on what account do your base your idea of yourself on? do you base it on your past actions, thoughts, ideas? how far back? do you account for how you have changed? do you base it on what you are doing in your day to day? I force myself to be brave. does that mean I am brave? am I simply feigning the personality of bravery? or is that what a brave person is to begin with? what is a brave person? say your current actions conflict past actions, but you feel your current actions (positive, negative, or neutral) don’t reflect you. what is “you” ? how are you defining you? for how long can you continue with your current actions before your past actions become irrelevant?
#example: you have to get up early everyday for your job/school/etc but you like to sleep in. you consider yourself a nocturnal person#but it’s hard for your body to keep up with staying up late so you begin waking up early consistently - even on the weekends. you naturally#do it and never sleep in anymore#would you still consider yourself a night owl#even though you mentally know that in the past you liked to sleep in - there is no new evidence to back up that you are in fact a night owl#your current actions say you like to wake up early#i feel like it always boils down to the question of: are you your actions or your thoughts#am i brave because I carry out brave actions? I am a cowardice at heart.. but none of my actions say that. but do they have to?#am I a brave cowardice then? shaking as I reach every goal#is it possibly to exist as both? should it be possible to only exist as one?#drives me nuts to think about this kinda stuff. it’s why I hate filling out that mbti test#am I answering these questions based off of past actions that I may or may not identify with anymore if I don’t have a recent example?#if I don’t go out how can I answer social questions? if I do go out because I didn’t leave my house for 2 years and am catching up on all#the social time I missed BUT it still feels out of character for me - how do I answer??#they ask for my actions I can give them my actions but the lack of asking my feelings and vice versa is what gets to me#I have to end this cause I can seriously go on forever

Why Slytherin Should Not Be Used To Classify Every Bad Person
A think Piece by Me
(Before I begin please don’t take this too seriously, it is merely a bit of light hearted fun on my part. It’s only a half-serious discussion;) If you aren’t interested in this post, no offense taken, but if you like to be sorted into Hogwarts houses please scroll to the end for info!)
Why Slytherin Should Not Be Used To Classify Every Bad Person- A Think Piece by Me
It’s not uncommon in the world of the Harry Potter fandom to see Slytherin hurled as an insult to various members of the community or celebrities when they are seen as bad people. While it’s true that many of the traits embodied by the Slytherin House can lend themselves to evil acts, it’s not quite as simple as that. Hagrid tells Harry “There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin.” However, this statement is disproven by the existence of Peter Pettigrew (Gryffindor), Gilderoy Lockhart (Ravenclaw), and Professor Quirell (Ravenclaw).
Many of you have heard this before. It’s been stated and restated in a million different ways. I know some of you not in the Slytherin House are rolling your eyes. And yes, this is not an important matter considering all that’s going on in the world. You’ll hear no arguments from me there. However, I enjoy writing and I need something to distract myself, and also I’m sick and tired of reading Slytherin as an insult to every bad person in the world.
That being said, if you don’t want to read because you find this silly, then scroll on. I get it. But if you do want a bit of a distraction in the form of a light hearted tumblr post, then please continue reading.
1. Villains of the Harry Potter Universe
Hagrid’s statement to Harry about Slytherin, wasn’t completely true. Hagrid would not have been wrong had he amended his statement and said “The majority of bad witches and wizards come from Slytherin.” That statement would have been 100% true- a majority of Harry Potter villains do come from Slytherin.
“So what’s the big deal then?” You ask. “Why can’t we just keep calling people we view as villains, Slytherin?”
Well for starters, not every villain in Harry Potter was a Slytherin. As I mentioned previously, Petter Pettigrew was a Gryffindor, and Lockhart and Quirrell were both Ravenclaws. Why does that matter? Because....
2. People are not one dimensional
Before we launch into that, let’s discuss sorting. Sorting is a way for assigning individuals with certain personality traits a “house” where they can share a community with other similar individuals. Gryffindors are said to value courage, bravery, and chivalry. Ravenclaws value intelligence, learning, and wit. Hufflepuff value hard work, patience, and loyalty. Slytherins value ambition, determination, and cunning.
“Yes, we know.” You say, “Get on with it.”
I bring up the House traits and sorting for a reason. Most criminal or villainous acts have motives. Motives, like ogres and onions, have layers. Let’s look at an example.
A man rides into battle, and because he is such a great warrior, he is able to slaughter a hundred of his enemies. Is this a villainous act?
Your answer would most likely depend on what side you’re on. To the man’s side, he is a hero and just in his action. To his enemies’ side he is a monster, a murderer. What house would we sort him into?
Maybe you’ll say that he’s a Gryffindor for his courage in battle. Perhaps you’ll consider if this was a strategic, intelligent move and you’ll classify him as a Ravenclaw. Maybe you’ll consider if this man rode into battle for his loyalty, or the ideals of justice that would make him a Hufflepuff. Or maybe you’ll consider him a Slytherin for his determination and cunning strategy to defeat his enemies.
Human beings have depth. All Gryffindors are not only brave, just as Slytherins are not only ambitious. All of these traits make up human personalities, and all people at some time or another have utilized these traits. Slytherins have been hardworking and loyal, Gryffindors have been smart, Hufflepuffs have been cunning, and Ravenclaws have been brave. People are not just one thing.
