Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The man is a god in purple robes, and the hare, who goes by Lan Xichen, apparently also supernatural as it transforms into another tall man at his side. Wei Wuxian is shocked to find that Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji not only know each other, but are brothers. It seems that the god suspects they are plotting something.
With a wave of his hand, the god casts a spell that replaces the space suits with period clothing, to the amazement of Wei Wuxian. As Lan Xichen talks on and on, Wei Wuxian feels that there is something familiar about the god (surname Jiang)...in a sudden spark of recognition he calls him A-Cheng. The god is silent for an unnerving amount of time, and the Lan brothers look on in apprehension. Just as Wei Wuxian is about to backtrack, A-Cheng turns and says casually that Wei Wuxian can call him whatever.
Jiang Cheng takes Wei Wuxian on a tour of the moon palace. Wei Wuxian treats it like a date. They end up on the lake surrounded by glowing golden lotus flowers, a lotus in Jiang Cheng's hair picked by Wei Wuxian, drinking wine. Wei Wuxian is happy with how the date is progressing.

fics where lan yuan is still like a toddler!! or even an infant!!!
💖 The Simplest Way Forward by harriet_vane (E, 71k, wangxian, modern, accidental baby acquisition, slow burn, pining)
box your errors by mellowflicker (T, 42k, WangXian, Modern AU, single dad lwj, Domestic Fluff, Family Issues, Slow Burn, Kid Fic, let lwj have friends agenda, Hurt/Comfort, Pining)
🔒 so take my hand (take my whole life too) by cicer (E, 92k, wangxian, Modern, Accidental Baby Acquisition, oh my god they were roommates, Idiots in Love, Mutual Pining, Implied/Referenced Drug Addiction, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, this fic is not about trauma, it's about the yearning, slowburn, some characters have a pretty strong bias against folks with drug addiction, (this does not reflect the author's opinion of people with addiction disorders!), none of the really grim abuse/drug use affects our main characters, and it takes place offscreen)
The stuffed bunny, the beautiful nephew, and other gifts from Lan Qiren by deliciousblizzardshark (G, 8k, LQR & WWX, wangxian, Modern, Single Parent WWX, Good Uncle LQR, Accidental Uncle Acquisition, Found Family, Fluff)

all the bonds of nature by Anonymous (E, 68k, wangxian, MXY & WWX, MXY & LWJ & WWX, WIP, Modern with Magic, Romantic Comedy, Roommates to lovers, Pining LWJ, Pining, LWJ falls in love in roughly fifteen seconds, he's a mess what can i say, Necromancy, ethical necromancer WWX, Music Teacher LWJ, Fluff and Smut, a lot of meditation on the bullshit of being a public school teacher, musings on the nature of personal property and land ownership as one is wont to do, Ghosts, Urban Fantasy, Low Fantasy, wangxian are extremely weirdo4weirdo in this, Light Angst, Anal Sex, Oral Sex, Rimming, Felching, Light Bondage, Virginity Roleplay, (just a little. wwx is not good at playing the virgin), Kink Negotiation, Praise Kink, BDSM, Developing Relationship, Dominant LWJ)

5. Hi! 🤗
This one is for ITMF. I'd like to read new fics about WWX having a new golden core. No mordern fics or dark ones, please, I'm not in the mood 🙏. I want happy endings!
Thanks again! You make my days much better!!
🥰✨ @wangxiansgirl
The Core Issue by Hauntcats (T, 21k, wangxian, WQ & WWX & WN, NHS & WWX & NMJ, canon divergence, golden core rebuilding, golden core tied to soul, angst w/ happy ending, not JC friendly) WWX meditates a golden core back
when you’re doing all the leaving (then it’s never your love lost) by tardigradeschool (T, 26k, WangXian, Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Canon Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Sharing a Bed, Sharing Clothes, Fix-It, the inherent eroticism of under robes, Golden Core Transfer) LWJ gives WWX a part of his own core
🧡 a stone to break your soul, a song to save it by rikke ( M, 180k, WangXian, Arranged marriage, Canon Divergence, Hurt/comfort, Light angst, Canon typical violence) Technically not a new golden core, but a new core of a different type
The Fire Lapping Up the Creek by notevenyou (E, 66k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Hurt/Comfort, Canon-Typical Violence, Injury, Injury Recovery, Blood, Respiratory Illness, Major Illness, Fever, Grief/Mourning, Burial Mounds, Angst with a Happy Ending, Implied/Referenced Suicide, Hunger and food scarcity, Surgery, Fix-It of Sorts) WWX gets part of someone else's core transplanted into him
Ghosts Shouldn’t by ShanaStoryteller (Not Rated, 15k, WangXian, Grief/Mourning, Canon Divergence, Angst with a Happy Ending)
Righteous at a Cost by thunderwear (G, 21k, wangxian, LQR & WWX, Canon Divergence, Fix-It, no one dies, LQR finds out about WWX's core, WWX and LQR are friends??, In My Fic?, its more likely than you think, LWJ in the bg like whats happening?, Fluff, WWX goes to Gusu, Mutual Pining, Golden Core Reveal)
Can't Tell Me Nothin by natacup82 (T, 35k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, Everybody Lives, Family Feels, Communication, BAMF Women)
🔒Away from Trouble by Ilona22 (M, 15k, wangxian, Alternate Universe, Not JC Friendly, WangXian Get a Happy Ending) This is one of my personal favorites, for the growth wwx goes through and what he accomplishes separate from the sects while regrowing a new core for himself. (However, the author doesn’t spend enough time on wangxian romance for it to not just feel like something they tacked on to fill that required box, so don’t go in expecting good wangxian)
What Is Left Over by Loriqod (T, 30k, wangxian, JC & WWX, Yunmeng Shuangjie, Yunmeng brothers, Post-Canon Fix-It, WWX Has a New Golden Core, Happy Ending, WangXian in Love, SO SO SO IN LOVE, bite-sized angst, Canon-Typical Violence, JC & WWX Reconciliation, Training Montage) This one’s WWX redeveloping a core in MXY’s body. It might not be quite what you had in mind, but give it a chance, this fic is ALL about him actually cultivating with the idea of making a new core, & it’s rare to find a fic with that focus. (Even amongst fics that are suppose to be all about that(for some reason people are allergic to showing WWX actually cultivate))
I’m Sorry & Thank You by Iamnotawriter (T, 12k, wangxian, post-canon, Canon Compliant, Golden Core, Canon-Typical Violence, LQR’s epipheny, Angst with a Happy Ending)
Bitter Plants Bearing Sweet Fruit by Kryal (T, 83k, wangxian, canon-typical horror elements, Worldbuilding, Desert, Misuse of Historic Setting, Original Character Death(s), Case Fic, aftermath of canon, Established Relationship, Nothing Explicit But Shameless Innuendo)
~*~
6. Alright everyone, give me everything you have where either: (A) WWX is an actual rogue cultivator at the start of the fic, or (B) he leaves the Jiangs (via Madam Yu banishment or getting fed up with them an leaving on his own) and spends time as a rogue cultivator. (I want to see my boy in the wild doing the wild cultivator thing) if he doesn’t have a core at the beginning of the fic, I would appreciate recs where he regains it at some point. I have a Wangxian agenda btw, so WX endgame plz. @omgnectarina
Ad Oblivione by Baph, HikariNoHimeWriter (M, 70k, WangXian, Time Travel Fix-It, Temporary Character Death, Canon-Typical Violence, POV Multiple, Hurt/Comfort, Grief/Mourning, Identity Reveal, Golden Core Reveal, Cultivation World Critical, Not JC Friendly, Abusive YZY, Angst with a Happy Ending) WWX is sent back in time to when he was a child & doesn't get taken in by the Jiangs
We Meet at the Thousandth Step by Admiranda, Rynne (T, 258k, wangxian, CSSR/WCZ, WIP, Canon Divergence, No Sunshot Campaign, CSSR & WCZ Live, Rogue Cultivator WWX, Different First Meeting, Night Hunts, Genius WWX, Inventor WWX, Romance, Drama, Fluff, Strangers to married, Unresolved Sexual Tension, Unresolved Romantic Tension, Everyone Lives AU, Developing Relationship, Minor Violence, Case Fic, Mystery, Flirting, WWX's Canon-Typical Flower Flirting, Arson, There Was Only One Bed, Getting Together, First Kiss, Meeting the Parents, Resolved Sexual Tension, Resolved Romantic Tension, WWX Is a Good Big Brother, New Relationship Bliss, Chinese Mythology & Folklore, Blood and Injury, Yiling siblings)
Cultivating immortality by KizuKatana (E, 230k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, Canon-Typical Violence, Rogue Cultivator WWX, Pining, Mutual Pining, WWX low self-esteem, BAMF WWX, BAMF LWJ, Angst with a Happy Ending, not sure if this qualifies as fix-it but that was my emotional need/intent, Hurt/Comfort, unreliable narrator (wwx's self image is…), sect wars happening, Canon typical darkness, demonic cultivation descriptions in detail, self-indulgent exploration of the creation of demonic cultivation and how it changed WWX, JC and LWJ are reluctant (VERY RELUCTANT) allies, YZY & LQR are made to face up to their faults, JYL is badass (fight me) though not in terms of cultivation strenght, JC gets a chance to redeem himself, Found Family, First Time, novel canon relationship dynamics)
🔒 crying like a fire in the sun by Reverie (cl410) (T, 10k, wangxian, SL/XXC, JC & WWX, BSSR/LY, Runaway WWX, Canon Divergence, Everyone Lives AU, rogue cultivator WWX, Angst, Post Cloud Recesses, Not YZY Friendly, Happy Ending, BSSR is WWX's grandmother instead of grandmaster)
Inchoate by Marinelifeclub (T, 20k, wangxian, Child Abuse, Bad Parent JFM, Bad Parent YZY, Protective LQR, Protective LWJ, Rogue Cultivator WWX, YZY Bashing, JC Bashing, No Golden Core Transfer, Dark JFM)
A Thousand Things by tickertape (M, 108k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, WWX Isn't Adopted by the Jiāngs, Developing Friendships, lots of OCs because I can't help myself and I love them, most of the canon cast make cameos at some point, miscommunication and misunderstandings (they’re idiots your honor), Nightmares, Hurt/Comfort, Panic Attacks, Night Hunts, The Cloud Recesses Rabbits, Cloud Recesses Shenanigans, Slow Burn, like really slow burn, like if it was a bushfire it would take 8 years for it to burn through one (1) forest, the wangxian strangers to obnoxious best friends to obnoxious lovers pipeline, 'shitty cultivation world bureaucracy' is also a running theme, WWXHas a Fear of Dogs)
~*~
7. hello! I was hoping you could recommend fics where wei ying is taken hostage by people who hate lan zhan and lan zhan gets beaten up trying to save him. Maybe kind angsty and emotional? @ivybookworm
~*~
8. hi - for the next itmf, any fics that go on from that haunting almost last scene in the Untamed where LS, WN and LWJ all leave WY alone on the road. angsty ones that explore the idea of WY having no-one would be awesome. thank you so much for all you do! @oldoni
Story-Shaped by lingering_song (T, 13k, NHS & WWX, wangxian, Post-Canon, Chief Cultivator LWJ, Inventor WWX, Found Family, NHS needs a new hobby, And apparently that’s spoiling his Wei-Xiong, Mentioned Character Death, Alcohol, Protective NHS, WangXian Endgame, Not JC Friendly, Not particularly gentry sects friendly overall tbh) NHS finds WWX wandering about. Possibly not as angsty as requester is hoping for, but does address how bad an idea it is to let WWX wander alone
im reminded of a fic but cant recall the one. Wwx is travelling by himself, writing letters to LZ, he stays in a town and it ends up cursed. LZ and the juniors arrive to solve the case. Wwx is acting weird and hides his letters. The juniors read the letters and find out wwx is angry and full of resentment about how he's been treated. They find out the curse resonates from him. They talk it out to resolve matters. Any idea?
some good mistakes by Lise (T, 18k, WangXian, JC & WWX, JC & LWJ, Road Trips, (terrible road trips), Post-Canon, Rescue Missions, Hurt/Comfort, ish, Awkward Conversations, POV JC, JC & WWX Reconciliation, (ish they’re working on it)) link in #13
Rotten Work by ShanaStoryteller (Not Rated, 63k, WangXian, WWX & JL, Post-Canon, Protective WWX, Protective JL, Yunmeng Bros Reconciliation, Reluctant Matchmaker JL) similar to Story Shaped, but it's Jin Ling who finds wwx. // might fit the bill? It isn't overly angsty, but it does have characters remarking on how bad of an idea it is to let WWX go off on his own.
Judge Softly by Chrononautical (E, 32k, wangxian, LSZ & WWX, LQR & WWX, accidental voyeurism, non-consensual mind reading, oblivious WWX, bamf   WWX, genius WWX, post-canon Fix-it, angst w happy ending, LQR tries)
the soft animal of your body by howodd5ever (M, 21k, wangxian, Post-Canon, Getting Together, WWX has feelings about having a body, sort of a case fic, a little bit of epistolary goodness, graphic descriptions of wounds, Feelings About Death, WWX gets seriously injured, quoting chinese poetry at each other as a love language, Art Embedded, wound-tending as an act of love, Bathing/Washing, the mortifying ordeal of being asked to stay, Sharing a Bed, Finding home, WWX's canonical alcohol abuse makes an appearance a bit)
my age has never made me wise by idrilka (E, 63k, wangxian, Post-Canon, Part-epistolary, Mutual Pining, Getting Together, Marriage Proposal, Homecoming, One Brain Cell WWX Strikes Again)
~*~
9. Itmf: what's a story premise/trope that's really hard to do well, and what stories have done them really well?
~*~
10. Itmf, what's ur fav story prompt/initial premise that you've seen, regardless of the execution(s) of it?
~*~
11. thank u for ur hard work! any fic recs of lan zhan hurting wei ying and he regrets it? thankss
Concord by Deastar (T, 41k, WangXian, Arranged Marriage, Gūsū Lán Sect Rules, Depression, Canon Divergence, Angst with a Happy Ending)
我的皇后是農民 | sowing seeds in the cold palace by sweetlolixo (E, 84k, WangXian, Imperial Palace, Emperor LWJ, Imperial Consort WWX, Farmer WWX, Angst, Romance, Wingman LJY, Wife-chasing-LWJ, Arranged Marriage, Best Boy A-Yuan)
Honesty is the Best Policy (Except if You’re an Asshole) by piecrust (E, 22k, wangxian, college/university au, porn w/ feelings)
~*~
12. ITMF like, historical perspectives. Like people in modern times talking about/teaching about/learning about LWG, WWX, and possibly others as historical figures
Historical Precedents for the Concept of Time Travel and Transmigration by meyari (G, 21k, wangxian, Fluff and Crack, dubious academic writing, Historical Research, it's practically its own character in this, vague college setting, Modern, Good YZY, Good Person SS, Reincarnation) It's the second part of a series, the first one takes place in canon era, and the second one is about modern Wei Ying researching about historical Wei Wuxian for his thesis! I recommend reading the first part first (or at least looking at the premise) for much-needed context, and also because it's so good!
DID YILING LAOZU REALLY EXIST???: a Thread [1/?] by el_em_en_oh_pee (G, 6k, wangxian, Academia AU, Social Media, Research, Cartographic Mishaps, HOW IS CARTOGRAPHIC MISHAPS AN ESTALISHED TAG. NO HAPS WERE MISSED HERE I ASSURE U, Folklore, LJY's Hot Takes, Procrastinating Your Dissertation Proposal By Writing A 104-Tweet Thread: The Lan Jingyi Story, Mixed Media, POV Outsider, this is kind of an AU - Modern and kind of not???, it's a modern academic/researchy exploration of canon lol) it's AMAZING
For 12, there's also the one where Wangxian are majoring in cultivation in University and there's a talk about the meaning of Hanguang-jun compositions with several one liner "titles" like fried watermelon rinds are terrible or something like that. Can't mine it on my AO3 history but it's there, I know it's there!
🔒 Night of the Living History (an edutainment special!) by Aerlalaith (T, 51k, wangxian, Modern with Magic, Workplace Relationship, Fluff and Humor, Museums, living history, the author's feelings about, the edutainment industry, museum workers, Some Plot, Slice of Life, Injury, a minor haunting, the stakes are low, unless you're on the museum board i guess, WWX does not get an employee discount)
~*~
13. Hi! For the next ITMF, could anyone recommend wangxian fics that also feature LWJ & JC not getting along/being hostile toward each other? I'm talking like anything from them having disagreements to physically fighting to just outright hating each other.
Untitled tumblr fic where LWJ punches JC in the face (sharing my reblog as writer seems to have deleted their blog & I can't find it on their Ao3)
the only way out by cafecliche (T, 12k, wangxian, JC & WWX, JC & LWJ, Post-Canon, this is one part character study, one part comedy of errors, and one part fix-it, WWX is a people pleaser in this essay I will, my event planning experience rearing its head again, Podfic Available)
Wei Wuxian’s Kidnapping Back and Forth Farce (Starring Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji) by misscam (M, 5k, wangxian, JC & WWX, Humor, Switching)
some good mistakes by Lise (T, 18k, WangXian, JC & WWX, JC & LWJ, Road Trips, (terrible road trips), Post-Canon, Rescue Missions, Hurt/Comfort, ish, Awkward Conversations, POV JC, JC & WWX Reconciliation, (ish they’re working on it)) should be noted that the Wangxian is background and the primary focus is on LWJ and Jiang Cheng having lots of emotions coming out sideways at each other
~*~
14. Hey, guys. Hope you're having a great day. ITMF some Wen Ning POV/Wen Ning-centric stuff @thispatternismine

