SIMTLEMAN'S GOING FOR IT: A 1920s, '30s & '40s save file (work in progress)

Here's the thing: like many of you simblrs, I only play with historical sims (being the 1920s, '30s & '40s the eras I mainly focus on... because I LIVE for that aesthetic). However, it's almost impossible to find decent historical save files to play with (except @antiquatedplumbobs's "Antiquated Brindleton", which is AMAZINGLY well done but it's set in the 1890s and that's not my vibe, really), so I got fed up and finally decided to go for it: I'm creating my own save file from scratch, damn it! Yes, you heard me.

As you can see, my first build is going to be an hotel CLEARLY inspired by the infamous Hotel Cortez from American Horror Story: Hotel, which at the same time is inspired by the terrifying yet fascinating real life Cecil Hotel. I am a sucker for art deco, always have and always will... so I've tried to go for that sort of mood: pure, rectangular lines, geometrical flooring/carpeting and gold... lots of gold.

So far I've done the lobby which you can see above, a library/smoking room and the bar (which I might be changing to a different location within the building and hiding it behind a secret door in the library since, you know, Prohibition was a thing in the '20s):

I'm also finished with the smaller rooms in the first floor, though I still feel they're missing something. I'm a maximalist and they sort of feel too empty for me, but then again that's what usually happens with hotel rooms, right?

I'd love to hear your thoughts, you beautiful old sports (see what I did there? Please tell me you got the reference)! Tell me what ya think and what other rooms/builds I should go for next, I'm open to putting my creativity to the service of your ideas! :)

And before you ask, as far as making this save file public and downloadable in the future... I'm not so sure, the only reason being it is so heavily CC based I wouldn't even know where to begin listing all the items I'm using. Wouldn't it be awesome to have a program that identifies and lists all the CC items you've used in a lot? Just saying!

Anyways, hope you guys like it and we shall see what this crazy project ends up looking like lol

• social anxiety im not very good at talking to people but im down to have shifting friends

• favorite video games: shelter 2, the sims, animal crossing, rdr and rdr2, bg3, detroit become human, resident evil 7 and 8, the isle, minecraft

• hogwarts uni (modern, golden trio era, its a university, theres no war and does not follow the plot)

• the beatles (modern, i like the friend group dynamic so much. its sort of a fame dr)

• baldurs gate 3 (im not following the main plot. i literally decided to go to this dr for one trauma filled man)

• bridgerton (i originally made this dr to shift for anthony bridgerton and then i scripted my boyfriend in it so i could shift for him instead. he's a bridgerton and im from a family i scripted in)

• rdr2 (this does not follow the plot because the game broke me i cant go through it irl. i scripted that the gang breaks apart before anything goes to shit and sean and i get to live a lovely life together. i haven't scripted this one too much, im shifting to chapter 2 where we are at horseshoe overlook)

• adventure time (me and my boyfriend are group shifting here together)

• ghosts uk

• marvel

• percy jackson

-my other drs that aren’t really planned out much-

• hannibal (this is the second dr i ever made a script for/tried to shift to. im very fond of it. its based on the nbc show and it doesnt follow the plot. i scripted out basically all of the trauma stuff, and i made some murderous characters good people. this is basically a dr to hang out with will graham and learn some skills. when i shift here again im going to rework the whole script probably)

• sims 4 (i have a vampire sim and I WANT TO BE HER)

• changeling (this is a magical school dr, where im a shapeshifter and everyone that goes there is some type of mythological creature/monster. just a place to learn magic and hang out with people)

• hawthorne school (this dr is loosely based on the apocalypse season of american horror story, but it doesnt have anything to do with the plot of the show because thats scary and i dont want that. im a warlock attending the school)

• wings of fire

• botw

• marauders era, fantastic beasts era, hogwarts legacy era (gods i have too many wizard drs)

-my waiting room-

my main waiting room is a cozy beach house, with no people except me and my boyfriend (group shifting here with him). its pretty neat, i have a tv with a streaming service that has every show and movie on it, and through the streaming service i can choose what art style/medium i want to view the show or movie in. so i could watch like the office in the style of into the spiderverse or something lmao. but yeah its mostly just a big house with a library and an indoor pool and other cool stuff on the beach where i get to hang out and play baldurs gate 3 all day. i can also shift to any dr from there.

