jumping ahead in the timeswap au because i am the captain personally i headcanon jack not making it to 20. i think life had well and truly defeated him and he was too tired to keep running, and he ended up hanged for ross's murder.
side tangent a) imagine the emotional devastation the VDLs in modern era would feel reading that. there's a grainy photo/sketch and they can almost tell what jack looks like, how much he looks like john, how old he already looks at 19, and then there's the noose sitting on his shoulders waiting for the trapdoor to be pulled. the article portrays ross as a poor elderly man of honor killed by jack marston, outlaw, a dangerous sociopath
side tangent b) john and jack being reunited. john really struggling not to be angry because he wanted/expected so much better for jack: knowing he was never an ideal father (or even a good father) but how much he didn't want his son to be like him, how clear he had been to never become an outlaw. then, the grief. it's only been 3 years but being able to see how much those three years have changed jack, physically and mentally, just by the way he carries himself and that dead, destroyed look in his eyes. jack struggling not to be angry for a lot of the same reasons because at 16 he was left taking care of abigail as heartbreak and illness killed her, and a ranch they could barely take care of together. jack realising his mom, dad and little sister got to play happy family in current day without him.
well now that that's out of the way: dues-ex-isaac morgan
isaac morgan deciding jack marston is his personal responsibility. sure, the whole recipe of staying in a house for a few weeks slowly learning about the current day slowly works for most VDLs, but isaac understands that not only is jack 19 (a teenager) but the culture shock isn't quite as severe going from 1914 as it was 1899.
isaac throws rocks at the window until jack sneaks out his first night in modern day. he forces a helmet onto his head and gives a vague warning that 'it's going to be faster than a horse', before setting off at very illegal speeds on his motorbike
jack immediately loves it. it's very much what he needed: the adrenaline, feeling like he's rebelling, seeing the chrome and crowds of city as a blur become more and more recognizable in outdated suburbs until they're pushing 100mph on the highway
isaac strategically takes him out to the desert, because the desert really hasn't changed that much, and pulls out a bottle of whiskey. they lay down and trauma-bond about how fucked their lives have been (isaac, who experienced the timewarp like a child moving house and had to teach things to his 19th century mother, jack, who grew up in the chaos of the VDL gang with his mother as the only constant: deadbeat dads taken to the metaphorical extreme).
'there's only two things you really need to know: you can't buy alcohol until you're 21 and cigarettes are actually really bad for you' 'cigarettes are BAD??????'
isaac introduces him to cliche teenage emo music through a dodgy bluetooth speaker. jack marston actually listens to music for the first time
arthur getting a frantic phone call from john saying jack snuck out
charles offering to help track them down, because they immediately know isaac is involved
charles and arthur finding a drunk isaac and jack air guitaring to mcr in the middle of the desert
isaac and jack are instant best friends. instead of the coddling most of the gang do when something is new and initially intimidating, isaac laughs at him and it's honestly more comforting. like yeah, traffic lights take a hot second, but jack does feel dumb for not realising that the changing lights and loud beeping meant it was time to walk/run.
isaac literally doesn't hold his hand unless he has to, meanwhile jack has had months of living alone as an outlaw in 1914. they balance each other out in the worst ways. isaac will say they shouldn't walk through a dark alley and jack is like pfft if someone tries to mug us i can take them
their hangouts go from jack bookworm marston helping isaac study at college to isaac being the one calling his dad because 'heeey we might be in jail' in 3 hours. all parental figures involved are going grey with stress

Delena Fic Rec:
This is the hardest thing I’ve ever posted here lol.
Forever Mine: The night Damon Salvatore met Elena Gilbert changed the course of their destinies forever. But just as the future made itself known, the past caught up with them to destroy it all. Together on the run, Damon finds himself falling for this girl. Hard. But, Damon Salvatore doesn't love and he won't let her change that. No matter how much his soul...his body begs him to give in.
A Woman’s Worth:  AH/AU–Love hurts. This story takes on a literal meaning when Elena is a victim of abuse by her boyfriend. A journey of the silent sufferings of a girl with no one to turn to and unwilling to ask for help. Enters Damon, a social worker determined to rescue a damsel in distress and falling for her along the way. What is he willing to sacrifice in the end to save a girl he loves?
Tomorrow:  Will you be there beside me if the world falls apart? And will all of our moments remain in your heart? Will you be there to guide me all the way through? I wonder will you walk by my side and follow my dreams? With the Nazi reign of terror at its zenith, Damon and Elena form an unlikely friendship in WW2 era Czechoslovakia.
Where the Fireflies Dance: Elena just wants to forget. She moved away for college, and is trying to make a life for herself, when her roommate invites her to her family's ranch for a summer that could change Elena's life. Damon Salvatore is a flirt. But the only girl he's ever really loved is the daughter he's fighting for custody of. Then his sister brings home a friend for summer and everything changes.
Addictions:  When Elenas' life has been consumed by addictions, can anyone save her?- OOC,AU. *WARNING* Story contains strong language, substance abuse, graphic smut/lemons. For mature audiences only. Consider yourself warned.
Breaking Point: Elena wants to learn to fight compulsion. Damon's all-too willing to help, but will either of them be able to deal with the consequences?
Crying Lightening:  "I should have helped her. I should have done something. I deserve this. I deserve to die" - Damon is an 18 year old troubled lost soul with a bad reputation and Elena a 17 year old popular high school student who thought she had everything she ever wanted, that is until she got to know the eldest Salvatore and realizes that life is about more than being crowned Prom Queen! AU R&R
Casually Cruel:  AU/AH/ 'You're different, not the guy I used to know' -Maybe you never really knew me- 'Yes I did'. She knew the depths of his soul, loved and accepted every part of him. Now he's lost and he doesn't think she can find him and she's not sure she wants to.
Someone Like You: You fall in love, get married, fall in love again, get your heart broken. What if it got broken by a heart surgeon that never came back to fix it? Damon/ Elena - AU/AH
Echoes of the past:  Each of us has a past that shapes and defines us. Some pasts are filled with pain and heartache. Can Damon and Elena overcome their pasts to allow themselves a chance at happiness? Or will things from their past resurface to destroy their future? AU/AH Complete!
Forbidden Fruit:  Damon is friends with Grayson Gilbert. When he meets his daughter Elena, sparks fly. Considering the age difference and the fact that she is his friend's daughter, he tries to fight the pull every step of the way. Will he succeed in keeping her at bay?
Held Captive:  My favorite one shot I wrote last year, Re Published into a mini short story. Damon, a notorious War Lord captured the lovely, innocent Elena as part of his war games but things are not as simple as he'd thought. Set in medieval times.
I’d Kill Us Both:  AU/AH For years, Elena has been married to Stefan, but in love with his older brother, Damon, who left for the Marines shortly after the wedding. But now he's back, and not hiding his feelings. Will they finally have the chance to be together? And what if someone from Damon's military past followed him back home, putting them all in danger? Is love worth the risk?
Hopeless:  AU. AH. Elena has found that she likes her older sister Katherine's best friend Damon a lot more than she should. Little does she know he likes her more than he should too. Through the years things start to change between them, but if anyone found out they'd be in big trouble.
A Gentleman’s Agreement:  Possible S4 idea. VampElena has shut herself away from most of her friends, and the Salvatore brothers are at a loss over what to do. She is in for seduction and romance she never saw coming, but sooner or later a choice must be made. COMPLETED.
How Never Became Forever:  Elena's established rules and guidelines for her relationships. She knows how to stay emotionally detached and when to cut the cord. But then she meets Damon, who could potentially change everything. AU. AH.
Kiss Me, Break My Heart:  Elena Gilbert has been in love with her best friend Damon Salvatore for years, but when he asks her to help him win back the woman of his dreams, Elena decides she's had enough. Now Elena wants to move on, but Damon's not making it easy on her. AU/AH
Pretend You Love Me:  While their marriage is falling apart, Damon and Elena must learn to get past their demons or lose each other forever. AH/AU. Officially issuing an angst warning.
Auto In:  AU/AH /Life is wonderfully uncomplicated for Damon Salvatore. Take accident claims as a call center rep by day, charm his way into a new bed each night. Go to work, drink with friends, sex. Simple and straightforward and fun. Until a coworker, Elena Gilbert, makes him question whether some things are worth changing for. But is he the only one who needs to let go of a previous life?
Locked In a Loveless Marriage:  When Elena asks Damon Salvatore for a loan, he agrees on the condition that she marries him. What happens when she finds herself falling in love with a man who has told her he will never love her? AU. All human.
A Hymn For The Broken: AU Elena is a novelty. The only female werewolf to ever exist. She tries to stray away from the past, that turned her into a monster, but a string of grisly murders threaten, and she is called back home. Once reconnected with the Pack, and an old flame, Elena finds herself torn between two worlds. The normal life she'd made for herself, and the call of the wolf inside.
Physical Attraction, Chemical Reaction:  It all started with a night of hot sex. Where things could go from there to Elena and Damon? Could they fall for each other although they don't believe in love anymore? AU/AH
Never Break the Rules:  Handsome and tough, he had always done what needed to be done. He was supposed to be her knight in shining armour. He just never expected to be the one who needed to be saved… Ignoring swarming butterflies. Brushing off skipped heartbeats. Settling on lingering stares. Rules were never meant to be broken. What if there was a love that could break all the rules?
Love Lessons:  New to Mystic Falls High, Damon Salvatore is both excited and horrified to find he is falling in love with his student, Elena Gilbert. But what happens when they overstep the boundaries, and their friends and enemies discover their illicit secret?
Death is Just a Feeling:  "This life will be good and beautiful but not without heartbreak. In death comes peace, but pain is the cost of living. Like love, it's how we know we're alive." – Elena Gilbert ***HAPPY BIRTHDAY Short on words***
The End of Paralysis:  Enter Elena Gilbert, 24, hardworking, lovely, and insatiably in love with her long time best friend, Damon Salvatore. Can she make him see that they belong together? Delena. AH/AU.
Lucky 13:  AU/AH: Mistaken for a glamorous, selfish woman named Katherine Salvatore, the badly injured Elena finds that plastic surgery has given her Katherine's face, the famos Damon Salatore for a husband and a powerful dynasty for in-laws.
It’s A Boy Girl Thing:  Based off the movie with the same name, an ancient curse is awakened and cast upon Elena and Damon. The results cause them to switch bodies, waking the next day in the body of not only the opposite sex, but the last person they ever wanted to switch bodies with. A hilarious battle of the sexes ensues, but eventually they wonder if they'll ever get their own body back. ALL HUMAN D/E
Somebody I Used To Know:  Grieving the sudden death of their parents, Damon and Elena are forced to face their past choices and mistakes. Take a wild a journey through 20 years of their lives...together, apart and everything in between.
Sweet and Sexy Mistakes:  An expert on the dynamics between men and women, Damon Salvatore knows his uptight new publicist could use his help getting a date. The only problem is, the more time he spends with her, the more he realizes he doesn't want her dating anyone but him!
To Save A Sinner:  AU/AH: Damon Salvatore, the new star swimmer and transfer student at MFU, befriends the dark and mysterious Elena Gilbert, a girl the rest of Mystic Falls considers crazy. When he discovers the deep, haunting secrets she keeps from the world, can he handle the truth or will it cost him his heart and even possibly, his sanity?
Through The Ghost:  Damon, a carefree soldier & Elena, a no-nonsense physical therapist at an Army base met under ordinary circumstances. Stuck between attraction and resistance, they struggled to define their relationship until fate made the decision for them. 4 years later a heartbroken Elena battles to make good on a promise when she discovers nothing but the shell of the only man she's ever loved.
Maybe Less, Maybe a Little More:  Vampire Damon and Human Elena meet in a snowstorm. He wants to kill her and she is instantly attracted to him. What will happen over the next ten years? Fic for the A2A x-mas exchange. Non-canon, Oneshot, Delena endgame, rated M for sexual content and some gore. ENJOY THE DRAMA MYLOVES! :D
Do You Believe In Angels:  "Damon?" She asked. He looked at her, waiting. She took a shaky breath, "Do you believe in angels?" "No," he said, "Not anymore." . . AH/AU: Two children with tragic pasts meet at a refuge. Hurt and alone, they clinge to each other to survive. This is their story, and everyone involved along the way.
Alcohol:  Damon's drunk and she looks like Katherine. Elena's drunk and he smells like Stefan.
Memory Serves:  Elena accidentally asks for her soul mate. What happens when magic delivers 1864 Human Damon? How will the Vampire Salvatore brothers deal? Vampire Damon is tortured by intimate memories of Elena. He feels so close yet far away from her. AU1x14 - COMPLETE -
Desperate Love:  A whole different version of Season 4, without sire bonds or dead brothers. A meditation on the nature of love, free will and morality in an imperfect world, through: suspense, romance, steam, angst, and friendship. Tons of Delena as well as Stefan/Caroline/Klaus, Jeremy and Ric, too. Lemons!
The Valentine’s Day Corruption of Damon Salvatore:  This is my fic in response to the prompt by Ciara 2531 for the A2A Valentine Exchange on Live Journal. As always, it's rated M for a reason...
The Best Man: Damon and Elena meet at a wedding, which ends hotter than anyone would have thought.
Insanity Is Beautiful:  They called him crazy, insane even. People feared him and avoided him at any cost, even in the asylum. So what is Dr. Elena Gilbert supposed to do when she not only takes this insane monster as a patient, but falls in love with him, and him with her? (this one is only this low on the list because it’s incomplete)

I didn’t think of writing a post about one of the 15 or so shows that I’m watching/catching up on at the moment, especially not about Fear the Walking Dead, which sure isn’t one of my favorites. But after finishing season 3 (which many people have told me was the show’s best season, but which I found a very mixed bag) I need to have a rant. I felt very ranty throughout season 3, all because of the treatment of one character, which feels like something that isn’t specific to this show. Yes, I know I’m gonna be ranting about storylines that most other people saw 3 years ago, but here it is anyway.
(Note: I’ve only just finished season 3 and I know only a couple of spoilers about the following seasons.)
Also, yes, I know I’m a dummy for even trying to watch another show in this franchise and expecting better results. I guess, even after dropping The Walking Dead halfway through season 8 (at least 2-3 seasons too late), I still haven’t been weaned fully. (A bunch of people have been telling me that TWD got much better with the new showrunner; however, since I’m aware that SPOILER Negan is still alive and got some sort of a “redemption arc”, no, thanks, I have absolutely no desire to go back to that.)
Season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead remains my favorite season of this show - and it was also, not coincidentally, the one that was the most different from The Walking Dead, focusing on the family dynamics and the early days of the outbreak in the city.
Season 2 was very messy, and 3 was somewhat better than season 2, but it also had even more of the worrying trends of doing a lot of the same crap that TWD does, particularly with
1) killing off so many of the original main characters that it destroys the entire premise - the entire Manawa family has been killed off now (Travis' death particularly angered me - though I've since heard it was done for the stupid Avatar sequels), Ofelia got killed off just as she had become more interesting, which makes Daniel the only survivor of his family, too (then they also killed his substitute daughter Lola) and the spoilers about those other 2 deaths make it all even worse.
2) all the TWD-style gratuitous mass killing off of every new group we meet. It especially doesn't look good how easily they killed off the entire colonia, mostly off-screen, in the premiere. At least the white people from the ranch (and an occasional Native American who happened to be in that group) got death scenes and names, but who cares about mass killing of a bunch of Mexicans, right?
Daniel still being alive was my favorite thing about this season and restored my interest in the show after I got upset by the killing off of Travis and the people from the colonia. Alicia got more interesting this season and had some strong episodes, and I'm glad that at least Walker and Crazy Dog are still alive.
But after a while, I got increasingly annoyed at the ranch storyline, and the reason can be summed up in one word: Troy.
Now, Troy himself is not a bad character - he is a really well acted villain, like a grown up Joffrey Baratheon. But the way people around him kept mollycoddling and covering up for him made other characters so much worse, and I mean mainly Nick and Madison.
The only thing that redeemed this arc was Madison finally killing Troy in 3x15, after he revealed he led the horde to the ranch and made it clear he didn't regret anything he had done and said he'd do it again.  I thought she was going to just punch him, so I was even happier when she killed him with a hammer.  At least that's one thing that I've been relieved about - no "redemption arc" for Troy, thank God! He won't be the new Negan!
The only problem - she should have done that so much earlier. She annoyed me earlier in the season when she covered up for him in front of the ranch people, for the murder of the family, blaming Walker, justifying it with "Walker's people killed Travis". Hello? Troy tried to murder Travis, threw him to fight against a bunch of zombies, and if Travis had survived, well, I don't think Jeremiah and most of the people at the ranch would've been happy to see him (were there not enough signs they were racist)?  She also had zero reason to convince Walker not to kill him and not to kill him when she took him to 'exile' and he immediately killed a man and she still went "I don't want to kill you' - why? Just kill him! I roll my eyes whenever a villain is 'exiled' in a post-apocalyptic show, you always know they're going to come back and cause trouble. Just kill him or keep him imprisoned if you don't want to kill him.
But then Nick got even worse. The entire 'friendship' he had with Troy was such BS. We were apparently supposed to think that both Nick and Madison see some sort of a parallel between Troy and Nick, like "they're both black sheep of the family". Is the show saying that being a drug addict is the same as being a deranged unrepentant serial murderer? Disgusting.
This clearly can't be about morality etc. since they don't seem to care nearly as much about all of the people Troy murdered or got killed throughout the season. He really caused 90% of the deaths and it kept happening, and I wondered, just how many people need to be sacrificed at the altar of the deranged white boy that they keep protecting because he has a sad backstory or something? He almost murders Nick and his girlfriend, murders the people Nick lived with in the colonia and led there, promising them safety, and then Nick gets all buddy buddy with him? WTF.
*rant over*
Character rankings as of the end of season 3: 1. Daniel 2. Strand 3. Alicia 4. Liza (either you die early, or you live long enough for the show to make you annoying) 5. Travis (would've been higher if it wasn't for some questionable writing at the end of his arc) 6. Walker 7. Lola 8. Crazy Dog  (not enough characterization yet, but he's been good so far in what I've seen. Also, he's hot :)  9. Madison (fell a lot in the rankings during season 3, only got better towards the end_) 10. Ofelia (just going by season 3, she'd be higher, but she was kind of bland in seasons 1-2) 11. Luciana (mostly gets to be here because of how annoying the show has made Nick, and because she was smart enough to leave) 12. Nick (Why does the show go from making me like Nick to making him annoying by making him cozy up to the most hateful villains (Celia in season 2 and Troy in season 3)? ) 13. Chris (I still don’t know WTF they were doing with him; if the end goal was to make him a villain, they shouldn’t have killed him off and should’ve kept him as an antagonist)

