A prompt: Hakoda meets his grandchild, the first steambaby
Sequel to She Lives In You
The Fire Nation had strange traditions and customs.
Some more strange than others.
Hakoda tried his best to adhere to them for his daughter and son-in-law's sake, but this one was far more aggravating than strange. His spiraling thoughts were interrupted by Suki's light laughter.
"You two are going to wear down a trough at this rate."
"We can't help it!" Sokka said as he continued to pace. "Katara said the seventh night right? I heard seventh night."
"I should have been there with her." Hakoda muttered while pacing in the opposite direction.
"And this is," Sokka counted on his fingers. "Four, six, seven! The seventh night!!!"
"What if something went wrong?"
"Guys!" Suki waved her hands. "Everything's fine. Katara and Zuko have the best healers at their disposal. Besides, if something was wrong, they would have told us by now."
"She right. Our lovely grandchild is in the best of hands." Iroh said while pouring more tea. "Though I do agree the wait is maddening."
Hakoda and Sokka shared a concerned look.
Suki laughed again then beckoned them to sit down.
"C'mon before you form a hole right through the floor."
Defeated, the father and son joined the others at the table. Hakoda massaged his aching head. He swore the past couple of days added several new gray strands of hair to his already graying head. Iroh placed a cup in front of him.
"Mint tea for the nerves."
Hakoda quietly thanked him and took a sip. It did help. Somewhat.
"Wow Dad, I've never seen you this nervous." Sokka said.
Hakoda grunted.
"Gran-Gran said he acted like this when you and Katara were born too." Suki said. "Actually did wear a trough through the snow."
Hakoda downed his tea, then placed his cup down firmer than he meant to.
"Don't you two dare make me wait this long. Understand?"
Iroh laughed as Sokka placed a hand on Suki's baby bump.
"Promise."
Just then the door swinged open. Hakoda and Sokka were first on their feet followed by Iroh, who was still quite nimble in his old age. But instead of the royal couple or a heralder, two out of breath figures ran into the room.
"We're here! We made it!" Aang panted.
"Aw man it's just you guys." Sokka said disappointedly.
"Good to see you too Snoozels." Toph shot back. "We would have been here on time but someone took forever shaving."
Aang sheepishly rubbed his freshly cleaned head. "I wanted to make a good first impression."
Hakoda resumed pacing as the pleasantries continued. He was glad to see Aang and Toph of course. But they were down to the bare minutes now.
The doors opened again. This time, a royal heralder entered. Everyone jumped up immediately.
"Esteemed family of Firelord Zuko and Royal Consort Master Katara, my I present to you," He glanced down at the scroll. "Princess-"
"Wait, I want to tell them." Katara said from behind as she and Zuko walked in decked in flowing white robes and cradling a small bundle.
The poor heralder was practically shoved aside as the family crowded around the royal couple.
"Let us see!"
"She's so tiny!"
"Give them some breathing room!"
Zuko eventually got them to settle down some by promising there was enough time for everyone to meet the new princess. Katara unwrapped her face and gently handed her to Hakoda. He couldn't take his eyes off the baby. Her soft brown skin and curious golden eyes warmed his heart.
"She's so precious..."
"Dad. " Katara said somewhat nervously. "Meet Kya."
The room fell into bittersweet silent as each person took in the gravity and importance of the news. The baby smiled and gurgled; eyes holding a sparkle Kya's used to. Long awaited tears trickled down Hakoda's face as he gazed at his granddaughter.
"Thank you."

Thanks for the prompt ❤️

i wonder how aang felt knowing not only that he was the last airbender, but that eventually the next airbender avatar would be his direct descendant, like a great-great grandchild or something

Hello! I wanted to ask, in The Avatar and the Fire Prince AU, how does reincarnation (The Avatar Cycle) works? In Canon, the Avatar is a human soul (Wan) who after death reincarnates on Earth in a new body to live a new life with the Spirit of Peace (Raava) bounded to it. But how about in your AU? I'm asking because I want to know whether or not we're going to have a scene with Aang having an existential crisis over the fact that in his previous life he was Zuko's great-grandfather.