15. For the next ITMF, are there any fics where Lan Wangji comes to terms/wrestles with his darker sexual desires?
Come Back to Gusu… by AitchNKay (E, 90k, wangxian, WIP, Major Character Death, Fluff and Smut, Drama & Romance, Angst, Fix-It, Canon Compliant, Anal Sex, BL,, Switching, Bottom LWJ) Currently less than halfway through this one & it's a WIP so not sure how it goes, but has scenes of LWJ worrying about if his desires are too fucked up
💖 Magical Marriage Ribbons Series by starandrea (Varies, 1m, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Accidental Marriage, Fluff, Happy Ending, Telepathic bond, Kink Negotiation, Family Drama, Magical Pregnancy, Dual Cultivation, Shapeshifters, Modern with Magic, Immortality, Yilling Wei Sect) has LWJ continuously struggling to vocalize nearly ANY of his sexual wants even well after wangxian get together
~*~
16. Hi! ITMF your favourite recommendations with LWJ being petty and pouty (maybe bratty too?) - modern AUs and modern with magic are preferred. Thank you <3
Sorry! Just to add on to last ask petty LWJ ITMF ask --> Judgy LWJ reccs please.

The Housewife's Guide to Causing Chaos
by dvasva (@dvasva)
M, WIP, 117k, Wangxian
Summary: “Of all the rotten luck I could have!” Outside, in between the gentle embrace of an imposing misty mountain and the caress of soft wind, stood the Cloud Recesses. It wasn’t a section that Wei Wuxian had recognized from his time in the sect, but the motifs of clouds and cranes in the buildings, the impeccable feng shui and carefully manicured paths, and the utter silence as the sect members slept peacefully, all burned themselves into Wei Wuxian’s eyes. No wonder the curtains were so firmly nailed to the walls! Any bit of demonic energy escaping the room could call down a veritable army of righteous cultivators! What sort of person in their right mind would dare to summon a spirit into their own body using resentful energy in the Cloud Recesses of all places? What kind of person would scoff so rudely at the Lan Clans most important rule, ‘Do not fraternize with evil?’ After being dead for four years, Wei Wuxian wakes up in a body he doesn't really feel comfortable with, in a place that he's sure wants him dead, and married to a man who surely hates him. Kay's comments: Another story that I'm currently following and which always makes me shout in excitement when the notification for an update comes! A story in which Wei Wuxian gets brought back to life way earlier, but a) now he's stuck in a woman's body, b) it's a woman of the Meishan Yu Sect and c) he's married to Lan Wangji. I really love the character developement in this and the life this story gives to background characters and it's always good to see Wangxian reunited and married sooner. Poor Wei Wuxian only has to deal with a dysphoria and transphobia now, but at least the Lans are supportive and help him to the best of their abbilities when it comes to this. I also really love the relationship between Wei Wuxian and Lan Sizhui here - our little radish is a lot younger too after all. Excerpt: “Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji said it so softly, so tenderly. It almost hurt to hear. Wei Wuxian had never heard Lan Wangji’s voice so soft, and yet it felt so familiar and inviting. Any guilt that Wei Wuxian felt for being on the receiving end of such care was whisked away. He wanted to melt right there. Instead, he tensed. “Ah, isn’t interrupting people breaking the rules? How did you guess so fast? I barely made it a single day without someone recognizing me. What gave it away?” He blabbered, fast paced and without a breath. “Listen, Lan Zhan, I’m really not going to do anything bad, I’m not eve-“ Lan Wangji grabbed his hand, and Wei Wuxian stopped in his tracks. It wasn’t a very strong grip. If he wanted to, Wei Wuxian could break free or tug his hand back. Lan Wangji’s hand seemed to tremble as if ready to pull back at any sign of discomfort. But, Wei Wuxian did not move, simply waiting. With no resistance, Lan Wangji turned Wei Wuxian’s hand over so that his palm was up, then placed the jade token on it. With both of his hands, he closed Wei Wuxian’s fingers over the token and pushed it towards Wei Wuxian’s body. “What?” “I will not trap you here.” Lan Wangji stood up. “Please let me attend to your wound.”

@tavina-writes asked for arranged marriage fic recs, which turned into...this. Sorry Tav some of these are just very politically plotty but I figured those also fell into your mandate! I was going for a vibe. ANYWAY.
All fics MZDS/the Untamed!
Also under a read more because this got. Long.
CANON DIVERGENCES
marry for love by tuesday (3k, T, complete)
"Nie Huaisang snapped open his fan and covered his face. "Be careful. I'll take advantage.""
50-50 cute and intrigue!
from the other side of sorrow (series) by Sour_Idealist (128k, E, complete)
"Yu Ziyuan cuts off Wei Wuxian's hand. The cultivation world changes."
I couldn't tell you the split on emotional devastation and intrigue on this one because it's all happening all the time.
CANON? I DON'T KNOW HER
The Other Mountain by nirejseki (287k, T, complete)
"Lan Qiren still couldn’t quite bring himself to believe it.
He was married.
He had a wife.
That wife was Wen Ruohan."
I feel like anyone who likes politically plotty fics is already following nirejseki but I also feel like this list would be incomplete if I left off THE arranged marriage fic of all time so.
""You want Wen Ruohan dead," the Patriarch continued idly. "You want his corpse puppets eliminated. You want his halls burned to the ground and his soldiers disemboweled and begging for mercy. Have I about covered it?"
love, in fire and blood by cicer (360k, E, complete)
He gave another knife-edged smile.
"But what will you give me in return?"
"We would be willing to offer quite a bit in return for Wen Ruohan's defeat," Lan Xichen admitted. "But I'm afraid we don't know what an immortal such as yourself desires. Please advise us."
The Patriarch waved at hand at the front of the tent. "I want Second Young Master Lan.""
¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
not too strong by fluffysocks (89k, E, complete)
"He sinks back, closes his eyes again so he doesn’t have to look at all that red silk for a moment. He takes a deep breath.
It’s done. Jiang Cheng is married.
Now he just has to live with it."
Yes this is a Jiang Cheng/Lan Qiren arranged marriage AU. Trust me. Trust me. It's GOOD STUFF.
Restoration by ritualist (85k, M, complete)
"They say he was thrown into Luanzang Gang by the man who killed his parents; they say that he is an immortal cultivator who had been in a deep trance until the Wen sect disturbed his rest and incurred his wrath; they say that he is the fierce corpse of a cultivator who had somehow regained his mind and his spiritual powers. When Lan Wangji sees him for the first time, he understands why people talk.
Meng Yao wants safety. Xue Yang wants vengeance. The Sunshot Campaign wants victory. Yiling Laozu provides, for a price."
I'm a sucker for a nonlinear narrative! I don't want to know what is happening and no spoilers you won't for most of this fic. In a good way.
Give Me A Chance To Fall by brooklinegirl (38k, E, complete)
"Jiang Cheng just blows his breath out and rolls his eyes right back at Wei Wuxian. "Stop being an asshole," he says. "You're lucky this is being set up for you. Do you know how many people would die--literally die--to get the chance to be betrothed to Lan Wangji?"
"Betrothed." Wei Wuxian rolls the word around in his mouth. "It even sounds stupid.""
The classique arranged marriage AU.
JOKES JOKES JOKES
I Started From The Bottom/ And Now I'm Rich by x_los (58k, E, complete)
"Wen Qing traps Wei Wuxian in the Demon Slaughtering Cave, but Wei Wuxian isn’t interested in being the beneficiary of the Wen Remnants’ noble sacrifice. His efforts to free himself accidentally send him back to the beginning of the Sunshot Campaign. Coreless but armed with demonic cultivation, knowledge of the future and his wits, Wei Wuxian takes advantage of this opportunity to come out on top of both the war and its aftermath—before either has a chance to happen—by marrying and swiftly burying the cultivation world’s worst men.
Lan Wangji is confused, hurt, and uncomfortably aroused by Wei Wuxian’s improbably elaborate series of Sect-themed bridal negligees."
I hesitated to include this fic in this section because it does get pretty dark and psychologically heavy but it is also. Hilarious. So!
Best Friends Forever by varnes (17k, T, complete)
"It happened like this: Jin Ling was a sect leader now, which was, and Jingyi really meant this, fucking hilarious. There were few things funnier, in his honest opinion.
Because he was young, and inexperienced, and also — it had to be said — a real shithead, there was apparently some belief amongst his advisors that the best way forward, to promote the picture of a stable, mature sect leader who absolutely did not cry at the drop of a hat, was for Jin Ling to get married.
-
OR: Jin Ling and Jingyi get engaged.
Things spiral from there."
Jingyi POV from varnes is a gift. Jingyi POV trying to figure out the post-canon political landscape is a treasure.