Relationship Ask Meme
tagged by @ariestals I’m not gonna tag anyone this time around just cause I did this meme recently
So I guess I gotta choose a new couple for it
Tumblr media
And of course it’s gonna be Rush and Griffin
DISAGREEMENTS:
Who is more likely to raise their voice? Griffin is, although he rarely would raise his voice at Rush.
Who threatens to leave but never actually does? Neither
Who actually keeps their word and leaves? Neither
Who trashes the house? If something pisses Griffin off enough he may slam something but I don’t think a full on destroying the place kind of thing would happen. He usually storms off when he’s mad so he can cool down and think more clearly.
Do either of them get physical? Nope!
How often do they argue/disagree? Very rarely. Their disagreements that they get, before and after they got together, are usually about how one of them handled a situation, and most of the time with those the other tends to realize their wrong doing before their disagreement turns into a full blown argument.
Who is the first to apologize? Griffin. He hates arguing with the people he cares about, and he’d want to resolve it as soon as possible.
SEX:
Who is on top? Rush
Who is on bottom? Griffin
Any kinks? Just like with the Anna May and Hudson one, I did not give them kinks cause I don’t think about the sexual stuff in my OCs relationships, unless the topic is brought up, I guess.
Who has the strangest desires? IDK
Who’s dominant in bed? Rush
Is head ever in the equation? Yes
If so, who is better at performing it? IDK
Ever had sex in public? Nope
Who moans the most? Griffin
Who leaves the most marks? Rush
Who is the more experienced of the two? I’d say they’re about equal
Do they ‘fuck’ or ‘make love’? Still don’t know the difference
How long do they usually last? IDK
Rough or soft? both
Is protection used? yes
Does it ever get boring? Nope
Where is the strangest place they’d have sex? Probably in a partially collapsed house somewhere cause I don’t think there’s almost any real houses post Collapse.
FAMILY:
Do they plan on having children/or have children? Rush has his daughter and if they wanted more kids, both of them would be up for it.
If so, how many children do they want/have? They have Mila right now, they wouldn’t mind another child or two.
AFFECTION:
Who likes to cuddle? Both of them Mainly Griffin
Who gets naughty in the most inappropriate of places? Rush probably
Who struggles to keep their hands to themself? Griffin, he’s always trying to hold Rush’s hand
How long can they cuddle until one becomes uncomfortable? For hours. Rush would be the one who’d get up first.
What is their favourite non-sexual activity? They love laying next to eah other and talk about just anything.
Where is their favourite place to cuddle? In bed or on the couch, their partial to both.
How often do they get time to themselves? Most of the time at night, but they can sometimes find time during the day to have some time for theirselves. With the Highwaymen being a thing, it’s hard to make a day date, but they can enjoy small things at Prosperity or Roughneck Creek.
SLEEPING:
Who snores? Griffin, but not often
If both do, who snores the loudest? N/A
Do they share a bed or sleep separately? Share a bed!
If they sleep together, do they cozy up together or lay far apart? Cozy up!
What do they wear to bed? Griffin usually either sleeps in his boxers or pajama pants with a t- shirt and Rush wears those PJ shorts with a t-shirt, or sometimes shirtless.
Are either of them insomniacs? Griffin is, but after he started having his “getting murdered horrifically by Mickey” dreams, he tries to force himself to stay awake because they scare him that much.
Can sleeping pills be found by the bedside? Rush would put some there for Griffin but he doesn’t take them often.
Do they wrap their limbs around each other or just lay side by side? It’s like the most cuddlyest cuddle pile you can possible imagine.
Who wakes up with bed hair? GRIFFIN
Who wakes up first? Griffin, sometimes in the middle of the night and he would just lay there until morning.
Who prepares breakfast in bed for the other? They alternate, although usually Griffin beats Rush to it
What is their favourite sleeping position? They don’t really have one
Do they set an alarm each night? Nope
Who has nightmares? Both of them do, but Griffin’s last longer and are worse.
Can a television be found in their bedroom? No TV in the apocalypse
Who has ridiculous dreams? Rush does, but it’s hard for Griffin to have dreams when he doesn’t wanna sleep
Who sprawls out and takes up most of the bed? Griffin. There have been times where Rush has woken up with him spread out like a starfish, fast asleep.
Who makes the bed? Neither of them XD They don’t usually
What time is bed time? When they’re both tired, usually between 9-12
Any routines/rituals before bed? None!
Who’s the grumpiest when they wake up? Griffin
MISCELLANEOUS:
Do they live in the city or in the country? City, they both come from Sacremento, California, their stay in Hope County is just until the Highwaymen are gone, although they do plan to frequently visit.
Do they enjoy their surroundings? They are! Rush is incredibly happy with what they have built and Griffin is happy to be apart of Rush’s dream and to have met the people he knows now because of it.
What do they do when they’re away from each other? Griffin is usually away from Rush when he is out doing something for Prosperity or New Eden, but he would be thinking about how he is doing a lot. Rush would be busy making sure Prosperity is up to shape, that old ranch held off one siege and he’s hoping he can make it live through another.
Where did they first meet? In the summer of 2020 in Galena, Illinois. Rush’s group, back when it was still small, was heading to Sacremento after a failed attempt of starting reconstruction east. Griffin was there because he was a drifter and didn’t have anywhere to go. Griffin had gotten into a fight in a bar which I didn’t have explanation to why he was in one cause he doesn’t drink alcohol and was thrown out. He saw Rush being followed by some guys in an alley way and they both saved each other from being beaten up and mugged XD Rush liked Griffin’s fighting spirit and asked him to join, and everything continued from there...
Any mental issues? They both have depression and PTSD
Who finds it amusing when the other trips over? Rush does, but not in a making fun of way.
Who’s terrified of bugs? Neither of them!
Who kills the spiders around the house? Both do
Do they have any fears for their future? Griffin has a horrible fear that some day in the future in his words Rush is going to wisen up and realize he could do better and leave him, but not just end their relationship, but also their friendship, because Griffin treasured that more than anything and the idea that Rush wouldn’t even want his company anymore scares the shit out of him. Rush is scared that the Twins are going to have Griffin killed in a horrible way like they tried to kill him cause in case you couldn’t tell I’ve been answering this as if Rush didn’t die at the plant or Joseph’s prophecy is more sinister than he has been letting on and that something bad is going to happen to him.
Their favourite place? Prosperity, mainly, because it’s safe and they have their friends there
Who’s more likely to surprise the other with a fancy dinner? Rush is, although Griffin would try to get him back with breakfast in bed the next day.
Who’s the tallest? Griffin, he’s 5′6′’ and my headcannon height for Rush is 5′2′’
Who’s more likely to just randomly hop into the shower with the other? Griffin is, he’s not shy
Who sings the loudest when singing along to the radio? Rush. Griffin has a nice voice but hes not the most musically invested, unless it’s Hozier.
Who crushed first? This ones kind of tricky cause, unlike with Anna May and Hudson who, in Anna May’s case, was crush at first sight, they didn’t arrive to Hope County secretly pinning for each other. Rush kind of realized his feelings for Griffin may be something more than how you typically feel about a friend when he first rescued him from the mines, but he didn’t think those feelings really were romantic attraction until he spent more time with Griffin afterwards and realized that those feelings were not going away. For Griffin, it was a slow buildup, that didn’t turn into something he was fully aware of until after Prosperity's final upgrades were in place.