Hello anon! :) Yes, I do my best to ensure that my AU is as canon compliant as possible when it comes to lore (including all known lore from Legend of Korra, the comics, the TTRPG, and the Chronicles of the Avatar novels), so the Avatar Cycle does indeed work the exact same.
I honestly haven't given a ton of thought to Aang and Zuko's reaction of who Roku was (though it will definitely still be revealed at some point just like in the show). While I think they would both maybe find it a little weird of a coincidence at first, I don't think it would cause either of them to freak out or anything lol.
We've definitely seen weird coincidences/connections like this before with other Avatars - for example, Kuruk and Hei-Ran were past lovers (before he met Ummi), and then he was reincarnated as Kyoshi, who fell in love with Hei-Ran's daughter Rangi. Then we have Korra, who was taught waterbending by someone who is basically a grandmother figure to her (Katara), and who was also technically "her" wife in her past life. She was also taught airbending by someone who is a father/uncle figure to her (Tenzin), who was also technically "her" son in her past life.
In general, there seems to be an understanding amongst everyone in the world of AtLA that each Avatar is very much their own distinct person, each with different lives, memories, and personalities. Sometimes more spiritual people - like Toph for example - can see that the Avatar has the same spirit/soul, but again, even Toph knows Korra is her own person and not just Aang with none of his memories lol.
Of course, if Aang had a problem like Yangchen did in which he was constantly having flashbacks to memories from his previous lives, then I'd say that yeah lol, he'd be much more likely to have an existential crisis. But as far as we know, Aang does not have any "memories" of living as Roku or any other previous Avatar - he only views previous Avatars' life events from an outside perspective. And even if he did have the ability to "remember" living as Roku, at least he wouldn't be able to "remember" actively being a grandfather to Zuko, since Zuko and even Ursa were born decades after Roku's death. That would definitely be awkward if that wasn't the case lol.
All of this has actually got me thinking about the theory where an Avatar could possibly reincarnate as their own child/grandchild/relative, especially with mixed-ethnicity/nation families becoming more common in the time of Korra. Like, say an Earth Avatar dies right as their child with someone of Fire Nation descent (or their grandchild, or sibling, or cousin, etc.) is born. As long as they have the right DNA, a relative of the Avatar could theoretically be the next Avatar in this scenario. The closest thing I could compare this to is like a Steven Universe situation (where he kind of both is and isn't his own mom - it's hard to explain if you haven't seen that show lmao).
Anywayyyy sorry for the long ass response anon lol. I just love talking about AtLA lore! :)

How are Azulaang with their grandkids?
azula would be THE grandma of all time i think. for her to realize that having a grandchild is the sweetest gift ever actually (azulon led her to believe otherwise) and that she's lived & loved for long enough to get to that point with aang is huge. those kids are getting treated like the second coming of agni. the first time their first grandbaby rolls over, azula brags about it for like three months and aang thinks it's the funniest cutest thing in the world. he adores them & spoils them like crazy, and together they just feel like home. they're definitely not the bake-stale-cookies kinda grandparents, but they're the 'let's go gliding and oh btw wanna learn how to bend lightning?' grandparents (which zuko's grandkids are just so jealous of)

No Sound But Silence: Derecho
If anyone had asked Katara what kept her going over the next few weeks of school, she would have told them she was running on pure spite. Her accident, and the subsequent revelation that it had been something a bit less than accidental had raged all over the school. It turned out that an attempted murder had superseded the scandal of her pregnancy, and rather than treating her like a pariah for being a teen statistic, her classmates and teachers were treating her a delicate glass sculpture of a victim. Neither was preferable to Katara because in either case, it was clear that few expected her to finish out the school year.
"Screw 'em!" Toph declared as she escorted her friend from literature to civics. She waved her white cane imperiously in front of her. "You're smarter than just about anyone in this school. Teachers included. And you're handling this whole teen pregnancy thing like a champ. You deserve to finish this on your own terms. I'm frikin proud of you!"
