Story: Dillion's story starts with a graffiti-riddled alleyway. Being abandoned by well-known junkies, a screaming baby was found by the police and then placed into foster care. It was not easy for the first decade of their life. A lot of blood, betrayals, and fistfights were not lost. Eight homes returning her that used to be intrigued. No one had really wanted a child that would barely talk, but also not know when to give up and back down. Until one day, the Carter Family had taken them in as a preteen and had not returned them. It's been history ever since. The adopted family was black and Dillion was as pale as could be, but the whispers did not deter them from growing even closer and loving each other. Dillion's quiet yet useful, bold, and confident demeanour has landed them two jobs: a mechanic and underground boxer by day, and recommended by their sisters in the fashion industry— a model by night. It is those same sisters that had shown them the "Shine" modelling competition and convinced them that it was good exposure. That Dillion was worth so much more than what they had. Dillion responded with a smirk, a shrug, and a "Why not?" They'll just let their body speak for itself.

Story: Elizabeth Gil is the daughter of a famous fashion designer and a famous model, so she's known everything about the industry since she was very little. She always wanted to be a model like her mom and she would watch her during photoshoots and fashion shows. When her parents noticed her interest in the industry to started preparing her for her debut in it. Her first runway gig was at 15 years old for her father's spring couture show. She kept working under him for the next 3 years, barely catching a break, until she turned 18 and immediately left home and her career with her father's brand. She lost contact with her parents and nothing's been heard from her since then. In other news, the latest high-end model Eli Sims, known for her outstanding white hair, is opening the Chanel show at New York fashion week this evening, we wish her the best of luck!

Story: Charline "Charlie" Morel was born as the first of two daughters to an overly strict wealthy family. The Morels were a family of musicians, and every child born to the family was expected to be a musician, and those in the direct line were expected to inherit the family instrument manufacturing business (or whatever it was, Charlie really couldn't care less). Unfortunately, Charlie did not inherit her family's ear for music - she knew she wanted to be a creative soul, but honestly, she wasn't very good at any of it. Her parents forced her to take singing lessons because it was the only thing musical she was any good at, but she always wanted to do something else. She didn't know what that was until she graduated from high school - she wanted to model. She had tried taking pictures once, but quickly she realized she preferred being in front of the camera instead. So she packed up her belongings and moved out - not terribly far away, but out of her parents' clutches. Charlie is a stubborn, self-assured girl who is determined to prove herself and make a name in something other than music. Once she gets an idea in her head, she is determined to see it through to its finish - or crash and burn trying. (Even if her inner perfectionist cries out in terror at the prospect.)

Tokyo Debunker is an otome game that was canceled and then started reproduction in 2020 because of "market changes" (most people think it is because they saw the success with obey me and twisted wonderland and decided to style their game based off them)

It was marketed as a horror game, but this company is known for lying in their ads, and they did in fact lie because there is only a very small amount of horror. Most of the game follows the same plot as twisted wonderland (isekaied to a magic college where there are 7 dorms and forced to move into an abandoned building but at least you made two new acquaintances, who are both very similar to ace and deuce, and you spend the rest of the game solving cases with one dorm at a time)

It is basically a twst clone. It does have some good writing and art, and they enlisted a lot of the voice actors working with twisted wonderland, but at the same time, all the background art in the game is very blatantly made with AI. Also, the gacha rates are a 1% chance to get an SSR character and you get the guaranteed SSR character after 500 pulls. There's no consistent way to grind for diamonds either so unless you pay, most people can only do like 5-10 ten pulls for their entire time playing the game :/

After the fall-out of a war between the Kanto and Kansai regions of Japan, citizens of Kansai now live in a dystopia. Criminals are bigger and badder than before, resulting in a specialized Execution Division rising to combat these ‘Akudama.’

An ordinary person accidentally wedges herself into the midst of a gang of the worst of the worst, and now she’s on the run with Kansai’s top Akudama to fulfill a cryptic mission. Her goal was to get back to her normal life, but one thing leads to another and she gets trapped, bound by her sense of morals to stick with her terrible team.

The team in question consists of a Brawler with a need to find the toughest opponent to fight, a Doctor who toys with lives, a Hacker who has run out of games to play, a Courier who always gets the job done, a Cutthroat with a kill count of 999 bodies, and a Hoodlum who was set for a prison sentence of 5 years. Joining them is the Black Cat, their mysterious recruiter, who promises great wealth to the Akudama.

#L8: Yurei Deco

Without any spoilers, Hack can easily be interpreted as nonbinary in some sort of way (whether they’re transmasc, transfem, or otherwise androgynous/neutral/other aligned) and their birth sex is never revealed, which is a plus for me. Furthermore, it’s literally what would happen if you made a fun, hard science fiction series in the style of a Ted Chiang novel but aimed at kids and written rather optimistically. It still has the hard sci-fi elements of critiquing AI and social capital systems and whatnot, but it also has an upbeat, cheerful tone of a children’s show, and you know what? I really like cheerful, intelligent kids shows! It’s something that I could not only watch on my own, but also watch with my conservative family without being seen as inappropriate, and it’s a genuinely cute and fun show!

I also like the colorful, free-flowing art style, thanks to Science SARU’s art, and the diverse characters, not only in characterization, but in race, body type, age, and gender. And the plot twists in this show really excited me too! This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I genuinely recommend people to watch this show as well! Sadly, it’s not dubbed, likely because of its relative unpopularity, but the Japanese voice cast is another plus, especially Berry’s seiyuu! Berry is genuinely her first voice role, and she KNOCKS it out of the part, especially at making Berry’s cheerfulness stand out. Another good point: the MUSIC. With diverse mixes of electropop, hyperpop, and bit-based sounds, it genuinely has such a unique soundtrack compared to a lot of 2020s era anime’s yakousei and anisong based soundtracks which, while I like some yakousei and anisong tracks, I’m just not fond of both genres.

Trigger Warnings: Unfortunately, as a Science Saru show, Yurei Deco is unfortunately very flashy on the eyes and thus very unsafe for epileptics, the photosensitive, and autistic people who have trouble with eyestrain, among others. There are also depictions of classism that, while shown as wrong and not good in the narrative, might trigger those who experienced class-based abuse.

