to come from one person isn’t possible or fair. Strengthening different relationships not only strengthens individuals, but also other relationships.
I would have put this one higher, but it may be more focused on in later season(s).
Tumblr media
2. Nick and Tao’s growing friendship.
I love the relationship between Tao and Nick, and am excited for it to grow in season 2. Tao cares so much about his friends, and I know will start to realize how kind and genuine Nick is, while still holding his pride about being wrong.
Tumblr media
1. Tara and Darcy’s story being more prominent.
Even though Tara and Darcy are side characters, their relationship is still one of the most known sapphic relationships on tv. To see them get more of a story this season is extremely exciting. I think their relationship struggles this season will be one extremely relatable to a lot of queer people, and I’m glad to be able to see them overcome it, and remain happy as queer couples deserve to be.

every single book I read in 2022. all 129 of them.
jesus christ
let's start with the best of the best; everything else will get listed beneath the read more because I'm not an animal. even just picking out my favorites is honestly probably going to get pretty lengthy, even though I'm trying to keep the synopses short.
batmanisagatewaydrug's noteworthy books of 2022
Complaint! (Sara Ahmed, 2021) - necessary for anyone doing diversity work in higher education, tbh
America is Not the Heart (Elaine Castillo, 2018) - achingly gorgeous novel of heartbreak and healing.
The School for Good Mothers (Jessamine Chan, 2022) - honestly? I feel very good calling this my favorite book of the entire year. sensitive, smart, chilling.
Black Feminist Thought (Patricia Hill Collins, 1990) - truly ashamed to say I didn't read this sooner. Collins' clear-eyed analysis remains crazily spot-on 30+ years later.
Hurts So Good: The Science and Pleasure of Pain on Purpose (Leigh Cowart, 2021) - I read this book so early in 2022 and literally have not stopped thinking about it since.
Batman: King Tut's Tomb (Nunzio DeFillippis, Christina Weir, José Luis García-López, and Kevin Nowlan, 2009) - dare I say the most fun I had with a comic all year.
You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty (Akwaeke Emezi, 2022) - a romance unlike any other. queer, fun, sexy, bold as hell, and joyfully life-affirming.
The Dangers of Smoking in Bed (Mariana Enríquez, trans. Megan McDowell, 2021) - DELICIOUSLY creepy short stories that will lurk in your brain forever.
Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century (Kim Fu, 2022) - if a more perfect short story collection exists I am yet to find it.
The World We Make (N.K. Jemisin, 2022) - I normally hesitate to include sequels on a list like this, but god DAMN Jemisin is the queen of modern spec fic for a reason.
We Do This 'Til We Free Us: Abolitionist Organizing and Transforming Justice (Mariame Kaba, edited by Tamara K. Nopper, 2021) - excellent collection of Kaba's abolitionist writings, drawing on years of organizing experience and wisdom.
Jade City (Fonda Lee, 2017) - look out! new favorite doorstopper fantasy series alert!
Priestdaddy (Patricia Lockwood, 2017) - about the best damn memoir I've ever read. heartbreaking and hysterical in turns, poetry the whole way through.
Batman: The Long Halloween and Batman: Dark Victory (Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, 1996 and 1999) - it's always so exciting when something much-hyped lives up to the hype in every way. Batman at his grim and moody Batmaniest with a Gotham that’s deliciously bleak.
Station Eleven (Emily St. John Mandel, 2014) - I didn't think I'd like this book much at all, then ended up proposing on the second date. oops!
I'm Glad My Mom Died (Jennette McCurdy, 2022) - you will also be glad McCurdy's mom died, and also experience every other known human emotion along the way.
Kaikeyi (Vaishnavi Patel, 2022) - SPLENDID mythology retelling + political fantasy.
My Body (Emily Ratajkowski, 2022) - haunting haunting haunting personal essays about Ratajkowski's life as a model and subsequent alienation from her own body.
Batman: Bruce Wayne, Murderer? (Greg Rucka et al, 2002) - genuinely what can I say I'm a messy bitch and I love when the Bats are having a terrible time.
The Batman Adventures Vol. 2 #1-17 (created by Dan Slott, Ty Templeton, Rick Burchett, Terry Beatty, and Bruce Timm, 2003) - a continuation of the Batman: The Animated Series universe that frankly just fucking rules.
Little Rabbit (Alyssa Songsiridej, 2022) - a potent and erotic adult coming of age story.
The Right to Sex: Feminism in the Twenty-First Century (Amia Srinivasan, 2021) - thorny, difficult, vital essays.
Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia (Sabrina Strings, 2019) - jaw-droppingly thorough research into the role of fatpobia played and plays in the project of race-making.
On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous (Ocean Vuong, 2019) - yeah so it turns out no one was REMOTELY exaggerating. Vuong really is That Good.
Hench (Natalie Zina Walschots, 2020) - wild fun with a ruthless protagonist and her sex villainous beetle man boss; what more could you ask for?
Love Your Asian Body: AIDS Activism in Los Angeles (Eric C. Wat, 2021) - learning about queer history makes me feel like I’m holding something so vibrant and fragile and precious right in my little queer hand. this book is an emotional journey in such a shining way.
Never Have I Ever (Isabel Yap, 2021) - EXCITING short story collection centered on girls having Just The Weirdest Time.
and everybody else:

