As much as I adore conlangs, I really like how the Imperial Radch books handle language. The book is entirely in English but you're constantly aware that you're reading a "translation," both of the Radchaai language Breq speaks as default, and also the various other languages she encounters. We don't hear the words but we hear her fretting about terms of address (the beloathed gendering on Nilt) and concepts that do or don't translate (Awn switching out of Radchaai when she needs a language where "citizen," "civilized," and "Radchaai person" aren't all the same word) and noting people's registers and accents. The snatches of lyrics we hear don't scan or rhyme--even, and this is what sells it to me, the real-world songs with English lyrics, which get the same "literal translation" style as everything else--because we aren't hearing the actual words, we're hearing Breq's understanding of what they mean. I think it's a cool way to acknowledge linguistic complexity and some of the difficulties of multilingual/multicultural communication, which of course becomes a larger theme when we get to the plot with the Presgar Translators.

"It's all for making something-Toks to sell your name. (Just for all your vanity, it's the worst, good night.)"
"No way I'm okay with ending it like this! I'm sure what we truly want isn't the money."
Cyberpunk Dead Boy Fuuta!! The second I heard the song, I was like I need to draw him in it right now. Here are the original shots!
Here are some banger versions of the song I listened to!:

for those in the life series fandom but who aren't on tiktok here is what has been happening the last few days/weeks over there:
1. A music artist does a video on the names of playlists that their song is in
2. In the video maybe 2 life series playlists appear
3. The comments are full of "GOODTIMESWITHSCAR MENTION?!?!" or "NO WAY LIFE SERIES MENTION??"
4. So the artist makes another few videos with a few focused on specifically the life series and one specific song of theirs
5. The fans are still going wild in the comments AND CONVINCE THE ARTIST TO WATCH 3RD LIFE
6. It seems from other posts they have watched 3rd life from DESERT DUO POV
7. Today I see on their story that they are watching third life from the pov of FLOWER HUSBANDS
I am not dumb, I know this is a marketing scheme, HOWEVER worst case, if they are absolutely just watching bits of 3rd life, if not the full series, just to get more views, then that is funnier than any other explanation
I like to think they are ACTUALLY enjoying it, as its their 3rd pov watching
Evidence above ^ the artist is called Sparkbird and they go by they/them in case anyone is curious

“And you, Theon,” she added, when Greyjoy lingered. He smiled and left then. […] “You might have given the command to any of them. Gods be good, you might even have sent Theon, though he would have not been my choice.”
Can we just admit Throbb is canon and Cat knew about them?! Because she didn’t have ANY reason to nominate Theon in that conversation except that she knew that if Robb had to chose someone else to relent the comment of his army to that person would have been the one he trusted the most, aka Theon.
They are sooooo boyfriends coded!

Chonny's very first song vs his most recent song
Instrumental Links:
backlit by moonlight. [There is no official isolated instrumental so you'd just have to listen to the song & ignore the lyrics. Blame CJ/j]