#L1: Akudama Drive

Akudama Drive is an anime produced by a video game company, and it’s amazingly a single standalone piece, unlike their other projects. The three people who lead the creation of the Danganronpa series (character designer, story writer, and music composer) came together and produced something so different from their usual pattern and it pays off.

The character designs are so fun, the music vibes hard, and the story is better than anything seen in DR before since (no offense meant) the cast all get fleshed out as individuals beyond a single trope. Everyone is depicted as morally grey, and it’s such a fun experience to watch the madness break out and root for the bad guys or the bad guys.

Every scene is so pretty, and you can see the color theory SLAPPING THE SCREEN, it’s so pleasing to look at. The voice acting is also top tier! The character evolution can literally be heard in the voices 🛐 The anime is a fun show with cool stunts and epic battles, but it’s still got some interesting social commentary if you’re the type that loves dissecting that madness. There’s a little something for everyone!

-Intro-

Hotaru is currently enrolled in Reimei Academy, and works as a producer under Cosmic Productions. She's known to be thorough and strict in regards to the safety and well-being of the idols she works with. To many, she is an intimidating figure with a very matter-of-fact manner of speaking, muscular stature and sharp face. However, to those she works with, she is their slightly awkward, but well-meaning friend who frequently worries for everyone and tries to curb her excitement when speaking about martial arts, tokusatsu and magical girl anime. She prioritizes being honest and as straightforward as possible, to the point that when she has meetings with others for her producer work, some believe she must be hiding something from how transparent she comes off as.

She knew of Hiyori and Nagisa through her family, but of the Eden members, she originally properly met Jun first in her first year. She had decided to produce for Eve, before she and Ibara agreed to produce Eden together. She does also occasionally produce for other Cospro idols as well as a unit from Reimei of first and second years, but her first priority is Eden and its subunits. She's also trained to act as a bodyguard!

-Family Life-

Hotaru was born to the Nakatomi family, famous for their own luxury fashion label. One may think that a big family like that would give Hotaru a push in her career, but Hotaru never really fit into what her parents would see as a worthy member. They tended to raise her older sister, Chisato, to a higher pedestal, and Hotaru was consistently compared to not only her, but other higher-status daughters as well. Her whole life, she had been told and convinced that she was simply subpar at everything she did, such as her decorum and her appearance, especially since she reached a growth spurt early, liked gaining muscle and tended to like either childish or boyish things.

Whenever she was interested in something, her parents would either reject it, or have her try before deeming it a waste of her time and pull her out. Instead, she was expected to support Chisato once she inherited the company. As her parents seemed well-mannered and kind to everyone else, Hotaru internalized that she and she alone deserved to be considered unfit and the worst. Until her high school years, she and her sister were distant due to this, until they reconciled due to realizing each other's struggles and decided that they wanted to become closer. As well, Hotaru wanted to become more distant with her parents, and earn her own money, usually staying at the (headcanon) newly-instated girl’s dorms at Reimei and saving up for her own place after graduation.

-Why She Became A Producer-

At the end of junior high, when Hotaru found herself interested in idols, and fascinated with all the production work that went into her parents' label, she decided she wanted to be a producer herself. However, she was about to give up on it due to a recent incident when her parents convinced her that she should let them pull her out of her recent karate dojo because according to them, they were informed that "her instructor was disappointed with her progress and decided she was not taking it seriously". This crushed her, because she adored martial arts and put all she had into it. She thought she was improving well. It made her believe even her best work would never be good enough for anyone.

However, one day while shadowing one of their assistants after school, she picked up a voicemail to her parents from said instructor. The instructor told her that he was sad to see her go, and he applauded her dedication and found her to be a good student. He then finished it hoping that the new dojo she moved to would benefit her, and thanking her father for letting him know. She was confused, because she thought he was disappointed in her, but it seems that he thought she just wanted to leave? 

It dawned on her that her parents lied to her, making her believe she was bad and failed at something she cared about, because it would make her just listen to them and not rebel from what they asked of her. This gave her an epiphany- if she was legitimately good at something when she worked at it, and her parents were willing to deceive her to keep her willing to do what they wanted, then what else could she do? Thus, she decided- she will try this producer thing, and work hard so that she could be the one to support the idols that made her happy even when she couldn't find happiness in herself, and to prove that she can be good enough for what she loves. The minute she could, she enrolled at Reimei for her first year as a producer.

-Hotaru's First Year-

Hotaru's mannerisms had less of the bluntness she has during her later high school years, in an attempt to be more likeable.

As a producer, she was instructed to pay more attention to the special students and propose and produce more opportunities for them

However, especially since she liked being out in the field with the idols, she was treated in a weird in-between where she was simultaneously viewed as someone with power and above others, especially for non-special students, and another servant and tool to success by many special students.

This would throw off Hotaru, especially since she had less idol-related connections/experience compared to fashion and modeling back then, but she grit her teeth and accepted it as this is what she needs to do to prove to herself that her decision against her parents was not a mistake or a childish whim, even when she feels lonely 

However, this also gave her a high respect for Tatsumi, as he treated her with kindness and respect

This made her more enthusiastic about her projects for Tatsumi and those he wished to help, as she had to continually face scrutiny and ridicule otherwise to produce for non-special students, which did negatively affect her reputation among other special students.

She also found herself admiring Jun, as she saw him as immensely hardworking, and was looking for the perfect job for him, but found herself having a hard time, fearing that she would mess it up for him, especially since it’s impossible to get school support for a non-special student’s idol work

After Kaname and Tatsumi’s hospitalization, Hotaru found herself not only receiving a more negative reputation for her association with the revolution, but feeling intense guilt for not doing enough for them, and felt that she would just ruin any idol’s chances because she was inept and hated.

She eventually got approached by Hiyori, as he saw her interact with Jun in the past, and she eventually agreed to produce for them after all.