Light From Uncommon Stars (Ryka Aoki, 2021)
Our Wives Under the Sea (Julia Armfield, 2022)

Thirsty Sword Lesbians (April Kit Walsh, 2021)
special shame zone because I want you to know how bad this sucked, do not read this:
Rethinking Sex: A Provocation (Christine Emba, 2022). patronizing, puritanical, reductive, painfully cisheteronormative. weirdly afraid of group sex. not actually that provocative, just aggressively Catholic.
and last but most certainly least, a comic that I want to remind you all fucking sucked just one more time before the year is done.
Batman: One Bad Day - The Riddler (Tom King and Mitch Gerads, 2022)
Tom King, go fuck yourself. Mitch is cool though, the art slapped.

first months as a (substitute/supportive) teacher - some thoughts (an incomplete list)
autumn holidays start on friday, so I thought I'd write down some thoughts on my experience of the last 2-ish months. I definitely have some growing and learning to do, it shows that I'm only half-trained for this
surprisingly I enjoy working with the smallest (grade 1/2) the most. it's partially that (unless they need me for substitute lessons) I spend the most time in that class and have gotten to know the pupils quite well. I know the routines of the class and I got into a great rhythm with the main teacher
the pupils are opening up a lot more about their interests and their lives, striking up conversations with me when they see me in the yard during break. I'm glad that I don't seem like a stranger to them anymore!
substitute lessons without tasks prepared by the teacher are more draining than I expected them to be. I also lack skills for coming up with substitute lessons for my subjects (let alone other subjects) bc I have very little experience of what they're already supposed to know/be able to do. especially in english lessons it's hard to find an appropriate level
being the only visibly and out trans nonbinary teacher is exhausting. I'm looking forward to the day when I've given substitute lessons in every class so I can stop explaining myself. I don't mind explaining queer topics to children and it's important to have those conversations but I'm the only one having them bc I have to, bc my genderqueer appearance raises questions and if it doesn't introducing myself as mr./mx. does.
related to that I'm excited to work with another colleague on a diversity concept for the school that focuses on queerness. our main objective will be to raise awareness in teachers and students
I still struggle to find an appropriate mix between being strict and being fun. with some classes it works well, with others I need to be stricter than I'd like to be, with others I need to ease off a bit.
schools are incredibly gendered spaces and while I obviously knew that it still caught me off guard (and tbh I think it's having an influence on my habits which I Don't Like At All). everything is very clearly divided into boys and girls. I'm generally good with gender neutral language, but compared to my first weeks I jump to use gendered terms much quicker now (example: saying "the girl in the red jumper" instead of a neutral version when I don't know their names yet), including when I talk about myself which feels weird
good quality sleep is so important. being a teacher is super demanding, especially in some more chaotic classes and showing up with only a few hours of sleep is Not It
being able to remember names really well really fast is a super power and I'm grateful I can do that every time I meet a new class for a substitute lesson. the kids are impressed (teachers too), but most importantly it creates a different atmosphere in the classroom. (it's also easier to remind them of class rules when they need it)
so far, the past months have confirmed what I've been thinking for a while: teaching is something I could do, but I'm less sure if it's what I want to do in the long run. so even though I wasn't able to start deaf studies this winter I'm sticking to my plan: try out deaf studies for a year (starting next autumn) and work on the side, then decide if a) I keep going like that to do the full deaf studies b.a. b) I pause deaf studies to do my teacher training and then evaluate again or c) I do my teacher training and pick up uni classes for fun after

