#Yesterday I shadowed a neurologist for the first time and basically we got done seeing a patient who’s also a heart surgeon #And I turned to the doctor and was like Ok what do we do #The thing is this patient has dementia and we don’t really have a cure for that yet so the study he’s enrolling in is largely observational #Still I expected her to follow up on him in much more frequent increments #Instead this woman goes “we’ll see him in 6-9 months but… not even sure if he’ll be here by then sooo” #Basically implying he might be dead in a year #AND I WAS LIKE. Blown away by how blase she was #And ever since then a fiendish sort of melancholy followed me everywhere I went . #Bc I haven’t stopped thinking about the heart surgeon #I don’t get how she can stop thinking about him #I don’t understand people who can stop thinking about something like that #I know neurologists like her have seen patients come and go many a time but I was disturbed #So I made a pact w myself never to lose my humanity. OH YEAH FOR REAL i think for all of their sanities kandreil should not have children (though i often reminisce about that fic where they did and neil was a deadbeat father for like a month) but they would be an UNIT when it comes to spoiling aaron's girls. even kevin someone who i believe is remarkably awkward with children would be swayed by them. he claims he's still as hard as ever and hasn't mellowed out at all in the years but andrew has more than once caught kevin ignoring them doing something they're not supposed to. he just lets children walk all over him

Zoronxie start life as a tadpole in a cleanwater* pool. They shed throughout their life, growing limbs and eventually becoming terrestrial, and even later, bipedal. They also go from hairless babies to having fur back to having their hair fall out when they’re old.

When does a zoronxie start to be aware of themself? Around the 12 week mark, sometime before they leave the water.

When can they start to talk? They start to mimic sounds at a year and a half. Zoronxie commons, a language made up of the surviving native languages, can be learned and spoken at around 3 years. Languages that rely less on mimicry, like Zornxian and galactic standardized, take longer to learn, but can generally be spoken before the 5 year mark. Sign languages made for the zoronxie body plan can also be learned once a child is steady enough on two feet.

When do they become an adult? Areas with Enithian influence have a child looked after by a caretaker until they’re bipedal, after which point they go into an apprenticeship. Areas with a more traditional skew, like the House, tend to let a person fend for themselves once they can steadily walk on their forehooves. Zoronxie growing up off-planet can oftentimes pass as an adult once their horns start growing in.

on the good news train today: I have finally finished the last chapter(!!!) of my Inklings challenge story, which marks the FIRST ever Inklings challenge story I've ever completed properly :'D coming in at 30,810 words (yikes) (it did get out of hand, I must admit), it is definitely not a short story, but it IS a piece that I think articulates a lot of what I've been thinking about lately re: love and death, and, considering everything, is probably something I needed to write. I am very happy!! It has been a wild ride, but a deeply clarifying one.