Hotaru tends to be very direct with her speech, as she believes that she should be clear with what exactly she means, so that if she's judged, it's for who she really is

Her main struggle is to reconcile her belief that everyone deserves to be loved and treated with respect with the fact that it applies to her too. She knows objectively that she cannot be the worst on planet Earth and that she deserves to love and be loved, but it's hard to really internalize and believe it

She really values and loves Eden and its members, and will consider them her family

She tends to refer to people as

[Last name] or [First name]-senpai (for example, she’s close with the SHIN circle, and calls Kuro ‘Kiryu-senpai’)

Has a resting bitch face, and tends to intimidate those who don’t know her too well

Hotaru highly respects Ibara, and wishes to be his equal, but also wishes that he'd be willing to accept her affections and to accept his more lighthearted side (has definitely had a hand in sending Eden to Bogie Time)

In the same vein, she gets flustered and shocked if anyone shows her affection or kindness

While she prides herself on her physical strength, as it's what made her realize she was worthwhile after all, she wants to continually make herself stronger as a person.

She still likes things like pretty clothes and fashion, and is looking to build self-esteem with her appearance (that her intensity can be pretty too)

Used to have long hair at her waist, but cut it before the Summer Live event in her second year to signify that she wants to change into a new her. Jun went with her to the salon to get the haircut

Has a difficult time talking about her parents to others, especially those familiar with the Nakatomis, because they have a good reputation and she believes no one would believe her. She Eventually told the Eden members around her second year

Learned English with the sole motivation being to watch Power Rangers without subtitles

Has a dove named Shimo (word for frost in japanese) that she keeps in her office, then her apartment later. It was originally was one of Wataru’s, but got attached to her one day on a visit to Yumenosaki

She regularly contacts Wataru on how to care best for her bird, takes this 100% seriously

When she caught on that Ibara was changing Exceed's concept to fit Jun, she was immediately on board, changing the set and stylists and acting as a beta listener for Ibara's lyrics :)

Loves buying idol merch, likes to get special edition stuff even for groups she does produce. She loves gifting them too, so she trades and gives some to Aira

AO3 - Of Kings and Bastards - 1

Hi everyone, I have been playing around with Midjourney lately to generate a lot of silly stuff, but also to create some images of the characters I write about in my fic "Of Kings and Bastards" on AO3. Midjourney still has some well known problems like color bleeding, following descriptions of clothes or how to get the age of a character right (if a girl is, let's say, said to be 14, MJ can oftentimes makes her look 10, but a girl of say 15 can quickly look 21 in MJ) and sometimes simply the number of fingers a character is supposed to have. It's also not easy to keep a consistent art style, which you will probably see in some of the images coming later. Still, it's amazing fun to play around with it and some of the results I do absolutely love. So, I'm going to post some of the images I created with MJ here. Maybe one or two of you like them nearly as much as I do. Have fun and feel free to let me know what you think :-)

Hi, I'm new here. I've been wanting to create a blog for a long time now. I wasn't sure how to start a blog, what exactly should I share. I meaan...I have a lot to share but I was thinking to my self..should I just be consistent and stick to one thing or would it be ok to do a little bit of everthing?? Well I guess we'll see since I'm kinda..winging it. lol

Today I'd like to share with you what I've been up to recently. I decided to give youtube a try. I love to game and thought why not..it might be fun. I recently finished a game and posted the short series. I still have a lot to learn about editing so it's not great to be honest but the good thing is I've learned a lot for my first time.Oh yes..from the many mistakes. It was not so fun starting over a lot, I'll tell you that ,yet I hope the next series is much better and maybe I'll even have some commentary.

The game I recently completed and posted on youtube is called 1bitHeart. It is created by, not a very well known, developer Miwashiba. This Japanese dev is from Fukuoka and has illustrated and created various cute and interesting RPG games. Miwashiba is known for creating their own pixel adventure games Alicemare, LiEat series,1bitHeart and the sequel 1BeatHeart.I just found out, while doing some research, that pool of creativity has not run dry just yet. In fact,there is a game in production right now by the name of The Faceless Double. You can find all of the games on steam; all but one,1BeatHeart.The game is available and you can find it here on this link.I have yet to give the game a try but so far the big difference I see between them is the more dull or muted colors and maybe less cuteness? It doesn't seem to be going on steam anytime soon so I'm a little hesitant to give it a go.

So far, all of the games that are available on steam are also published under the same publisher, PLAYISM. They publish a variety of genres. From story-focused games to Horror to strategy etc.

Now, I'll be honest, I didn't dive too much into the dev or the publisher so sorry I have no idea if there is any juicy gossip lol. I do though, want to tell you a little bit more about the game,1bitHeart. As far as I know, the game was released on steam back in 2017. The game is set in Japan, in the near future, where technology has progressed to the point that I'd say it's somewhat similar to now in our lives; it is used pretty much everyday, everywhere. It dominates the lives of everyone.

In the game, we play a young guy by the name of Nanashi, who spends most of his time indoors. He is very intelligent but a bit socially awkward. He meets a young girl by the name of Misane. While out making friends and solving mysteries, he learns of a frightening plot to take control of people via hacking. Together they set out to stop the people behind this evil plot.

I have yet to play the other games myself but I can tell you that this game, compared to the others, it's a 2D side scroller instead of using the top down perspective the others used.This allows for larger side view portraits of the game's many characters which lets the game to emphasize Miwashiba's incredible skill at designing cute characters and more detailed during dialogue. The game doesn't have turn based battles like LiEat, according to some other reviews, and also isn't solely based on exploration like Alicemare.The game has it's own systems. The hints being one, that helped me, which you get to chose to have them on or off in the very beginning. When you come across hackers and they attempt to hack the player, you defend yourself by directional inputs; which are basic. Still, the game is fun when you have to play detective and have the subsequent confrontations. You also progress the story by solving the various cases through the chapters during which you need to gather information and evidence.

Stardew Valley is a game I have played, but not finished but I can tell you that in the same way that you are able to give gifts to the characters that hang around the town in 1bitHeart you do the same. You'll trigger scenes once you become better friends with them but you are not able to romance any of the characters like in SV. This leads to one of the most impressive parts: there are actually about 48 characters in all that are spread across the town. Each with their own story, personality and style. The end goal, depending on what end you want, is of course, for these characters to become the main character's friend. You can see the amount of love and effort that was put into the game. In a review I read that the backgrounds during character's dialogue could use a little work. They probably could but I think it was done that way so the characters and their dialogue was the main focus.

Like I mentioned earlier, you need to give gifts to the characters in order to be friends but you need money or bits to buy gifts. You get bits by playing tetris-type minigames but it'll take A LOT of grinding=time to get enough bits to befriend everyone. Fortunately, the dev was aware of this flaw, as there is a secret in the game to acquire endless bits=endless gifts.