The support of her friends and family helped too, Katara reflected. Since Meng and Aang were still not speaking to her, she was down to three friends in the entire school where she had just the year before been voted most popular. But the support of Toph, Jin and Song was strong enough to counteract the whispers and stares from everyone else. After hearing that she had been deliberately pushed down the stairs and that the culprit hadn't been identified, they hadn't even needed to be asked to serve as Katara's bodyguards. Toph's term, not hers.
Toph's first two classes were next to Katara's, so she escorted her friend for the morning. Even blind, everyone knew that the feisty sophomore had a violent streak was not to be trifled with. Jin was in Katara's next class, and then they all had the same lunch period. The afternoon was a bit more complicated, as that was when Katara had her AP classes. Toph's classes were all on the opposite end of the school, so Jin and Song split escort duties by which teachers would care the least about them being late. Song took Katara to her fourth and sixth classes, since neither her art nor gym teachers cared about attendance in general, and since Jin usually skipped her fifth period class anyway, she took over getting Katara to and from science lab.
"Won't you get in trouble?" Katara asked her friend.
"Please," Jin scoffed. "I'm skipping shop. After that incident with the jigsaw, my teacher is thanking me for not showing up."
In between, they were all trying to figure out who had been responsible for pushing Katara down the stairs. Piando, despite his initial concern for Katara, hadn't been the most helpful in figuring out who had done this to her. He'd turned over the video to the police, but there was little they could do. So the girls had taken it upon themselves to solve the mystery over Katara's protests.
"It had to be Azula," Toph insisted. "Who else has the right mix of crazy and entitlement to push a pregnant woman down a flight of stairs. You said yourself that her dad is pissed that you're carrying his grandchild."
"Azula is too smart to do something so impulsive," Katara sighed, rubbing her temples. She willed the lunch bell to ring. Or for her friends to pick up a different topic.
"But she hasn't been caught," Toph pointed out. "She wouldn't do something like that with witnesses, but she waited specifically until there were no witnesses, and did it where she could easily slip away."
"Well, what about Mai?" Jin suggested. "She still thinks Zuko is her rightful property. I mean I had one date with the guy after they broke up, and she practically threatened my life. She absolutely would push you down the stairs, if she thought it would help her get Zuko back." Katara looked up at the clock and groaned. There was still another twenty minutes left in lunch, and there's no way her friends would let her slip away on their watch.
"You know..." Song piped in, hesitantly. "Meng was pretty upset. You don't think she could've...you know..." The table went silent and the four friends turned to the empty seats where Aang and Meng should have been. Katara wasn't sure where either of them had been spending their lunch periods, but they were nowhere to be seen.
"No way," Katara said mostly to herself. Then she turned back to her friends. "No way. I mean, Meng was upset with me, but she isn't capable of that." She expected a chorus of agreement, but was met with uncomfortable silence.
"I...I'm sure you're right," Jin said at last. "After all, she became a pacifist after Aang told her he was. She wouldn't do anything to make Aang think that she is capable of hurting someone. Not after seeing how upset he was after you told him you considered abortion." Still, the unsettled feeling didn't lift. Katara cleared her throat and picked at her meal.
"It's pointless to speculate," she told her friends for what felt like the hundredth time. "We have no way of knowing for sure, and all we're doing is making ourselves paranoid for no reason."
"I wouldn't call you being shoved headfirst down the stairs no reason," Toph snorted. "But maybe we should put a pin in this. At the rate we're going, we'll be adding Aang to the list of suspects next."
"It's not as big a stretch as you think," Jin said archly. "He did go full on Nice Guy on Katara. You know those tend to be the ones who snap and snap hard."
"Stop it," Song chided. "He's our friend."
"So is Meng," Jin pointed out.
-:-:-:-:-:-:-
At home, there was little reprieve from the hunt for her assailant. Hakoda, Zuko and Iroh weren't as blatant as her friends, but Katara knew from the hushed conversations that ended abruptly when she entered a room that they were no less interested in finding the culprit. It wasn't that Katara wasn't interested, but she knew that none of them had anymore idea than she had about who it could be, and it was causing her more frustration to have this guessing game played around her than it would have to just not know.
