i absolutely eat it UP that one of the reasons wwx is so hesitant to believe lwj has feelings for him is that he can't tell if lwj treats him with so much goodness and kindness because he's simply that good of a person or if there's ~something more to it~

and!! here's what gets me: he's 100% right to question that. because from all we know, lan wangji would still have protected and done everything he did even if he wasn't in love with wwx. it all comes down to his beliefs, and standing up to them by protecting him. wwx is afraid to jump to conclusions because his fears are genuinely very well based!

You know what? I think people forget that Wen Qing is realistically probably in her early to mid twenties at the start of the sunshot campaign.

Like I see a lot of people make her Wei Wuxian’s age or just one to two years older, but she’s a seasoned doctor running a supervisory camp and she calls Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian brats and bosses Wen Ning around and suddenly this all makes a lot more sense to me if she’s actually twenty five at the time and they’re seventeen.

It certainly gives her the time to build up the reputation and skill set that she has in canon without begging the question of how she’s had the time to train as a cultivator and a doctor and deal with Wen Ruohan on top of it.

The man is a god in purple robes, and the hare, who goes by Lan Xichen, apparently also supernatural as it transforms into another tall man at his side. Wei Wuxian is shocked to find that Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji not only know each other, but are brothers. It seems that the god suspects they are plotting something.

With a wave of his hand, the god casts a spell that replaces the space suits with period clothing, to the amazement of Wei Wuxian. As Lan Xichen talks on and on, Wei Wuxian feels that there is something familiar about the god (surname Jiang)...in a sudden spark of recognition he calls him A-Cheng. The god is silent for an unnerving amount of time, and the Lan brothers look on in apprehension. Just as Wei Wuxian is about to backtrack, A-Cheng turns and says casually that Wei Wuxian can call him whatever.

Jiang Cheng takes Wei Wuxian on a tour of the moon palace. Wei Wuxian treats it like a date. They end up on the lake surrounded by glowing golden lotus flowers, a lotus in Jiang Cheng's hair picked by Wei Wuxian, drinking wine. Wei Wuxian is happy with how the date is progressing.

Fic idea: Jiang Cheng experiencing Ground Hog Day from the CQL nightless city episode, and having to relive it until yanli and Wei wuxian both live and then also finally waking up the Next day with the trauma of watching his siblings die hundreds of time.

Just him having A Time of it.

I have had this on my "things I wanna write at some point" brainstorming doc for literal years, anon (though I know well there's at least one other fic with at least the time loop part of this premise). the only problem is that said brainstorming doc is about five pages long.

however the part of this that is really fun for me is definitely the part about where everybody is afterwards! cause it's not like Wei Wuxian is probably doing so hot either (depend'ing on where our time cutoff is, may still be at least 60% suicidal and definitely 100% homicidal), and Jiang Yanli is still grieving her husband, and here Jiang Cheng is like "as far as these two know I should be more functional than anybody else but turns out" and trying fairly unsuccessfully to do a Wei Wuxian "everything is fine and if I insist as much it will definitely become so."

Just three massively traumatized peas in a blanket! Love it, love them, hope they all break down crying on each other.

I see why people give him the Lonely alignment because of the whole detachment/sheltered thing he has going on #but! Think of the whole consumed by love thing! #(yes I did post him at the Archives because one of his main things apart from running after wwx does happen to be looking after the library #pre timeskip. No I don't think that the Eye makes sense for him as a character.... However the eye freaks most people out in tma due to the #whole being watched business. However I needed a starting point so I kept the Lans as the archives #for now. It might change later. If this is how people think a morally correct character should be, we will never have any interesting, nuance and complex morally correct or morally good characters. Demanding morally correct character to *always find a way to do the right thing *the right way in the moment (Like how do we define "the right way" to do sth in certain situations) will limit so many creative choices for morally good characters, especially when creating dilemmas and resolutions for morally correct character. A morally character that has zero low points and always do the right thing in the right way in every situation would slowly become more an ideal rather than a character.

Good people, or in this case, morally good characters should be allowed to have low points and commit morally questionable deeds, especially in the extreme circumstances. Human or humanized characters can act irrationally and make choices that sometimes go agaisnt their morals unconsciously in desperate moments. What make them different from those morally grey characters and villains is that after those mistakes happen, morally good characters would never make excuses for themselves, even when they lost controls, never make those terrible deeds again even if they could bring good outcomes, and willing to do everything to redeem themselves, even face the consequences that would cost them everything.

For instance, a morally grey characters after commiting a questionable deed will be like "this is for our own good. There is no other way. We would have lost if we... ", while a morally good characters will be like "Am I doing the right thing? Is this the only choice I have? Or there are better options that I haven't even bothered to find? Am I going too far? I feel regret for this deed as I believe I would have done better than this".

The point of morally correct character is not just simply "always doing the right things in every circumstance", because that is unrealistic as fuck. The point of morally correct character is aiming to do the right things while dealing with temptations and hardships that would lead them to falter from their morals and principles and make wrong choices. But in the end, the character still choose to maintain their moral standards, and continue to do the deeds that align with their morals as best as they can.

Morally correct character doesn't need to have character development to be better person to be interesting and complex. They can be static with their moral values and virtues, but it is how these characters navigate through circumstances and challenges with their moral values guiding them to make decisions and choices that results in different outcomes, both bad and good.