Drarry Disability Fest 2023
It's 2023 and it's time to add a new drarry fest to your fic-writing schedule! Introducing for the first time ever: Drarry Disability Fest 2023.
Exciting, right? A fest dedicated to the accurate representation of disabilities, d/Deafness, medical conditions, and mental illness; Drarry Disability Fest is the first of it's kind. In this fest there will be no romanticism of disability (though romance will definitely be present elsewhere), instead we want our artists and writers to focus on accurate depiction - whether it be of the sad, mad, or glad times of disability and mental illness.
Our goal is to add diversity to the Drarry fic and fanart community, and we firmly believe that while disability and mental illness can be very difficult to handle, they do not mean that we're destined to a life of inaction and solitude; we are an empowered community.
All the mods for this fest are disabled/mentally ill to some extent, and have experience with a variety of additional disabilities to ensure that we have maximum ability to give feedback and filter prompts to the best of our ability.
We would also like to say that everyone's experience with mental illness and disability is different, so if you end up reading a depiction of your illness or disability that differs from your own, please accept that we do our best to filter the media in this fest so that it is safe for disabled readers, and remember that every different experience with a condition is valid.
This fest will not be anonymous, and we're posting to the fest AO3 Collection in July as that is Disability Pride Month. We will be opening a Drarry Disability Fest Discord server soon, so follow our tumblr to be sure you don't miss that announcement.
Anyone may prompt to this fest, even if you don't plan to create anything, however we will be filtering your prompt submissions on the AirTable to ensure they are sensitive to the disability/mental illness you are wishing to see depicted.
Beta readers/viewers are required for each submission. You can self prompt when claiming, and you can claim multiple prompts as long as you submit each work before claiming a new prompt.
The Dates are as follows in MST/MDT:
March 15: Prompting Begins
April 8: Prompting Closes
April 15: Claiming Opens
May 31: Claiming Closes
June 17: Submissions Deadline
July 1: Posting Begins
July 31: Posting Ends & Fest Wrap-up
More Rules and Information to come, we hope you're as excited for this as we are!
Sincerely,
Your mods: @basicallyahedgehog (tumblr), @quackquackcey (tumblr), @slytherinthelibrary (tumblr)
A PSA: We acknowledge that J.K. Rowling is the author of the series this fandom is based in, however all mods involved strongly disagree with and refute any and all racist, antisemitic, transphobic, homophobic, and other prejudiced ideas the author holds. This is a safe space for trans people and two of our mods are trans themselves. If you are transphobic or homophobic or otherwise prejudiced against any marginalized group; you are not welcome here.

I'm so devistated, I though he was my friend
We met during a giur course (both of my grandfathers are Jewish and while both me and my parents consider ourselves Jewish, I personally want to return to our roots and be more spiritual, and since I'm in Israel an Orthodox conversion is my only viable option, not that I terribly mind it, I'm still practicing my own way, but I want to go though giur for myself) and became quick friends, he left due to mental health issues and I was glad for him because he got some help and really found himself afterwards
Recently I found out that he decided to go back to Christianity (we both are (or in his case, he unfortunately was) Jewish but one side of his family is Christian). It's his faith and his life, it's not my place to say anything and it is was a part of him finding himself so I was happy for him, excited even, because we now could have conversations about differences in our faith as we both learned more and more!
And then I noticed just how much more homophobic he'd become, before it was just general uncomfortableness for him and (in my eyes) I was showing him our humanity I'd say? We're both from Russia, where one generally doesn't really interact with queer people (most of us are in hiding) and a lot of people are very homophobic, so I though that just interacting more with a queer person such as myself could potentially help him out since it has been proven that interacting with a diverse group of people really helps one rely less on preconceived notions and stereotypes. Of course it's not something I have to do but he was my friend and I really thought I was bringing a different perspective to the table which he might consider I guess?
We talk a lot about different media and he started complaining quite a bit about queer representation and when I challenged him on this today he started talking about how "people are choosing wrong" and how it shouldn't be shown to children "like smoking and alcohol", how it's "unnatural", we argued for a bit and of course I argued from a Jewish perspective, how G-d has made wheat and grapes but not bread and wine so that we too can partake in the divine that is creation or how since the Torah was given to us, it is up to us to interpret it as we see fit, how things change with the times, that ultimately it's not his right to judge people and decide what's wright or wrong, how it's an old Jewish tradition to argue with G-d anyway etc.
He drew a line in the sand. Called everything I mentioned "funny" excuses, how we've "got our passes" and that this is the sourse of all our problems and the reason we're "stuck in contradictions and internal strife" how "no one will put everything in order" for us. Perhaps I read it wrong, but considering we're both in Israel right now and with the rising levels of antisemitism worldwide, this didn't read right to me, not at all. I ended up saying "that's it" and muting the chat, depending on what he tries to say next I'm considering blocking him because I can't deal with this. Not wth his awful homophobia nor with the Christian supersessionism (there was also a comment about "our" book of books).

