I saw that today's prompt for @adrinetteapril is "pancakes", and I couldn't resist... Based on the Crêpes chapter of Friends who cook together... (in which Adrien almost loses his eyebrows from being a little heavy-handed with the Grand Marnier for his crêpes flambées)

Fanfiction Prompt
"Did you know that when a cat slow blinks or winks at you, that it means they're content and sense no danger from you?" Marinette, Adrien and Nino looked up from their lunch to look at Alya, who was scrolling away on her phone. "Babe, I love you, but why are you looking up cat facts?" asked Nino. "Because," she began, looking over her phone at them, "Chat Noir has some cat tendencies, right?" "He does?" Adrien asked, looking somewhere between surprised, shocked and confused. "Yeah dude! Just look at the way he runs about - he literally moves like a cat!" "I swear I've heard him purr before," Marinette mused. "Oh my god, that's adorable!" Alya gushed, before collecting herself. "Anyway, point is, I wanted to know if there was anything else cat-like he does, like slow blinks, jump high when spooked, see better in the dark, roll over for belly rubs-" "Again, babe - why?" "I want to know if it's him putting it on or if it's something to do with the Miraculous! And if it's the latter, what could be true for other Miraculous holders?" Alya exclaimed. "Imagine if we could lure Hawk Moth out of hiding with a UV light or something!" - Marinette couldn't get Alya's questions out of her head when she got home, so she decided to research, come up with a list of behaviours and tick off the ones she knew were true and cross off the ones that weren't, and so far the ticks outweighed the crosses. She started to recall the instances of Chat's cat-like moments, and started to imagine what Chat would look like rolling over for a belly rub, purring in delight with his tail languidly swishing against the floor underneath him. He would look ridiculously adorable- "Princess?" Chat's voice broke her out of her daydream, making her jump in her seat and spin to see his head poking through her skylight. "Are you okay? I've been calling at you for a few minutes now." Feeling bold, she held his gaze for a moment before slow-blinking. He returned it. "I'm fine, cat."

Tales of Bloody Bug and Chat Noir - Chapter 22 - Despair Bear
Beginning || Previous || Next
            Alix skated around the skate park around other skaters. She kept her eyes forward, but occasionally glanced over at Nino and Adrien, careful not to let them see it was her. She had been there since early afternoon when they hadn’t arrived more than half an hour ago. She wondered where Kagami was, but she imagined Adrien snuck out. He’s developed a habit of it since meeting Kagami, and when she showed him how she got over the walls of his mansion.
            Alix paused for a moment and watched Nino try to teach Adrien how to skate. She cringed at the process, like teaching a newborn to walk. She shook her head and turned away when she saw them check their phones.
            Alix raised a brow and stopped when she got a message. She pulled out her phone and saw a message from Adrien, inviting her to a party thrown by Chloe. She curled her lips back into a sneer, pulled down her hood, and approached Adrien and Nino.
            “Hey, what’s the meaning of this?” Alix demanded.
            “Yo, Alix, didn’t know you were here, my dude,” Nino remarked.
            “Uh, that was the point? Anyway, what the hell? Why would you send this to me?”
            “Oh, Chloe asked that I send it to you. She said she wants our entire grade there tonight at the party, including you,” Adrien answered.
            “Look, I can believe a lot of stuff that comes from you, but I honestly can’t believe that. Why would Chloe want me there?” Alix asked.
            “I have to agree, dude. Are you sure you read that message right?”
            Adrien nodded and showed Nino and Alix the message. Alix’s jaw dropped when she saw Adrien was being honest about Chloe’s intentions.
            “Fuck,” Alix hissed.
            “What are you going to do? Will you come?” Adrien asked.
            Alix sighed and pulled down on her eyelids. “Fine! I’ll… I’ll at least try.”
            “Awesome! We’ll see you then, Alix,” Adrien cheered.
            Alix forced a smile while she waved goodbye to Adrien and Nino. She dropped her smile and pulled up her hood as Tikki and Stompp poked out from it.
            “Are you sure this is a good idea? Don’t you have history with Chloe?” Tikki asked.
            “Well, yes, but… I don’t know.”
            “I don’t think it’s a bad idea, Tikki. Shouldn’t Alix give Chloe a second chance? She has as Bloody Bug, so why not Alix?” Stompp pointed out.
            “If she does that, she needs to give others second chances too,” Tikki remarked.
            Alix glared at Tikki and skated out of the park towards home. “I don’t have to give anyone a second chance if I’m not willing, Tikki. Chloe is… not Marinette. Chloe didn’t use me. Chloe never made me feel welcomed just to make everyone turn on me. Chloe wasn’t the monster, I was. And… and it should fall on me to make things right, shouldn’t it?”
            “Yes,” Tikki and Stompp said.
            “Just like with Marinette,” Tikki pointed out.
            “I disagree. That Marinette girl was rude for accepting the akuma and hurting Alix when Alix didn’t do anything,” Stompp countered.
            “Maybe, but forgiveness needs to start somewhere. Someone needs to be the better person and teach the other the error of their ways. You’re willing to do it with Chloe, why not Marinette?” Tikki challenged.
            Alix opened her mouth, then shook her head. “Can we drop this? I just want to head home, get ready, and get this party done and over with.”
            Tikki sighed and slipped back into the hoodie while Stompp remained.
            “Yes, Stompp?”
            “Huh? Oh, I’m just comfy.”
            Alix chuckled and headed back home to get ready.
~~
            Alix arrived at Le Grand Paris with Adrien, Kagami, and Nino. She kept her head pulled up as she looked around the room. Every kid in their grade appeared to be here, including Marinette, Alya, Mylene, Juleka, and Rose.
            “Oh, no,” Alix groaned.
            “You’ll stay near me, right?” Adrien asked.
            “Come on, dude, it’s just the girls. Nothing to be scared of, dude,” Nino butted in.
            “But-!” Adrien started.
            Nino grabbed Adrien’s wrist and dragged him towards the girls. Adrien reached out to grab Alix, but she stepped back out of his reach. He turned back as she shot him an apologetic look before he vanished into the crowd. She sighed and moved away from everyone towards a wall when something pulled her sleeve. She turned, expecting to see anyone, but saw Luka.
            “What the-? Why are you here? Don’t you have problem with these things?” Alix asked.
            “I… I’ve been… getting better?” Luka hesitated.
            Alix raised a brow when she saw the noise-cancelling headphones around Luka’s neck. “Right. Don’t you think this is a little much, even if you’re getting better?”
            “M-maybe, but… I wanted to-,” Luka started.
            “Attention, everyone! Welcome to this humble party I’ve so generously put together for all of you! Eat, drink, dance, or whatever it is you do, you have a great time!” Chloe announced.
            The partygoers all cheered and moved around. Alix spied some headed into the elevator. She trotted towards the elevator when Luka pulled on her sleeve again.
            “What do you want?” Alix asked.
            “Could I… could I tag along with you?”
            “Me? Why? Your twin’s here. Why not hide behind her?”
            Luka stumbled through his words as his eyes darted towards them and a blush crawled onto his cheeks.
            “Hold up, do you like one of them?”
            Luka’s eyes widened, he pursed his lips, and shook his head in a panic.
            “You’re a terrible liar, Couffaine. Which one is it? Alya? Rose? Mylene?”
            Luka didn’t answer.
            “Marinette?”
            Luka’s blush deepened as he looked away.
            “Eww, why her?”
            Luka fidgeted. “She’s very pretty and nice.”
            Alix rolled her eyes. “Whatever. Do what you want, Luka. I’m heading somewhere that isn’t here with everyone.”
            Alix headed into the elevator with Luka following her. She headed up to the restaurant floor where it was cleared of the dining tables and chairs to make way for a plasma with a game station set up, a ball pit, and a DJ booth. She spotted Nino already at the DJ booth while everyone else danced.
            “So… this, uh, this looks fun, right?” Luka attempted.
            Alix snorted. “Looks like a headache.”
            Luka grimaced and looked away. Alix broke away up to the bar top where refreshments were set out. She reached for one when she heard a loud bang. She turned towards the door to see Chloe stormed in with Sabrina behind her. Chloe stopped dead when she saw Alix. Alix sighed, pulled her hood more over her face, and looked away. Luka moved beside Alix between her and Chloe.
            “Is… everything alright?”
            “Yeah. Just… just preparing myself.”
            “For what?”
            “Kubdel,” Chloe said.
            Alix sighed. She looked up at Chloe and Sabrina. “Can I help you?”
            “Are you… are you enjoying yourself?”
            “It’s… tolerable.”
            Chloe nodded and left. Sabrina gave a thumbs up and followed Chloe.
            “That was… different. I thought you two, y’know, hated each other,” Luka pointed out.
            “It’s… complicated.”
            Alix sighed and rested her head on the bar top. Luka hesitated as he reached out for her shoulder when the music shifted from club music to slow dance.
            “What the hell?” Alix remarked.
            Alix turned as everyone on the dance floor paired off. She spotted Alya and Nino, Juleka and Rose, and Kim with a reluctant Chloe.
            “I didn’t realize Nino and Alya were together,” Luka commented.
            “I could care less about them. How long have Juleka and Rose been together?”
            “Uh… I’m not sure.”
            “You’re her brother. How do you not know?”
            Luka shrank back and looked away.
            “Sorry. Forget I asked. Hey, why don’t you take a chance and ask Marinette to dance?”
            Luka’s eyes lit up. He turned and scanned the room, then shrank back again. “I don’t think I can.”
            Alix furrowed her brow and looked around. Anger flared when she saw Marinette drag a reluctant Adrien onto the floor as he led her in a slow dance. She glanced around for Kagami but didn’t see Kagami.
            “Where the fuck is his babysitter? Why isn’t she stopping this?” Alix hissed.
            “Babysitter?” Luka asked.
            “Nevermind. I need-!”
            Tikki peeked over Alix’s shoulder in the hood. “Don’t rush in! Be smart about this. We don’t need to cause any, well, you know.”
            Alix sneered and looked back at the dance floor. She noticed Adrien and Marinette stealing attention of the dancers as the floor was cleared for them. She looked over at Chloe, who glared daggers at Marinette, but remained with Kim.
            “I have an idea. Stay here,” Alix whispered.
            Alix pulled her hoodie off, rolled it up, gave it to Luka, and headed over to Kim and Chloe. She kicked Kim in the groin and sent him crumbling to the floor. Everyone gasped around her and jumped back. She took a deep breath and offered her hand to Chloe.
            “Will you do me the honor of leading you through this dance?” Alix asked.
            All eyes fell on Chloe. Chloe looked up, gulped, and reached out a shaky hand. Chloe placed it down in Alix’s. Alix stifled a grimace as she felt Chloe’s still trembling hand. Painful memories surfaced that Alix pushed back down. Alix took a deep breath as she pulled Chloe closer, placed a hand under Chloe’s right arm on her back, and took Chloe’s left hand in her own.
            Alix took a breath before she led Chloe in a waltz. Chloe struggled with the steps until she got ahold of them. Alix had trouble with twirling Chloe as part of the dance with Chloe being a head taller, but Chloe worked with her. Alix kept her eyes on Chloe but glanced aside at Adrien and Marinette.
            Adrien and Marinette’s dance had stopped their dance to watch Alix and Chloe. Adrien’s eyes were wide and sparkled in admiration while Marinette was dumbfounded. Alix allowed herself a smirk until she caught a glimpse of Luka, whose eyes were wide in awe with a slight blush as he stared at Alix. A feeling gnawed at the back of Alix’s mind, but she ignored it as she dipped Chloe and finished the dance.
            Alix bowed while everyone gawked at her. She sat back beside Luka as she put her hoodie back on. She looked over at the door and saw Kagami reappear, putting her phone away. She relaxed when Kagami took her place beside Adrien, warding off Marinette. She smiled, stood, and headed for the elevator when Chloe ran up and grabbed her arm.
            “Wait! I… you aren’t leaving, are you?”
            “I think I’ve had my fill already, Chloe. I’d rather leave now before you-.”
            “Don’t go. I did all this to talk with you,” Chloe admitted.
            “What are you talking about?”
            “I wanted to talk to you, Alix, but I couldn’t think of any other way to, well, talk to you.”
            “I knew it! I knew there was no way Chloe could be nice!” Marinette cheered.
            Everyone murmured as they all shot Chloe side glances. Chloe’s lips curled back in a snarl and her hands balled into fists.
            “I never said I was trying to be nice. I’m just trying to be better, and that doesn’t mean I have to be nice to everyone. I don’t care about you. I don’t care about any of you guys except Adrikins, Sabrina, and Bloody Bug,” Chloe declared.
            “What’s the point of trying to be better if you’re not going to be nicer?” Marinette challenged.
            “Because… because I don’t have to be. If I don’t like someone, I don’t have to be nice, but I don’t have to be mean either. I can still be me and still be better.”
            Alya scoffed. “Yeah right. Where would you get a notion such as that?”