"Can't we get a copy of that security video?" Katara heard Zuko ask her father. "I know it's grainy, but Piando doesn't know all the social circles. Maybe one of our friends would recognize who it was." Katara sighed and walked into the kitchen. The conversation, of course, came to an abrupt end.
"I have twelve weeks of school left," she told her father and fiance. "Can we please just get me to the finish line with no more drama?"
"Of course!" both Zuko and Hakoda had solemnly promised.
For a while, that promise was kept, but it turned out, that no more drama was easier said than done. Katara, through a campaign of begging, pleading, and turning the conversation back to potential baby names and plans for a combination baby and bridal shower, was able to get her friends off the hunt for her assailant. At least during their lunch break. But a bit over a month later, Katara opened her locker and a plain white envelope fluttered down somewhere near her feet. Jin scooped it up helpfully and handed it to her.
"Weird," Katara said. "You get one?"
"Nope." Jin shook her head. The bell rang, and Katara tucked it into a textbook. She needed to get to her science lab. The envelope could wait.
Katara was home before she remembered. She and Zuko were studying together, and they had set up at the kitchen table while Hakoda prepared dinner. Zuko spotted the envelope poking out of her science text book and tugged at it.
"Letter from your secret admirer?" He joked.
"Maybe," Katara said, sticking her tongue out at him. Inside the envelope was a piece of pink construction paper, and for a moment, Katara thought it actually was a card or something. The note, though, was made of letters cut out from magazines and newspapers, like a ransom note from a movie. A thrill of horror went through Katara as she read the first line.
I know who pushed you down the stairs...

Fanfic Outline: the Sun Illuminates the Moon
Summery: In which a Prince and a Princess grow up dreaming of each other and this changes the world. If the changes are for the better or the worse, well, they could not tell you…but the alliance of the Fire Nation and Northern Water Tribe is enough to change the fate of their world.
Zuko and Yue grow up dreaming of each other. Both stop telling people about their dreams very young, before anyone thinks twice about it, and so it is a secret they share.
Zuko is five years old the first time he really thinks about what it means if Yue is real, if she is flesh and blood and the princess of the Northern Water Tribe. He sets his relentless determination on learning about how the Fire Nation interacts with the other countries, how they treat Benders of the other Nations and how they treat Fire Nation Benders of other Elements. Then he thinks about what he has learnt and what he should do and he’s six when he talks to Yue about it. Or Zuko hears about Waterbending Healers from Yue and immediately goes to ask his Cousin about why the Fire Nation doesn’t have Water-Healers. His Cousin decides he has a good point, escalates it to his Uncle, who realizes something is up about Zuko’s ‘Imaginary friend’ talks to the Fire Sages and then Fire Lord Azulon gets involved.
Zuko is betrothed to Yue. He’s engaged to her from a reasonably young age, once adults actually figure out about the connection. The Fire Nation and the Northern Water Tribe enter into negotiations and the future Marriage of Prince Zuko to Princess Yue is the representation of the Alliance between the two Countries.
Depending on exactly when the negotiations of betrothal alliance start Katara’s mother might never die, as the Waterbending raids stop.
The two children semi-regularly rotate between the Fire Nation and the Northern Water Tribe so Yue can learn about the Fire Nation while also staying connected to her people and Zuko retains his loyalty to the Fire Nation while also learning about the people he will one day rule over.
Lu Ten never dies, Iroh never turns against the Fire Nation, Azulon isn’t assassinated and Ozai never becomes Fire Lord.
Zuko is never Banished or Scarred and actually has something of a relationship with his grandfather.
Aang never wakes from the iceberg, the Avatar remains gone.
When Zuko comes of age, with Yue as his wife, he takes over rule of the Northern Water Tribe.
The Fire Nation wins the War and control of the World but the benders of the other elements are allowed to exist and are integrated into the Fire Nation as valued citizens.
