I can't stop thinking how good of a friendship and work-ship (?) L and Aizawa would have had if they had met differently. Aizawa has those traits that L needs in a person that works with him and even in a friend, and his "shortcomings" can easily be compensated by L's traits and viceversa.

Aizawa is hot headed and ready to jump in the action immediately, whereas L is more cold headed and thinks carefully about any negative side effect an action may have, and stops anyone from acting carelessly (this is shown when Ukita died).

Aizawa is a family man, and L is an orphan (who cares for Aizawa's family too).

Aizawa doesn't trust people easily, and L is quite obsessed with earning the trust of others. He has to work the extra mile to get him on his side, but imagine how rewarding that must be for him. Also, it shows that Aizawa isn't a fool who believes anyone and anything, which L definitely likes.

L literally says that he likes people like Aizawa, so there's that.

Aizawa is not afraid to stand up to L and call him out, when he is being a jerk, and it's something so important, because no one is ever there to do that to L. Everyone does what L says, so it's nice to see someone that is willing to go against him, while standing in front of him, because his title as the world's greatest detective shouldn't make people believe he's a perfect person, a god and untouchable.

And we can't deny that, at the end of the day, Aizawa is stunned by L's abilities. He may not like his antics, but he is definitely impressed by how such a young individual accomplished so much.

Out of curiosity how far along are you on the cheating buddie fic bc I just read the new snippet and now I want to like bang my head against the wall or smth. Istg I can't stand cheating fics and I keep thinking that I probably won't read this one either but then you post a snippet and I'm like internally shrieking so considering my lack of self discipline I definitely will be dropping everything to read it as soon as you post it

oooh, i'm nearly 20k in, so i'd say i'm about... halfway done as far as actual prose goes, but i have a very thorough outline + a lot of rough dialogue written out, so i'm guessing i'll be posting it sometime within the next four weeks! i have to say it's been a lot heavier to write than i thought it would be, and it'll be heavy to read, but i think that's something this fandom will appreciate when it comes to this topic <3 (they end up together, don't worry - but it's certainly a bumpy road.)

Have finished DR2 main story.

I feel underwhelmed? by the ending?

Like. The idea that they'll be erased and returned to Ultimate Despair absolutely sucks. But in the absence of Alter Ego Junko, they could just. go back in the virtual world and start over. Whatever brought back Hajime the first time would bring him back again. Etc. There's not much threat in that to me.

(I know they would still lose this particular version of themselves, this particular Hajime. But like. That's what Makoto + co. already did when they threw them into Neo World in the first place. They made a decision to lose those particular versions of the Remnants, to erase them. I just. Meh.)

Also. Izuru uploaded Alter Ego Junko into the system, sure. (However he got access to it to do that.) But like. Alter Ego Junko is on a flash drive or floppy disc or etc. that he can carry around with him, so like. Again. They didn't kill Alter Ego Junko. They'd have to destroy the floppy disc/flash drive/whatever with her on it to do that. They just killed this particular version of her.

And y'all are dumb leaving them on the island with the access to Neo World when they still have that Alter Ego Junko saved somewhere. How do you know they're not still Ultimate Despair? How do you know they won't still overwrite other people with her? (Or upload multiple copies of Junko into Neo World and play Sims with them?)

I also don't particularly like the swing of Makoto talking about Junko as absolute irredeemable despair when he literally at the end of the first game after everything reached out and invited her to leave with them. There's such a whiplash there where it's suddenly we have hope for everyone but not Junko because that bitch is beyond saving that I. Like. Understandably after finding out everything that Ultimate Despair has been doing in her name in the rest of the world could color their opinions a lot, but the idea of you people are the absolute worst people ever because of Junko and we just got to erase her despair virus from you and then you'll be great because Junko's just fucked and makes everyone fucked feels. Idk.

And like. We should return to Izuru and "She used me to do shit and now I'm gonna use her to do shit" because that just. gets dropped? doesn't get examined? at all?

Further. If Alter Ego Junko could give Mikan her memories back. And all of the Remnants were on board with being used to bring Junko back. Why didn't she give all of them their memories back because they totally would have agreed to graduate then? She had the power to do that! And didn't!

Junko do you not want to win. I feel like you don't want to win.

I just have so many problems with some of the bigger concepts of this game and how they play out at the ending. And I'm. Mmmmmmm about it.