            “Bloody Bug.”
            Alix’s eyes widened as fear and anxiety tore through her.
            “Please, how would Bloody Bug give you such a notion?” Alya demanded.
            “Because I’ve seen her for who she is. She may be a hero, but she’s still a person. She’s… she’s flawed. She’s not some perfect, untouchable hero, but a deeply flawed person. She has her moments of blinding rage that hurts people. I mean, really hurts. However, she can also be fun, energetic, and compassionate. She has baggage, just like the rest of us,” Chloe explained.
            Everyone exchanged confused glances with each other and Chloe. Alix frowned as guilt mingled with the anxiety.
            “I don’t believe that. Bloody Bug is a hero. There’s no way she’s just like any of us,” Alya remarked.
            Chloe opened her mouth, but Sabrina stepped in the way.
            “And that’s why Chloe is better. She recognizes this fact, unlike someone like you who actively stalks the hero to unveil her identity. Don’t you stop to think of the dangers of that and how compromising it is?” Sabrina challenged.
            “It’s not that big of a deal. Besides, I bet she could take out the enemy, even with her identity revealed.”
            Alix shook her head. She had heard enough. Alya, Marinette, Sabrina, and Chloe continued their argument, but she headed out. She crossed over to the elevator as Chloe’s butler ran into the restaurant. Curiosity struck her, but she pushed it away. She entered the elevator as her hand hovered over the panel. She considered leaving but didn’t want to just yet. She did need some quiet, so she headed up to the roof. She heard her name called out as the doors shut. She wondered who it was but ignored it and leaned against the wall.
            Alix watched the numbers go up until she was at the rooftop. She stepped out to the empty pool and sat along the edge. Tikki and Stompp flew out from her hood and hovered in front of her.
            “Alix? Are you ok?” Tikki asked.
            “I don’t know. A lot just happened a moment ago. I’m still processing it all.”
            “Should we be worried that Chloe knows who Bloody Bug is?” Stompp asked.
            “I mean, Bloody Bug and Chat Noir know, so it can’t be too bad, right? Besides, Adrien is down there, hopefully helping with the situation,” Tikki remarked.
            “Or getting out like he should,” Stompp muttered.
            “Anyway, Alix, how are you feeling?” Tikki asked.
            “I don’t know. Confused? Angry? Sad? Confused? I mean, Chloe clearly had been talking with Sabrina to come to all those points. There’s no way she would have on her own without Sabrina’s help. Which means she’s listening to others, which is good. However, that might be part of it.”
            “What do you mean?” Stompp asked.
            “I dunno, but hearing Alya say that Bloody Bug couldn’t be like any normal person just… I dunno. It hit different. I know what she meant, that Bloody Bug can’t be flawed, but it just hit different.
            Tikki and Stompp exchanged glances. Tikki opened her mouth when Alix’s phone buzzed. Alix checked it to see a message from Adrien about Chloe’s butler being akumatized and turned into a teddy bear that could control people and was targeting Chloe. Alix groaned and rolled her eyes while Tikki and Stompp read the text.
            “I don’t want to deal with this nonsense,” Alix complained.
            “Hey, at least with Blood Shell, it’ll be quick and painless,” Stompp pointed out.
            Alix rolled her eyes and growled. “Alright, let’s get this over with. Tikki, Stompp, unify.”
            Tikki and Stompp flew into their respective jewels and transformed Alix into Blood Shell.
            Blood Shell heaved herself up and back downstairs. She walked into the restaurant to see the utter chaos of everyone running around while the teddy bear took control of people by grabbing their leg. She rolled her eyes, activated her armor, and whistled.
            “Hey, chew toy!” Blood Shell yelled.
            The teddy bear stopped and turned to Blood Shell. It ran up to her, grabbed her leg, but nothing happened. It tapped her leg, and she reached down, grabbed it, and tore the head off the bear. The Akuma flew up, then back down to the mace as it lit up. It purified and flew away as a white butterfly. Everyone blinked and then cheered while Blood Shell grumbled and left. She headed for the stairs and up to the roof again.
            Blood Shell stepped back into the cool night air. She headed for the railing but stopped herself. She knew where she would head. She would go to the cemetery where her mother’s grave was. She’d be alone for a little while until Alim or Adrien came looking for her. The idea was enticing to have people around her help her, but not this time. She just wanted to be left alone.
            Blood Shell curled into a ball and rolled back into the empty pool. She held her knees tight as she let everything surface before it all came crashing down.

Getting Answers
Ladybug felt dizzy. Ready to collapse any moment. She resisted all urge to ask herself if this timeline could get any worse. The last thing she needed was to break down, or for the universe to show that it could, in fact, get worse.
“No,” she muttered. “No, no, Nino is not—”
“You know what?! Fuck you, Marinette!” Shoving her middle finger in the air, Rena Rouge turned around and jumped down to the street, letting out a battle cry.
Meanwhile, Ladybug finally fell to her knees. Nino is dead, she thought over and over again. She could not imagine a universe without her shield. She thought back to all the missing numbers in her contacts. Were all the missing numbers dead friends?
Ladybug shook her head, pushing those thoughts away. That didn’t matter, because once she was done with these villains, she would turn everything back to normal. And Nino would be alive and well again. And Alya wouldn’t hate her. And Adrien would be her fiancé once again.
“Lucky Charm!” she yelled with determination. On her hands landed a very long HDMI cable. Her eyes scanned the giant monster and noticed the two television sets it used for eyes. “Got it. Don’t worry Nino, I will bring you back even if—”
BEEP BEEP
She jumped several inches in the air at the unexpected sound coming from her earrings. A sound she hadn’t heard in over a year.
“What the hell?!” she questioned. “I’m an adult, why is this beeping?! Ugh, whatever, I can do it under—”
“LOOK OUT!”
A black blur collided against her torso, just in time to avoid a falling refrigerator. She had been so distracted by the beeping miraculous, she forgot the sentimonster was still hurtling equipment all over the city. Ladybug used the cable she had just gotten to grab a lamppost and slow down their fall from the building. A fall she suspected whoever saved her would not survive.
They landed hard on the sidewalk, but not hard enough to break any bones. And lucky for her rescuer, they landed right on top of her. It wasn’t until then that she noticed whoever it was, they were wearing a hoodie and a facemask. It had to be that other person Tikki mentioned.
“Thank you for the—”
The person in black grabbed the HDMI cable and threw it as far as they could, right before they got up and started sprinting towards the sentimonster. Ladybug blinked.
“Gah! You hate me too?!” she complained, still laying on her back on the concrete. “Ugh, does anyone like me in this timeline?”
With a long, frustrated sigh, she got on her feet, taking hold of the cable. Although that had been rude, it seemed their only intention had been to slow her down for only a moment. Why they did it, she had no clue. She only hoped they wouldn’t get in her way.
As she reached the sentimonster again, she noticed Rena Rouge was back on the creature’s shoulder, fighting the akuma. Meanwhile, on the ground, the person—a man, she finally deduced—in black was leading people out of a building nearby. One woman grabbed him by the arms, seemingly hysterical. Apparently, someone was still stuck somewhere because the man in black ran into the building.
She had to do this fast, before Hawkmoth or Mayura decided to call back their champions, and all their efforts would be for nothing.
Ladybug jumped from ledge to ledge, up the monster, directly towards the akuma. She didn’t even bother to ask Rena Rouge for any kind of help. She wouldn’t get it anyway. So she slammed against the akuma, bringing her to one of the sentimonster’s ‘eyes.’ With the cable, she wrapped the akuma against the popping television and used the ruler she had to break the screen of the other one.
The sentimonster let out a loud scream and that was when she saw it: a raspberry pi inside the creature’s mouth, blue with the peacock logo on it. Without missing a beat, Ladybug dove into it, much like she did with the T-Rex in her first year as a superhero. Except that the sentimonster was not very keen on eating her. Just as her fingers wrapped around the small box, the sentimonster grabbed her and pulled her away.
The giant hand slammed against a building, demolishing almost an entire apartment living room. As the infected object flew from Ladybug’s hand, she heard a scream. She whipped her head to see the man in black with his leg pinned by bricks and debris… and the raspberry pi right next to him.
“Hey, HEY!” she called. The man turned his gaze to her while grunting and panting. “Are you okay? Can you hear me?” He nodded. “Okay. I need you to break that little box at the same time as I break this ruler. Can you do that?”
The man nodded again, taking a sword attached to his waist, and holding it with the hilt of it above the object. Meanwhile, Ladybug grabbed both ends of the ruler, yet waited for Rena Rouge to dislodge the television the akuma was trapped in. As soon as she saw the vigilante about to take a running jump with the victim, she turned back to the man.
“On my count,” she said, as he nodded in agreement. “One, two, THREE!”
SNAP
CRACK
The butterfly and the feather were instantly swept by Ladybug’s yoyo and released, purified. As the sentimonster disappeared in a blue mist, Ladybug wrapped her weapon on a rod pocking out of the broken building, and swung towards the open apartment, landing in what Nino liked calling a ‘superhero landing,’ with a knee and a fist on the ground.
Dammit, Nino, she thought, still not believing what Alya said. She shook her head and stood up, hoping everything would be fixed in a moment.
“Whoa,” someone near her breathed. Ladybug turned to find the man in black staring at her, with a shine in his eyes. She frowned at his reaction, not used to citizens being amazed by her anymore. She had been Ladybug for years, after all.
Either way, she shrugged and gave him a quick smile, before turning back to the giant hole, looking for Rena Rouge.
“I’ll fix you right up in a sec,” she told the man as she saw the HDMI cable lying on the street. No Rena Rouge and no victim to be found. One swing later, she was standing above it on the pavement, and a thought occurred to her: Was this the answer to her troubles?
Ladybug looked at the Lucky Charm in her hands. This had to be it.
“Miraculous Ladybug!” she shouted, throwing the object as hard as she could into the air. It burst into millions of ladybugs that started spreading around the city. Ladybug closed her eyes, hoping it would work.
She felt the rush of magic flow through her, and immediately opened her eyes.
Ladybug was still standing on the street. The debris was gone, people were healed, and the building was fixed. Everything went back to normal. Only it was this other reality’s ‘normal.’
“Shit,” she cussed under her breath. Truth be told, she had known it was a long shot. Neither of the villains she had just fought caused the shift of reality. If she wanted that fixed, she needed to find The Genie and defeat her.
“Thank you, Ladybug!” A young woman suddenly had her arms wrapped around her, making her stumble. “Thank you for saving everyone! I can’t remember the last time you fixed the whole city!”
“It’s my job—Wait, what do you mean—”
BEEP BEEP
She cursed again as her earrings gave their final warning and started prying herself free from the random woman, along with several other citizens. In the process, she scanned the area for nearby hiding places, catching a faraway glimpse of orange leaving the scene. She also managed to briefly lock eyes with the man in black, having exited the building fully recovered, and gave her a two-fingered salute before running off.
Finally, Ladybug found a spot just in time to swing away from prying eyes and detransform. Marinette let out an exhausted sigh as she slid against the wall of the alley, a cleaner one than the previous.
“I can’t remember the last time I had such a hard time in battle,” she panted. “I do not miss the damn timer.”
“How did you do that?!” Tikki asked, floating up to her face. “How did you fix everything?!”
Marinette stared at the kwami, baffled by the question. “I-I—I defeated both villains, that’s how I fixed it. How do you not know that? It was in the Grim—” She gasped. “Of course you don’t know! If Adrien was not Chat Noir, then he didn’t have Plagg, meaning Plagg wasn’t able to phase through the safe, and so Adrien never got the Grimoire and took it to school, for us to steal and take it to Master Fu.” She took a deep inhale. “No wonder everything is so messed up! Adrien was such an integral part for defeating Hawkmoth, not just as Chat Noir.”
“You really are from a different timeline!” Tikki said in awe. “There’s so much we need to talk about. We could finally win! And get my friends back!”
“We definitely do,” Marinette agreed. “Hopefully we can figure out a way to restore my reality. Before that, though, I am starving. We should get some breakfast, especially for you. Wanna get something from the bakery?”
Tikki cringed. “Uuum…”
Marinette’s shoulders slumped.
“What now?”
***
Don’t say it, Marinette thought as she stood in front of the building. She could feel her hand slightly shake. Her heartbeat thumped against her ears. Don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it.
“SERIOUSLY?!” she yelled anyway. “WHY? HOW?!”
“Insurance didn’t cover magical damage,” Tikki lamented, as if it was the most normal thing to see her childhood memories abandoned. Tattered and destroyed. “And they simply couldn’t afford to fix it.”
“But moving to China?!” Marinette said in a shrill only dogs could hear. Going by what Tikki told her when they arrived there. “We have so many friends, we could’ve raised the money.”
“A lot of them were dealing with the same thing,” Tikki explained. “And the city won’t hurry up in approving the Akuma Damage Control Fund. So, they felt they didn’t have much of a choice.”
