╔══ஓ๑♡๑ஓ══╗
The winter air nipped at your feet as you closed the door of your childhood home. It was winter break and you were spending time with your family for the holidays.
It also gave you the chance to spend more time with your best friend, Jungkook. You had known each other since you were 8 when your family first moved in.
Everyday, once the school bus dropped you off at your stop, Jungkook would come off with you and play together in your tree house. When the sun started to go down, he would go home which was conveniently located on the opposite side of the fence behind your house.
You two would play house, pretending to be a happily married couple or a princess being saved by her knight in shining armor. Despite this, the relationship was your typical "puppy love" childhood friendship. You didn't have romantic feelings for him at the time due to your age (along with the fact he insisted that you had cooties).
This all changed by middle school. Puberty was starting and Jungkook was proving to become a rather handsome boy. Another thing changed as well: your duo had grown into a trio, as you had become friends with a girl named Chaeyeon, who was in your homeroom class.
"The Three Amigos" as your teachers lovingly called your friend group, but your feelings for Jungkook only grew the more time you spent together. You didn't have the guts to tell the boy about your feelings, but your female best friend would understand… right?
Hwang Chaeyeon. That name alone rang around the halls on a consistent basis. She was one of the most popular girls in school, with star athlete status and looks too boot.
She had an "interesting" way of showing her fondness for you, including making jokes at your expense if it felt necessary. During her birthday the summer before 8th grade, she had invited you to a slumber party at her house, along with her teammates on the volleyball team.
A rather intense "Truth or Dare" game had begun, including some TMI from the gaggle of girls. It was your turn to go and you chose "dare", which would become a decision you would soon regret.
"Are you crushing on anyone?" Chaeyeon's teammate, Gaeul asked.
"Well… there's this one guy…" you didn't want to divulge something so personal to girls you weren't really close with, but that's when Chaeyeon spoke up.
"She likes Jungkook!" she blurted out to everyone.
"Wait, Jeon Jungkook?" Ryujin, another teammate, questioned.
"The really cute one that was in our health class last year?" Yoona sighed dreamily.
"Really, Y/N? You don't seem like his type," Aeri, the team captain, said.
"What exactly is that supposed to mean?" you asked pointedly, tilting your head.
"She's just playing! Right, Aeri?" Chaeyeon looked over at the brunette.
"All I mean is, don't you think he'd want a girl a little more developed?" The group of girls all snickered, including Chaeyeon.
You were never self conscious about your bra size, especially considering you were still growing as a person, both physically and mentally. Aeri was mature in everything, but personality. You couldn't get the sounds of their laughter out of your head, even as you tried to sleep.
You avoided Chaeyeon for a while after the incident, but Jungkook was there for you about your friendship troubles. That's what you liked about him, he was always there for you when times were rough.
Reminiscing about all the times he supported you, had put you in your current predicament: finally telling him how you feel. You called him saying you wanted to hang out underneath the tree that held the little house you spent so much together in.
Jungkook's figure soon passed by the wooden planks that made up the house? were placed around your house, hastily climbing over and landing with a loud "thud" on the ground. He brushed the dirt off his pants with ease, taking his spot right next to you.
"Jungkook! I thought we talked about you not breaking bones whenever you came over!" you laughed.
"We did, Y/N! In fact, after the tree stump incident, I've been able to perfect the landing," he replied.
You spent much of your time just talking about your classes next semester, your professors, and what you had planned for the rest of the break. He mentioned going ice skating with his brother and that's when you noticed how beautiful his eyes looked as the sun began to set.
"Y/N? Are you still there?" Jungkook asked.
"What? Oh yeah, I was just thinking about something," you smiled shyly.
"I thought I lost you for a moment. Please tell me if I sound boring," he chuckled.
"I could never see you as boring even if you tried, Jeon!" you pat his shoulder.
The both of you sat there in silence for a bit, letting the world around you be your music. Cars honking, crickets chirping, and televisions playing shows become much of the only noise that could be heard.
You took a deep breath, seeing this as the opportunity of telling the boy next to you about the feelings you harbored for him these past six years.
"Jungkook?" you started.
"Yes, Y/N?" he questioned.
"I like you." you bit your lip and closed your eyes, not ready to see his response.
"How long have you known you did?" was all that he said at the moment.
"Since seventh grade. I can't think of a specific moment, but you've always been there for me and that made me like you more than a friend," you said.
It takes him some time before he says anything else, but when he does, you'd wished that you had kept your mouth shut.
"That means a lot that you feel this way about me, but I have a girlfriend," Jungkook looked at you almost as if to say "I'm sorry" with his eyes.
His words hit you like a ton of bricks. If it didn't hurt that he didn't return your feelings, it stung that there was another girl that captured his heart. Did you know her? Was she nice? How long have they been together? All these questions swirled in the back of your mind until he further elaborated.
"We've only been together two weeks and we're going ice skating with my brother on Saturday. I probably should have told you, but-" Jungkook rambled, only for you to interrupt.
"No! No! Don't feel bad! I'm happy for you. I guess I should have expected that things would be a bit different if I told you how I felt." you flash a small smile, if only for it to hide your true feelings.
"I bet she's awesome if she's able to get a guy like you."
"Yeah, she's really great," Jungkook replied with your same shy smile, but something in the back of your mind felt like he was omitting something, but that all went away as you felt your eyes getting blurry.
"It's getting late, isn't it? I should probably head inside now," you suggested, hearing your voice falter.
"My mom's making chicken tonight, so I'll head back there myself. See you later, Y/N!" Jungkook waved, walking over to the fence before going over it.
"Goodbye, Jungkook," you said, feeling a tear escape your eye as you walked inside your house.
Tumblr media
A month had passed and the distance between you and Jungkook was palpable. No phone calls. No "hellos" across the fence. No going outside as much, only to avoid seeing him. The new college semester rolled in and you were apathetic about classes.
Your first class was an intro to photography course. You were undecided on a major, but thought that taking the class might interest you enough into possibly furthering your college years in the photography field. The class looked pretty small, with only six other students sitting down at their desks.
The professor was a young woman who didn't look too far removed from college herself. She looked excited about the new semester and felt like a warm presence in the rather metaphorically and legitimately cold atmosphere.
"Alright, everyone! I'm Moon Bora and I work in the photography/digital imaging department here," Bora began.
"I graduated three years ago with a B.A. in art history, but always had a passion for photography. Don't feel like you have to call Ms. or Professor either, considering I'm only a few years older or the same age as some of you."
The class laughed a bit as she continued going over her background, the structure of the class, the semester at a glance, and most importantly, the syllabus. She was beginning to go over the basic functions of a camera and the style of photographs when a tall guy walked into the classroom.
"Sorry, Bora! I just came back from weight training," the unnamed guy apologized.
"It's fine, Mingyu! Take a seat and I'll continue about what your first assignment is," Bora said.
Audible groans could be heard around you from the thought of already having work on the first day back from break. The only one who was not annoyed about the announcement was the aforementioned Mingyu.
"Don’t worry about Bora. She's a pretty lax professor," he stated.
"I'm Mingyu, by the way!"
"Y/N." you said indifferently.
"Y/N… that's a really pretty name!" Mingyu smiled brightly.
You really wanted to like Mingyu, you truly did, but you weren't in the mood to be hit on the first day of classes. He seemed like a nice guy, possibly even "classroom buddy" potential, but you couldn't shake off your winter heartbreak.
"Thanks. I really needed to hear that," you answered honestly.
"Not a fun break, huh?" he mumbled.
"You could say something like that."
Mingyu's expression was unreadable, but you could see the genuine concern on his face hearing your words. He went back to listening to Bora discuss the first assignment, which was to partner up with another person and find something that inspires you and photograph it.
"Want to partner up?" Mingyu asked.
"Sure. We're already next to each other," you laughed.
"Let me give you my number so we can find time outside of class to find some inspiration." Mingyu beamed.
Bora had dismissed the class for the day and everyone gathered their things as you both exchanged numbers and filed out the door. You were about to walk down the hallway, when he tapped you on the shoulder.
"See you around, Y/N!" Mingyu smiled.
"See you!" you smiled, watching as he walked away in the opposite direction. You were feeling optimistic of the semester so far. Your classes were going smoothly enough and you met someone new. Maybe it won't feel too bad after all.
You had gotten a text from Chaeyeon saying to meet her in the student union. It wouldn't have seemed too out of the ordinary since she is your friend, but it had been almost two months since the last you saw her.
She spent a good portion of the days following finals week and the first week of break on a cruise. Based on her posts from Instagram, it seemed like there was a new guy in her life. She didn't post any pictures of him outside of one story where she took a selfie with her mystery beau's face hidden in the crook of her neck.
"Hey, babes!" Chaeyeon smiled, going in for an air kiss on each side of your face while you had your arms extended for a hug.
"Hi, Chae! How was your break?" you asked.
"Amazing as ever, Y/N! I didn't want it to end!" she sighed with a glint in her eyes.
"What did you do?" you questioned.
"Well, after the cruise I started dating this amazing guy and we went ice skating for our first date," Chaeyeon beamed.
You started experiencing déjà vu as Jungkook mentioned going ice skating with his girlfriend during the break. You shrugged it off as mere coincidence just like previously and continued talking with one another.
Just as you were about to ask more about her boyfriend, Jungkook came right up to the both of you. He had a "deer in the headlights" expression seeing the two of you together, which puzzled you, as such interactions were common.
"Baby!" Chaeyeon nearly jumped into his embrace, leaving you in a stunned silence.
That was the moment you put all the pieces together: Jungkook's girlfriend was Chaeyeon and Chaeyeon's boyfriend was Jungkook. You assumed that they both had forgotten your presence as your female best friend started kissing your male one in front of every passerby, including yourself.
Once the two had stopped, Jungkook avoided eye contact with you before meeting your eyes, frozen in place. If the two of you were having a staring contest, it would be down to a tie as neither one of you averted your gaze nor seemed to blink in that minute.
"Hi," was all he could manage to muster out.
You nodded in response, making a point to look everywhere else but back at him. The tension could be felt a mile away and the only thing that was holding you together was the fact that you had one other class, which was relatively short.
"Hello! Earth to Jungkook and Y/N!" Chaeyeon cleared her throat, attempting to break the awkwardness, which was even more evident once she spoke up.
"Were you about to say something, Y/N?" she asked, Jungkook's arm placed firmly around her waist, which you couldn't help noticing.
"I… was just going to say that… I'm really happy that my two friends are together. In fact, I'm so happy that I'll give you too some space to enjoy each other's company," and with that, you power walked away with little hesitation, trying your best not to drop to the ground and scream.
It was one thing to find out that Jungkook had a girlfriend, but for it to be Chaeyeon? How long did they plan to keep you in the dark? None of that mattered as you tried to get on with the rest of your day.
Tumblr media
Two days passed and you were back in photography class, continuing working on the project with Mingyu. You tried your best to listen to what he was saying, but your mind was still stuck on seeing your best friends together after hiding their relationship from you for almost a month.
"Y/N, are you listening?" Mingyu asked.
"What? Oh, sorry! I just have a lot on my mind," you said.
Mingyu sighed, looking at you with concern.
"How about we go get some coffee? I could really use a boost," he suggested.
"That would be great!" you perked up, thinking about the smell of pastries and coffee beans, paired with the open atmosphere.
Bora allowed the students to either stay in the classroom or find a spot on campus to work together on the project. Luckily for the both of you, you had a little over half an hour to discuss ideas but a change in scenery was something you needed.
The walk to the next building over was a breeze as the familiar scent of a chocolate loaf filled your nose. Mingyu asked what you wanted and you replied with "caramel macchiato", as he waited in line.
There weren't too many people in the campus café, but from what you could tell the other students inside were completing classwork. Just being inside was soothing, as you spent much of last semester here.
You sat at the table nearest to the windows, watching as Mingyu grabbed two straws and brought both of your drinks back. He sat across from you as you both sipped your coffees.
He had gotten a mocha and seemed to enjoy it by how quickly he was drinking it. Other than that, you were going through your phone when he sparked up a conversation.
"I was going to ask you on the first day, but what year are you in?" Mingyu wondered.
"I'm a freshman! I haven't declared a major yet, but I hope to find something that piques my interest," you replied.
"Cool! I'm a sophomore and if you couldn't tell by how familiar I am with Bora, I'm a photography major,” Mingyu chuckled.
"How did you become interested in photography?" you asked.
"For most of my life, I was dedicated to sports. I played soccer from the time I could walk until I got injured in high school," Mingyu recalled.
"I'm sorry to hear that," you said.
"Don’t be. It made me realize other things in life could make me feel happy," he continued.
"I became passionate about photography after my aunt came back from a trip to South America: all the different animals and sites she saw, made me want to learn more."
"That must have been amazing!" you exclaimed.
Mingyu shook his head in agreement.
"Is there anything in particular you like capturing the most?" you asked.
"I love taking pictures of sunsets. I think they have the best vantage points." Mingyu responded.
That's when it hit you: sunsets… reminiscing about spending summer breaks with Jungkook. Going to the beach and looking at the light hit the ocean waves. It brought back fond memories, which were now tinged in sadness as you pretty much lost the greatest person you had known.
The tears start to blur your vision when Mingyu stops what he's doing to make sure you're okay.
"Oh no! Y/N, what's wrong?" he asked.
You didn't want to tell him, since you thought it would be stupid talk about how you were crying over a boy you never dated to a guy you barely knew.
Mingyu got up and grabbed some napkins nearby and handed them to you. You wiped the corners of your eyes before you regained your composure.
Talking to him gave you a sense of relief, almost like he represented something that's been lacking in your life. He was easy-going and made you feel comfortable being around you.
"Come on! Let's get back to class!" Mingyu smiled, leading the way out of the café.
Tumblr media
Several weeks passed and you became closer to Mingyu than ever. You would hang out at his place, the park, and the movies. He was the closest thing you had to a best friend nowadays, but history repeated itself as you started developing feelings for him.
It all came to a head last week, when he ordered pizza for the both of you while you hung out. You bit into a slice, causing a bit of the cheese to stick to the corner of your mouth. Being the gentleman he is, he wiped it off for you but let his thumb linger near your cheek.
You were doomed! You've just started getting close to Mingyu and the thought of him rejecting you and possibly not wanting to be friends was something that you didn't want to happen.
Mingyu was a genuinely nice guy and you could tell how attentive he was in terms of remembering stuff about you. When you mentioned liking Skittles, he bought a special Valentine's Day pack. Then, there was the time you mentioned getting cold in biology class and he brought an extra sweater.
If it wasn’t for the fact you had a history of falling for people that showed you any form of decency, one might think he had a crush on you, but the only way for you to know this is by telling him how you feel.
You both were sitting in the drive-thru line at a small, family-owned fast food restaurant when Mingyu stared at a couple that was passing by.
"Y/N, do you believe in soul mates?" he pondered.
"Well, Gyu… to be honest, I did, but not so much anymore," you responded.
"Oh, really? How come?" he further asked.
You didn't expect to be asked a question like that right before you were consumed with grease and fat, but now felt like the time to open up to him.
"There was this guy, Jungkook, we've known each other since we were little kids and I had a crush on him," you began.
"I told him how I felt over the break, but he said he had a girlfriend… who is also our friend."
Mingyu could tell it still made you feel sad, but he wanted to be there for support. That's another reason why you liked him: he was always there.
"Was that why you were crying when we first started working on the project?" he asked.
You simply nodded your head and watched along as he got the food from the window and carefully drove off.
"I'm feeling… better now, especially with you caring," you smiled shyly.
"Of course I care, Y/N. You're my friend and I hate seeing you sad," Mingyu rubbed the small of your back, while you reassured him that you were fine.
"Actually, I really like you alot,"
Your eyes lit up when you heard that. The guy who single handedly became the constant presence in your life that you needed for a short period of time, the one who always checked up on you, returned your feelings.
"That's a good thing, Kim because I like you a lot, too," leaving you both facing each other at a red light.
Your faces, only mere inches apart, soon molded as you leaned in for a kiss.
It felt as if you two were the only people in the world at the moment. You were lost in each other's presence, not even worried about the food that much anymore.
Mingyu brought his hand up to deepen the kiss when, unbeknownst to either of you, the light turned green and the car behind honked their horn.
"How about we hold off on kissing at a traffic stop for now?" you giggled.
"For sure," Mingyu laughed.
Tumblr media
The past three weeks with Mingyu have been amazing. You completed the project by taking a photo of the Moon during a night outing to the beach. He considers it your first official date after the confession and you couldn’t have picked a better place.
Now, you both were coming to campus on a Friday night which was a game night/pajama party organized by student affairs. It was sure to be an eventful night, with Mingyu wearing a SpongeBob onesie and you wearing a Minions one.
There was an intense game of Twister between him, his friend Joshua, and one of the residential advisors when a hand tapped on your shoulder. You turned around to be greeted by Jungkook's face.
"Hey, Y/N. Can I talk to you for a second?" he asked, looking down at the ground like he was nervous or embarrassed.
"Sure."
The two of you stood in the corner when he decided to try and start a conversation with you. Something about his entire demeanor felt anxious, almost as if he was anticipating the worst.
"So, it's been a while," Jungkook blurted out.
"Why didn't you tell me?" you asked, getting straight to the point, since you knew he was going to mention the circumstances of your last encounter.
"What?" he responded obviously.
"You know what. You could've just been up front about you and Chae seeing each other. I likely wouldn't have cared, rather than seeing two people I thought were my friends keeping secrets." you folded your arms, not even bothering to look at him.
"I-I know, I just didn't know how'd you react? I know you two butt heads at times, but I didn't think we'd stop talking because of it," Jungkook sighed.
"For fuck's sake, JK that's not the point! The point is, why do you suddenly feel so remorseful about something that could have been resolved by simple communication?" your voice began to raise a little bit out of frustration, but only enough to where everyone else continued their activities.
"I didn't want to ruin our friendship, there was nothing wrong with what we already had." Jungkook said.
"Yeah, there was nothing wrong with what we had, but you hurt me. I didn't care if you didn't like me back, but do not tell me that you're dating my friend… that's low," you shook your head.
"We all hung out together, so there could have been a time where you both could have just flat out said it."
You tried your best not to escalate the situation further, but it was taking everything in you to not give him a piece of your mind. It took one deep breath, but you were somewhat calm.
"I'm sorry, Y/N. I do care about you and even though it's not romantic, I still want to be your friend." Jungkook sighed, rubbing the temples of his forehead.
"Listen… Jungkook, we've grown up together, you were the one person that understood who I was and we spent some of the best times of our lives together," you started, closing your eyes before continuing.
"But right now, we're in two different worlds. The past two months that we've been distant from each other, I met the most important person in my life right now and I'm very happy about that." you nod, with a small smile.
"You mean a lot to me, but I've outgrown that part of my life where I'm just waiting around for someone. Goodbye, Jungkook."
With that, you walked back to the circle in the middle of the room watching your boyfriend fall to the ground in a fit of laughter. You pulled Mingyu off the ground, earning a big bear hug from him.
In the corner of your eyes, you could see Jungkook standing off to the side watching as Mingyu held you in his arms. Wounds take time to heal, but for now, you were focused on what was straight ahead.

