A message to anyone who interacts with roleplayers, particularly with Miguel roleplayers

I get it if you don't like Miguel, but that doesn't mean you can treat people who do like shit, even if you don't think you are. Sending an ask saying to a Miguel acc in character saying "you're horrible and you should die" (paraphrased, but essentially what I've ACTUALLY seen) is going to affect the very REAL person behind the blog. You may not think it, but you're also telling that person the same thing because they PLAY him (this applies to ANY character, but I've seen it a lot with Miguel). It also affects the roleplayers when you send an in character ask saying it's annoying that Miguel is occasionally non-verbal, seeing as real people do the same. I myself am selectively mute, and have had a lot of instances where I can't physically get words out, but people berate me for not talking. Saying it's annoying, telling someone off for using sounds and body language to communicate REPEATEDLY (as has happened with @itsmiguel2099 's Miguel) is SO harmful. Someone keeps harassing my friend and making people (not JUST Lupin) uncomfortable, and it needs to stop. These are real people, not the characters they play. Don't say things to us online that you wouldn't say in real life.

I'm struggling so hard to do drafts. Instead I keep jumping in asks and start new stuff. My mood and inspiration keep swinging between a million things. In one moment I'm all in My Hero Academia, then it jumps to Demon Slayer, One Piece and Re:Zero...o.O It'll probably be as flimsy now with my new blog. I'll never be constant when it comes to roleplaying.

So, I have to get this out of my system.

I used to roleplay a lot. I still try. But there is something that really takes my joy out of it.

See, I liked rping on Tumblr and forums because everyone could read and interact with the character. Magic anons were a huge thing. Ask memes meant that you were supposed to reply IN CHARACTER and see the rest of whoever was following you come and roast/rp the fuck out of it.

And now???

You go look for someone to rp with. You check their rules. They are SELECTIVE. HIGHLY SRLECTIVE. And you sigh. SELECTIVE ON WHAT YOU FUCKING TWAT, WE ARE BOTH DORKS PLAYING FICTIONAL CHARACTERS, THE ONLY RESTRICTION SHOULD BE AGE, NOT WHOEVER COMES ACROSS YOUR BLOG AND IS NOT ALREADY FOLLOWING YOU THAT IS NOT HOW IT WORKS YOU DIPSHIT. How do you even create a community if you are so restrictive.

You start again your search, you find someone who is willing to rp with you and... "OH BUT CAN WE RP VIA DISCORD OR VIA EMAIL?"... You sigh. NO WE CANNOT YOU FUCKING TWAT, ROLE-PLAYING DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO INTERACT NOT HIDE. JEEZ. IF YOU WERE NOT EXCLUSIVELY ON 1-2-1 KIND OF ROLEPLAY YOU WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH LESS DRAMA. Again, repeat after me: when you roleplay you engage with people, if you don't like it don't roleplay at all. If I ask you to roleplay, I mean that I will post a starter on fucking Tumblr and you are supposed to reblog your response so I can reblog again with another response. And people will heart the exchange and we will get curious anons expecting us to reply in character. That's how we engage.

Oh, but there are no more spaces for that. ARE YOU FUCKING SURE. Because last I saw it, as in yesterday, forum platforms are still very much alive. Tumblr is very much alive. Are you sure that you are not just brainwashed by Instagram, Twitter and so on.

And at the end of the day you never roleplay because how can you when you see this shit?

You don't know how to have fun anymore. I am here begging for a magic anon, or even a regular anon.

Also, I was role-playing with 2 people here, I couldn't reply to them for A SINGLE WEEK and they deactivated.

Is a roleplay the good old fashioned way too much to ask? If yes then don't bother even trying.

meeting wyll at the grove, as someone who the tieflings trust enough to train their children, says so much about him. it's so sad that he doesn't get explored in acts 2-3 as deeply as the other companions, when his problems are equally intense. the average player probably long rests once before coming across the grove, but even if not, in that time wyll has already proven to the tieflings that they can rely on the Blade of Frontiers.

this is the immediate first thing he chooses to do after being condemned to slow death via ceremorphosis. his priority list in the first conversations with tav is: 1) hunt down a dangerous devil, 2) help zevlor with the goblins, 3) once nothing threatens the tieflings he will gladly search for a tadpole cure. wyll is perpetually his own last priority, and i wonder if it has to do with the lore about souls.

if he believes mind flayers' souls have been destroyed, and fiend warlocks will all have their souls sent to the hells after death, then becoming a mind flayer isn't the worst possible way for him to die. he would never become a mindless monster to save his own soul, but he's not gripped by horror the way that some of the other origin characters are. lae'zel has been made revoltingly impure to her people, astarion is terrified of losing the scrap of bodily autonomy he just regained, gale is guilt-ridden over the orb detonation if he dies, shadowheart has to survive to prove herself to her cult leader, and karlach has also just regained bodily autonomy and is desparate to live.

this is just another quest for the Blade, whose persona guards wyll ravengard against the vice of self-concern when he ought to be concerned for those in need.

i think my favorite thing about the hermitcraft murder mystery party idea is that stress and iskall will be writing the roles for people. stress and iskall. those two. will have sat on a call or in dms wherever they have them, writing the murder mystery roles for their friends. iskall is literally already snickering about the idea of mumbo having a role and there isn't even actually a concrete plan yet. like we'd need to throw all fanon out the window for "what role the characters would play" and instead carefully pull back in the window "what would stress and iskall think is funny to force the other hermits to play" which is way funnier,

please don't mistake silence for hatred. please don't mistake unanswered plotting messages as indifference, or a lack of enthusiasm towards you. considering the ages of most roleplayers, many of us have bills to pay, families to take care of, medical conditions to treat, appointments to make, classes to take, homes to clean, and lives to live away from the computer that are far, far more important than writing on tumblr — life has a tendency to get in the way of hobbies and fun things like this. be patient with your fellow writers. if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. of course you can set your boundaries, keep your space comfortable, and softblock whoever you wish, but do so while recognizing it's probably not hatred or apathy that keeps them from leaping into your dms with message after message. they probably love this hobby just as much as you... but sometimes life gets in the way.

One of the standard ploys in the gaming industry whenever they get pushback about how depicting a particular fantasy species as biologically evil isn't a good look is to do a little storyline that's like "no, see, there were some good ones, but then the bad ones killed them all; they made themselves biologically evil through self-imposed eugenics policies, so that makes depicting them like that okay".

Popular game publishers have been doing this song and dance for thirty years. Hell, Wizards of the Coast in particular has done it at least half a dozen times in that span.
