1. Are you named after anyone?

As a certified transgender I picked out my own name, so yes. Named my self Tybalt after the Prince of Cats himself.

(I find this horribly embarrassing and only go by Ty to everyone except my closest friends. Feel free to tease me with this info lmao)

2. When was the last time you cried?

Like a week or two ago? Idk I'm bad with time. My brother took wayyy too many (much?) shrooms and we had an argument slash stand-off slash crisis intervention type situation. Very stressful.

3. Do you have kids?

No, and I never will. I can barely take care of myself, let alone having an extremely delicate and demanding Tamagotchi

4. Do you use a lot of sarcasm?

When I'm speaking then yeah, sometimes. I try not to use sarcasm over text though, since it's so much harder to pick up tone with that medium

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

The last time I played a sport was when I was 7, so t-ball it is then lmao

6. What's the first thing you notice when you meet someone?

I'm not a huge eye contact person ('tism) so usually their voice or manner of speaking.

That brown that eyes are which when the sun hits right they flash gold

-Oppo's conversation with Voh and Eeth about being old made me wonder how it must feel to live and work with species of varying lifespans. Obviously the long-lived ones must see people be born and die over and over, but what about from the other perspective? Oppo jokingly calls Eeth a youngling- how must it feel to be of equal rank to such long-lived beings as him, Yoda, Yarael, etc?

-OK I want a boolah. Eeth is a curmudgeon. They seem like adorable opossum ferret cats. I want snuggles.

Always willing to lay in bed and have a Harrison Porter marathon.

Gets really good at wrapping your joints in compression bandages, braces, or kinesio-tape.

Leviathan

The resident Akuzon addict will actually research all the best products for coping with pain. He'll sort through reviews and find whatever sounds the most helpful.

He finds out when he invites you to an anime/gaming marathon and you decline, saying you're in pain.

Boy doesn't run, but he's at your door in three seconds flat and out of breath, trying to make sure you're okay.

Video chats, live streams, and other technological ways to hang out become a common option for the two of you, but he also sets up an area in his room just for you, where you can lay down and access anything you'd need to feel better. Tens unit? Check. Pain meds? Check. Heating pad? Check. Braces? Check. Ice packs? Check. The list goes on, MC.

Knows all your comfort characters/series, and incorporates them into his comfort strategies. "'You're amazing! I don't know anyone who could handle what you do every day!' That's what the die-hard gamer from your favorite anime would say in a situation like this, right?!"

Satan

Makes a point to do things for you before you can even ask him to.

Will get things for you, bring them to you, put things you've left out back in your room or where you'll easily find them so you don't have to go looking.

Always offers to carry things for you.

Reads up on whatever he can that might help.

Obviously a good tutor when you need help with school.

Reads to you or sends you cat videos when you're having a bad day.

He's really good at reading people, so he's one of the first to notice when your mood starts to change due to the pain.

Makes the others aware whenever he realizes you're having a pain flare up.

The Devildom Museum of Art is suddenly offering virtual tours of all their new exhibits. Hmmm I wonder who could be responsible for that.

Asmodeus

The king of massages and back rubs.

Seriously, it makes Mammon jealous, so Asmo's always giving you back rubs in his room so Mammon can't butt in and demand that he takes his hands off you.

Always there to offer you a hot bath

Learns all about aromatherapy, and knows all the best scents for relaxation and pain relief.

Always buying lotions and massage oils to use on you, especially if he thinks they'll help.

Knows about all of the newest super food trends and encourages a healthy lifestyle and diet without being pushy.

Drink lots of water, MC!

Encourages you to take it easy, and to never feel guilty about taking care of yourself.

Seriously, Asmo will force you to take self care or mental health days if he thinks you need it. (Much to Lucifer's chagrin. Guess he's calling you in sick again.)

Beelzebub

Along with Belphie, he's very good at being able to read your mood and tell when you're starting to feel bad.

Likes giving you piggy-back rides and always offers to carry things for you.

Seriously, between Beel and Satan, you don't ever have to lift a finger if you don't want to.

Checks in with you often, but tries to make sure he's not hovering. He wants to help as often as he can, but doesn't want to take away any of your independence.