I Won’t Hesitate (for you) Chapter 4
Chapter 4: You can be (my saving light)
In this chapter: In the past, Michael and Alex grow closer. In the present day, Alex meets the first of the passengers in his attempt to unmask the murderer. Alex and Michael have trouble being around each other.
A/n: This chapter is where we earn the M rating! And I took two of the most heartbreaking and soft moments from the show and managed to write it into this AU, I'm very happy about it!
As always, a special thanks to Aileen (@acomebackstory), Callie (@callieramics), @hm-arn, @royalshadowhunter and @ladymajavader over on Tumblr for their continued support and cheerleading. I don't know if I would've finished it without you guys!
Last week's chapter was titled "Do not try me, devil devil" and it was taken from the song "Devil Devil" by MILCK and this was guessed correctly by @Lire_Casander! Thank you for reading and great job!
Can anyone guess this week's title and performing artist?
Also on: ao3
other chapters: 1 2 3
June, 1924
Alex was lying underneath the tree on the schoolyard, the sun warming his face pleasantly. He was eating an apple, just as when he’d first met Michael.
A lot had changed since then.
Michael and Alex had become…friends, to a kind. In a way only abused children can become friends; as fellow victims, wary of all human contact, even each other’s. But they had found a comfortable routine between them, one that kept them both sane and kept Alex away from his father’s house for as much as possible.
After school they studied together in the library, to which his father could hardly protest. He always criticized Alex for his grades; Alex stepping up his studying by spending hours in the library could only please him. If Alex was ever truly able to please his father. On weekends Alex went to help out on the Foster’s Ranch, where Old Foster had enough work for the two of them. His father didn’t approve of Michael, but Alex never mentioned him and simply pretended they never even crossed paths.
But now the holidays approached, and Alex was nervous. He was afraid the Foster’s Ranch wouldn’t provide him with enough of an excuse to be away from home as much as possible. These last few months had been almost bearable at home. Only rarely did Jesse Manes have a reason to beat Alex anymore. Alex was afraid with the extra free time, the beatings would increase too.
“You can always come stay at the ranch indefinitely,” Michael suggested, plucking away on the old guitar he’d gotten from Old Foster. Michael had taken to bringing it to school and play for Alex while Alex stared at him admiringly.
Alex scoffed, “Yeah, my father would love that. His personal boxing ball living away from home at sixteen? He would have to pay for an actual boxing ball, that might just kill him.”
Michael shot him a look that clearly said, then perish, but said nothing. He continued to play instead. Alex hummed along, closing his eyes against the bright sunlight. Michael’s guitar playing always managed to relax Alex in a way no other music was able to. Maybe because it was music straight from the source (Michael). Or maybe it was the source itself (Michael).
Either way, his body relaxed slightly. “I’ll survive. I have for fifteen years in that hell hole. I will for another two.”
Michael’s hand slipped from the strings and a truly horrible off-key tone came from the guitar, making Alex wince. “Two?”
“Yeah. I’m going into the army when I’m seventeen. Just like my hero brothers and my highly decorated father.” He tried to keep the bitterness to a bare minimum.
Michael frowned, picking up where he left off in the song, but with less gusto. “The army? You even want to go?”
Alex opened his eyes and met Michael’s dark eyes. Michael looked genuinely upset, and Alex felt his heart twinge. “No. The army is everything I don’t want.” He sat up, the warmth of the sun seeping out of his body like he’d just been dunked in ice water. “But since when do I have a choice?” He started pulling on the grass, yanking it out by the handful and flinging it away from him. “Besides, when I’m in the army, at least I’ll be away from my father. And I’d do anything to be away from him.” Tears stung in his eyes and he wiped them away angrily.
Michael’s warm hand suddenly enveloped the one angrily destroying the grass, stilling his movements. Alex froze. Michael’s touch still sent a shock through Alex’s body. Every time the two of them touched, either for a hug or a high five or any other touch, Alex would feel a bolt of electricity spreading from the place he was touched to the top of his head and the tips of his toes.
It confused and frustrated him. He didn’t know what it meant, why his body reacted that way to a man. He’d read plenty of books to know men often reacted like this to women. Alex did not recognize that feeling, that much he knew at least.
“Here,” Michael said, pulling him from his frustrated brooding. He held out his guitar to Alex, looking at him expectantly. “You’ll need at least some skill to impress those military assholes, so you might as well learn a bit of guitar.”
Michael always did this. Whenever Alex began to pull back into his head, when fear began to take over, when things seemed at their absolute worst, Michael would pull him out of it with a quip and a distraction. After 7 months of friendship, Michael knew Alex better than his own family did. Michael felt safe in a way Alex had never felt with anyone, except maybe his mother.
He smiled and took the guitar, placing it on his knee. Michael chuckled, took it from him and turned it around. “You’re a righty, Alex. That’s the one you’re going to use to actually produce the music.” Michael positioned Alex’s hands like a professional. Alex felt awkward and his fingers kept slipping. Michael chuckled again. “Alright, here.” Before Alex knew what was happening, Michael was sitting very close, one arm slung casually across Alex’s shoulder as his hand helped Alex’s find a comfortable position. Alex felt heat rise to his cheek and he lost track of Michael’s words for a second, as all he could feel was Michael’s exceptional warmth pressed against his side and his rough fingers positioning Alex’s own carefully. “Okay, so this is G. Together with E minor, C and D, the easiest chord to learn. Press down on the strings hard, otherwise the tone will be flat, like now.” Michael ran his right hand across the strings and indeed, the tone fell flat. Alex pressed his fingers harder against the strings. It hurt, but it was a pleasant kind of pain; like he was earning the good notes. “Alright, now you try. Just go from the top to the bottom with your fingers.”
His wrist aching, his fingers screaming against the sting of the metal, Alex pressed down on the strings as hard as he could and brought his fingers from the top string to the bottom string. It did not sound half-bad. Michael smiled encouragingly, and Alex tried a few times, the chord sounding surer and clearer every time. Alex felt his face stretch into a smile as he tried different strumming patterns, taken from memories of Michael playing.
After that Michael taught him two more chords, and suddenly he was playing an actual tune. “There you go!” Michael said, smiling brightly when Alex managed three chords successively without pausing to think. “You might be a natural.”
Alex looked up at him to thank him, but the words stuck in his throat. Michael was still so very close. Their legs were pressed together and if Alex moved forward an inch, their heads would collide quite painfully. Michael’s eyes were large as they stared at each other, both apparently at a loss for words. Alex felt like he might drown in those eyes if he didn’t look away soon, but something stopped him from actually breaking eye contact. His stomach was doing several summersaults, and he felt his cheeks start to burn. They were sharing the same air now. “Thank you,” he managed to croak out finally.
Michael smiled, his eyes flicking to Alex’s mouth for a second before looking back into Alex’s eyes. Alex did not look away.
And then Michael’s lips were on his.
Time stopped.
The world faded away.
All Alex knew anymore was Michael’s lips pressed on his, and one of his rough hands sliding ever so gently up to rest in his neck, his fingers burning against Alex’s skin. Before Alex knew what he was doing, he was kissing Michael with just as much passion, both his hands coming up to grab Michael by the collar, pulling him closer, then letting his hands drift into Michael’s curls.
Doubts and confusion were gone. Alex was sure of only one thing, and that was that he wanted Michael to keep kissing him. That he would do almost anything for Michael to never stop caressing his face, for Alex’s fingers to never leave Michael’s hair.
They had to come up for air though, and the broke apart with a gasp. They were breathing heavily. Michael’s pupils were dilated to a point his eyes looked almost black and he looked absolutely astonished. Alex knew the feeling. “Have you…” Alex began, but had to take several breaths before he felt steady enough to continue. “Have you ever done that before?”
Michael laughed, a little breathless. “Yeah. Yeah, but never…”
“Never with a guy?” Michael nodded and they both burst into giggles. “Yeah, me too.”
“Is this okay?” Michael asked, pressing his forehead against Alex’s, his hands still in Alex’s neck, the same way Alex’s fingers were still firmly tangled in Michael’s hair.
Alex nodded feverishly. “More than okay. Yeah. Yup. I mean. Wow.” They both laughed again, and then they were kissing again. They sank into the soft grass and they spent the rest of the afternoon tangled up, exploring each other and expanding their relationship beyond what either of them had dared to dream.
The guitar lay forgotten next to them.
Present day, 20th October, 1935
Alex was sitting in the dining carriage. Beth Otto had volunteered to help Isobel clean herself up before talking to Alex, and Alex was waiting for the both of them to return. He flipped through his notebook, trying to piece together what little he knew.
Noah Bracken killed Rosa Ortecho fifteen years ago. He was accused but acquitted on accounts of no evidence. Fifteen years later, Rosa Ortecho’s murderer becomes the victim of a murder himself. Murdered on board the Orient Express, in a locked cabin, with only his wife in the cabin with him. The wife is the obvious suspect. However, the time of death roughly corresponds to the train’s stop in Vinkovci, and combined with an unexplained open window whilst the coldest autumn in years was sweeping through Europe, it was also very possible a murderer had slipped aboard the train in Vinkovci, murdered Noah Bracken and escaped through the window before the train departed again. But what is the meaning of the burned newspaper clipping? A message? A covering of tracks? Maybe a private detective on board spooked Noah Bracken? And how to explain the dozen or so vastly different wounds?
Alex had the feeling he was missing something very vital, but he did not despair yet. He had not talked to any of the passengers. Right now, they were his suspects.
“Hey,” a soft voice startled him out of his thoughts. Alex looked up to see Michael standing by his table. His hands were in his pockets and he was looking bashful, looking at him through his curls. He looked beautiful.
Alex shook his head slightly and shot him a brave smile. “Hey.”
“Mind if I sit?” Michael said, placing his hand on the back of the chair across from Alex. Alex nodded and Michael sat down. It was strange to be so close to Michael without any discomfort between them. They looked at each other for a while, Alex feeling his shoulders relax slowly. “You okay, Alex?” Hearing his name from Michael’s lips like that, in that soft, concerned voice made Alex nearly melt. He’d always been weak for Michael, and ten years of separation had evidently not changed that.
Alex sighed. ‘Yeah,” he said, then shook his head, “it’s a weird case.”
Michael nodded, never taking his eyes off Alex’s face. Alex was suddenly very aware of his hands lying on the table next to his notebook. Michael’s elbows were on the table as well and Alex had half a mind to take his hands.
But he’d lost that right when he walked away a decade ago. It was no use dwelling on it now.
“So how’ve you been, Alex?” Michael asked finally.
Alex shrugged. “You know. Went to war. Got my knee shot to hell. Nearly died. Then went into the private investigator branch. Turns out I’m pretty good at it.”
Michael chuckled. “You always were able to spot the little details.” The fondness in Michael’s voice completely threw Alex. After the cool demeanour Michael had held towards him since they ran into each other, this was the last thing Alex expected.
“How have you been?” Alex almost feared the answer. It opened the window for Michael to really go off on him.
Michael surprised him yet again, however. “It was really bad for a while, after high school. No job, no family…but then my siblings found me.”
“The ones who got adopted and had to leave you behind in that foster home?”
Michael nodded. Alex heart clenched with joy for Michael. He and his sister and brother had been found by the side of the road as small children. Michael had been an unruly child, and when his siblings got adopted, the adoptive parents refused to take Michael home as well. It had left Michael deeply scarred, leading to his early alcohol and nicotine abuse and overall delinquent behaviour. Though he’d usually managed to stay within the lines of the law. Usually. “Yeah. Turns out they had been trying to find me for a few years, but since I ran away from that last foster home, nobody knew where I was. But they found me, a year or two ago. We’ve been growing closer ever since then. It’s been really great reconnecting with them.”
“Michael, that’s amazing,” Alex said, and before he knew what he was doing, he had grabbed Michael’s hand. Michael barely flinched, just turned his palm upwards and stroked Alex’s hand with his thumb. Alex returned the gesture in kind. Just like that, Alex was back under their tree, looking at Michael for the first time after their kiss. A full decade had not been enough to make him forget how he felt for Michael. In some ways, nothing had changed between them.
But in other ways, everything had changed.
Alex swallowed hard, closed his eyes and gathered his courage. “Michael, I’m sorry. But I have to ask. Where were you around 3am?”
Michael’s movement stilled and the atmosphere became absolutely frosty. “Seriously?” Michael asked, jerking his hand back. Alex’s hand remained behind on the table, feeling cold. He shivered slightly. “We’re having a moment here, trying to fucking reconnect, and you want to know if I have an alibi? You honestly suspect me?”
Alex clenched his eyes shut. God, he had the worst timing in the world. “I’m really sorry, Guerin, I really am, but I have to know. The carriage was locked on all sides. You were one of only 8 people who could’ve done this. I need to know. If nothing else, I need to rule you out. I can’t let personal feelings get in the way of this.”
Michael scoffed. “Alright, Alex,” he said, with nothing of the softness in his voice, “A few minutes before three we arrived in Vinkovci, and I went outside. I blew the whistle for the 1-minute sign at 5 past three. At three oh six, the train continued on its way and I went back to my cabin to warm up, since it was freezing outside. I did not emerge until around 4, when Mrs DeLuca rang the bell and asked me to refill her water jug. After that, I was not outside my cabin until Mrs Bracken started screaming. Satisfied?” He jumped to his feet, and Alex rose as well, feeling absolutely miserable.
“Michael, wait.” He grabbed Michael’s arm just as the other man wanted to pace off. “I spent last evening with the DeLuca’s and Dr Kyle, and the way Kyle and Maria interacted…I don’t know. It made me think about who I was, when all this started. Before I went to war.”
Michael pulled his arm from Alex grip and looked at him in near contempt. “Yeah, well, where I stand nothing’s changed.” His voice was like a dagger straight through the heart, but the words also sparked some anger in Alex.
“Yeah. Including the way you look at me.” Michael, who had been poised to retort with something undoubtedly hurtful, shut his mouth with a snap, his eyes widening. “And that’s a problem for me, Guerin.” Alex wasn’t exactly yelling, but his usually quiet voice had gotten a sharp edge to it. All the hurt and confusion he’d been feeling over the past 24 hours was bubbling to the surface and he was unable to hold any of it back. “Because every time you look at me, I’m 17 again. And I forget that the last ten years even happened!” Michael’s entire face was transforming, from decidedly pissed off to something akin to astounded. “And then you look away! And I remember all over again, and it almost kills me! Every time!” Alex was embarrassed to hear his voice break at the end, but the words were out now. Michael was frozen, staring at him with eyes as wide as saucers.
Just as Alex was about to turn around, giving up on him completely, Michael opened his mouth, and Alex was surprised to see a single tear escape from his eye. “I never look away,” Michael said, his voice surprisingly soft. “Not really.”
Alex opened his mouth to reply, although he wasn’t sure what, but then the carriage door slid open and Beth entered with an arm firmly wrapped around Isobel Bracken’s shoulders. “Oh, I’m sorry, did we interrupt something?” Beth said, looking startled as she saw the two men standing not two feet apart, both looking equally devastated.
Alex was the first to snap out of it. “No, of course not. We were just finished.”
Michael threw Alex a hard to read look and then exited the carriage, but not without brushing his hand against Alex’s. The familiar shock of electricity went through him for a second, and then Michael was gone. Before turning to face the two women, he wiped hastily at his eyes.
He had to snap out of it. A murder had been committed on board this train, and whilst the victim was most likely a vicious killer himself, Alex’s sense of justice would not allow him to let this go. He was going to solve this, preferably before they arrived in Paris in two days. In short, he was on a deadline.
“Mrs. Bracken,” he said kindly as he turned around and extended his arm for her to take. She did so, shakily, and allowed him to guide her to his table. “I’m so sorry for you loss, ma’am. I cannot imagine what you are going through.”
“Thank you, detective,” Mrs Bracken said, her voice shaking badly. “I think this qualifies as the worst day of my life, truly.” Every other word, she had to bring her handkerchief to her mouth to stop a sob from escaping. Alex noted that she had been cleaned up and looked quite put together for a woman who had just gone through the worst morning any spouse can go through.
“Miss Otto, would you mind giving us some privacy?” he requested of Beth, who had been hovering over Isobel. She nodded, squeezed Isobel’s shoulder in support and left the carriage.
“Mrs Bracken, I know this is a very trying time, but if we want this murder solved before we arrive in Paris, I need to know everything you can tell me about your husband. Had he any enemies?”
Isobel hiccupped. “I mean, he ran an oil company. He made quite a lot of money. One can’t make money in oil without making some enemies. But there was nothing that pointed to someone threatening him, if that’s what…” She trailed off, her face transforming almost comically to thoughtfulness. Alex cocked an eyebrow in question. “Well, he got some weird letter before we boarded the train. As we were checking out of our hotel, the clerk gave him an envelope. He opened it, read it, and became very upset. He first tore it in half, then stuffed it in his suitcase with a promise to burn it first change he got, which he eventually did in our cabin. When I asked, he wouldn’t tell me what was in it.”
Alex wrote it all down, noting that the burned piece of newspaper could very well have been in this envelope Mr Bracken had received. “How did he appear after that? At dinner, for example?”
“He was very distant, would barely talk to me. He was engrossed in his papers, even though he had promised not to work on our holiday. But it was almost as if he was possessed, he was almost feverish. I offered him some of my sleeping medicine, but he wouldn’t take it and, oh…” Suddenly she teared up again. “Oh god,” she wailed, “the last talk we ever had was an argument. I can’t believe this is happening!”
Alex nodded, allowing her to cry for a minute. He knew from experience grieving widows were especially hard to interrogate. Pushing it would only make them more upset, but he couldn’t be too lax. They usually had some vital piece of information. “Mrs. Bracken, please, just a little while longer. You said sleeping medicine. What kind do you take?”
“Barbital,” Mrs Bracken said, and Alex raised an eyebrow. “It’s not that unusual, Mr Manes. I’ve had night terrors, and they stopped when I started taking barbital.”
“Mrs Bracken,” Alex said, working to keep his voice even. “Your husband’s bedtime tea was laced with barbital. That’s why he never fought back.”
Isobel’s eyes widened, her eyes filling up with fresh tears and she let out a heartbroken wail. “You don’t think I gave him the barbital, do you? I would never drug my husband, Mr Manes!” She sniffed. “I will check if a bottle is missing for you, Mr Manes. Just to give you some peace of mind.”
Alex inclined his head in thanks, wrote down the new information, and continued. “In Istanbul, did you notice anyone following you?” Isobel shook her head. “And finally, did you at any point during the night, open your window?”
She looked at him like he was crazy. “Mr Manes, it is barely 41 degrees outside. Why would I do that?” Then she started sobbing again. “He was so cold…”
Alex wrote it down and closed his notebook. “Thank you, Mrs. Bracken. I will need to talk to you again later, but I will let you process this a bit further first.”
Isobel rose, still sobbing, and left the carriage, leaving Alex behind, lost in thought.
So, the murderer had sent the newspaper clipping to Mr and Mrs Bracken’s hotel. Was it a warning? Or a way to make Noah make a wrong move? Blackmail? Was the barbital from Mrs Bracken’s supply? And how did that window open?
Still so many unanswered questions, and more than a few coincidences Alex couldn’t explain away easily.
The carriage door slid open again and a person far less welcome entered. Compagnie director Jesse Manes crossed to his table in two strides and sat down without being invited. “So, Mrs. Bracken did it, yes?”
Alex frowned. “Excuse me?”
“Oh, come on. The door was locked, the only person who could’ve done it is the person in the room.”
“I’m not at all convinced. There are several things that don’t add up. The open window for one. The irregular stab wounds for another. Plus, why would Isobel Bracken want to take revenge for Rosa Ortecho?”
Jesse Manes scoffed. “Please don’t ask me to explain a woman’s logic. They’re not always the most reasonable of sorts.”
Alex rolled his eyes heavily and leant back. “Charming. A true miracle mom didn’t stick around, she really missed out on a quality husband.”
Jesse Manes gave him a contemptuous look. “Don’t blame me for your mother leaving, boy. She wasn’t right in the head.”
“Well, someone wasn’t, anyway. Pretty sure it wasn’t her, though.” Alex rose before Jesse Manes could do anything more than glower at him. “If you would be so kind as to hand me the keys to the luggage carriage. I want to check it for clues. Perhaps even the murder weapon.”
Scowling, Jesse Manes slammed his master keys on the table and rose. “It’s through the Belgrade carriage. Have fun looking through three cars worth of luggage.”
“Thanks!” Alex said, managing to sound cheerful as he grabbed the keys and left the dining carriage before his father could do anything else. As he walked, he noticed his fingers trembling slightly. He’d developed that unfortunate tell after his discharge. It only happened when his adrenaline levels spiked sufficiently enough to bring up his heartrate and fool his body into thinking he was in danger. Being around Jesse Manes apparently triggered it.
He unlocked and relocked the door between the Paris and Belgrade cars, stepped through, and made his way to the back where the luggage carriage was located.
It was one big mess. Mostly overlarge suitcases and meticulously wrapped parcels occupied the space and it wasn’t very well organized. Just looking at this gave Alex a headache. Pushing through it, he began to wade through the luggage.
About ten minutes in, he froze solid. His hand had landed on a guitar case. Slowly, he pulled it from the mess and held it up, vaguely hearing his miserable attempts at producing sound from Michael’s old guitar drift towards him from the past. He almost opened it to see the guitar and hold one in his hands again, when a voice snapped him out of his memories. “Nostalgia is a fickle mistress, yes?”
Alex almost dropped the guitar. Instead, he put it back down carefully and turned around. Michael was standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame and smirking slightly. Alex took a step towards him. “You know, after I was discharged, I thought for sure I would never see you again.”
Michael pushed off from the doorframe and took a step forward as well, his hands buried in his pockets again, looking at his feet in a very transparent way to hide his nerves. “Is that what you want?” Michael could barely look him in the eye as he stopped to a halt a few feet away.
Alex blinked a few times, trying to find a suitable answer. What did he want? “We’re not kids anymore. What I want doesn’t matter,” he echoed the words his drill sergeant had yelled at him more often than he cared to remember. And yet he had moved closer to Michael. They were now barely a foot apart.
Michael’s eyes snapped up to Alex’s fully now. Something unspoken went between them. Alex’s eyes flicked to Michael’s lips, and then Michael was on him.
Once again, it was like the last ten years hadn’t ever happened. Michael felt so familiar against him, the warmth of his hand in his neck, how his lips moved against his. Alex’s body reacted instinctively. His hands pulled Michael closer to him by his belt, then tried to find somewhere to hold, but he couldn’t decide where he wanted to touch. He wanted to touch everywhere. When he landed on his waist, he wanted to touch his face. When his hand was on Michael’s face, he wanted to run his hands through those curls.
Michael walked him backwards, and Alex’s back hit the wooden wall with a thump. Both moaned softly as Michael pressed himself against Alex as close as possible and Alex could already feel Michael’s arousal against his leg. Michael’s hands were roaming all over his body and in the end landed on Alex’s hips. His fingers dug into his flesh, drawing another gasp from Alex’s lips.
Alex heart felt full to bursting. He hadn’t been kissed like this in a decade. Sure, he’d had some kisses here and there, but where does one find a fellow queer man in America in one of the most conservative times of the country? But Michael was the only one who could make his entire being feel on fire with barely a few touches. Michael broke the kiss after what seemed like an eternity, pressing his forehead against Alex’s. Their breathing was heavy, in complete sync as they held onto each other.
Every point of Alex’s body that touched Michael’s was tingling heavily, and his lips felt swollen from Michael’s enthusiastic kisses. “That was…” Michael said, trying to recover his breath.
“A one-time thing,” Alex forced himself to say. The longer he and Michael weren’t kissing, the more he returned to his senses. Michael was a suspect in a murder investigation, Alex wasn’t supposed to be making out with him.
Michael barely looked concerned. “Mm-mm. That’s what you said after that first time.” His hand slid down Alex’s body, landing on his crotch. Alex inhaled sharply, closing his eyes at the intense sensations. “Mmm. I don’t think he quite agrees with you, Alex.”
“God, Guerin,” Alex growled, his hands grabbing Michael’s face and pulling him close again. The kiss was hotter now, fuelled by lust more than pain. Quick as a cat, he spun Michael around, so his back was to the wall now. Alex grabbed his hands and pinned them above their hands. Michael chuckled breathlessly. Even after all this time, Alex still knew exactly what Michael liked.
Alex rolled his hips against Michael’s and the intense friction made them both groan. “Alex,” Michael growled, sounding absolutely wrecked. Alex had to call upon the very last shred of his willpower to pull away enough to look into Michael’s eyes. “This is a very dumb idea,” Michael continued, even as his lips chased Alex’s.
“It is,” breathed Alex, as he nipped Michael’s lips, “You’re a suspect in a murder that I’m investigating.”
“This could be seen as a conflicting interest.” Michael captured Alex’s lower lip between his teeth and bit down lightly.
“It really could,” Alex agreed in a muffled voice.
Still, it took the two of them another ten minutes to recover enough of their self-control to pull apart. At this point, they were both panting heavily, and Alex was painfully hard. He couldn’t help but notice Michael was in the same predicament. “Let’s pretend this never happened, for now, shall we?” he said between heavy breaths.
Michael nodded, not looking at Alex as he tried to regain his breath. “Yeah. We don’t want your father finding us in a compromising position again, huh.”
“Please, don’t joke about that, Michael,” Alex said in a pained voice.
“Sorry.” For a few minutes they were silent, both trying to recover their strength enough to leave. “Okay, I think I’m good now. See you around, Private.” With an absolutely wicked grin, he tapped his conductor’s hat and left the luggage carriage, leaving Alex behind who was in no way shape or form ‘good’.
He would probably not be able to leave this carriage for a while yet. Sitting himself down on the nearest trunk, Alex began rifling through the other luggage at random, hoping to find any clue.
Focus was hard to find, however, and it took him a full two hours more to search the rest of the carriage. He came away with no new clues.
As he re-entered the Paris carriage, he saw Michael talking to the tall white man he’d overheard someone call ‘Max’. Michael spotted him as well, and over the tall man’s shoulder, he threw Alex an absolutely sinful look. Alex groaned inwardly.
It was going to be a very long day.

Paladins Talk- Atlas Project
The common room was quiet. The only sounds came from the paladins, the occasional sigh and the rhythmic tapping of Tucker’s fingers against the couch cushions.
Alex glanced over towards Tucker, noticing the way the boy was chewing incessantly on his lower lip. Alex reached over, grabbing one of Tucker’s hands in his own. Tucker’s head snapped up, his eyes wide as he stared at Alex in surprise.
“Hey, are you okay?” Alex asked him, a look of concern covering his face. The other paladins glanced towards them. “You’re biting on your lip a lot, and you do that a lot when you’re nervous or upset.” Shae let out a snort. Alex turned to glare at him, sticking his tough out at Shae. “I mean, I noticed you do that a lot,” Alex finished, turning back towards Tucker. Tucker shrugged and let out a sigh, his head ducking back down. Silence fell over the room again.
“I don’t know,” Tucker finally said. “I thought I was fine but then I started thinking about home and now I’m not so sure.”
“What about home?” Avery asked. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“My family mostly. I’m adopted, and even though I’ve been living with my moms and brother for like six years, they’re still worried that I’m just going to disappear and never talk to them again. They’re worried that I hate being a part of their family,” Tucker whispered, tears beginning to gather in the corners of his eyes. “If the Academy told them we just ran away or something, they will be heartbroken.”
Alex pulled Tucker closer to him, wrapping his arms around the teary-eyed boy. Tucker buried his face into Alex’s neck, sniffling as tears dripped onto Alex’s shirt. The others moved closer, leaning closer to the two boys who were still wrapped together.
“You’ll get to see them again, Tucker,” Logan mumbled, reaching a hand up to place it on Tucker’s shoulder. “We’ll all make sure that we all get to see our families again.”
“I’d be perfectly happy if I never had to see mine again,” Shae muttered, the bitterness in his voice startling the other four paladins. They looked at him with concern and he shrugged. “My family sucks, they aren’t the nicest group of people in the world.” Tucker leaned back, wiping his eyes and sending a small smile towards Alex before turning to Shae.
“Did they hurt you?” he asked seriously, narrowing his eyes as Shae flinched slightly. “Shae, what did they do to you?”
“I came out to them when I turned sixteen and I thought they would be okay with it and that we would just move on, but I was so wrong.” Shae paused, taking a shaky breath in. “They beat me so horribly, I couldn’t go to school for three days. After that they still hit me but it was more verbal abuse than anything.
“If I even did a tiny thing wrong, they would scream at me for hours and hit me a few times. They refused to pay for me to go to the Academy so I had to pay for it myself or get in on a scholarship,” Shae continued, looks of ager crossing the other paladins faces as they imagined what the boy had gone through. “I don’t have to be around them anymore thankfully. I just wouldn’t be too sad if I never went home.”
“Can I murder your family? I would gladly do it,” Tucker hissed, a deep scowl present on his face.
“No. No murdering,” Logan said, looking just as angry as Tucker.
“He’s right,” Avery jumped in, “let’s destroy them remotely. Let’s ruin their reputations and show everyone how shitty they are.”
“My family has connections everywhere, we could fuck with their lives a lot,” Alex said, a devious smirk appearing in place of the scowl that had been present on his face.
“You guys don’t have to do anything, I think just going back to rub the fact that I’m a defender of the universe in their faces would be good enough,” Shae laughed, the scowls on the other’s faces disappearing. “Are we just all talking about our families now?”
“Why not? I mean, you, Avery, and Alex may know each other fairly well, but Tucker and I don’t,” Logan said, Alex snorting quietly at his words, earning a confused look from the others.
“Okay, you go then,” Alex said, trying to get the others to stop looking at him weirdly. “What is your family like, Logan?”
“My mom died in a car accident right after I turned eighteen, leaving me to finish my senior year of high school with my dad. He started drinking after she died to forget about the fact that she wasn’t there. He quit drinking right before I graduated my senior year and helped me go to the Academy and pursue my dream of going to space.”
“Do you miss your mom?” Tucker asked, sending a small smile towards Logan.
“Always. She was the one who got me interested in space, but I feel like I’m honoring her memory by being up here,” Logan responded quietly, a smile appearing on his lips. “Avery, your turn.”
“I have a big family, and we’re all super close. I have like, five siblings,” she laughed at the shocked faces of the other paladins, “plus my parents so that in total makes eight of us. I’m one of the middle children, and the only reason I stood out amongst my siblings was that I was super smart. We spent a ton of time out at my grandparents’ ranch, and I got really into in space and the stars while spending time out in the middle of nowhere.”
“Ranch?” Shae asked, his head tilting as he looked at Avery confused.
“My family is from Texas, we have a ranch,” she laughed again. “Alex. You’re up.” Alex sighed, running a hand through his dark hair.
“Avery, Shae, what last name did I give you when we met?” Alex asked the two quietly, gaining more confused looks from the group.
“Are you not Alex Black?” Shae asked him. “Who are you?”
“I am Alex Black-Girardier. Black is only one half of my last name.”
“Girardier? Like-” Logan stopped as Alex cut him off.
“Andrew and Andrea Girardier? Yep. Black is my mother’s original last name and my parents hyphenated instead of choosing between the two, something that has come in handy over the years.
“But yeah, my parents are billionaires, whoop-de-do,” Alex continued monotonously. “It’s not like it makes any difference up here, I can’t spend any of the money I have. I don’t exactly promote that my family is insanely rich because it makes people want to get close to me so they can use me and my connections for their gain. That’s why I tell everyone my last name is Black. My siblings do the same.”
“Thank you for telling us Alex,” Logan said, sending a genuine smile towards the boy.
“You guys aren’t mad?” Alex asked quietly, glancing at the other’s faces quickly.
“Nah, I’m kind of shocked you hid it that well,” Shae laughed, punching Alex’s arm.
“I’m annoyed that I didn't figure it out earlier,” Avery grumbled, the others breaking out into laughter as she pouted.