Fifty Years Later the Avatar States drops and minutes after that Aang’s heart stops beating as the cold and lack of air get to him. Simultaneously to the Air Avatar’s heart stopping, on the other side of the world Zuko and Yue welcome a grandchild into the world.
I posted the Prologue a couple of years back but never got any further.

Let’s talk about Gyatso
So I’ve seen the post about Gyatso getting stuck in the ice berg with Aang and being all sassy towards Iroh and that being fun, and it’s true…
But!!! And I mean, maybe this has been suggested before and I just didn’t see it but… what if Gyatso did come to the future with Aang… and everyone just assumed Gyatso was the avatar and Aang was his grandchild.
Gyatso would totally lean into the persona and take all the stress off of Aang, especially after hearing what was going on with the world. I think he would be like “ah, this just be the will of the spirits” and while I like the idea of Gyatso going around with the Gaang…
I think Gyatso would be more effective as a red herring. He could allow himself to be taken by Zuko and Iroh, telling Aang to travel northward with Sokka and Katara while he throws the Fire Nation off course. And no one would be the wiser! Even Iroh, in all his wisdom, would probably see that something was off but not be able to tell for certain Gyatso isn’t the Avatar.
I wanna say this leads to mostly petty feuding between Zuko and Zhao, with Gyatso playing them against one another and sometimes getting free, only to lead them further away from the Gaang and getting “caught” again. I think there is a close call when it comes to visiting Avatar Roku on Crescent Island, but Gyasto just runs into the inner sanctum with Aang and there’s enough chaos in Roku’s anger that no one realizes when Gyatso and Aang part ways.
Then, as time goes on, Gyatso begins to see that Zuko isn’t bad, that Zhao is powermad, and Iroh is actually very in tune with the spirits, so he starts favoring being in Zuko’s company rather than Zhao’s. He still plays them against one another but usually he’ll give Zuko the upper hand.
I want there to start being a strange tension between Iroh and Gyatso, because sometimes Gyatso says things or does things that actually make Zuko laugh, even if that’s generally something that paints more of a target on his back because it was at Zhao’s expense. And then Gyatso learns about Zuko’s past (probably in the same way the rest of Zuko’s crew does) and Gyatso turns toward the west and is like “honey, you got a storm coming” and hundreds of miles away Ozai sneezes.
Eventually when Azula is sent after them, Gyatso does his best to help them escape even though he could have just high tailed it out of there without them slowing him down. Zhao, since the siege of the North would not have happened, would still be alive, though probably livid with anger and disgraced, would also be a constant dangerous presence following them, and I think, finally, that’s when Gyatso would spill the beans. He’s not the Avatar. Also, Aang isn’t actually his grandson but that’s neither here nor there.
Zuko would be devastated; not only has he been wasting his time, but he’s absolutely sure that he really has been abandoned by his father (the Gaang hasn’t had to out Aang yet, so the rumors of the Avatar generally followed Gyatso more). Zuko still runs off alone for a while but Iroh and Gyatso never really let him go too far out of reach. They eventually move to Ba Sing Se as well… and that’s as far as I’ve really thought on this but it’s something I think would actually make a Fun canon rewrite.
Gyatso is just a breath of fresh air (pun intended) and would add so much more chaos to Zuko’s story. I like to think there would be times Zuko would feel he could confide in Gyatso things he couldn’t say to Iroh, afraid it would diminish himself further in his uncle’s eyes, but there would eventually be a moment when Zuko told Iroh no one could replace him in Zuko’s regard. Iroh is, and has been, the only real family Zuko has had over the years, and he may not always show it but he’s always been grateful Iroh never abandoned him.
Idk Gyatso, Iroh and Zuko would just be fun to have interact.

happy ffwf! if you could change anything in canon (or write a canon divergent fic) what would it be and why?
Happy FFWF!!! Oh wow, this is a hard question. Mainly because there are kind of a lot of things I would change, particularly with LoK or the comics (not so much with AtLA itself).