🔹2023 Wrap Up🔹
I've never really done an end of the year type of post, but I got inspired somehow. Maybe because this year has been in many ways slower and filled with rest more than any other year in my life so far (which is a good thing), but I started looking back, wondering if I'd really done "anything" this year, and I can see there's still a decent amount of things I've accomplished that are meaningful to me. So, this is almost diary type self-reflection. But I'll post it because I would like to see other people do this type of thing too. ✨
This is mostly work and hobbies related.
Original writing published
Rummuttaja (Drummer)
Tumblr media
My third published novel and the first book in my first fantasy series. I'll talk about it more in its own post but it's about an island where people can control earthquakes with music, and musically gifted children are brought up as heroes to be. I spent about half of 2023 editing this book and I'm probably more proud of it than anything else I've published.
Sydäntekniikkaa (Heart Techniques)
A short story, or a novella, with a spin on the innocent girl meets heartless boy trope. Discusses politics, environment, prejudice, ignorance and disability in a fantastical setting. It was published in a steampunk anthology Rautasilmä ja muita steampunk-kertomuksia (Iron eye and other steampunk stories) with three other stories. Here's a drawing of my main character.
A book review I wrote on Sankareita ja shakkinappuloita (Heroes and chess pieces) by Heidi Torn, appeared in a Finnish SFF magazine Kosmoskynä. I very rarely make time to help with this magazine I've subscribed to for many years, so I'm glad I did. The book was about Greek gods in modern day Finland, so as a Percy Jackson fan I was obviously intrigued.
Original works written
2023 wasn't the most active writing year since I spent so much time editing, but I managed to write
about a half of a fantastical murder mystery in a ballet school told from the perspective of seven students with very different views on the school and the people in it
a short story about a magical doll maker student attempting to manipulate another guy to be less full of himself
Editing work
I've just started as one of three editors for a magic school story anthology. It is my first time so I'm learning from the other two who are more experienced and actually have their university degrees in Finnish language which I don't. I was asked along as more of the magic school expert since most of my published work so far is set in them. We are only just starting to go through the submissions since the deadline was the end of the year, so I haven't done much yet but I really love helping other people make the most of their writing, so I'm very excited. ✨
Fan fiction
Tumblr media
Words published: 225 239
Words written: 263 315
Not including a few 100 word drabbles, and fake chats which are actually from past fics anyway just in visual form.
My fics were mostly KagaKuro, as they usually are, but I also wrote one AoMomo. My plans for 2024 have more diverse focus characters, though!
Illustration/Graphic design
I got more work for cover design than before this year. I'm still such a newbie on this, but I'm fairly happy with many of them, and I've discovered such passion for this art. Only writing books is more satisfying than getting to be the one to bring out the book's core in a visual form. And some of the authors have really loved the covers and felt like I got them, which of course feels amazing. I always wanted to do my own covers but now that I get to do other people's too I just want to do it more and more.
Tumblr media
Drawings/Paintings
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was definitely a KnB heavy year! Which I enjoyed a lot. I didn't do that many original things but I was really happy to get back to traditional art after several years now that I think my digital art skills have improved to pretty much the same level.
Comics
I didn't really complete anything but in June I got about half way through this KagaKuro comic (with female Kuroko) based on my own fic Kuroko's Fairytale.
This is definitely one of the things I want to finish the most in 2024! I felt so high drawing it. It was such a strange experience because female Kuroko was not supposed to be a thing for me... (it was supposed to be just one funky fic that happens in a dream, never to be revisited again, because my brain is so much work it beats itself up about even the most minuscule changes I might like to make on existing characters, like, my brain just has no chill about fiction, everything is death serious, it's fucking annoying even to me) But. BUT. B U T. When I was drawing this comic. Oh. My. God. I have no words for how good it felt. Like, I obviously knew you can experience love on behalf of fictional characters (hello, shipping) but I had never before experienced gender euphoria on behalf of a fictional character. There's no other way to describe it, girl Kuroko absolutely destroyed me in the best of ways. So she's here to stay, I can't push her back anymore.
Anyway, have a sneak peek. I still struggle a lot with consistent anatomy as I have my whole life, but there are a few frames I love already, my favourite probably being the one which is also my icon.
Tumblr media
Not that I'm not also in love with stupid prince Kagami, but I was never fighting that so it's a little different.
Books read
Not an especially good reading year in quantity. In quality it was, though. I don't think there was one book that I disliked. My problem these days is that every time I try to take time to read a book, about a half an hour into it my brain goes like... You know what? You could be working on your own writing. But it's also very important for a writer to read, so I have to retrain my brain to stop feeling like it's wasting time when I read.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Total: 29 (or 35 if you count KnB as two volumes each since it's double edition)
New books: 17
Rereads: 12(/18)
Several of these are books I did covers for, and I started a KnB reread to check for ideas I haven't covered in my fics yet, so if you take these "business" reads out of the equation, I didn't read that much for just pleasure. That's something I want to improve in 2024.
The most memorable book was probably The Song of Achilles (a damn difficult read since I saw so many of my own relationships patterns in Patroclus to a painful detail, ugh. And yeah Achilles definitely reminded me of some specific people too. Kind of destroyed all my blissful surrealist separation with this story and made me disillusioned with it, but in the end it might have been good for me).
Fics read
Ok, this is downright shameful to me. I read so little. But go give some love to these fics I've read which were obviously made with love.
Reap What You Sow (one-sided (??) AoMomo) by @vespersposts
summer drabble (Kagami) by cempasuchil_03
Noodle Kiss (KagaKuro) by @myndless88
The Art of Self-Pillage (Haizaki, OC) by @lylakoi
Let's Have a War (Kise, Kasamatsu, OC) by @lylakoi
Tastes of Cinnamon (KagaKuro) by @lilypheria
Nail art
A new hobby for me! I hadn't even owned nail polish before. And couldn't stand long nails either. I have no clue what inspired this, to be honest. I'm very new to it, but here are my favourites.
Tumblr media
The text print on blue nails was definitely the most me, but I think I particularly enjoy prints in general. I made the star ones for Christmas.
I bet I've forgotten something obvious but this post is pretty long already and it looks like a pretty good summary. Definitely helped me sort out my thoughts on what I want to do in 2024 and what priorities I should have.
Good luck to everyone on all your future plans. ✨💙