“I can’t believe I let this happen,” she breathed, looking at the damaged building.
All the windows of the bakery had been blown. There was a giant hole on the third floor, with a plain view to the tattered living room, with wind swaying whatever was left hanging from the walls and ceiling. However, a lot of the pictures and other personal belongings were missing. Probably salvaged by her parents.
Marinette took a shaky breath, as she dared to step through the broken front door. The ground was littered with squashed boxes, torn paper bags, and dirt covering the bakery’s logo on the trash. Most of the glass displays were also broken. And if not, they were at least cracked. Deep in the kitchen, she could see a giant robotic hand that seemed to have been propelled like a rocket. The fridge and oven were crushed by it, rendering them useless.
The place was simply unrecognizable.
“I can’t go upstairs,” she said quietly, already feeling the tug of anxiety attempting to drown her. “I can’t. This is…”
“Marinette?” Tikki whispered.
The woman tugged on her jacket, her breaths having a hard time getting through her nostrils. After several failed attempts at steading herself, she turned away and marched out the horrid building. She could hear Tikki calling her name, but she couldn’t stop.
“I need to fix this. Now.” Marinette said at last, rendering the kwami quiet. She then frowned. “But where do I even begin?”
***
It took a mile long walk and mindlessly buying mediocre macarons from the first place she found for Marinette to finish processing the fact that her life was one giant tragedy in this timeline. Even her parents were gone, living far enough that she couldn’t even call them without spending euros she didn’t have.
She refused to live in a world this messed up.
That was why she headed straight to the place that was her apartment in that timeline. After a quick shower and a change of clothes, Marinette cleared out the large corkboard nearby her desk and started printing pictures of all the people she knew, plus created drawings of every miraculous.
“What are you doing?” Tikki asked, inspecting each drawing.
“If I want to find The Genie, I need to know everything about this timeline,” Marinette explained. “Who are my allies, who are my enemies, what else was affected by Chat Noir’s absence, who’s still around, who’s gone. Everything. Maybe I can find a pattern, or a person who’s not supposed to be around, suddenly showing up in my life.” She sighed. “This would be easier if I had Alya.”
“We could try to convince her about the situation,” Tikki suggested. “She hates Hawkmoth and Mayura, and I think she would do anything to change things.”
“That’s a good call,” Marinette agreed. “Good thing she’s still Rena Rouge in this timeline. Even if she looks and acts different. The fact that I still have you means she doesn’t hate me enough to turn evil.” Marinette started her project by pinning Alya’s and Rena Rouge’s photos side by side. Underneath it, she placed a paper with the word ‘Ally’ on it. She then remembered the drawings and placed the Fox necklace between the two pictures.
“Okay, so that’s Alya,” she said. Her attention then turned to a blurry picture of the man who broke the amok. “What about the guy in black? Who was that?”
“That was the mysterious sidekick I told you about,” Tikki pointed out as Marinette placed the picture on the corkboard. “He started showing up about two years ago.”
“Clearly he can tell I’m way over my head here.”
“He’s actually been very helpful. Whether it’s getting people to safety or fighting a few minions.”
“I see.” Marinette leaned towards the picture and squinted. “How is it that I don’t know this guy’s identity after two years?”
“You decided attachments were not good for hero work, after what happened to Carapace.”
Marinette’s gaze lowered, her hands slowing rising to hold her arms.
“I still can’t believe this reality doesn’t have a Nino anymore,” she said quietly, shutting her eyes. “But I can’t dwell on that too much. Once I find that akuma and purify it, everything will go back to normal, and Nino will be alive again.”
“How can you be sure that you didn’t simply lose your mind?” Tikki asked again.
“If there’s anything I’ve learned fighting all these years, it’s that anything is possible with akumas. But most importantly, as Ladybug I can’t lose hope. If I lose hope, I lose my will to keep fighting. And that’s just no good for anyone.”
“You really are a whole other Marinette.”
The woman opened her eyes to stare at her small friend. It really unnerved her every time she heard about this universe’s Marinette. It almost sounded like she was an awful person. Or simply too broken to function.
“Explain to me one thing,” she said. “How exactly did I end up with a swimsuit as my superhero suit?”
“Well…” Tikki sighed, as if about to spread someone else’s secrets. Even if it was the person to whom the secrets belonged to. “My Marinette was very much a people pleaser. After her failure with Stoneheart, despite the fact that she beat him in the end, she was always worried about what the city thought of her. As she got older, one of the many critics against her was her outfit. Some said that it was too conservative, others said that it looked like a kid’s pajamas, and among other…nastier things. So, she tried to please them, while trying to look more adult. She thought the heels would help with that.”
“Oh, no wonder the other me was such a mess,” Marinette commented. “If I were to listen and follow every critic out there, I wouldn’t even be able to use my yo-yo, because it was considered ‘too violent’ by a group of parents in my universe.”
“My Marinette was actually considering it…”
She slammed a hand to her face. “And I thought I was a mess of a person.”
Tikki giggled. It was the first time Marinette had even seen her smile since she got to this new reality.
“You’re kind of funny,” she said.
Marinette smiled. “Thanks. I try. And learned from the funniest guy I know, even if his jokes are awful and so badly timed.”
“If his jokes are awful, how are they funny?”
“I ask myself the same question every day.” Marinette let out a wistful sigh, as the image of Chat Noir crossed her mind. She shook her head. “Anyway, we need to get back on task. We can assume that the sidekick is an ally, right?” Tikki nodded. The blurry image was moved near Alya’s pictures. As she was about to reach for the miraculouses drawings, a realization dawned on her. “He doesn’t have a miraculous, does he?”
“No,” Tikki confirmed. “It’s why we called him a sidekick. He’s mostly just decently agile and good with a sword.”
“Yeah,” Marinette said, with a hand on her chin as she remembered the beauty of that estoc sword the man carried. Adrien would’ve drooled over a sword like that. “I still think it’s very dangerous for someone without a miraculous to be out there during attacks. Even if it’s mostly as crowd control. If it hadn’t been for the miraculous cure, he’d have a broken leg right now.”
“What are you saying?”
“I just need to talk to him,” she said. “I need to make sure he doesn’t take unnecessary risks. I can’t have a civilian endangering his life like that. We at least need a few rules and communication. And less throwing my Lucky Charms away. Why did he do that, anyway?”
“You’ve tried stopping him from helping in the past,” Tikki explained. “He’ll save you, but he’ll also slow you down from catching him. But not enough to disrupt your job as Ladybug.”
“Funny way of showing it,” Marinette muttered. “Even so…” The word ‘Ally’ was placed underneath his picture. “He might be a good candidate for the one miraculous we have. Though, I think the dragon miraculous would’ve fit him better. Maybe even the black cat’s, but we don’t exactly have many choices here.”
She pinned the drawing of the bee miraculous close to his picture, but not overlapping with it, since he still wasn’t officially a miraculous holder, and she had other choices to go through.
“Okay, so those are all the miraculouses outside of Hawkmoth and Mayura’s hands, right?”
“Plus the turtle miraculous,” Tikki added. “We think Alya kept it, but we’re not sure.”
“Okay, the turtle,” Marinette muttered, placing the drawing of said miraculous near Alya’s pictures. Also nearby she placed a picture of Nino. One that was clearly around three years old. With a trembling hand, she placed one word underneath him: Deceased. “We’ll get you back, Nino. I promise you.”
“I really hope you’re right,” Tikki said quietly. “I miss Plagg so much.”
“Me too,” Marinette said with a sniff, wiping a stray tear. “Even if it’s only been a day for me. But we have to work hard for that to happen. Now, the rest of the miraculouses. We need to figure out which ones are with Hawkmoth and which ones are with Mayura.”
“That will be tricky,” Tikki informed. “They stole them, but they haven’t really used them.”
“Really?” Marinette asked. “I thought they would jump at the chance.”
“Not many people were exactly jumping at the chance of helping the enemies. Instead, whenever they tried giving a civilian a miraculous, the civilians tried to steal them to give back to you. It’s how we got the bee miraculous back, from the one civilian who succeeded. The rest… It did not end well for them.”
“God, everything’s so bleak here,” Marinette said as her phone started vibrating. She mindlessly grabbed to see who it was, and almost immediately yelped. “AH! EW!” The phone flew from her hand, clattering loudly on the desk. Still vibrating with that horrid picture on its screen.
“What’s wrong?!” Tikki gasped.
“It’s Lila,” Marinette said. When Tikki tilted her head, Marinette’s brows went up her forehead. “She lied to everyone, got me expelled, tried to force Adrien to be with her. Did she not do that here? Wait, no, don’t tell me I was one of her believers in this timeline.”
“Oh, well, Lila did lie at first, but eventually she apologized and became friends with you. And I guess maybe she didn’t try anything with Adrien because it was really obvious you and him were smitten with each other when she joined the school.” Tikki squinted her eyes. “It’s almost convenient that she’s bad in your timeline when she’s your current love rival.”
“Are you implying I’m making it up?” Marinette placed her hands on her hips.
“I just think it’s a convenient coincidence that Adrien’s current girlfriend is supposedly a nemesis of yours in this other timeline. Is rescuing Adrien from her part of your plans?”
“I can’t do that, Tikki,” Marinette said quietly. The kwami blinked, so she continued. “Right now, as things are, and as much as it breaks my heart to say it, I-I…I can’t trust Adrien. Not only is he not Chat Noir here, but we don’t know how he lost his miraculous. Add to that the fact that I simply don’t recognize him. My Adrien would never treat me the way he did today. Even as a messed-up ex. And the fact that he probably still doesn’t know about his father, that makes him more susceptible to get akumatized. And whenever Adrien gets akumatized…” Marinette held her arms, averting her gaze. “I don’t think I can even look at Adrien in this timeline.”
Tikki’s paws landed on one of her hands. “I’m sorry for assuming the worst. I’m still getting used to this version of you.”
“Thanks.”
“You should still call Lila back,” Tikki suggested. “We won’t be able to do much if we end up having to worry about a lawsuit.”
Marinette let out a drawn-out groan. “One of my worst nightmares: being nice to Lila.”
“Just try?” Tikki requested, as she took the phone from the desk and brought it to her charge.
Marinette hesitated, but in the end decided Tikki was right. She needed to focus all her attention into fixing everything, and she wouldn’t be able to do that with people she couldn’t trust nearby. Or worse, having to waste time in court or in jail. With a bad taste in her mouth, Marinette took the phone and tapped the callback button.
“Hello, Marinette?” the voice of Lila responded on speaker.
“Hello, Lila,” Marinette said through clenched teeth.
“Thank goodness you’re okay,” Lila sighed. “I tried calling earlier, but I saw there was a sentimonster near your apartment. I thought something happened to you.”
“I’m fine,” Marinette resolved to respond. She felt sick, yet managed to add: “What’s up?”
“Right, so, Adrien told me what happened this morning. I wanted to hear your side of the story.”
Marinette looked at Tikki in hopes of inspiration, but the kwami merely shrugged, just as lost as her.
“U-Uuh, it’s hard to explain—”
“Adrien is very upset about it. He’s seriously considering the restraining order. Please, don’t make me tell him to go through with it.”
“NO!” Marinette instantly cringed at her tone. “I mean, that won’t be necessary. U-Um, it won’t happen again, I promise.”
“I’m starting to get tired of you saying that,” Lila said.
Crap, Marinette thought. “Look,” she started carefully, “maybe I can explain better over breakfast tomorrow?”
“What are you doing?” Tikki whispered, but Marinette just waved her off.
“You want us to have breakfast with you tomorrow?” Lila asked tentatively.
Not you, Marinette thought. “Yes,” she said. “I-I promise I’ll clear everything up.”
“Hm,” Lila responded. “I’ll convince Adrien to postpone the meeting with his lawyer. Where should we meet?”
“You can choose that if you want,” Marinette rushed to say.
“Okay then. I’ll send the details later.”
“Great! Anyway, I’m busy, gotta go, bye!” And just like that, Marinette hung up.
“What are you doing?!” Tikki asked again, louder this time.
“I can’t just go ‘sorry, won’t happen again,’ and expect them to believe me,” she argued. “I have to appear sincere and convince them that not only will it not happen again, but that I won’t be a problem, so he doesn’t feel the need to go through with the restraining order anyway. Even if it means not seeing him again as long as I’m in this timeline.”
“Oh,” Tikki uttered. “You think you can do that?”
“It wouldn’t be the first time I have to push him away for his safety,” Marinette reasoned. “Granted, the other times we weren’t a couple yet, but I think I can manage since, technically, we’re not a couple here either.”
“Hmm,” Tikki placed her paws back on Marinette’s hand. “Then I’ll support you in whatever you need.”
“Thanks,” Marinette said. “Who knows, I might figure out a way out of here before we even get to that conversation. But I should figure out what to say, just in case. I would need to know more about this timeline’s me to create a plausible explanation.”
“I suggest you sit down and start taking notes then,” Tikki said with renewed determination, as they shifted their focus to the next day’s first mission. Just in case.