I waffle often on whether or not I want Aang and Katara to have more kids. I think *they* would want to have more than 3 kids. But also... kids are exhausting and I thought I wanted more than 3 kids before I had my 3 kids and now I'm just tired all the time, hahaha, so opinions can change. Also, from what we hear from Katara, it seems like Bumi and Kya were a handful and a half so I can see them having Tenzin and being SO RELIEVED that there's finally "a calm one" and not wanting to push their luck again 😅 I have thought about writing canon-divergent fic for this on occasion.
The other thing I would change about canon though is surprisingly not that Bumi and Kya have complaints about their father (all kids are going to have complaints about their parents because NO parent is perfect, no matter how hard we try), but that Katara isn't at Jinora's tattoo ceremony. I know she's older and travel is probably less easy/comfortable/fun, and I know being on ATI would probably bring back many painful memories for her without Aang (not to mention that just-shaved-and-tattooed Jinora is the SPITTING IMAGE of her grandfather). But I also think that Katara and Jinora would have a close and special relationship (maybe that's bias bc I was the oldest grandchild of my Asian grandparents and I was very close with them), but we don't get to see any of that in canon so maybe not. I have also thought about writing fic about their relationship, but I don't know if it would necessarily be "canon-divergent" or not.
ALSO THAT THE BONDS BETWEEN KORRA AND THE PAST AVATARS ARE SEPARATED BEFORE WE GET ANY REAL, GOOD AANG INTERACTION. After seeing Roku mentor Aang throughout AtLA, it felt like a disservice to not have Aang in that same role for Korra, even though I understand why the writers did that.
ok that got long, hahahaha oops. Thanks so much for the ask, friend!

Hiya Stitch!!! I hope you're doing well!
How do you think elderly Taang would handle becoming grandparents? How would they react to their grandchild?
Have a Taangtastic day, pal!
Hi Ronin! Hope all is well, and thank you for the ask!
Good question, and rather appropriate, because it’s been a while since I’ve chatted about Taang headcanons and I miss my dunebabies LOL.
So since it’s been a while, my main dunebabies include Lin, Gyatso, Suyin, and Kenji. I don’t necessarily go into grand dunebaby details because I like the idea of leaving that up to one’s imagination, but I think it’s possible that all the dunebabies grow up to have families of their own.
Su seems like the first dunebaby to have kids, and she probably starts her family relatively young. I think at first, Aang would freak out a bit, only because Suyin is a baba’s girl and so he’s a little overprotective with her. Toph on the other hand would probably know that Su is pregnant before she even realizes it haha! Toph is pretty relaxed about it all, but she makes sure that Suyin is happy about this revelation and whatnot. Having a kid young is tough work, so Toph just checks in with her baby girl.
Overall I think Toph and Aang would be very happy and supportive of Suyin! She doesn’t necessarily live in Republic City anymore, so they don’t get to see her often when she’s preparing for the baby’s arrival. I can imagine that Toph and Aang visit Su once the baby is born, and that’s when it hits them that they’re grandparents.
Aang would definitely get emotional. He’d think about the passage of time, he’d think about when Suyin was first born and what that was like for both him and Toph, and he’d think about the future, how this baby will grow up and how they’ll interact with their aunts and uncles and future children that come along the way. He’d get swept up in all of it, especially when he holds the baby for the first time.
Toph would likely feel the same way. After all, she did marry the sentimental Twinkletoes, his personality rubs off on her just a bit LOL. But she keeps her feelings at bay, and no one really notices that she thinks and feels all the same things that Aang is feeling when they hold their first grandchild. I think her mind would also wander to the thought of the Air Nation being reborn through their family, and she smiles at the thought of Aang’s heritage and culture continuing on as the generations continue.
As far as how they interact with the baby as they get older? Well, Toph and Aang like to spoil their grandkids in things and experiences, mostly to bother the kid’s parents LOL. Toph and Aang love spoiling the kid and they love getting under Suyin’s skin. It’s all in good fun, of course, no boulder are thrown post-teasing/rule breaking session.