“Yes we know this too. Why is that relevant?”
Because....
3. You must consider the motives
Bad or villainous acts are definitely perspective based, but if we’re going to look at someone we’ve determined to be a villain, we must examine their motives. Arguably, yes, on the surface Slytherin House traits seem to lend themselves towards more villainous acts if you focus on the negative connotations of their valued traits. Someone who is power hungry would use cunning and ambition to climb to the top, but they would also be hard working, intelligent, and brave.
So yes, these are personality traits, but they aren’t motives. Why am I hammering this in? Let’s take a look at our non-Slytherin villains.
Peter Pettigrew is a Gryffindor coward. He does what he does because of this cowardice. But none of the houses value cowardice, and his own house is the antithesis of cowardice. So if Pettigrew is a coward, why is he in Gryffindor? You could argue that it’s because he values bravery the most. Perhaps because he never had it, he covets it more than anything, and places bravery on a pedestal. The truth of it is, it doesn’t matter what his house is. Pettigrew is a coward, which leads him to team up with the bad guy and commit crimes out of fear. He’s a villain not because of his house, but because of his crime. Because of his motives.
Lockhart is a Ravenclaw who takes other people’s knowledge and achievements for himself so he can have fame and fortune. He isn’t capable of doing these things himself mentally or physically, so he steals the work of others. He utilized his intelligence to get away with this crime, cunning to figure out plans, hard work to maintain his lies, and one could argue courage to do something so risky. Villain? Yes. Slytherin? No.
Quirrell is also a Ravenclaw. He hides himself behind an unthreatening facade to do his master’s evil bidding. It can be assumed that he shares Voldemort’s ideals and wants the power promised to him from his service. Again, you would find that he would have to utilize a multitude of various house traits to pull this off, but he’s still not a Slytherin.
See what I mean? Traits are the how. They are the reason something gets done. They are utilized to carry out an action. But motives are the reason why. Motives defy Hogwarts House classification, not only because they are so layered, but because......
4. Traits have no moral alignment
Ambition is not inherently good or bad. Neither is cunning. Determination is hardly ever classified as something negative. Ambition is an environmentalist saving the environment, a black politician climbing the ranks to bring change to their community, or women banding together to demand change. Cunning is figuring out the best way to distribute funds various organizations, deciding on the best strategy to implement free birth control, or solving the water crisis through vigorous strategy. Determination is fighting constantly for these changes, it’s grit, never giving up on what you know is right.
Any personality trait or ideal can become negative and can be abused. Intelligence can be used to keep a group of people in poverty. Bravery can be someone running into a crowd with a gun. Justice can be a murder. Villains do not think that their actions are wrong. They idealize them, thinking that killing someone of a different race is justice just because they could have harmed that person. Racists often believe they are just for hating people of a different race.
Traits are not good or bad, nor are they defining of a person. Our above mentioned villains often utilized traits that were not valued by their house to commit their acts, but that didn’t make them belong any less to the house they were sorted into.
Again.....
5. Defining an act as good or bad is more complicated than that
Evil is a hard thing to define in the world. There is so much that goes into determining if something is evil or if someone is bad. Motives, societal moral belief, and personal ideals are just a few concepts that shape what we determine to be good or bad. That’s not to say people don’t have set things they believe are evil. I have those too. However, it would be impossible to settle on a universal definition of an evil act that everyone agreed with.
As I stated earlier, perspective is a huge factor in determining the moral impact of an action. Our enemies think our acts evil, while our friends agree that our acts are good. These acts themselves defy Hogwarts House classification. It is the person’s personality and beliefs that should classify them in a house. Not just whether they are a villain or hero in our eyes.
So why is this whole argument relevant?
Because it’s annoying as a Slytherin to see every bad person sorted by people into your house. Yes it’s a stupid thing to be annoyed with, but for a lot of Harry Potter fans, a huge source of enjoyment comes from the community of your house. Being able to identify and bond with others over your shared house creates a sense of community. It also helps many people understand themselves, just as personality quizzes do. Sure it may be meaningless in the “real world,” but it helps you learn about yourself and have fun.
Yes there is no Hogwarts, and the houses don’t mean anything in real life. But they do in our community and fandom. It’s time for us to intellectually grow and start to discuss people and villains in terms of overarching personality. You won’t hear me arguing that a majority of them may come from Slytherin. However, it’s time for us to take back our house, and it’s time for Slytherins to be given respect.
We are not all evil, we are not all bad. Our valued traits can be used for as much good as any other house traits. Evil people and evil acts do not just have to be Slytherins by default. It’s 2020 and Slytherin is no longer a bad word. We are ambitious as hell, ferocious, and badass. But we are not villains.

My dude I am so glad you asked but honestly I don’t think you’ll be glad because you’re about to get some fucking essays. I literally had to get my laptop so I could properly write all of this up???? 
HCs:
Growing up he was ridiculously short and the Gerudos would make fun of him for it. They were very harsh on him, regardless of him being next in line as king and would say he’d always be too weak to do anything; that someone that small could never be destined for greatness and that he would let them all down. He took this all to heart but not the way you might think. He internalized it and made excuses for them, saying his people were ruthless by nature and they were just trying to get him to “man up”, that they were just scared of change and that he had to do everything possible to not let them down. 