Gets really into physical therapy and learns all the best stretches and exercises to help you, but still knows that sometimes only junk food can make things better.

Takes it upon himself to bring you all your meals. He'll even pack you lunches, or go get your food for you in the cafeteria.

Knows all your favorite comfort foods.

Really just wants to hold you when you're not feeling well.

Probably the second best at massages after Asmo.

Belphegor

Prides himself on how well he knows you, and can tell when you're starting to feel run down almost before you can.

Takes it upon himself to learn your limits so he knows when you're pushing yourself and can distract you so you don't overdo it and wind up in pain later.

A little bossy, but his heart's in the right place, "Don't sit like that, MC, your back will hurt later"

Canonically already carries around stomach medicine for Beel, so he's definitely carrying pain meds around for you too.

Snuggle buddies for life.

As much as he enjoys/needs sleep, if you're having a pain flare up, he'll make sure to stay awake to stroke your hair and comfort you until you fall asleep first.

Tries to make jokes to make you feel better.

Doesn't seem like it, but he's a pretty good tutor too. He's used to cramming at the last minute.

Diavolo

Makes sure you have any accommodations that you may need. Online classes, extensions, extra sick days, you name it.

Checks in with you often, but won't say anything about your condition unless you tell him first. Will act like he doesn't know until then. But will sheepishly admit the truth if you find out and apologize.

Does anything he can to help magically as often as possible, but there are rules and limitations even for him.

All he really wants to do is take care of you and treat you to things. Anything at all that he can do to help, really.

Would pamper you within an inch of your life if he could.

Has the Little D's help you out with things all the time, but tells them to act like it's just coincidence that they're there and have time to help.

Lucifer and Barbatos both have to remind him that you need rest and he can't constantly be checking in on you. They roll their eyes whenever they see the Little D's approach you.

Barbatos

Was probably the one in charge of all the details of the exchange program, like transportation and background information, so he would have been the first to know.

Made Diavolo and Lucifer aware as part of his duties, but respects your privacy and wouldn't offer any details without permission.

Seriously admires your strength. It takes a lot to deal with pain every day.

Always has pain meds, braces, or other small helpful items on hand.

Does more for you than anyone besides Diavolo.

Diavolo and Lucifer both think it's sweet, and may tease him a little.

Always has magic ointments and creams on hand, and gives them to you often.

Obviously you may have done that privately, but I know how fandoms work and there’s a lot of mutual backscratching in drama’s like this so it seems impossible to truly validate any of this independently, which is a shame. Perhaps it was my mistake, but when you said you’d been inspired by HOGO’s fics I assumed she’d written a full fic. I can’t find an actual chaptered fan fic following videogame Arthur in modern times from HOGO, and nothing of him in that setting by himself. It all seems to be involving the gang too, which is quite a different dynamic to what occurs in your series and Wish Upon. I can see how it would be difficult to keep track of HOGO’s posts, even if you were trying too, because I can see dozens of drabbles, but nothing as a titled fic you could keep track of.  I can also see why those little scenes and dialogs may have inspired you, but as I said I can’t see any credit for the inspiration as you claimed? Besides which, it’s all kind of a moot point, because I think the bigger issue seems to be less about the initial inspiration and more about the timing and direct comparisons that can be drawn between your series and Wish Upon.  [...I also included the-awkward-outlaw’s series as an example since you mentioned previously that it’s a “very niche” topic when it’s more popular than one would think. ...] Well, yes, it is now, but it wasn’t to begin with. Ever since the onset of this drama, I’ve only seen a tiny handful of attempts at covering Arthur in the modern world in a fic, which still makes it niche when you compare to the volume of repeated themes in Red Dead fics over all.  It was a completely non existent plotline (at least on AO3/FFNET) in October ‘18 through Jan ‘19, and the game had been out for three months already when @miss-oscurita published Wish Upon. Yet no one had stepped up to bring us a story covering the concept of video game Arthur alive in 2018/9.  The reason Wish Upon hooked me personally, was because it was completely different to the numerous “damsel in distress”, “highborn babe”, “tough outlaw chick” that were a dime a dozen. There was also several “modern reader goes back in time” stories too, but Wish Upon was the first incarnation of Arthur coming out of the game into the modern world, in an actual fic at least. No doubt the idea could have been circulating, but no one had actually taken the time to put it into an actual story to my knowledge.   Does that mean Oscurita should hold a monopoly on the idea? Of course not, but it does explain why anything that followed Wish Upon’s publication, including TOA’s recent works, will be bound to draw comparisons simply because Wish Upon was first on the scene to cover the topic, and as a result is likely the most well known version of it.  I think the real issue here isn’t who all’s covered Arthur living in modern times, it’s more the issue over the dynamic where the protag is familiar with him as a character, because the dynamic of the pairing and the story itself changes so much when it’s explored from that angle. The dynamic is also affected when the fic focuses only on the two main characters (as with the gang being in the modern world in HOGO’s concepts) especially when they are both aware he’s fictional that it’s really something that can only be done once, maybe twice at a push. And yes you’d have to be certifiable to believe ideas won’t overlap, I mean it’s going to be a really hollow story if you don’t cover things like Arthur using a microwave, or using a toothbrush and showering for the first time, or learning to drive, discovering movies and what not. However, from what I seen over the course of this matter, it seems the issue with it all lies in how and when these elements are explored in the story. I may be wrong, but I don’t think there’s ever been an issue raised with any other parts of your series beyond that of As We Meet, has there?  And the issues raised over the original instalment and the rewritten piece seemed to be because it essentially follows the exact pattern of Wish Upon’s first few chapters, as we’ve already discussed.