Jeffrey Epstein's death is a perfect storm for conspiracy theories

Jeffrey Epstein’s Death Is The Perfect Storm for Conspiracy Theories
By Christopher Wilson | Published August 10, 2019 12:30 PM ET | Yahoo News | Posted August 10, 2019 4:34 PM ET |
The death Saturday morning of financier Jeffrey Epstein, an accused sex trafficker with connections to some of the most powerful people in the world, represents a perfect storm in the world of conspiracy theories.
Epstein was found unconscious in his cell in the Metropolitan Correctional Center — the federal jail in downtown Manhattan — and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The MCC is one of the most secure jails in the country, and Epstein, following an earlier suicide attempt, was being held in the Special Housing Unit, where inmates are under heightened protection, although NBC News reported he was not on suicide watch. He had been in the MCC since July 6, after FBI agents arrested him when he returned to the U.S. from France on his private jet.
Epstein’s death immediately set off speculation that he had been killed, or that someone who should have been watching him was looking the other way when it happened. With confirmed ties to political figures up to and including presidents of both parties, European royalty and headline names in business, finance and academia, Epstein was a lightning rod for conspiracy theories even before his death. Women who have accused him of forcing them into having sex when they were underage have also said he pimped them out to some of his powerful friends. His trial, more than a year away, could have proved embarrassing — or worse — to people who were part of his large social circle.
Attorney General William Barr put out a statement saying: “I was appalled to learn that Jeffrey Epstein was found dead early this morning from an apparent suicide while in federal custody. Mr. Epstein’s death raises serious questions that must be answered. In addition to the FBI’s investigation, I have consulted with the Inspector General who is opening an investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Epstein’s death.”
“If we were living in a paranoid fantasy universe, I would be very suspicious about the Epstein suicide, even about whether it was really suicide,” wrote New York Times columnist Paul Krugman. “And you know what? The Epstein case itself shows that we *are* kind of living in a paranoid fantasy universe.”
Joe Scarborough tweeted, “A guy who had information that would have destroyed rich and powerful men’s lives ends up dead in his jail cell. How predictably...Russian.”
On the fringes of the political spectrum, Ann Coulter tweeted, “I knew this would happen! I warned you, [Bureau of Prisons].”
Later she managed to wrap in a whole documentary’s worth of conspiracy theorizing in a single tweet: “This ends the only plausible Epstein theory OTHER THAN a foreign country’s pedophile/blackmail operation. (That he was laundering Robert Maxwell’s hidden loot.)”
Epstein was close friends for years with Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of British publishing magnate Robert Maxwell, who drowned under suspicious circumstances in 1991. At least one of Epstein’s alleged victims has said Ghislaine participated in Epstein’s recruitment of young teenage girls for sex; she has denied any involvement.
Other tweets hinted at a conspiracy by the British royal family, and the hashtag #ClintonBodyCount exploded on social media, the subject of 13,300 tweets within the first hour. Lynne Patton, a Trump appointee in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, wrote on Instagram that Epstein was “Hillary’d.”
Epstein’s waterfront mansion in Palm Beach, Fla., where the alleged sex acts occurred, is less than a mile from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. Records show that Trump flew on Epstein’s private jet on occasion, and they had been photographed together at social events.
“I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy,” said Trump in a 2002 New York magazine profile of Epstein. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”
Former President Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s private plane multiple times and visited his island. Prince Andrew of Britain also has ties to the hedge fund magnate but has denied any involvement in sex trafficking.
Documents implicating other powerful figures began to be released yesterday, starting with sealed records related to a defamation lawsuit that Epstein’s self-described “sex slave” Virginia Roberts Giuffre filed against Ghislaine Maxwell. Giuffre alleges that Epstein told her to have sex with hedge fund billionaire Glenn Dubin, former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and former Democratic Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell.
The men have all denied the allegations.
The New York Times reported last month that Epstein used his ties to Les Wexner, CEO of the L Brands corporation, which owns Victoria’s Secret, for access to both models and money. Wexner accused Epstein this week of misappropriating “vast sums of money.”
Epstein, early in his career, was a protégé of Donald Barr, the father of Attorney General Barr, who hired him to teach at New York’s prestigious Dalton School despite his lack of a college degree.
The amount and source of Epstein’s wealth, apart from his association with Wexner, has been a mystery. His Manhattan mansion has been described as having a “creepy décor,” while his private island has a gold-domed temple-like structure. When Epstein’s home was raided, investigators found a cache of videos in a safe that were described as potentially containing compromising images of third parties. The New York Times reported last month that Epstein had plans to “seed human race with his DNA” at his New Mexico ranch.
The latest round of charges were not the first faced by Epstein. He was charged by federal prosecutors in Florida in 2007 for, as the Miami Herald put it in its award-winning reporting on the case, “assembling a large, cult-like network of underage girls — with the help of young female recruiters — to coerce into having sex acts behind the walls of his opulent waterfront mansion as often as three times a day.” Epstein received what observers consider unusually lenient treatment by the U.S. attorney in Miami at the time, Alex Acosta. Acosta served as Trump’s secretary of labor but stepped down amid a slew of calls for his resignation after Epstein’s arrest earlier this summer. In that case, Epstein was defended by Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz and former special counsel Ken Starr.
Epstein’s trial was not set to begin until June 2020 at the earliest. He had been denied bail due to his access to private jets, private islands and multiple passports. Civil cases against Epstein’s estate will continue despite his death.
According to Courthouse News reporter Adam Klasfeld, a former prosecutor said that after Epstein’s death “no one else will have standing to challenge the search warrant on his house. Everything will be admissible against any other defendant without possibility of a motion to suppress.”
In the wake of Epstein’s death, many were quick to point out that hundreds of people kill themselves in jail every year and experts say most deaths are preventable with proper mental health care and monitoring.
However, the fact that he was able to hang himself less than a month after a previous suicide attempt — particularly one in which a former cop charged with four murders being jailed near Epstein was questioned over his potential involvement — raised questions from those far from the conspiratorial fringes of the internet.
“I am not into conspiracy theories,” said Brooklyn-based public defender Scott Hechinger. “But Epstein had destructive information on an extraordinary number of extraordinarily powerful people. It is not easy to commit suicide in prison. Especially after being placed on suicide watch. Especially after already allegedly trying.”
“The Bureau of Prisons is part of DOJ,” said Michael Bromwich, who previously served as the Justice Department’s inspector general. “This should prompt an immediate and comprehensive DOJ Inspector General investigation to determine who is responsible.”
“We need answers,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., linking to a story about Epstein’s death. “Lots of them.”
Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Fla., has already called on the House Oversight Committee to investigate Epstein’s death, saying in a statement that it “does not end the need for justice for his victims or the right of the public to know why a prolific child molester got a slap on the wrist instead of a long prison sentence.”

-AU where Clementine and her group arrive in Savannah to find her parents still alive and never bitten, as badass survivors.
-AU where Clementine and her group arrive in Savannah... but Crawford still runs the city. The group is in great danger, both from the dead and the elitists of Crawford.
-AU where Clementine is taken by Vernon and the Cancer survivors - she lives out her life in the sewers and then eventually on a boat. It’s... not exactly a nice life, but Vernon genuinely tries his best to be there for her. Unfortunately, as in canon, in 400 Days, they eventually all die. Clementine, though, lives on, frightened and alone.
-AU where Clementine leaves Savannah with Molly and never sees Omid and Christa again. Molly teaches her about parkour and survival techniques, as well as how to defend herself and use the cityscape to her advantage.
-AU where Clem plays some part in 400 Days - she could be meeting up with Bonnie, Shel, Vince, Russell or Wyatt.
-AU where the original concepts that were planned for Season Two and Season Three: A New Frontier happen to Clementine... and make her a much darker character. However, I must warn you that this AU would not be for the faint of heart and contains heavy, mature themes. It is arguably a lot worse than what she endures in canon, and that’s saying a lot. Clementine’s mind slowly becomes darker and demented the more she ages, she begins to look at the world in a nepotistic way, and she will do whatever it takes to survive, and she will brutally murder whoever stands in her way. Basically, this is a much darker version of Clementine and a lot of things in her canon change, i.e AJ is dead, Kenny is more or less Clementine’s enemy, etc.. This verse begins in Season Two and will continue onward from there. Here is the link. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
-AU where Clementine is taken in and trained as a soldier of the Delta against her own will.
-Modern AU scenarios!! Youtube Channels, vines, memes, shenanigans!!
-ROADTRIP AU!! BASED OFF OF THIS POST!!
-Interactions between Clementine, AJ, CJ and Clem’s pet tigress, Rani, based off of THIS POST.
-Clem interacting with characters from the comics or the show. I may not be up to date with either of them, but I am very willing to learn! -Clem becoming a Whisperer, perhaps with James and Charlie? -Clem joining settlements from the comics (i.e Hilltop, Alexandria, the Commonwealth, etc.)
-Post-Apocalyptic AU where the walkers have all gone extinct for some unknown reason and civilization is rebuilding itself.
CROSSOVERS.
-Buffy The Vampire Slayer AU!! -Harry Potter AU!! -Naruto AU!! -The Hunger Games AU!! -A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones AU!! -Deity AU!! -Vampire AU!! -Werewolf AU!! -Red Dead Redemption AU!!

United States War Crimes During the Vietnam War
from the article War Crimes: Agent Orange, Monsanto, Dow Chemical and Other Ugly Legacies of the Vietnam War by Dr. Gary G. Kohls
“Fifty years ago this next month (December 1965), with the urging of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the rubber stamp approval of President Lyndon Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, the United States Air Force started secretly spraying the forests of Laos with a deadly herbicide that was known as Agent Orange.
Operation Ranch Hand, whose motto was “Only We Can Prevent Forests” (a shameful takeoff of Smokey the Bear’s admonition), was a desperate, costly and ultimately futile effort to make it a little harder for the National Liberation Front soldiers from North Vietnam to join and supply their comrades-in-arms in the south. Both the guerilla fighters in the south and the NLF army had been fighting to liberate Vietnam from the exploitive colonial domination from foreign nations such as imperial France (that began colonizing Vietnam in 1874), then Japan (during WWII), then the United States (since France’s expulsion after their huge military defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954) and then against its own nation’s US-backed fascist/military regime in South Vietnam that was headed by the brutal and corrupt President Diem.
(Incidentally, the nepotism in the US-backed, Roman Catholic Diem’s iron-fisted rule was almost laughable, with one brother being the Catholic Archbishop of Vietnam, a second brother being in charge of the Hue district, and a third brother being the co-founder of the only legal political party in South Vietnam [as well as Diem’s principal adviser]. It needs to be pointed out that true democracies do not criminalize political parties.)
The aim of the National Liberation Front was to unite the north and the south portions of the country and free it from the influence and occupation of foreign invaders. The leader of the liberation movement since its beginning was Ho Chi Minh, who had made sincere appeals to both President Woodrow Wilson (after WWI had weakened France’s colonial system) and President Harry Truman (after the Japanese had taken over Vietnam during WWII and then surrendered to the US in 1945).
Each appeal asked for America’s help to liberate Vietnam from their French colonial oppressors, and each one fell on deaf ears, even though Ho Chi Minh had frequently incorporated the wording and spirit of America’s Declaration of Independence in his continuous efforts to achieve justice for his suffering people.
Agent Orange’s Ecological Devastation of Southeast Asia
Operation Ranch Hand had actually been in operation since 1961, mainly spraying its poisons on Vietnam’s forests and crop land. The purpose of the operation was to defoliate trees and shrubs and kill food crops that were providing cover and food for the “enemy”.
Operation Ranch Hand consisted of spraying a variety of highly toxic polychlorinated herbicide solutions that contained a variety of chemicals that are known to be (in addition to killing plant life) human and animal mitochondrial toxins, immunotoxins, hormone disrupters, genotoxins, mutagens, teratogens, diabetogens and carcinogens that were manufactured by such amoral multinational corporate chemical giants like Monsanto, Dow Chemical, DuPont and Diamond Shamrock (now Valero Energy). All were eager war profiteers whose CEOs and share-holders somehow have always benefitted financially from America’s wars.
Such non-human entities as Monsanto and the weapons manufacturers don’t care if the wars that they can profit from are illegal or not, war crimes or not; if they can make money they will be there at the trough.
They are however, expert at duping the Pentagon into paying exorbitantly high prices for inferior, unnecessary or dangerous war materiels. One only needs to recall Vice President Dick Cheney’s Halliburton Corporation and that company’s no-bid multibillion dollar contracts that underserved our soldiers during the past three wars, but enriched any number of One Percenters.
Agent Orange was the most commonly used of a handful of color-coded herbicidal poisons that the USAF sprayed (and frequently re-sprayed) over rural Vietnam (and ultimately – and secretly – Laos and Cambodia). It was also used heavily over the perimeters of many of its military bases, the toxic carcinogenic and disease-inducing chemicals often splashing directly upon American soldiers. (But “stuff happens” as Donald Rumsfeld would say).
The soil in and around some of the US and ARVN (Army of the Republic of Viet Nam) military bases continue to have extremely high levels of dioxin. The US military bases where the barrels of Agent Orange were off-loaded, stored and then pumped into the spray planes or “brown water” swift boats are especially contaminated, as were those guinea pig “atomic soldiers” who handled the chemicals. The Da Nang airbase today has dioxin contamination levels over 300 times higher than that which international agencies would recommend remediation. (Guess which guilty nation is doing nothing about Agent Orange contamination of the sovereign nation of Vietnam?)
It is fair to speculate that any American G-I that spent any time at bases such as Da Nang, Phu Cat and Bien Hoa in the 1960s and 1970s may have been exposed. US Navy swift boat crews that sprayed Agent Orange on the shores of the bushy rivers that they patrolled were often soaked by the oily chemicals that were sprayed from the hoses. Secretary of State Kerry, are you listening?
The poisonous spraying continued for a decade until it was stopped in 1971. The South Vietnamese air force, that had started spraying Agent Orange before the US did, continued the program beyond 1971.
Agent Orange – the Chemical That Never Stops Giving/Poisoning
Agent Orange was a 50/50 mixture of two herbicides: 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) and 2,4,5-T (2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid). Other herbicide agents were mixtures of other equally toxic polychlorinated compounds, but every barrel was contaminated by substantial amounts of dioxin, one of the most toxic industry-made chemicals known to man.
The toxicity of the herbicidal chemicals known as “dioxins” or “dioxin-like compounds” is due to the chlorine atoms and the benzene molecules (or phenyl groups) in the compound to which they are attached. Dioxins have very long half-lives and are thus very poisonous to the liver’s detoxifying enzymes that humans and animals rely on to degrade synthetic chemicals that get into the blood stream. The fatty tissues of exposed Vietnam vets, even decades after exposure, continue to have measureable levels of dioxins.
[...]  Should it be a War Crime to Use Disease-inducing Herbicides as an Instrument of War?
According to Wikipedia,
“War crimes have been broadly defined by the Nuremberg Principles as “violations of the laws or customs of war”, which includes massacres, bombings of civilian targets, terrorism, mutilation, torture and the murder of detainees and prisoners of war [realities that abounded at places like My Lai and other massacre sites]. Additional common crimes include theft, arson, and the destruction of property not warranted by military necessity.”
According to that definition, anybody with a smidgen of awareness of what really happens in any combat zone would have to conclude that every war that the US military has ordered its young soldiers to go off and fight and kill in, especially the many corporate-endorsed, Wall Street wars, was laden with war crimes.
Four million innocent Vietnamese civilians were exposed to Agent Orange, and as many as 3 million have suffered diagnosable illnesses because of it, including the progeny of people who were exposedto it, approximating the number of innocent Vietnamese civilians that were killed in the war. The Red Cross of Vietnam says that up to 1 million people are disabled with Agent Orange-induced illnesses. There has been an epidemic of birth defects, chronic illnesses, fetal anomalies and neurological and mental illnesses since the “American War”.
Most thinking humans would agree that destroying the health and livelihoods of innocent farmers, women, children, babies and old people (who had no interest in the war) by poisoning their forests, farms, food and water supplies qualifies as a war crime.
Disrespecting Sickened Veterans Again and Again
According to Wikipedia, the chemical companies involved in an Agent Orange Vietnam veterans’ class action lawsuit in 1984 (against seven chemical companies that got Agent Orange contracts from the Pentagon) denied that there was a link between their poisons and the veterans’ health problems. On May 7, 1984, as is usual for Big Corporations that know when they are losing, the seven chemical companies settled out of court for $180 million just hours before jury selection was to begin. The companies agreed to pay the $180 million as compensation if the veterans dropped all claims against them.
45% of the sum was ordered to be paid by Monsanto. Many veterans were outraged, feeling that they had been betrayed by the lawyers. Fairness Hearings were held in five major American cities, where veterans and their families discussed their reactions to the settlement, and condemned the actions of the lawyers and courts, demanding the case be heard before a jury of their peers. The federal judge refused the appeals, claiming the settlement was “fair and just”. By 1989, the veterans’ fears were confirmed when it was decided how the money from the settlement would be paid out. A totally disabled Vietnam veteran would receive a corporate-friendly maximum of $12,000 spread out over the course of 10 years. By accepting the settlement payments, disabled veterans would become ineligible for many state benefits such as food stamps, public assistance, and government pensions. A widow of a veteran who died because of Agent Orange would only receive $3,700.
According to Wikipedia, “In 2004, Monsanto spokesman Jill Montgomery said Monsanto should not be liable at all for injuries or deaths caused by Agent Orange, saying: ‘We are sympathetic with people who believe they have been injured and understand their concern to find the cause, but reliable scientific evidence indicates that Agent Orange is not the cause of serious long-term health effects.’”
[...] Such shabby treatment of returning veterans has been the norm after every war, including the reality of the “bonus army” revolt of the 1930s when thousands of poor, disabled and/or unemployed World War I vets marched on Washington, DC, demanding the bonus that had been promised them in the 1920s. Rather than receiving justice, Generals Douglas MacArthur and Dwight Eisenhower dishonorably ordered their troops to burn the bonus army’s temporary villages and disperse the vets empty-handed.
[...] US Veterans’ Diseases Caused by Agent Orange
I conclude this essay by listing the currently-accepted list of diseases that the VA acknowledges can be caused by exposure to Agent Orange. This applies to American veterans, but one can be certain that the consequences are a hundred times worse for the Vietnamese people who were sprayed and who are still being exposed to it in the soil for the last 50 years.
The VA says that certain cancers and other health problems can be caused by exposure to Agent Orange and the other herbicides during their military service. Veterans and their survivors may be eligible for benefits if they have one of these diagnoses.
Amyloidosis, Chronic B-cell Leukemias, Chloracne, Type II Diabetes Mellitus, Hodgkins Disease, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Ischemic Heart Disease, Multiple Myeloma, Parkinson’s Disease, Peripheral Neuropathy, Porphyria Cutanea Tarda, Prostate Cancer, Respiratory Cancers (including lung cancer), Hairy Cell Leukemia, Soft Tissue Sarcomas and spina bifida in infants of Agent Orange exposed Vietnam veterans.”