Sorry to ask but I was wondering what would you do Zoé x Cosette corpse bride au? I’m just curious and wanting to find out.😅
Hmm 🤔
Victorian era, gay people are either killed or arrested
Zoé’s family is facing financial difficulties and as Audrey’s eldest daughter, she’s arranged to be married to the nouveau riche son of the owner of a chain of successful restaurants
(But also so Audrey and Chloé will be rid of her)
Remember when we feared these two being shipped?
Tumblr media
Yeah, they’re getting married
This will raise the social class of Nathaniel’s mother and restore the wealth of Zoe’s family
But there are zero sparks. None. Nada. Zilch. And guess why
The wedding rehearsal goes fine at first when Nathaniel recites his vows… Then turns to hell when Zoé forgets her vows, accidentally sets Aya’s dress on fire and drops her ring
Embarrassed, Zoé runs to a nearby forest to rehearse her vows, even going so far as to put her wedding ring on a strange hand-shaped root
Then lightning, wind, crows, and the root is revealed to be the hand of a nearly decomposed young woman in a wedding dress
Zoé, of course, is terrified. Cuz that’s a damn corpse! So she runs away, but the corpse bride finds her and spirits her away
Welcome to the Land of the Dead!
When Zoé comes to, she finds herself surrounded by numerous corpses… Wanna know how they died?
Marc fell off a tall building (Chat Noir wasn’t there to catch him)
Ismael’s mom… Snapped
Reshma died of food poisoning
Simon was crushed by his own analytical engine, and bits and pieces stick out of his body
A small meteorite went right through Denise’s chest while they were stargazing on the roof
Lacey fell off a cliff while going for a hike
During a performance, Jean fell through a trap door
Austin T was killed by some homophobes who heard him professing his love at Jean’s grave
Aurore was struck by lightning because the tip of her umbrella was made of metal
Mireille drowned when some guys pushed her in a lake
Austin A died from hair products laced with uranium (Very dangerous)
Austin B died from a Black Widow. (The homicidal woman, not the spider)
Austin Q’s was choked in his sleep by an unknown assailant
Jean sings a little song to explain everything and Zoé learns that the corpse bride, Cosette, was murdered years ago on the night of their elopement by their fiancée, who stole the family jewels and gold they had brought
Desperate to return back home despite her blushing whenever Cosette smiles because all this is way too much for her, Zoé tricks her into returning her to the Lans of the Living by claiming she wants her to meet her parents
Cosette brings Zoé to meet the Elder (It’s Mendeleiev), the ruler of the underworld, and she grants them temporary passage
Zoé reunited with Nathaniel and claims she wants to marry him, but he doesn’t really believe that and confesses he never actually wanted to marry her
Before Zoé could say anything else, Cosette discovers them together and, betrayed and hurt, drags Zoé back to the Land of the Dead
Nathaniel tries to tell his mom and the Bourgeois family of Zoé situation, but no one believes him and they assume she’s left him
Without even informing Nathaniel or his mother, the Bourgeois family decides to marry him off to a distant relative of theirs. Lila. (Shut up)
Zoé eventually reconciles with Cosette after a piano duet where they almost kiss, only to be interrupted by Jean and Austin walking in on them while making out
Zoé/Cosette: *Lean in to kiss*
Jean: Sweet! Is this a make out party! Come here, mon amour! *Dips Austin and kisses him*
Later, Zoé learns of Nathaniel’s impending marriage to Lila from her family’s newly deceased butler
Deciding, ‘fuck it, she’s cute, and I don’t even like guys,’ Zoé decides to marry Cosette
Only, this will require her to repeat her wedding vows in the Land of the Living and drink a deadly poison in order to join them in death.
The dead prepare for the ceremony and head "upstairs", where the town erupts into a temporary panic upon their arrival until the living recognize their departed loved ones and reunite with them
The chaos causes a panicked Lila to expose her own poor financial standing and her intentions to marry Nathaniel only for his wealth
Nathaniel: I’m out! I almost got married to a girl who’s clearly sapphic, I saw a corpse in a wedding dress, the dead have risen, and now this?! I just can’t do this anymore! *Grabs a bottle of wine* And I’m keeping the ring!
Going for a walk to clear his head, Nathaniel witnesses Zoé and Cosette’s wedding as Zoé complete her vows without any trouble
He decides not to stop the wedding because obviously Cosette makes her happy in a way he wouldn’t ever be able to and sits down… Right next to Marc
Just as Zoé is about to drink the poison, Lila arrives to kidnap Nathaniel and holds him a knife point, threatening to kill him unless he marries her
Cosette: … Wait a minute… *Recognizes Lila* Oh, you SON OF A-!
Reshma: We’re in a church!
Cosette recognizes Lila as both her previous fiancée and murderer
Zoé duels with Lila to protect Nathaniel until Cosette intervenes to save her life by taking a sword to the neck
Accepting defeat, Lila mockingly toasts Cosette for dying unwed and unwittingly drinks the poison, causing her to die and allowing the dead – who cannot interfere in the affairs of the living – to take retribution against her for her crimes
The Dead: *Dragging Lila to a grave as she kicks and screams*
Ismael: Welcome to the Land of the Dead, bitch.
Tumblr media
So, because she loves Cosette and her family really sucks ass, Zoé drinks the poison and becomes a corpse. They kiss, and all is well for the married couple
… Well, some is well
See, during Zoé and Lila’s duel, Lila accidentally slashed Nathaniel right across the chest and it cut way deep. Also, this is Victorian times, is the technology available to ensure he won’t die?… Probably not.
Anyway, Nathaniel dies, and now he’s a corpse. Fortunately, that cute corpse he sat with offers to show him around the Land of the Dead

Yet Another Untamed Time Travel Fixit That I'm Not Going To Write
pairings: wangxian, xuanli, and mingcheng
Transmigration time-travel (old mind/young body) that brings back not only the usual suspects (WWX, LWJ, JC, NHS,) but several characters from the parent generation as well - Because I want Papa Nie to live.
So, maybe about a week before Papa Nie meets with Wen Ruohan, Papa Nie, JFM, YZN, Madame Jin, and LQR wake with knowledge of what is to come. They each react differently, of course. Papa Nie, seeing the trap, does not die. JFM and YZN join forces to defend the pier (though they still disagree on how, they each set out to shore up what they believe needs to be shored up), Madame Jin begins to slowly amass a power base to ultimately overthrow her husband, and LQR begins to quietly shore up the Cloud Recesses's fireproofing spells and copy and store the Lan Library elsewhere, just in case. Each of them are acting as if they are the only ones returned.
But off course they aren't. Because also returned at that time are: The Yungmeng Trio, the Twin Jades, Jin Zixuan and Mianmian, and the Nie Brothers. They are also under the impression that they are alone - at least, that their particular set is alone (the yungmeng trio's reunion is *epic* and it's a *very good thing* that both of their parents were out on their various missions.) Each set reacts differently.
The Yungmeng Trio decide that they will do what they can to prepare, but also, to enjoy their time together, whatever their parents say. They then end up avoiding their parents, and it takes a while for them to begin to suspect that they remember, as the difference in their behavior could be a result of...
The Nies. Papa Nie's survival means NMJ is expected to act as heir, not sect leader, and it allows for him and NHS to reconnect and plan - he's surprisingly sneaky when he doesn't have the sword spirit breathing down his neck. They come clean after Papa Nie calls them on their behavior.
The Lans also don't last very long before telling LQR - they help, obviously, but it was the easiest way for LWJ to explain why he needed to go to Lotus Pier, *yesterday*
Jin Zixuan doesn't suspect his mother. Mianmian knew immediately. She hasn't told JZN because honestly - even he can't be that unobservant. Right?
Perhaps the GusuLan lectures happen first, and the Sunshot Generation gets to meet up there (NMJ included, as he's escorting NHS this time. Meng Yao never turned up, so NHS suspects that he's also back). Wangxian are reunited, Xuanli's engagement is never broken (and Yanli is determined to get her son back asap), and when JC goes to visit with NHS, he ends up spending more time with NMJ, who he's already had a teenaged crush on. He's no less distracting without the weight of responsibility and grief. Theirs is a new romance, and a bit whirlwind.
They begin to plan as well, having done this battle once.
Meanwhile, there is a conference held, and the parent generation gather to discuss events. The time travelers find each other and begin to plan.
Anyway, this entire setup is to get us to the next scene: At the first war meeting, the parents are debating course of action (of course, only LQR knows how it actually played out, and he's understandably hesitant to rely on Meng Yao (who is still missing) and Wei Wuxian's Ghost Path. They are arguing in circles, not getting anywhere, and the sunshot generation looses their temper (bets on if it's JC or NMJ) and it all comes out, who they are, what they remember, etc.
**an alternate moment is based around the younger group's pairings. Xuanli are constantly chaperoned, and everyone is paying attention to them and not to Wangxian, who are fucking *constantly* in a rush of teenaged hormones and a desire to rewrite their more painful history. They're also not paying attention to Mingcheng, until they decide to spar. Their sparring gains the attention of a crowd, as they are sparring at Sunshot level proficency. (I was thinking of a wonderful moment where YZN, JFM, and Papa Nie are talking, and a disciple rushes by - they stop him and ask what's going on. He says NMJ and JC (either) have been sparring for *hours* and there's still no clear winner (or) will be sparring publicly. The three rush to the training ground to see them absolutely destroy the place with the ferocity of their spar, and it ends with JC gaining the upper edge by a hair - NMJ is understandbly dickstracted by how JC fights. To claim his victory (as he has done before) JC kisses him - and that's when hell breaks loose, because he hadn't yet noticed the crowd.
From there, it always spirals out in a bunch of different ways, which is why I'm not writing it - but feel free to use all or any of this, if you want!

!! for the character intro game
Tysm for the ask!!!
This definitely didn't take me over 10 days to get to lmao
From this ask game <2
Name: Zachary Chang
Pronouns: He/Him 🏳️‍⚧️
Zach!! He's my first ever whump OC and also, I love him cuz he sucks so much <2 my favorite OC with problems :D He's appeared in this drabble which you could read. if you want. it's a little old I'm prolly never gonna continue it so
Zach has like, three main traits I would say? Overwhelming arrogance, yet also deep rooted self loathing. An extreme reluctance to make friends or any meaningful connection. And boredom. So, so much boredom.
Pretty much he had a kinda shit childhood. Manipulative parents + a pervasive feeling of otherness growing up kinda turned him off from desiring any sort of meaningful connection because whenever he was vulnerable, it was used against him. Also he developed a lot of self loathing issues, and to cope with that he leaned into ego. He's not better than anyone else, in fact he's rotten to the core, but he's the only one who sees the world as it really is, in his mind.
And the world is not only cruel and selfish, but it is deeply, utterly, boring. And Zach truly thinks he's tried everything (he hasn't), and nothing is fun to him. Nothing has brought him joy. I will say tho, he is the type of guy to try a new hobby and give up when he isn't amazing first try. Zach also has a lot of overconfidence in his prediction skills- and he's not right 100% of the time, but he's right enough of the time that he believes his prediction ability is practically infallible, and he takes that as further proof that everything is too boring and predictable.
Most of the time he's looking for something new to do, for temporary excitement or serotonin. The thing is, he's quite callous, and he doesn't really care about people or their happiness. He's a bit nihilistic, he thinks that whatever he does, it doesn't really matter in the end because everyone will be dead, eventually, and the universe will move on like nothing happened.
And then that's how he decided that becoming a villain might be fun to try. So he decided to start by majorly fucking with a random person of his choice! That person was Tào Lan, and her friends, Grace, Amir, and Declan. They formed a vigilante group, so Zach thought it would be fun to mess with them.
He started by like, kidnapping Declan and sending a letter and a videotape to the group like "hey I kidnapped your friend, if you don't rescue him by this date, I'll kill him!"
From then on, he had like a couple skirmishes with the group as they tried to rescue Declan and defeat him. First one was at an abandoned warehouse, and he set it on fire with everyone inside, and Amir ended up dying in that. Which was extremely traumatizing for Lan and Grace. To the point that neither of them could organize another rescue attempt. They tried, but most of their attempts ending up being fruitless very early on.
And then the date passed, and they got a picture in the mail of Declan's corpse.
That made Lan and Grace decide that they had to do something immediately. They were gonna kill Zach, for everything he'd done. But that fight didn't exactly go well, as it ended in Grace's demise.
Which only left Lan. And she used to be happy, you know? She had her best friends with her, and she felt like she could do anything with them at her side. But now she felt horribly empty and hopeless, though she was learning that she could do still anything, in their memory.
Once she recuperated physically from her last fight, she was determined to finally kill Zach. And this time, she succeeded.
Well, almost. At the last minute, she changed her plans. She wasn't going to kill him, but she was going to make him regret being alive.
Zach planned for a lot of things, but he didn't exactly plan for being tortured. He didn't think Lan would go that far! But she did, and he suffered for it. He was suffocatingly trapped in a cycle of suffering, and no matter what, Lan just wouldn't let him die. He knew he'd die eventually, but it was taking too long-
And then someone saved him. An old classmate, Erika Sanchez, found him and got him out of the abandoned prison he was being held captive in. And now he's crashing at her house :) She doesn't know about his crimes, and he's not about to tell her. There's a bit of an angsty half recovery arc <2
(Zach on the left, Lan on the right)