Future Coldflash Fics
I've been juggling a few ideas for Coldflash for ages and now that I'm wrapping up Taking Our Chances, I thought I'd make a poll to see if people would like to see one idea more than the other. Underneath the poll will be a better description of them, and if you like more than one, feel free to reply just so I know!
A/B/O AU: Leonard scents Barry to make it more believable for him to join him and Lewis on the heist, and even after Leonard's arrested, they keep it going through conjugal visits and of course things get smutty quick and they catch feelings, naturally. No Earth-2 or Zoom arc
Earth-2: Leonard (Earth prime) survives the Oculus by absorbing its powers, and he uses it to trap Barry on Earth-2 for reasons. Barry creates a life for himself there and falls in love with single father Mayor Snart. Gives Barry a chance to have a very different role as the Flash, lots of found family and friendships
Cassie: When the Oculus explodes, it sends Leonard through time to when Cassandra Savage is a little girl. He rescues her, steals Savage's time ship, and then picks up Barry to help him right before he was going to go back in time to save his mom. Lots of fluff, healing, found family, protective co-parents Leonard and Barry
Established Relationship: Leonard meets Barry when he's a little kid, visiting his father at Iron Heights the same day Lisa is visiting him. They have a friendship that lasts years but when Leonard meets him again as an adult, he can't help falling in love with Barry and they start dating in secret. The story picks up when Barry's struck by lightning, and Leonard meets Iris and together they start investigating Wells while Barry's in his coma, slowly adding more and more people to their team. Probably the angstiest of these fics since Leonard spends most of it missing Barry :'(