Honestly, I enjoyed the soundtrack. It's ok. One of my favorites its the opening theme.

The biggest gripe I have with the game is that I didn't see the option for borderless windowed or something to prevent the game from minimizing. The game would minimize each and every time I clicked out of the game. It was very frustrating and annoying. Honestly, it's one of the reasons why I'm hesitant to play them to record them.

I wonder if streaming would be easier in this case?? I don't want to totally give up.Anyway..If you made it this far, THANK YOU for taking the time to read my blog today. Let me know what your thoughts are...til next time!

More stuff about Bullworth’s rival school that I made aka Heartland Academy. (Specifically hierarchy and clique leaders)

Their clique hierarchy goes from jocks, preps, punks, bullies, and nerds.

There’s also side cliques. JROTC kids, gossip girls, the gays that you wanna stay FAR away from, the gays that are actually genuine, art kids, and band kids.

The jock’s leader is Sonny McDowell. He’s from California and is the school heartthrob. He’s very friendly towards everyone and is the last to fight. Many rumor that he is gay, when he’s actually your friendly neighborhood pansexual. He has a huge crush on the running back, Maverick. Even though Maverick supposedly hates his guts. He would probably be an ally to Jimmy throughout most of the gameplay. Sonny stands at 6’3 and has long blonde hair with sunburnt skin and green eyes. He’s lean with more build in his chest and shoulders. His HP is 450.

The second in command is Maverick Sanderson. Maverick is much more hostile than Sonny, and is always trying to get a rip at him despite Sonny’s very blatant love for Maverick. He’s a closeted bisexual who has no clue how to deal with his feelings for Sonny, and lashes out with jealousy rather than affection. He was the youngest of three and has always been made fun of and jabbed at. He stands at 4’10 with brunette hair and brown eyes. He has a very compact muscular build mulch like Jimmy. He’s also extremely fucking fast so he’s a bitch to fight. His HP is 500.

Harrison Kenshin is the leader of the preps. He doesn’t seem like much at first, but he is a mythic bitch. His weapon of choice is a golf club, and he does have a golf cart that he can run you over with. Harrison’s pride and joy is his success in golf. He enjoys old shows and music, and you can actually find him dancing in the dorms. His wit and charisma can often overshadow his spiteful and petty nature. Harrison is a huge minor inconvenience that’s infuriating to deal with. It’s small things you wouldn’t pay attention to. Marbles in halls, vending machines out of Beam Cola, and your gym clothes swapped with a hot pink Juicy couture tracksuit so you get made fun of the whole day. He’s 5’9 with black hair and dark brown eyes. He has a slim-athletic build. Harrison’s HP is 300.

Maxine ‘Max’ Gallen leads behind Harrison. Max is very cutthroat and hostile. Even with high respect she will actively taunt and attempt to attack Jimmy. Max is a very loud person, and is always ready to hack up the latest gossip. She boxes, and is on the same level as Bif. Max bears the title of the female champion. Miss girl can absolutely deck you if she wanted to. However, she is very terrified of male students, often her dialogue consists of her stressing over somebody stalking her. She’s very alert, and afraid of everyone. Max has been met with sexual harassment multiple times from the male student body, but Heartland kicks it under the rug. (As most schools do.) Harrison will actively protect her, and will be seen by her side. Rarely will you find Max by herself. She’s 5’6 with a muscular build. Her hair is shoulder length and light brown, usually styled with half of it up in a ponytail. Her eyes are a brown-hazel color, and she has a bunch of crackles on her cheeks. Her HP is 450.

Judge ‘Judd’ Jones leads the punks. He’s widely known for not complying with school rules and getting in trouble constantly. Despite his rep, if you get on good terms with him he’s actually cool. Fun fact he’s also a vegetarian, and is an animal rights activist. He’s very mature and level headed most of the time. He really just breaks rules to piss off the prefects and teachers, as he hates them. He’s always been seen as a bad influence, and decided to actually embrace it, to show adults what him being bad REALLY was. Judd has neon green hair shaved and styled into liberty spikes. He has many piercings such as a septum, snake bites, eyebrow, and multiple bars in his ear, along with gauges. Not to mention his neck and back tattoos. He’s 5’11 and has a pretty athletic build. His HP is 600.

Jonesy Kal is Judd’s second in command. He’s ridiculed amongst the student body for his former drug addiction. He lives in the slums, and has to bear with an abusive father who is an addict. He lost his brother in a shootout, and as a result spiraled into addiction that was fed by his father. However, after an overdose Jonesy put himself in rehab, and he has now been clean for 6 months. He’s your typical punk, and while he is more violent he really does care. He’s like your scary knucklehead older brother who beats up the kids who bully you. He’s also an arsonist, so yeah. Jonesy has fire engine red hair shaved into the fluffiest Mohawk the world has ever seen. He’s 6’3 and has a full sleeve tattooed on his right arm and piercings on his lips and in his ears. He’s very skinny due to recovery. His HP is 200.

Christian Beauregard is the main bully. He grew up pretty rough, he was in the foster care system because of his parents being too young to care for him. When he was 6 he was adopted by a very wealthy couple, all due to his blonde hair and blue eyes. However they have absolutely no business having a child. His adoptive parents cut him off from most of his childhood friends, and forced him to do things to make him successful. Such as piano, choir, and track. However Christian’s true passion is musical theatre. He enjoys the spotlight and singing, much like Trent. He can’t see very well, so he has to wear glasses, although his adoptive parents really pressure him to wear contacts. Christian is 5’10 and has a HP of 200.

Scotty Russo is behind Christian. He’s a baseball junkie, and a MASSIVE Yankees fan. His prized possession is a baseball signed by Babe Ruth. He could ramble for hours about baseball and it’s history, you can never get him to shut up. Scotty does not have a good relationship with his parents, since he started acting out and tormenting others his parents have no clue what to do. However, Scotty only loves and trusts one adult, his grandpa. His grandpa always understood Scotty, and was the one who gifted him his baseball. Scotty is very hotheaded and is always confrontational. He makes up for his height in attitude. He has straight natural red/ginger hair parted in the middle. His face and body are entirely covered in freckles and sunspots. His eyes are a dark grey and he stands at 5’4. His HP is 250.