This one is a WIP with really interesting premise. Half dragon Foxxian and dragonji. Wwx unreliable narrator due to outsider pov that makes interesting mystery elements. Many cultivators have creature blood. Wen ruohan hunts down other creatures to eat and absorb their power. Wwx parents were killed for this reason in wen territory and everyone else thought he died, but actually trapped behind border barrier & habitually rescues people from wen.
The Hard-working Fox and His Baby Dragon
by SaySaeri (not rated, 12k, WIP, wangxian, lan sizhui & wei wuxian)
Summary:  An orphaned WWX spends his time in Wen territory, unable to leave where his parents perished. Like his parents before him, he decides to help anyone wronged by the evil Wens escape. At this point in time, Wen Ruohan's lust for power has extended to consuming his own and those unborn.
"I can't wait to meet you," Wei Wuxian murmurs softly as he holds the cold egg close, determined to keep his -that's right, HIS- egg close to him at all times to keep it incubated. "I'll make sure you stay warm okay? When you hatch, let's play together."
Wei Wuxian doesn't know, but to be able to hatch a frostbitten egg is considered impossible.
~*~
Really cool canon era post falling off the cliff superhero vibes. Wwx survives the fall because Zidian follows him down. No one else knows this.
let your colours bleed and blend with mine
by ravenditefairylights (T, 13k, wangxian)
Summary:  Wei Wuxian does not want to be a hero. It's not his fault that his weapon is the only one that works against the resentful creatures that suddenly appeared in Yunmeng and the people there now believe he's a rogue cultivator who's come to save them. He is also not a woman, but he can't admit that he didn't contribute to this deceit a little bit. Wei Wuxian just wants to help and be left alone. --- “You want to go to Yunmeng? Didn’t you hear? They have an outbreak of ghosts!”
“My nephew lives in Yunmeng, and he’s told me that there are demons walking around them!”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about! They just have something poisoning their water, that’s all! All sects in the area are experiencing similar crises!”
“I’m telling you, it’s demons!” The second man insists. “The Yiling Patriarch has come back to take revenge on the Jiang Sect!”
Wei Wuxian chokes on his wine. --- Join Wei Wuxian in his adventure to defeat the resentful creatures that plague Yunmeng and save people!

ep49 (2/3): I wish jgs was alive so we can kill him again (more painfully)
Tumblr media
oh jgy is so good. he developed a fake tell for lying so he can deceive his brother more effectively. come to think of it, xy was also a lying liar who tricked the person who trusted him the most and sent him to his death. I'm sensing a theme
...read a fic once where lwj was gravely wounded at nightless and lxc blamed wwx and then killed him because of it. that was juicy as fuck. their relationship didn't recover for years, not until it was revealed wwx secretly survived. that was a parent trap AU. wild time. anyway
Tumblr media
a really powerful move to cement him as the shy, loyal yet socially powerless illegitimate son
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh god oh fuck remember how well this was done? they nailed the tragedy and horror SO well
Tumblr media
yayyy uncle nephew time. wwx and jl make me so happy they're FAMBLY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
legitimate greivance! but jgy, this isn't a justification for jin zixuan! you murdered one of the only high-ranking jins who actually liked you and treated you with respect
like if he'd killed his dad and zixun he probably would have been fine. guaranteed a high position and zixuan could pressure the rest of the sect to treat him with respect, which he wasn't close enough with nmj to really push the issue on
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yep that IS fucked. jgy's resentment is long-held and justifiable
Tumblr media
ugh god I don't even want to insult a pig by calling him that. piece of shit!
Tumblr media
okay this was a slay move
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this isn't helping your case dude. you just admitted to mass murder
I can't even tell if this is an act anymore. does he actually feel regret over any of this? does he rue the loss of his autonomy, his self-respect?
Tumblr media
god what a disgusting person for real.
I refuse to post the quasi-kiss because it's nasty but also IT WAS NOT A KISS!!!! flirtatiously transferring fruit between mouths does not a kiss make!!!
Tumblr media
fucking losing it. honestly I get it
Tumblr media
buddy. lan xichen. you asked.
I forget if I already mentioned it, but the temple scene is really gorgeous. a good place for emotional showdowns, even if they drag a bit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aw fuck yes half-face shot that looks kind of awkward but metaphorically works PERFECTLY. also I complained about people being taken in by him but right here I was like 'okay finally we get some honesty from him! he's admitting he's a shitty person! it still might be an attempt to glean that very pity, but at least-' and then the ominous music starts and we get this shot
Tumblr media
and I was like "FOR FUCK'S SAKE YOU JUST DON'T QUIT'
Tumblr media
jc, calling to wwx as if he's trustworthy again...hm
Tumblr media
lwj how did you come to that conclusion. what do you know about unorthodox qin string storage
WHERE??!!!! in his hand???
Tumblr media
oh jeez he's really going for it. that's more blood than he drew from wwx...for once, someone suffers more than wwx (sorry jin ling)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FUNNIEST SHIT IN THE FINALE. jgy ditching his loyal retainer at the first possible opportunity. to quote that one post I know they fucked and su she is following him around bc he's hoping to do it again. and jgy is clearly not above leading people on to keep them devoted to him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh my godddd
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lsz got thrown in for no reason and also wen ning just showed up so the whole gang's here!!!
but seriously why is lsz here. where did he come from? why is he alone? he doesn't even do anything. I suppose it's so he can stare at wwx and clutch his little butterfly toy very tightly but he is blatantly just shoved into the scene for zero plot reason
it's not a complaint because he doesn't interfere or anything, and another trusted lan disciple relaying the truth of what happened in the temple can't hurt, but it's weird
Tumblr media
there's jc again. now he trusts wwx again seemingly immediately, relying on him for information and clarification 🥺

Still on my “I go feral for established relationship” agenda. There are so many small moments in the extras I love for showing us how much the Wangxian relationship has developed.
With his elbow, he poked lightly at the stomach of Lan WangJi, who was currently marking the notes, his back straight. Without any change in expression, Lan WangJi replied, “Yes.”
After he spoke, he wrapped an arm around Wei WuXian’s waist, locking him in place so that he didn’t mess around, and continued to mark the notes that’d been handed in.
Wei WuXian struggled a bit, but as he still couldn’t get out, he decided to maintain this position as he continued to lecture Lan SiZhui[.]
(Chapter 124, ExR)
This scene, as grewlikefancyflowers highlights, is a progression of their kink dynamic and I enjoy it for that, but it also shows how much their relationship as a whole has progressed.
Lan “I don’t touch people casually” Wangji just wraps an arm around WWX and holds him there. He is comfortable in himself and in his partner.
WWX still has his inclination to mess around, but his priority is teaching. He is settled and mature while still having fun.
But the major thing is that WWX once feared that LWJ wanted to trap him. His fear wasn’t even entirely unfounded -- LWJ may not have intended that by asking WWX to come back to Gusu, but the parallel with his parents indicates that going to Gusu would likely have meant some sort of unbearable restriction. This has been a big obstacle in their relationship for a long time -- once he’s resurrected, WWX keeps trying to escape from LWJ because he’s still afraid of being trapped and punished.
Now there is complete trust. This is also part of why I enjoy their bondage inclinations. In his first life, WWX would never have been comfortable with LWJ tying him up with his forehead ribbon, or pinning him down and holding him somewhere. But after everything they’ve gone through, LWJ has proven that he will not trap WWX. WWX can feel free to enjoy the way LWJ does restrict him because he knows his essential self is in no danger in LWJ’s hands now. He can struggle, and not break free, and not mind.
WWX just...has come to trust LWJ so much, in small things as well as big things. And I love the extras for showing us their relationship beyond the “getting together” stage so we can see this.

We start off with an idyllic day in the Burial Mounds. Farmers are farming, mayor Wei is farting around in his lotus patch showing off his sexy leg hair, and Wen Ning is the only fierce corpse in the vicinity.
Tumblr media
Everyone is wearing new clothes and there's a general sense of, if not plenty, at least sustenance. A-Yuan tries to eat a lotus seed, but these are apparently not the edible type. Wei Wuxian explains that these seeds ward off evil because they grew in the burial mounds, and that A-Yuan can carry one with him for protection.
Tumblr media
A-Yuan tucks it away. This is either superstitious claptrap that Wei Wuxian made up to distract A-Yuan, or it's deep magic that is the reason A-Yuan survived being left alone here.
Tumblr media
Wen Ning comes into the clearing sporting his new goth sugar-baby look. He’s hot with his hair down like this.
Tumblr media
He tells Wen Qing that a Jin cultivator delivered an invitation. It's from Lan Wangji, and it's an invite to go to Jin Ling's party. The invite says 100-days celebration, which is the normal time to have a baby party, but the dialog keeps calling it his one-month celebration. That's ok, time is meaningless in this show anyway.
(more after the cut!)
Wen Qing is worried about this, either sensing a trap, or sensing an opportunity for Jiang Cheng and others to convince Wei Wuxian to leave the Wens to their fate.
Tumblr media
She puts on a happy face and gives the invite to Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian is delighted that he’s going to get to see his sister and nephew and maybe also hook up with Lan Wangji.
Tumblr media
Wen Qing drops her happy expression once Wei Wuxian isn’t looking at her.
Necromancy is Hard, Let’s Go Shopping
Later, Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning head to the gift shop, where townies are gossiping about the Jin clan right at this very moment. Because there's nothing else of interest in Yiling, apparently, than very specific news about the latest births and project plans of the not-local-to-Yiling Jin clan.
The interesting bit of news is that the Jin clan wants to build observation towers. These will enable faster communication. Faster than magic messenger butterflies?
Tumblr media
The Random Guys Talking News Network is concerned that this might be the beginning of a Wen-style power grab, and they're right to be concerned. They say that it's Jin Guangyao's idea, and mention that Nie Mingjue is one who hasn't agreed to the plan.
They also talk about this sorta-Zhuazhou ritual, to determine a baby’s future career, where Jin Ling grabbed JIn Zixuan’s sword. The new parents are doing this super early, which is good since they won’t be around for the more traditional first-birthday version.
Tumblr media
The items that Jin Zixuan offers the baby are a brush, a book, a sword, and a tassel, giving Jin Ling the option of becoming a scribe, a scholar, a cultivator, or an interior decorator.
Meanwhile, an extremely unconvincing Wei Wuxian body double has come into the gift shop. We only see them from the back, and the producers apparently expect us to believe this is Xiao Zhan.
Tumblr media
No.
Wei Wuxian is shopping for tassels, with loving closeup camera moves that make me wonder if this is a product placement for a tassel company.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's Talk About The Jins Hour continues with the ladies at the table saying what a good life Jiang Yanli has now. They conclude by saying that nothing is as good as having a good birth background, just so their conversation can be personally insulting to Wei Wuxian. Then everyone chats about how Wei Wuxian is a jerk, because they don’t know he’s right next to them.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian hears them a little ruefully, but carries on with his shopping. Growing up in the Jiang household has made him accustomed to hearing people talk shit about him.
After he finishes shopping, Wei Wuxian shows Wen Ning the gifts he’s giving to Jin Ling. First there’s a nice tassel with a carved bead; it looks to be a lotus, similar to the bead that hangs from Chenqing. It’s in no-one’s sect colors, although it’s a green that’s pretty close to Lan Wangji’s favored blue hue.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian pets the bead in a way that...is not at all distracting.
The more important present is a special carved string of beads that Wei Wuxian made. I think they are made from the lotus seeds he was telling A-Yuan about earlier, that are extra potent because of growing in the Burial Mounds. Wei Wuxian stops Wen Ning from touching it since they are designed to protect against things like Wen Ning.
Tumblr media
As they chat, Wen Ning takes the opportunity to warn Wei Wuxian that he should resist the urge to punch Jin Zixuan in the spine, or words to that effect. This is called Dramatic Irony. Wei Wuxian responds that he's grateful to Jin Zixuan for inviting him, so he won't talk bad about him for a whole year. Or, you know, forever, as it happens.
Heading for a Showdown
Tumblr media
They set off for the party at a comfortable stroll. Everything in cultivation-land is within a square mile of everything else, yah? So people just walk between sects in the course of a morning. Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning arrive at a valley that seems perfect for an ambush, because it is perfect for an ambush.
Tumblr media
It’s quiet...too quiet.
Wei Wuxian asks Wen Ning if he perceives anything strange and Wen Ning reaches out with his spidey sense corpsey sense and says it seems ok. Which shows that Wen Ning’s corpsey sense is not actually useful.
Then an arrow comes flying toward Wei Wuxian's face and Wen Ning catches it. Wei Wuxian has no startle reflex. and also no gag reflex
Tumblr media
A bunch of Jins and LANS show up on the cliff above him, pointing things at him, with Jin Zixun in the lead. Why are the Lans in on this? God damn it, he’s RIGHT not to trust them, fuck these guys.
Tumblr media
Because Wei Wuxian enjoys being a dick, even when his life is on the line, his first words to Jin Zixun are "who are you?" which cracks me up.
Tumblr media
Jin Zixun is pretty much the only person he greets this way, so he has to be fucking with him.
Jin Zixun tells him to undo the curse he put on him, which is actually....not unreasonable, if he really believes Wei Wuxian is responsible. Like, this didn't start off as a whole-ass bloodbath. If Wei Wuxian clears off the curse, Jin Zixun won’t kill him and they can go to the party. Unfortunately, Wei Wuxian isn’t the perpetrator of the curse, so that's not going to work out.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian points out, sexily, that when it comes to killing people he is out and proud, so he wouldn't do anything sneaky like curse a dude.
Also he says that he doesn't bother to injure people; he's super good at actual killing, as he will be demonstrating in a couple of minutes.
Unleashing Wen Ning
Eventually the talking part is over and Jin Zixun is ready to rumble. Wei Wuxian agrees and Wen Ning promptly yanks off his orange necklace, that is apparently a restraining device. Then Wen Ning goes through a slightly hilarious and very long resentment boot-up sequence.
Tumblr media
During which nobody shoots him.
Tumblr media
So, Wei Wuxian is loveable and charming and frequently heroic, and it's impossible not to relate to him. I mean, unless you are just not into this show, in which case, reading all this is probably a hell of a chore for you.
But his use of Wen Ning is just wrong. The fact that Wen Ning doesn't mind is not the point. This guy is his friend, who is younger than him, and has a crush you can see from space.
Here, he's unleashing him deliberately to use as a weapon in this battle. He is not sheltering and protecting Wen Ning, who is what I'd call "medically complex" at this point. He's flinging him with maximum force at his enemies, which is not awesome of him.
Tumblr media
That said, I do love me some angry ghost general.
Wen Ning jumps up the cliff to bring the (literal) smoke to the Jin (and LAN, ugh, fuck those guys) cultivators. Jin Zixun jumps down to attack Wei Wuxian directly.
Wei Wuxian throws a talisman, made extra powerful through spinning. For some reason the camera focus is too tight to really appreciate the wire work here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jin Zixun successfully uses his sword to dispel the talisman attack, which looks exactly like a Despicable Me fart-gun blast.
Tumblr media
During the fight, the gift box with the string of beads leaps out from where it is tucked in Wei Wuxian’s robe, and lands in Jin Zixun's hand. That was pretty sentient of it.
At this point Jin Zixuan arrives to find out what the fuck is going on. He yells at his cousin, who says he’ll apologize to Jiang Yanli later after he is done killing Wei Wuxian. Like...how does Jin ZIxun think that conversation would go, exactly? Does he think Jiang Yanli would stab him in the face 100 times with her hairpin? I do.
Jin Zixun keeps arguing until he makes Zixuan mad; JZX tells him to shut up. This hurts Jin Zixun’s feelings, and he retaliates by crushing the carefully-grown-and-carved baby gift into dust. Because Wei Wuxian wasn’t angry enough already.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian starts to attack with the power of flute pointing, but Jin Zixuan deflects him with the power of finger pointing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jin Zixuan tries really hard to talk Wei Wuxian into backing down, but Wei Wuxian reasonably points out that there is a large assassination squad just waiting to shoot arrows into him if he does. Why aren’t they trying to shoot arrows into him right now, incidentally? They can’t all be busy fighting Wen Ning. Maybe it’s because the Jins are all terrible at archery, judging by the position of these arrows. They've given up in despair.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Wen Ning has suddenly grown extra irises on his eyeballs, in one of the particularly questionable special effects in this show. Later we learn that this apparently means there are two flutes controlling him.
How does this work, exactly? 2 flutes, 2 command streams, and 1 Wen Ning. Wei Wuxian, with the Yin tiger seal, is sending the command "fuck up asshole cousin Jin Zixun" and Su She, without the Yin tiger seal (but with a golden core), is sending the command "fuck up sect heir Jin Zixuan." Why does Wen Ning follow the wrong command? Is it like a batch script where he follows each command sequentially, and Su She hit "enter" first? I'm gonna go with that.
Or maybe the idea of a second flute is ridiculous and Wei Wuxian was super mad at the Jin cousins and his own anger caused Wen Ning to act out?
Tumblr media
Ha ha, of course not, 2 flutes makes so much more sense.