Ignoring the fact that he’s 8 feet tall and unlikely to find someone taller than him, he only seeks out smaller people to surround himself with. The fact that Zant reached his shoulders made him very uncomfortable because he hasn’t been around anyone even near his height in a long time. 
 Having grown up in a desert where water is relatively scarce or at the very least extremely precious, he absolutely detests salty food. This leads to his food being pretty bland.
The weird thing is that as much as he hates it salty things, they’re all he eats. Its as if he’s trying to tell himself that he’s now in a position of power and can afford to eat them without having to worry about water 
He remembers it all. He remembers every life, every defeat, every single minute. 
He isn’t a villain, he’s an antagonist. He’s the antithesis to Link. Where Link is courage, the one who fights for what’s right, Ganon is cowardice, the one who rules over others instead of himself. Ganondorf is a puppet and he’s doomed to always be one. Ganondorf isn’t evil, he’s not bad for the sake of being bad because that would imply he ever had a choice. He knows that everything he does isn’t out of desire, it’s out of obligation. He was raised in a kill or be killed world, ruthlessness drilled into him, expectations of greatness on his shoulders. But even before that he was cursed. Cursed to carry an eternal hatred, a hate that was never his to begin with. 
His mothers were the worst part, not the Gerudos for even after being forced to be a King of Thieves, he realized they were in need of help and that they deserved a better life. He was an ambassador for them, for what they stood for and for what should have been. But behind that he was still on strings, his mothers strings and those of his curse; being told he had to manipulate, he had to kill, had to rule. It was never his choice and even after gaining Power, after being worthy enough to wield part of the triforce, it was never him. It was Demise, it’s always been Demise and he always takes Ganon down with him.
He is resentful. At first, in his first few lives, of Link and of what he did. But soon he realizes it was never Link’s fault. It wasn’t their fault that they were brave, that they loved. He’s resentful Link gets to love, to make allies not out of power but out of trust. He is resentful that he always has to die, always has to fail. He isn’t resentful that he has to be killed or stopped, he wants it to stop. Ganon gets desperate, makes his plans bigger and bigger so that Link has to take action quicker or doom their homeland. 
He likes Link. He likes the courageous little Hylian that will stop at nothing to stop him. He likes Zelda, he likes the compassion and sympathy she hides in her eyes when she sees him. She remembers too and it he knows it. 
What he doesn’t know is that Link remembers. He doesn’t know Link hates it; that they know they’re doomed to this game of cat and mouse always at an arms reach but never close enough to just talk. 
Ganon loses control. He wants to talk to the triforce- no,- curse bearers. He wants them to know he wants peace but his words are never his. The moment he opens his mouth it’s Demise’s hatred conjuring the words, sounding angrier than Ganon has ever felt in his life; he’s not a bad person and he would kill for a chance to prove it. But it seems that though they have learned their history, they all remain doomed to repeat it. 
But then again I’m also fine with him just being straight up evil like who gives a shit he’s still an amazing character through and through? Like, lmao who gives a shit about that sappy stuff I’m super down for him being apologetically evil and owning it? That’s very likely the case and that’s what makes Ganondorf so great. He’s cunning and powerful and he knows what he wants. It’s just always a shame he’s never allowed to obtain what he wants.

Thank you to all the women marching today for literally taking steps to change our country. I hope the sound of your synchronized steps shake Washington awake. My heart beats in time with your footsteps. You are my heroes!
I wrote this two years ago and it still rings true:
This sticker came in the mail after I donated to Planned Parenthood. Immediately upon receiving it, I was picking at the peel, tossing on my boots, and grabbing at my keys. I felt so proud; so empowered; so ready to take action, even if it was just a car sticker.
But suddenly, my body went stiff. I hesitated at the door's threshold. My worry was not "oh it's a lease.” It was: “Wait. What if I get attacked? What if someone sees this on my car and smashes a window in? What if they pop my tires to demonstrate their disagreement? What if they pop my nasal septum in order to demonstrate their hatred of me and of women? What if I am shot on spot for my feminism? What if I am putting a target on my already endangered body? What if it this is what they call 'asking for it'? What am I risking here to show my feminism?"
For five days, the sticker sat staring at me from the coffee table, sometimes whispering, "Save yourself, sister; I've had my heart bombed by a thousand thugs for speaking out. Hide your tongue." And sometimes it said, "Do it; you have to; lick the envelope and commit to this message. Braver women have done much more." Out of cowardice, I debated. I put a dirty dish of comfort on top and forgot about it for a bit.
Maybe it would have been my my first thought if it were a different time. A time with a president who unflinchingly labeled himself a feminist and who acted like one; a time when organizations like Planned Parenthood were not in danger of being cut; a time when our country was not about to be led by a man who openly incites violence to smother opposing views, who is caught on camera bragging about the diurnal details of his routine of sexual assault, a man who would like to not only put up a wall but capture and rerelease "illegal" people as if they were an enemy species, a man built of money but devoid of integrity. Tomorrow our president?