20 questions for fic writers!
tagged my @thotpuppy!! <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
209
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,195,283
3. What fandoms do you write for?
on AO3, i have posted for: Teen Wolf Merlin Raven Cycle Captive Prince Dark Rise Supernatural (crossover w/TW) once upon a time, back in FFN days, i also wrote and posted for Harry Potter (primarily) and then one each for Newsies, Little Mermaid II, and Twilight. none of these fics ever got finished lmao.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Metamorphose (Merlin, Merthur, 7750 kudos) Happiness is Effortless (TW, Sterek, 7746 kudos) Much Ado About You Two (TW, Sterek, 7046 kudos) I'll Dissolve When The Rain Pours In... (TW, Stackson, 6172 kudos) We Duel At Dawn (Merlin, Merthur, 4949 kudos)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
i respond to all my comments!! (except for comments on old suspended WIPs that ask if i'm writing more, which i let sit in my inbox to haunt me like a beating heart under my floorboards slowly driving me insane until i figure out if i am writing more or if i can definitively tell them it's abandoned alkfdgh) i've been stuck recently though and have let my inbox get backed up for a month, so i really need to go on a reply spree soon 😭 it's just a point of pride, i guess? i made the decision that i would Respond To All Comments/Reviews I Ever Get when i first started posting back on FFN in ye olden days (like 2008 lol), and i've been pretty darn good at keeping that promise to myself. and i just think it's nice!! FFN had private messaging, and a lot of those responses turned into whole conversations and friendships that lasted for months. community engagement is a good thing and i like reaching back to the people who reach out to me.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
proooobably These Gordian Knots We Tie (Sterek)😅 though An Empty Glass Is An Ugly Mirror (Dydia) is also pretty bleak.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
uuhhh most of them??? i write a lot of fluff, LOL, i wouldn't know how to pick out just one that stands above the rest when the vast majority of my posted oneshots are sappy as fuck 😂
8. Do you get hate on fics?
i really don't, tbh. which i count myself lucky for, cuz i hear a lot of horror stories. but i've only gotten a small handful of negative comments, most of which were bitching about disagreeing with the characters' choices. i don't think i've ever fielded personal attacks or what ye olden FFNers would've called flames, lol. proportionally, they're negligible.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
on occasion. out of my 209 fics, only 13 of them are explicit, which is roughly 6% lol. including my 7 mature fics (not all of which are rated so for smut, i don't think) ups that to 9.5% 😂 i'm just not very interested in writing smut, not to mention it's both difficult and kind of boring and repetitive when you think about it. i feel like i'm notorious for romances that use one kiss as the climactic ending, if even that, haha. when i do (rarely) write smut, it's usually in dedicated pwp format, rather than integrated into a larger story, cuz i just feel like most larger stories (mine, at least) don't need it 🤷🏻‍♀️
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
the only crossover that i've written and posted was Teen Wolf/Supernatural, cuz i just could not resist the urge to have Allison call the Winchesters and tell them that her father had gone on a hunting trip and he hadn't been home in a while. i just needed that in my life, and i was offended that no one else had written it. also i thought that Dean "Easily Flustered By Flirtatious Men" Winchester should really meet Stiles "Doe Eyes, Witty Banter Someone Needs To Sex Me Right Now" Stilinski. for reasons.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
i have! the reason that i teeechnically have a wattpad account is because someone yoinked To Be A King wholesale and posted it over there themselves, and i needed an account to be able to message them to take it tf down. weirdly, they changed some of the names, but not the distinctive names? the identifying names?? like Mordred or the names of my OCs. it was an odd choice. anyway, they took it down immediately with no other response. i think that's been the only time, as far as i'm aware.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
i've got 15 translations listed in my related works 😍 8 of them by the same industrious person, bless them.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
not since that one disaster of an attempt with a friend in early high school, lmao. that's when i realized that i am a control freak with high and unforgiving standards. she was writing her parts 1) badly and 2) WRONG and it drove me up the wall. i can't handle not having complete control of the narrative 😅 i write alone.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
that's not faaaiiiiiir, patently impossible to answer, next question
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
if i don't finish For Shell And Safety someday, it'll be a fucking tragedy, cuz i'm really proud of that one and i was so so invested in it when i started it and i've still got Thoughts on how it's supposed to end, i just got stalled out in the middle of it and never found my momentum again. but.....it's been 6.5 fucking years. however, i feel like, because i do still have those thoughts and plans, that one might have a better chance than REM-DAC, because THAT one stalled out right before it was supposed to be over due to the sudden realization that i actually wanted there to be a sequel and i couldn't tie up the loose ends in the first fic without knowing how to set up for the second one. but. i never figured out concretely what i wanted to happen in the second one. and it's been 5.5 years there too. still no concrete plans. so, despite that one also being a GREAT FIC that i'm VERY PROUD OF and deeply invested in, i will have to at some point accept the reality of how low the odds are that i will ever actually get back into the swing of it and finish what i fucking started. they haunt me.
16. What are your writing strengths?
i'm really not quite sure 🤔 strengths and weaknesses are easier to tell from an outside perspective, lol. i feel like i write good natural-feeling dialogue. at least, the professor in the one short story technique workshop i took in college told me as much 😂 said i had the best dialogue in the class. been riding that high for a decade aldkfjghf
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
idkkkkkk 😅😅😅 pacing maybe?? like, long form pacing in lengthier narratives??
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
i have avoided it so far, lkajdfgh. objectively, i think it can be done well and it can be done badly, and different methods serve different purposes so it depends on the story which is most appropriate. the online medium provides more avenues for it than print, like the hover text translations that used to be more popular before phones/touchscreens without cursors became the most prominent way to read things, or superscript links to footnotes with translations. some people put the translation directly into the narrative like an echo, but that gets really tedious really fast, and it would be simpler and more streamlined to just cut out the other language entirely and say "XYZ" he said, in french instead. overall, my preferred method is to filter it through the understanding of the POV character and their potentially limited/imperfect grasp of that other language. if they don't know what's being said, we don't know what's being said. if they pick out some words and get the gist, we see their thought process of figuring it out. it informs our understanding of the character, as well as providing an obstacle and creating tension. if you want to include a full translation of the foreign text, you can in endnotes or a postscript, but i don't really think it's necessary. if people wanna find out what it says, google translate is free 🤷🏻‍♀️ probably best not to use google translate to write the thing, though. if it's not a language you speak, preferably find someone who does speak it to translate, to make sure it's accurate and not butchered. hence me avoiding writing anything that requires other languages 😂 cuz i'm a monolingual usamerican loser who doesn't want to go to as much trouble as it would require to branch out like this. i am a "so-and-so said something unintelligibly french" bitch.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
cut my teeth on Harry Potter back in the day
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
another patently impossible question, i have no answer for this, i love all my fics equally (or at least in tiers uwu)

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @pipergirl17- thank you darling!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Officially? 17! Unofficially inc my anon works, 22!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
225,303 which is wild to me!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I mainly write with Stranger Things (heavy on the Chrissy-centric fics with ships :P) and drop the occasional Twin Peaks one-shot.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Do or Die (first ever ST fic!)
not a sound but the wind (ST hellcheer)
Meet Me At Our Spot (ST hellcheer)
In an Envelope Marked: Harrington (ST Max & Steve friendship)
Open the Sky and Let Her Come Down (ST hellcheer)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I love chatting with readers and try to respond to comments as they come in (occasionally I fall behind depending on my work sched, but I always respond!).
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
My Twin Peaks fic Twin Flames Divided is very similar to its canon source, so has to be angsty and a little out there! Definitely angstier than my usual fics!
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
So far I think Dear Donna, (my hellcheer slow burn told through letters) has the happiest, tooth-rotting fluff around. But all of my Chrissy fics have happy endings :)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I would say no, not really! Thankfully, everyone's been super supportive in the comments and on tumblr:)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Only once!! It's anon and was posted for Kinktober as like a little writer challenge for myself to see if I COULD do it. It was fun, but I'll leave the smut to the professionals lol.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I wrote on that's currently on hiatus, but had SO much fun with it! IT's a TP x ST crossover where Agent Cooper is brought into the midst of season 4's crazy supernatural murders. I'd love to get back into it, but I have other brainworms I want to work on now.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Don't think so!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Also, no, but I'd be so into that!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet! But I'd love to be a co-conspirator with my main squeeze @1lostsoul0fishbowl someday when our schedules and inspo lines up to try it!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Hellcheer has been my big one, but I'm starting to fall in love with some ST rarepairs lately...so we'll see if it stays that way.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Hmm any unfinished WIPs of mine will be finished in their own time. I have a hard time admitting one might be unfinished, because my core perfectionism won't allow anything to be left undone!
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think my dialogue is a decent guiding factor in my writing! It's at least my favorite portion to write!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
In general, allowing more creativity to flow while I'm writing. I went to college with an emphasis on more direct, scientific writing....But now I'm trying to unlearn all the drills of no flowery language or complex sentences to write with better immersion and storytelling.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I'm not confident enough to do that, unless I'm very knowledgeable in that language. But it's rare for me to inject that into the fics I write.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Twin Peaks technically!
20. Favorite fic you've written?
That's like picking a favorite child! But back against the wall, today my favorite is there is a light that never goes out , my wip for jonathan x chrissy. It's moody, it's 80s cheesy, and it's cute :)
Tagging off the top of my head: @1lostsoul0fishbowl @hangon-silvergirl @erythromanc3r @a-strange-inkling and anyone who likes guac is welcome to answer and tag me as the source;)

10 Days of Hero Shipping
Day 8 7
Whoops, I’m a tad late with this one! Believe it or not, I actually had this entirely written and just... forgot to post it.
So here it is now! Some fluff stuff for Day 7 - Feelgood
(today’s isn’t fully written so beach episode will be tomorrow :p)
Ro & Tomix
“Have you been aboveground at any point since you started working on this?”
Tomix glances up from his notes, blinking a few times at the warrior leaning in the doorway of the house he has temporarily claimed while he’s in Ravenloss. He can really only see half of her, one arm holding onto the doorframe and one leg out to make sure she doesn’t fall. Whatever the other half of her body is doing, he’s not sure, but with how she’s standing on her toes and wobbling slightly, he’s guessing the other leg isn’t on the ground.
“...no,” he answers, when he processes the question.
Her eyebrows slant and the visible part of her nose wrinkles in a way that he’s learned by this point indicates disapproval.
“That’s not healthy,” she says.
She pivots on her toes, twisting her entire body and swinging her other leg around – proving that it definitely wasn’t on the ground before – so that she ends up fully in the room. She doesn’t stop her movement there, instead hooking her ankles against each other and dropping into a crosslegged sitting position, the momentum from her spin having carried her forwards enough that she’s more-or-less right in front of him now.
Which really makes the movement sound much more elegant and graceful than it was, as she almost fell over three times while doing it. (It’s rather clear that it’s not a manoeuvre she’s particularly practiced in doing out of armour, given two of those occasions looked almost like overbalancing or over anticipating her own size)
He turns the page in his notebook and continues writing, paying no attention to her comment.
“It’s really not healthy,” she says, elbows pressed into the crooks of her knees and hands resting in her lap as she leans forwards. “Going without sunlight for a long time is bad for you. It makes you get sick. Sometimes you need to let yourself take a break, Tomix,”
He lays his pen down, letting it roll across the page to rest in the dip in the middle of the book, and looks up to meet her eyes. They’re wide and open and sincere.
In silent reply, he lifts both hands towards his face. He doesn’t break eye contact for even a moment as he traces deep crescents underneath both his eyes with his index fingers.
Ro splutters and draws back. The higher angle combined with the flickering candlelight makes the dark bags under her eyes stand out even more starkly against the pale of her skin.
“My poor life choices dinnae negate yours,” she says, sounding more mock offended than he thought it was possible to be.
“Is that so?” he replies, feeling the corner of his mouth twitch up into a smile despite himself. “Because I was under the impression you were talking about health, and, last I was aware, sleep is rather important for that,”
“You dinnae get to criticise my sleep schedule when you dinnae even have one,” she says, without a trace of heat in her voice.
“I was under the impression that you don’t either,”
That seems to be the point that she concedes defeat to, shutting her eyes and dipping her head slightly as she shakes it, shoulders shaking slightly with quiet laughter.
“Okay,” she says, the outer corners of her eyes crinkling upwards in indication of a smile. “Okay, that’s fair,”
For a couple of moments, they drift into companionable silence. There’s the soft sound of fabric shifting as Ro plucks at the end of her sleeve with a finger, soon joined by the gentle scratch of pen on paper as Tomix briefly returns to his work.
“I actually came down here to do something,” Ro says, breaking the silence. Tomix almost wants to ask if said something was nagging him about his health, but there’s something in the softness of his tone that makes teasing feel a bit out of place.
He sets his pen down again, a gentle tap against the paper. He looks up, ready to continue talking.
And then he stops.
For a moment, what he’s seeing doesn’t register.
And then his brain catches up with his eyes and he realises that there’s a pool of dark purple fabric around her neck where there usually isn’t and-
-and for the first time, he can see the entirety of his friend’s face.
She smiles, a small, thin, wavering thing that nonetheless shows her teeth.
“Surprise,” she says, voice taut and strained and only barely audible, in a way that makes his heart clench because he knows it has everything to do with fear.
She’s told him the stories before, of course. The reason she started to wear the mask, the reasons she still wears it. She’s told him what’s behind it as well, though seeing it - the clearest sign he’s ever had that his friend isn’t human, a fact all too easy to forget - is something else entirely, because he knows what seeing it means. Knows what she’s doing, knows what she’s trusting him with.
There are many potential ways to respond to this but only one that sits at the forefront of his mind and heart and feels like it is right.
He knows there’s no other response to give.
He smiles back in kind, similarly small but only out of nature, and leans forwards to clasp her hand.
“Thank you,” he says.
He doesn’t get the chance to finish fully, to elaborate on what that thank you is for (thank you for trusting me, mostly, but not entirely) because that’s the point that she all but surges forward to turn the hand holding into a hug.
It’s also the point that she starts crying, though the tears turn into laughter halfway through.
“Thank you,” she says, voice muffled by the fact that her face is buried in his shoulder. A part of him wants to tell her there’s nothing to thank him for. He doesn’t though. Instead, he simply stays quiet, and tightens the hug the slightest amount.
Eventually, he feels her start to shift away, and they both let the hug end.
She smiles again, this time bright and wide, showing even more of her teeth but this time unafraid to do so. Her eyes are bright too, with the left over glimmers of tears and the happiness that comes in the absence of fear both. Though there remains the slightest shadow hiding in the back, her fear is dissipated.
And nothing proves this quite so much as the fact that she leans over to lightly shove him in the shoulder and, through the grin now on her face and the almost dry tear tracks and the quiet of an emotional moment passing, says
“You really do need to take a break, though,”
It startles a small laugh out of him in kind and he mirrors her gesture, lightly shoving her shoulder.
“I will take a break,” he says “when you take a nap,”
“Deal,” she says, quick and fast, smile quirking up into a little bit of a smirk. “I’m holding you to that now. C’mon, the sun is still up up there,”
And she stands, pulling him to his feet via the hand that neither of them have stopped holding yet.
(It’s the long way out of Ravenloss, of course, given that the portal doesn’t work in the day. It doesn’t feel particularly long, though, not filled with talking and laughter and camaraderie. Before any time at all feels like it has passed, she’s pulling him up out of the dark caverns into fresh air and sunlight.
There’s a quiet part of Falconreach, just enough out of the way to feel calm and peaceful, near the gentle sounds of running water and in the path of the sun. That’s where she pulls him to, talking all the while.
She leans her head against his shoulder when they sit down and doesn’t let go of his hand.
“Is there a reason you’re halfway to sleeping on me?” he asks, after she shifts position a couple more times.
She blinks up at him, looking almost half asleep already. Her mask is back up but he can tell that she’s smiling.
“Dinnae trust you not to count the walk here as a break and go back to working while I’m sleeping,” she says, without preamble.
He laughs and admits defeat because that’s fair enough.)