Parent Trap AU
...with a side of on-the-run hacker!wwx AU, and celebrity!lwj AU. Full series here.
-
In the end, all the chaos starts because Lan Jingyi gets offended.
“What do you mean you haven’t heard of my uncle?” Lan Jingyi demands.
He glares down at Wei Sizhui from the top bunk. Lan Jingyi and the other two boys in Wei Sizhui’s cabin got into a fight over who would get the top bunks, and after several heated rounds of rock-paper-scissors, they went to Lan Jingyi and Ouyang Zizhen.
“Stop shouting!” Jin Rulan yells from the other side of the room. He yanks his headphones off and directs his own glare at Lan Jingyi, who scowls back.
“He said he hasn’t heard of Hanguang-jun!” Lan Jingyi yells right back.
Jin Rulan frowns. “The singer? So?”
“I’m sorry,” Wei Sizhui interrupts, before they can get into a fight. “My dad and I travel a lot, so I’ve never stuck around in one place long enough…”
Lan Jingyi frowns, this time with suspicion. “What does your dad do?”
“Uh.”
He’s a genius-level hacker wanted for a felony he didn’t commit and he’s been on the run from at least two organizations for the past nine years.
“…He’s a computer engineer.”
“Really?” Ouyang Zizhen perks up from his top bunk. Wei Sizhui knows vaguely that he likes graphic design. “That’s so cool.”
Wei Sizhui smiles weakly. “Yeah. Um.” He tries not to panic thinking about what to say if anyone asks him any more questions about his dad’s job.
Lan Jingyi flounders for only a second. “Still,” he insists. “You guys have heard of him, right?” When Jin Rulan and Ouyang Zizhen both nod, he points his iPhone victoriously at Wei Sizhui. “See?! He’s famous!”
Wei Sizhui shrugs helplessly. He doesn’t know why he hasn’t heard of Hanguang-jun. He suspects that it’s because he moves around so much, he’s never really had the chance to make friends, so all the music he knows is the music his dad listens to. Wei Sizhui knows his dad is doing his best, but sometimes it’s unbearably lonely.
Which is why he’s at this summer camp in the first place. His dad pulled a lot of strings (read: committed a lot of forgery) so that he could make friends. And now it seems he’s already made a mistake in not knowing Lan Jingyi’s (“Well, he’s not really my uncle, but we’re related…somehow”) uncle.
“But you’ve at least heard his songs,” Lan Jingyi insists. “Like, uh.” He clears his throat, then shoots a look at Jin Rulan, cheeks flushing. “Our Vow? Water Under The Bridge? I Promise? Someone Like You? At First Sight?” He shakes his head in disappointment when Wei Sizhui just continues staring at him blankly.
“Wait, I’m pulling it up on Spotify,” Ouyang Zizhen chimes in. He rolls over onto his stomach and fishes his phone out of his pocket.
“I can’t believe this,” Lan Jingyi says, still shaking his head. “You’ve at least heard the chorus of Under Moonlight. There’s no way you haven’t.” He clears his throat again, and then clearly chickens out again.
“Go ahead, sing it,” Jin Rulan says, smirking.
Lan Jingyi glares at him, then a thought brightens his face. “Maybe you’ll recognize him!” He whips out his phone and starts typing furiously.
Wei Sizhui opens his mouth to protest, seeing no reason why he would recognize the singer’s face but not their voice, but he’s too late. Lan Jingyi is already clambering down the ladder, and proudly presenting the Google Image results for “Hanguang-jun.” Then Wei Sizhui’s mouth, despite not being closed, really falls open.
“I know him,” he blurts.
“So you do recognize him,” Lan Jingyi says, pleased.
“No, I…” Wei Sizhui stutters.
Now it’s his turn to fumble for his phone. He opens Photos and taps on Albums, then opens Favorites. At the top, timestapped April 5, 2010, is one of the only photos Wei Sizhui has of his dad. His dad hates being caught on camera, for obvious reasons. Still, Wei Sizhui doesn’t hesitate to open the photo and show it to Lan Jingyi.
Lan Jingyi cranes his neck to peer over Wei Sizhui’s shoulder, and his mouth falls open too.
The photo is a still image of two people. On the left is Wei Wuxian, Wei Sizhui’s adopted dad. He’s dressed in a sharp black suit, a red flower tucked into the right breast pocket. He’s throwing up peace signs for the camera. His arms are draped around the other person from behind, and his smile is blinding.
The other person is clearly Lan Jingyi’s uncle, Hanguang-jun. The man has the same striking face, the same light brown eyes. He’s dressed in an all-white suit, save for the light blue flower tucked similarly into a pocket. He has the same ribbon wrapped around his wrist. The main difference between the Google Images that Lan Jingyi pulled up and the photo that Wei Sizhui has is that in Sizhui’s, Hanguang-jun is smiling softly.
It’s a wedding photo.
“No way,” Lan Jingyi breathes. “I recognize that guy! My uncle carries around a picture of him in his wallet!”
“Wait, really?” Jin Rulan perks up at this bit of drama, taking his headphones off completely.
Ouyang Zizhen also perks up, abandoning his quest to find Hanguang-jun’s music. He slides down his ladder, colliding with Jin Rulan’s attempts to get out of his bed. After minimal cursing, both boys make their way to Wei Sizhui’s bed, where Lan Jingyi is still gaping at the photo.
“Wait, that really is Hanguang-jun,” Ouyang Zizhen says. “I guess your dad met him, Sizhui?”
“Oh my god,” Jin Rulan says at the same time. “That’s my uncle.”
This time Jin Rulan is the one to pull out his phone. He scrolls through his videos until he gets to the very beginning, narrating as he goes. “It’s the only video I have of my uncle,” he explains. “My uncle–I mean, my mom’s other brother–doesn’t like to talk about him, because he went to jail like a decade ago–”
At this, Wei Sizhui winces, suddenly remembering why he’s not supposed to talk about his dad with other people.
“–But my mom does, and she sent this to me,” Jin Rulan finishes.
Finally, he finds the right video, and opens it.
The video was filmed on a 2010’s iPhone, so the video quality is poor. Still, the audio is clear enough when the camera is turned around to view the filmer. The man taking the video has a half-fond, half-exasperated scowl on his face. He’s wearing a violently purple sweater, under which the collar of a black shirt peeks out.
“He’s going to break his legs before I have a chance to break them for him,” the man says, rolling his eyes. “Look.”
The camera is flipped around, showcasing a staircase and Wei Wuxian, leaning over the railing. Wei Wuxian looks back and grins at the camera.
“It’s going to work, just you wait,” Wei Wuxian says.
“I’m going to watch you break your legs,” the man says again.
“Aw, Jiang Cheng, have a little faith,” Wei Wuxian retorts. He leans over the railing again. “Wait, shh! He’s coming!”
Jiang Cheng dutifully falls silent, as Wei Wuxian leans further and further over the railing.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian shouts, and then he jumps over the railing.
Jiang Cheng starts running to the stairs, and any and all sounds are drowned out by the background wind noise of the man running. When he stops, he points the camera over the stairs.
There’s a scattering of books across the hardwood floor, and a man in white, whose face is obscured by Wei Wuxian, held in his arms. Wei Wuxian wraps his arms around the man's neck and twists to look up at the camera.
“I told you he’d catch me!” Wei Wuxian shouts victoriously.
“You made him drop all his books!” Jiang Cheng shouts back, from behind the camera.
The camera is flipped back to Jiang Cheng, who’s still rolling his eyes. “Somehow this is my dumbest brother-in-law,” he says.
“Jiang Cheng, don’t be jealous!” Wei Wuxian shouts from the other floor. “We’ll find you someone one day!”
Jiang Cheng’s face colors purple, and the video ends.
The four boys are silent for a moment.
“So that was Hanguang-jun?” Ouyang Zizhen says, after their moment of silence is over.
“I guess so,” Jin Rulan says.
“You’re telling me my uncle and your dad were married?” Lan Jingyi demands.
“And he went to jail?” Ouyang Zizhen adds. “Sizhui, what happened there?”
Jin Rulan wrinkles his nose. “Why does your uncle still carry around a photo of him if they split up?”
“Why did they split up?” Lan Jingyi asks. “Was it the jail thing?”
“Seriously, what did he go to jail for?” Ouyang Zizhen asks.
In eerie unison, all three boys put down their phones and look at Wei Sizhui expectantly.
Two weeks into summer camp, and Wei Sizhui has already made his first three friends, and blown his dad’s cover. He’ll be wanted by the FBI after this, for identity forgery, if they aren’t already–Wei Sizhui isn’t entirely clear, and his dad doesn’t clarify.
Wei Sizhui smiles nervously.
“Who did you say your dad was again?” Lan Jingyi asks.