Unfortunately, the time is now. And my first thought was, "what if I am assaulted for having this in my car's back window?" And I'm not saying that is our impending president's fault. He did not plant that idea in my brain; no of course not.
But there have been studies done about the potent power of authority. Stanley Milgram's experiment in 1963 found that many participants were willing to administer supposed electric shocks to others when instructed to do so by a man in a white coat. Sixty-five percent of participants were willing to administer the highest voltage of shock when encouraged by the authority figure (simplepsychology.org). It seems easier to do horrible things when you are told to do so by someone who is powerful; powerful and hateful.
It's hard to see a president with such aggressive, divisive, and misogynistic beliefs and not feel afraid that people will follow suit. That some little boy will watch him boisterously interrupt the person he's debating with and not carry that with him somehow- interrupt his friend in school the next day with a mirroring hand gesture or rude phrase. Or begin assigning numbers to women's bodies according to assessed quality; or talking about how they'll let you do anything if you're the captain of the football team. Or ostracizing the person wearing the hijab. Or laughing at that classmate with disabilities. Or assuming a deficit because of a pigment in skin. Or all of the above. This is not normal; this is not okay.
So many of you will say we are whining; that we are being over sensitive or crying about not getting our choice. And that is likely because you are in a position of privilege or you do not understand the potential for harm that this man and his administration embody. That you are charmed by his money; or that you are impressed by his "honesty". That's your opinion. That's your experience.
But I hope you can still listen. And hear us people who are terrified and angry and feel betrayed by the America we thought we knew. I hope that you can hear the feet of thousands of women marching to the beat of "this is not normal; we will not accept this; no, this is not okay."
I hope you hear the coins from the bottom of my pocketbook drop in the belly of Planned Parenthood's piggy bank. I hope you can hear the throbbing music from the LGBTQ activists dancing outside of Pence's place. I hope you hear the silence in the absence of voices at the inauguration from all of those absent performers that turned down the invitation.
I hope you hear me when I say our president genuinely scares me; when I say I am not afraid of what you think I am afraid of. Let me tell you, don't assume you know. Any day, anytime, I would be glad to Macarena in a porter potty filled with people who are transexual than occupy even the world's most spacious bathroom, 1,460 (please let the days of these four years fly) stalls down from our president elect. No thank you.
Please listen when I say I have taught the sons and daughters of moms and dads who hoped the grass was greener on this side but whose cards are not green; they are human beings who contribute to this country in ways you will never understand unless you listen. Escucha.
Listen. I will listen to you. I will listen to him. But each time I do, I am only more disgusted. I am sick. This is not normal. This is not okay for America or for any country or any person. We need to chant the mantra; refuse desensitization. It's not okay. It will not be four years from now. And I hope we can prove that then.
For now, I am here. I am here if you need to cry or scream or yell or rant or panic attack or pray. I am here and I am scared and I am angry and I am one of many who are stubborn and strong and set in our beliefs. And we will keep being here. So get ready for us.
Thank you so much to all of the incredible women marching around the country on Saturday to remind everyone of the rights of minorities who make up so much of who we are. You are so brave and so important and inspiring and I admire you so much. A huge shoutout to Amanda, my feminist mentor, for her dedication to the cause in Washington; I am so proud of you.
I'm sorry that I will not be there beside you. I'm sorry that I only have a sticker on my vehicle and a rant on my Facebook. But my heart beats in time with your stomps.
Thank you to everyone everywhere who is speaking out and marching on. You are what gives me hope about this country. You are what inspired me to press this sticker onto the cold pane this rainy evening.

(ONE OF MY ULTIMATE OTPS, NO AMOUNT OF NERVOUSNESS CAN STOP ME FROM TRYING!!! And nooo, it’s a good light hearted prompt to ease my way in!! Okay, here we gooooooooo!! AO3 link, cos it broke 2k and the ‘read more’ never seems to work on mobile!)
Sometimes, Jim wanted to do anything just to make Spock shut up. It wasn’t that he didn’t like talking to him, they often talked for hours off duty. But his reports were so dry, and he always insisted on summarising them out loud. Probably because he suspected Jim wouldn’t read them. He was mostly correct there. Still, it was even worse when he started summarising a report on the bridge, when Jim had only wandered over to his station to break the monotony or a slow day.
Listening to a dry report about the specimens they’d sampled on the previous planet was not breaking the monotony, in Jim’s opinion.
Even slumping slightly against Spock’s side, breaking into his personal space, wasn’t shutting him up. That sometimes made him take a step back and re-evaluate whether Jim was even listening. Not this time. This report was particularly dry, as Spock detailed the chemical structure of something. Jim wasn’t really listening. He was already thinking of other ways to shut him up. Punch him in the face, or kiss him. He wasn’t picky.
Either would certainly break the monotony, even if both were highly inappropriate, and likely to land him in the infirmary.
“I really would prefer to be kissed, rather than punched, if you are going to resort to such barbaric means of shutting me up,” Spock suddenly said, and it took a moment for his words to filter through Jim’s boredom.
The dead silence on the bridge helped him get there. He blinked stupidly at Spock for moment.