Challengers is going to be such a stepping stone for Z. Like both Mike and Josh are unknown actors ngl so the pressure is on for her marketability international to sell seats. My production is the film is going to make 400 million. What do you think? Also, what are your opinions, especially after taraj p henson's outcry about black actresses not getting lead roles and studios' opinions that black lead films do not sell well outside a franchise. The last black actor I could thibkvof that had that universal appeal was Will Smith.
Yes! I'm excited Anon!! 😊
FINALLY!! A film led on her own on the big screen. 😁🙌🏾 I'm actually glad that Z went the more gradual route and honed her acting talent for years on TV (with Euphoria) and doing several smaller parts as a costar on the big screen in large films before tackling a huge film on her own where she's the lead.
I think that was very smart and strategic imo.
As far as box office numbers? Ooof....I honestly don't know girl lol. I'm the worst person to predict that.... Especially since it's not often that we see a woc in a role like this opposite TWO white men lol 😆
Roles like this USUALLY go to white girls, so I'm honestly not sure what the box office numbers will do tbh. 🤷🏾‍♀️ But Z has a HUGE fanbase, so I def don't think it will be a "flop".
That film "Anyone But You" seems to be getting butts in the theaters (at least, around my area 👀), and Sydney and Glen are not huge box office draws on their own. I think people just like the plot premise and want a light hearted rom-com. 🤷🏾‍♀️
I can see similar audiences being interested in "Challengers" as well, especially if they market the film right.
Re: Taraji....
I def think Taraji was speaking TRUTH. Hands down. There is a lot of inequality in Hollywood.
On one hand, YES, I DO think that some black films DO have a hard time getting worldwide appeal just simply due to racism factors, and society in general. Another issue too though is that a lot of Hollywood studios just don't spend the same kind of money on Black actors and Black films when it comes time for promotion, sooo how are Black films supposed to do well overseas when you're barely sending them overseas to promote, and are barely spending money to generate hype for the films??
Tumblr media
Yes, Will Smith had crossover appeal, Denzel had/has crossover appeal, etc... But one of the reasons why Will has crossover appeal is because look at the types of films he's been doing in his career. For many years he was in large films that had a diverse cast that would have gotten a lot of attention and promotion anyway. Plus, he's charismatic asl! Say what you want about Will Smith, but it's undeniable that he has a charm and an energy about him that's larger than life. Def "movie star" energy. That also helped his worldwide appeal.
This is a very deep question Anon, because on the other hand, I honestly don't think that Black films CAN'T do well overseas/worldwide (look at "Black Panther" and "Get Out" for example).
But I def feel like it depends on many various factors....
The film genre
The cast
The money to back up promotion
The plot of the film
HOW the film is marketed
One of my biggest issues sometimes with HW is that they've made films with a predom. Black cast into a term called "Black Films", as if they should be a genre in their own right, when in reality, they're just FILMS that just so happen to have a predominantly Black cast, and should just be treated like any other film out here imo. 🤷🏾‍♀️
There shouldn't be one way to market one film with a certain race of cast members, and a separate way to market films with another set of cast members. 🤔
Another gripe is that a lot of films that are catered to us usually focus on struggle, racism, slavery, etc.... and while there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with films like that, sometimes it's nice to see a predom. Black cast in a film in a genre like adventure, fantasy, sci-fi, light-hearted rom-com, horror, ROMANCE, thriller, action, etc. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Not all of us (even as Black people) want to see struggle in the screen all the time. Many people go to the movies to ESCAPE.... not to be reminded of how awful life is lol. 😅
I def feel like well-written, well-acted, and well-promoted films can do pretty well regardless of the cast demographics.
That's one thing I've been appreciating about A24.... They've been taking risks, and things have worked out pretty well for them. I look at films like "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once", and "Moonlight" for example. Both smaller, indie films, but both had Oscar appeal and won Academy Awards for Best Picture.
So, films with a Predominantly Black cast CAN succeed, even worldwide, I just think that there are a lot of factors that have to be in place, and one additional factor is people of other races needing to be more OPEN-minded and willing to watch more films with predom. Black actors.
Jmho 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

