Can we talk about how unbelievably normal Kevin would've been if he wasn't the Son Of Exy? I mean seriously, even with that he's a history major. A history major. His mother died in a car crash, he was abused for over half his life, he ran away to live with his illegitimate father and yet he is still tries so hard to be normal. When Andrew gets at him for having no spine, it makes me so unspeakably mad because yes! of course he's scared! His abuser is chasing him across the country to his safe space and is torturing and killing his friends!
Kevin pretty much grew up in a cult and his response is to avoid confrontation with them because opening his mouth has always meant incurring Riko's wrath; it's better for everyone to take the path of least resistance- sit down, shut up and don't cause any problems. Kevin is pretty much the fawn response to Andrew's fight and Neil's flight and it's so annoying how critical of Kevin everyone was. He was trying his goddamn best and when Wymack literally had to tackle Kevin in his apartment to calm him down showed us how much pain and fear he was in, how much he had always been in.
He grew up in a cage and he never got the outlet Neil had when he ran, or when Andrew lashed out and got shipped somewhere else. Kevin Day deserved the life he was owed and he finally got it when he went to Palmetto. He finally got to play exy on his own terms, went pro, made the US Court AND got a family- Wymack, Abby, and Thea. Not only them, but the Foxes too. Neil and Andrew, Nicky, Aaron, Dan, Matt, Allison and Renee. He got everything he deserved in the end and yes that is the success story we all needed for him.

(11/30) Recently I explained the concept of dépaysé(e), which literally translates to “de-countried”. Before I learned this word I could never eloquently describe why it always felt so off to be back in Ireland, and how I tend to feel a bit lost and foreign there despite being Irish. It can also be used in a positive context though! You could describe a holiday being great bcs everything felt so different, j’ai été dépaysé(e) ☕️

See, I personally find this quest to find pagan/pre-Christian elements in Welsh/Irish literature quite unnerving - I don't know about anyone else.
There's something to be said about genuinely discovering pre-Christian elements in a narrative or story and that being where evidence and study has led you. But I see some people on this fruitless quest to find pagan elements in very Christian texts and sometimes it feels like if no pagan elements can be found, people start making stuff up out of whole cloth - and that can be very dangerous for already not-well known texts in minoritised languages!
There's already so much misinformation out there about Irish/Welsh texts and literature in general - so it hurts to see people carelessly adding to the misinformation either out of ignorance or lack of respect for the source material.
I promise you the source material being Christian doesn't ruin it - you can in fact, enjoy these myths without making them into something they're not!

Ur comment about Tom watching Antiques Roadshow with fish and chips has got me wondering about what you think the HP characters go to chipper orders are? I’d wager Dumbledore would enjoy a spicebag myself..
i'm genuinely screaming.
dumbledore is one hundo after a spice bag, as are ron and tonks. they are the three people who have made the correct choice.
as for the others...
harry [dursleys] and tom [orphanage] are obviously choosing the plainest option - cod and chips. tom would go in for mushy peas and a packet of benson and hedges alongside his. harry - given his canonical sweet tooth - is getting some sort of deep-fried chocolate bar as a chaser.
hermione [pretentious] is having the thinking woman's fish order - plaice and chips. unless she's been drinking, when she - like ginny - loves a battered sausage for the innuendo potential.
arthur's having scampi, because that seems the most muggle, and a selection of every sauce in the place. molly's having haddock, which she considers respectable, and is being joined in that choice by mcgonagall.
sirius [depressed] is taking the risk on a chipper pie - a gristly steak-and-kidney that's been sitting under a heat lamp all evening, for example. he prefers the rats he ate while living in that cave.
lupin [there] is having plain chips, no sauce or anything.
snape [ill-tempered] is going for one of northern ireland's greatest chip shop creations - a pastie supper. which can - like him, to be quite honest - best be described as a lump of mystery meat.
neville [northern] is obviously having chips and gravy, in fear that his gran would disown him otherwise.
luna [disconnected from reality] is going for the other one of northern ireland's greatest chip shop creations - a cowboy [pronounced coyboy] supper.
any malfoy [posh] is leaving the function and never speaking to you again if you suggest going to the chipper [good]. but narcissa secretly loves a curry butty.
bellatrix [unhinged] is indulging in a habit i didn't realise was unusual until i went to uni in england, and slapping tinned pineapple and thousand-island dressing on top of a portion of chips and calling it "hawaiian".

I was thinking about how our ineffable pair lived a good portion of time in the uk so they are just a hop, skip and a jump away from Ireland.
I decided to do some rough sketches of what I’d have them wear. They both have traditional léine on but Aziraphale’s is lighter and Crowley’s is far darker to fit their looks. Typically they are saffron or white.
Crowley wearing a kilt because she’s always loved being stylish yet out of style, and I’m a sucker for the fact David is Scottish and we’ve always loved our Scottish bros (history probably disagrees but whatever)
Aziraphale is fem presenting here because they always seem to wear things that cover them up quite a lot, it’s what they’re comfortable in. The fem look also just fits his aesthetic more tbh. Also the plaid tartan-esque look is not typical of the time, but I can’t imagine her without it.
I can imagine Crowley being quite Scottish while Aziraphale deals with some moral quandary about penal laws and crime or something idk.
And yes, the embroidery is very intentional.
(Also this is just a sketch so I didn’t try very hard to match either body type, sorry I’m lazy)

Been thinking lately about the term Anglo-Irish. Specifically in the context of notable historical figures such as Oscar Wilde, J. M. Synge, W. B. Yeats, Bram Stoker, Jonathan Swift, Maria Edgeworth, and so many others. We’re so quick to claim that they’re not British that they’re Irish, but it’s not as straight forward as that is it? The same issue arises with notable Northern Irish people. Sometimes it’s clear if they identify as British or Irish, but not always.
Obviously we want to claim the brillance of Anglo-Irish people in history because they came from our home and that is important. But on the other hand, the Anglo-Irish were the ones making waves because of that privilege. That is important too. The Anglo-Irish - as a whole - were generally better off and a higher class than the general Irish population. That can’t be ignored. They become well known and influential outside of Ireland because they have the money and the connections to do that. Many other Irish people were probably as talented but just didn’t get the chance.
A lot of the notable Anglo-Irish people did go over to England and prosper there, which is probably part of the reason that people call them British. But even if their families were well off english landlord types, a lot of them were raised in ireland and that matters.
Wikipedia says
The Anglo-Irish novelist and short story writer Elizabeth Bowen memorably described her experience as feeling "English in Ireland, Irish in England" and not accepted fully as belonging to either.
Many Irish people today have family in the UK. Many of my peers have one British parent or grandparent, myself included. While the countries are separate places and should be treated as such, the people are still messy. I was born in England to an English mother and an English-born Irish father then raised in Ireland. Up until I was 15 or 16 I was a British citizen, then I was imported and now all my documentation says I’m Irish. I don’t consider myself English or British at all. And today, that distinction doesn’t really make much difference. I’m not any better or worse than my neighbours whose family have lived and died in the same area for generations. But historically, for these notable Anglo-Irish people, that distinction did make a difference.