Wright Hook (Duke) Questionnaire
does your character have siblings or family members in their age group? which one are they closest with?      Wright has no siblings or family! He grew up in foster care.
what is/was your character’s relationship with their mother like?      He never knew her. He is not sure if he ever wants to.
what is/was your character’s relationship with their father like?      He never knew him. He is not sure if he ever wants to.
has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? if so, does anyone else know?      Upon entering the Nonary Games, he witnessed several things that made him change. The people he was with knows. Smack Jackson apologizing for accusing him of murder helped soften him up to everyone else a bit.
on an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?      Bandages, his keys, his wallet, and some dog food
does your character have recurring themes in their dreams?      He has recurring nightmares of being bullied. He also has one in particular where he beats his primary bully to a pulp until he dies. And that one he wakes up screaming to.
does your character have recurring themes in their nightmares?      See above.
has your character ever fired a gun? if so, what was their first target?      No. He doesn’t really ever want to use any weapons against anybody, including his fists.
is your character’s current socioeconomic status different than it was when they were growing up?      Not really. He grew up in poor areas and households but profited off of his ability to fight. Now he lives in a secluded apartment and has a solitary ranch nobody knows about.
does your character feel more comfortable with more clothing, or with less clothing?      It doesn’t really matter to him when he’s home. When he’s out and about, he prefers to wear more clothing. He doesn’t like catching people’s attention.
in what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been?      Probably the Nonary Games and being accused of murder. He wasn’t close to anybody and everybody ganged up on him, just like the children in foster care.
in what situation was your character the most calm they’ve ever been?      When he first found Rocky and took him to his ranch. And they just layed in the grass with the sun shining.
is your character bothered by the sight of blood? if so, in what way?      It doesn’t bother him anymore since he’s so used to seeing it.
does your character remember names or faces easier?      He remembers faces easier than names. He can forget those often.
is your character preoccupied with money or material possession? why or why not?      Duke is not. Although he likes money for keeping him alive and stable, he knows he could do without. He likes hoarding animals but that’s as far as his occupation with “material possessions”.
which does your character idealize most: happiness or success?      Happiness. He doesn’t care much about his success. As long as he is left alone and happy.
what was your character’s favorite toy as a child?      The foster care he was in gave him a stuffed dog plush that he took everywhere with him, until the kids ripped it apart and threw it away. It was a stuffed Dalmatian and he named it Pongo.
is your character more likely to admire wisdom, or ambition in others?      Ambition. If somebody is smart, that’s great. But he loves to see the drive in other people.
what is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?      Wright has major trust issues. He has paranoia and is afraid people are out to get him even if they seem to have good intentions. He doesn’t really try to have relationships, he just keeps to himself.
in what ways does your character compare themselves to others? do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?      He’s hard on himself for every punch he throws. Wright is aware of his ability and tries to use it to the best of his ability but doesn’t necessarily like it. He’s also hard on himself for being weak when he was younger and not being able to open up to people as easily.
if something tragic or negative happens to your character, do they believe they may have caused or deserved it, or are they quick to blame others?      Oh, it is almost always him blaming himself for it. Being abandoned at a young age and being abused really makes him blame himself for a lot of things.
what does your character like in other people?      He likes compassion and kindness towards animals. If they are kind and caring, he’ll open up only a tad bit easier than usual.
what does your character dislike in other people?      Violence, ignorance, and apathy.
how quick is your character to trust someone else?      Oh boy. Wright doesn’t really trust anybody. He trusts himself, animals, and veterinarians but that’s about it. He puts a lot of walls and defenses up.
how quick is your character to suspect someone else? does this change if they are close with that person?      He is very quick to suspect. However, he isn’t quick to take action until he’s sure or mostly sure of his suspicions. If they are close, he’s torn and would most likely snoop due to his trust issues.
how does your character behave around children?      He doesn’t like them and tries to stay away from them. However, in situations where he must be around them, he’s kind of like a Zuko. He can come off as annoyed but he treats them kindly and will play with them.
how does your character normally deal with confrontation?      He doesn’t. If he must, he will come right up to the person and threaten them or demand answers.
how quick or slow is your character to resort to physical violence in a confrontation?      Very slow. He uses his strength to break things when he must. He doesn’t like using his Ultimate Boxing ability unless he has to.
what did your character dream of being or doing as a child? did that dream come true?      He wanted to be a veterinarian but plans changed when he became the Ultimate Boxer. It didn’t come true but he did take in a lot of stray animals and that alone has helped.
what does your character find repulsive or disgusting?      Bullies.
describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable.      The rays of the sun beat down on his face as his bull terrier sniffs his right ear. “Rocky, what are you doing?” he says between giggles.       Rocky responds by promptly licking the redhead’s cheek and sprinting off, his tail wagging. Wright sits up and brushes the grass off his backside. “Oh, that’s it, huh? You wanna play, then?”      He takes off in a run towards the dog, almost matching him in speed. Rocky halts still, and Wright follows suit. The terrier sort of boofs ever so softly and shakes his head. Wright flashes a smile and suddenly darts towards Rocky      However, the dog knew this was coming and full on heads towards Wright, jumping up into his arms. Being taken by surprise, Wright falls back on the grass and holds tightly onto his best friend. Rocky pants heavily and nuzzes his head into Wright’s chest.       A small smile finds its way onto Wright’s face as he lies there, happy and comfortable. But not alone.
describe a scenario in which your character feels most uncomfortable.      With groceries in one hand, and his keys in another, he struggles to open his apartment door. He sighs and sets the groceries down.     “Ohmigod, you’re Wright Hook aren’t you?” a shrill voice pipes up from behind him.      Startled, he drops his keys. He turns around quickly and is face to face with a blonde girl and what appears to be her stocky boyfriend.      “Oh uh, I think you must have me confused with-” he rushes out but it’s too late.      “Oh my god selfie!” she promptly snaps a picture and drapes herself over Wright. “Oh my god you’re even stronger in person!” she gushes.      “Listen, please leave me alone. Please don’t tell anybody where I live, please-”      “What? You just tell my girl to leave you alone? Think you’re so big and famous, you can tell us what to do?” the bigger man spits. His brow is furrowed and a grimace creeps over his face.      Wright gulps. “Please. That’s not what I meant. Uh, please just go?”      The boyfriend steps up and takes a swing at Wright. Having calculated his opponent’s movements and size, Wright predicted this would happen and broke left. In one swift movement, he sent a jab to the man’s face and knocked the man out.      “Ah, oh dear. Look at what you’ve done now. I need you two to leave. Now,” Wright says, angry and uncomfortable. There is no mercy in his voice anymore.      The girl looks horrified as he rushes to open his apartment door and heads in. He watches through the peephole as the boyfriend wakes up and leaves off in a huff.      Rocky senses his discomfort and comes to his feet, cocking his head and wagging his tail. Wright looks down at him, and gives a sad smile. “God, I hate people sometimes. We might have to leave here, Rocky. But I’m glad I have you.”
in the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve?      With criticism, he gets defensive but also self depricating.
is your character more likely to keep trying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, or immediately move on to a different solution/method?      He actually does both depending on what it is. He gets frustrated easily so if it doesn’t work he tries to move on to another solution.
how does your character behave around people they like?      He’s nervous and kind of a goof but still awkward. He’ll try and make them smile and laugh.
how does your character behave around people they dislike?      Oh, they will know. He won’t talk to them or look at him, and depending on the situation, he’ll threaten them.
is your character more concerned with defending their honor, or protecting their status?      Defending his honor if he had to pick from the two, but he’s not very concerned about either of those things.
is your character more likely to remove a problem/threat, or remove themselves from a problem/threat?      He’s more likely to remove the threat. He knows that if it’s a threat to multiple people, he will take them out himself.
has your character ever been bitten by an animal? how were they affected (or unaffected)?      Wright has been bitten quitea few times by strays, and he’s okay with it. He expects it but endures it to get them to trust him so he can take care of them.
how does your character treat people in service jobs?      He treats them very well. He knows that they have to endure every day and leaves amazing tips.
does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first?      I feels he must earn it. With some things though, he does feel as if he deserves it since his life has been kind shitty up to this point.
has your character ever had a parental figure who was not related to them?      Not really.
has your character ever had a dependent figure who was not related to them?      There was this kid in the foster care named Sam who he looked after for a while.
how easy or difficult is it for your character to say “i love you?” can they say it without meaning it?      Oh my god is it so hard for him. He’s like one of those people that’s like “I....lo....l...lov...LIKE dogs.............” and just can’t do it
what does your character believe will happen to them after they die? does this belief scare them?      He would like to believe in an afterlife so that way he can still be around those he loves.

American Clarity Spring 2017: The Rising
As the green of Spring comes at the end of a brutal winter, there is more Clarity than ever!
“God who gave us life gave us Liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.” –Thomas Jefferson (1774)

It is here, the Clarity which has been brought to bear this time. It is a Rising of the division that separates us. In the Civil War it was slavery, today it is the differences in which direction this nation shall go! In the midst of the spring, a cry sounds forth, the battle wages on, and yet as it does; we find our God is still on the throne. In these moments we find just whom we serve, God or mammon; the USA or Jesus Christ! ..The Watchman Dana G Smith

  American Clarity Spring 2017: Trump
In our neck of the woods when March arrives, we are in spring. While the actual day of spring is not until March 20th, we start the first of this month.  The 12th of this month [this Sunday] is the time we ‘spring forward’ all clocks. So everything here is looking like another change of the season.
While nature, the earth, and the season take their course there is another continuation, that of the resistance of the Obama operatives and Soros minions.  These people still cannot wrap their heads or their hearts around a Trump Presidency. With their hate at an all-time high,  I believe Obama basks in the rebellion.  They have vowed, swore, cursed, used witches curses, and will never accept Trump nor this election. That is what they say. As Obama and his administration is lawless, so too; this rebellion is of evil heart and lawlessness is at the core of it.
On the opposite side to Obama and Hillary, we find Donald Trump and his supporters.  In the midst of attacks and protests by the liberals Trump and his supporters decided to have ‘Make America Great Again’ rallies which were to occur in 60 cities throughout the USA.  The last Make America Great again rally was a short time ago in Florida. The rallies celebrating new hope for America and Trumps victory, was the beginning of a new change to truly “Make America great again.”  Now whether it actually succeeds or not, Trump wants to give it his all and his supporters back him. The opposition wants him to fail, but today in America Trump has given Hope to millions who supported him.   It is about basic American values, business climate, and opposition to the socialist and globalist policies of Obama.
So as the grass and the trees all begin their yearly migration into full bloom, there are those who plan on making America a truly chaotic time.  However, there are those full of hope and want to see this country move from its lawlessness, chaos, and social globalist policies back to where it once was.  We find lawlessness on one side and Hope on the other. Which side are you going to be on?
Thousands of people across the country took to the streets Saturday in a show of support for President Trump, participating in rallies and proudly carrying American flags and signs that read messages such as “Deplorables for Trump” and “Make America Great Again.” ABC News
American Clarity Spring 2017: The Rising
However, in spite of the Hope by many who support Trump; we find the the competition and hate mongers are not finished and they recently had a spokeswoman who urged the troops to rally in opposition to Donald Trump.
In a video release, Loretta Lynch; Obama’s former Attorney General and one who should care about the law and being lawful has declared it was a “time of concern for people who see our rights being assailed”. Translation, “I’m mad as hell, like you are that Trump won and is the process of dismantling Obama’s policies”!  Loretta Lynch may have been an attorney General, but she was bias and followed the script of Obama. So in her continuation of following Obama she released this video. She speaks of “our Founding Fathers” like she cared [or Obama cared] for them.
“I know it’s a time of concern for people, who see our rights being assailed, being trampled on and even being rolled back. I know that this is difficult, but I remind you that this has never been easy. We have always had to work to move this country forward to achieve the great ideals of our Founding Fathers.” ..Loretta Lynch
In fact, Obama clearly pushed “spread the wealth” and a socialist ideal. He clearly also saw the US constitution not as a blessing from God but one that was “fundamentally flawed”.  So it is without any hesitation that Lynch also is anti-constitutionalist and anti-Forefathers. It is clear by their socialist agenda and the push they have worked on for eight years to undermine basic fundamental rights. Lynch then goes on to push out a message that would motivate opponents of Trump to do something. The Key words in her address were “banded together”, “ordinary people”, “marched”, “bled”, “died”, and “this is hard”!  Her point is for every ordinary American who opposes Trumps agenda are to band together and march, in that process Lynch wants to be sure that these whom she is addressing will make their opposition heard. How do they do that? Through disobedience, violence, and some of this would mean that there will be blood in these marches and some may even die!  In short, again “blood in the streets”, bring change no matter what!
American Clarity Spring 2017: Lawlessness
Loretta Lynch’s own words follow:
“It has been people, individuals who have banded together, ordinary people who simply saw what needed to be done and came together and supported those ideals who have made the difference. They’ve marched, they’ve bled and yes, some of them died. This is hard. Every good thing is. We have done this before. We can do this again.” Loretta Lynch
It is to be sure her message will find its target. The Obama administration knows full well the power of the internet, especially the push on video to thousands of gullible young Obama and Soros supporters who are willing to destroy their own neighborhoods, cities, and even America itself if it won’t listen to them. The results and the election be damned, full steam ahead with a spring focused on chaos and destruction.
  So Lynches words are clearly, “anti-law, anti-constitution, anti-Trump, anti-liberty”!
The Washington Standard’s editor, Tim Brown says of the urging by Loretta Lynch to be stirred up:
Understand that this is a woman who is stirring up people with no legitimate reason to do so.  She can’t even tell anyone what rights are being violated.
However, let’s consider the rights of the people that her boss violated.  How about his constant attacks on the rights protected under the Second Amendment?  What about the goons that imposed “Free Speech Zones” at Bundy Ranch under Obama?  How about Homeland Security under Obama that claimed anywhere 100 miles inside the border and coastline are “Constitution Free Zones” so they can seize and search your stuff, and a federal judge upheld it as constitutional when it clearly is not?  What of Obama’s silencing of the press during his Vice President’s speech?  What of the orchestration of the White House when it came to the Oregon State Police and FBI in the murder of LaVoy Finicum?.. Tim Brown, Editor, Washington standard
American Clarity Spring 2017: Thomas Jefferson
Now that’s freedom for you. I am sure Thomas Jefferson would just allow these knuckleheads to go ahead and destroy all that he and the other signers of declaration of Independence worked hard on. But the real truth is he would oppose the agenda of Barack Hussein Obama given the fact that Obama looked with distain on the document, only using it to forward his own purposes to change America and its system.
However, Thomas Jefferson warned “not to make it a blank paper by construction”. If we allow people to push their own interests and despotic ways on us, then that written constitution becomes a blank piece of paper in regard to the true freedoms that were meant for this nation. Jefferson said pointedly to “bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution”.
“Our peculiar security is in possession of a written Constitution. Let us not make it a blank paper by construction. … If it is, then we have no Constitution. … [T]o consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions … would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. … In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” Thomas Jefferson
Plain and simple words, the Judicial judges:  local, state and federal are not to legislate change, nor be the one constructing the rights of the constitution. Judges today are oligarchs, depots who are politically appointed, who rule politically and in favor of their own ideas. They are not based on the constitution and certainly are not held accountable by anyone for their devious decisions.
Judges today are not held accountable nor bound to the truth of the US Constitution, they are certainly not chained to it, this is obvious by their decisions.
American Clarity Spring 2017: Evil or Righteousness
As we therefore enter into the spring of 2017, we can see signs of growth and hope. In my neck of the woods I shall embrace green grass, growth, gardens of plenty, and activities of family and friends. While there are enemies in America, this will not be the first time. I will apply to the Lord God, through his word; so that which is provided for me and my family through faith will arrive according to the abundance of his grace, mercy, and love towards me. But it is also towards all those who love him, embrace him, and walk in his ways.
Let the evil do their evil, but let the righteous and the holy; be just that. In the end, should America fail or fall; at least we have had one last chance to “Make America Great again” and for me personally that means that the One True God and our Father and his only begotten Son Jesus Christ are again in the folds of the Constitution and in the fabric of US society.
But if America truly is not where it should be, and Evil rules the day and nation, let us be Righteous…Holy… according to Gods word! For our Hope is in the final analysis in our God and Father through Jesus Christ our Lord.  For us, here Habakkuk’s last words have a permanent place and root in these days we live in.
Hab 3:17-19
(17)  Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
(18)  Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
(19)  The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
If chaos comes by the evil hands of those in America, then I shall not be found in chaos; but peace. I shall walk in faith and not fear, for great is the Lord who has redeemed me and kept me. While chaos reigns, his peace shall rule my soul and his words shall light my path.  For the LORD God is my strength and my Hope through Jesus Christ. If God be for us, who can be against us?
The Watchman Dana G Smith
The Judgment
The avenue of Evil or Righteousness is judged by the Word of the Lord, the commandments written in the scriptures, and by those who have received Jesus Christ as their Lord. John 1, John 3
The righteousness of men is not judged in the flesh, by being Democrat or Republican; a follower of Obama or Soros or of Donald Trump.
The Judgment of God will be upon all nations and men and that judge will be Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha Massiach; Lord of Lords and King of Kings. For he alone is Alpha and Omega and everything in between. He is the Almighty!
Rev 22:7-13
(7)  Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
(8)  And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
(9)  Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
(10)  And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
(11)  He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
(12)  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
(13)  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely (A Curse So Dark and Lonely #1) by Brigid Kemmerer
Fall in love, break the curse.
It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.
Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.
Break the curse, save the kingdom.
A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.