On Spotify, I get "Lighthouse" by Collabro, which I wouldn't say is my usual style, but I love it, it's probably one of my Top 10 OTP songs and one of those songs that I think would make an excellent first dance song.

palm tree ⇢ do you have a fictional villain you shouldn’t like but love regardless?

Honestly, I wouldn't say that I have a policy of thinking of whether people should or shouldn't like villains, my one exception is, say, villains associated with real life horrific regimes (and not just in the sense of "this Fantasy Kingdom is clearly based on XYZ") from within about...100 or so years or so, out of respect for the victims.

But like, besides that? It's pretty much free game. Like, come on, I have Psycho 2 fanfiction stuffed somewhere on my computer, I'm pretty much immune to almost anything so long as there's a modicum of good writing or charisma. One of my most treasured plushies going up was a plushie of Malificent in her dragon form.

Probably one of the worse examples is Gordan Mitchell's Brennus is Brennus, Enemy of Rome, aka "Italians writing about the Gaulish occupation of Rome with all the nuance you'd expect." All I can say is: The man pissed the Romans off, he couldn't have been all that bad. Like, they went all out to make the Gauls the worst they could be and I'm there like "I can make him better/worse." (Look, if you don't want me to like your villain, don't make his first words on-screen "KILL THE ROMANS.")

...also, from back in the day, James Patrick March from American Horror Story: Hotel. The WORST (and the bad writing didn't help), but my god, did he have panache. He and the Countess were like. My fucked up OTP of choice for about a year or so, quietly. (I even imported them into my Sims 4 town at one point.)

17th February 2020

After getting a Uruguayan SIM card first thing in the morning, we set about exploring Montevideo.

Our first stop was Plaza Independencia which is home to a mausoleum of General Artigas who fought for Uruguay’s independence (becoming a theme in South America). After taking a couple of pictures of the mausoleum and the buildings surrounding the plaza, we stumbled upon some stairs that led us beneath the plaza and down to the resting place of General Artigas. Here we spent some time translating the Spanish writing on the wall, telling us his story.

Also on the plaza is the Palacio Salvo. At one point the tallest building in South America, we went inside to see if we could go to the top for a view of the city. Our luck was in as the English tour should have starter one minute earlier but the guide was late turning up!

We quickly booked on the tour and were taken straight to the top floor for the city views. Here the guide taught us the origins of the name Montevideo - the city is built on and around a “mountain” of which you can view River Plate, i.e. a mountain view. To be honest, the mountain seemed more of a hill from where we were, it made Sneafell look like Everest! The rest of the tour wasn’t that great as the inside of the building has not kept its original features, with much of it changed to residential apartments (it used to be a very grand hotel).

Lunch time was approaching so we walked towards Montevideo’s food market, via the old city gates.

Each of the restaurants inside the food market had an open fire which provided wooden embers to warm the rotating BBQs. The BBQs were covered in plenty of meat with chefs scurrying around them to prepare the various meals on the menu.

We sat at one of the bars right next to one of the BBQs, close enough to feel the heat of the fire and to watch the chefs working away. Despite all the lovely meats that were being served to the people around us, we could not figure out the menu at all and ended up ordering (an albeit very nice) sausage with a side of chips.

Not content that we’d properly experienced the food on offer we inspected the menu again and decided on ordering what we thought were lamb chops (the phone was translating the meat we ordered as “lamb photography”). The waiter behind the bar pulled a very minor “are you sure” face, but by no means a face that would set alarm bells off, so we sat and waited excitedly for our lamb chops.

What we had delivered to us was a small tubular meat that was brown on the outside with chewy, fat like insides. I could only manage one bite due to the texture while Honor bravely battled through her half of whatever it was.

On completion of the bush tucker trial we Googled properly what we’d eaten. We’re still not completely sure but if you’re interested in trying to find out for yourself, we ordered “Choto de Cordero”. You can imagine our horror after we looked into it a little further!

