I greatly identify with the flag so I wanted to remake it and give the stripes meaning! I also wanted to make alienpupgender and aliencatgender look like "related."

Okay. So. I wanna talk a little bit about why I’m no longer posting anything about that-topic-which-shan’t-be named.

See, the thing with fandoms is that sometimes, in fans’ efforts to be supportive and helpful and defensive of their fave... they make things worse.

Like, let’s take a ridiculous thing someone might say. Maybe JoeBloHater decides to call Colin an alien on Twitter or in my inbox or whatever. Now, we all know Colin’s not an alien, and that would even be a ridiculous thing for anyone to say about him or for anyone to even bother being offended by - but that’s why I chose it as the example here, because it’s ridiculous. You can imagine it’s replaced by any other insult against Colin/Hook/Gordo/Whoever, because it’ll work for any of them.

Okay, so one asshole goes and says Colin’s an alien. Nobody takes it seriously, life goes on, everybody forgets about it entirely.

OR...

A fan takes super offense. They get into a big, dramatic fight with JoeBloHater. Blocks are thrown. Battle lines are drawn. They are dying on this hill!!!

Other fans who see this fight or the defensive fan’s angry posts and adamant defenses get involved. They get their pitchforks. Devil’s advocate types start going, “Well, to be fair, we can’t prove he’s not an alien... How do we know anybody’s not an alien?” The names of the people who started this mess are now getting forgotten or purposely left off by vaguebloggers who “don’t want to get involved” but are simultaneously deliberately involving themselves.

People who didn’t even witness the initial comment or the fight itself start getting involved. It advances from “JoeBloHater said...” to “People are saying...” and now everyone feels obligated to chime in with their own defenses because this is clearly an orchestrated attack launched by The Hater Brigade in a concerted effort to undermine our fave. Everyone feels threatened by this insane claim being made. Why would anyone believe it? How could people be so monumentally dumb/mean/nonsensical?

It’s now becoming a fandom-wide thing. Memes are made. Jokes are born. Someone calls it “Aliengate” and everyone laughs. Trolls see an opportunity and start sending out entire batches of “colin is an alien” asks to all of his fans. Now “people” ARE saying it, just to get everyone’s goats. The imagined enemy has become real. Shit starts trending on Twitter.

People in other fandoms smell blood in the water and start coming ‘round to see what’s going on. Now everyone is aware of it. It’s a thing. Buzzfeed writes a facetious article. Sean makes a “WTF is wrong with you all?” post. Eventually, Colin himself tweets an alien emoji because he only half understands what’s going on and he’s a troll, himself. Everyone makes their own assumptions about what the cryptic tweet means.

Eventually, alien life forms come to Earth to collect Colin, because they mistakenly believe that one of their own has gotten lost here and needs to be rescued. The entire world sinks into a mass depression without that human ray of sunshine to light up our lives. The tears shed raise the ocean levels. Florida and California both fall off. Australia sinks entirely. Iceland turns to ice and floats away. Greenland actually turns green. Georgia goes purple and Kim Kardashian is announced the winner of the 2020 election. 2021 turns out even worse somehow.

And all because JoeBloHater got bored and called someone an alien.

So anyway, that’s why I’m never talking about anything ever again.

I just noticed that players have to encounter alienages in every game except for DA:I... it just rings as weird to me, especially because the Dalish are portrayed less sympathetically in that game? Idk. Do you have any thoughts on it?

Yeah, I would have really liked to see the Val Royeaux alienage, or the elven quarter of Halamshiral. Would have been nice especially given we have to hear Sera say things like “city elves have no culture,” which is 1000% false based on literally every single depiction of alienges we’ve seen.