Okay! That’s all the ideas I have for now when it comes to Toph and Aang’s first grandkid. If you guys have any HC’s about dunebabies or grand dunebabies, I’d love to hear them! Feel free to stop by my asks, and I’ll get to them eventually :)
Thanks again for the ask, Ronin! Always nice to hear from you, bud :) Hope you have a great day!

Send me asks about ATLA, or anything, really! :D

⋆˚ ✧. ┊┊ ANONYMOUS;;   Anonymous asked: to change the subject, could you explain your lok muse? who is she?
Tumblr media
// you mean this fabulous woman right here? Have you not watched Legend.of.Korra???????? Fam you are missing outttt. (I also like lok a lot more than atla. shhhh don’t tell anyoone I said that.)
Tumblr media
this is Opal.Beifong. She is the middle child of To.ph’s grandchildren. Only daughter to Su.Yin and Baatar. And the only air.bender within the Bei.fong household that we know of. During book 2-3 of Lok an event called “Harmonic.Convergence” where the planets align and a bunch of spiritual badass stuff happens. It also grants random citizens- non-benders specifically- the ability to suddenly bend air. It’s the worlds way of fixing itself after the war. Opal is a crazy powerful bender for just being new to it. She’s shown to be able to create power blasts of air, enough to counteract her mother and Aunt Lin’s attacks at the same time. All the while jumping down from a higher up platform, and bracing herself with air. I love that part. There’s a lot more spoiler things I rather not share if you haven’t watched. But the new air.benders basically become peacekeepers and travel the world trying to maintain balance where they can. (Avatar.Korra was out of commission for a few years and they graciously stepped up to help with civil duties.) During book 4, Opal is shown to maintain a defense tornado that her and Jiinora (Aang’s oldest grandchild) started by herself while Jinora calls for help. She’s able to preform aerial acrobatics with ease and is quite fast using the new air.bender flight suit. She starts off as shy and often stutters over her words during book 3. But eventually finds her voice and her confidence once she’s granted permission to leave her home to join the other air.benders and learn their new lifestyle. In book 4, she’s more headstrong, tell it like it is kinda girl, and not afraid to raise her voice when concerning matters happen. Tbh, she doesn’t care for the Air.bender oath “I don't care about the oath! I have to save my family!” (Buttt she does care about the oath. shhh. It’s the Bei.fong anger talking) But she loves her family deeply and is eager to help the new air.nation in any way she can. I love her character, I had started to make her green outfit from book 3 with my late grandmother. But unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to finish it. And I have... no sewing abilities. So... it’s just hanging in my closet. We were almost done too. Kinda.... bittersweet. Opal is one of my comfort characters. She was there for me- in a sense- when I needed her most. She helped me come to terms with a lot of things in my life. It’s probably why I favour lok over at.la... because I have more of a emotional connection to this series than the last. I can’t tell you how many times Lok made me sob. like... gross sobbing. because something happened in the show. I can tell you how many times at.la has made me cry... none... I like at.la. It just doesn’t give me the same emotional connection as lok. But yeah... I hope that explains a bit for you. :)

Hi again!
Thank you for answering my question earlier. I forgot to write in another question in that ask. It's like this, Tashi runs away as a teenager, eventually finding their way to the Swamp and settling down with a Swampbender there and having three children, two airbenders and one waterbender. Tashi hasn't been in contact with their parents and siblings for years and then they're found with their partner and children one day by Aang.
How do you think he would react and act in that situation?
Hello!
I think that Aang would deeply regret not looking for his child and grandchildren sooner. I think he would be happy to find his child and grandchild but they would not easily forgive and forget. With time they would if they saw that Aang was truly sorry.
Thanks for the ask!

I finally started watching Legend of Korra. Just finished Book 1.
It was ok? Even though ATLA is one of my favorite shows of all time, I’ve never been super interested in watching LOK, mostly because the more modern, urban setting doesn’t appeal to me per say. But I needed to watch something while feeding my newborn, so here we go! Finally doing it.
Random thoughts:
I like Korra. We love a nice, impulsive hothead. They were smart to make her so different from Aang.