To remove the taste we sat at a cafe around the corner from the food market and drank a coke each. These cokes cost us about £6 each, most of it going towards paying for the seat in the cafe, a hidden cost we’d not been told about on arrival! We thought about complaining but the American family next to us were already laying into the waiter about it as our bill arrived, so we made a quick exit and grumbled about it to each other - like true Brits!

Next on our list was the Andes 1972 museum, telling the story of a plane crash in the Andes were 29 died and 16 people lived in the bitter cold for 72 days, having to resort to eating their dead friends along the way. The plane originated from Montevideo and is recognised as one of the greatest tragedies/miracles in Uruguayan history. It feels wrong to say that we enjoyed the museum but we both found it very interesting - Honor was particularly moved by it.

Not having anything else planned for the day, we headed back to the hotel. Honor went to the gym for the first bit of exercise either of us had done in a month while I went out in search of a barbers. I opted for a streamlined traveling hair cut and got a three all over - a look into my bald future. On my return I went to the gym, crossing paths with Honor on the way to show off my new look!

American Horror Story: Murder House

A primeira temporada segue a família Harmon: Ben, Vivien e sua filha Violet, que se mudam de Boston para Los Angeles depois de Vivien sofrer um aborto e Ben ter um caso extraconjugal. Na nova casa, a família conhece sua misteriosa vizinha, Constance Langdon, e sua filha, Addie. Ben começa a atender seus pacientes em casa, mas um em particular, Tate Langdon, sente um amor doentio por Violet. Ele faz de tudo para protegê-la, apesar de esconder seu lado sombrio e sua verdadeira história.

Acontecimentos bizarros e violentos passam a ocorrer com maior regularidade, com a família não tendo conhecimento de que já houve mais de 20 mortes violentas na casa ao longo de sua história, sendo assim, conhecida em passeios turísticos como "A Casa dos Assassinatos". A família luta com seus próprios problemas pessoais, sem saber que o mal está se aproveitando dos mesmos para gerar o anti-cristo.

É a primeira temporada da série de televisão American Horror Story, da FX. Estreou em 5 de outubro de 2011, nos Estados Unidos, e terminou em 21 de dezembro de 2011.

Curiosidades:

American Horror Story foi criada por Ryan Murphy que tem uma quedinha pelo terror.

Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters e Frances Conroy são os únicos atores que participaram de todas as temporadas até agora.

Jessica Lange não participou apenas da 5° temporada (American Horror Story Hotel) passando seu posto para Lady Gaga.

Murder House que na verdade se chama Rosenheim Mansion, já apareceu em séries como “Arquivo-X”, “Dexter”, “Buffy” e “The Twilight Zone, mas só ficou mais famosa quando foi a principal locação da primeira temporada de AHS. Hoje vendida por cerca de 17 milhões de dólares, ela possui moradores nada fantasmagóricos.

Na ideia original os atores Neil Patrick Harris e David Burtka iam interpretar o casal Chad e Patrick de Murder House, mas o papel acabou sendo interpretado por Teddy Sears e Zachary Quinto.

Em um episódio, é revelado que Tate (Evan Peters) provocou um tiroteio no seu antigo colégio em 1994, como uma forma de retaliação contra os colegas que zombavam dele. O caso é inspirado em diversos tiroteios em escolas que já ocorreram nos EUA. Tate pergunta a uma garota se ela acredita em Deus antes de matá-la, exatamente como aconteceu, segundo relatos, no Massacre de Columbine em 1999. A dupla real do caso se matou após os assassinatos assim como Tate induziu a própria morte.

Connie Britton a protagonista de Murder House quis muito ser uma bruxa em Coven, porém seu contrato com a série Nashville a impediu de fazer uma participação na 3° temporada.