Funny that you should mention discovering lingerie when @miss-oscurita’s most recent update included Arthur discovering modern underwear for the first time. I don’t recall in which of your stories he did that?

Just in the interest of being informed, I searched HOGO’s blog and found a chapter mentioning lingerie (which I assume is the one that inspired you?) but that in itself is a classic example of how the same idea can be done by two different people and still be complete different.

Which I’m sorry to say really only further highlights why the similarities in your opening chapters are such a cause for concern.

Regardless of the inspiration, if we list the similarities we have from the original piece, and the rewrite the issues are pretty clear. 

1) Young female gamer protag.

2) Modern day setting.

3) Both have adopted silver tabby cats.

4) Both have the backdrop of being alone on a stormy night.

5) Both involved with an event that brings Arthur out of the game.

6) Both aware of him as a fictional character before being a flesh and blood man.

4) Both immediately assume him to be an intruder.

5) Both think they are dreaming and pinch themselves.

6) Both use touch as a way to confirm he’s there in the flesh.

7) Both fics use the same name for animals.

8) Both fics almost immediately go on to explore Arthur showering, discovering cellphones, watching TV/movies, using a microwave, in almost the exact same order. 9) Both use some variation of the “my Arthur” device. 

Then in the rewrite you make changes to also include:

10) Both use his horse to confirm he’s ripped straight from the game.

11) Both use extremely similar types of names for the horses. 

12) Both work from home, for one reason or another.   Seeing it written out like that I can more understand why people have red flagged it, as it goes a bit beyond simply exploring the same concept as the likes of HOGO/TAO may be doing.  I mean it was bound to flare things up to include additional similar elements. What I don’t get is, knowing how toxic the fandom is, and that you’re under the microscope over this, why you didn’t take the rewrite as an opportunity to distance yourself from those similarities?  And if I’m brutally frank with you here, it does come across as a bit of “drama farming” when you know the consequences of similarities all too well. And what I still don’t get is how you’ve not managed to move away from these controversies?  I’m a lot of a loser, and have kept an eye on this drama since it began and I have to say when you interjected with the other drama around Wish Upon late last year, that came across to me as looking for drama, or at least being lead to it by someone else somewhere. I don’t know where you got the tip off for that, because the post wasn’t tagged and I only saw it due to following @miss-oscurita/you on my fandom account and the other writer in question was very new to the RDR fandom and likely didn’t have much of a following.  Add that to the poor wording on the announcements of your rewrites and you know, I’m sure it’s innocent on your part, but I can see why it doesn’t look good to others.  I mean I could easily believe you were trying to avoid making the stories similar and accidentally included the horse thing simply because your ideas and the ideas from Wish Upon merged, because unless you’re able to keep them firmly separate in your head it’s going to happen now you know of Wish Upon. If it was me, I’d be doing my best to not give anyone any more reason to throw shit at my house. Instead you’ve somehow managed to do the opposite. The rewrite was a missed opportunity to draw a line under all the past drama, and that’s disappointing to see as a reader and a writer too.  I do hope you manage to sort this all out, and that there’s no further public bashing over it all but now the seal is broken on it all it’ll be very hard to prevent the sharks smelling the tiniest drop of blood in the water.