Beautiful Mistake by Vi Keeland
The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend–smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he’d done. Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant. Only it turned out, the man I’d just told off wasn’t the right guy. Oops. My mistake. Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology. I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right? That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning. Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant. I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking. Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West. This was going to be interesting…
Reckless by Lex Martin
Reckless features Tori and Ethan and is a standalone companion to the USA Today bestseller Shameless.
Tori… For the record, I’m not going to hook up with my boss.
I’m a lot of things—a screwup, a basket case, a flunky. But when I take a nanny job to be near my pregnant sister, I swear to myself I’ll walk the straight and narrow, which means I cannot fall for my insanely hot boss.
I don’t want to be tempted by that rugged rancher. By his chiseled muscles or southern charm or the way he snuggles his kids at bedtime. Ethan Carter won’t get the key to my heart, no matter how much I want him.
Ethan… Between us, she’s the last thing I need as I finalize my hellish divorce.
What sane man trying to rebuild his life wants a hot nanny with long, sexy hair, curves for miles, and a smart mouth? A perfectly kissable, pouty mouth that I shouldn’t notice.
My focus is on my kids and my ranch, not the insufferable siren who sleeps in the room next to mine. It doesn’t matter that she wins over my kids in a heartbeat or runs my life better than I do. Tori Duran is the one woman I can’t have and shouldn’t want, no matter how much I crave her.

A Study in Charlotte (Charlotte Holmes #1) by Brittany Cavallaro
The last thing Jamie Watson wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s great-great-great-granddaughter, who has inherited not only Sherlock’s genius but also his volatile temperament. From everything Jamie has heard about Charlotte, it seems safer to admire her from afar.
From the moment they meet, there’s a tense energy between them, and they seem more destined to be rivals than anything else. But when a Sherringford student dies under suspicious circumstances, ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Jamie can no longer afford to keep his distance. Jamie and Charlotte are being framed for murder, and only Charlotte can clear their names. But danger is mounting and nowhere is safe—and the only people they can trust are each other.

How Former Mexican President Vicente Fox Went From Drug Tsar To Legalization Trailblazer
Stephen Woodman of Herb Reports:
During his six years in office, Vicente Fox oversaw aggressive efforts to destroy marijuana crops in the Mexican countryside. Now, he’s become one of the most important voices for legalization in North America.
The tiny Mexican village of San Cristóbal is not somewhere you would immediately associate with North America’s cannabis revolution. Smoking weed is still illegal there and there are no headshops in town, just a sleepy plaza ringed by narrow, cobblestone streets.
But the most recognizable of the town’s 3,000 residents—Vicente Fox, the former president of Mexico—has recently become one of the continent’s highest-profile cannabis legalization advocates.
Last month, Fox hosted the CannaMexico World Summit at his family’s San Cristóbal ranch, a two-day conference designed to promote legalization and fuel the growth of a Mexican marijuana industry. Fox also uses the complex to meet with journalists, arguing that Mexico’s spiraling violence warrants a new strategy that takes cannabis out of the hands of criminals. He believes that continental cannabis legalization could create a dynamic new industry, delivering jobs and profits on both sides of the border.
“It’s absolutely contradictory that the United States legalizes and Mexico still has prohibition,” Fox told Herb at a recent visit to his ranch. “We have to join in with new trends in the world. Mexico has to be on the vanguard.”
A former Coca-Cola boss, Fox is best known for ending 71 years of one-party rule with his election in 2000. Nevertheless, as president, he failed to deliver on his ambitious economic promises.
Freed from the constraints of elected office, Fox now provokes change from outside the corridors of power. Even his clothing reflects this: the trademark navy suit is gone, replaced today with a bright yellow button-up, blue chinos and running shoes.
Yet despite this more relaxed role, Fox is clearly keen to retain influence. In 2007, the year after he left office, he opened a presidential library on his San Cristóbal ranch. Portraits of the former leader are mounted on walls throughout the lavish complex and the basement library displays gifts offered by various world leaders, including a riding saddle he received from former U.S. president George W. Bush.
Much has changed about his stance on cannabis—and drugs in general—since he was president. Throughout his six-year term, Fox oversaw aggressive efforts to destroy marijuana crops in the Mexican countryside as part of his commitment to fight the drug trade.
JUAREZ, MEXICO – MARCH 20: A man lays dead in the street after being shot on March 20, 2010 in Juarez, Mexico. The border city of Juarez has been racked by violent drug-related crime recently and has quickly become one of the most dangerous cities in the world. As drug cartels have been fighting over ever lucrative drug corridors along the United States border, the murder rate in Juarez has risen to 173 slayings for every 100,000 residents. President Felipe Calderón in 2009 disbanded the corrupt local police force and sent 10,000 soldiers to Juarez, but the violence has raged on. With a population of 1.3 million in Juarez, 2,600 died in drug-related violence last year and 500 so far this year, including two Americans who worked for the U.S. Consulate last weekend as they returned from a children’s party. (Photo by Spencer Platt via Getty Images)
Today, Fox says his opinion on legalization has changed because crime levels tied to the drug trade have gone up. There were 11,806 murders across the country during Fox’s last year in office, compared to 21,459 homicides during his successor Felipe Calderón’s final year.
There is no way to isolate the impact of marijuana prohibition on this death toll, but we do know that the criminalization of any drug typically fuels violence. And although official figures do not signal which are cartel-related deaths, one study estimates that organized crime was to blame for more than half of the murders during Calderón’s term.
In response to the growing homicides, Calderón deployed thousands of soldiers against the cartels and targeted major kingpins, something which Fox describes as a “terrible historical mistake” because it stoked the violence by splintering large trafficking gangs into dozens of smaller, competing factions.
Current Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has continued this militarized strategy. And based on the numbers documented for the first four months of 2018, Mexico looks set to record more than 31,000 murder victims for Peña Nieto’s final year in office.

Consequently, since leaving power, Fox has joined other former Latin American presidents in denouncing prohibition. His Mexican predecessor Ernesto Zedillo, former Colombian president César Gaviria and former Brazilian head Fernando Cardoso have also called for the decriminalization and regulation of drugs, including cannabis.
In the case of Fox, however, it’s difficult to say how much he genuinely had a change of heart. His former position on drugs—including cannabis—was undoubtedly in part motivated by politics. Despite the slow but steady relaxation of cannabis prohibition laws, a majority of Mexicans are still opposed to legalization, with only 29 percent in favor, according to a survey by the polling firm Parametría.
“I wish they [the former presidents calling for legalization] hadn’t waited,” says Raul Elizalde, an activist who won a Supreme Court ruling for his epileptic daughter to use medical cannabis in 2015. “Why don’t they support it when they’re in power? Maybe they lacked the courage, but at least they are doing it now.”
It is still against the law to sell recreational cannabis in Mexico, as it is everywhere in Latin America except Uruguay, which became the first country in the world to fully legalize in 2013. Nevertheless, Mexico began gradually liberalizing its cannabis laws in 2009, when the government decriminalized the possession of small amounts of drugs. In 2015, the Supreme Court granted four legalization advocates the right to grow and consume their own marijuana.
“The ruling was historic,” says Juan Francisco Torres-Landa, a lawyer and one of the four plaintiffs. “Our main purpose was to make sure this topic was on the agenda, and that has been the case ever since.”
Mexico’s Supreme Court granted another individual the right to grow cannabis for personal consumption in April. And last year, the government legalized the sale of some marijuana-based medicines.
The topic has proved so divisive, however, that the leading presidential candidate, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has barely mentioned it in the run-up to the elections in July. His closest rival in the polls, the right-left coalition candidate Ricardo Anaya, has remained ambivalent, saying he is open to debate but that drug legalization would not resolve Mexico’s security problems.
“While they are campaigning they don’t want to speak about this issue,” Fox says. “They think that it’s negative for voters.”

Nevertheless, support for reform has risen from just seven percent recorded by Parametría in 2008, suggesting attitudes have shifted as Mexicans have watched Uruguay—as well as nine U.S. states and Washington D.C.—opt for legalization.
Consumption has also risen steadily in recent years. As of 2016, 8.6 percent of the population had tried cannabis compared to 4.2 percent in 2008, according to Mexico’s National Addiction Survey.
Fox says he has never used cannabis himself, although he is open to trying it in the future.
“When I go to a speaking conference I have a tequila or a glass of wine before,” he says. “It puts you in a much better mood…This is what you can get out of marijuana.”
Fox would like to see a robust continental cannabis market as the plant is incorporated into the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), allowing Mexican farmers to grow weed for their northern neighbors. Last year, he projected Mexico could eventually produce up to 60 percent of legal cannabis consumed in the United States.
His family has farmed in Guanajuato for five generations and he would happily grow the plant in the future.
“We are always open to diversification,” Fox says, but the “first step is it has to be legal.”
Nevertheless, he concedes that Donald Trump’s rise to power represents a challenge to this aspiration. It’s difficult, he says, to advance legalization with “an ignorant president” heading the U.S. government.
Fox believes a thriving cannabis industry in Mexico would provide economic opportunities for those currently operating outside of the law, including small-scale farmers who have little option but to grow weed for cartels.
He concedes that criminal groups in Mexico could turn to kidnapping, extortion and other crimes that more directly impact law-abiding citizens if continental cannabis legalization triggered a curb in profits. Yet in the long term, he argues that cutting the supply of money from the U.S. market is the only way to disempower criminals.
Cartels “are very active on many fronts,” Fox says, but “the easiest way” for them to make money is through drugs.
The authorization of marijuana sales in the United States has already had an impact on cartels and cartel-related violence. Last year, U.S. Border Patrol seized less than 900,000 pounds of marijuana, compared to more than 2.4 million pounds in 2013, the year before retail pot shops began opening in the United States. To make up for the shortfall, cartels have turned to importing more potent drugs such as heroin and methamphetamine.
Fox would like to see these drugs legalized eventually as well, although he argues that full legalization of weed alone could offer drug traffickers the opportunity to move out of the shadows.
“With a new culture, a new way of thinking, all those criminals for the first time have options,” Fox says. “We can move out of criminalization—with death, blood on the streets, underground activities—into a new industry. That’s a real change.”

Love Letters - Chapter 1
Festivals are one of the reasons Jude hates people. The crowds, the noise and the expectations of social interactions are too much for him; give him a wide, open field with no one in sight and he’s happy.
Renaissance festivals are hell on Earth. Not only are there crowds of people with whining children and rude customers, but they are dressed up in ridiculous, cringe-worthy costumes, talking like idiots and making believe. There’s something about the total lack of inhibitions that completely rubs him the wrong way-- he, who would die before letting someone see him dressing up or pretending.
So why has he agreed to working in one for the entire summer?
The problem started when he was born. No, alright, it might have been two years ago when he showed up at Nesbitt’s Ranch & Stable penniless, hopeless and desperate for work. Being in that position is dangerous: you are forced to rely on the kindness of others, which means you are in their pocket forever more. Not that Tara Nesbitt would have forced him to do any favours for her, but she had to know that he owed her so much that he would never say ‘no’ to any request. Even if it involved tending to the horses at the local Rennfaire.
Thank God the stables are out of the thick of things. They are tacked onto the side of a jousting ring on the north end of the faire grounds, and don’t even show up on ye-olde map in the centre of the ‘village’. Visiting the horses isn’t recommended and Jude is afforded some measure of privacy when he is working.
He gathers that this isn’t the largest faire, but he can’t imagine something like this being any more popular than this. He is still astounded that hundreds of people file in every weekend, and even on weekdays the place is almost full. Not everyone dresses up-- most families they are here to watch the events: the archery and the music and the juggling.
But whenever Jude is forced to walk through the faire, seeking the bathroom conveniently situated on the other side of the square, he eyes those who come in costume, wondering how on Earth a fairy is considered Renaissance, or what a pirate was doing this far from the coast.
“Jude!” He wants to run away at the sound of the name because who the hell would recognize him at one of these things but then he sees Matias and reminds himself that part of the reason he agreed to this fiasco was because one of his only friends had convinced him. Just barely.
“Ugh,” Jude offers in greeting. Matias is in costume, and Jude doesn’t even want to look at him. He does, anyway, and has to admit that his outfit is actually pretty convincing. Matias works here as a knight and they have probably given him one of the higher quality costumes: a long black tabard with silver embroidery along the seams and a crest of five silver lions on his chest. He wore it belted over real half-plate armor, with a long sword on his hip. With his tall, muscular frame, Matias might have been convincing, if it weren’t for the cellphone in his hand.
“Won’t you get in trouble for that?” Jude asks, nodding to the phone. Matias blinks in surprise and stows the phone in a leather pouch on his belt.
“It’s hard to remember to stay in character sometimes,” he says with a half grin. “Luckily most of this job is riding or I’d definitely get fired.”
“What, no heroic stage performances?” Jude says, stowing his hands in his own pockets and giving what he knows is a smarmy smile to his friend. “No princesses to save?”
Matias looks uncomfortable as he shifts weight from one leg to the other. “There’s a princess, but she hardly needs saving. More likely I’m going to have to save the other staff from her...”
Jude’s eyes wander to the pavilion on the other side of the square where the official faire ‘princess’ is available for pictures in her off time. He hasn’t met her yet, but one look has already told him that she is not any sort of damsel in distress.
“Yeah, good luck with that.”
“I take it you are still determined not to meet any of the other staff?” Matias asks, and Jude is annoyed that he has to go through this conversation for the hundredth time. Does Matias really think his opinion has changed after only two days of work?
“No offense, Matias, but these people are ridiculous. You might ride and joust, which I guess redeems you to an extent, but some of the staff literally just walk around in character. They just pretend all day. They LARP for a living!” Jude eyes a particularly animate pirate making grand gestures to a watching group of tourists, and cringes so hard he feels it in the marrow of his bones.
“Judge not, young stable master,” Matias replies in a deliberate accent, and Jude wants to smack the stupid grin off of his face.
“I hate you and everyone here,” Jude says, suppressing a laugh. “I gotta go. See you before the joust.”
At least the horses are straightforward. They don’t talk back, but the traitors seem to enjoy the festival. Several of the mares are getting over excited at the sound of the waiting crowd. He has to chide them into standing still while he checks their shoes and puts on their elaborate outfits. “You’re a geek for a good LARP, aren’t you Red?” he asks the ginger who he has a soft spot for. “Can’t wait to dress up for the crowd. Goddamn nerd.” The mare utters a low whiny that makes him laugh. It’s a lot easier to interact with the animals than any of those people outside, and he’s grateful that only the ‘knights’ tend to come back here.
Other than Matias, there are 5 other regular staff who ride the horses. This includes the other knights, a falconer, and two circus performers. They each have a horse they prefer and Jude finds it easy to stable-talk to them-- at least he’s confident about the subject matter. They don’t pay him much mind, sticking to the business of horses and avoiding small talk. Thank God.
The other staff at the faire are not as forgiving. There are a pile of them that range from the ages of 18 to 25, university students for the most part, spending their summer semester working. They are typical fun-loving young people and are social to a fault. Jude has actually physically hidden behind a stall door just to avoid having the make friends with them.
Sometimes, however, he is taken by surprise. Because fucking hell if it isn’t the ‘pirate’ he saw before, wearing a self-assured smirk to make up for his embarrassing lack of beard. He’s probably going for that young, suave, prince-of-thieves sort of stereotype, complete with a loose tunic and tight leather pants. He’s obviously one of the main cast members because his blue coat is about as high-quality as Matias’s tunic, with shiny gold buttons and complex rope embroidery.
Jude watches him approach the stable where he is almost literally tethered to a horse and realizes it is too late to pretend he didn’t see him coming. What the hell is a pirate doing near the stables, anyway? Why the hell was a pirate at a rennfaire in the middle of a prairie province, hundreds of kilometres from the ocean? How the hell did they manage to shove a pirate into a storyline involving a medieval princess?
“Hey kid,” the pirate says casually and Jude feels himself bristling with dislike instantly. He’s practically swaggering. “Do you know who Matias is? Tall, dark and handsome? Likes to sit astride horses and carries a big stick?”
Is this guy for real?
“Yeah,” Jude mutters and he isn’t reserved with the skeptical look he gives the pirate. He can’t be much older than Jude is, if at all. He’s taller, but only by a margin. Jude writes him off as a university student-- probably in a drama program, no less.
“Would you kindly assist me in finding him?”
“I’m good.” Jude turns back to the horse, the big black one who Matias usually rides, both here and back at Nesbitt’s. He is brushing out the sleek cloak, despite it already shining like silk. Anything to finishing conversing with an over enthusiastic D&D character.
The pirate makes an impatient noise. “Come on, dude,” he says, dropping character. “He said he’d meet here. Are you expecting him soon, or…?”
“No idea.” Jude is well aware of how unhelpful he is being, but he wasn’t hired to do customer service. Or to talk to anyone, really.
“Wow, I guess it’s true what they say about the janitorial staff.”
“Excuse me?” Jude can’t help it-- he’s always been one to rise to the bait. Even if this guy wasn’t trying to get him going, he unwittingly set a trap that Jude is going to fucking destroy. “This coming from a glorified cosplayer?”
“Cosplayer?” the pirate snaps back, because apparently his fuse isn’t much longer than Jude’s. “I’ll have you know I’m an actor!”
“Because that’s definitely different,” Jude says with a glare. “Sounds like a really hard job.”
“It takes training,” the pirate insists and Jude can see little pink patches forming on his tanned cheekbones. “It’s not a job any idiot could do.”
“No, just one idiot.”
The pirate’s mouth opens to respond but Jude is delighted when no words come out. It’s not often he manages to one-up someone in a verbal sparring match. He lets a smirk form over his face and it’s probably a good thing that Matias shows up at that moment because he is so tempted to tear this guy to shreds.
“Hey Marcos,” says Matias with a friendliness that meant he was not reading the tension in the air.
‘Marcos’ has to be the worst name Jude has ever heard.
“I see you’ve met Jude.”
The pirate narrows his eyes at Jude, a look of dislike clear on his face. “Yeah, you could say that.”
“Charmed, I’m sure,” Jude says with an exaggerated bow and the look the pirate gives him said ‘murder’.
It’s definitely worth the look of confusion on Matias’s face.
---------------
“And then,” Marcos continues, because he isn’t even close to being done. “He goes on to talk to Matias as if they are best friends or something. Matias’s just being nice because he’s got a soft spot for losers.”
“And he’s friends with us because…” John supplies, which isn’t helpful, and Marcos glares at him to make sure he knows it. He’s slowly rotating a leg of mutton over a small flame, basting it every so often with a thin brown sauce. He’s always been able to multitask while cooking, even delivering devastating one-liners that have Marcos foaming at the mouth.
“The difference is Matias actually likes us,” he reasons, gesturing for emphasis. He’s leaning on the food cart that John is manning, taking advantage of the shade from the awning. It’s the tail end of Spring and the afternoons are already getting too warm for full costume. What the hell is he going to do in July?
“And there’s no way he can like this horse guy-- what was his name?”
“Jude,” Marcos says, rolling the name on his tongue with distaste. “What the hell kind of name is that?”
“He sounds pretty normal to me,” John says with an irritating amount of calm and reason. Marcos loves the guy, he really does, but being as close as brothers means that they are also completely honest with each other. John isn’t going to agree with Marcos out of friendship. He’s going to disagree with him out of love.
“Well, wait until you meet him,” Marcos says while crossing arms stubbornly over his chest. “Better yet, just avoid the stables and save yourself the trouble. He called us cosplayers, John!”
John looks down at himself, at his finely embroidered yellow tunic under a thick leather kidney belt, his loose, burlap pants, and tall brown boots. “We’re sort of cosplaying, dude.”
“As what, though, John?” Marcos says triumphantly. “Made up characters don’t count. I am Captain Fitzwilliam Cobalt of the galleon León, trolling the open seas for American gold and I have way too much backstory written to be reduced to a cosplay, man.”
“Listen, Marcos,” John says, actually putting down his baster for a minute and paying full attention to his friend. “I’m super stoked that you have gotten into this character so much and honestly I love your enthusiasm, but you can’t let one guy throw you off. If you are proud of your job then this sort of thing should roll off your shoulder. Not everyone is going to think of this job as glamorous, but we love it, right?”
As if on cue, a small cluster of girls approach the cart-- ‘real customers’, as John likes to call them. Marcos eyeballs them as roughly his age or slightly younger and quickly falls into character.
“My apologies, ladies,” he says with not quite an accent, but definitely a lilt to his voice that suggests a historic nobility. He adds a little bow that sends one of the girls into fits of giggles. “I was conversing with master Palamo. My friend, do treat these charming ladies to the best you have to offer.” He pushes himself away from the cart.
“How can I help you?” John adds with a smile that is almost as charming as Marcos’s act. The first of the girls looks bashful as she fishes in her shoulder bag for a wallet.
“I, uh, I’m looking for some corn?” She gestures awkwardly to the line of barbequed corn propped up on wooden sticks.
“Might I suggest a dusting of the princesses favourite seasoning?” John says with considerably less flirting than Marcos, but somehow coming off as 500 times more charming. “Honestly, it’s actually my favourite. Best on popcorn, but someone decided that popcorn wasn’t renaissance enough, I guess. Fun fact: popcorn was probably eaten by Aztecs thousands of years before the Europeans, so there’s that.”
“The History of Food, with John Palamo,” Marcos provides, leaning on the posts supporting the awning.
“I’d buy popcorn,” one of the girls pipes up before looking a little abashed that she had the nerve. A little smile cracks on her dark face, revealing pearly teeth.
“For a smile like that, I would gladly sail the oceans to the new world in search of popcorn,” Marcos adds, leaning close as if speaking in confidence. The girl blinks and presses her lips together with a little embarrassed grin.
The girls settle on barbecued corn on the cob, exchanging money and smiles before falling into excited giggles as they wandered away from the cart.
“Admit it, dude,” John says, going back to basting his mutton. “You love this job.”
“Bitch, do I ever.”

