Why I think Elain and Azriel deserve better that to end up together. 

And no this is not a Gwynriel who just likes to bitch about Elain, I actually like her and can't wait for her book.

So there are 2 major reasons for me thinking they're not meant to be. (And I also think Sarah J. Maas agrees, I have no evidence.... I also have no doubts she'll back me up)

The fist reason it simple Sarah J. Maas always pair ups people who are gonna help each other grow, who in some ways push each other outside of their comfort zone and help them grow as individuals. I believe Azriel and Elain more than help each other grow they will shackle each other to their own trauma en bad perception of themselves.

Elain I believe has such strength and brave af (told ya I wasn't here no bitch about Elain) but, all of her life she's been told she is just a pretty face, that here only value lays on being beautiful and docile, a good girl. So I do believe that Elain is a girly woman, she likes gardening and is sweet and caring, but I also think she has a whole other side that she was never allowed to show.

She's literally the oposite of Nesta, Nesta´s struggles to show her vulnerability so she'll show all of her hardens, her dominance, her strength and in her book she learns to show she also has a soft side.

Well Elain does the oposite, she shows people her soft side, her gentle side because that's her role in the family, the good girl. So the most logical path in her book to take is a journey to finally explore her strength, her hardens, her "dark side". But how can she do that if everyone around her (literally al of the Inner circle except maybe Amren) treats her like a child.

"We have to keep Eris away from Elain", "You cannot expose Elain to such darkness", "She es to sweet, to gentle", "She is like a dog, loyal to whoever giver her protection"

These are all thoughts from the inner circle, including Azriel. Because everyone (Including Azriel) se her as a good girl who must be protected, who will never understand the hardness because she is so soft. Elain need to find herself because she's still struggling with her trauma and no one fucking notices it!! Just because she is not getting drunk and fucking everyone like Nesta of because she is not snapping at everyone does not mean she isn't suffering. She has even mention how everyone was more concerned about how Elain´s trauma affected THEM.

So I believe she need to get out and explore and I think she's the one who'll need to go for the forth trove (but im not gonna give theories about that, I just know she's gonna go on an adventure during her book) and here's where (FINALLY) we start to talk about Az. He will not accept the fact that Elain is going away on and putting herself in any type of danger. We all know that and you cannot tell me otherwise, just look how he reacts on acsf when Amren suggested, SUGGESTED, that Elain should try to be the one finding the trove.

We wouldn't let her go on her adventure because he believes she's to pure, to gentle, to soft for such darkness. So in the journey Elain need to take shell have to do it without Azriel because he will never let her try and discover her own darkness. Like.... that's what will happen and you can't tell me other wise, he will alway try to protect Elain from darkness. Which is like.... a good thing I guess, but no one is all light, just like no one is all dark and Elain has been forced to be on the light far to long, she needs darkness.

Here come major reason number 2:

Gwyn and Az relationship (No not that type of relationship) I don't think they're in love of something like that no, that is not remotely the case.... but, Sarah J Maas is a great writer and everything that happens in the book has a why. She decided to write Az and Elain´s easy friendship that latter turned into sexual tension and she also decided to make Lucien Elain´s mate. She ALSO decided to make Az and Gwyn have certain tension between them. You cannot deny it it's right there and you have a whole ass chunk of the fandom (this bish right here included) shipping them, because the promise of what they could be together was hella amazing and cute afffff.

So if Sarah wanted to make the love triangle happen in a book she only needed to have Lucien because of the whole mate thing. But she decided to add Gwyn into the mix.... why? She had complete control over how the characters could interact between each other and she decided to make Az and Gwyn´s bond like that. Even before the the bonus chapter. "You're the new ribbon Az", "Az didn't say because Gwyn wanted lessons on how to use the knife", shit like that, and also the fact that whenever Az is in the same room with Gwyn he shows an emotion, he even jokes and laughs and that doesn't happen often for this dude.

And also lets mention that Az thinks he is too little for Elain (I mean nos in the physical part because we al know about the wingspam ;) wink wink ) but he didn't even want to show his hands to her because they had done a los of atrocity, he literally though that in the bonus chapter. How Elain was so pure and hi shouldn't touch her because of his scared hands. That is NOT a healthy way to think about someone you want to be with....

We algo see how his shadows do not bother him. The long debate (are the shadows good of bad?) mostly because they hide when Elain is present and they dance when Gwyn is present. Well Sarah J. Maas had an entire chapter of Az interacting with them to tell us if hi felt uncomfortable with them and she didn't. I will also admit he didn't say "Oh how I love my shadows they are *chef´s kiss*" but.... he didn't seem bothered by them, they're just an extension of him.

It represent the side of him he hides from Elaine because he thinks he's too dark for her and she's to pure for him.