“No, you did not say that out loud,” Spock said, raising one eyebrow to the exacting height that indicated amusement.
Jim looked down. Sure enough, in his first attempt of shutting him up by invading his personal space, he had leaned against his side enough that their wrists were touching.
Feeling his face heat up, he pulled his hand back, so his thoughts were no longer open to Spock’s perusal. Clearing his throat, he glanced around the bridge, and everyone turned back to their instruments.
“I’m shocked, Mr. Spock,” he said, not looking at him directly. “One would think the former is breaking more regulations than the latter.”
He could see Uhura fighting a smile at her station, and scowled at her.
“Physically assaulting a high-ranking officer, even as Captain, is certainly a more serious infraction than kissing him,” Spock said, and Jim gave him a scandalised look, unable to believe he was actually saying that. On the bridge.
“Surely kissing a high-ranking officer without permission is classed as a form of assault,” he said, before thinking it thought. “With longer reaching consequences.”
Spock tilted his head, his eyebrow still at that amused height. “You assume lack of permission in haste, Captain, did I not just indicate permission?”
Jim couldn’t stop his eyes from widening. He was sure his face would be red. Had he stepped into some sort of alternate reality that morning? Was this even Spock? His calm and collected, logical, at least while on duty, First Officer?
“Surely when forced to choose between a kiss and a punch, it’s not the sort of permission that can circumvent regulations and prevent disciplinary action?” he said, his voice a bit weak.
Spock’s lips twitched, and Jim stared at him in shock. He’d not seen him look so openly amused outside of their off-duty interactions before.
“Surely an able Captain is not the kind to suggest something he is not brave enough to carry out?” Spock teased.
Jim made an embarrassing sound before he could stop himself. “Surely a capable First Officer is not one to take thoughts and hold a man to them!”
“Would a Captain rather face disciplinary actions for touching a Vulcan with his skin, without explicit permission?” Spock’s tone indicated no offence, but Jim still felt guilt twist his stomach. He broke that rule far too often, usually without even realising it at the time. “Which do you think the Admiralty would prefer to deal with? That, or a more personal breach of protocol?”
“Why, Mr. Spock, surely a Vulcan would prefer the former,” he said weakly. It was starting to sound like Spock was trying to corner him into kissing him. That was making thinking rather difficult.
Spock tilted his head to the side. “Why, Captain, I do believe you are exhibiting cowardice. Over a simple human gesture. How fascinating.”
Jim clenched his hands into fists, and his face grew hotter. Spock certainly had a tilt to his lips now that indicated a smirk. He was toying with him, and winning.
“Or maybe I was leaning more towards punching you!” he hissed.
Spock’s lips quivered, clearly wanting to smirk more openly. Usually Jim revelled in making him break that Vulcan mindset, and show his human half, but today he was completely thrown by it.
“How disappointing,” Spock said. “But the monotony is broken, is it not?”
“The mono—” Jim cut himself off. His voice was too high. And Spock looked entirely too amused, even if it was only by such minute shifts in his expression. “Mr. Spock! This is highly irregular!”
“But very educational,” Spock said. “That someone so brave could be so affected by such an innocent topic. I have witnessed this behaviour in other humans before, but thought you above it. Fascinating.”
Jim gaped at him. “I am shocked by your impertinence, Mr. Spock,” he said, regaining awareness of where they were, when Uhura sniggered. “Any more of this, and I’ll have to take disciplinary action.”
That only seemed to amuse Spock more. “Of a more official capacity? Or are we still discussing your indecision of how best to assault me into shutting up, as you put it?”
Uhura lost control, and let loose a peal of laughter. Jim was used to the bridge crew getting loose with regulations and propriety on particularly uneventful days, and often encouraged it, but he had never seen Spock so completely unprofessional while on duty before.
“Mr. Spock! Do we need to take this discussion of insubordination to the briefing room? You are setting a disappointing example to the crew!”
Spock tilted his head again, and he openly smirked. The sighed had Jim’s pulse racing Open displays of emotion from Spock always had that effect on him.
“It would be a more appropriate location for an altercation between high ranking officers, so that the lower ranks don’t get ideas, Captain.”
Jim spluttered for a moment, truly torn between punching him for making such a fool of him, and shoving him back against the console and making him eat his words.
“Oh, I do prefer the latter option, Captain,” Spock said, and squeezed his wrist. Jim hadn’t even noticed him touch it. “If you must break regulations.
“Mr. Sulu, you have the conn!” Jim snapped, pulling his wrist free, and glaring at Spock. “Mr. Spock, proceed to the briefing room, so we can discuss your blatant insubordination in private.”
Uhura snorted, and Jim glared at her, as Spock turned and exited the bridge without a fuss. Jim stomped after him, glaring anyone who looked at him into submission. To be made to look a fool on his own bridge, he couldn’t comprehend what had gotten into Spock.
As soon as they left the bridge, he could hear laughter break out, and his mood soured further. Spock was back to looking completely emotionless, and it only irritated Jim further.
As soon as the door of the briefing room closed behind them, Jim stepped close. “What the hell has gotten into you?” he snapped. “That was the most inappropriate conversation that has ever taken place on the bridge, and I am shocked that you were a part of it!”