WHEW! I finally finished it all, the complete sheet of the main cast for my personal project Feathers and Flowers! For those of you unfamiliar with the project, it’s a slice-of-life story that begins with Kaela finding the long-dormant spirit Mal and, upon freeing her, ends up gaining a supernatural roommate. From then on the stories focus on their day to day lives and the misadventures they have together alongside beefy nerd Sakura and her crabby roommate Evangeline.

Eh, still gotta work on the pitch but WHATEVER! I’m really happy with how these came out! <: So while I’m at it, lemme officially introduce these characters to ya! They are introduced in order, from left to right (in accordance to the lineup on the bottom of the photoset):

Name: Evangeline Bella Moore Age: 23 Birthday: January 1st Info: Intelligent, polite, hardworking and punctual, Evangeline is often the star pupil in her classes. Evangeline can be bossy and has very little tolerance for what she deems less than perfect, but more often than not she simply keeps to herself and rarely allows anyone to get any closer than surface-level acquaintances. As popular as she was in highschool, a common moniker for her was the "walking glacier". She is the apple of her ever watchful mother’s eye, but Evangeline secretly craves for that attention to drift away from her. Fun facts: Evangeline loves to read and adores playing music, particularly the guitar. She hasn’t played in years, however. She is currently a sophomore in college and Sakura's roommate, and is unsure of what to make of someone as genuine as she is.

Name: Mikaela Malie Rose Age: 25 Birthday: March 19th Info: Soft-spoken, kind, a tiny bit shy, and very unconfrontational, Mikaela recently moved away from the island she grew up on and has settled in a moderate historical town. She prefers to be called Kaela, and her kind demeanor can often lead her to be a pushover or naive. Despite befriending Sakura, Kaela doesn't really have friends in the town she currently lives in, and that coupled with her being so far away from home and the added stress of a lousy job and still trying to get used to the new environment has led to her feeling lonely and isolated. Regardless of all this, she is one of the warmest people you could hope to meet. Fun facts: Kaela loves outdoor activities including camping and surfing, and she dreams of opening her own flower shop one day. In fact, she moved from home in hopes of opening said shop, but she ended up being caught up with simply surviving and has stuck with her current job for so long because of it despite not liking it much. She often goes on morning runs along the trails, which led her to finding Mal in the first place

Name: Sakura Valentina Hikaru Guerrero Age: 21 Birthday: July 28th Info: Sakura can be easily likened to an excitable puppy: loud, outgoing, energetic, and very friendly. She’s every bit a people person and enjoys meeting new potential friends, but her excitability tends to lead her into being invasive and forget the concept of personal space. Despite that and her bulking size, she’s entirely harmless and genuine. Fun Facts: Sakura is a huge gamer and certified nerd, and she’s currently in college pursuing a degree in Game Design. She is Evangeline’s roommate, but thus far none of her attempts to make friends has panned out. Sakura is capable of speaking three separate languages fluently Name: Mal Age: ??? Birthday (given by Kaela): October 12th Info: Mal is a Spirit, a race of supernatural beings with a deep connection with the mortal realm. Aloof and confident, she is easily frustrated with things she doesn’t understand. Her demeanor could lead people to thinking she’s cold, but this is untrue and Mal isn’t unkind. She is patient, careful, and willing to learn anything new, and she has a deep curiosity that rivals that of a cat. Fun Facts: Mal hates wearing shirts due to her wings and often will walk around without one if she can help it. She was sealed away for an undetermined amount of time before she was freed by Kaela, and has since come to live with her as her unusual roommate. Mal herself doesn't know her birthday nor how old she is, only that she's lived for several hundred of years as a Spirit, maybe more. The given birthday isn't her actual birthday, but instead the anniversary date of when Kaela met her that one fateful fall day.