41 Of The Creepiest Unsolved Mysteries Of All Time
Settle in, this is a long one. These “scariest” unsolved mysteries are based on the opinions of the people over on r/unresolvedmysteries who know enough about unsolved cases at large to be experts on the creepiest ones. If you’re looking for a lengthy thread of bite-sized “true scary stories”, we’ve got one of those too.
The woman who recorded other people’s voices on her sleep app
Here’s how she describes what happened:
“This night I was sleeping in my bed – my 3 year old was with me that night as he is scared of the dark. It was just the two of us in the whole house. The next night I decided to go through and delete my recordings and saw this particular record. In it, you can here some clicks that start to get louder over the course of the recording. Eventually you can hear me say “What are you doing??” and immediately after there is a deep voice that says “Nothing”. The clicks become very loud at that point and at the very end of the recording you hear the same voice say “That’s them” (I think?). I am pretty creeped out by this. I don’t remember being awake that night. The only plausible explanation is that I answered my own sleeping talking but the voice doesn’t even sound like me or something I could emulate. It definitely doesn’t sound like a voice my preschooler could emulate, either. I have no idea what the clicks could be. I keep a fan going at night for white noise but the clicks sounds like they’re coming from right near my phone (which is placed right by me on my bedside table). I want to say that I’ve picked up the clicks a few times on recordings before but deleted them thinking it was nothing – this is the first time I’ve ever heard anything, though.”
Here is the audio of the recording. The woman has since moved to a new house, but one Redditer who followed up with the story said:
“I actually private messaged with the OP of the sleep app story. She was happy to say that things were going well in their new home, and her son was doing well. However, if you look at the more recently dated comments after the story was posted, OP says her son had started asking where “Ho” was and seeing “the black guy with no face.” OP and I exchanged some PMs about a year after their original post to discuss what could be going on, and apparently “Ho” followed them to their new home.”

Dutroux
“Last one: a somewhat bigger mystery, but truly terrifying. Dutroux is a well known Belgian child abuser that was caught in the 90’s. It turns out the circle of abuse is much bigger and influential than one can imagine. This is a very long and well documented read about how the investigation into child abuse is being hampered by government, police, upper class figures, etc. It takes a strong stomach to digest the witness accounts (highly nsfw) and a strong stomach to digest the injustice.” — IamScuzzlebut
The murder of Mark Kilroy
Wikimedia
From Wikipedia:
He was taken by his abductors to a ranch where he was murdered in a human sacrifice ritual. Kilroy was killed with a machete blow and then had his brain removed and boiled in a pot. His killers then inserted a wire through his backbone, chopped off his legs, and buried him at the ranch along with 14 other people who had been killed there before him.
Jodine Serrin
From Reddit:
Serrin lived on her own, but depended on her family for help due to her mental challenges. Late in the evening of Valentine’s Day 2007, Jodine’s parents went to the condo they had purchased on Swallow Lane for their daughter and walked in on what they thought was an awkward situation. Art Serrin went to find his daughter in her bedroom, and saw a man having sex with her.
According to a 10News report, Serrin told the man to get dressed and then he and his wife, Lois, went to wait for what they expected to be an embarrassed couple to join them in the kitchen. After several minutes, Serrin returned to the bedroom and found his daughter murdered, having been beaten and strangled to death. The man had escaped, possibly through a back door.
In fact, as investigators later found, she had been dead for between 12 and 24 hours.
Dale Kerstetter
YouTube
From Reddit:
At 11:00 PM on September 12, 1987, 50-year old Dale Kerstetter showed up to work the overnight shift as security guard at the Corning Glassworks plant in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Dale was a divorced father of six who worked at the plant for 29 years, but had recently been transferred from his position as a trades worker to a security guard, which involved him taking a pay cut of between $5,000-7,000 per year. At 7:00 AM the following morning, Dale’s relief arrived and discovered he was missing. Dale’s truck was still in the parking lot with the keys in the ignition. His daypack and a full carton of cigarettes were inside the truck, along with the holster for a .22 caliber gun he carried which was never found. Dale’s keys to the plant and a newspaper were found on a table in the cafeteria, along with his lunch pail, which still had all his food inside. A police dog was brought in and tracked Dale’s scent from the cafeteria to the second floor, but it came to an end at the plant’s glass furnace.
The security tape from that night was later checked. The plant had three security cameras and the feed would alternate between each camera at random intervals. The footage revealed an unidentified masked intruder walking through the plant at various points between midnight and 1:00 AM. In one of the shots, the intruder was seen meeting up with Dale in the back of the plant. They both walked past the security camera together, where Dale appeared to look up and stare directly at the camera before they disappeared out of frame. Dale did not show up in the security footage again, but one shot showed the intruder heading towards the glass furnace, the same area where the police dog tracked Dale’s scent. There was also a shot of the intruder wheeling a large bag through the plant on a manual forklift. It was soon discovered that $250,000 worth of platinum lining had been stolen from the furnace.
On the surface, it appeared the intruder had forced Dale to escort him to the area containing the platinum before he subsequently murdered him and disposed of his body. However, Corning’s management believed that Dale was actually involved in the theft.
When Dale walked through the plant and stared directly into the security camera, some people interpreted this as a signal for help, but Corning thought Dale might have been taunting them about his crime. At the time, Dale was in debt and unhappy that his employer had cut his pay and given him a security position, so Corning believed Dale willingly escorted the intruder to the furnace, helped him steal the platinum, and then skipped town with his share of the profits. Of course, Dale’s family did not believe he would get involved in anything illegal and abandon his children, so they feared he was an innocent victim of foul play. Whatever the truth, there has been no trace of Dale Kerstetter in nearly 30 years.
The Circleville Letters
A woman and her husband in Circleville, Ohio started getting creepy letters. One day, the husband received a letter and got riled up enough that he got his gun and left the house. He was letter found dead in a car crash, his gun had been fired. The husband’s brother was eventually charged with the crime, but began receiving the same letters once he was in prison.
Here’s a nice write-up on the whole store from The Line-up.
The Sodder Children
Wikimedia
From Wikipedia:
On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1945, a fire destroyed the Sodder home in Fayetteville, West Virginia, United States. At the time, it was occupied by George Sodder, his wife Jennie, and nine of their ten children. During the fire, George, Jennie, and four of the nine children escaped. The bodies of the other five children were never found. The Sodders believed for the rest of their lives that the five missing children survived.

Blind River Killer
I remember this as the scariest episode of in which an elderly couple on a cross country road trip stopped at a rest area to sleep for the night. In the middle of the night attacked the couple and shot and killed a bystander to came to their aid. He drove off in a blue van and was never caught.
East Area Rapist / The Original Nightstalker
American Law Enforcement
A serial rapist and killer who raped at least 50 women in northern California in the 70’s. He has never been identified.
A few things that make this killer a bit creepier than the rest:
1. The East Area Rapist sent letters and drawings to newspapers in the area taunting citizens. Here’s a map he drew of what is believed to be his “ideal” suburban neighborhood stalking grounds:
Sacramento Police Department
2. He would call and taunt his victims or intended victims. He called one woman he raped to wish her a merry Christmas, saying:
Merry Christmas, it’s me again! (hangs up)
You can listen to some of the phone calls here, but please be warned, these are very disturbing!!
youtube
3. There was a town meeting to discuss the rapist/killer at large. During the meeting one man stood up to say that the East Area Rapist could never harm his family because he wouldn’t “let” something like that happen to his wife. His wife was latter attacked leading people to believe the actual East Area Rapist attended the town meeting. A photo from that meeting exists.
Keddie Cabin Murders
3ternalist01
From Wikipedia:
Glenna “Sue” Sharp, 36, and her five children had been renting the cabin since November 1980. At approximately 7:45 AM on the morning of April 12, Sheila Sharp, upon returning from the sleepover next door, discovered the tied-up bodies of Sue, John and Dana in the home’s living room. Plumas County Sheriff’s deputies later determined Tina Sharp was missing from the location. The murders have been commented upon for their particular viciousness.
After approximately 4,000 man-hours spent on the case, it grew cold but, in 1984, the cranium portion of a skull was recovered near Feather Falls in neighboring Butte County, a distance of roughly 63 miles (2 hours 12 minutes) from Keddie. Butte County Sheriff’s Office released both the original and back-up copy of the audio recording of the ‘anonymous call’ to an undisclosed member of law enforcement.
As of May 2017, no arrests have been made in connection with the Keddie murders, although two suspects who had criminal records, now deceased, have been proposed. In 2004, Cabin 28 was demolished.
There’s been a recent break in the case that, for many, may explain what happened:
On March 24, 2016, a hammer matching the description of a hammer suspect Martin Smartt said he lost shortly before the murders was taken into evidence by Plumas County Special Investigator Mike Gamberg. Sheriff Hagwood stated, “the location it was found… It would have been intentionally put there. It would not have been accidentally misplaced.

Morgan Nick
Wikimedia
From Wikipedia:
On June 9, 1995, Morgan Nick and her mother, Colleen Nick, went to a Little League baseball game in their town of Alma, Arkansas. At around 10:30 p.m., Morgan asked her mother if she could catch lightning bugs with her friends. At first, her mother was uncertain, but eventually let her go. She was last seen at 10:45 p.m. by her friends, emptying sand out of her shoes alone near her mother’s car while her group of friends emptied their shoes a few dozen feet away. Morgan’s friends reported seeing a “creepy” man talking to Morgan as she was putting her shoes back on.
When the game ended shortly thereafter, Morgan’s friends returned without her. They told Colleen that Morgan was at her car, but when Colleen returned to the car, Morgan was not there. She has not been seen or heard from since.

Hinterkaifeck murders
Andreas Biegleder
From Wikipedia:
A few days prior to the crime, farmer Andreas Gruber told neighbors about discovering footprints in the snow leading from the edge of the forest to the farm, but none leading back. He also spoke about hearing footsteps in the attic and finding an unfamiliar newspaper on the farm. Furthermore, the house keys went missing several days before the murders. None of this was reported to the police prior to the attack.
Six months earlier, the previous maid had left the farm, claiming that it was haunted; the new maid, Maria Baumgartner, arrived on the farm on the day of the attack and was killed hours later.
Exactly what happened on that Friday evening cannot be said for certain. It is believed that the older couple, as well as their daughter Viktoria, and her daughter, Cäzilia, were all lured into the barn one by one, where they were killed. The perpetrator(s) then went into the house where they killed two‑year‑old Josef, who was sleeping in his cot in his mother’s bedroom, as well as the maid, Maria Baumgartner, in her bedchamber.
On the following Tuesday, April 4, neighbors came to the farmstead because none of its inhabitants had been seen for a few days.
Dorothy Jane Scott
From Wikipedia:
Dorothy Jane Scott disappeared on May 28, 1980, in Anaheim, California. She had driven two co-workers to the hospital after one had been bitten by a spider. While they were waiting for a prescription to be filled, Scott went to get her car and bring it around to meet them. Her car approached them, but it sped away; neither could see who was driving as its headlights had blinded them. They reported her missing a couple of hours later, after not hearing from her. In the preceding months, Scott had been receiving anonymous phone calls from a man who had reportedly been stalking her. He had threatened to get her alone and “cut [her] up into bits so no one will ever find [her]”.
Dyatlov Pass Incident
Soviet investigators
From Reddit:
The Dyatlov Pass Incident is the unsolved disappearance of nine hikers in the Ural mountains in Russia in 1959, and subsequent discovery. There’s a whole lot of details to this case which are mentioned in the link, but for a brief summary:
Ten experienced ski hikers embark upon a trek through a mountain pass that locals describe as “Devil’s Pass.”
One of the hikers returns on his own due to illness. The others continue ahead. After the party don’t return when expected, a search party is sent out into the mountains to look for them. Their campsite was eventually found, abandoned and slashed open from the inside, and the bodies were eventually all found at various points nearby in various unusual states, including some naked or undressed, some with their heads basically smashed in (which later investigations showed were impossible to have been done by humans).
This is a conspiracy theorist’s wet dream, with details that don’t add up, Cold War/KGB cover-ups, UFO sightings, cryptozoology (yeti theories), weapons testing, nuclear radiation emanating from the bodies, stories of local savage tribes etc. But even without all that, it’s still a pretty eerie story on its own.
Dyatlov Pass is a total rabbit hole and it’s one of my personal favorite mysteries.
Laureen Rahn
From Reddit:
14-year-old Laureen Rahn was last seen in her apartment in Manchester, New Hampshire on April 26th, 1980. She spent the evening drinking beer with a male and female friend while her mother Judith was away at a tennis tournament. At some point, the boy heard voices in the hallway and left through the back door, thinking Judith was coming home. He stated he heard Laureen lock the door behind him.
When Judith finally returned at midnight, she found the building completely dark because the light bulbs on all three floors had been unscrewed. She checked Laureen’s room and thought she saw Laureen asleep on the bed. In the morning, however, this turned out to be Laureen’s friend, who said that she had last seen Laureen going to sleep on the couch. Laureen’s clothes and new sneakers were in the living room, and the back door was open.
The police investigation went nowhere until Judith looked at her phone bill and discovered she had been charged for three phone calls made from Santa Monica, California on October 1st, 1980, three months after Lauren went missing. Two of these calls were placed from a Santa Monica motel to another motel in Santa Ana. The third call was to a teen sexual assistance hotline run by a plastic surgeon. Authorities in Santa Monica questioned this surgeon, and he denied knowing anything about Laureen.
Judith hired her own investigator in 1985, who questioned the doctor again. This time he altered his story and said that his wife was sometimes visited by runaway girls (!?) and that one of these girls may have been from New Hampshire. He also believed that a colleague of his wife’s named Annie Sprinkle knew more about these runaways. Authorities looked into this and found that Sprinkle was involved in the pornography industry, but nothing was found linking her to Laureen.
Another investigator traveled to Santa Monica in 1986 and learned that the two hotels may have been used by a child pornographer named “Dr. Z.”, but authorities couldn’t find a connection between “Dr. Z” and the doctor who ran the hotline.
For a year after the disappearance, Judith reported getting regular phone calls at around 3:45 a.m., but there would be nothing but silence on the line when she answered. She received similar calls around the Christmas holidays for several years until she finally changed her number. According to Charley Project, a childhood friend of Laureen’s received a call from someone claiming to be her in 1986. His mother answered the phone, but unfortunately the article doesn’t elaborate on what the caller said.
In the previous thread about this, the OP quoted someone from a forum post who claims that her mother was the friend who was with Laureen when she vanished. Her mother said that they were hanging out with two guys that day (not one as stated in Charley Project) and that Laureen may have left with one of them. The guy who left through the back door committed suicide in 1985 and is not considered a suspect.
It is also worth nothing that other women, Denise Denault and Rachael Garden, of similar physical appearance to Laureen, disappeared from the same area within a six-week time period. Their cases are also unsolved and have never been linked.

“Down the hill”
From Wikipedia:
On February 14, 2017, the bodies of Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German were discovered on an American hiking trail in Delphi, Indiana, after the young girls had disappeared from the same trail the previous day. The murders have received significant media coverage due to the fact that a photo and audio recording of a man believed to be girls’ murderer was found on the cell phone of German. Despite the photo and audio recording of the suspect being released to the public by police, and an estimated 18,000 tips being sent to police, no arrests have been made in the case.