She's in Love With the Boy
Summary: One photograph can change a duo’s whole dynamic. When Marinette's Adrien shrine is replaced with friendly photos as well as a selfie she took with Cat Noir one night a few weeks ago, even our blind boy Adrien is a little suspicious about that.
Chapter II: Love & War
Adrien’s POV:
“Check this out!” Nino said his head popped through the entrance to Marinette’s room.
“I could if you’d move it already,” I quipped back, a few steps lower than him. With my path clear I followed him up, Tom's food tray in hand. "Hello, ladies." I whistled at the picture wall. "Nice, Marinette. You've got everybody up here."
"Thanks." She gave a little smile. "Yeah, I got a bunch of stuff printed a few days ago and decided to work a little collage here."
“Cool,” I said. “Maybe you could email us some if you have them backed up somewhere?”
”Of course. Hey, I’ve got a little setup on the balcony so we can eat and start our project. Come on up,” she invited us.
More pictures of our friends, mostly the girls, were to be found over her bed. Marinette,” Nino said teasingly. “A number one fan of the heroes, are you? Or just the bug and cat?”
She blushed as he pointed out the picture. “W-well, were all sort of fans, right? I mean, you know I’ve made dolls for my babysitting gigs and Alya’s got her action figures.”
Except this wasn’t a news clipping or internet download. It wasn’t an obvious selfie, but I wouldn’t forget that first night, settled together on the Arc de Triomphe after Monarch—Shadow Moth renamed—had claimed the majority of the miraculous.
You couldn’t see the red rimming in her eyes in that photo on top of the legendary monument, but I remembered every detail from that night. Her every look towards me had changed. I didn’t dare hope she was in love with me, but in a snap we were a team again. The two of us against the world. I heard the pastry tray clang to the floor and was brought back to the present moment.
My three friends were frozen and I realized I must have said the words aloud. Nino once again paused halfway through the skylight, the girls staring up from below. I was looking at Rena Rouge, Carapace, and...
”M’lady.” She stumbled back, not seeming upset by my identity, but nervous at what knowing the truth could mean for us. “All this time,” I whispered. I climbed back down, Alya taking my place and heading outside with Nino to give the two of us a bit of space to talk. “Marinette, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to blurt it like that. It was wrong of me. I was just shocked, seeing a private picture there.”
”I was stupid. I couldn’t imagine any of my friends were you. I just wanted one thing somewhere I could see it everyday. We can’t have anything, can we?” I frowned. “Well, since you know anyways...” She took my hand as Tikki and Fluff silently joined us from the other corner of the room. Guiding me over to her desk space she opened her sewing box to show a tidy box of thread spools generally organized in the order of the rainbow. Her hand hovered over the green and yellow section. “As we get the miraculous back I want you to have the code in case I’m not around for some reason. Or if you ever need to grab another.”
After she pushed down four buttons slowly so I could memorize them the box opened further, revealing the spotted miracle box and a book. “Marinette, you don’t need to prove your trust in me.”
”Even so, I prioritized Alya as my successor because she wasn’t active when I told her. That needs to change. I already discussed it with her and I was going to bring it up when we met tonight. Not come clean entirely, but tell you she could guide you to the box, should something happen to me.”
I really hated when she talked like that. ”What about this?”
She grimaced as I ran my finger down the spine of what looked to be a scrapbook. She silently nodded for me to take it out as our friends entered the room again. Pictures and sketched in quotes littered each page. “I plan to fill a whole lot more of those.”
”Ah, a baker’s dozen, then.”
She swatted my shoulder, trying to hid a grin. “That was awful. I’m trying to be serious and you always—” Her voice broke. “Please don’t let me forget, Adrien.”
So that’s what this was about. Her memories. I slid the book back into the box, stepping away so Alya could close it. “Come here.” She wrapped her arms around my middle. “You’ll be old and grey by the time you pass that box on, m’lady. And I have no doubt whoever you choose will be close enough to you that you’ll still have all of the kwamis around. Maybe it’ll be your own kid you train. Everything will work out just fine, I promise.”
”Alright, you two,” Nino cut in. “Maybe we push this to tomorrow?”
I nodded, moving towards the chaise after our friends had gone and my partner released me. “Kitty.”
My little nick name was barely audible. “Yes?”
”I don’t know how exactly you feel about me after everything, but...” I waited in silence, unwilling to sway her in what she needed to express, only daring to hope this amazing girl could love me back. “I’m sorry I built that wall between us. Not as a guardian, but as your partner. As your friend. When I sensed... other feelings, I was scared. I didn't want to change the team. I didn't want to have another layer of temptation for either of us to expose our identities. If one of us is captured it could be a very dangerous situation. Adrien, there are only three miraculous in our keeping. If this slips and someone learns where to look I don't know what will happen. I don't want my family involved and that's the first move someone will make if they need the box opened."
"I'll wait."
"What?"
"I told myself I could let you go in time if you didn't love me. But if you do then I'll wait. We can date as civilians now and never as heroes. We can be friends in both forms if you need that sense of security. All I need from you is your honestly and faith. The rest we'll find in time."
"Even if I'm admitting I love you?"
"I will always wait for you, Marinette. If I'm young and wild or six feet down, I'll wait for you."
She walked over, hugging me tight. With a shaking breath she pressed a kiss to my cheek. "Thank you, kitty."
~~~~~
Two years later they looked over the city of love. Paris was so beautiful at night, even broken by Monarch's war. Their city needed some patching up. Rebuilding. Too many funerals to count. Short of a few required legal matters, Adrien Agreste had washed his hands of his father and cousin. Mercifully-unbelievably-it was over. The fighting was over. They had won. They shared the first mutual kiss they could both say they remembered. Yes, their city needed healed, but from that moment forward Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste lived happily ever after.
Tikki looked on with a sigh of contentment. "Like every other holder of mine," she told her fellow kwamis. "She's in love with the boy."
(Master Post)
_____________________________________________________________
Masquerade surveyed the classroom. Her former classmates now her masked servants. It was fitting how they were all silent. Before, they listened to her because she told them exactly the things they wanted to hear, now they listened because she had power over them. It was kind of poetic in a way.
She looked across the classroom, she realized that there seemed to be more people missing than she initially realized.
“We are missing someone. Aside from Marinette, who is missing?”
The controlled classmates looked amongst themselves. Trying to figure out who was the one that was not in the class.
“Is it Chloé?” Miracular inquired, trying to answer her master’s request.
The akuma looked around.
“Huh… Oh yea, she isn’t here. Well she isn’t important. I was thinking someone else.” Masquerade answered. She looked to her most recently made akuma servant.
The Bubbler, the akumatized version of Nino stood motionless. As if he was not registering what was going on.
“Bubbler? Do you know who is missing?”
The multicolored akuma said nothing. Not even looking in the direction of the mask maiden.
“Bubbler! I order you to answer me!” She commanded with fiery rage.
The akuma turned to face his master, now responding.
“Adrien is missing.” The bubbler answered, his voice robotic and as emotive as a speak and spell.
“So, Adrien isn’t in the room. What a shame. I was planning on turning him into my handsome little knight.”
Masquerade thought for a moment.
Has Adrien been akumatized? Lila wasn’t sure she had ever seen or heard about him getting akumatized. She knew that the class had pretty much gotten hit at least once or twice at some point from what she had heard and read from the ladyblog. But if that goody-goody Marinette hadn’t been akumatized, Adrien likely hadn’t been akumatized either.
“Alright my servants! We have a new mission. I want you to lock this school down! No one is allowed in or out. Anyone you find, bring them to me. If they can be akumatized, then they are joining our cause.”
“Time breaker. Guard the perimeter outside of the school. Anyone outside of Ladybug and Chat noir trying to get in. Tag them, but only if they are suspicious of what’s going on. Stay hidden otherwise.”
“Timebreaker nodded and began skating out of the room in a rush.
“Horrificator, once Timebreaker is outside, seal all the exits in the main building.”
The masked monstress nodded and sped out of the room.
“Dark Cupid, Stoneheart, Princess Fragrance, Miracular and Reflekta. I want you to split up check all of the rooms and bring me potential akumas.”
The five akuma nodded and made their way out the door.
“Gamer and Robostus. I want you to hack into the airwaves. I want access to every Electric device in Paris when I give you the signal. But make sure to be subtle. I don’t want anyone to know about us until I tell you.”
The two nod and start working to get that ready for her.
She focuses her attention to the bubble making akuma that was giving her problems earlier.
Considering how hard it was to break him down, it was understandable. She had saved him for last for a reason. Because he was the hardest one to crack.
He was a relatively calm individual, able to keep a level head. But even he had his weakness. His confidence. Once that was shaken, seeing his entire class taken, knowing his girlfriend was under her control, he couldn't resist another moment. In a way, it was the most satisfying charm on her bracelet.
“Now Bubbler, you are going to go and locate Marinette and Adrien for me. Put them in a bubble and bring them to me. Help that girlfriend of yours.”
The bubbler nodded yes despite severe shaking. Seems even now he is trying to resist the control of the mask.
“Troublesome, but it is only temporary. He will break soon enough.” Masquerade mused to herself.
She looked at the near empty room with contempt. This was hardly a place where she could exact her vengeance. It was so… lame. Though a thought occurs as she realized who she had left standing at attention without orders.
“Evillustrator, I have a special request for you.”
________________________________________________________
“What is this?” Chloé screeched. “My daddy bought me the best phone plan in the city. How can I not have service right now?!”
The nurse felt a chill run down her spine. Could the akuma block out phone signals? Is that why there is no attention being given to the school? How could they call for help? How would anyone know of the akuma attack? Would Ladybug and Chat noir be able to help them?
The nurse started to feel herself going pale, she was just supposed to be a school nurse. Worst thing she needed to deal with was a scraped knee or give a kid an ice pack. Now she has a woman that collapsed on the bed and an akuma that is somewhere in the school. She had just moved to Paris a few months ago. It was her dream to live in the city of love, get her career going, find a nice guy, and just live the good life. But no one told her that supervillain attacks would be so personally connected to her situation? She had heard about this crap in New York and in America. But Paris? It was too much. What if Ladybug and Chat noir didn’t fix everything? What if this was where her story ended. What if…
“Hey!”
The nurse turned to her attention to the voice. It was the brash blonde teen that was complaining.
“You look like you’re going to pass out. Just a heads up, I am not taking care of you.” Chloé commented.
Angela felt her face heat up with annoyance.
“Listen you brat. I don’t have time to deal with your attitude. I have a woman that is out cold from exhaustion in a building with a hostile akuma.”
“Good, at least you aren’t going to faint. I don’t need any more whinny women fainting on me”
The nurse paused, did the girl say that just to help her not succumb to the grim situation?
Chloé started making her way to the door.
“Hey, where are you going?”
“You already got your hands full with the annoying assistant. I need to make a call to daddy. So, I am going to head out the building and try there. Try not to get ripped apart by an akuma, I still need more ice when I get back.”
Angela blinked. This girl wasn’t scared of the akuma. She was actually going out to do something reasonable. If she could call for help, it would mean that this whole thing blows over.
“Okay, I’ll stay here. Be safe.”
“Yea whatever.”
Chloé headed out the door.
Angela felt a ghost of a smile grace her face.
‘Maybe that girl isn’t a complete brat after all.’
The shapeshifting sentimonster growled as it smacked the locker. It lost both primary targets. And worst of all, Ladybug appeared to make this even harder. Masquerade needed to hear about this.
“Master, Marinette and Adrien have escaped my sight.”
The sentimonster heard a sigh of disappointment from the other end.
“It is fine Simularé, They wont be able to escape the school anyway. They will be found soon enough. If anything, this is a blessing in disguise. Having them be the last targets will have them bare witness to how devasting it will all be.” Masquerade answered. “Any news on Ladybug and Chat noir?”
“That’s the other bad news. Ladybug arrived, I am assuming that’s how Marinette managed to escape, and ladybug also took Adrien away as well. No sign of chat noir. But if you know one is here, the other is likely soon to follow.”
There was a brief moment of silence, as masquerade mulled over the information she had received.
“Actually, that works out well for us. Meet up at my location, I have the other students out looking for them, I need your power for something more important.”
“Yes master.”
Simularé shifted back into its phantom form, moving quickly down the hallway to obey her master’s request.
Just as it left, Ladybug popped out of a nearby locker. Relieved it didn’t notice.
“That’s not good, Masquerade likely got everyone in the classroom.” The red heroine said aloud.
She activated her communicator and tried to contact chat noir. But there was no sound.
“Damn it. No signal. Lila likely cut the communication as soon as she realized it.?”
“No worries Buggaboo, I happen to be on site.” A voice called out.
Chat noir jumped out of another locker to reveal he was there.
Ladybug felt a bit of relief at her partner’s appearance. She could tell he felt the same. Better a situation with two heroes.
“Been here the whole time?” The spotted heroine asked her cat crimefighting comrade.