Dennis Todd is in charge of the nerds. He isn’t your typical nerd, rather he’s just the valedictorian who’s got a serious case of senioritis and is so done with everyone’s bullshit. He’s got a very diplomatic personality, although he can be extremely impatient with others. He doesn’t like having to explain things, especially multiple times. He is the only member of his family to get to their senior year in highschool. His dad is a rancher with old school ways and his mother is a stay at home wife. He has a paint horse named Rootbeer. Dennis Todd is pretty lean standing at 5’8, and will not physically fight unless provoked. His HP is 180.

Cameron Brown is Dennis Todd’s best friend and is actually a class clown. He’s considered a nerd because of his very RARE moments of genius. He’s also just hella good at all of the hard classes and makes bank off selling HW and test answers. His pockets are packed and he is proud of it. Cameron usually makes jokes, but can sometimes cross the line. Occasionally he also has difficulty reading the room and picking up on social cues. He wears glasses and his hair is usually either in locks or cornrows, but he also likes to go natural or do the occasional fro. He’s very lanky and skinny, he’s 5’10 and is also less inclined to fight. His HP is 180.

There’s many more students who I haven’t fleshed out yet who aren’t clique leaders or second in commands. Right now I’m just doing skeletal work for the student body.

Anyone is allowed to make Heartland Academy ocs as long as you credit Heartland Academy to me, since it’s my work. I’d really love to see stuff about this.

Movie Review: TMNT Mutant Mayhem

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

Ah, Ninja Turtles. My childhood superheroes... oh who am I kidding, my eternal superheroes. :D This fabsome foursome debuted in 1987, the same year I was born, so I literally grew up watching the franchise. The series has gotten several reboots over the last three decades, and it's still going strong. The hype now is around the latest installment, Mutant Mayhem, created by Seth Rogen.

So, confession - when I first heard details about this movie and saw promo images, I was NOT on board. The art style is amateur at best, and yet another one of my beloved childhood redheaded characters has been black washed. First Ariel, now April? If we could stop doing that, that would be great... I'm totally okay with her being heavyset and more realistic in terms of body. We could all use THAT type of PC upgrade for beloved classic characters. But at least keep them the same race we've always known them to be.

But enough about that. It wasn't just the art style that made me stick my nose up in disgust at yet another remake of my ultimate childhood series. I'm literally a mega fan - my TMNT collection dates back 30+ years and is still growing, and it features some sort of item from every series thus far (with the exception of Rise... because even I can't get on board with that one). I'm talking figures, plushes, clothes, jewelry, hats, backpacks, bookmarks, magnets, buttons, piggy banks, etc. You name it, I've got it in TMNT form. So I'm very passionate about the show and can be quite critical of changes to it.

Which is why when I was starting to get past the art style, I was appalled to learn that not only would Shredder not be the main antagonist this time around, he wouldn't even be referenced at all.

Uh... yeah, we all know - we've known since 1984, when the comics came out - that Shredder is THE villain of the turtles. That's the one thing that's been consistent with every franchise (except The Next Mutation, but he at least made an appearance in that, albeit for a brief time). Instead, the bad guy is a hideous creature called Superfly. Kind of a double play on words considering he's literally a giant mutant fly with fancy/classy/fast cars and an entire mutant army and crime baddies at his disposal.

And Splinter? OMG, what did they DO to him? His face looks like someone splattered vegetables on the sidewalk. I see a squashed tomato/potato where his nose should be, and his "beard" is like the top of broccoli or a garlic clove. (shudder) And let's not get into the fact that, when the turtles were kids, he had a freaking Afro and a mustache. The turtles are meant to be 15 in this time, which would make the year roughly 2008 when they were kids, so the 70s look was way dated at that time.

Then we get more great news... not only are we now race-swapping characters; we're also gender-swapping them. Leatherhead and Wingnut, while minor characters throughout every iteration, are now girls instead of guys.

Leatherhead has always been an ally to the turtles, except in the original series, and considering the direction this movie took, I have to wonder if the writers thought it would be inappropriate to make them enemies because it would show teen guys beating up a girl. I mean, "beating up" may be a stretch, but you get what I mean. And Wingnut has always been super annoying to me, so I would have been okay had she not been in the movie at all. But I digress.

Okay, so, plot. Since Shredder isn't the main villain, the plot isn't the usual "stop Shredder from conquering Earth" thing. The movie starts with Baxter Stockman raising a giant mutant baby fly - in a crib and all - in a lab surrounded by test tubes of animals. Yeah, I didn't make that up. Animals of all different species and sizes are somehow shrunken down to conveniently fit inside a test tube.

Some heavy-duty suit guys break in and grab Stockman to take all his research at the behest of a mysterious woman named Cynthia Utrom. We know from prior series and lore that the Utroms are the alien race that created the ooze that caused the mutations of, well, all mutants. Utrom looks like a woman here, but she could be wearing a human suit like in the 2003 series. We don't know, and we don't find out.

Anyway, the baby fly escapes and takes out all the suits because, well, he's super strong and inhuman. And he has wings. He manages to grab all Stockman's test tubes and book it out of there, and then we fast forward to 15 years later where we meet our protagonists. Their current mission? To acquire necessities for the lair from a list given to them by Splinter. So they do this and they're like, "Hey, we've only been gone for a little bit. Let's go check out the outdoor movie playing in the park." So then we get to see them watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Yep, a live action movie in a CGI movie with art that's literally meant to resemble sketches like kids would draw.

So then they get back to the lair but Leo guiltily confesses that they all went to watch a movie in close proximity to humans. We're then introduced to the origin story of the turtles and Splinter, and while we're all familiar with it, it's slightly different this time. Splinter was a normal rat before, but he wasn't anyone's pet. He was a typical NYC rat, hated by humans (and raccoons... and dogs...) and one day he finds himself in the sewers and comes upon four baby turtles crawling around in green ooze. This ooze had come from a canister kicked into a sewer grate from Stockman's lab earlier. Splinter was shocked that the turtles took right to him, and they were the first and only things to not instantly hate him or want to kill him. So of course he touches the ooze and mutates, as do the turtles. He raises them as his sons, and honestly, I don't recall ever hearing him being called Splinter. All the turtles called him Dad. I don't think we ever knew his name... so if you didn't know of any other TMNT series before this, you'd have no idea what his name was.