OH MY GOD NIC I NEED THAT MONSTER!READER X LEON FIC SO BAD!!! LIKE??? I'M CONCERNED YOU'RE SPYING ON ME ATP BC YOU ALWAYS SOMEHOW COME UP WITH EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO READ!!!
I really wonder what kind of monster you mean. Vampires are my personal favorite thing to write for monsterfucking, followed by werewolves. But like!!! There's so many options!!! Fae? Merpeople? Just plain old undefined monsters? I can't wait!!!
And this is not at all to hurry you up, I'm just expressing my excitement bc I appreciate you and your writing very much <33 I know whatever it is and whenever it comes out it'll be great <33
Any hints you're willing to drop about what the fic is about? >:3
Sending lots of love and kisses MWAH!! 😚💋🩷
-🌑
Heyyy new moon anon, hope you're doing well!! Sending you love and kisses as well! 🫶
I'm glad my random idea of Leon x monster!reader sparked your interest lol. I have no idea where I'm even going with my idea but I'll go ahead and give you some hints as to where my thought process is going.
So, I know I don't want to do the well-known occults like vampires, mermaids, sirens, etc. I think those are overplayed, even though I personally am a huge fan of vampires, I've just seen enough scenarios involving them that I want to do something different. This doesn't mean I won't consider them in the future by the way, I just don't want to do them right now. I like werewolves too but it would remind me too much of the omegaverse and personally that's a cringe phase I have outgrown so I don't want to revisit that LMAOO.
I wanted to do actual monsters, and I was leaning more toward a plagas reader who's completely mutated like the Verdugo (love their design) or a lycan reader. I want the reader to have claws and a tail and sharp teeth and bright eyes and shit. If I write this fic, I'd want it to be more gory, leaning more towards dark-ish content but not too violent or distasteful. I know the lycan reader is a bit more far-fetched because that's more of a RE8 thing given the context of the game, but I would still consider that "monster" as an option. I was also looking at monster-like beings instead, like pyramid head but I'm not too sure so I'd have to do more research and planning.
A fic like this would probably involve a mission gone wrong where the reader gets hurt and contracts whatever illness or virus is needed to cause this mutation. They'll become a monster, deformed but still carry that personality Leon loves. He'll find himself conflicted on what to do, on why he still has this attraction despite the underlying fear. He should feel sick, should feel ashamed that he'd still even look at you that way when you obviously don't look or act like yourself anymore. Still, he just can't help himself and it's a very primal feeling on your end where you just want to sink your teeth into him. Horror and arousal are two opposite sides of the same coin, so the fic would embody that to the best of my ability.
Hopefully, someday I will write something like that cause I actually think it would be fun and a challenge for me, also adds more diversity to my current work and plans. If it really is something people want to see, I'll add it to the WIPs list and revisit it when I fully want to flesh it out!

Once you get this, you have to say five things you like about yourself, publicly. Then you have to send this to ten of your favorite followers 🖤
HEEHEHE oki!!
I like the way I worldbuild!! I've only talked to @/s0yuzsauce about my stories in their entirety, but I take so much pride in them! Honestly asking anything about my OCs and their customs or towns and I'm sure to be able to blabber about them!
I like my place on the internet rn! It sounds a little odd but I used to be very worried about popularity on the internet a few years back. This was mostly due to being surrounded by people who made it too much of a big deal, but right now I'm very happy being able to take it slow and interact with people at my own pace. I feel very blessed to have good friends here (incl. you!) and be able to yap on and on about my interests without feeling like I have to compete! I'm at peace with where I am and I'm glad I didn't let all of that stuff get to my head entirely.
I like my willingness to try new things all the time! I always love new opportunities to do something new. I don't get too bored very easily because I can just fill my head with thinking about stories or worldbuilding, but doing new things, tasting new food, cooking new recipes, going to places, learning new languages and skills...these are all exciting to me!
I like my hair! Right now it's a bit short since I shaved for fun sometime back but I KNOW I look good with any length of hair. Sometimes I bleach it and dye it fun colours and it boosts my confidence more! Lately I've been keeping it natural just to see how my growth is like when uninterrupted. I also love my body hair! My thick brows too. My country's beauty standards prefer people to not be so hairy, but I don't care! I walk out there like a full on werewolf and I FEEL great! I hope I can grow out a beard soon though to complete the look ahahaha
Lastly, I like having a very diverse music taste! I cannot limit myself to few genres - i can't think about genres even at all! I'll happily listen to anything and I don't understand people who look down on certain music just cause it's uncool or mainstream or whatever. My playlist will consist of vocaloid, billboard hits, pirate metal, baltic folk, rap, broadway, eurobeats, horror game osts, oldies, hyperpop... literally everything! I also love compiling playlists! I will gladly make playlists for any vibe I want and even about my OCs and stories!