FINALLY Concluding this:

Sooooo like for Az and Elain to be together there's a fucking lot of things that need to happen. First we need the Lucien thing solved, then we need the whole Gwyn thing solved (because there´s gonna be drama, the neckless for instance)

Can we have a minuto to just bitch about Az (because I only promise to not bitch about Elain) and say he was soooooo stupid during his bonus chapter.... I mean the neckless thing like *Massive eyeroll*. Our Batboy is real dumb some times.

So even if Az and Elain get though all of that we need to get through Elain´s trauma and good girl complex and Azriel trauma and los self-esteem because girl it that doesn't happen then that relationship will get real toxic real fast.

And so I want them both to be happy so I hope Az and Gwyn get together (for a lot of reasons that im not gonna name because this post is hella long already) And I hope Elain gets to explore her other side and live without fear to be herself and show all that beautiful light she has but also her darker side.

Bonus thing to add it has been mentioned that Elain is super beautiful except when she wears the night court black (those are the specific words, Night court black). This is mentioned multiple times in the last 3 books and like I said Sarah J. Maas is a great writer if she adds this detail multiple times is because of something. Elain is gonna leave the Night Court and go find herself and find friends who respect her and see her as something more than the good girl. And if Az goes with her he'll leave the night court and I don't think he'll do that for her. Even if he did I don't want the Batboys to be apart it would make me cry.

So this long ass speech is over, let's stop the hate and spam Sarah J. Maas so she'll finally tell us the freaking plot of the next book!!!

Me three years ago : reading acotar and not finding entertaining most of the protagonists. For some reason liking Nesta but too afraid to say bc I will get judged too harshly.

Okay so. I have a theory about Tamlin, after reading A Court of Silver Flames. I’m wondering if SJM may be leading up to an actual Beauty and the Beast storyline for him. I know he’s an asshole!!! But especially after his help during the war, I think there may be a redemption arc for him.

I wanna start with this- a lot of people compare A Court of Thorns and Roses to Beauty and the Beast. Personally, I have always disagreed with that. It fits in some regards, sure. There’s an enchantress who curses Tamlin into a form that’s not his own (i.e. the masks), he must find a maiden to fall in love with him anyway, personal growth and transformation, etc. BUT the book fits the fairytale East of the Sun, West of the Moon MUCH better. SJM/other fans have probs addressed this already lol I’m sorry if this is repetitive. But for anyone who doesn’t know this already - it’s a Norwegian fairytale where an enchanted polar bear whisks away the youngest daughter of a woodcutter to be his bride. He bribes her to come with him by offering to shower her very poor family with riches, and so they marry. At night, he turns into a man to sleep with her - but it’s pitch black and he tells her she must never look at his face (yes, creepy, I know). One night, she lights a candle and looks anyway, like any rational person, but anyway - this prompts the troll queen, who had cursed the prince to his bear form, to take him away to her castle, where he must now wed her daughter. The girl he originally married (I’m skipping a lot of details) says nope and goes to find him at the troll castle, which is east of the sun and west of the moon. There, she challenges the troll princess for his hand and wins. This is one of my favorite fairytales, so please find a version to read if you ever get the chance, but anyway- this is what A Court of Thorns and Roses is based on, much more so than Beauty and the Beast.

The other books also follow parallels. A Court of Mist and Fury screams of Hades and Persephone. A Court of War and Ruins alludes to Snow White, although that isn't the strongest parallel (if anyone has a better idea lmk). Vassa's story strongly brings Swan Lake to mind. SOOOOO.

Maybe Tamlin is still going to play the “Beast” in a Beauty and the Beast storyline. He’s broken and alone - his palace has fallen into disrepair. He spends most of his time in his “beast” form. He believes he is unworthy of love. And MAYBE Feyre is the “enchantress” who cursed him for his arrogance and cruelty. The rose imagery in the Spring Court certainly fits the theme. And... this is more far fetched but... maybe Gwyn is Beauty? I read a lot of fantastic theories drawing parallels comparing Elain to Aurora, which do make sense; I will say though, that the rose necklace Azriel gave her immediately made me think of Beauty and the Beast. And maybe the reason SJM had him regift the rose to Gwyn was not so much to establish a competing love interest, but to plant some foreshadowing. And let's talk about parallels!! I know this is more of an allusion to the Disney interpretation rather than the original fairytale, but Gwyn... literally lives in a library! She's smart and loves books, and she is LITERALLY in a book club. And let's not forget - Gwyn is a Valkyrie/Illyrian warrior. In the fairy tale, Beauty volunteers to go to the Beast to save her father - maybe Gwyn goes to the Spring Court on a mission of her own for the Night Court, or to save someone she loves.

I know this isn't the strongest theory? It's just an idea... a vague suspicion, if you will. And I don't ship the two. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with a character just... staying single and living their life. Character development doesn't always need to be in tandem with another character. And God knows, Gwyn has lived through enough trauma. She deserves better than Tamlin. And she absolutely does NOT need to be with anyone ever (also... she might not like males!!!) But who knows? We will see.