Writing Tag Game
Tagged by @nagia-pronounced-neijia (I mean, sort of, in the ‘tagging anyone who wants to do it’ way)
how many works do you have on AO3? 96
what’s your total a03 word count?      1,430,766
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Green Girl (HP, Slytherin!Hermione, dramione, darkish morally, canon rehash)
The Thin White Line (HP, dramione, soul marks, one shot)
The Muddy Princess (HP, dramione, pureblood!hermione, Nott!Hermione, the funniest wedding I’ve ever written)
Like Brothers (HP, dramione, drarry friendship, Gryffindor!Draco, time travel, fix-it-fic, what if the adults were competent)
Unlikely (HP, dramione, Christmas fluff, one shot)
do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I do on AO3, though I’m behind, and though I am not good at thoughtful reactions.  Mostly I just say thank you.  I don’t respond when I think the person’s been a jerk, either on purpose or by accident.
what’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
I’ve written enough fluff it’s probably impossible to pick.  ‘Rebuilding’ is probably the most earned happiness for the most people.
what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
lol.  Bodyguard of Lies.  It’s a Voldemort-wins AU.  Draco’s been obliviating Hermione to keep her complacent after deliberately sabotaging their birth control.  She finds out and kills him, which he deserves, but which also removes her only protection in a very dangerous, oppressive world. She ends up getting killed too.  And her murderer takes their child and raises him to despise them both and be a successful Death Eater.
“Something is fucking wrong with you” was the gist of the reviews.
I co-wrote it with a friend and we finally took it down because getting routine comments on how awful we were got annoying.  I should repost on AO3 just to horrify people.
do you write crossovers?
I tried to write a HP/His Dark Materials crossover
have you ever received hate on a fic?
oh yeah. Oh FFN.  Oh AO3.  On tumblr.  On Reddit.  In dramione FB groups.   Sometimes it’s about how awful the fic is.  Sometimes it’s about how I must personally be a terrible person because I’m thematically interested in the abuse of political power.
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
I have, but I don’t like it and so I don’t anymore.
have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yep.  I’ve had to do multiple takedowns from WattPad.
have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes. I think the complete list is on my FFN profile.
have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes!  Bodyguard of Lies with Dulce.  It was tremendous fun.
what’s your all-time favourite ship?
myself and happiness.  also myself and outrageous professional success
what’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
probably the dramione/his dark materials crossover
what are your writing strengths?
stubborn persistence
what are your writing weaknesses?
lacking that special spark
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I am personally incapable of it but it doesn’t bother me or anything
what was the first fandom you wrote for?
Elfquest!
what’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
Probably “If I’m Gonna Fall in Love” because it’s just fluffy romance but when I reread it I still think the progression is done pretty well.
tagging - you, reading this!

fic writer meme
Surprise, surprise, @cinderellasfella tagged me in a thing! :) But it’s a thing I love talking about, so here we go! (I’m Realmer06 on AO3, btw)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
62
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
486,584. I’m really glad AO3 tells you that, because I didn’t want to go do the math. This is not the full scope of my fanfiction, btw. I have another . . . 300k about? On ff.net that I haven’t transferred for a variety of reasons, usually because it’s very bad and no one should read it.
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Not if I Kiss You First, a Simon and Blue missing moment from Simon Vs.
PS Sorry ‘Bout All That, my Dudley redemption fic
Five Times a Conversation Between Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin Ended in Thanks and One Time It Didn’t Have To, which is exactly what it says on the tin
From the Desk of Minerva McGonagall, an epistolary fic of McGonagall’s letters to Molly over the course of Fred and George’s years at school
All the Muggle Things, exploring a friendship over eight years between Hermione and Justin Finch-Fletchley, bonding over being Muggles in a magical world
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I don’t usually, unless it’s a really involved comment or unless I get a specific question.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
From Valley Broad and Fen, which is a doomed romance between Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin, so...
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Say It With Dandelions, a Lizzie Bennet Diaries bit of fluff, is pretty saccharine.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Just one. Widgets and Whatnots. A crossover for approximately four people, between The Night Circus and Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. It is not finished. Someday it may be,
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Mostly I get people who are unhappy with how I choose to portray post-series Draco Malfoy.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
As an asexual, the idea of writing smut feels uncomfortable, and quite out of my wheelhouse. So no, to this point in time, I have not.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
A few! It’s pretty cool!
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I tend to leave my cowriting to real life.
13. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Oh Lord. That I’ve written for? Probably Lizzie and Darcy from Lizzie Bennet Diaries.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
I mentioned Widgets and Whatnots, right?
15. What are your writing strengths?
I’m very good at getting in characters’ heads and making readers think about things that they hadn’t before.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action scenes of any kind.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I’ve only done a tiny bit, a little bit of French in some Harry Potter fics. I don’t have anything against it, but I personally am monolingual, so I am not confident in my ability to pull it off well.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet, but want to?
Ooo... I’ve dabbled in most of the fandoms that interest me. Eventually, I should finish and post my Into the Woods fanfic.
20. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
Yeah, right. I love most everything I’ve written. But probably the fic I’ve poured most of my heart and soul into is Pieces, my HP next gen story cycle where I try to fix everything I feel JKR has gotten wrong about her world.
I’m tagging @creativityobsessed and @unacaritafeliz, and anyone else who feels like it :)

Fic Writer Questions
from @clarrisani !!!
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
on ao3 i have 28. tbf though i never transferred over a bunch of my stuff from lj back in the day.
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
176,571
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
11 listed on ao3. shout out though to house, which i wrote a bunch for but it never made it to ao3, and likely never will, and also to sherlock holmes which i wrote some fic for but more significantly, spend 2 years roleplaying. also if we want to get real nostalgic, the hits from my ffn days included such fandoms as lizzie mcguire, buffy, star trek voyager, monk, and of course, labyrinth.
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Inevitable Homoeroticism in Spanish Romantic Heroes: my dean is a hispanist, grad school au. written bc at the time i was reading so many college aus and going you know what. you know what this fandom needs. and also i need therapy and instead i will write this fic.
i’m so glad it was and still is well received, and until this year’s dcbb, i thought i’d never write something as personally significant as this ever again. i’m happy to be adding something else to that list shortly (and hope it’s as well liked!).
as a sidenote, this fic was requested by and heavily cheerleaded by a friend of mine who has since passed away, and i will always think of jaymee when i think of this fic.
Like Real People Do: my impulse-written, kneejerk reaction to cas’s confession in 15x18. i wanted cas to have a chance to process his feelings separate from dean and also i wanted to push back on the notion that he was happy just saying it bc maybe after all he wants dean to love him back. it’s fitting that it comes after the grad school au in this list bc it was my return to fandom. also a rare example of me writing cas pov. (soon to not be so rare.)
Flying in Circles Inside a Jar: a s5 era fic where dean and cas get together in a roundabout way. god this was written so long ago and there are parts of it i want to change, but overall i’m still proud of a lot of moments in this fic. some good dialogue in here.
Command Me to Be Well: my angstier entry into my s15 fix-its. dean decides that he will let him and cas have sex but they can’t have feelings about it. this got way more popular than i thought it would, and it took me forever to write it, but it was definitely proof to me that i could come back to writing bc i had to edit this fic a bunch, and i was always horrible at editing. but i have better meds now yay!
fourth place is technically the codas to the grad school au, which also have some good moments but also the last coda i wrote makes me cry when i think about it still. but bc it’s part of the same universe i’m going to add:
Some Boys are Sleeping Alone: another early days fic ft. dean coming to terms with his sexuality and how it was affected by his father among other things throughout his life. this has essentially become the backbone to my conception of dean’s sexuality in canon. it ends sad! plot twist for me these days.
what i love about this list, looking at it now, is that it’s a healthy mix of my old stuff and my new stuff, and overall represents well my themes of dean’s bisexual journey and several examples of cas standing up for himself, though s4/s5 cas was just like that.
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
i didn’t back in the day so much bc, you know, grad school, i was busy. i’ve been trying to since i got back into writing but have been staring at my inbox of things i need to reply to for like three months. i will do it at some point!
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
god i don’t know. i wrote so much angstier stuff back in the day. i don’t really want to re-peruse all the random stuff on my ao3 but here’s one that sticks out to me even still: the au that has quinn fabray from glee in a sham marriage with jason mcconnell from bare: a pop opera and no one is happy. no one asked for this fic but i had many feelings about it.
7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
these days most of my fics end happy, but the one that still has me tear up at the end is the fluff entry i wrote for dean’s birthday: through autumn’s advancing. it’s jody that always gets me. jody hugging and murmuring a goodbye to dean, and then dean watching as she hugs and whispers something to cas. i don’t know what she’s saying but her embracing cas just gets me every time.
8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
oh boy. back in the day, i would write just about anything anyone asked of me, and i prided myself on selling the wildest concepts imaginable. my lj contains a multitude of shames, but on ao3 probably the wildest is supernatural/my little pony: friendship is magic. here’s another example of me writing cas as he bonds with fluttershy.
9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
i don’t... think so?
10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
boy do i! uh the naked kind?? idk my approach to sex scenes is to try to capture realism but in the emotional sense. usually there’s a fun amount of dialogue. some amount of significance beyond just the act itself. i think my big thing is still representing the characters as themselves, in character.
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i’m aware of.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
i don’t think so?!
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
this dcbb is essentially being like executive produced by @marbleflan. but there may be a more explicitly co-written fic coming up. :) :) :)
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
dean/cas, hands down. nothing will ever compare to the absolute insanity of the way they happened in this television show.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
i started a dean/benny/cas purgatory fic that i want to get back to one day... also my fic with ghost!kevin teaming up with human blood!crowley and human!cas.
16) What are your writing strengths?
i’d like to think it’s capturing the feel of the character and staying ic. that’s my #1 goal always and the best comment i could ever receive. i like my dialogue too.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
plot. i can’t plot to save my life. also editing. also inventing any original character is an absolute blindspot of mine.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
well i mean. i have. done that. my bilingual experience involves some weaving in and out of a language in conversation, usually mid-sentence or once you hit a word you either can’t think of in one language or feels better in another. or filler words/phrases like well, or let’s go.
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
gosh. probably lizzie mcguire.
20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
the grad school au will always hold a special place in my heart. but i also really love this one i wrote that was a love letter to the virginia state fair, which i went to like every year when i was a kid and still hold a lot of nostalgia and love for in my heart. i really want to retool that one. there are some things i want to change about it, you know, almost ten years later.
@ anyone who wants to do this thing!!!!!!!