Lars Mittank
Findet Lars Mittank
From Reddit:
a case about a 28 year old man from Germany, Lars Mittank, who visited Bulgaria with his friends. This place in Bulgaria is very famous for young people from Germany and England, same as Mallorca or Ibiza.
Mittank got involved into a fight and hurt his ear. Something that happens always at those places where many young people are partying.
He stayed there and enjoyed the rest of his holidays with his friends. When they had to leave though, the doctor said he can not use the airplane because of his ear. He decided to stay in Bulgaria and rented a room in a hostel while his friends left.
He called at night his mother and said he fears for his life.
Here is a footage from the airport. Mittank wanted to leave again and catch his next flight. He went to the doctors office though, with all his stuff, suitcase etc. After that, he runs out from the doctors office.
People outside saw him how he climbed over a fence and disappeared in a nearby forrest. Till today, no one knows what happened or where he is. His family is still searching for him, there is even a facebook page.
Elisa Lam
youtube
From Wikipedia:
Her disappearance had been widely reported; interest had increased five days prior to her body’s discovery when the Los Angeles Police Department released video of the last time she was known to have been seen, on the day of her disappearance, by an elevator security camera. In the footage, Lam is seen exiting and re-entering the elevator, talking and gesturing in the hallway outside, and sometimes seeming to hide within the elevator, which itself appears to be malfunctioning. The video went viral on the Internet, with many viewers reporting that they found it unsettling. Explanations ranged from claims of paranormal involvement to bipolar disorder from which Lam suffered; it has also been argued that the video was altered prior to release.
The circumstances of Lam’s death, when she was found, also raised questions, especially in light of the Cecil’s history in relation to other notable deaths and murders. Her body was naked with most of her clothes and personal effects floating in the water near her. It took the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office four months, after repeated delays, to release the autopsy report, which reports no evidence of physical trauma and states that the cause of death was accidental. Guests at the Cecil, now re-branded as Stay on Main, sued the hotel over the incident, and Lam’s parents filed a separate suit later that year; the latter was dismissed in 2015.
Paula Jean Weldon
From Reddit:
Paula Jean Weldon was a sophomore at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont in the fall of 1946. On December 1st, she told her roommate, Elizabeth Johnson, that she was “through with studies; I’m taking a long walk” . Dressed in a red parka coat with a fur lined hood, blue jeans, Top-Sider shoes with thick soles, and a gold Elgin wristwatch with a black band, she made no indication she planned on staying gone for very long.
She was supposed to walk part of Vermont’s Long Trail. Danny Fager, who owned a gas station near the college gates, said he spotted Paula. He said he had seen her run up then down the side of the gravel pit near the entrance of the college around 2:45 P.M. 15 minutes late, Louis Knapp claimed to have picked up a young girl matching Paula’s description on Route 67A and let her out on Route 9, near the Long Trail. Just after 4 P.M., she was spotted by several people in Bickford Hollow, seemingly headed toward the trail. When Paula did not come home later that night, Elizabeth was not yet worried, and did not warn anyone. The next morning when Paula had still not come back by the next morning, she contacted College President Lewis Webster Jones. Jones then phoned Paula’s parents to ask if she had gone home for the weekened.
Mrs. Welden collapsed with worry. Her father, W. Archibald Welden immediately left the family home in Stamford, Connecticut. He helped organize a massive search party, but their search turned up empty. He then called the New York and Connecticut state police forces, as VT did not have a state police force at the time.
Days passed and Paula was still missing. Then, a waitress in Fall River, Massaschusetts claimed to have served dinner to a “disturbed” women fitting Paula’s description. Strangely, after hearing this, Mr. Welden vanished for 36 hours. After his return, people began to suspect that he had something to do with his daughter’s disappearance. It came to light that Mr. Welden did not approve of a boy Paula had been seeing. He claimed this boyfriend had to be the responsible party, but his only proof came from a clairvoyant. He then began to trash the police for their lack of professionalism and lack of records. Mr. Welden soon returned to his home in Stamford.
Poor weather eventually halted the search for Paula, but 9 years later, a lumberjack came forward saying he knew where her body was buried. After being questioned, he eventually admitted making it up for publicity. Then, in 1968, a skeleton was found. It was later determined it was far too old to be Paula.
There have been many theories as to what happened to Paula that fateful December day. Did she simply get lost in the woods and die in the elements or did she run off with her boyfriend? Or did the so called Bennington Triangle, where 5 people vanished between 1945 and 1950, have something to do with it?
Sadly, as more and more time passes, it seems very unlikely the case of what happened to Paula Jean Welden will ever be solved.
Grave Robbing for Morons
youtube
From Reddit:
In the early 1990s, a homemade VHS circulated around called “Grave Robbing for Morons”. It features a young man explaining how to rob graves without getting caught, what bones are most valuable, and other grave robbing “tips.” In the video he shows what appears to be an actual human skull that he’s stolen and at the end he gives the nicknames of himself and his grave robbing crew: “Anthony, “Gino, “Taco”, and “Pucci” and vows to continue robbing graves for the fun of it. To this day, no one knows who made this video or who the narrator is. There is a site dedicated to finding out the origin of the video and the identity of the narrator, but they don’t have any additional information to add.
Because of the over-the-top nature of some of the advice, some believe that the video is an act intended to cash in on the pseudo-reality television craze that was going on thanks to things like Faces of Death. But others seem to think that at the very least the narrator has robbed graves, and that this could be a “legit” (i.e. not faked) video.
Kathryn Ott
From Reddit:
This missing person’s case does not have much coverage and I am hoping to bring some interest back to this 3 year old unresolved disappearance.
In 2014, Kathryn Gayle Ott was 56 years old. She was 62-64 inches tall and weighed around 125-140 pounds. Kathy had brown eyes, that may appear hazel and wore eyeglasses. She avoided driving at night. She underwent a hysterectomy in 2013 that left her with an abdominal scar. She had a bad left knee cap with noticeable scarring from where a wire was placed to keep the knee together. She had been losing her blonde, graying hair and wore a wig. Her family believes she had been recently diagnosed with a serious medical condition in 2014, although she had not disclosed any details of an illness to them.
Kathy packed up her things and left her husband at their home in Lapeer, Michigan, in May 2014 after receiving social security disability with back pay. CORRECTION: She received supplemental security income with back pay. She drove her 2003 gray Chevrolet Impala with Michigan tag 2JS N90 to her son’s home in Gulf Shores, Alabama arriving in the end of May 2014.
On June 17th, 2014, she left Alabama after finding out she would not be able to receive her SSI checks. Her wig was left behind at her son’s home. According to family, a missing person’s report was filed and her children have not spoken to her since she left Gulf Shores.
But in late August 2014, Kathy called her father from St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where she was receiving treatment for unknown reasons. This is the last time anyone heard from or saw Kathy.
Her NamUs case file has Murfreesboro Police Department as the investigating agency and her missing person’s report was filed February 27th, 2015.
What did Kathy do for 2 months with no incoming money? How did she end up in Murfreesboro?
Where is Kathryn Ott?

Jessica Haddix
From Reddit:
Jessica Haddix, 29, went missing in late April of 2009 from the Perry County area of Kentucky. In early May of the same year, her body was found in the Knott County area on an old strip mining area. She was wrapped in a tarp and stuffed in a drain pipe. I don’t think they ever released her cause of death, but IIRC she was killed around the same time she was reported missing.
She was last seen arguing with her ex-husband, who she had been living with. Jessica had two kids, one with this ex. She was reportedly threatening to leave him and was planning on taking their son with her. Her ex was also seemingly abusive. Jessica had even showed up to her daughter’s soccer game with a black eye on time.
After she was last seen, her ex-husband was seen on camera using her food stamp card at a local grocery. Her car was found not far from his house.
A local woman who did Jessica’s taxes tried calling her, not knowing that Jessica was already missing and presumably dead. She was calling to inform Jessica that she needed to come in and sign some papers. Jessica’s ex-husband answered the phone and simply said Jessica was not there, and hung up.
After her body was found, her ex-husband received custody of their son. The woman who tried calling Jessica reported the phone call to the police, and they said they would look into it. They never followed up with woman.
Most people are convinced her ex-husband killed her to stop her from taking their son.
His parents were well known, and had many connections in the community. The investigation into her death was virtually non-existent, and it seems to point to a cover up by the local PD. It seems plausible, because how do you put no effort into what seems to be a murder that seems easily solvable? No DNA tests were ran, ex-husband has no alibi, no arrests were made and nobody was thoroughly questioned. So was it shotty, inexperienced officers? Or a cover up?
Her daughter was barely 9 years old and her son wasn’t even a toddler when their mother was murdered. They had to grow up without a mom. Jessica and her family deserve justice.
Missy Bevers
youtube
From Reddit:
On April 18th, 2016, 45 year old fitness instructor, Terri Bevers (who often went by the name Missy) was brutally murdered inside Creekside Church located in Midlothian, Texas in the early hours of the morning.
At the time, she was getting preparations ready for a fitness class — Camp Gladiator — before her students were to arrive at 5 in the morning. Once class was soon to begin, that’s when Missy’s students discovered her lifeless body. Her death was caused by puncture wounds to the head and chest.
As the investigation went underway, the police discovered surveillance footage [inside the church] with the suspect dressed in tactical gear [SWAT]. This person was dressed to the nine, from the vest, pants, boots and even a helmet, along with a hammer that was used for Missy’s murder.
This is where things became peculiar. Whomever this POI is, they had a very unorthodoxed and unnatural posture/stance, especially when walking aimlessly. Whether this was intentional or not, it cannot be confirmed.
Nevertheless, this footage did allow the police to build a timeline of events.
Surveillance shows the suspect inside walking around casually and opening the many doors. Not only that, this incident took place at approximately 4:15 in the morning, just 45 minutes before Missy’s class was to start.
Although presumed to be male, officers are still unsure on the gender of this individual. Subsequently, investigators started to look into Missy’s personal life. Due to search warrants the police were able to find — possible — motives.
Missy was a mother of three kids and having a lot of troubles financially and with her marriage, specifically on her part with unfaithfulness. Texts and other forms of messages found her being flirtatious with another male(s?). With that being uncovered, police finally had their biggest break in the case, yet unfortunately that avenue didn’t provide any substantial clues that would help determine Missy’s killer.
Missy’s husband, Brandon, told police he strongly believes that the murderer is a female and knew her on some form of personal basis. Furthermore, he suggests that this unidentified person attempted to make this tragedy look like a burglary gone wrong, mainly due to surveillance showing this individual opening doors and breaking glass windows.
The strangeness of this case didn’t stop there, however. A few days after the murder had happened, Missy’s father-in-law, Randy Bevers, went to the dry cleaners bringing in a women’s XXL long sleeve shirt covered in blood. He told the employees that it was merely from a Chihuahua dog that was recently injured and taken to a vet.
Out of suspicion, employees contacted the police and the shirt was subjected to DNA testing for evidence. Nonetheless, the vet was able to confirm this incident. Although the shirt became ruled out, investigators still had their eye on Randy.
More interestingly enough, Randy, the father-in-law, is roughly the same height and weight of the stranger captured on surveillance. While this crime was making its coverage on various television news channels, the family of Missy were brought into the public eye.
During a particular broadcast, the father-in-law was interviewed. As such, many people noticed that his demeanor was slightly different in terms of emotion. Not only that, the way Randy walked was practically identical to the POI in the surveillance footage. Eight months has since passed by and despite all of this information, the case is still unsolved as of today, December 28th, 2016, and no updates have been made that’s been released to the public. Missy’s murderer is still free.
I think this case deserves a lot more attention than it’s receiving. Whether the killer is a male or female, I cannot say for certain. That being said, in my eyes, this case should be solvable. I can’t fathom the notion of this simply being an act of sheer randomness.
To me, it was methodical, deliberate, and personal, with the killer knowing Missy on a level of friendship or simply acquaintances in one way or another. This unidentified person had an idea of Missy’s schedule and planned their attack accordingly. I’m hopeful this case will be solved soon.

Jennifer Kesse
youtube
From Wikipedia:
Jennifer Kesse was last seen on January 23, 2006, at approximately 6pm, leaving her place of employment, Westgate Resorts, in Ocoee, Florida. That evening she made several calls to family and friends; the last call around 10 p.m. was to her boyfriend. Typically, Jennifer would call or text her boyfriend every morning on her drive to work to talk and wish him a good day. On the morning of January 24, Jennifer never called or sent a text message. Any call to Jennifer’s phone went directly to voice-mail. When Jennifer failed to arrive at work that morning, her employer contacted her parents, who immediately made a two-hour drive from their home to her residence. Her parents noticed that her car was missing, but upon entering her condo, they saw nothing that looked out of the ordinary. Evidence at her residence, including a wet towel and clothes laid out, indicated that Jennifer was at home the morning of January 24 and had showered and dressed for work.
Alistair Wilson
From Reddit:
Alistair Wilson, he was shot on his door step in Nairn, Scotland in 2004. His wife answered the door to a small, stocky man who asked for her husband by name. Once Alistair got to the door the man handed him an envelope, which Alistair took inside for a brief moment and then came back out and was shot dead by the unidentifed man. Who took the envelope with him.
The silent twins
From Reddit:
June and Jennifer Gibbons were identical twins born to a Caribbean couple in 1963. The family moved to Haverfordwest, Wales, shortly after the children’s birth. From the time they learned to speak, June and Jennifer had a particular high-speed patois that made it difficult for people to understand them. Being the only black children at their school, they were frequently bullied by their peers. The bullying led to their special language becoming even more irregular, to the point where no one could understand what they said.
At 14 they were sent to separate boarding schools, to encourage them to thrive on their own. Both girls became catatonic and were quickly reunited. Following their reunion, they spent several years locked in their room, playing with dolls, putting on operas for one another, and writing.
They wrote several short stories that they self-published. The stories tend to revolve around criminality and sex. After the stories failed to garner any attention, they left the confines of their room and started living in the real world. They continued to speak with no one but each other. They started committing crimes such as arson, theft, and assaulting one another. A judge ruled that they need to be committed, and they were sent to Broadmoor Hospital, where they remained for 14 years.
In 1993 it was decided that the twins would be transferred to Caswell Clinic, a lower-security facility. When the twins arrived at Caswell, Jennifer was found to be unresponsive. She was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead. The cause of death was acute myocarditis or a sudden inflammation of the heart. No drugs or poisons were found in her system.
A few days after Jennifer’s death, June was reported to say, “I’m free at last, liberated, and at last Jennifer has given up her life for me.”
Bill & Dorothy Wacker
From Reddit:
Bill and Dorothy Wacker lived in a small town in Stark County, Ohio in the same house they have lived in for most of their 48 years of marriage. Despite being quiet, unassuming people, they’ve been subject to a campaign of harassment which began in 1984. On January 16, 1985, their home was ransacked. Though this had happened twice before, Bill informed the sheriff this time. In July of that year, Dorothy was home alone, recovering from heart surgery, when she heard a knock on the door. She didn’t recognize the visitor but allowed him in to use her phone, as he told her that his car broke down somewhere down the road where she couldn’t see it. After making the call and saying goodbye, she believed he had left. However, he was actually still in the house and managed to sneak up behind her and knock her out with a blow to the head. She woke up bound and gagged on the kitchen floor. She managed to crawl to an open window and alert her neighbors, who called emergency services. She was not seriously injured from the ordeal, but Bill returned home to find some possessions stolen: a .22 caliber revolver, an antique watch, a movie camera, and a radio scanner. In the dining room, the message “cheaper, but will do” was scrawled in crayon on the wall. About four months after the assault, Bill found the revolver on the front porch, wrapped in a plastic shopping bag. Over time, the other three objects were quietly returned as well. Notes left by harasser Notes left by the harasser The harasser began calling the house, sometimes threatening them with violence and sometimes simply breathing deeply. Changing their phone number several times failed to make the calls stop. The harassment began to escalate. Occasionally after dark, they would hear a series of banging on the side of their house, though they never saw or heard anything unusual when they’d check outside. Eventually, they put up a security light but later found a note on their front porch saying “your lightz are a laugh.” Periodically, notes began appearing on the front porch, threatening and mocking them. Police noted that the uneven, jagged style of the writing appeared to be due to someone using their non dominant hand to write, as if to conceal their handwriting style. No fingerprints have ever been found on the notes. On the night of October 27, 1993, another attack on Dorothy sent her to the hospital with skull lacerations. Police searched the neighborhood and questioned residences but failed to find any clues or witnesses.
Why would someone stalk and attack this old couple? What are your thoughts and theories?
Candace Hiltz
youtube
From Reddit:
Candace Hiltz was a seventeen year old single mother, a junior at Brigham Young University and a newly accepted student to be at Stanford Law School. She dreamed of becoming a Supreme Court Justice. She had a brilliant level of intelligence, a ferociously protective personality and a great affinity for the law. All of that was destroyed when she was brutally murdered. Her family sought answers, but ultimately discovered that the men charged with solving her murder may have in fact been involved in it.
On August 10th, 2006, a Deputy from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado arrived at the Hiltz family home. He questioned Dolores Hiltz in regard to the whereabouts of her son, James. Sometime during the questioning, Dolores’ daughter Candace became angry by his demeanor and told him to leave. The Deputy threatened to arrest Candace, who then threatened to expose him for taking bribes from local drug dealers.
Three days later, the Hiltz family dog went missing. It was later found tied to a tree and had been killed with a hatchet or small ax. Two days later, on August 15th, Dolores left the home to run some errands. She arrived home three hours later and found her granddaughter unsupervised and crying in her crib. There were pools of blood on the floor and drag marks. Dolores made the grisly discovery of Candace’s body. She had been shot multiple times, wrapped in a green comforter and shoved beneath a bed.
The investigation was shoddy from the beginning, with the lead investigator being the same Deputy who had the verbal altercation with Candace just days earlier. The crime scene wasn’t protected and sealed, evidence was left behind and the prime suspect was Candace’s brother, James. After he was apprehended, he was charged with for breaking into a home and stealing some items, but not the murder of his sister. Over the next ten years, no new leads were developed nor evidence discovered. The Hiltz family and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department engaged in a rather public exchange of contradictory statements.
Candace’s autopsy showed she had been shot by two to three different weapons and at least two assailants as several shots were projected into her front and back simultaneously. However, there were several errors and contradictions in the report. Then, out of nowhere, a man who purchased an abandoned storage unit discovered vital pieces of evidence related to the murder which had been stolen from evidence and kept there but the Deputy who ran the entire investigation, the very one who had that altercation with Candace.
Theories began to build up accusing the Sheriff’s department of a cover up and even of being complicit in the murder itself. The lead investigator retired amid a torrent of accusations, and just months after, was brought up on charges for his mishandling of evidence as well as tampering with official paperwork.
Was Candace Hiltz murdered in a random act of violence? Did the father of her daughter lash out and take her life? Did her brother James lose control and murder his own sister? Or did the lead investigator play a much more vital role in the very murder he was investigating?
Nacole Smith
Crimestoppers
From Reddit:
On June 7, 1995, 14 year old Nacole Smith left her home in Deerfield Apartments in Southwest Atlanta to walk to school with her sister and a friend when she forgot her book report. She left her friends and took a shortcut through the woods back to her home when she was attacked by a man who assaulted her and shot her. Security guards in the area found her at 9:20 AM but her killer was long gone.
Several years later on June 20, 2004, a 13 year old girl was preparing for Father’s Day in East Point, Georgia. She was lured by a man into the woods on Connally Drive where he then assaulted her. She was able to escape and get help. DNA linked this man to the 1995 murder of Nacole Smith. This crime occurred 3 miles away from the first.
The second victim provided investigators with a description of the man. The black man appeared to be in his late 20s to early 30s, was 5-feet-10 inches tall and weighed approximately 190 pounds. He had a medium complexion, a gap in his front teeth, and was wearing round, gold-framed glasses, according to police.
In the “On the Case” episode, the detectives working on the case stated that they believe the man is someone from the area. The detectives were able to obtain school records for the day of Nacole’s murder and they were able to narrow down the male students who were absent from high school that day. One man named Steven Boris (sp?) piqued their interest because he was arrested for statutory rape and false imprisonment. They were able to interview him and he willingly offered up his DNA. His DNA did not match.
It’s really scary that this man has never been caught in all these years. I assume he didn’t stop after the second crime unless her escaping spooked him. The detectives seem convinced that the man is someone in the area but what’s the likelihood he’s not from the area? He’s pretty distinctive looking (if the sketch is accurate) so I don’t see how he could go unnoticed in the area.