“Just arrived a few minutes ago, I figured something was up, so I decided to take a quick peek. Cat curiosity and all that.”
“And you assumed it was with Collège Françoise Dupont?”
“It seemed like a solid guess.”
“Considering the track record, that is reasonable.” Ladybug conceded.
“Ever wonder why it is always this school and never any of the other schools? Paris is a big city. You would think Hawkmoth would decide to branch out to the other schools in the city.” Chat noir inquired as they started walking down the hall.
“I assumed its just a coincidence.”
“Shot in the dark, maybe he has a kid that goes here. He is pretty old” Chat noir dissed.
“I can’t imagine anyone that would want to date Hawkmoth.” Ladybug joked.
“What about the blue lady? She seemed crazy enough.”
“And now that image is burned in my mind. Thanks kitty.” Ladybug sarcastically commented. “Despite the mental scarring, I am glad you got here. Seems a repeat offender got herself an upgrade in the akuma powers department.”
“Lila.”
“How did you know?”
“I was reading the ladyblog, Alya did great work on that article.” Chat noir praised. He mentally applauded his quick thinking.
“Right, kind of the reason I felt the need to keep an eye on this place. But sadly, I was too slow.” Ladybug responded a tad gloomy.
“Hey, don’t sweat it. We will finish this akuma before lunch.”
Ladybug heard a footstep from the end of the hallway.
“Get down!”
Ladybug tackled the cat hero down. Just narrowly avoiding a neon pause symbol, which now suck on the wall.
“Looks like Lila has been busy.” Chat noir noted as he turned his face to the direction of the attacker.
Ladybug looked at the akuma. The white mask covering her friend’s face. Lady Wifi was back.
“Alya…”
The two heroes got into a fighting stance and prepared to take down this controlled akuma.
________________________________________________
The halls were empty and lifeless as the two visiting teens made their way cautiously down the halls.
“Oddly quiet in here.” The fencer commented. “What do you think Luka?”
“Well last time we entered a place with an akuma in it, it was brimming with armored minions. Maybe this akuma has more stealth?” The Musician commented. “So, I don’t think you will be fighting as directly as you are use to Kagami.”
Kagami nodded at that, not exactly happy or sad regarding that remark. Her plan was to see if she could help her friends get out of the building, grab her textbook, and get out. She wasn’t really that interested in fighting a superpowered foe at this moment in time.
The two ceased speaking when they heard approaching footsteps.
“Someone’s coming.” Luka noted.
The two duck into the nearest room.
The two stayed close to the door as they listened to the sound of the approaching figure.
Kagami dropped to the floor silently as to check and see if she could get a visual.
She could only see what appeared to be costume boots of a larger figure. Which made the expert fencer believe it was not friendly.
The figure stopped, looking at the door. The two teens felt their neck hairs stand on edge as they did their best not to make a sound.
After what felt like an eternity, the figure passed the door without checking. Once the sound of his footsteps could no longer be heard, they let out a sigh of relief.
“That was way too close for comfort.”
“Agreed. I would prefer a direct confrontation next time, much less nerve-racking. “
The two carefully open the door and exit the room.
“Seems we found the akuma.” Luka commented. “Now we just need to avoid it and.”
“You mean akumas.” Kagami corrected.
“Akumas?”
Kagami tilted the boys head to look in the same direction she was looking, and sure enough she saw a rather large rock like creature walking the halls.
“Oh… well that is bad.”
Kagami pushed him back into the room and closed the door. Locking it before the rock giant could notice them.
“I’m surprised.”
“By the fact there is an 8-foot-tall rock beast outside?”
“No, by the fact you didn’t try to fight it.”
“I don’t have a weapon.” Kagami replied flatly.
Luka raised a brow at the comment, unsure if the fencer was serious or not about fighting that thing if she had a foil.
“Is something wrong?” A third voice came from behind them.
The two teens turned around, preparing for the worst. Though they were relieved to see it was just an old janitor… in a Hawaiian shirt. Despite his odd dress, he did give off a kind aura. One of a trusting old grandpa.
They noticed that the room seemed to be a sort of teacher’s lounge, with a small counter with a sink and cabinets. As well as a fridge to keep food cold and stored. A place in the school where teachers would come to get a quick coffee or store their lunch.
“Oh good, you aren’t an akuma.” Luka sighed with relief.
“An akuma?” The old man asked.
“Yes, it is very dangerous out there right now. There are multiple villains outside. I would recommend staying put while we go out there and help handle things.” Kagami explained.
“Quite bold of you to go out there against those monsters.” The man responded.
“Don’t worry, we will be careful. We just need to make sure we can get as many people out as we can so Ladybug and Chat noir won’t need to worry.”
“Ah, how selfless of you. You both seem quite capable for ones so young.”
“You’re very kind, but we are just doing what we can. Our friends are out there and they need our help.”
Kagami goes to the door. Checking to ensure the coast is clear again.
The old man pats the musician’s shoulder.
“I am sure you two will figure a way to help your friends.”
“There are too many outside this room.” Kagami grumbled. If only I had a way to fight them.”
The mysterious janitor smiled.
“Say… I did happen to see Ladybug earlier.”
The two teens turned their attention to the old man.
“You did?” they asked in unison.
“Yes, she happened to drop something while rushing. Would you two be so kind as to return them to her when you see her.”
The two of them glance at each other and shrug. The old janitor might be senile.
“Sure… We can give it to her.” Luka assured the old man, trying to remain polite.
The old man moves to a closet, where out of view of the two teens, an elaborate chest with the symbol of the guardian’s decorates the top. He quickly gets two smaller boxes and closes the closet.
“Ah! Here they are.”
He hands the two a small box each. Their eyes go wide.
“They seemed important, so I didn’t want to just leave them on the floor. But I have a feeling you two will take good care of them.”
The two teens were engrossed by the boxes in their hands. They recognized them immediately. These were the boxes Ladybug used when handing out miraculous.
“Where did you find…?” Kagami tried to question, but noticed the old man was no longer there.
“He’s gone…”
“Actually, I am over here.”
The teens look in the opposite direction they were looking in order to see him at the end of the room getting a snack from the fridge.
The duo decided that maybe this old guy wasn’t all there after all and figured it would be best to go somewhere and utilize the ‘gift’ they were just given.
“Stay in the lounge where it’s safe okay?” Luka asked politely.
“Of course. I am not paid if I am not working.”
The two teens checked the door again, and once the coast was clear. They both slipped out of the room.
After he knew they were out of sight, the old man chuckled.
“The senile routine works every time.”
“Master, you really cut it close with that one.” A small turtle creature exclaimed as he popped out from the closet.
“The universe works in mysterious ways Wayzz. What are the odds that there would be an attack on the school the very day I decide to hide out as a janitor?”
“Considering the frequency of akuma attacks, very likely.”
“True, but how about running into two individuals that Marinette had picked to be heroes.” Fu followed up.
“That is quite a coincidence.”
The guardian pulled out his phone and noticed he didn’t have a signal.
“It seems I can’t get a signal to notify her of the reinforcements I sent her way. Likely it would be the same on her end. So, it is a good thing I acted in advance.”
Fu moved to the closet where he kept the miraculous.
“I can’t help but shake the feeling Ladybug and Chat noir will need all of the help they can get.
“Don’t worry master, I am sure Ladybug and Chat noir will be successful.
“Let us keep an eye on things. They might need another ally to turn the tide.
________________________________________________________
“I am guessing you are also familiar with what’s inside here?” Kagami inquired as the two stealthily moved in the hall.
“I may be familiar with it.” Luka commented.
Kagami contemplated the statement. She figured out the truth.
“Seems we both have used a miraculous then?”
“It appears we have. Though I am not sure Ladybug will be thrilled that someone knows I have helped her.”
“I understand the sentiment. Though lets simply agree to keep it between us.” Kagami answered. “Friends do keep secrets like that if I’m correct.”
Luka smiled at the comment.
“Your secret is safe with me.” Luka assured.
“As is yours.”
The two found the locker room and quickly moved inside.
“Coast is clear.”
The two opened the boxes and as they did two magical creatures appeared in front of them.
A floating creature with multiple spikes appeared in front of the fencer, while another floating creature that resembled a cobra stood in front of luka.
“It is a pleasure to see you again Mistress Kagami.”
“It’s been too long, Longg.” Kagami smiled. Happy to see her kwami friend.
“Hello Luka, itssss been a while.” The snake kwami greeted.
“Happy to see you too Sass.” Luka fist bumped his kwami.
The kwamis stop and turn to see the other kwami there.
“Does Ladybug know about this?” They both ask in unison.
“We will inform her after. Right now, there is a lot of danger.” Kagami exclaimed. “Ladybug needs our help.”
The two kwami nod and prepare to fight.
“Consssider us accomplissses.” Sass answered.
The two teens put on the miraculous.
“Sass! Scales Slither.”
“Longg! Bring the storm”
The two teens transform into their heroic alter egos.
Kagami shifting into the dragon miraculous hero Ryuuko, and Luka changing into the Snake hero Viperion.
The two stop to glance at the other.
“So, what should I call you.” The snake hero asked curiously.
“Call me Ryuuko. And what about you mister snake?”
“Viperion is what I am going with.”
“Fitting.”
“As is yours.”
The two give a nod of comradery before making their way out of the locker room. They had to go help Ladybug.
__________________________________________________
Ladybug dashed across the hallway, avoiding pause symbols being flung at her by the conniving akuma.
She slid underneath one of the symbols and preformed a daring slide kick to knock Lady Wifi off balance.
While she was unstable, Chat noir charged and used his baton to make contact with her white mask. Believing it was the obvious weak point.
“Got it!” Chat noir exclaimed triumphantly. The strike of the staff knocking Ladywifi a good several meters. Before lying flat on her back.
“Wow, that is a tough mask. I thought for sure that was the weak point.” Chat noir commented.
Lady Wifi stood up robotically.
“There must be a way to snap her out of it. Unless Hawkmoth is learning from his mistakes.” Ladybug hypothesized as she got up from the ground.
“Well I got nothing.” Chat noir shrugged.
Another set of footsteps approaching caught the hero’s attention. The recognized the multicolored bubble maker the moment they saw him.
“Nino… You too?” Chat noir said under his breath.
The Bubble maker used his bubble wand to summon two large bubbles to capture the heroes. Bringing back flashbacks of their first encounter with the bubble akuma.
Chat noir and Ladybug expertly slide between the gaps of the attack, resulting in Lady Wifi getting hit with the large bubbles and being sent flying into the wall via bubble prison.
Chat noir lunged at the Bubbler, his quick pounce pinning him down before he could attack.
“Maybe I can destroy his mask with…”
“Wait Chat noir!” Ladybug called out.
Chat noir paused.
“What if your cataclysm doesn’t free him?”
“And then I am left without the power before a recharge.”
“Exactly. We need to hold off on using our powers right now.”
Chat noir wanted to save his friend. But he knew his partner was right. They needed to conserve their powers before facing Lila.
The Bubbler managed to get the cat hero off of him with a burst of strength. Knocking Chat noir to the ground.
Lady Wifi had gotten free from the bubble attack and was now blocking the other entrance.
Ladybug and Chat noir moved back to back, Ladybug facing the ladyblogger turned mindless akuma slave and Chat noir facing the akumatized DJ.
“Any ideas, Buggaboo?”
“Seems they can’t adapt. They are pretty much mindless slaves. Which makes sense since Lila wouldn’t want them to think for themselves.”
“So you’re saying their movements are simple.”
“Which means they are exploitable.”
Chat noir felt relief watch over him. He knew Ladybug had a plan.
_____________________________________________________
“EWWWW!” Chloé screeched in disgust. The front entrance to the school had been covered in a pink slime.
She wiped her hand on the cleanest section of wall she could find. This was not her day.
“What is with this nasty gross akuma? First, I can’t call Daddy to come and pick me up. I can’t even post about it! How will Ladybug know to save me? Or better yet, get me the bee miraculous so I can help her save the day?”
Chloé decided to try another exit, since she had no plans of sticking around without knowing if she was going to be given a miraculous or not. Plus, she did say she would call for help, and doing that would make her look good in potential hero points.
As she was walking, she bumps into something in the middle of the hall. Which was bizzare since the hall was clear.
“Ouch, right on my bruise. What the hell is…”
Chloé felt her anger shift to fear when she watched as the empty hall now contained a familiar akuma.
“Sabrina?”
The akuma turned to her, her face covered with a white face mask.
“Eww. Your akuma form looks even tacker than before.”
“Take potential akuma to master.” The akumatized Sabrina stated in an emotionless tone. Repeating the order, she had been given.
“Oh no you don’t! Sabrina, I order you to listen to me!”
The akuma ignored the blonde’s command and slowly walked towards her.
“Sabrina… I am warning you. I am going to yell at you over this later if you don’t stop right now.”
Chloé started slowly backing away. She wasn’t sure of what to do.