Coco Fic Day Self-promo
Sooo here are my favourite fics I've written:
A Wedge Between [Ao3]
This is about Héctor reeling from the knowledge that he was murdered by his friend and piecing together the events leading up to it, wondering what broke their friendship. It's merciless heavy angst and it was interesting to write Héctor's self hatred and betrayal in detail. This is very dear to me because Héctor is a comfort character and this fic in particular was very cathartic to write for some reason.
Like Sunlight [Ao3]
Julio's perception of Coco as they meet, fall in love and get old together, along with speculations on Coco's similarities with Héctor and Imelda. They're the sweetest and I had to write something about them. It was really touching to go into Coco's struggles throughout her life and how she dealt, from Julio's POV. It's both Julico fluff and Coco's character study and it was super satisfying to write.
I Don't Care [Tumblr][Ao3]
Quite possibly the one I'm the most proud of and it got more attention on tumblr than I expected. It was supposed to be a short drabble but became a 1k fic. It's about Imelda's struggles and insecurities from her childhood to Héctor leaving in the sociohistorical context, written in second person. This one seriously came from within somehow and the final product is exactly how I first imagined it. I think it's my angstiest Coco fic.
Dreams [Tumblr]
Ficlet written for fantober; the prompt was dreams. It came out well enough considering it's a drabble thing I put together at the last minute. I'm proud of it because it's my first work written in second person and it somehow became very emotional and angsty and I didn't even have to try.
Abuelito [Ao3]
Exploration of Elena's feelings for Héctor and how they changed once she knew the truth. I always thought she would get along with him once she got past her distrust and I felt she would be very confused about him after learning the truth. I wanted to explore that. I especially enjoyed throwing in Elena's relationship with Victoria and Coco. It was really satisfying to write Elena making peace with the past and forgiving Héctor, that was something I didn't know I needed.
Imelda's First Move [Ao3]
Just some fluff with awkward teenage Imector where Imelda makes a move on Héctor just to spite the public. It was pure self indulgence, I wrote it because I needed an excuse to put together some random hcs on how they met and got together. I don't write a lot of fluff so this was a fun change and I like how it came out.
Doubts [Ao3]
One of my first fics and tbh I haven't reread it in a while so I can't say how it's holding up, but I did like it and enjoyed writing it. It was about Imelda's doubts regarding Héctor and her decisions. I had the idea because I thought she was bound to have some misgivings and insecurities about what she was doing deep down.

With all the angst that you write, do you ever have a hard time getting into the right frame of mind to do it? Does it come easy to you? Like for example, I can’t imagine writing about those heavy topics of trauma and heartbreak without actually feeling depressed. Just like how if I’m down, it’s hard to write fluff.
Yeah totally. That's why I haven't updated GOK in ages... There are elements of Santana's story that are a lived experience for me, so sometimes it does get heavy, but in the end I sort of just go 'you're writing this, you control the ending' and then writing all the angst actually becomes fun, because I know where I'm taking it. I think what also helps me is that I've never gone into a fic with a mindset of 'oh I'm going to write the angstiest thing ever and just destroy my readers blah blah.' Sometimes I don't even register that what I'm writing is angst until I read the comments haha.
Most of the time I think of it more as writing friendship moments, but I guess I have to write angst in order to get there. Eg. GOK was based on a super brief Pezberry conversation that popped into my head while I was cleaning one day, where Santana tells Rachel what happened to her and Rachel can't believe it, then sort of just goes 'but you're from Lima Heights Adjacent!' Then before I knew it, I had a complete outline for a multi-chap Brittana fic. Left My Heart in Lima was shaped entirely around Quinntana smoking at the hospital, Life After Love is based on a Kurtana conversation that happens in the chapter I'm about to publish. The lovely little friendship moments hold more meaning to me because they happen in spite of the bad stuff, and occasionally even as a result of it. So I write those, and I enjoy those, then the angst just follows...

Fic Writer Review
Tagged by @maos2013 (thank you!!!)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
28.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
188,716. I haven't looked at that in a while, so I was definitely surprised to see it that high.
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
4. Only 3 I posted while only 2 of them I have finished fics for. They are My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (I WAS 12), Avengers (the only fandom I haven't posted a fic for but have written for), Descendants, and of course, Agents of Shield. I feel like there might be more, but these are the only ones I have full memory of writing for.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
This is Home 277 kudos - My very first aos fic and also the very first fic I ever posted on ao3! And of course, it's a Dousy baby fic, which is kinda on-brand for me at this point. Also, it turned 1 year old almost a couple weeks ago, so there's that!
A Miracle Starts With a Beat of a Heart 192 kudos - 1/2 of my multi-chapter fics, and currently my longest multi-chapter fic on ao3. It's also the first fic to reach 100k words. This is definitely the fic I've worked the hardest on, and I'm so proud of what I've created.
Bittersweet Moments 79 kudos - I was surprised by this since I haven't updated this in a long time. My Mama May and Daisy additional/missing scenes fic that I should probably continue, but I just haven't gotten around to it. Probably should cause I have so many fluffy and angsty moments for these two.
Aftermath 73 kudos - 3x15 aftermath/missing scenes. 3x15 is my favorite season 3 episode, so I just wanted to do a one-shot of the aftermath with the team finding Daisy at the top of the building and also her in recovery with a little bit of sweet Mama May and Daisy moments.
Bedtime Stories 64 kudos - The first one-shot sequel to This is Home and the first fic written in the Their Future series about the kids of the Shield Team. This was in where Daniel tells his and Daisy's youngest child, Eleanor, a bedtime story of how he and Daisy first met. Just fluffy father-daughter bonding. And of course, Dousy cause you can never have enough of them.
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
YES!! I respond because it literally makes my day whenever I see a comment, so I want to make sure I let everyone who comments on my works know that I am so grateful for their comment, even if it's just as simple as a heart emoji.
6. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
I don't think I really have that many fics that end in angst if they do at all. I mostly write fluff, but if there is angst, it's a hurt/comfort so it usually ends in fluff. I guess Aftermath ends more ominously (but not really since we know what happens after 3x15), so that's the closest I can think of to an angsty ending. I do know that Chapter 4 of A Miracle Starts With a Beat of a Heart ends in slight angst since that part of the fic is between seasons 5 and 6, so they get the news that Coulson dies at the end of it.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you've written?
Nope. I don't have the imagination for it.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not that I know of.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes. Sort of. The very first Descendants fic I wrote when I was 16/17 (so about 4 years ago) and posted on Wattpad had its plot stolen and the characters' names were changed. The author added "inspired by [my fic's name] by [my username at the time]" later so I got credit eventually. I wasn't really upset at the time since I was still starting out writing frequently, and I guess if someone copies your fic, that means you did something right that they liked.
However, if it were to happen now, I would probably be super upset since I feel more connected to my fics now than before.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated.
No, but that would be cool to see!
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope, but I think it was my freshman year of high school, me and my friends wrote """fics""" about each other, and it was super weird but super funny at the same time.
13. What's your all-time favorite ship?
DOUSY!!! They really took my favorite fictional character ever and paired her with my favorite character from Agent Carter and probably my favorite male character ever, and they just worked so well! Like I was already excited for season 7 when I heard they were bringing Daniel back, but then put him and Daisy together... OMG! I would've thought their meeting was impossible, but then time travel was added to the show, and they just compliment each other so well!
14. What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
I don't really think I have WIPs that I won't eventually finish. For fics at least. I wrote a couple of original stuff during my freshman/sophomore years of high school, and I probably won't touch those ever again.
But if we're talking WIPs that I haven't written and they're in my head... next question!
15. What are your writing strengths?
I feel like I do fluff really well.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I feel like I still need to work on high-emotion stuff. Like showing anger and stuff and using blows towards the characters that don't sound too cringy/forced when they say it.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
For me, as long as it makes sense for the character who is saying it and when they're saying it. I try not to do it too much since I only speak English fluently while I can only understand some words and phrases in Tagalog, and I don't want to mess something up since I use Google Translate if I do write in another language. For example, I think I only really write Elena speaking Spanish and May speaking Mandarin in kind of happy emotional scenes. I might throw in a few phrases here and there in Spanish for Elena since she sometimes does that in the show as well.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. (AGAIN, I WAS 12. DON'T JUDGE ME.)
19. What's you're favorite fic you've written?
A Miracle Starts With a Beat of a Heart quickly became a favorite of mine, but I truly do love most of the fics that I have written.

Answers under the cut!
How many works do you have on AO3?
Eight. Mostly Lamplight Letters related stuff. I want to eventually branch out and write about other PL characters, but there’s so many ideas I still want to explore with Clive, Amelia, Gemma, and Bernard, so... expect mostly them for the indefinite future.
What’s your total AO3 word count?
59,512
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Rayman, Professor Layton, and I once wrote a High School Musical/Kingdom Hearts crossover as a teen wherein I shipped Ryan Evans and Aerith and I wish I still had it so I could laugh at it.
In the past, I’ve written mostly original stuff. It takes a really special fandom to hit that sweet spot of me being totally obsessed with it and feeling like there’s room to explore and expand on characters or ideas.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Lamplight Letters (22) - My current big project. Amelia and Clive solve mysteries at a boarding school together.
Awakening (7) - The first of an ongoing series that explores an AU where Clive is turned into a vampire and inadvertently finds himself out of prison and in a London very different than the ones he remembers.
Queen of Spades and Spoons tied for third (6) - Both Climelia fluff/angst so this makes me happy they’ve gotten a few kudos
Traces of Glitter and Taxonomy tied for fourth (5) - Both Gemma stories. I need to write more happy fluff for her, she deserves it.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Yes, and I’m trying to be better about responding quickly, now that I’m more involved in the fandom again. I had about a two year hiatus where I was figuring a lot of stuff out and it took me months to respond to comments. I’m going to try to keep up with them better, as best I can, because I really do appreciate everyone who takes the time to comment on my stuff. I never expected anyone to enjoy fics involving my OCs or my niche pairing in an equally niche fandom, but it means a lot to me and always makes my day when I see a new comment.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Awakening. I don’t want to spoil it, just in case anyone reading this wants to check it out, but Clive has an all around bad time.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not yet 👀 Though I am forever amused by the hate Clive/Amelia received on a Layton confessions blog a few years back. As one of the only people making content for the ship I guess that can be construed as hate toward my fics lolol. I’m just flattered I managed to produce enough content of them for someone to get angry.
Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yes, but nothing I’ve published. Maybe someday, if I ever feel confident and comfortable enough. Just older Climelia things. But I’d rather explore the story of how they slowly reconnect as adults before I dive into anything spicy lol. I feel like that’s something I have to earn.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of?? I would be kind of flattered I guess, because of how niche my stuff is.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but definitely impressed by those who take the time to translate fics.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No and probably never will. Writing is challenging enough without adding collaboration to the mix. The closest I’ve come is the back and forth head-canons and drabbles me and my gf @chyouxart send each other.
What’s your all time favorite ship?
Clive/Amelia. Don’t ask me how an obscure rare-pair grew to be my OTP. It started out with loving both characters and also thinking they’d have good chemistry and things building from there. I liked the challenge of writing a backstory for them and having to create their relationship from scratch.
I’m a sucker for the dynamic of too very cold, very proud people slowly opening up and becoming warm and soft towards each other through rocky, slow-burn friendship. And rivalry banter that turns into flirting. And both having difficult pasts that have eroded their trust and slowly learning to mend it through the things they go through together. And of course the angst that comes with Clive’s eventual decisions and what might happen to their relationship after that. Climelia is my tailor-made ship. It also has big sentimental value, because it’s the ship that allowed me to safely explore a lot of things I didn’t fully realize about myself and further connect with my now gf @chyouxart so it means a lot to me.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Lamplight Letters T_T I guess I should amend this question to I hope I’ll be able to finish it. I’ve just been working on it for so long, and now that I’m re-writing a lot of it, it’s going to take even longer. It’s been a bit discouraging, but also I feel a lot better about the early chapters and it is satisfying to see how my writing has improved. I just hope to one day complete it and be able to turn my attention to other big projects, even if that day is still far off.
What are your writing strengths?
I think I’m pretty good at writing descriptions, especially for locations? I’m also always pretty proud of my metaphors and similes, though I’m trying to learn to use them more sparingly.  I’m a lot more confident in my internal monologues now after writing so many for Amelia.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Not something I’ve attempted yet, and if I did, I’d want to make sure I did my research and would be able to portray other languages respectively and authentically. It can add a lot to a character if done well, if done poorly it just comes off as a gross caricature.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Rayman. I was obsessed with the original PS1 game and created an entire expanded universe for it.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?
Lamplight Letters will always be my baby. I love it. I hate it. I could spend the rest of my life working on it. I want to throw it into space. I wrote the first chapter on a bored whim and it quickly grew into the most ambitious writing project I’ve ever worked on. Definitely served as a writing boot camp for me and I feel like I’ve grown a lot through it, including meeting some amazing people in the fandom.