If you're still taking small prompts
Wwx is found by XXC instead of JFM ( handwaves the ages). He grows up as a rogue cultivator ( maybe meets BSSR). He meets JFM who offers him a disciple position and wwx joins just for kicks ( hey, of xxc will start his own sect, someone must know how it actually works)
He takes none of YZYs BS
Wei Wuxian likes to keep his life interesting and by most people's standards, it has been. After all, few people can claim to be born to an immortal cultivator's disciple. Fewer still can claim to be adopted by another such disciple.
Wei Wuxian's life has been full of adventure and that has shaped his personality. When he parts ways with Xiao Xingchen at seventeen, he chases new experiences. He roams the lands as a rogue cultivator, helps people in need, annoys prissy sect disciples, flirts with a particularly enchanting Lan, and has fun.
When he stumbles upon the Jiang Sect heir and companions in trouble, he quickly disposes of the threat. Wei Wuxian then carries the heir and ushering the disciples back to the safety of the Lotus Pier.
That certainly proves to be an experience.
"I looked for you," Jiang Fengmian says as soon as things are settled, "Your parents were my friends."
Not just friends, Wei Wuxian figures that out within the first few days of his stay. His father was the Head Disciple and his mother... well, obviously Jiang Fengmian had been somewhat smitten by her.
When Jiang-zongzhu asks him to join the sect as a disciple, Wei Wuxian feels like he owes it to his father to at least try. It would be a fun experience too.
"I'd like to try it out," He says but he doesn't commit. He fully intends to help his uncle set up his own sect but he figures spending a few months in an actual sect environment would help.
The first time he hears the words 'son of a servant' sneered at him by the Madam's retainers, he brushes it off. He's a free man and an established cultivator in his own right. He doesn't need anyone's validation.
If bloodline meant anything, he wouldn't be able to wipe the floor with Jiang Cheng every time they sparred.
Being a part of a sect also means he gets to see his pretty Lan more often. Though his pretty Lan does seem a tad bit disappointed that he joined another sect.
Maybe he should've given the Lans a chance?
It isn't long before he takes on the role of a teacher instead of a student out of sheer frustration. Either the Jiang disciples are incredibly sheltered or the leader is unforgivably lax. They have great martial prowess but don't know how to apply their skills in practical situations.
Good steel but blunt edges.
Wei Wuxian sharpens the disciples with ruthless efficiency by taking them on Nighthunts regularly. Jiang-zongzhu indulges him, asking his Head Disciple to help Wei Wuxian.
Yu-furen disapproves.
Oh, how much she disapproves.
Wei Wuxian feels the bite of the whip once, when he isn't paying attention and is reprimanding a clumpsy disciple.
Just once and he retaliates.
Zidian is a first-class spiritual weapon but Suibian is more than a match. Madam Yu is an accomplished cultivator, but Wei Wuxian is more than a match.
He catches Zidian with Suibian and twists his blade sharply, trapping the whip. With his Golden Core blazing and his sword ringing with spiritual energy, he keeps the whip locked and stares Yu-furen down.
You see, Wei Wuxian is a rogue cultivator. He is a blade forged and sharpened in the wilderness. He has never spent a day sheltered by a rich sect or loving parents. While his uncle loves him, he also doesn't coddle him.
Hunting yao, banishing ghosts, walking for several li every day, practicing inedia regularly, meditating for several hours in harsh conditions almost every day... all of these trials have honed his cultivation.
No sheltered, sect-raised disciple can really match him.
When Madam Yu tries to pull Zidian back, he doesn't budge.
"Wei Wuxian!"
"Yu-furen," He nods cordially, "I see you're upset." His tone becomes smooth and formal, "And I can certainly help with whatever upsets you. But you need to speak, I can't guess."
"How dare you take disciples out on Nighthunts, take Jiang Cheng out on dangerous excursions, without my permission."
Wei Wuxian tilts his head to the side, shifting Suibian subtly to adjust for her tugging. "I was under the impression that Jiang-zongzhu was the leader of this sect. I have his permission."
"I am his mother!" She snarls, "And I don't trust Fengmian's bastard-"
Wei Wuxian twists his blade and Zidian sputters, its bright purple lightning faltering for a bit.
Madam Yu falters with it, watching her prized weapon with wide eyes.
"I am the son of Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren." He says in a cheerful tone that betrays none of his ire. Suibian's glowing red wrath does it for him, "And I belong to no one else."
"a-Xian," He glances at Jiang-zongzhu and releases the damaged whip with an elegant roll of his wrist.
Later, in a private meeting, Jiang-zongzhu gently asks him not to undermine Yu-furen's authority in such a public setting.
He also accepts his punishment for damaging such a priceless tool.
But Wei Wuxian is no servant and he doesn't let them fit him into that mold. He stays for six months, dodges all attempts to suppress him, doesn't accept any punishment that isn't his due, and leaves.
The next time anyone from the Jiang Sect sees Wei Wuxian, he is dressed in neat dark blue robes with a sash that indicates his status as a Head Disciple of Xiao Xingchen's new sect. He is shamelessly flirting with the Second Jade of Lan but carries himself with so much confidence and power that no one dares to reprimand him for it.
He never was and never will be suppressed.

LXC is the legal guardian and adopter for LSZ or LJY, and NMJ has questions.
part 2 of the LJY-adopted-by-LQR fic (now also on ao3)
-
“So, did I knock you up before I went to war or something?” Nie Mingjue asked. “Because I feel like you should’ve mentioned it if that was the case. Possibly in a letter.”
Lan Xichen was so tired that it took him a solid minute to parse what was wrong with that sentence and how to respond, and it was not by following his first instinct to apologize that he should’ve written better letters.
“Stop making fun of me,” he said instead, groping towards some measure of dignity.
Sadly, dignity was in very short supply when you were taking care of babies. Multiple babies. Well, one baby and one toddler, which was somehow worse?
Lan Xichen was pretty sure they’d figured out how to time their crying off each other.
“I would never,” Nie Mingjue said, like a liar, and then he picked up little Jingyi and – Lan Xichen simply cannot find another way to put it – shook him, in a manner not unlike testing a melon for freshness.
For some reason, this made Lan Jingyi stop crying and start making snuffling little giggles instead.
“How did you do that?” Lan Xichen asked, eyes wide.
“Do what?” Nie Mingjue tucked the baby into the crook of his arm and scooped up some food off the table, offering it to him, and Lan Jingy actually ate it. “Xichen, are you feeling all right?”
“Shhh!” Lan Xichen hissed, eyes fixed on the baby, which was neither spitting up everything nor wailing as if his heart was broken. “No unnecessary noise during meals.”
Nie Mingjue snorted in amusement. “Sure,” he said amiably, in the tone Lan Xichen had long ago learned meant ‘nice rules you’ve got there, it’d be an awful shame if someone found a loophole in them’. “This isn’t a meal, though; it’s just a snack.”
Lan Xichen eyed the still-not-crying Lan Jingyi and decided that now was not the time for a spirited debate on the virtues of discipline and fulfilling the merits rather than the word of a rule.
“Where’s monster number one gone?” Nie Mingjue asked abruptly. “He must be very good at hiding, because I looked away for a blink of an eye and he was gone.”
Lan Xichen’s eyes slowly dropped down to where a cloth-covered lump was not-so-sneakily edging towards Nie Mingjue’s foot.
Nie Mingjue was one of the foremost front line fighters of their generation, and possibly the previous one as well. His physical ability was matched only by his incredibly keen senses.
There was no way he was not aware of the lump.
“It’s a real shame, too,” Nie Mingjue continued. “I was planning on doing a test of how far you can throw children, but I think monster two here’s a bit too small to make the test worthwhile. But I guess it just wasn’t meant to be –”
You can’t throw children, Lan Xichen was about to say, except Lan Sizhui was tearing off the tablecloth and jumping up in excitement, shouting, “Here! Here! I’m here! I’m big enough! You can throw me!”
“Why does he want to be thrown,” Lan Xichen murmured, bewildered. He’d never wanted to be thrown around as a child. Had he?
In fairness, he wasn’t sure. No one had ever offered.
Apparently, though, Lan Sizhui did very much want to be thrown around, and Lan Jingyi even condescended to allow Lan Xichen to hold him while he watched.
“Higher! Higher!” Lan Sizhui shouted.
“Really? Is this high enough?” Nie Mingjue held him up at eye level.
“Higher!”
“Like this?” Above his head.
“Higher!”
“You sure?”
“Yes!”
“All right. How about –” Baxia slithered out from her place by the door, zipping over until she was right in front of Nie Mingjue, allowing him to step onto her like a stair, and then zipping upwards to about hip-height, lifting Nie Mingjue and Lan Sizhui with her. They very nearly hit a tree branch with their heads. “– this?”
Lan Sizhui shrieked with laughter.
“It’s too early to introduce them to flying,” Lan Xichen objected, because it was. “Mingjue-xiong…”
Nie Mingjue hopped down with a laugh. “All right, one last toss,” he told Lan Sizhui. “Then you nap. Okay?”
“Okay!” Lan Sizhui, who had never once willingly succumbed to naptime in the entirety of the time that Lan Xichen had known him, promised earnestly.
Back into the pile of soft grass he went, giggling the entire time, and amazingly enough he really did fall asleep afterwards. Lan Jingyi, too, had fallen asleep at some point.
“I’ve decided that your brother needs more experience running a sect,” Lan Xichen told Nie Mingjue, who raised his eyebrows. “Starting immediately. I promise to allow you to leave when Jingyi is, oh, shall we say five years old..?”
You could reason with a five year old.
Nie Mingjue laughed.
It was a type of laugh that suggested that he thought Lan Xichen was making a joke. This was incorrect.
“You’d be amazed at how serious I am,” Lan Xichen told him threateningly, “I’m sect leader here, this is my territory, I can have you arrested any time –” but by that point Nie Mingjue was already bundling him off to bed, too, combing out his hair and plying him with snacks and –
This was not helping his argument that Lan Xichen should be allowing him to leave rather than keep him trapped in the Cloud Recesses as a babysitter-slash-love-slave.
Well, he wouldn’t really do that, of course. He’d let him go. Eventually.
It’d probably be good for Nie Mingjue’s stress levels, honestly.
“Seriously, though, how did you do that?” he asked, his head on Nie Mingjue’s lap. “They didn’t cry once.”
“I’m good with kids,” Nie Mingjue said, his fingers digging into Lan Xichen’s scalp in just the right way. “Now can you explain to me how exactly you ended up with them? Two, no less?”
Lan Xichen groaned and covered his eyes with a hand. “Sizhui’s Wangji’s,” he explained. “Not biologically, but he’s put his name down in the family register under his own. But, you know…”
“I know.”
Lan Xichen appreciated that he didn’t need to go into it. The doctors had estimated that Lan Wangji would regain full mobility within three years, so that was the period the elders had mandated for his so-called ‘seclusion’, but with Lan Wangji being locked away like that – even with visitors, even though he was trying his hardest to care for the child from where he was – meant that someone had to care for the child’s day-to-day life until his brother was ready to resume the role.
“Jingyi is a cousin, I think,” he continued. “His parents are dead, and uncle accepted guardianship for him…I think he’s going to adopt him, actually.”
“Then why is he with you?”
“I volunteered.”
“Xichen, I say this with a full heart of affection and tremendous respect for your capabilities,” Nie Mingjue said. “But why in the world would you go and do a stupid thing like that?”
Lan Xichen sighed. The worst part was, he couldn’t even argue that it wasn’t stupid – he was, quite obviously, terrible with children.
“Uncle’s still injured from the war,” he admitted. In fact, his injury was probably even older than the war, dating as far back as the burning of the Cloud Recesses – his uncle had never been much of a fighter, his impressive cultivation strength stemming almost entirely from gentler arts like music and learning and meditation, but when his home and his family and his students were at risk, he’d fought, while Lan Xichen ran. Not just fought; he’d kept fighting long past the point that his body allowed. It only made sense for the bill to need to be paid. “He had a recurrence of an old complaint, not long ago; he started coughing up blood. The doctors insisted that he try to avoid anything that might cause him  stress.”
“Stress. Like, say, a rowdy infant?”
“Exactly like a rowdy infant,” Lan Xichen agreed, glad that Nie Mingjue did not mention that what had happened with Lan Wangji was also likely a source of stress. At least the two of them had slowly started to repair their relationship recently – the heartbreak would kill their uncle sooner than anything else, and Lan Xichen might be weak, but he really couldn’t tolerate the idea of suffering any more loss.
And also, if Lan Wangji could see his way to forgiving their uncle, he might one day agree to forgive Lan Xichen, too.
“I see. So you ended up with the little one, too.”
“Yes. And they hate me.” Nie Mingjue coughed a little. “No, don’t deny it. They clearly hate me. They always cry and spit and yell -”
“They’re children, Xichen,” Nie Mingjue said. “Traumatized children. They do that.”
Lan Xichen didn’t need to open his eyes to know that Nie Mingjue was frowning in memory of pain long past. Lan Xichen remembered, with painful clarity, how young Nie Huaisang had been when Lao Nie had died, how badly he had taken it.
There’d been a lot of crying and vomiting and yelling there as well.
“You’re good with kids,” Lan Xichen said instead of commenting, trading delicacy for delicacy; he would not touch Nie Mingjue’s still-bleeding wounds just as Nie Mingjue avoided his own. “Very good.”
“Well, I like to think so, anyway.”
They remained in blissful, comfortable silence for a while.
“How would it have even worked?” Lan Xichen finally asked. His eyes were still closed, Nie Mingjue’s fingers running through his hair; he never wanted to move again.
“Hmm?”
“If you knocked me up before you went to war. I mean, they’re not even the same age.”
“Well, one of them’s from the affair, obviously.”
“I’m sorry, am I cheating on you now?” Lan Xichen opened an eye and pinned Nie Mingjue with a fierce look that instructed his lover to reconsider.
“Of course not,” Nie Mingjue said, mock-solemnly. His eyes were dancing. “You were so distraught after receiving incorrect news of my untimely demise that you conducted a ghost marriage with my spirit, and then went and had a child to continue my name.”
“…they’re both surnamed Lan.”
“So what? Are you saying I’m not good enough to marry into your sect, is that it?”
Lan Xichen’s cheeks were hurting from trying not to laugh. “I wouldn’t dream of implying such a thing.”
“There you go, then.”
“Can I ask why I felt the need to have a child to continue your name if I had one already?”
“…well, fuck,” Nie Mingjue said. “I’ve got nothing.”
Lan Xichen burst out laughing.