“Listen… if you stop right now… I’ll uh… let you take a pick of one of my old sweaters.” Chloé bargained, not intending to let her pick one of the ones she actually liked.
Chloé felt her hand touch the sealed door, and knew she was at the end of the hall. She was boxed in.
“This is so unacceptable.” Chloé stated, preparing to get captured. But a flash of Red and Black came out of nowhere and kicked the akuma hard to the wall.
“Ladybug! I knew you would like save me!” Chloé jumped and hugged her savior.
“Im not ladybug.” The heroine spoke.”
Chloé released the hug as she examined who her savior was.
“Who the hell are you?”
Chloé had never bothered to learn the names of any of the other miraculous heroes. She sometimes forgets chat noir’s name.
“Ryuuko.” The dragon heroine stated calmly, almost regretting saving Chloé.
“Did Ladybug send you? Cause it would have been better if she got me to help.”
Ryuuko decided to ignore Chloé’s comment.
“Now we need to leave before she… Where did she go?” Looking at the dented locker that no longer had an akuma lying on the ground.
Suddenly the akuma popped out of nowhere about to strike from above with her tonfa and steal Ryuuko’s powers, but was stopped when a small harp smacked her face.
“She appears to have invisibility.” A voice called out.
The two turn to see the snake hero as he caught his harp on the rebound.
Chloé took a moment to look over the snake hero. She had to admit, he was pretty cute. Not Adrien cute, maybe she would start learning the names of the other heroes.
“Quick thinking Viperion.” Ryuuko thanked the snake teen.
“Just following your lead.” Viperion responded. The two giving eachother a respectful smile. They both seemed to have gotten used to working together.
The akuma got up. Its white face mask making the akuma’s expression unreadable. But its body language exuded rage.
“Seems we aren’t going anywhere until she is taken care of.” Ryuuko said as she stared down the akuma.
Viperion turned to chloé.
“You need to go and get to safety.”
“Okay!” Chloé says as she runs off.
“How come she didn’t give you any sass?”
“Because I already have him.”
Kagami had to admit that was a clever response.
“Not what I meant, but Chat noir would love that joke.”
“I will be sure to tell him it later.”
“Stick to playing guitar. You’re a better musician than comedian.”
Before they could get off anymore banter. The akuma went for another attack.
________________________________________________________
Simularé entered Ms.Bustier’s classroom.
“I am here.” The ghostly sentimonster announced.
“Excellent.”
The sentimonster looked up to see that the classroom it was expeciting to see had been altered into what appeared to be a rather glamourous throne room. The windows covered by white curtains with the design of an akuma in black. The platforms and stairs had been altered to be marble. And at the top, where Lila’s desk once was was now a golden throne akin to something one would see in a castle. Though despite the impressive change in the classroom it was still being designed. The akuma known as the evillustrator was still creating more furnishings for the room.
“Simulare, I have an order for you.” Masquerade stated as she sat on the new throne. Clearly confident in her position.
The sentimonster approached her master. Stopping only a few feet away.
“I want you to create a mirage over the school. Since Ladybug is already in the school. It would be best if you made sure no one notices whats happening here. I don’t need any additional heroes popping in yet. Let’s handle her before making things public.”
Simularé nodded.
“Understood. But what should we do if she…”
“I have everything under control. Just follow my orders.”
Simularé ceased her questioning.
“As you wish master.”
The sentimonster shifted into her Volpina form and headed out of the classroom.
“She is getting arrogant in her power. If things do go south, I will need to step in.” Simularé said to herself. But for now, she knew she had a role to play.
_____________________________________________________________
And that ends part 34.
Seems things are REALLY heating up. Will Viperion and Ryuuko be able to help Ladybug and Chat noir?
Will Ladybug and Chat noir be able to get through to their brainwashed friends?
Will Masquerade's gambit be enough for her to get her vengeance?
Whats Simularé's deal?
Our Future
Felinette Akuma Shenanigans Project
Ao3
One-shot
Marinette sat alone in the classroom.
All her classmates had gone to lunch, and she decided to take a nap at her desk, as she hadn’t slept much again last night.
But she didn’t manage to fall asleep, so she just sat with her hands folded on the desk and her head resting on them.
She heard a muffled whisper from the hallway.
“Come on! You can do it! The first voice said. “She’s alone now!”
“I won’t talk to her!” Another one protested.
“You know that sooner or later it’s gonna happen!” The first one insisted.
“Maybe it won’t!” Didn’t give up the second.
Marinette straightened up in her seat and frowned.
Who could it be and why are they disturbing her alone time when she couldn’t sleep even without their help?!
The girl quietly got up, crept up to the door and looked out into the hallway.
To her surprise, Marinette saw Adrien and Felix, who were standing outside the door.
When they saw her, both began to pretend that they weren’t even there.
Marinette frowned.
Ever since that akuma happened a couple of days ago, everyone who was touched by them still behaved strangely.
The akuma transported people to the future, where they stayed for several hours. Even Chat Noir was hit and that’s why it took Ladybug so long to neutralize the akuma...
Chat has also changed a lot since he returned from the future. He stopped flirting with her, but didn’t distance himself, and now behaved like a good friend.
But this friend completely refused to tell her what he saw in the future.
“Would you like to have lunch with us, Marinette?” Adrien asked cheerfully. “Felix and I were just about to join Alya, seeing that Nino is not at school today!”
Marinette sighed.
Since she couldn’t sleep anyway, at least she could eat.
*
“So, you both were brought to the future, huh?!” Alya exclaimed as they were all seated at a cafe table.
“Can you imagine?!” Adrien confirmed excitedly. “We ended up at Felix’s house! It was… unforgettable!”
Marinette looked at Felix, who for some reason looked up at her, but when he caught her gaze, he immediately looked away, blushing slightly.
That was weird.
What could be so embarrassing about his future that he blushes when Adrien mentions it?
“Really?” Alya asked with a curious expression.
“Yeah, grown up Felix is something special.” Adrien confirmed. “And his kids are just adorable!”
Hearing his words Marinette somehow felt disappointment and… bitterness?
Ever since Felix moved to Paris and began to study in their class, they constantly argued. It happened so often that it seemed to be starting to become a habit.
But together with this habit, something else came as well.
Marinette heard somewhere that the more you argue with people, the more you are imbued with their ideas without even noticing it.
It was hard to tell how much she was imbued with his ideas, but Felix himself…
In some mysterious way, he became important to her, and Marinette couldn’t express what that meant exactly.
She sighed and reminded herself that she was in love with Adrien, and Felix’s family life had nothing to do with her...
“Wow, kids!” Alya exclaimed.
“Yes, he is such a dad!” picked up Adrien. “And those blue-eyed twin boys are just so amazing!”
“I didn’t think you were a family type, Felix!” Alya said, turning to him.
“We don’t even know if this was our real future.” Felix snorted. “This all may still not happen.”
“Yeah, right!” Adrien chuckled skeptically. “You heard perfectly well that Felix from the future remembered our visit from your age.” Then a sly grin appeared on the model’s face. “Plus it’s not like you would let anyone else be with her!” He smirked. “I saw the way you look at each other!”
“And who is this unfortunate woman who managed to get in so much trouble to marry him?” The journalist asked, squinting her eyes.
“She didn’t seem in trouble to me…” Adrien remarked. “Both of them looked quite happy actually.”
Felix casted a cursory glance at Marinette, but it didn’t escape the attentive eyes of the journalist.
“No way!” She gasped.
Marinette looked at her with interest.
“No way what?” She asked cluelessly.
Felix’s eyes widened, and he looked at Alya with an almost pleading gaze.
“Come on boy.” The blogger said. “If it’s really going to happen, she’s gonna know it at some point anyway!” She reasoned, looking at him with still slightly round surprised eyes though.
“That’s what I keep telling him!” Supported Adrien.
“Guys, what are you all talking about?” Marinette asked, frustrated, feeling as if she was missing something important.
“But what about...” Alya pointed her eyes at Adrien questionably.
“Nah.” Adrien waved his hand dismissively. “Who didn’t have a crush at our age at some point?” He said philosophically. “I had one as well. This journey helped me see a lot of things differently.”
“But our evil boy and our pure angel, together...” Alya continued the conversation with Adrien, ignoring Marinette’s question.
Marinette was upset. And curious. But more upset. Or more curious.
She couldn’t decide.
And to her surprise it wasn’t about Adrien and his crush at all!
Actually, now that she thought about it, when was the last time she was thinking about Adrien longer than 30 seconds?
Ever since Felix had arrived, she had always been outraged by his antics. This occupied her mind so much that there was no more place and time left for Adrien...
Was that why Marinette was so worried about the fact that one day he would be married, and happily married, and apparently become a good father?
And everyone has already guessed who will be his wife. Some beautiful girl that Alya called ‘pure angel’. At this thought, for some reason, a lump rolled up in her throat and pinched her eyes.
Marinette tried to swallow it and casted a furtive glance at Felix, and froze.
His green eyes looked at her with such an open and vulnerable expression that she had never seen on him before...
*
When Felix was hit by the akuma and realized that he was in the future 15 years ahead, he expected to see new buildings, new technologies, new celebrities.
What he didn’t expect to see when he arrived at his home was his future family: blue-eyed toddler boys and a beautiful elegant woman who turned out to be his wife.
But the most surprising thing in this whole story was that this beautiful woman also turned out to be Marinette, – his classmate, and also a girl who couldn’t stand him. Plus, she was in love with his cousin.
But when he saw her there, next to his future self, Felix didn’t even have a question if he wanted to be with her.
Because he saw this self-confident, charming, successful woman, – and he realized that he could already see the beginnings of all this in a slightly shy, stuttering, or panicking 15-year-old girl that he knew.
And Felix wanted to be with her.
He wanted to be the person who would see her gradually spread her wings. The one who will support her when it gets hard and share her happiness with her when she succeeds.
In sorrow and in joy…
God, in the heat of their constant quarreling, Felix completely missed the moment when he fell hopelessly and completely in love with Marinette...
While Felix was talking with his future wife, or rather with the wife of his future self, – who would understand these time travel confusions?! – the doorbell rang and the elder Felix brought a stunned Adrien to the room.
The model said that his house was sold and someone else lived in it, so he decided to look for other relatives and came here. He seemed a little surprised at first, but quickly settled in and left to play with his nephews, and the elder Felix went to introduce them.
Marinette placed her hand on Felix’s arm and he felt a flush of embarrassment engulf his face.
He usually had much better control over his emotions...
“Just be direct with her and everything will work out.” The woman said quietly.
“I don’t…” Felix felt even more embarrassed. He just realized his feelings and wasn’t sure he was ready to admit them to Marinette, – no matter what time she was from. “I don’t even know…”
“She doesn’t know yet either.” She smiled softly at him. “But if you’re honest with her, she might surprise both of you.”
Marinette gave him a mysterious smile, and Felix felt how much he longed to get back to see her…
His future wife…
*
“Can we uh…” Felix started and trailed off, not knowing how to finish the sentence. “Can I talk to you?” He said finally, and sullenly looked back at Adrien and Alya, who had stopped talking and were watching them intently. “Alone.” He added.
Marinette looked confused, but nodded and got up from the table, ready to go with him.
By the time they got outside, Felix had almost lost his resolve, but he decided it was unworthy to give up halfway and took a deep breath to calm himself down.
“Would you like to… uh… have a coffee with me?” He asked, looking slightly away.
“Didn’t you just have one in the cafe?” Marinette asked in surprise, furrowing her brows.
“As in, go on a date with me.” Felix explained meeting her gaze, and felt a heat touch his face and ears.
Marinette stared at him, still frowning for a while.
“Is that some sort of a prank?” She asked in a suspicious tone.
“Why is it supposed to be a prank?” Felix crossed his arms over his chest and frowned too.
“You hate me.” She explained as if it was obvious. “Why would you ask me on a date if it wasn’t one of your usual pranks?”
Right.
Felix sighed.
It didn’t look like Marinette intended to make his job – that already required much effort – easier.
“When people disagree, it doesn’t mean they must necessarily hate each other.” Felix said evasively. “I can respect you as an opponent.” He suggested.
“As if there was someone you actually respect.” Marinette rolled her eyes. “Better tell me right away what you need and don’t make a fool out of me!”
“I already told you!” Felix snapped. “Do you have problems with your ears that I need to repeat it twice?!”
“I don’t have problems with my ears!” Marinette exclaimed indignantly in response. “My only problem right now is you pretending to want to go on a date with me for some reason!”
“Why would I need to pretend in front of you?!” Felix yelled even louder. “You’re crazy! The guy invites you to drink coffee with him, and you suspect him of all mortal sins!”
“If I’m crazy, why do you want to go on a date with me?!” Marinette yelled back.
“Ah, now you believe that I want to go on a date with you?!” Felix yelled. “Or maybe you still haven’t decided what you believe in?!”