Anyway, the turtles, as kids, wanted to go above ground one day, and Splinter thought he'd give it a try. Bad idea, because, of course, everyone freaked out and chased them away. So Splinter vowed to keep his sons safe and refused to let them leave the lair except to get supplies. We're also treated to a montage of cheesy old footage of actual martial arts movies/shows depicting how Splinter trained the turtles in ninjitsu as a means of self defense. He now loathes humans and wants nothing to do with them, and wants the same for his sons.

So after the confession of watching a movie, the turtles get grounded and are all talking in their room about what they'd do if they could be normal. Meanwhile, a crime spree has broken out with mega villain Superfly (yep, that's his name) stealing all kinds of high-tech scientific items... and if anyone sees his face, he kills them.

We're soon introduced to April, who, this time, is not an adult reporter. She's an aspiring reporter in high school, and she's collecting information on the Superfly case because, due to the crime spree, the school's prom has been cancelled and she thinks she can get it back if she solves the mystery of Superfly.

Well, the guys are throwing ninja starts at watermelons (because why not) on the rooftop one night, and one lands in April's helmet. As she's chewing out the shadows on the roof that she can't see, someone steals her scooter. And Leo decides this would be a great time to play hero and get the scooter back for the "beautiful human girl." Yeah, in the 2012 version, Donnie had a crush on April. This time around, apparently it's Leo.

The guys then partake in their first actual fight with bad guys - I'd love to say that I went YES in the theater when a car radio turns on and "Ninja Rap" from the original second movie is playing - and shortly thereafter, April sees them. But she doesn't freak out even when she realizes they're not wearing costumes. She's more interested in getting a story about them for the school newspaper. But of course, considering they aren't supposed to be seen or known about, that won't do. April then tells the guys that, had they not helped her beforehand by getting her scooter back, she probably would have had a much different and more negative reaction to seeing them. This gives the turtles an idea: Become heroes by finding Superfly and bringing him to justice, allow April to get it all on film to showcase them as heroes, and then she can write and submit her story.

April accepts the terms, and the turtles go to her high school with her and are all "ooohh, ahh, we want to go here." They find April's locker, which has been graffitied with things like "puke girl." We're then treated to the ever delightful scene of our female protagonist spewing what looks like green ooze all over a desk because of nerves while giving the morning announcements. Look, I know this is CGI and not real, but that was completely unnecessary. More on that later.

So to get to Superfly, the guys have to interrupt a transfer of goods, i.e. the final piece of some machine Superfly is building for his nefarious plot (which we don't know what it is yet). The guys are waiting in the truck and he shows up... with Bebop and Rocksteady. You remember them. The mutant warthog and rhino, respectively, from 1987 and 2012? Shredder's mutant allies? The ones Shredder created? Yeah, those two. Well, this time, since there is no Shredder, they were created in Stockman's lab. Remember all the animals in test tubes? Yeah, they're all grown now as well, raised by Superfly since he was the oldest. Stockman's plan was to create a family of mutants because he was never liked or understood by people. Superfly's plan is to pick up where his "father" left off... by turning all animals into mutants and killing all humans.

So of course, eventually the turtles manage to turn the tables and attempt to escape with the last piece of the machine Superfly needs to spread the mutagen. But of course, that falls apart and a bunch of Utrom's suits find and capture them. April races back to the lair to tell Splinter that his sons are in trouble... yeah, that's an awkward first meeting. Splinter shows up and takes out all the suits (Utrom has been taken away to safety), saves his sons, and they all start to head back home to come up with a plan to stop Superfly. It results in them basically appealing to all the other mutants, telling them that they don't have to listen to Superfly and that they have a choice. Surprise, surprise, they all turn against the big bad. Even Rocksteady and Bebop, and they're supposed to be villains... I realize their origin is different here, but come on.

Well, everyone takes out the giant mutagen machine... sort of. It lands in the river below, where there are dozens of species of sea life. Yep, you guessed it. Superfly merges with all the animals in the river. He gets a whale body, crab pinchers, some sort of tail, etc. And, for some reason, random horses on his legs. Wha... Oh, and he's now taller than the Empire State Building. Awesome.

Yeah, as if he wasn't ugly enough before LOL. Well, the suits in Utrom's lab had been working on an anti-mutagen, and April managed to swipe one of these canisters... somehow. It didn't really show how, she just did it. Times Square has a huge news report going on about mutants attacking, so April manages to get inside the Channel 6 (yep, the right station!) building to take over the report and explain that she knows the truth - that the only bad mutant is the giant fly/whale hybrid thing. And then she pukes again. Seriously, STOP THAT.

Splinter is trying to get to his sons, but Superfly manages to knock him back hard enough to break his leg. Humans approach, and he's terrified... but they're reaching for him to help him. So then we have humans and mutants working together to get the anti-mutagen to the turtles, who manage to throw it into Superfly's weak spot - the whale blow hole. Yep, that takes care of it. So then the turtles are revered as heroes, and the other mutants are all now living in the sewers with them... and the turtles wind up going to high school. They're got human clothes on, ditch their masks, etc. And all the kids welcome them and think they're super cool. April's locker has been re-graffitied with things like "cool girl" instead of "puke girl," and then the movie just... ends.

Then we get a post-credits scene, showing how the turtles are getting along in high school. Each one seems to have found his niche, and they're even all at the prom together. However, Utrom is watching them, and she says that capturing them will be difficult. So she asks her assistant to bring her... The Shredder! Then we see an outline of Shredder before the scene cuts away. So yeah, totally open for a sequel, as is the norm with movies these days. In fact, a sequel (and TV series) has actually already been confirmed! I mean, honestly, how could Seth Rogen, a self-admitted TMNT addict, create a TMNT movie without at least planning for Shredder to be in it?

So, all in all, it wasn't a bad movie. I appreciate the throwbacks to the original series, and I'm glad to see my favorite heroes getting so much recognition again.