How to Woo a Lan pt1 / On AO3
Jin Ling is determined to court Lan Sizhui, but can't seem to say two words to him without insulting him. He decides that what he needs is the help of someone who has already successfully seduced a Lan, and he knows something about Nie Huaisang that others don't.
It had been, to put it mildly, a bit of a wild year. Jin Ling had gone from being treated as a child by everyone who met him and being barely mature enough to be trusted alone on a Night Hunt, to having to behave like a full grown adult because he suddenly was the leader of a cut-throat sect that was half falling apart after the early death of its corrupt former leader.
Fifteen was never an easy age, but Jin Ling was pretty sure he had it a little rougher than most people.
Of course, it could have been worse. For one thing, he could have been dead. In fact, he had come pretty close to it a few times, most memorably when he was kidnapped and trapped in the Burial Mounds with other juniors, and when his beloved uncle Jin Guangyao had used him as a hostage and threatened to cut his throat open with a guqin string if he wasn’t allowed to run away after it was revealed he had murdered a number of people, like Jin Ling’s grandfather, and indirectly caused the death of others, like Jin Ling’s father. And then after that there had been a handful of other attempts on Jin Ling’s life once he had become sect leader, because he had older relatives who thought they’d be better at the job, or who other people thought would be easier to corrupt… but really, those attempts just hadn’t been very impressive.
Jin Ling had been raised by Jin Guangyao, so he knew a thing or two about avoiding poison. And he’d been raised by Jiang Cheng as well, so even at his age, there weren’t that many adults who could pose a threat to his life, should they directly attack him.
All in all, the murder attempts hadn’t been so bad. The paperwork and meetings, on the other hand, were the worst thing ever. There were so, so many letters to read, and to analyse, and to answer. And then there were Night Hunt reports. Tracking the progress of junior disciples. Bills. An astonishing number of bills, oftentime for things Jin Ling didn’t even understand, so he had to ask during meetings what the sect was spending money on this time. There was a forty percent chance that it was something frivolous he could cut off, and a fifty percent chance that it was just barely concealed corruption, but since there was the ten percent possibility of that bill being something actually useful, Jin Ling still had to investigate every single one, just in case.
With all this going on, Jin Ling was lucky when he could find an hour here and there to meditate, or work on his cultivation, or train Fairy. He had considered skipping sleep from time to time, but Jiang Cheng had heard about it, somehow, and rushed to Jinlin Tai to scream at him about being irresponsible with his health, as if he were any better. Everyone knew Sandu Shengshou ran on two hours of sleep, medical pills, and rage… but apparently Jin Ling wasn’t alone to do the same. Unfair.
Equally unfair was the fact that in the six months between Jin Guangyao’s death and Jin Ling’s fifteenth’s birthday, he had only gone on two night hunts.
The first was… not so bad. Jin Ling had been forced to have some other Jin disciples come along, which was boring, but then they’d all met up with some Lan and with Ouyang Zizhen, which had been pretty nice. Not quite as nice as it could have been if a certain person had been there, but not quite bad either, because Jin Ling had been able to chat with Ouyang Zizhen who was smarter than he looked, and to argue with Lan Jingyi who was fun to have a shouting match with.
And then, there had been that second Night Hunt. Jin Ling, still dealing with the aftermath of a slightly more efficient assassination attempt after which part of Jinlin Tai had really thought him dead for a good shichen and a half, had stumbled upon a man who had come to beg for the help of his sect and decided he’d help with that. He needed a break from his murderous cousins anyway.
So instead, he called the worst asshole he knew to help him deal with this, for fun.
And Lan Jingyi, for some reason known only to him, decided to let Wei Wuxian come as well.
That was the first problem, Jin Ling later decided. If Wei Wuxian hadn’t been there, things would have gone better. But he just didn’t really know where he stood with the man who had, technically, caused both of his parents to die and whom Jin Ling had, technically, tried to murder in return. The man who had also saved his life several times, without any hesitation.
Lan Jingyi knew that Jin Ling had mixed feelings about Wei Wuxian, who he hadn’t seen since the death of Jin Guangyao. So he had to have asked him to come along on purpose, because Lan Jingyi was a damn asshole and Jin Ling hated his guts, for all that he was probably his best friend at this point.
It wasn’t hard to be the best of something when you were almost the only one.
Anyway, Jin Ling should have guessed that Wei Wuxian would get involved in this, so it wasn’t such a surprise.
But then…
Then, when he arrived at the agreed meeting point, Jin Ling saw Lan Sizhui.
It had been six months, almost. In all that time, Jin Ling hadn’t once gotten any news from the older boy. He’d asked Lan Jingyi during that one Night Hunt, and then again when Lan Jingyi had needed to crash in Jinlin Tai some weeks later, in vain. All Lan Jingyi knew was that Lan Sizhui had gone away with Lan Wangji’s blessing, and that nobody could tell when he’d be back… or if he’d come back at all for that matter, which Jin Ling had found rather ominous. Sure, Lan Sizhui’s father figure had officially married another man, and not the best of men at that, but was it reason enough to run away? Did Lan Sizhui hate Wei Wuxian in particular, or did he have a problem with all cut sleeves? In the first case, it was understandable. In the second case, Jin Ling’s heart would be crushed forever and he would never know happiness again.
But Lan Sizhui was there, and standing next to Wei Wuxian when Jin Ling arrived, chatting with a peaceful yet happy expression and looking quite animated, at least by Lan standards. Jin Ling had the sensation that the two of them hadn’t met in a while, which Lan Sizhui personally confirmed later when Jin Ling had a talk to him as well.
Six months wasn’t such a long time, and yet it had felt an eternity. Lan Sizhui hadn’t grown during that time away, not exactly, but he had a new air of maturity to himself, a certain spark in his eyes that said he had seen more than most others his age. He was a little less willowy as well, his clothes fitting differently on him compared to before, hinting at more strength than he used to have. His smile, though, remained as gentle as ever.
Jin Ling almost cursed upon seeing him.
It seemed he hadn’t gotten over his stupid crush at all.
Thankfully, for most of this, Jin Ling was too busy with the actual Night Hunt to make too much of a fool of himself. It was a pretty weird situation, with a haunted room in which a thief had died, which then led to a story about a man who had killed multiple women in a very gruesome manner. Jin Ling thought they’d handled that pretty well, really. He even got to be a little cool when he volunteered to stay the night in that haunted room to check if the ghost had really been taken care of.
Of course it hadn’t, and that was absolutely terrifying, but Jin Ling kept his cool and got to show off to all those Lan disciples in the morning when he recounted what had happened to him. He thought Lan Sizhui looked a little impressed, but that might just have been because he’d been so sure he’d solved the situation with Lan Jingyi the day before. And Jin Ling was also the one to realise the ghost they were dealing with must have been looking for a certain missing body part, which they needed to retrieve if they were to solve the case.
All things considered, Jin Ling thought he had done really great during this whole Night Hunt, and properly demonstrated to everyone, but especially a certain Lan in particular, what a great mature person he had become.
Of course Jin Ling had to ruin that.
It was just the sort of luck he had.
Jin Ling’s only defence was that he’d been exhausted at that point. They’d just spent five entire days looking for a tongue that had been cut off decades earlier, and although it would have been wise to get some sleep before all heading back to their respective sects… but they were young, they were victorious, and the only adult around to supervise them was Wei Wuxian who firmly believed that Lan juniors should be encouraged to misbehave. So of course they had all gathered at an inn, ordered plenty of food, more drink than reasonable (but that was because Wei Wuxian had to be bribed into silence) and had a bit of a party to celebrate their success.
Because Lan Sizhui had been the one to find the ghost’s tongue, everyone wanted to sit with him, it was only natural. Jin Ling had to glare and bare his teeth and elbow a few people so he could sit next to his friend, while Lan Jingyi easily found his place on the other side of Lan Sizhui by virtue of having known him basically since birth. A most unfair advantage, and one more reason to dislike Lan Jingyi, who was luckier than he had any right to be.
Lan Sizhui didn’t appear to notice how much attention was on him. Or if he did, he pretended it didn’t affect him. He just seemed happy to be spending time with everyone, and to no longer be searching around for that damn tongue. Lan Sizhui laughed at other’s jokes, blushed at their praise, made sure that everyone had enough to eat, and just generally behaved like the most perfect person the world had ever known, which he was. Jin Ling was so delighted to have him back around, and happy to see him so admired by everyone else, so of course he had to let it be known in the worst possible way.
“Of course it’s Lan Yuan who gets all the glory,” Jin Ling said at one point, while pouring himself some wine. “Isn’t it always like this? I’m sure some people must have been glad you disappeared for so long, leaving the rest of us a chance to do something. But now that you’re back, I expect it’ll all be about you, right?”
“What do you mean?” Lan Sizhui asked, his beautiful smile falling down.
Jin Ling frowned at the question. What he meant was that Lan Sizhui was, and by far, the best cultivator of their generation, so it was only natural for people to admire him. Sure some others might envy his great skill, but that was their problem, and now that Lan Sizhui was back in the Cloud Recesses, of course he’d gotten back his rightful place in the spotlight.
What else could he have meant?
“I’ve said what I said,” Jin Ling replied. “Don’t pretend you don’t know.”
Sure Gusu Lan valued modesty, but someone as great as Lan Sizhui had to know how good he was at everything, so there was no need to be so humble.
“Shut up or I’ll punch you,” Lan Jingyi threatened, his tone vicious enough to catch the attention of Wei Wuxian who’d been mostly ignoring the juniors in favour of his own jars of wine.
Even Jin Ling was startled. It was common enough for Lan Jingyi and him to argue. In fact, that was their main bonding activity, they were always bickering, but there was rarely any actual anger to it. If anything, Lan Jingyi usually seemed to enjoy that he had someone he could snap at who wouldn’t scold him for breaking sect rules. But that night, he suddenly looked earnestly furious, and it puzzled Jin Ling.
Must have been the wine, he figured. Those Lan just couldn’t handle alcohol.
“Don’t drink if you can’t deal with it,” Jin Ling said. “And don’t get angry at people just because they’re right.”
Lan Jingyi jumped to his feet, but before he could say anything more, Lan Sizhui grabbed him by the wrist and forced him to sit down away. He had to have put some strength into it, because Lan Jingyi immediately obeyed.
“Jingyi, that’s enough,” Lan Sizhui said, rather more dryly than Jin Ling was used to from him. “If that’s how Jin zongzhu feels, then that’s how it is. I hadn’t meant to be taking the spotlight in an undue manner, and I am sorry if I gave the impression I seek attention. In the future, when working with Jin zongzhu, I’ll be sure to keep my distance to avoid bothering him so much. I thought we’d work as a good team, but…”
Lan Sizhui stood up, fists clenched tight on either side of his body.
“If Jin zongzhu really hates working with me, then of course I’ll respect his choice. Now if you don’t mind, I think I’ll go to bed now. I’ve had a pretty long day.”
He turned away and left the room, leaving behind him a suddenly heavy atmosphere. None of the juniors spoke for a good while, most of them staring at the door through which Lan Sizhui had left. Jin Ling in particular was flabbergasted, scrambling to understand what exactly had just happened there.
At his end of the table, Wei Wuxian snickered as he poured himself more wine.
“You really get your people’s skills from your uncle,” he said, not quite looking at Jin Ling, but quite obviously directed at him nonetheless. “And not the right one for that, might I add. That’s something for you to work on, I’d think.”
“I’m not hearing that from you!” Jin Ling complained. “You’re a weirdo who makes everyone uncomfortable!”
“And yet I caught myself a husband,” Wei Wuxian retorted, wiggling his eyebrows in a manner that should have been illegal around impressionable young people. “Clearly I can’t be so bad at dealing with people. I can give you some lessons, if you’d like? Could teach out to flirt even. Hanguang-Jun thinks I’m very good at it.”
All the juniors shivered in fear at the idea of flirting lessons from Wei Wuxian. Even Lan Jingyi threw Jin Ling a sympathetic glance, before remembering he had randomly decided to be furious at his friend and glaring at him.
“Who… who’d want lessons from you about anything?” Jin Ling exclaimed. Then, because he tried to be fair, he added: “Unless it’s about Night Hunting. You’re good at that, when you stop acting all goofy. But for everything else, you’re too weird! If Hanguang-Jun didn’t have such weird tastes to begin with…”
The Lan juniors exploded at the implication their personal hero Lan Wangji was anything less than perfect in all aspects.
“Watch it, Jin zongzhu!”
“Hanguang-Jun’s tastes are excellent for almost everything!”
“It wasn’t enough to be mean to Sizhui, now you have to also go after Hanguang-Jun?”
That last one puzzled Jin Ling, who blinked numbly, trying to understand at what point, exactly, he’d been mean to Lan Sizhui. Before he could ask about that, Wei Wuxian started cackling and thanked all the juniors present for approving of his marriage. This backfired when it turned out that the boys were, in fact, very supportive of the union, and had drunk just enough to not feel ashamed about it. Wei Wuxian, always so quick to tease others with great declarations of affection at a bad moment, completely collapsed under that unexpected wave of affection, which pushed the Lan juniors to be even more demonstrative, until everyone’s attention was on Wei Wuxian.
Jin Ling took his chance and left the table without being noticed, suddenly needing some fresh air. He couldn’t go very far, in case others started to worry, but he still left the inn and started walking up and down the street where it stood, trying to put some order in his thoughts.
He didn’t think that he had been rude to Lan Sizhui, of course. Or at least, he had certainly not intended to be. But between intentions and results there could be a world of difference, and it was true that Jin Ling was sometimes… he tried hard, he really did. He wanted to be as smooth as Jin Guangyao had been (though with less secrets), and he wanted to be as respected as Jiang Cheng was (though preferably without needing to resort on inspiring fear quite as much). But he had a tendency to sometimes say the wrong thing.
More than sometimes.
Things would be quite clear in his mind, and then he opened his mouth and said something that pissed off everyone. It didn’t usually matter too much, because he was Lanling Jin’s sect leader, meaning he had enough money and power that people wouldn’t dare get angry at him too openly. But it had always been more of a problem when it came to his personal life. He’d gotten in many fights with his various cousins over the years because they deemed him rude and proud.
With juniors of other sects, he didn’t really get along all that well either, for the same reason, not until everything that happened in Yi city the year before… and even that had more to do with the people he’d met than with any personal improvement. Ouyang Zizhen was just the sort of person who got along with everyone, even with spoiled brats like Jin Ling. Lan Jingyi was an awful little pest, but he hadn’t been scared by Jin Ling’s status in the least, so they’d quickly found a way to co-exist, even if most people didn’t realise they’d become good friends. And as for Lan Sizhui… well, he was the most perfect person in the world, patient in spite of Jin Ling’s temper, kind to everyone, always striving to bring peace around him, always willing to see the best in others.
Jin Ling stumbled, and nearly fell face first into the dirt of the street.
Lan Sizhui had really looked upset when he’d left, so Jin Ling really must have said something wrong. The most perfect, most patient person in the world, and Jin Ling had managed to make him angry. That really wasn’t a good way to start courting someone.
And he wanted to court Lan Sizhui. Seeing him again after a few months had only made it clear to Jin Ling that this wasn’t just a crush, it was love. He was in love with Lan Sizhui, and determined to make him fall in love back… somehow.
What he needed was… what he needed…
Somewhere behind him, the inn’s door cracked open, just enough for Wei Wuxian to peek outside.
“Jin Ling, it’s getting late!” he shouted, uncaring that he might wake up the whole street. “Everyone’s going to bed and you should as well.”
“I’m not tired.”
“Don’t make me come get you,” Wei Wuxian warned. “Come, you’ll feel better in the morning. Just apologise to Sizhui at breakfast and he won’t hold it against you, he’s a good boy like that.”
Mortified at the idea that Wei Wuxian might try to drag him to bed like a petulant child, Jin Ling made his way back to the inn. He was annoyed though. He’d been on the verge of a great idea when Wei Wuxian had called for him, and now he’d lost it. Hopefully, he’d remember later.
Right then, he just went to sleep as ordered.
In the morning Jin Ling apologised to Lan Sizhui, though he still wasn’t sure what he’d said wrong, and Lan Sizhui apologised back for reacting so strongly to a little bit of criticism. Jin Ling hadn’t dared to say he hadn’t meant to criticise, because then he’d have had to explain he was trying to compliment Lan Sizhui, and everyone was there watching them, and it would have been too embarrassing.
The Lan then left to head back to Gusu, while Jin Ling had to return to Lanling to write a report on this situation they had solved.
The whole time he flew towards home, he couldn’t help but wondered if he hadn’t somehow managed to ruin his entire love life at the ripe age of fifteen, just because his mouth and his brain couldn’t get along.