Spock only raised an eyebrow, and Jim didn’t know what that exacting height meant, he hadn’t seen that one before.
“If you must touch me while we’re on duty, perhaps you should keep your thoughts on something other than all the ways in which you wish to ‘debauch me’,” Spock returned. “You had quite the imagery going before you started in on punches or kisses, Captain. Quite inappropriate for the bridge.”
Jim felt his face flush. He didn’t really have a defence for that, he had no idea how long their wrists had been touching. He usually tried to keep those thoughts buried deep whenever he touched Spock. When he was even aware he was touching him.
“Mr. Spock, if I breach protocol and touch you accidentally, the appropriate course of action is to break contact and reprimand me!”
Spock stepped closer, and Jim swallowed, and forced himself not to step backwards. Spock was completely unpredictable today, he couldn’t think straight.
“I was quite fascinated by what you wanted to do to my ears, I wanted to see you finish the thought,” Spock said, reaching out, and brushing the shell of Jim’s ear. “So many thoughts, that you have never acted on.”
“Mr. Spock!”
“Are you aware that Vulcan ears contain many more nerves than human ears?” Spock asked. Jim made a weak sound. All the times he’d thought of something like this happening, he never expected himself to be so completely thrown and unable to act. “Ah, I see you do.”
“Stay out of my head,” Jim mumbled, wondering if Spock was messing with him, and whether he’d find himself knocked out if he dared to kiss him. He’d been punched by Spock on more than one occasion, and he wasn’t sure it would be worth it.
“I like it in your head,” Spock said. “Why do you think I never reprimand you for touching me?”
Jim shook his head, and glanced about the room as if there was something that could save him from the embarrassment he’d landed himself in.
“Come now, Captain,” Spock teased, more open than usual, and clearly still experiencing Jim’s thoughts as he rubbed his earlobe between his fingers. “Where has your spine gone?”
“How illogical, Mr. Spock, one cannot—”
“All thought and no action, Jim?”
Jim shivered at the use of his name. He never could get used to that.
“I suppose, in terms of regulations, it is more appropriate for the lower ranked individual to initiate inappropriate proceedings,” Spock said, his eyebrow reaching that amused height again.
“Spock, if you’re messing with me, that is incredibly cruel,” Jim said weakly. “You clearly know how much I want this.”
Spock made an amused sound, and stopped playing with his ear. Jim just managed to stop himself from whimpering at the loss.
“I am most certainly ‘messing’ with you, Jim,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean it’s malicious. Or that it’s not something I too want.”
“Fuck, Spock.”
“In which way? You have thought of many.”
Jim mind was slingshotting around, and he wasn’t sure any of it was coherent, but Spock was still touching him, a hand on the side of his neck, experiencing it all, and still standing entirely too close, with his stupid eyebrow raised, and looking so damn smug.
“I suppose I should put you out of your misery, as they say,” Spock said. “Even if this is more enjoyable than I anticipated.”
That made Jim’s mind snap into focus. “No one puts me out of my misery!” he snapped, grabbing Spock by the back of his head, and pressing their lips together.
Spock’s grip on the side of his neck tightened for a moment, and then relaxed. Jim pulled back, and glared at him.
“Pleased with yourself?”
“Unendingly,” Spock murmured.
“You are being completely illogical today,” Jim said, taking a couple of breaths to steady himself, and hardly comprehending of the fact he had just kissed Spock, after wanting to for…well he wasn’t even sure how long it had been now. Long enough that he wasn’t sure.
“Seven months, six days, and three hours since the first time I saw it in your thoughts,” Spock provided, tilting his head. “I won’t bore you with the minutes and seconds. And since you manage to touch me at least twice each day, and often more, it’s likely that was the first time.”
“And you waited this long to do anything about it?” Jim asked, hating that his face was still hot, and likely red.
“A pleasant pink, is more accurate,” Spock said, his lips tilting into that half smirk again. “And I was rather curious how long it would take you to do something about it.”
“You are a fool, Mr. Spock,” Jim muttered. “And stop answering my thoughts. It’s creepy.”
“You can’t lie to me, Jim. I’m well aware that you like it. Perhaps a little too much.”
“Shut up.”
“Make me.”
Jim gaped at him for a moment, and Spock raised that damn eyebrow again in response.
“Yes, I quite agree,” Spock said. “Over the table is likely more comfortable than the floor.”
Jim swallowed heavily against the heat rushing through him. “I’m not sure how I feel about this side of you, Mr. Spock.”
Spock smirked again. “That’s not quite true, now is it, Captain?”

Power Is An Illusion.
Power is a myth only influence exists. Incitement of fear is all "Power" truly is.