Which of your fics...
(eeeeeee!) I was tagged by @nikibogwater for this one, and I’m super grateful for that, because boy oh boy do I have things to say. Without further ado...
...did you think would get a bigger reaction/audience than it got:
Well, I have to say I thought Uneven Days would be getting a lot of attention, seeing as, yknow, Douxie dying at the end of Wizards would have been one hell of a turn. But, the more I think about that one, the more I realize it’s really pretty dark and downright painful to read even for me, so I can understand why it wasn’t bigger. At the same time, I still regard it as one of my better heavy-angst pieces because of how I was able to make it concise but impactful.
...is your funniest:
Hmm! I think that I tend to keep a balance of humor, fluff, and angst in my writing (and personally, I think that’s what makes it so appealing to me to keep writing) but Witch Hazel was by far one of the more fluffy and just all around funnier ones. I mean, really, a stinky moppet!Douxie who is overjoyed to be running simple errands for his master, sassy Zoe who doesn’t know what to think of this tall, cute, albeit dorky guy, immediately followed up by a time skip to the future where Zoe is soft about sweet Douxie and the roles are sort of reversed. It’s just so stinking cute (pun fully intended.)
...is your darkest/angstiest:
Well, previously mentioned Uneven Days probably has to take the cake on that one, simply because of how dark it is. Originally, Fundamental Experiences was going to be a lot heavier. I had actually considered having him accidentally kill his father, and had touched on going more in-depth on the abuse suffered. But...I have an idea to incorporate a quite uncomfortable moment where he sees his father for the last time into that series somewhere...
...is your absolute favorite:
Why on Earth would you make me choose?!?!? Not to mention, my perception of good or not is heavily influenced by reactions and comments, lol. If I had to pin down ONE, I would maybe say that at the moment, chapter 8, “Did You Know” of Saudade is my favorite. In fact, that whole work is my baby. I really enjoyed making them hurt over the course of 25k words, and then of course, writing out my own pining and yearning into these characters I’ve grown to love so much, well, that was cathartic. I think it’s what finally pushed me over the edge of getting over a semi-recent breakup and a heartache for a crush that was never going to go anywhere(the crush in question once sang me all eight and a half minutes of American Pie by Don McLean at work and my obsession with McLean songs took off from there). I self-project an unhealthy amount, but it leaves my writing astonishingly real.
...is your least favorite:
Yeesh. Well, I wrote Not Just Happenstance for a “The Dragon Prince” AU thing in a contest-type of thing that was going for a while, and it just felt so rushed and cringey. And this work is what led me to realize I really don’t like writing heavily canon-divergent AUs where just about everything is changed. AUs in general are not my cup of tea, but recently I’ve found a few I really vibe with, but I’m only going to write ones with minor changes. I’m down with reading a few here and there, however.
...was the easiest to write:
Hmm. I think mostly because of it’s simplicity and short-and-sweet style, A Friendship of A Thousand Lifetimes. It was one of my earlier pieces posted, back when I thought I’d get away with uploading under 1k pieces to that series. It came pretty naturally to me, and it was actually a little inspired by HTTYD in the trap aspect.
...was the hardest to write:
There’s a couple of answers to this question. Emotionally speaking, Uneven Days killed me. I had to take crying breaks to write it. And when I finished it, I wasn’t even relieved, I just felt...numb. But logistically speaking, I’ve done wayyyyy too much research on dancing in the 12th century for one of my WIP Zouxie week fics, lol, for it to only be a super minor aspect. I did a lot of research on that one for acceptable words to use, what clothing would have looked like, and so on, and then I only used a tiny bit of that info in the work. I really struggled to pair it own, too, and it’s almost deserving of it’s own mini-series. If you want the sequel to it, you’ll have to comment requesting it when it goes up Nov. 2nd!
...has your favorite line/exchange/paragraph (share it):
I have a couple answers to this one. In regards to fluff:
“Well,” he starts, running a thumb down her cheek and to her jaw. “Twice in nine hundred years is nothing. I was thinking I’d like to make up for some lost time.”
“I wouldn’t mind that at all,” Zoe answers. She meets his lips with a grin.
I mean, that one is just so freaking flirty and adorable, it makes me feel all AHHHHH on the inside. If not for knowing it’s better unwritten (and that I just,,, I mean,, I would write a scene with them making out but I just don’t know if I should yknow. if you think I should, well, by all means leave a comment here and consider it done) I would have delved into that more lol. I am soft for that sort of super sappy flirting. Saudade, Chapter 8.
In terms of humor? I LOVED writing that email interaction/skype call into my Saudade chapters. I just thought it was so freaking funny and fun to write, not to mention there’s so many lines that are gold in there, I can’t just pick one.
But in regards to the angst and pain??
Archibald feels numb and senseless to even the warmth of the sun on his fur. It doesn’t matter anymore. Nothing does. Everything has been taken away from him. Archie feels like a celestial body that had orbited a star all it’s life, only to have it suddenly wrenched away from him. He’s now purposeless. Directionless. The gravity is gone and there is nothing to keep him securely in place.
This one is from Uneven Days again, and whoooo boy does it hurt. I think I managed to capture Archie’s own perception of himself in regards to Douxie. Without Doux, Archie doesn’t know who he is anymore. And that in itself is a powerful thing.
...have you re-read the most:
I’m not sure. Just for perspective, I reread my fics nearly every time someone comments so I can get a feeling for it again, lol. Though, I have only reread Uneven Days twice. Once to edit, and once after posting and that is all. But I think I’ve reread chap 8 of Saudade over two dozen times. I worked so hard to get that one just right. It wasn’t difficult, it was just that I seriously wanted it to be perfect.
...would you recommend to someone reading your work for the first time:
Start with Saudade! It will always be the best place to start, and actually, if you read along with my series updates, they weave together quite well. If you really wanted, you could read A Wizard’s Beginnings first simply because of the chronological order, but it’s not necessary.
...are you most proud of:
Saudade will always be my magnum opus of fics that I’ve written for ToA. It has everything in it and more. But really? A Sinking Memory is by far the best piece I’ve written for ToA. If you haven’t already, please go read this. There is so much I could go into detail about the ways I tied that whole work together. And in fact, I plan to make a post talking about that because so help me Powers that Be, I am not letting it go under-appreciated. (because holy shit the symbolism and raw fucking emotion in there is WILD)
Tagging(with no pressure, but I’d love to hear from you!): @alovesongshewrote, @constantconfusion14, @feather-dancer and @sammyheroes. Thanks so much for the tag again, much love!!!

I was tagged by @stusbunker. Thank you and also stuff you, this is tough! But fun, as I got to dig up some stuff from the last year.
Which of your fics…
…did you think would get a bigger reaction/audience than it got?
Highway of Regret. 100%. It was what I consider my first (and only to date) Winchester brothers canon gen fic series. I got really good feedback from the people who did read it, but for the most part it didn’t make a ripple.  I wrote my heart out for that one, I really did. At first it stung a little (needy writer mode, I know) but I came to realize that I needed to write that story, and I love it, and neither of those things have anything to do with notes or feedback.
…got a better reaction than you expected?
Two different Dean one-shots that I wrote more or less on a whim. Each one I was afraid to publish for fear of reaction. It wasn’t the sexy swooning hero Dean, more of a broken and very human Dean. Ultimately the feedback I got was deep and very meaningful to me.  Serenity - 500 words, a Dean in AA ficlet A Great Dad - 1000 words and a pregnancy scare
…is your funniest?
A Very Good Bed 1200 words of Ikea fluff, Sam x Eileen with platonic Dean.
…is your darkest or angstiest?
Angel: A Lament This was a really tough one because I dont really write dark and angsty. Every long dark night has a dawn, and every bit of angst more than makes up for it with fluff at the end. Even this one is more prose poem than angsty fanfic.
…is your absolute favorite?
Taken By The Wind: A Sam x Rowena love story I love this one with my whole heart, you can see so much of my own journey as a writer and as a person, and I just love this OTP so much.  My favorite chapters are Green Velvet and Taken By The Wind
…is your least favorite?
I try very hard to maintain an attitude that every story played a role, to embrace the progress without being ashamed of the past. That said, there are still a few out there that, when I see them getting reblogged, I think “Oh god not that. A One Night Offer is definitely one of those.
…was the easiest to write?
The easiest thing for me to write are the fluffy one shot requests, especially when I get a song or gif along with the request. It’s not that they don’t matter, but I’m writing them to make someone else happy, so it usually doesn’t require as much digging and self reflection. And of course, they always turn out to be surprisingly popular.  Long Distance Lullaby is not one of those. It was both easy and excruciating, as I sobbed it into my voice-to-text one morning on the way to work. It was in the early days of the pandemic as well as my marriage breaking up and I just needed some comfort. I got a bit tangled up in endings and graphics and opinions, but looking back, there was something really painfully pure about writing it.
…was hardest to write?
May Be Home I had been writing fanfic for an entire 3 months when decided to write this 15 chapter series that included an au rockstar!Dean, an OFC, and more sex and emotions than I was really equipped to write. It was hard, because I was growing. But I treasure it now, because I wouldn’t be half the writer I am if it wasn’t for this story, and all the work that MJ put in with me on this piece.
…has your favorite lines/exchange/paragraph? (share it!)
I didn’t set out to write fanfiction. At first they were just stories I told myself. And then they got too big for that, and here we are. But some of my very favorite lines come from my series No Lover Like A Hunter, if for no other reason than they lived so long in my heart and mind before I ever wrote them down.  Dean found himself watching Jody as she talked. In the firelight,  she was radiant. Her high cheekbones and straight nose were striking in the shadows. The flames leapt in her dark grey eyes when she laughed and played in her messy hair, streaking the salt and pepper color with golden light. He had never seen her quite like this- so soft and desirable. Eventually, they settled into comfortable stillness. ... Dean’s voice was husky and certain, “Disappointed? Hell no.” He leaned back on the couch and reached for her, “You’re magnificent, Jody, everything I dreamed of and more.” ... Dean and Jody lay on the floor, facing one another. They gathered pillows and blankets around them until they were comfortable. The firelight played over their faces, warm and flickering. There were so many things that could have been said, but none of them needed to be spoken. They knew one another now like never before, inside and out. And from Pt 2 “So,” she murmured between kisses, “Last time- wasn’t a mistake?” Dean pulled back and looked at her, his green eyes locked on hers. “Jody, baby. You would never be a mistake.” ... Jody shivered under his touch. Her hunter’s body was strong and scarred, but her skin was like velvet. Her legs went on for days and her face, lit up with desire, was straight from his dreams.
Do I sometimes wish I had a little more experience under my belt before I tackled this pairing (and eventual threesome)? Yeah, of course. Do I regret it? Not a word. I love this story.
…have you reread the most?
Celebrations: a Sam x Rowena holiday series I love this one because it’s an au where the two of them are together and happy. He’s still a hunter, she’s still a witch. But they get to enjoy the little things like good food, online shopping, gift-giving, and all the other soft and lovely sparkly things.  Also, I can’t reread these stories without recalling the feedback from Lou and Val, which is a treat in itself.
…would you recommend to someone reading your work for the first time?
If I can convince them to read it, Sam and Rowena, anything Sam and Rowena. (just ask Kathy.)
For Sam one-shots tho: Like Art, Like Fire or Welcoming Him Home
For Dean one-shots (which are much more popular): Whiskey Glasses or Stay
Also, it’s a bit of an odd one out (again not that popular) but I feel like Looking for A Black Cat actually hits most of my non-smutty high notes.
…are you most proud of?
I’m proud of all of it. I’m proud of the fact that I’ve written as much as I have, improved as much as I have, that I’m still out here learning and growing. I’m proud of the fact that there is a little bit of my heart even in the easiest requests, and much more so in the personal stories.
I’m less proud and more grateful for the community that I have discovered through fanfic, for the very real friendships and support that extend beyond the stories.
If I have to pick a story tho, I will say I enjoy this one for a lot of reasons: Lucia

