DOUBLE TAKE (YJ)

synopsis: you weren't sure if you were mad about being a third-wheel or mad about Yeonbi's three thousand cell bodies galloping on your best friend's skin. Well, good for you, you are going to figure it out fast.

pairings: bestfriend! Jungwon x reader

When does a friend become a boyfriend.

You have been dreading that question for a long time, actually not. A week long perhaps. And it all began when your friend Minju asked you if there was something going on between you and your bestfriend, Jungwon.

You had chuckled loudly, denying," No, of course not. We are friends."

"Really? So it's okay for you if Yeonbi pursues him?", She adds, while eating her cake. "I mean, Yeonbi was just too loud about her liking Jungwon, back in the class you know... and that she is going to propose him. I was wondering if you would be upset. But I guess you aren't huh?."

"Yeah well, as you can see it's fine and I do not mind", You shrug.

You lied.

It's not fine, and you do mind.

Because why else would you be plotting Yeonbi's death in your head, as she holds on to your bestfriend, seemingly trying to flirt with him. You weren't checking onto Jungwon's expressions, because all your focus was on her hand wrapping around his elbow. That's three thousand fucking cell bodies all at once mingling together. Do we bury her six feet under the ground?

Okay, what the fuck.

That's not what you should be saying and that is so not normal. Literally, do not go insane. That's just your bestfriend and his single ass getting a possible girlfriend after all these years. You should be cheering and teasing them on.

"You look like you are enjoying yourself", You chuckled, trying to tease them. But, it ended up sounding very sarcastic. "No, I mean haha date already."

"You think so?", Yeonbi smiled, cutely and looked up at Jungwon. "We would make a very cute couple, won't we? What do you think Jungwoniee?."

Jungwon sighed, and for the first time in this hangout of three, you looked at him. He seemed very nonchalant. They might as well already kiss and make up. "I think not." Yeah look— wait what.

"I am sorry Yeonbi, but I feel really uncomfortable with the way you are holding onto me. I understand you like me, but I do not", Jungwon said, looking at her before averting his gaze towards you with a little smile playing on the corner of his lips. "Besides, I like someone else."

Were you dreaming or he was making it sound like that person is you? Nah, it can't be.

"Oh..". From the corner you could see Yeonbi sigh dejected. "I think I know who. I am sorry for making you uncomfortable. But I hope you both date each other soon! All the best." And with that, she took her bag and had already walked away.

You glanced at her fleeting figure as you found yourself impressed at her dealing with the situation so maturely. She didn't waste her time with someone who doesn't like her, and walked away. You felt so immature for thinking bad of her. That was a blatant flaw you possessed. "You missed the chance to date a really nice person", you muttered, still looking at the window, before averting your gaze to find Jungwon look straight at you. "Oh... that caught me off guard."

"Ah, sorry", Jungwon scrunched his nose, sipping his coffee still not taking his eyes off you.

The atmosphere soon went awkward which is weird because there is nothing to be really awkward about, is there? Yeah, not at all. So break the silence, break it.

"I didn't know you liked someone" Why didn't you just ask him if he wanted to visit a bookstore, why this question!

You sipped your coffee to avoid looking at him, as he answers.

"I like you"

Five words. You choked on your coffee.

"Here, water", He says, looking worriedly at you, and pats your head. "Careful on that."

You coughed slightly, drinking the water before slamming it down on the table and looked at him, breathless. "You like me? Like, me? M.e. me? Like are you sure, it's me and not someone who looks like me? Seriously, me?."

"No, your ghost."

"Weird taste. Weirdo. Alien. Monkey. Crocodile. Chimpanzee". Now you were just spitting random words just to avoid answering to his confession. You weren't even sure about them. Okay, you do realise you like him a little bit, and you would kill someone if they have their cells mingle with your bestfriend, but maybe that's just possessiveness and girls usually do have that according to that one weird 'sequels for girls' magazine.

You were so stupid, weren't you? Yeonbi was so mature about this and here you were being a coward. That's what you were, a fucking coward. Why can't you be just brave about your decisions. Why is it taking so much long to answer.

"Not everybody is supposed to be same"

You blinked, and looked at him slowly as he was smiling down at you. You weren't sure if he was an angel or something more divine, but you were captivated. It was all too overwhelming. "I am sorry", You whisper, immediately looking down. "I am not even sure about my feelings. You know I am very indecisive too. You sure you want to be with me? There are many good people out there you wouldn't want to miss out on."

And why does it hurt if he suddenly does end up dating one of them.

"Isn't it beautiful?", Jungwon said, bringing his hand to hold onto yours. "How we fall in love with a person despite their flaws? I think it is. And also you are forgetting that I am your bestfriend."

"But---"

"And I have seen the sides you don't want people to see", His eyes gleam, and you almost gape at him. "Yet here I am, again and again still so in love with you, and I want to be with you and cross the line."

"Jungwon....", your voice shaked. "I don't know. I am scared. What if."

"What if we fall in love even deeper. You are thinking about us leaving, but what if we get to experience something so loveable, hmm?", His eyes softened, as his hands hesitantly reach your cheeks to caress them. And you let him. "Take a risk with me", He mutters. "Once, please."

You closed your eyes instinctively, feelings his hand reach out to the corner of eyelids. You breathe out, a little shakily before opening your eyes again. You nod, seeing a small grin forming on Jungwon's lips.

"I will let you cross the line."

You were letting him cross a line that was already crossed long before you had let him. And though you were unknown about the future, something about Jungwon just made you want to be courageous, about not holding back.

"Let's fall in love", he says smiling, before bringing you close to him and hugging you tightly.