(small preview of all the playlists i cannot stop making)
I'm a little too shy to send this to my followers, so uhhhhh BOOP I TAG ANYONE WHO READS THIS FEEL FREE 2 BANDWAGGIN

Can I make request on a story about what macey said on the epilogue about the goats and zach parachute on an active volcano tysm tysm ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Alright here's the first of the trifecta: Macey POV
Macey had been a lot of lonely places before the Gallagher Academy. And out of all the exclusive places she had been allowed inside of, being part of Cammie, Bex, and Liz's friend group was the best. No parties with diplomats or foreign palaces came close. Being in on all their jokes was like having the family she always wanted. Plus, Macey couldn’t imagine having to decipher the rumor mill when things picked up junior and senior year. Being part of Cammie’s missions was the best, and only, way to know the truth. It was part of why it was so hard when Cammie ran away.
Yes, Macey had been a lot of lonely places, but she’s never been on the outside of her friends lives.
Graduation changed that. Going into the field changed that. For the first time since Cammie’s disappearing act all anyone ‘knew’ about Cammie’s missions were rumors. Macey hadn’t realized how accustom she had gotten to not relying sources like Tina Walters for information on her best friends.
To put it bluntly, it sucked.
Information still made its way through the channels, but just because it was highly trained operatives playing telephone didn’t make it less of a game of telephone. And who would Macey be if she didn’t try to get to the bottom of the rumors. And it helped to have the best sources.
"Hey, Mace," a voice greeted.
Macey almost dropped everything she was holding as she looked up excitedly. "Abby!"
The older woman smiled at her. "Glad I caught you. You're heading back to Gallagher next week aren't you?"
Macey nodded. "Are you not?" she asked, not liking the implication.
"I should be, but you'll probably beat me there," she replied. "I'm glad I got to see you before hand, though. It's been so long."
"Definitely. Have you seen Cammie?"
Abby shook her head. "Not since before Istanbul." Macey cocked her head to the side, brow furrowing in confusion. "You heard about Istanbul, right? Cammie and Zach's last assignment." When the younger girl shook her head Abby's eyes got wide like she was excited to get to share the news. "Oh my god, wait until you hear about it. What are you doing right now? Let's walk." And just like that, Abby linked her arm through Macey's like they were old friends rather than her former charge. It's why Macey liked her so much, Abby was one of few adults who didn't talk down to her.
"Okay, so, you didn't hear this from me, but it was really just supposed to be a routine op, but,"
"But nothing is ever routine with those two." Macey filled in.
"You know, I don't think it helps that they report to Edward," Abby said. "They live to torment him. Zach especially."
"I'm sure that's been great bonding for you and Zach. Comparing notes."
Abby wiggled her eyebrows in a knowing way, earning her a giggle from Macey. "But really it was a weapons thing- or was it drugs- either way it was going really well until someone stuck their nose in where it didn't belong. Luckily Cammie and Zach are both quick on their feet and the goats were right there-,"
"I'm sorry, did you say goats?" Macey stopped.
"Yes! Goats make for a great diversion. Matt and I pulled off a mission once that was only saved by his ranch experience and two very temperamental goats," Abby recounted, excitedly. "But that doesn't hold a candle to what these two did."
Macey raised an eyebrow expectantly, earning another grin from Abby. "Six car pile up, managed to stall for two hours and forty six minutes, which was more than enough time for Zach to get in, out, and back without anyone noticing.”
Macey nearly stopped short. “You said Zach got in and out? So the one who did everything with the goats was Cammie?”
Abby nodded. “She really is her fathers daughter.”
“What?” Macey asked incredulously. “How?”
Abby laughed. “You’ll really have to ask her. And while you’re at it ask her about Zach parachuting onto that active volcano.”
“What?”
Abby grinned. “Oh, you’re gonna love this one.”