I’m meh on the rest of Team Avatar so far? I was warming to Mako before he got pulled into the love triangles (because who can resist a broody firebender). Bolin I wanted to like but I find him a bit annoying so far. Asami had a few nice moments but was also injured by the love triangle. This is rough because the ATLA characters were just so lovable, even very minor ones.
I am warming up to the older characters. Tenzin grew on me. He had me when he was getting all annoyed a probending refs. (Side note, but if Aang were around he would totally be giving Tenzin a hard time over bending too serious for probending - Aang in center the air scooter, he loved games, he would have probably liked bending games.) Lin is gruff but who doesn’t love gruff? She reminds me of early Murphy from Dresden Files but in a good way.
Given that ATLA had airships and tanks, the fact that there are cars and airplanes isn’t that weird. But it does feel a little weird.
A bender vs non-bender conflict could have been very interesting, but it wasn’t well done and the escalation made no sense. Might expand on this. I have lots of notes for how this could have been improved.
The pacing and the tension of the season wasn’t bad. It just… there were missed opportunities.
Amon’s mask was cool though. He wasn’t bad as a villain.
Tarrlok too. I guess I enjoyed the villains more than her heroes, hmm. His last scenes got to me.
I am so annoyed that season one is about learning airbending, but we spend way more time on pro-bending. It’s basically ignored until the last episode.
Same for the spiritual stuff, which… makes the last scenes interesting.
Like I said… I have notes.
Probending is kinda boring. I can think of way more interesting bending sports. I wanted to like it. But every time it was featured, I just thought about earth rumbles and Agni Kai’s and Katara encasing Azula in ice… we could have such a cooler bending sport.
Tenzin’s kids should be way older. He waited until later in life to have kids, which is a bold move for the last airbender. (But whatever, these are the people who said Roku is Zuko’s great grandfather which makes no sense mathematically.)
I don’t like Tenzin or adult Aang’s beards. Just not a fan.
Katara’s alive. Aang, Sokka, and Toph appeared in flashbacks. Zuko is the only one we didn’t see. But we did get his grandson! Who is around the age Tenzin’s kids should probably be.
I noticed in the avatar wiki that Jinora’s (and all the air kids) ethnicity is listed as Air Nomad and Water Tribe. But they have a mother! And she does not look very water tribe. So I submit to you my first head cannon: Pema has both earth kingdom and fire nation ethnicity. Meaning Aang’s grandchild have the blood of all four elements.

“   why are you trying to stop me ??   ”
Aang took Ila with him to see his old friend and introduce his grandchild to the Fire Lord. The Lord's daughter welcomed the Avatar upon his arrival. He was about to introduce her to Izumi when he realised the eight-year-old had left him. He had just told her not to leave his side. She was not unlike her father, who was also prone to getting into trouble as a child. Aang let out a deep sigh and apologised to Izumi, but he needed to find Ila before she did anything drastic.
Meanwhile, Ila sneaked into the palace garden to watch the pond full of beautiful fish. When the palace guards inquired as to what she was doing there, she fled and used her waterbending to lift herself onto the palace's second floor. She crouched down to catch her breath for a brief moment before being discovered by other guards. Again, she bolted, leaving a frozen floor behind to make it more difficult for the guards to catch her. She snickered at how these guards were struggling on the slippery surface. Their struggle did not last long, however; after all, they were elite firebenders. At the end of the hallway, she quickly shut the large door and temporarily sealed it with ice.
As she turned away from the sealed door, she noticed an older man approaching, draped in a fancy grab. She presumed he was a nobleman. Ila quickly approached the man to stop him in his tracks, to which he responded, "Why are you trying to stop me??" She cleared her throat and tried to maintain her cool. "Well, this hallway is sealed off because..." Before she could finish her sentence, one of the guards kicked open the door and smashed her to the ground, asking if Lord Zuko was all right. While being held down, the young girl tried to look up. "W-Wait, L-Lord Zuko?" In defeat, she laid her head back on the ground. Great. She should have listened to her grandfather. She then heard him exclaim her name. How Ila wishes she could melt right now.