However, there are definitely some things in this movie that weren't necessary. The top of that list is April's barfing scene. She was nervous doing the morning announcements at school and wound up throwing up as a result. Then later, during her news broadcast telling everyone that the only bad mutant is Superfly, she does it again... honestly, I get that we may need a reason for her to rather be behind the camera instead of in front of it, and she needs an obstacle to jump over to tell the people who tease her to suck it, but did it have to be that??? We're showing puke in kids' movies now? Please, just, don't... I don't care that it's a cartoon and looked like the ooze that mutated our beloved heroes. That doesn't mean I want to see it spewing out of someone's mouth. What is it with Seth Rogen and vomit movies? Is it like some unwritten rule that someone has to upchuck in everything he's in? UGH.

Also, this movie is rated PG, but... were all the nipple references necessary? Splinter is legit concerned that, if his sons are found by humans, they'll be put in a lab and milked...and they're like, "But we don't even have nipples!" Then the turtles say the same thing to April when she talks about writing a story about them, and she asks how that could be done for the same reason. Then later, in Utrom's lab, they are getting milked... but, I mean, how... way too much emphasis on that.

And did Splinter seriously need a love interest? With an unintelligible giant bug? Just... why? That's wrong on so many levels.

It was said from the start that this movie would focus mostly on the "teenager" aspect, and it absolutely did that. The guys weren't all serious about ninja training and mastering new techniques; they were more interested in what it would be like to be a normal kid, go to school, go to the prom, etc. And since it's 2023, and because it's Seth Rogen, we have to have some swearing and such, even in a cartoon. Mostly it's by Superfly (aka Ice Cube), so not surprising. But even the original 1990 live action movie had cursing LOL.

You know, I'm almost positive that the turtles never officially introduced themselves to April upon meeting her. She introduced herself, but I don't think they ever identified themselves. The closest we came was in they were in the school and Michelangelo was signing himself up for a talent show. We all know who they are, but a human meeting them for the first time more than likely wouldn't. Hmmm... I think some details got overlooked. Just like how I swear Splinter's name wasn't mentioned once in the entire hour and 49 minutes of the movie's runtime.

Anyway, as a hard-core TMNT fan, I did enjoy the movie. Definitely some things that I would have changed, and others that should have stayed true to the original, but all in all it wasn't bad. I think I can give it 8/10 and be satisfied. :)

Praise for Liyue’s Visual Design and Musical Style from a Chinese Fan

August 8, 2022. Monday.

Liyue is praiseworthy when it comes to its visual identity in its character designs and environment designs, its musical style, and the themes it explores.

I’ve realized I don’t really talk about Liyue characters much. It’s not because I dislike them but rather I just haven’t gotten to the Archon quest yet (as someone who doesn’t play very often) so I don’t know enough about them to talk about them.

But I’ll say that as a Chinese fan, I’m really glad Liyue’s environment design and soundtrack is the way it is, and the character designs too. It was really touching to step into the Liyue region for the first time and hear the soundtrack immediately shift to something that has lots of Chinese musical style (I think there’s a better term for this). The environment (trees, ruins, lanterns, etc) all communicate well that this area is based on Chinese culture.

Visually speaking, I’d say my favourite Liyue characters are Yun Jin, Zhongli, and Xingqiu. Maybe it’s the darker colours and elaborate details in their clothes. It’s really cool how lots of Liyue characters have dark hair, but it’s varying shades of brown, indigo, or navy, so it’s colourful and not all black/brown hair, but at the same time still retaining the Chinese physical feature of straight, dark hair. I think it’s through Liyue’s character designs that I got interested in Chinese cultural clothing in character designs (and naming characters in Chinese), where previously I’ve never quite seen confident, dramatic, and positive representation like this.

I don’t really watch many Chinese wuxia dramas (or costume dramas in general) because I don’t really relate much to themes of bringing honour to the family (dramas with a focus on clans) or spiritual self-discovery (dramas with a focus on the martial arts). Though I’m still not very sure what’s the plot in the Liyue Archon Quest to be honest, from the visual and musical aspects alone, it’s already a very nice representation of Chinese culture.

The few Chinese drama shows I watch are period costume dramas so there’s not a focus on modern Chinese culture, and even in real life the topic doesn’t really come up amongst my Chinese friends. I guess what I’m saying is I think it’s really nice that Liyue encompasses both traditional Chinese culture and more modern aspects of it. The Liyue Opera singer Yun Jin in particular demonstrates this idea well.

Yun Jin’s Chinese character demo has this line.

“璃月多传说，所以璃月戏里…最多的都是神仙戏。但如今是人的时代。我想多写写…属于人类的故事，把天下人心唱给大家听。”

Which translates to—

“Liyue has many legends, so Liyue Opera… mostly consists of operas about gods and the adepti. But now is the age of humanity. I want to… write more stories about the people, and sing out the stories of the people so everyone could hear them.”

I think she represents Liyue pretty well, from what I can gather about the region. I’m also really touched by the PV for the in-game Liyue Opera, “神女劈观”(officially known as “The Divine Damsel of Devastation”, though the better translation would be “The Legend of the Girl Who Split the Altar”), probably to the point of crying when Yun Jin started improvising at the end…

(If anyone’s curious, the matching line from the official English character demo is this: “Many of Liyue’s legends are centered around stories of gods and the adepti, so most operas focus on the supernatural too. But… in this age of humanity, I would rather like to tell stories about ordinary people.”)

The clash between traditional ideas and modern ideas explored through a region like Liyue… I think it’s really nice.

Even though I’ve yet to play through the Archon Quests, the Liyue region’s identity is very touching to me as a Chinese fan. All in all, Liyue is executed extremely well in terms of its character and environments, its music, and its themes.

Little Book Review: Dietland

Author: Sarai Walker.

Publication Date: 2015.

Genre: General fiction.

Premise: Plum Kettle, ghostwriter for a teen magazine in NYC, is just waiting to have weight-loss surgery so her "real life" can begin. In the meantime, she's meek and practically reclusive. Then a strange young woman points her to a group of unconventional women who encourage her to live her life a different way. At the same time, a shadowy organization, identified only as "Jennifer," starts violently striking back at sexism in society.