“I believe Adrien saw you married!” Marinette screamed, overwhelmed by her emotions. “And I don’t want to waste time on someone who’s already taken just to get my heart broken again!”
Felix’s eyes widened and his breath hitched. He silently stared at Marinette, who seemed to realize what she said, because she cringed, wrapped her arms around herself and looked away.
“That’s not what I wanted to say.” She muttered under her breath. “I uh… you…”
‘Just be straight with her and it will work out.’ Felix remembered and exhaled slowly.
“When I moved to live in Paris, there was a lot that I didn’t expect to find here.” Felix began, catching Marinette’s eye as she turned her head towards him uncertainly. “But most of all, I didn’t expect to meet someone equal to me in inner strength.” Marinette looked at him now with an interested look, as if listening to a fairy tale that intrigued her with its plot. “Someone who can handle my complex nature without succumbing to my provocations. Who will be a worthy companion in life, and whom I want to support in her endeavors and overcome difficulties together.” Marinette was looking at him as her face filled with sadness. “Whose eyes will be the deepest in the world, and whose voice I will recognize out of a thousand, because only she can speak so softly and firmly at the same time.”
He paused and looked into her eyes, waiting for the moment when Marinette realized that he was talking about her.
But that moment never came.
“Well, what can I say?..” The girl muttered in a trembling voice instead, tears glistening in her eyes. “If she is so amazing, why would you do your stupid pranks on me, calling me on a date, instead of just marring her already. Seeing you’re going to do it anyway.” She said in a hurt shaky voice.
Marinette looked away, and Felix could see she was trying to keep herself from crying.
He took her hand gently, and Marinette looked at him in surprise.
“That’s the thing, Marinette.” He said softly. “This girl, it’s you.”
Marinette looked at him confused at first, as if she was watching through some thoughts or memories in her mind, then her eyes widened and she opened her mouth, inhaling sharply.
Felix had no time to realize what was happening when Marinette grabbed his vest and pulled him to her, pressing their lips together in a deep passionate kiss, as if she was desperate and he was her only source of life.
Felix wrapped both arms around her back and pulled her closer to him, deepening the kiss with the same lust and desperation as his future wife.
“I told you they are gonna be just fine.” Felix vaguely heard Adrien’s voice behind him.
“Hmm… I can’t get used to the idea of them being together.” Alya’s voice replied.
“Take your time.” Adrien laughed. “Those two are gonna cling to each other for a while.”
“And whatever you do, don’t you dare detransforming!” Felix commanded, putting his hands on his hips.
Ladybug rolled her eyes.
“As if you were in the position to demand anything!” She snapped, then began to enthusiastically rotate her yoyo, doing tricks with it. “This thing is actually pretty cool.” She admitted.
“That’s a weapon!” Felix growled, trying to snatch the yoyo from her hands. * EARLY ACCESS to new chapters, fics and drafts on my Patreon
Lyre Festival Justice
Here is the sequel to Lyre Festival Fraud where you get to see exactly what happened to Lila during her long weekend after she went back to Italy. I thought, at first, that I may have gone to far with the salt... But it’s Lila and I really don’t like her character. So, Warm-Fuzzies and enjoy this salty goodness!!
It was a beautiful day in Rome and Lila was enjoying her shopping spree around the city. She and her mother had spent the first few days after moving back to Italy unpacking and getting settled. It was Sunday, and her mother had to go to the embassy to make sure that all of her paperwork had transferred from Paris, which gave Lila the opportunity to spend the money she’d gotten from the idiots from her old class. Really, she couldn’t believe how stupid they all were to have just handed her over €2,000 for a luxury vacation in Venice. She should have gotten at least €3,000 from the class, but that Mari-brat and stick-in-the-mud Adrien had convinced some of them that she was lying. Oh well, €2,000 was better than nothing.
Best part, none of it could be traced back to her. They travelled to Venice on their own, nothing had been written down, her old mobile phone was disconnected and in a landfill somewhere, and she would just tell her mother that she had gotten all her new clothes at a thrift shop she remembered from the last time they’d been living in Rome. And if the idiots got in trouble and tried to say that she was involved, she’d turn on the tears and her mother would side with her like she always did. Seeing a little cafe, she stopped in to get a good cappuccino, it had been too long since she’d had a deceit cup of coffee.
It was mid afternoon by the time she got home. She had made a stop at the thrift store to grab a couple of their shopping bags to hide the real ones inside. It felt wrong to put a Versace skirt in a bargain bag, but one does what one must to keep her life going smoothly. Opening the door to the apartment, she barely caught sight of her mother sitting on the couch before Lila started gushing about how great it was to be back in Italy and all the things she’d missed.
She prattled on for a couple minutes before noticing that her mother hadn’t said anything. Turning to look at her, Lila flinched when she saw her. Something was seriously wrong, the last time she had seen her mother so angry was when she’d told her that her dad was cheating on her. That hadn’t been true but they had ended up getting divorced anyway, which was to Lila’s benefit since the man had always called her out on her lies.
“Is everything okay, Mama?” She asked cautiously, doing her best to sound and appear small and innocent.
“Sit down.”
Her tone left no room for argument. Lila set down her bags and sat in the chair across from her mother.
“Mama, wha-”
“Be quiet!” She snapped, and Lila shut her mouth. This actually seemed worse than the fight her parents had before they divorced. “I received a very strange email on Friday night, from a former classmate of yours in Paris. It seemed that the majority of your class was under the impression that we were throwing a party for a lot of important politicians, celebrities, and musicians on a private island and you had invited them. I told myself, ‘not my daughter, she would never do something like that’. But the email went on, with a list of the students that were supposedly going on this trip and gave you money for the expenses. Again, I thought ‘Lila would never be so cruel as to steal money from her friends right before we left Paris’. So I told the person who sent me that detailed information, that I would handle it. I still thought it was a joke.”
The teenage girl didn’t even have to listen to the end of this story, she knew that goody-two-shoes Marinette had ratted her out. Lila was fighting every instinct she had to run and lock herself in her room, but if she moved even a little her mother would stop her. She could only sit there and hope that she could come up with some kind of lie to convince her mother that she was being set up.
“Then when I went into the embassy today, my boss pulled me into his office and started grilling me as to why I allowed seven unaccompanied minors entry into the country. I tried to explain that I had no idea what he was talking about, and then he started reading off the names. Do you want to guess why those names sounded so familiar?”
By this point, Lila was practically curling into herself to make herself appear smaller. She had to say something, any lie that would make her mother believe her and only her. Turning on the tears, she buried her face in her hands and spoke between sobs. Fake crying always gave her a few extra seconds to think before she had to speak. “I swear, Mama. I didn’t want to do it. Marinette forced me to take those papers from your office to give to our classmates so they could get into the country without their parents. I never took any money from them, I swear! Marinette was bullying me the entire time we were in Paris, I was scared of what she’d do to me if I didn’t do what she said. You’ve got to believe me!”
“So you’re saying that you didn’t tell your class about some non-existent party on a private island, had no knowledge of who was coming into Italy, where they were going, or anything like that?” Her mother’s eyes narrowed as she brought out her mobile phone.
Her hands were shaking as she kept her face buried in her hands, something about her mother’s tone  and the way she spoke made this feel like a trap. But she couldn’t backtrack now, Marinette was her way out and she had to stick with it. So she nodded as she continued to sob into her hands.
“Then please explain this to me.” Her mother turned the phone towards her and Lila looked up, her face falling in horror when she heard her own voice. It was a video of her telling her class about who was going to be at the party that she and her mom were organizing, how she was going to need to know for sure who all was coming before the weekend, and Marinette had somehow gotten video of Alya and Nino each handing her €300!
It took longer than she would like to admit for the shock to wear off, but she was smart enough to stick to her original story. “It’s fake! Marinette must have made it to get me in trouble. Max probably helped her, he’s really good with computers. It’s all too convenient to be true. I mean, she sends you all this information about which people are going, how much money they gave me, and a story about a party on a private island in Venice, that anyone would be able to see is clearly fake. Can’t you see that I’m being set up?”
Her mother’s eyes grew harder as she stood from her chair, causing Lila to shrink even further into her own.
“You say that this is all a set up and you had no idea where your classmates were going in Italy, but you just told me the exact city where they were found. You left them waiting on a dock for you to come ferry them to that non-existent private island, and don’t even bother saying that you know which city because of the video I just showed you, because it never names the city they were in.”
Well, crap. She was about to try another tactic, but her mother cut her off before the first syllable left her mouth.
“Young lady, do you have any idea how much trouble you are in?” she yelled, her face beginning to turn a purplish-red and began pacing the room. “You forged my signature on multiple federal documents, endangered the lives of multiple minors, committed theft, and god knows how many other laws you’ve broken. I can’t protect you from this! You will be facing federal charges for what you’ve done!”
Lila felt her stomach drop to her ankles. “But-but that was all in Paris, and I had diplomatic immunity while I was there!”
“It became an international incident when you forged an ambassador’s signature on federal documents that endangered minors! My boss gave me a choice,” her voice grew even harder and colder than before. “Either you answer for what you’ve done and plead guilty, or I lose my job and we both go to trial for what you’ve done.”
“You’d let me go to jail for one little lie? It’s not like anyone got hurt!” Lila screamed, standing from her chair in a panic. This was much worse than she’d imagined.
“And what if they had been?” Her mother screamed back. “What if they had been kidnapped and sold into human trafficking? What if one of them had fallen off the dock and drowned in the channel or hit by a boat? I would be held responsible for that because you forged my signature! Do you not care about the people around you at all? What is wrong with you?”
“But nothing happened to them! It’s their own fault for being stupid enough to believe such an obvious lie. And you’re taking their side over mine? How dare you call yourself my mother and claim to love me!”
“Don’t you dare try to blame me for your bad behavior!” Her mother yelled back as she advanced on her, making her fall back onto the chair. Mme. Rossi looked back at the shopping bags she had knocked over when she had turned, revealing the Versace bag. Tilting her head back, she took multiple deep breaths before looking at her daughter.
“This is what’s going to happen. You are going to return everything you bought today, and you are going to explain to the managers of each store exactly why you are returning everything.” Lila was about to protest, but one look from her mother had her mouth snapping shut. “We will also be clearing out your savings to pay back your classmates for the money you took, their travel expenses, their parents travel expenses, and any money they lost while being away from their jobs to retrieve their children. After that, you will be standing trial for forgery and fraud. If you know what’s good for you, you will go before the judge and apologize profusely for what you’ve done and listen to everything the judge tells you. If you’re lucky you may receive a lenient sentence; but either way, you can expect your next school to be a reformatory school. And if you try to fight me on any of this, I will let a court appointed attorney with no experience handle your case instead of the family lawyer. Have I made myself clear?”
No longer having to fake her tears, Lila nodded to her mother, resigning herself to the fact that her life had been ruined because her mother didn’t love her and Marinette didn’t know how to keep her nose out of where it didn’t belong.
~oOo~
The rest of the day, Lila was forced to return everything that she bought back to the stores and tell the managers how she had stolen the money from her classmates and then abandoned them in a country and city that they weren’t familiar with. The people that overheard her were horrified by what she had done and the managers banned her from ever shopping in those stores again. After all, if she was willing to steal money from her friends, there was little doubt that she would steal from the stores.
After everything was returned, she was taken to the embassy where they recorded her confession on how she lied to everyone, forged her mother’s signature on the documents she stole, and how she scammed over €2,000 from her former classmates. After the confession was taped, she was taken outside of the embassy and handed over to the police to be kept in a juvenile detention center. She screamed at her mother, not believing that she would just hand her over like that, but the woman looked down her nose at her and said, “It’s time for you to face the consequences of your actions, young lady.”
When she arrived at the police station, she was relieved to see their family lawyer was waiting for her, although he was less than thrilled by what she had done. He explained that even as a minor, she could be serving 2-6 years just for the forgery of the documents, that wasn’t even factoring in the scam or reckless endangerment of seven minors. If she were to be tried as an adult, she could be serving 6 years for each document, facing serious fines and more time for each classmate she endangered.
After hearing that, Lila had to rush to the trash can to throw up. She couldn’t believe that one little lie could get her into so much trouble. But this wasn’t her fault, none of it was. If there was anyone to blame, it was that goody-two-shoes Marinette Dupain-Cheng. After all the effort she went through to destroy that girl, she just wouldn’t back down. She would make that girl pay for what she’d done. As soon as the charges were all dropped, she would do everything she could, use every dirty trick in the book to force the nosy girl to end her life and stay out of hers.
But that would have to wait for now. For the time being, she would do what her mother said and play her part. Act like the innocent girl that had gotten caught up in her own fibs while trying to make friends in a new country. She didn’t mean for anyone to get hurt or in trouble, she was just so overwhelmed and she is so sorry for everything that happened. She would need to cry a lot, that was a given, but she could do this. Just fake it until she could get her revenge on the girl that ruined her life.