Manifest your DESTINY, believe YOU CAN achieve your goals, know where you wish to get to in life, remain determined, work hard, anything is possible, Wars, Disillusionment, economic difficulty, division none of these things will hold you back once you understand you WILL SUCCEED regardless of their negative INFLUENCE. It's all in the mind stop watching the propaganda machine the television or Netflix you don't need to be brainwashed you have all that it takes to succeed within you already, you just need to take the steps to succeed and you already know what they are. Embrace your own intellect, distance yourself from doubt it is a limiting force but you cannot be limited unless you choose to be. Your mind WILL think what and how you programme it to think.
negative people, doubters, haters, scumbags, ditch them all, you are only afraid because you have fallen out of the habit of thinking for yourself, YOU DO NOT NEED THEM, they have fed off you for far too long. They repeat limiting affirmations to your subconscious mind near constantly I bet you have started to catch yourself repeating negative self sabotaging thoughts to yourself lately, 
HUMANITY is not doomed, we are not more divided than ever, we are not desperately battling against the evil tide of debt others have piled up for us to pay back. We have validation, we have worth in this world, we are Men and we are Women with a lot to offer the world.
No more moping expecting  the world to apologise for inconveiniancing us with hardship because like it or not we have chosen our own hardship through the choices we have made for ourselves. 
I refuse to believe as some in my country do that whites and blacks are doomed  to conflict with each other, I refuse to believe as some do that our Indian brothers and sisters are our enemy or are a threat to us. The days are upon us all to accept each other's right to exist regardless of whether we feel disgust, hate, envy or bitterness in each other's company.
I experimented by making friends with people I hated, pretty soon I realised I didn't hate them at all I was reluctant to confront things about myself I would rather have ignored. Now that I have faced up to these things I am all the better for it. 
Accept the LIMITLESS, ENDLESS possibilities of an ever expanding, growing Universe remembering "As it is in Heaven so it is on Earth" - (which I choose to interpret as: the Universe expanding=your mind expanding, growing, learning, accepting, evolving, becoming, or in a word POTENTIAL. AGE, BACKGROUND, RACE, ETHNICITY, COLOUR/COLOR, PHYSICALITY, MENTAL ACQUITY, SPEED. 
NONE OF THESE THINGS MATTER IN THE SLIGHTEST. YOU WILL SUCCEED FEEL YOUR OWN ENERGY AS YOU MEDITATE. YOU CAN STILL CEASE TO SMOKE. I KNOW YOU CAN BECAUSE I HAVE DONE SO, FOR 3 YEARS NOW I HAVE BEEN A NON SMOKER. IF  YOU ONLY ACCEPT THE TRUTH. "IT WILL BE DIFFICULT, IT WILL BE PAINFUL, FOR AROUND TWO WEEKS I WILL FEEL SIGNIFICANT DISCOMFORT. THIS I SUFFER GLADLY FOR AFTER THESE WEEKS I SHALL BE FREE OF MY SUICIDAL HABIT, I SHALL BE REDUCING MY RISK OF ILLNESS DRAMATICALLY, I SHALL BE HEALTHIER, I WILL LIVE LONGER, I WILL PLAY WITH MY OWN GRANDCHILDREN, I WILL SEE THE JOY ON THEIR LITTLE FACES AT MY COMPANY. I VISUALISED IT EVERY DAY FOR THOSE TWO YEARS, IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS I MADE TWO BETS WITH ALL OF MY THOUSANDS OF WINNINGS IN QUICK SUCCESSION ON THE SAME EVENING, I ACHIEVED MY GOAL, I HAVE A RENTAL PROPERTY.
I STAYED AT THAT JOB FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS, I WAS TOLD I WAS MORE FOCUSED, DRIVEN, RELAXED, APPROACHABLE, SENSIBLE, CALM, AND RELIABLE AFTER I HAD WON.
I NEVER TOLD A SOUL ABOUT MY WINNINGS, I FOUND I DID NOT HATE THE JOB RATHER I HATED MY OWN SUFFERING, ONCE I REALISED THIS IT BECAME A MATTER OF IMPORTANCE FOR ME TO ADJUST MY SUFFERING, OR RATHER MY REACTION TO MY SUFFERING, GAMBLING WAS A DESPERATE ACT BUT IT SET ME FREE FROM MYSELF. I NO LONGER WISHED TO DIE OR KILL OR HARM OTHERS BECAUSE OF MY SUFFERING.
I HATED WORKING AT A "MEANINGLESS" JOB FOR "PITTANCE" FULL TIME WITHOUT ANY CAREER PLANS BECAUSE I COULDN'T SEE PAST MY OWN BITTERNESS. 
IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING WITH THE EARLY ONSET OF THESE POISONOUS THOUGHTS WHICH SEEK TO BETRAY YOUR SOVEREIGNTY OVER THINE OWN LIFE, THEN  BESEECH YOU FRIEND'S ONE AND ALL SEEK THE COUNSEL OF YOUR GUIDE. YOUR PRIEST, YOUR COMPANION, YOUR LOVEX ONES, YOUR STRAIGHT TALKING COLLEAGUE,

DEFEND YOUR BELIEF' S DEFEND BOTH THE RIGHTS OF YOUR LOVED ONES/FAMILY/FRIENDS/NEIGHBOUR'S AND YOUR OWN, ALONG WITH KEEPING YOUR ACTIONS WITHIN THE PARAMETERS YOU CHOOSE IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN YOUR SENSE OF ACHIEVMENT, PRODUCTIVITY. This sticker came in the mail after I donated to Planned Parenthood. Immediately upon receiving it, I was picking at the peel, tossing on my boots, and grabbing at my keys. I felt so proud; so empowered; so ready to take action, even if it was just a car sticker.