I promised that I would share the convo me and @time-flies-by had earlier today regarding the Maleficent AU post, so here it is!
-
time-flies-by Dude that Maleficent AU-
angstymdzsthoughts I knoooow
angstymdzsthoughts It got a bit dark on me
time-flies-by It did, but goddamn was it good!
angstymdzsthoughts Right? I'm super happy with it
time-flies-by As you should! It actually gave me chills
angstymdzsthoughts WWX goes to sleep in his husbands arms, happy and in love. Wakes up to that husband mutilating him Thank you!!!
time-flies-by The best part, is that LWJ doesn’t even see anything wrong with it. He’s just like, “it has to happen”
angstymdzsthoughts Yep! Just another part of getting married to him
time-flies-by WWX definitely leaves understanding Madam Lan a lot better.
angstymdzsthoughts Oof LWJ grows up around spouses who seem perfectly happy with life after losing their wings And his mother, who still had her wings, was miserable So he thinks hes actually helping to make WWX happier
time-flies-by Double oof WWX really doesn’t understand what he was getting himself into.
angstymdzsthoughts Oh my god other spouses try to warn him (in a quiet subtle way so their husbands don’t get upset)
angstymdzsthoughts All the Lans are taught that this is a special, intimate experience between spouses
angstymdzsthoughts I feel like Su She is jealous that LWJ got to experience that and is vindictively happy when WWX ran away
time-flies-by Oh my god, the Lans all brainwashed into thinking that the tight smiles, and the tears are signs of love, when in reality their spouse is trying so hard to not hate them. Soakxldowkenenw fuxking Su She
angstymdzsthoughts The spouses are all trapped. Oh wait
angstymdzsthoughts The "soulmate" thing only happens once or twice in a generation and Madam Lan had been the most recent before WWX so the spouse around who tries to warn him away is an old woman who has been married and trapped in the CR for life 55 years That makes it so much worse
time-flies-by Oh my god, imagine wwx accidentally runs into the the wing room, and is absolutely horrified to find all the wings there, so he goes to lwj and is all like “Lan Zhan? What’s this?” And LWJ just goes “don’t worry Wei ying, I’ll make sure that never happens to you.” And what he means is “I’ll make sure your grounding isn’t as painful as theirs.” And wwx trusts LWJ 100%, but then their own grounding happens.
angstymdzsthoughts OOF Oh my god just rip my heart out
angstymdzsthoughts All I can picture is WWX crying and calling LWJ a liar before he's silenced Most disturbing part is how gentle and loving LWJ is being while hes Removing His Husbands Limbs Soft little praises and telling WWX that they will be happy together now
angstymdzsthoughts Ohhh WWX is totally gonna blame himself if he saw the wings and didn't immediately run Gets to Yunmeng like 'how could I be so stupid to believe him'
time-flies-by Ooh especially if the spouses before him tried warning him too.
angstymdzsthoughts Yes Exactly
time-flies-by WWX: The signs were all there. . . There was a red flag everywhere!
angstymdzsthoughts The way WWX sees it is like that 'face eating leopard party' meme Everyone else is just plain horrified
Tumblr media
time-flies-by Oof 😂
angstymdzsthoughts LWJ is crying in the CR asking what he did wrong Yunmeng Jiang is ready to start a war in order to get WWX his wings back
time-flies-by Omg yesssss The Lans are all clueless and offended because they see NOTHING wrong with their traditions.
angstymdzsthoughts Someone tries to put it in perspective for them. "How would you react if your spouse cut off your hands?" But the Lans dont get it and just dig their hole deeper. "Thats ridiculous! You Need hands! Wings are in no way a necessity."
time-flies-by Aish 😓
time-flies-by Yeah no, the Jiangs are definitely cutting all ties with the Lan after that.
angstymdzsthoughts The Lans argue that wings do nothing but make someone fickle and reckless and arrogant. They Need to be earth bound so they can learn stability and humbleness ... Oh my god... Horrible thought
time-flies-by Do tell
angstymdzsthoughts Some children of grounded spouses end up with wings too But they get them cut off when they are younger Should it be LXC or LWJ who use to have wings?
angstymdzsthoughts Spend their entire adolescence being ashamed of the wings and eagerly waiting for the day they can be removed
time-flies-by Oooh maybe LXC?
angstymdzsthoughts The most recent wings added are a pair of small white ones maybe half the size of WWXs and the sight of them make him run out because he may be sick
time-flies-by Oh god, what if there’s like, a whole room just full of children’s wings.
Angstymdzsthoughts Of course the Lans would keep them Ohhh WWX hears people talking about the grounding ceremony that will follow the honeymoon and has no idea what their all talking about He asks and the Lans explain that it's a sacred ceremony between spouses that truly binds the new spouse to the Lan family WWX is like- oh wow that sounds really great! Like a big 'welcome to the family'!
time-flies-by Oh no that make it worse! WWX is super excited for the ceremony. He’s like hyping himself up nonstop.
angstymdzsthoughts Oh with the Lan members with wings- they normally have a form of the grounding ceremony when they get their courtesy name and become a Real Lan. Lose your wings and get a name Oh my gooood WWX and LWJ go to bed that night talking about how the bonding ceremony will be tomorrow morning and LWJ assures him that he knows WWX will be perfect
time-flies-by Oh god no, I’m just imagining a bunch of children scared but super willing to lose their wings, because they’d been taught that having them made them everything the clan was against
angstymdzsthoughts WWX, cuddling close: What if I mess up and make a fool of myself? No ones really told me what to do yet. LWJ, petting WWXs wings lovingly: Don't worry, I'll take care of everything Exactly
time-flies-by Oooh I just got chills again
angstymdzsthoughts Something about LWJ touching and admiring WWXs wings in this context... 😨
time-flies-by LWJ: once I get rid of these, he’ll be all mine.
angstymdzsthoughts Touching wings isn't a normal thing outside of family (given that touching in general isn't normal in Chinese culture) but WWX was always super ok with friends petting his wings. He totally offered to let LWJ touch his wings when they were teenagers after catching him admiring them
angstymdzsthoughts LWJ hadn't felt a wing since his mother died shortly after her Binding and WWXs are a really beautiful glossy black color that turns a dark, rich purple if the light hits them just right. Of course he wants to touch
time-flies-by 😥😥
angstymdzsthoughts LWJ, cautiously running one finger along the feathers: They are so big... WWX: Of course they are! My wings have to be big and strong to carry me while I fly! LWJ immediately snatching his hand back, suddenly cold at the remainder that WWX can and will fly away far, far away from him
time-flies-by LWJ is really undermining the love WWX has for him by being that concerned that he’ll leave him.
angstymdzsthoughts He got brainwashed by his clan and he saw his mothers constant attempts to escape. Everyone around him said that the only reason she was trying to leave was because of her wings. If his own mother would leave him because of wings, what would stop WWX?
angstymdzsthoughts Madam Lan got way too close to actually escaping and QHJ was pressured into finally doing the ceremony. Madam Lan didn't last long after that
time-flies-by sent a post Source (****)
angstymdzsthoughts Hahaha
angstymdzsthoughts You know what would be worse? Baby A-Yuan with wings
time-flies-by Oh noooooo
angstymdzsthoughts Like au where LWJ didn't do the binding and unbrainwashed himself Then A-Yuan is born with wings and he grows up being told he won’t be a Real Lan if he keeps them So his parents have no plans of removing them but as his naming ceremony gets closer Yuan says he Wants to get rid of them WWX is immediately packing a bag and getting him and his son the hell out of there. LWJ is right behind him with another bag
time-flies-by Oof yes I like that
time-flies-by But like what if, the day before they leave or something, A-yuan runs to the elders and tells them about what his parents plan to do, and he’s so desperate to get rid of his wings that he asks them to just do the ceremony there and then
angstymdzsthoughts AAAAAAAAAA
time-flies-by When LWJ and WWX wake, they’re so stressed cause they can’t find A-yuan, but a few minutes later he comes in all proud and wingless
angstymdzsthoughts I mean since its Maleficent au wings are apparently magic and can be put right back on but Still Horrible WWX cries LWJ is gonna fight to get his sons wings back and then get his family the hell out of there Oh my god..... LWJ walking through a room full of tiny, near identical wings looking for the little pair that he would recognize anywhere
angstymdzsthoughts Let's a few tears out when he finds them. Remembers helping WWX clean and groom them and watching while WWX taught their son to balance and fly using those wings Hates himself for not seeing what his clan was doing to LSZ and not getting them away from all of it sooner
time-flies-by Codnekaoenen perfect
time-flies-by Heartbreaking, but perfect
angstymdzsthoughts Also, if things had gone according to plan and they left before LSZ did the Binding Yuan, struggling and crying: But I won’t be a Real Lan! WWX, throwing Yuan over his shoulder to carry him mid tantrum: Then you're gonna be a Wei. Lan Zhan, would you please carry this bag? LWJ, taking the bag: Mn. Wei Yuan sounds nice.
angstymdzsthoughts Then they go to Yunmeng so LSZ can grow up in a healthier environment
time-flies-by Oh I like your version better.
angstymdzsthoughts You brought the pain, I brought a bandaid
time-flies-by Haha yes yes, thank you
angstymdzsthoughts Oof tho. LWJ finds the wings and brings them home where WWX is guarding Yuan while he sleeps. They Return the wings while Yuan sleeps and return to making plans to go to Yunmeng once Yuan wakes When he wakes up and has his wings back he bursts into tears.
angstymdzsthoughts Could be because he really missed his wings and is glad to have them back or because this means he's gonna have to go through the grounding AGAIN and it really hurt the first time and he doesn't want to go through it again. Maybe both
time-flies-by If both, then WWX and LWJ will do their best to reassure him that he won’t have to go through the grounding ever again.
angstymdzsthoughts Aww little Yuan crying so hard he can hardly breath and bringing his wings around himself so he can pet and groom them because he needs to make sure this is real and their back
angstymdzsthoughts Oof. Imagine LXC seeing this and wishing he could have kept his wings. Goes to visit his wings and knows that they are too small to fit his body now that hes an adult so he's lost his chance
time-flies-by *sigh* we really should give LXC a break.
angstymdzsthoughts Never Ok how about he gets his wings back and even tho there too small because they never got the chance to grow with him and he'll never be able to fly hes so unbelievably happy WWX and Yuan teach him how to groom his wings correctly because the only person who ever did that was his mother and he cant quite remember how to do it
time-flies-by *sniff* family bonding time
angstymdzsthoughts He starts an arrangement with Yunmeng Jiang so he can send any winged Lans to them for half the year so they can learn that having wings Isnt the worse thing in the world
time-flies-by Oooh yes yes That’s good.