O homem de Borracha é Tate Langdon, fato revelado no episódio 8, “Rubber Man”. O que motivou todas as atitudes de Tate dentro da casa usando a fantasia foi o fato de ele querer ajudar o espírito de Nora Montgomery a encontrar paz, dando a ela um bebê. A roupa de borracha veio do casal que morava na casa naquela época (2010), Chad (Zachary Quinto) e Patrick (Ted Sears). Porém, os dois enfrentavam uma crise no relacionamento e estavam à beira de uma separação, descartando a possibilidade de adotar uma criança, tornando-se dispensáveis para o plano de Tate. Neste ponto foi quando ele montou uma cena de crime com a ajuda de Moira para parecer que o casal havia cometido suicídio. A razão pela qual ele estuprou Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton) um ano depois foi a mesma, e por conta de sua tremenda força de vontade, ele conseguiu o impossível: fecundou o útero da atual dona da casa. Como o material da roupa de Rubber Man era muito apertada, Evan Peters precisou de lubrificante para vestir seu traje e ainda teve que dividir a roupa com seus dubles. Será que pelo menos lavavam antes de usá-la?

A maneira como Moira morreu está relacionada diretamente à atriz Frances Conroy, que realmente tem a íris de um de seus olhos descolorida. Alguns anos atrás, Frances sofreu um acidente de carro e precisou fazer uma cirurgia no olho. Ela mencionou este problema antes da temporada começar e os escritores decidiram alterar parte da trama para que ela não precisasse usar lentes de contato. Por isso Constance deu um tiro no olho de Moira.

Mesmo após mortos, os espíritos podem encontrar razões para não ficarem presos num ciclo infinito de dor e tristeza, eles podem encontrar um propósito e até mesmo se libertarem. Moira queria que seu corpo fosse desenterrado e que chegasse ao conhecimento de alguém que informasse a polícia, para que assim Constance fosse parar atrás das grades por causa dos assassinatos que cometeu. Por isso a empregada drogou o café de Ben e o colocou em cima de sua cova por duas vezes no episódio 3, “Murder House”.

Como é brevemente explicado por Hayden (Kate Mara) no episódio 8, “Rubber Man”, a casa tem um poder desconhecido, que permite que os espíritos possam tomar controle sobre suas aparições, se irão tornar-se visíveis ou não. E isso inclui as aparências dos mesmos, dependendo da situação. A própria Hayden, por exemplo, por vezes carrega hematomas relacionados à forma como ela foi assassinada, mas também quando houve a necessidade de se passar por uma pessoa viva, como no episódio 9, “Spooky Little Girl”, Hayden está com uma aparência normal. Alguns espíritos que não tem conhecimento de que estão mortos também carregam as marcas de como morreram, como Nora Montgomery (Lily Rabe), que após ter conhecimento de que está morta, não carrega mais o ferimento da saída da bala em sua cabeça.

O assassinato das Enfermeiras, Murder House no segundo episódio da primeira temporada, um flashback conta a história de uma invasão e assassinatos ocorridos em 1968. O fato é uma referência ao serial killer Richard Speck, que invadiu uma casa em Chicago em 1966 e assassinou várias jovens estudantes de enfermagem.

Hallie, o cachorrinho da família Harmon da primeira temporada, ganhou uma participação na série Suburgatory. Seu nome real é Lambchop e ela é uma cadela, na verdade. Ela ficou ausente de Murder House por alguns episódios por ter outros compromissos. Sim, uma cadela tem uma carreira na TV mais bem sucedida do que a de alguns atores.

Opinião:

É uma trama empolgante, AHS não é uma serie cansativa de se ver pois sua história é resumida em 12 episódios no caso da temporada 1 Murder House. A história te prende a cada ep. e você fica com aquela vontade de ver mais e mais. E quando começa a encaixar cada peça do enorme quebra-cabeças que o nosso querido R. Murph monta com a serie ficamos abismados por não ter notado isso no começo da serie. Bem elaborada, bem desenvolvida o que explica a minha nota para essa temporada. Grandes atores e personagens marcantes e bem interpretados. AHS é uma das series de terror mais bem aceita dos últimos tempos. de 2011 até hoje já estamos indo para a sua nona temporada e que mais poderemos esperar dessa maravilhosa trama.