But suddenly, my body went stiff. I hesitated at the door's threshold. My worry was not "oh it's a lease; I'm not sure if stickers are allowed." That would be a more normal concern for a more normal time.
No, instead the concern that stopped my soles in its half-dried concrete was "Wait. What if I get attacked? What if someone sees this on my car and smashes a window in? What if they pop my tires to demonstrate their disagreement? What if they pop my nasal septum in order to demonstrate their hatred of me and of women? What if I am shot on spot for my feminism? What if I am putting a target on my already endangered body? What if it this is what they call 'asking for it'? What am I risking here to show my feminism?"
For five days, the sticker sat staring at me from the coffee table, sometimes whispering, "Save yourself, sister; I've had my heart bombed by a thousand thugs for speaking out. Hide your tongue." And sometimes it said, "Do it; you have to; lick the envelope and commit to this message. Braver women have done much more." Out of cowardice, I debated. I put a dirty dish of comfort on top and forgot about it for a bit.
The lease issue would come to me later; much later. Not that I don't respect Subaru; I do. It just wasn't my first priority; my brain was swollen with defensiveness and fear.
Maybe it would have been my my first thought if it were a different time. A time with a president who unflinchingly labeled himself a feminist and who acted like one; a time when organizations like Planned Parenthood were not in danger of being cut; a time when our country was not about to be led by a man who openly incites violence to smother opposing views, who is caught on camera bragging about the diurnal details of his routine of sexual assault, a man who would like to not only put up a wall but capture and rerelease "illegal" people as if they were an enemy species, a man built of money but devoid of integrity. Tomorrow our president?
Unfortunately, the time is now. And my first thought was, "what if I am raped for having this in my car's back window?" And I'm not saying that is our impending president's fault. He did not plant that idea in my brain; no of course not. But there have been studies done about the potent power of authority. Stanley Milgram's experiment in 1963 found that many participants were willing to administer supposed electric shocks to others when instructed to do so by a man in a white coat. Sixty-five percent of participants were willing to administer the highest voltage of shock when encouraged by the authority figure (simplepsychology.org). It seems easier to do horrible things when you are told to do so by someone who is powerful; powerful and hateful.
It's hard to see a president with such aggressive, divisive, and misogynistic beliefs and not feel afraid that people will follow suit. That some little boy will watch him boisterously interrupt the person he's debating with and not carry that with him somehow- interrupt his friend in school the next day with a mirroring hand gesture or rude phrase. Or begin assigning numbers to women's bodies according to assessed quality; or talking about how they'll let you do anything if you're the captain of the football team. Or ostracizing the person wearing the hijab. Or laughing at that classmate with disabilities. Or assuming a deficit because of a pigment in skin. Or all of the above. This is not normal; this is not okay.
So many of you will say we are whining; that we are being over sensitive or crying about not getting our choice. And that is likely because you are in a position of privilege or you do not understand the potential for harm that this man and his administration embody. That you are charmed by his money; or that you are impressed by his "honesty". That's your opinion. That's your experience.
But I hope you can still listen. And hear us people who are terrified and angry and feel betrayed by the America we thought we knew. I hope that you can hear the feet of thousands of women marching to the beat of "this is not normal; we will not accept this; no, this is not okay."
I hope you hear the coins from the bottom of my pocketbook drop in the belly of Planned Parenthood's piggy bank. I hope you can hear the throbbing music from the LGBTQ activists dancing outside of Pence's place. I hope you hear the silence in the absence of voices at the inauguration from all of those absent performers that turned down the invitation.
I hope you hear me when I say our president genuinely scares me; when I say I am not afraid of what you think I am afraid of. Let me tell you, don't assume you know. Any day, anytime, I would be glad to Macarena in a porter potty filled with people who are transexual than occupy even the world's most spacious bathroom, 1,460 (please let the days of these four years fly) stalls down from our president elect. No thank you.
Please listen when I say I have taught the sons and daughters of moms and dads who hoped the grass was greener on this side but whose cards are not green; they are human beings who contribute to this country in ways you will never understand unless you listen. Escucha.
Listen. I will listen to you. I will listen to him. But each time I do, I am only more disgusted. I am sick. This is not normal. This is not okay for America or for any country or any person. We need to chant the mantra; refuse desensitization. It's not okay. It will not be four years from now. And I hope we can prove that then.
For now, I am here. I am here if you need to cry or scream or yell or rant or panic attack or pray. I am here and I am scared and I am angry and I am one of many who are stubborn and strong and set in our beliefs. And we will keep being here. So get ready for us.
Thank you so much to all of the incredible women marching around the country on Saturday to remind everyone of the rights of minorities who make up so much of who we are. You are so brave and so important and inspiring and I admire you so much. A huge shoutout to Amanda, my feminist mentor, for her dedication to the cause in Washington; I am so proud of you.
I'm sorry that I will not be there beside you. I'm sorry that I only have a sticker on my vehicle and a rant on my Facebook. But my heart beats in time with your stomps.
Thank you to everyone everywhere who is speaking out and marching on. You are what gives me hope about this country. You are what inspired me to press this sticker onto the cold pane this rainy evening.