Thoughts: When this novel is focused on Plum's struggles as an unusually large woman in a fatphobic society and her journey to self-acceptance, it's on pretty solid ground. Plum does little for her current self; her days consist of working a job she dislikes, eating tasteless food, secluding herself in her apartment, and ordering clothes for her future "thin self." It's exciting to follow her as she comes to accept that she deserves nice clothes, good food, recognition from others, and dreams now, no matter what size she is. Unfortunately, the novel has grander ambitions that it can't fulfill. Its attempts to address sexism as a whole often come across as juvenile at best, and horribly offensive at worst.

Take, for example, Plum's shifting attitude towards the advice column she ghostwrites for. At the beginning of the story, she's offering empathetic, practical advice to a teen girl with an abusive home life. Towards the end, she answers another letter, from an eighteen-year-old woman who has graduated from college and is trying to decide between using her savings to go to Italy to study art or using them to pay for breast implants. Plum answers with a Sliding Doors-style reverie about what would happen in each scenario. If this young woman decides to study art in Italy, she'll have many interesting experiences and grow as a person. If she gets breast implants, she'll become a vapid party girl who eventually settles for a brief dental hygienist career, followed by an unfulfilling marriage to an old, unattractive, and eventually unfaithful dentist. I mean...I agree that it's sad and infuriating that so many women feel pressured to change their appearances to the point of seeking painful, even potentially fatal surgery! I'm just not sure that "getting breast implants will automatically turn you into a bimbo and drain all meaning from your life" is actually a feminist message. I've read eerily similar passages from the POVs of fictional "nice guys" who are upset that their high school crush went to the prom with the quarterback instead of them. Whatever, someday Bryan will be a super-rich computer scientist with several model girlfriends and Ashley will be a dumpy mom driving her four kids around in a minivan while Jake (balding) works at his dad's car dealership. Wait...is "Sk8r Boi" feminist?

And it gets worse! The organization known as "Jennifer" targets various men--rapists, porn moguls, etc.--but it also straight-up murders women. The most prominent victims are a porn actress (grotesquely portrayed as a CSA survivor who's had so much on-camera sex that she had to get her vagina replaced) and the girlfriend of a Joe Francis type who publicly refuses to comply with Jennifer's demands that she not sleep with him. You know how, during and shortly after wartime, people will sometimes publicly strip, beat, shave, and otherwise humiliate women who have slept with the enemy? You'll be glad to know that this is actually feminist...as is Jack the Ripper. Muslims are broadly singled out as backwards misogynists who speak a "nonsense language" (for views that fundamentalist Christians also hold, but you don't hear about them). I don't know if Walker is a TERF; there's a passage where Plum muses about her uterus, but a woman can have feelings about her uterus without it being a statement on all women or all uteri. However, the book is obviously SWERF-y, racist, and absolutely brutal to any woman who doesn't toe the party line, so I don't like those odds.

Hot Goodreads Take: "Hip-hop is singled out as the most misogynist genre," points out one reader. I knew I forgot something!

St. Amia Uniforms

Introduction + Inspirations:

Uniforms have always been my favorite part of fantasy schools and real life school. I've been wearing uniforms my whole life it's effected my fashion and heavily influenced my love for accessories. So I had a lot of fun designing them.

The uniforms themselves took a lot of brainstorming. Like most things in the story they changed constantly as I continued to iron things out not only around the characters, but also specifically in the worldbuilding.

Past versions

The only way to explain what you see here is 10-year old over ambition. When the original plan was to have How To be a Magical Girl a graphic novel my ten year old self had planned for each of my characters to have their own personalized uniform. This uniformed belonged to an early form of one of my characters, it's riddled with star motifs and her main colors pink and yellow. There are also gold star buttons and what I think are patches on her shoulders along with a bow at the back (idk if that's attached to her blazer or her skirt). At the time my only reference for actual school uniforms were the girl's at my older brother's school who wore the common western styled ones of blazers, button downs, and pleated skirts. (I'm thinking one day I should do a full showing of the others or maybe even a redraw of these cause there are a couple more). For obvious reasons these designs were impractical not only for me as an artist to consistently draw in a graphic novel, but even more impractical as the school itself developed into a more concrete idea rather than "Knock-off Winx school"

These iterations of the uniforms consisted of color blocked dresses and silk capes. I also thought about overalls and including pins with the capes. Although years later after watching spy x family you might notice the resemblance to the Eden's school uniforms. At the time of these designs Amia was halfway figured out. I knew I wanted St. Amia to still be an exclusive and strict kind of private school but uniform wise I wasn't completely sure where that put them. Aspects of these versions of the uniforms drew from Beauxbatons academy from the Harry potter series. Its also around the time when I started gearing the story towards Light academia themes. Now, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with these uniforms. I kept the palate and some structural ideas from this, but as I fleshed out the school again the uniforms needed to change too.

Final Uniforms (For the foreseeable future)

Everything on the drawing is labeled but I'm still going to describe them. In the final version the bell sleeves stay (they just look more pronounced because of how my art style has changed since). The beret stay and so do the bows also stay because I just love bows. There's a new addition of flared pants and a patterned lining along with a practical way to hike them up (see the small snaps on the sides). In a lot of character design videos the thing they press on are "distinct silhouettes". I'm hoping I've accomplished that.

Anyone who has ever been to a school where uniforms are customary, you'd know that no one wears the same uniform. Lots of dress codes allow thing like school sweaters or outside accessories. I personally enjoy wearing headbands and a sweater vest with mine. I like to have some elements of realism in my story and in my character designs (despite how cartoony my art style is). Girls have the option of skirts (of different lengths) or pants. Also since St. Amia campus is on a mountain (and famously called "The Winter Garden") students also have the choice of knitwear overtop their blouses. Each girl wears a different variation of the St. Amia uniform based on their personal style, lifestyle, and characters.

Alice(left) is a girl known for her bubbly disposition and is from Japan. She prefers to wear a bigger version of the standard sweater vest and a shorter skirt meant to be more reminiscent of her old uniform she would've worn before Amia.

Evie(middle) is a druid and botany student. She spends most of her non-core classes in the school's greenhouse right in the flowerbeds. In addition to the usual gardening aprons the school provides she also buttons up her flared pants and prefers the tighter version of the sweater vest.

Abia(right) comes from a more noble background and prefers a longer skirt and a cardigan since she tends to run hot internally but cold externally (lore thing). As an astrology student she also prefers the cardigans for their pockets so she can stash pencils in there for midday classes.