[The Shortest Distance] - extended author’s notes and meta
Watch this space! Instead of making a whole new post for each chapter, I'll be compiling everything here as I post the chapters. [Updated 27th January 2019]
Rating: M for language and explicit sexual content. TW for mentions of eating disorders and anxiety
Genre: Slice of Life/Angst/Friendship/Humour/Hurt/Comfort/Fluff/Romance/Friends to Lovers
Couples: Marley Rose/Quinn Fabray (main), side Santana Lopez/Rachel Berry, side Finn Hudson/Brittany Pierce, side Wade "Unique" Adams/OMC
Pairings: Marley Rose/Quinn Fabray, mentioned Marley Rose/Jake Puckerman, Rachel Berry/Quinn Fabray friendship, Quinn Fabray/Santana Lopez friendship, Marley Rose/Wade "Unique" Adams friendship, all the friendships okay
Summary: It starts with a friendship composed of books, lazy summer afternoons, and understanding; and blossoms into more. Slowburn Fabrose. Season 4 canon divergence!AU.
Links: FF.net | AO3
On the origins:
This. Work. Took. Too. Long.
Seriously, the plot got written, scrapped, revived and revised, scrapped, etc. far too many times to count. From being a slight supernatural!AU like For You I'd Burn the Length and Breadth of Sky, to a fic running parallel to canon, to a canon fix-it fic... I'd all but thrown in the towel on this. Most of it only existed in a scraps folder in my Google Drive, and I'd go add more unconnected scraps whenever I needed a break from other WIPs.
Eventually, the scraps accumulated such that there was some semblance of plot, and I got very fond of some long scenes; enough that there was motivation to turn it into a fic on its own.
On the writing process:
A few scraps and loose ends from my other Fabrose fic found their way inside, but quickly grew into their own thing. I think the reason why I've struggled so much with this fic is because I don't have a good handle of Marley's character. I'll be the first to admit that I don't even like many of the canon main characters, and that my headcanons are mostly derived from other fanfic, but there isn't much Marley in the first place, meaning I had to work hard lol.
Most of the actual writing took place in transit, on my weeny iPhone 6s screen, with my overworked thumbs. Not something I recommend to casual writers. I upgraded my phone! Now I have a much larger screen for on-the-go writing, and a new mechanical keyboard for editing/more stream-of-consciousness ramblings.
On the chapter titles:
A special mention! I don't think I've written much about how I choose my fic titles; I think it's because half the time it's a slapdash process, and the other half comes with a lot of thinking.
I love music, and it shows when I use plenty of song lyrics in fics and titles. My taste in music is pretty eclectic, but I can assure you that I actually like all the songs I pick for my writing, and I'm not just picking random profound-sounding lyrics off the Interwebs lol.
I do have a few criteria for picking song lyrics. One, it has to be relevant to the subject lol. Two, it has to have some depth which alludes to whatever hidden message is in the fic. Three, of course it's something I actually enjoy, as mentioned earlier. I think this is really important because I do pick up music recommendations from fanfic, and treasure them for the positive assocations brought from fic I've enjoyed. I think it's important to do the same.
Instead of linking endlessly, I've created a YouTube playlist collecting all the music used in this fic. Find it here.
Prologue: Title is from Marina and the Diamonds. I loved her first album Electra Heart and not because she was covered on Glee; Marina has this punchy, catchy style with awesome lyrics. She later released Froot, another genius work that needs a lot more attention than it's gotten.
Part One: Another Marina and the Diamonds lyric. Can I just take this opportunity to plug her album?
Part Two: Sam Smith, my love. His music always makes me want to write the angstiest, most heartbreaking things. He's one of the few artists out there now who writes the most obscure and complicated feelings into music.
Part Three: This was supposed to be the title of the entire fic, but I forgot lol. I like the Charles Bukowski quote better, but at the very least this wonderful song from Leonard Cohen gets a mention.
Part Four: Very different in tone from all the previous songs mentioned. I found the Arctic Monkeys' lyrics to be deep and intriguing, which is interesting compared to their melodies and catchy beat.
Part Five: This was a struggle! There are so many good songs out there with really great lyrics that could fit into the chapter and the themes I was going for, but in the end, I went back to Lea (as I tend to do for my fics). I wanted that aimless feeling Marley has for most of the chapter.
Part Six: I love Yellowcard. I've been a fan for more than a decade, for their excellent lyrics and wonderful melodies, their instrumentation and their creativity. Most of their songs deal with heartbreak, so it's rare that I come across a song of theirs that encapsulates so well what I wanted to convey in their early relationship.
Part Seven: One of my best buddies, IRL and in fandom, loves K-pop. She's been trying to brainwash me for years, and so far she's been having quite a lot of success; I've written a few things that are inspired by K-pop lyrics. The inspiration for this fic came from a new song from Mamamoo, which is made up of four very talented ladies.
Part Eight: I haven't been discovering music for a while, but Paramore's latest album was a pretty refreshing find. I was looking for something light that described the mood of this chapter.
Part Nine: Apparently, Vienna Teng's work has been something of a mainstay in fandom; which makes sense, with her poignant lyrics and soulful piano ballads. I discovered her through the Studio Ghibli fanfics written by Saddletank, who makes extensive use of her music with great effect.
Part Ten: I discovered the genius of Fleetwood Mac through Glee. It was the perfect time, now that I was going through things IRL that made the music relatable and meaningful. While not one of my favourite songs, the lyrics resonate best with the chapter.
Part Eleven: William Ryan Key (better known as the frontman of the pop-punk band Yellowcard) recently launched a solo career. He writes the gentlest, most profound acoustic ballads I have ever heard. Most of what I envision Marley's music to be is his work (with elements of Kina Grannis' artistry and Sara Bareilles' lyrics), and I would pay good money to hear Melissa actually perform his songs.
Part Twelve: Those who read my fics can definitely tell that I'm a massive Sara Bareilles fan. The woman is a delightful human being, and an immensely talented singer-songwriter (is it obvious I have a thing for talented people?). Again, the reasons for picking songs is really to set the mood and atmosphere for the chapter; the lyrics may or may not be directly relevant to the story.
Part Thirteen: Kina Grannis recently rose to fame performing a cover of Elvis' Can't Help Fallin' in Love With You in the movie Crazy Rich Asians. I love her style and interpretation of songs.
Part Fourteen: It's rare when canon and fanon intersect, and I'm always very happy to make a big production out of it. I loved Melissa's performance of this song, and I was actively looking for some way I could give it a nod. And so when I was writing this chapter, I listened to it on repeat.
Part Fifteen: It's always nice when things work out :) earlier I had a Marley song, and now it's Quinn's turn (conveniently ignoring Puck's part lol). While Marley's part was about taking the plunge, Quinn's was about getting over past hurts and building a stronger relationship.
Epilogue: I've used Sara Bareilles' music plenty of times in my work. Normally, I hate reusing music, but it was impossible to pass up the opportunity to use this beautiful song to wrap up a giant labour of love.
General Meta:
Prologue-Part One: These two chapters were intended to set the tone of the early relationship between canon!Marley and canon!Quinn, which then contrasts their new/old relationship when they meet again a few years later. They establish a friendship out of common interests (and a lack of anything better to do) which I think also gets them to understand each other a little better. I hope.
I took this opportunity to also set the friendship between Marley and Unique. Strong female (?) friendships are something always lacking in Glee, and I wanted to pay homage to these two awesome ladies. Also, Unique and Marley's friendship acts as a foil to the one Quinn and Marley start to forge here - because, clearly, the latter two are gonna end up together lol.
Part Two: Rachel gets introduced! Again, more comparing and contrasting: Quinn and Rachel's friendship vs Marley and Unique's, Quinn and Marley's friendship vs Quinn and Rachel's. Our girls also start to open up to each other. Recently, I've been following Chuck Palahniuk's writing advice (which I have printed out and stuck on my wall): Instead of characters knowing anything, you must now present the details that allow the reader to know them. Instead of a character wanting something, you must now describe the thing so that the reader wants it.
Part Three: A bit more background, a bit more development. In the previous chapter Marley opened up to Quinn about her eating disorder, in this one Quinn starts to open up about some of her past. It was hard writing this one mostly because Marley, unlike Rachel, wasn't privy to a lot of the things Quinn went through (this plays a big part in their relationship after they get together later down the line).
Rachel and Santana are together in this one! I would say more stuff about foils, comparing and constrasting, but by now you should've noticed it's something I do a lot. It's crucial that they're together in this fic because the girls do help our clueless pair move things along.
Also, I think y'all are pleased that I finally had Quinn dump her (off-screen) boyfriend lol.
Part Four: I loved writing this chapter. Now that we've established the friendship between our girls, I panned out a bit to cover more of the world they live in, and the people and events that shape their lives. It was a bit of a challenge since Quinn is now working, and Marley still a college student, but I hope I've done a decent job.
I get the feeling y'all hate me for putting Marley with some random man, but I think it's important. Marley is still very underdeveloped as a character herself, with loads of confused feelings. She needs to mature a little more emotionally, make decisions for herself, experience a little heartbreak, before she can be ready for an emotional minefield like Quinn Fabray.
It's not a coincidence that Quinn's ex is named Blake, and Marley's (soon to be ex?) is named Alex, by the way... Also, speaking of names, it will likely never be mentioned in the fic but Stan's full first name is Æthelstan (poor dude). Valentino is an arowana because of that fantastic expression. I headcanon that he's always judging the goings-on in that apartment.
Part Five: THEY FINALLY KISSED ALKSFHO
In which the girls take a step forward after nearly 60k+ words of slowburn - trust me, it was killing me almost as much as it was killing you guys. But I was trying to make it was organic as possible, and as y'all know Marley doesn't have much of a stable romantic background to draw from, and her closest role models are all certifiably insane.
There are a lot of challenges upcoming for them, which I will have to spend a good deal of time delineating. I am really invested in these two at this point.
Part Six: After all that slowburn, my brain kinda went into overdrive. The draft I had for this fic originally ended here, but I couldn't do that to you guys aren't you glad I didn't. So the first half came into being, with its gratituous fluff and their friends' reactions.
The second half came while I was developing Millie's reaction; I wanted to make a comparison between Millie and Judy as single moms. But to be a foil to how open Millie is, Judy had to be the bad mom. I hadn't intended her to come off as so cruel, but she's not truly evil. Quinn has to get her sharp tongue from somewhere LOL.
Also! Finn and Brittany! I gave them a brief moment in my other fic For You I'd Burn the Length and Breadth of Sky but killed Finn off uwu. I've been fond of this rarepair for a long time now, and it seemed fitting to put another rarepair into this fic. Additionally, I am such a sucker for couple angst, like the Rachel/Santana/Finn/Brittany dynamic. They really deserve a fic of their own, the poor things, but we'll see how it goes. This fic is primarily a Marley/Quinn, and will remain that way because I lack the mental capacity and patience to write a fic with two main couples without wanting to gouge my eyes out.
Some of you active and astute readers might notice a lot of mentions of stuff foreshadowed earlier in the fic, with extremely tiny throwaway moments being revisited in this chapter. I assure you this wasn't intentional, and I'm in no way the awesome and masterful writer all this makes me out to be.
Part Seven: Dear god, I was so busy with life I totally forgot to write the author's notes for this chapter... Anyway, the entire thing is about tying up loose ends. They're dealing with their problems while the shadow of Marley leaving hangs over them, and making the best of their time together.
And yes! I heard a lot of happy squeals when this fic finally earned its M rating. For those of you who are wondering about the sudden sexytimes in the middle of bigger issues, well... let's just say that it has consequences.
On a side note, I hope none of you out there were rooting for Marley to stay in NY. Don't worry, this is a romance fic, and there will be a happy ending.
Part Eight: When you don't have time to update the author's notes when you update the story... This was a pretty interesting chapter to write. Mostly because I was figuring out how they build up after the loose ends in the previous chapter have been taken care of.
Not really knowing Marley's canon character has been an obstacle in writing this fic, right from the beginning. She's also not a popular fanfic character but I do like a challenge.
Can you tell I watched La La Land as research for life in LA for this chapter? The music has been pretty stuck in my head too but none of it really fit the mood for this chapter, so I was forced to omit it. But yes, some of the bits and locales in the movie sneak into this fic.
Part Nine: Quinn's trip to LA, and the various things they get up to. Lots of indulgent fluff and smut, and a dash of plot at the end...
Part Ten: I love the friendship Marley and Santana have in this story. My headcanon for Santana is that she's the tough, worldly big sister type, and she's taken Marley under her wing. This is my attempt at advancing the plot by exploring the conflict in the long-distance relationship, with plenty of Marley-Santana-Rachel interaction (and throwing in loads of foreshadowing). Since there's so much heavy content, there's plenty of fluff to go around, padding the spaces between character development and plot. The Skype cooking idea was taken directly from my real life :)
Part Eleven: Mostly fallout from the drama in the previous chapter, and more advancement of the plot. It's intentional that there's so much drama, because it's something they both have (thanks canon) and I believe it's important for a healthy long-term relationship that they are able to resolve it. Also, Shelby is a convenient villain here, though I loved putting Beth into the mix, and having the characters react to the non-canon pairings in this fic. Doctor C makes a reappearance, as does Millie. Their growing absence from the main story is also intentional; Marley is growing into a character of her own, and she becomes less reliant on them.
Part Twelve: Initially I thought this chapter was going to be filler ahead of the big decision, but I was wrong. There was so much plot in this one ugh. I wanted Finn and Brittany to get their turn in the spotlight, but it had to be relevant to the plot as well. I wanted Marley to show us how much she'd grown over the course of the story, and from her canon self.
Part Thirteen: A lot of people thought they'd broken up in the previous chapter. I made them properly break up in this one >:) I wasn't going for a big dramatic shake-up or anything; the point was that people have relationship troubles. A lot of people have difficulty being an us, and this was supposed to be the result of the major cracks hinted at earlier, and the final part of their development as individuals before they can be in a relationship with each other. There's a lot of fluff and recovery; they have to break up to figure out how to be together, if that makes sense (but they do get their happy ending!)
Part Fourteen: The timeskip is important. It shows how far they've come, and the difference in how they now interact. While I can't show you how much Quinn's grown since this fic is from Marley's POV, I put as much of it into the story as humanly possible, and without making Marley into some mind-reading alien. Things are different now. The first break-up was necessary to put their past behind, and by getting together again, they're both prepared to work hard to grow from that. I do believe that it was absolutely necessary for them to break up to know exactly what they've lost.
Part Fifteen: The idea for this chapter came when watching Bones, and when talking to some friends. I needed to have them overcome what happened in the past, and symbolically walk forward together. Then I remembered a throwaway line about Rachel workshopping Jesse St James' musical, and the chapter pretty much wrote itself from there.
Epilogue: Not much in this one, honestly. I wanted to tie up loose ends, represent them moving forward without hesitation, and bring the story to a conclusion worthy of such a long journey. The smut was a bonus treat for everyone that's been following this.
On Marley Rose:
Confession: I don't watch Supergirl. There's only so much my poor heart can take from shipping non-canon lesbian couples who have a ton of onscreen chemistry, but who are paired off with guys. Bitter? Not I
So I take canon!Marley, pad her personality with a lot of extrapolation, add a hearty dose of logical explanation for inexplicable quirks from canon, and toss her into this fic to do a lot of growing up. If this sounds like a recipe, I think I'm too hungry.
Melissa's current turn on Broadway is inspiring a lot of the fic's direction.
On Quinn Fabray:
If it isn't already obvious that I'm in love with Quinn Fabray (and Dianna Agron for giving her so much depth), this fic should just help you reach that conclusion lol. no thanks to R*** M*****
The other Fabrose I wrote is from Quinn's POV, who basically spends the whole time sorting out her issues and stumbling into something she had never imagined could happen to her. This one is from Marley's POV, and also features her sorting out a ton of personal issues.
A lot of Quinn's character and experiences with her mother is taken from real life LOL.