Weekly Writing and Reading Update
Hello, being sick sucks!! So bad! I had a great time visiting my family and meeting my baby nephew, did not enjoy the germs I picked up on the way home.
(Technically today was the last day of isolation, but I am still testing positive and also while I feel VASTLY better I still don't wish to, like, actually go anywhere or do anything. I find tidying up very comforting, though, and I'm pleased I can do light chores again instead of just keeping myself and the cats alive.)
At least I got in binging the entirety of Lower Decks? I never binge-watch tv, but it is good to be back in the warm embrace of Star Trek, so to speak.
Writing
I'm also really happy that I'm well enough to write again! Mostly easy stuff, but I will probably have a lot of time on my hands, not just with the holiday but with not particularly wanting or being able to do jackshit else.
at the back of the holy temple, a duet for two voices - I have got a start on the next chapter, but as you can imagine this story takes a fair bit of thought and care so it will likely be another week to post the next chapter, my apologies! (I also owe...a lot of replies to comments, sorry!)
Miss Fell and Miss Crowley Go On Holiday I'm sure everyone remembers this extremely niche AU that was last updated in November of 2021. Anyway, I read it while I was travelling and really fell in love with it again and I'm slowly picking it back up! Never give up hope, folks! Whumptober 2023 - my FIFTH year of doing it!! I've already finished a few prompts, and it's as much fun as ever (and, needless to say, has already birthed a new AU I'm excited to write 60k-120k words about). I am hoping for my best year yet <3
Reading
ugh, I really miss being able to focus enough to read, hoping for that to come back soon :/ But before My Illness, I finished: Our Wives Under the Sea -- a friend said this was the best book she'd read all summer, and I think it's up there for me. It's haunting and weird and beautiful and sad and I loved it very much.
Painted Pomegranates and Needlepoint Rabbis: How Jews Craft Resilience and Create Community - hah, I just realized this was a gift from the friend who made the Our Wives rec! I've got a little theme of reading about how craft creates meaning in various communities/subcommunities, and this fits right in. It's definitely an academic text, but I found it extremely accessible. It doesn't present a very diverse portrait of Judaism -- which the author absolutely admits to and apologizes for -- but for what it is, it's a very interesting and valuable text, and I'm glad I read it and it's part of my collection now.

Remember in Episode 1 of Sonic Prime when Sonic tells Nine, "When all's said and done, there's no better reward than sharing a chili dog with your best pal?"

Prompt: In New Yoke City, Sonic and Nine go into in a restaurant. They both order chili dogs, and chat with each other as they eat. It's a very heartwarming scene!
I don’t think there’d be a restaurant in New Yoke City, much less chilli dogs.
BUT! I raise you: after everything is done, Nine figures out how to visit Sonic whenever he wants. Nine brings up what Sonic had said, and Sonic agrees to take him. He invites Tails, but Tails declines at first, saying he has a lot of work to do. Sonic gets grumpy because Tails is really bad at taking breaks. He also mentions “hey there’s one of the alternate you’s here too, that’s why I’m going. Suddenly, Tails is interested.
The 3 of them go to a restaurant and order chilli dogs.
“Have you ever had a chilli dog?” Sonic asks. Nine shakes his head “I haven’t. The food in new yoke city was usually pretty bland. We’re working on creating a more diverse food culture now, though!”
Tails kicks his feet in excitement “what’s it like in new yoke city?”
Nine grins “oh it used to be a big city but we’ve been tearing everything down. There’s so many new parts for my creations!”
Tails laughs “Sonic in a city? He doesn’t do cities!”
Sonic nods “yea, normally I try to escape them.”
CHILLI DOGS HAVE ARRIVED!
Nine cautiously takes his first bite. His eyes light up. It’s like his taste buds are dancing. Sonic laughs “good, riiiight?” Nine nods swiftly and continues to scarf down his food.
Tails finds this incredibly entertaining. Sonic is just glad to see him happy. Ever since the Chaos Council was defeated and change started to happen, Nine was becoming a much happier child!
"whats happened since i left?" Sonic asks.
Nine swallows whats in his mouth "i live with Rebel and Knucks now. Rebel keeps joking about me being their kid… at least I think its a joke?"
"Rebel and Knucks are Rouge and Knuckles right?" Asks Tails
"yep!"
"wait wait wait, hold on," Sonic pauses eating and holds up his finger "are they a thing?? like, are they a couple?"
Nine shrugs "i have no idea. I asked and they never really answered me. They look at each other."
Tails snorts "sounds bout right!"
“Hey, Nine? I’m happy for you. There’s a sparkle to your eyes now!” Sonic is just. So proud of him.
“Well, it’s mostly thanks to you. If you hadn’t turned up, I’d still be angry and revenge driven. You showed me the light.” Nine smiles shyly.
Sonic gives him a soft look “hey, remember you did most of that yourself. All I did was break into your house and scare you half to death! I’m proud of you, kid.”
Nine lights up “y-you are?”
Sonic nods “I am!”
Nine brushes away his tears. Then fails and cries a little while Sonic panics. This has made Nine so happy.
Its a lovely evening. Sonic and Tails hope that one day, Nine will visit them again.