Hey have you got any good kbtbb or her love in the force fan fictions to recommend that you like?
BOI do I have recs for you, anon!
Sadly though, I don’t really play HLITF, but I do have a bunch of recs for KBTBB! I had to dig through my archives from way back lmao. Eisuke’s my bias, so most of my recs are for him lmao this might as well be an Eisuke fic rec. I hope you don’t mind lol:
Ota reencountering MC years after she broke up with him while pregnant  (A N G S T) by @oasisofmyheart - A N G S T fucking g a l o r e . I used to dislike Ota a lot, but this fic convinced me otherwise. I love all of her works, but this one has a special place in my heart because it shows a different facet of Ota that the game never really explores. God, after I read this fic (and the succeeding parts), I couldn’t stop thinking about it for weeks, man. The writing, plot, characterization, hell, everything is A+. This is my favorite Ota fic of all time. Legit, I want to frame this fic above my bed, and Ota’s not even my main bias lmao
You’re Late (Fluff) by @zaizenakiyoshi - This is written in Eisuke’s perspective and I love it because the author shows just how in love Eisuke is with MC. God, like she even includes snippets into Eisuke’s insecurities and fears (which I love to see). I’m a sucker for his internal monologue, and this fic gives it justice.
The Shivers Down His Spine (Smut. And the good kind, too) by @unofficialvoltagestories - I don’t think it’s a stretch of me to say that a good number of fics in the KBTBB fandom are smut. Also, 90% of the time, Eisuke smut fics feature him as the dominant one in bed. This fic, however, shows Eisuke letting MC take control and it is g l o r i o u s (legit, there was a part where MC made him moan in pleasure, and I had to scream into my pillow because holy fuck). The fic is sexy, but not too raunchy. Romantic, but not too cheesy. In other words, the perfect balance of sexiness and sweetness in a smut fic. This is probably my favorite KBTBB smut fic to date.
Prompt #32 “I think I’m in love with you and I’m terrified.” (Angst) by @voltage-alternatives - Good god, this fic, man. Another thing I’m a sucker for: vulnerable Eisuke. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think it’s rare to see fics that explore his vulnerability. This one got to me because it shows how Eisuke tries to keep his walls up around MC because he’s too afraid to love, but they ultimately fall when MC reassures him she won’t leave him my weakness
His Best Friend’s Sister  (Fluff) by @elletxt - Finally, a Soryu fic lmao. So aside from being the best Soryu fic I’ve ever read, this fic explores Soryu and Eisuke’s friendship (which, I think, is rarely touched upon in fics). It’s also refreshing to see how dedicated Eisuke is to his family (despite being hilariously childish about it). I mean, where else can you see Eisuke making Soryu dick-shaped omelets out of spite???
The Five Times Eisuke’s Daughter Broke His Heart  (ANGST, PAIN, SUFFERING) by @retrogradeus - This one just fucking killed me and burned my corpse to ashes. Eisuke being a father is a topic I love seeing in fics, and this portrayal is just heartbreaking because it shows Eisuke, despite not being the best parent, still trying his best for his daughter. The last line of the fic utterly destroyed me. I legit almost cried, and I’d like to think I have Balls of Steel lmao I guess not
You (Angst) by @valogirl - The angstiest group fic I’ve read to date. She perfectly captures each of the bidders’ emotions and feelings for MC. The fact that they all loved her in their own ways, even after her death, will always get to me. Plus the flower meanings she included made it 100x more painful :’)))
Hello, Daddy pt.1 | 2 (Fluff) by @chemistrythings - I read this one a long, long time ago, but I’ll never forget this one because Eisuke’s such a big dork here. Kudos to the author because she perfectly captures the childishly dorky side of his character without going OOC at all (which I think is really difficult to pull off). Also, props to her for making one of my favorite portrayals of MC.
Don’t Run Away (Horror- Warning: dark themes, gore, yandere) by @logiebo - THIS FIC MAN OH BOY. From time to time, I enjoy a good darkfic. I think I’ve said this before, but Eisuke’s character is so deliciously complex that it wouldn’t be completely far-fetched to see him as a yandere (if I’m being honest, I’ve considered writing a yandere fic for a while lmao). I mean, wow. This fic is intense, but intriguing.
I Am Afraid of the Light (ANGST AND ETERNAL PAIN) by @2bedroom-baddestbidderlove - Shit, man. Like, the way she set up the whole fic, with Eisuke silently pining for MC, only for the plot twist to kill me in the end—ouch. It’s a songfic, and the lyrics just twist the knife in my heart… god, man. Also, her writing style blows me away because it’s so wistful, yet so on point. I’m in love with her characterization of Eisuke.
Voice (F L U F F ) by @maidofstars - Ah, another thing I’m an absolute sucker for—sweet Eisuke. The fic is short and simple, but it perfectly captures the depth of his love for MC. Like, the whole idea of using voice as a metaphor for his feelings just shot me in the heart, man. God, I love this one so much.
Letter two hundred and sixteen (ANGST :’)))) by @bolt8826 - Since I’m an unapologetic sadist who likes seeing (and making) Eisuke suffer, this fic is up there with all my other favorites. I mentioned this a million times, but I love seeing fics from his perspective because they make him seem more real, you know? Also, seeing Eisuke regret his actions to MC is a fucking A+++ for me.
And there you have it! These fics are all A+++ in every department (writing, grammar, characterization, plot, tone), and that’s something considering how nitpicky I am when I read fics (legit, I have way too much pet peeves omg).