~oOo~Three Months Later~oOo~
Lila hadn’t meant to lose control in front of the judge. She’d spent months locked away with a bunch of low-class delinquents, talking to different lawyers and quack-doctors before going to court. She had been the picture of innocence and childhood regret the second she walked into the courtroom, she was sure to get off all the charges against her. But she and her lawyer had been blindsided.
The quack-doctors had called her a narcissist and a sociopath, in need of desperate help. To prove that, all of her lies, everything she had said while in Paris had been brought into evidence against her. They’d exposed her truancy and forgery at her old school, found proof of her purposefully getting Marinette expelled, and faking interviews on the Ladyblog which brought her more lawsuits from a bunch of the celebrities she’d lied about.
Some of her classmates had come to give testimony on what she had done and said during her time in Paris. The goodie-two-shoes brat had even come to Italy to give testimony against her, though Lila hadn’t been allowed in the courtroom while she was there, as Marinette hadn’t felt safe to be in the same room. Lila’s lawyer had actually agreed, probably so she wouldn’t cause a scene. And she probably would have. She would have stabbed her in the face with a pencil, in front of the entire courtroom, if she had the chance.
But the worst had to do with the school security cameras. After M. Damocles and Mme. Bustier had been fired for neglectful and abusive behavior to their students, which had been brought about by the investigation into Marinette’s expulsion, the Board of Governors went farther back through the recordings to see how long the bullying had been going on. What they found was video evidence of Lila grabbing an akuma out of the air and putting it into her earring, and then willingly working with the known terrorist.
To make matters even worse, Ladybug and Chat Noir had sent a video as testimony of the times Lila had purposefully interfered with their rescues and had led Chat away from Ladybug to make her more vulnerable to the akuma Oni-chan. Her lawyer tried to get the video stricken from evidence as he couldn’t cross-examine the two heroes, but it was denied.
Her parents had been sitting behind her when they showed those videos. When her mother saw them, it was like she completely shut down. She heard her say that she wanted to leave, and Lila watched as her father helped her mother to her feet and lead her out of the courtroom without looking back.
The judge had been absolutely disgusted with her, going as far as to call her a monster for willingly aiding a terrorist. Since she had already confessed to multiple counts of forgery, fraud, and reckless endangerment of minors, and would now be adding slander and other charges from her time in Paris, the most notable being terrorism; he declared that she would be tried as an adult and was likely to spend the rest of her life in prison.
She’d completely lost it at that point, screaming at the top of her lungs as she jumped over the table to attack the judge. She didn’t remember smashing the water pitcher against one guard's head, scratching another guard across the face, or getting tasered in the back. When she woke up, she was strapped to a bed by her wrists and ankles, her head felt really foggy, and there were a bunch of nurses and orderlies that were keeping keen eyes on her.
Lila Rossi spent the rest of her life heavily medicated in a maximum security mental health hospital. Most every night, the nurses would hear her plotting some kind of scheme to show everyone what a loser Marinette was, but then she would trail off about how she wanted to hear the song Jagged Stone wrote for her or the album she’d help Clara Nightingale write. When she saw people, she would ramble and lie about being a princess or a secret agent, and that she was only here to keep her safe until they came to get her. Over the years, it was all written off as the insane ramblings of a very disturbed girl that would be remaining at the hospital for the rest of her life.
Didn’t Need Burrow (May 3rd-May 22nd)
Anonymous said:
Don’t Need Burrow to know that Ladybug’s distrust of Volpina will be played off as though she was simply jealous of her because she thought she was going to steal Adrien/Chat, even though she didn’t like Chat! Oh, but she did, she didn’t know it yet. That’s why she kissed him in Dark Cupid!
Not like she didn’t have a bunch of other reasons to distrust Volpina.
(the show also does this a lot where Marinette has an extra reason on top of “““jealousy,”““ like in “Oni-Chan” where the thing she was concerned about actually ended up happening, but the fandom boils everything down to jealousy anyway)
Anonymous said:
Didn’t Need Burrow: Su Han will take the Miraculouses from all the girls because he thinks girls don’t have the “physical and mental fortitude” to be heroes, giving them tto guys instead. The girls will find out about each others’ identities and join in the battle to get their Miraculouses back without any powers, led by Marinette, despite the fact that the genre of Miraculous Ladybug is supposedly Magical GIRL and thus the girls being powerful should be a given
(there was another part to this but I didn’t get it all so I clipped this ask a bit so it could work alone)
tbh the true ending should just be Marinette and the girls kicking each misogynist to the curb without any powers, and Su-Han goes last.
Didn't Need Burrow: Luka and Zoe, from their styles and hints like the ice cream Luka holds in Truth and the flower on her shirt.... I'm sure at this point the writers will either send him on a tour with Jagged, or make him Zoe's bf offscreen somehow... Also more torture for Mari mentally :)
Of course. :)
Gotta make sure Marinette doesn’t have any choice but Adrien. :)
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Zoe will be Adrien's new love interest because she's "very sweet". Mari will be okay with it because she feels the Guardian must be alone. (And she's still punishing herself for hurting Luka.) The New-Bee and Chat also bond, making her feel even more alone. (But now Lila can't claim she's jealous and her hold over the class is lessened as Zoe becomes more popular.)
I’m super not here for Marinette punishing herself (and the show possibly presenting it as her “growing up” and “doing the right thing”) and for Ladybug getting jealous over the playboy cat.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Prince Ali/Rose turns out to be endgame, while Rose/Juleka gets Lukanette'd -- their relationship happened mostly off-screen and we only see them pulling apart. Juleka has to let Rose go so she can live out 'every girl's dream', possibly even being put on a bus/written out of the series.
In which the Couffaines aren’t allowed nice things because they’re poor-coded.
I can’t believe the Pig’s weapon is ACTUALLY a tambourine. I’ve had that down as my guess for the pig miraculous for ages but I never thought I’d actually be right. On that note - Didn’t Need Burrow: the Ox’s weapon will definitely be a hammer, and the Goat’s might be a shepherd’s crook or grappling hook, and the Rooster’s could be a horn.
Congrats on being right!
We’ll definitely see on the whole weapons things.
Anonymous said:
Don't Need a Burrow: That Rose's mysterious sickness from "Guiltrip" episode will be ignored in other episodes.
Honestly, it was ignored in “Guiltrip” too. Rose’s illness seemed to be related to headaches and then they literally have her headbanging in her transformation.
Anonymous said:
Don't Need a Burrow: After "Guiltrip", the dynamics of Juleka and Rose's relationship will revert to the "romantic standing next to each other somewhere in the background".
Just look at them doing [friendly task]... romantically!!
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Tikki's comments about not really understanding love are later treated as her being in denial about her being in love with Plagg. Because the two of them are 'soulmates' *just like Adrien and Marinette*, and there's no such thing as a PLATONIC bond. Plus, it's denying another feminine-identifying character the right to define and declare her own feelings -- she's not ALLOWED to not love him that way! If she says otherwise, she's either in denial or mistaken! Or both!
[flashbacks to “Animan” where Alya denies feelings for Nino as being “like a brother to her” and then gets together with him at the end of the episode]
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: In the upcoming Mr. Pigeon episode, Chat Noir's behaviour toward Mr. Ramier in Lies will not be brought up at all.
Yeah, this is why I knew writing “Lying on the Job” was the right choice. :P The show wasn’t going to do it.
(part of me hopes that this acts as a jinx but I doubt it)
soap-lady said:
Didn't Need Burrow: It will be revealed Adrien always knew about Mari's crush. He tells Plagg it's because not only would rejecting a friend be hard, her akuma would be even scarier than her dad. He later admits at the end of the episode to Plagg that having an "awesome person like Marinette" crushing on him makes him feel good about himself. The show will frame this as charming rather than egotistical.
wow i hate it
throw the whole man away, Marinette
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: The "reverse love square" will happen as a result of Adrien being drunk on a love potion/under the control of a spell which makes him fall for Marinette. This will result in Marinette being uncomfortable with Adrien's relentless pursuit of her...AGAIN...which is, of course, played for laughs...AGAIN. Her friends will probably shame her, saying, "why are you so upset? You used to like Adrien and now he's returning that affection! What is WRONG with you, Marinette?". Meanwhile, during battle sequences Chat Noir will be less playful and intrusive of Ladybug's personal space because he's in love with Marinette now and not her, which is good(minus the"in love with Marinette" part, obvs), except that it will cause Ladybug to suddenly fall in love with the new Chat Noir who is being respectful(and "just like Adrien used to act"), and she'll act like a giddy schoolgirl over him, which will be used to humiliate her for comedy as Chat treats her like a freak now. And no, the show will NOT "call him out" for suddenly being averse to the affections of the "girl of his dreams" but will treat him as justified, because guys who pursue girls are gentlemanly and entitled to love back, while girls who pursue guys are pushy and obnoxious. There will even be a lesson on how you shouldn't have to put up with unwanted advances. Chat will be the one to learn it. There will also be a lesson on how you can't force someone to love somebody else. Adrien will be the one to learn it.
Wow, how’d you get the synopsis to Season 5? Impressive! (⊙o⊙)
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Chat will complain about Ladybug not trusting him, so she tries trusting him with further responsibilities which he then shirks, blows off and whines about. Naturally, Marinette is Wrong for DARING to think that her 'partner' should share more of the burden -- no, she HAS to carry everything herself and enable him to keep treating their duty as a game! It's not FAIR for her to expect anything more from him--!
oh my god
he would *gestures loudly to “Lies”*
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Chat Noir will *deliberately* mess up a vital task that Ladybug assigned/entrusted him with, either to punish her for some petty/imagined slight (which is treated as Incredibly Serious and Deserving his retaliation) or because he simply doesn't want to have to deal with the extra responsibility. Much like somebody who 'never learns' the right way to load a dishwasher/do laundry/other chores so that somebody more responsible is forced to pick up their slack.
Sounds about right.
“Bonus” if Chat Noir is presented as in the right because Ladybug’s task was “too difficult”/”she didn’t instruct him right”/”you can’t expect him to be perfect on his first try,” or Chat Noir’s shirking is treated as “payback” for something she did that he maybe doesn’t even know about.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Marinette gives up on becoming a fashion designer because her duties as Ladybug/Guardian take priority. Tikki protests not for Mari's sake, but because she enjoys her creative drive/justifies it as a form of honing Marinette's creativity. Thus the lesson is not that Marinette was Wrong because she deserves to have things that make her happy/goals outside of her duties, but because she can fold them into her Greater Purpose.
Miraculous: Tales of Marinette Not Being Allowed to Be Happy
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Chat Noir will be (temporarily) killed during one of his 'Pity/Praise Me!' stints, because he decides that he can't function without Ladybug kissing his ass and she's too busy fighting the akuma to coddle him. Naturally, this is presented as Marinette's F-Up of the Week that she must fix at all costs and apologize for, insisting once more that she 'can't do this without him' despite being constantly forced to do this without him.
It’s Ladybug’s fault that Chat keeps sacrificing himself, obviously! She’s just not telling him not to in the rIgHt wAy, and she should be
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Ladybug will finally learn the truth about how Theo was akumatized, but Chat Noir will insist that he didn't lie and that she really WAS to blame for it. And anyway, that was 'so long ago' that she's not allowed to be mad over it anymore. (Bonus: this or other episodes will have callbacks showing that Adrien is still salty over things like being 'stood up', with HIS frustration presented as perfectly valid, as there's no expiration date on HER screw-ups.)
[flashbacks to “Stormy Weather 2″ where Plagg retcons Ladybug’s avoidance of Chat’s date as her standing him up]
+ Yeah, I don’t see Adrien not having expiration dates on his mistakes, and his are always for the better (i.e: stealing the book in “Volpina,” which was wrong obviously, and then Marinette covered for him immediately to get him back into school).
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Chloe is given a 'redemption arc' after all... in the vein of her falling for Kim or some other male character and being convinced to change her ways for/by them. On top of being grossly sexist, this lets them slam Marinette even more, painting her as a failure who couldn't help Chloe despite that never being her responsibility in the first place.
“Bonus” if it’s Luka who does it.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Rather than confirming Juleka/Rose, CHLOE is officially revealed to be a closeted lesbian, retconning all of her bullying into the tried-and-trite 'They're only tormenting you because they LIIIIIKE you'. Bonus points if this is used to reinforce the notion that Chloe is irredeemable because 'Evil Jilted Lesbian can't be saved by Hetero LI'/she lied about crushing on Adrien/other toxic and heteronormative bullshit. AND her evilness is Mari's fault for not loving her back!
It’s always Marinette’s fault for not loving people back.
Also, this just reminds me of how much I hate the “lesbian bully” trope fdkjgdfgdfg.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Chat Noir throws another Pity Me Party in the middle of a fight; Ladybug is sniped by the akuma while scolding him to stop fooling around. Naturally, this is presented as HER fault for not immediately accommodating his demands for attention. After saving her, Chat mockingly echoes her words about concentrating and keeping her head in the game.
╰(‵□′)╯
EVERY TIME!!
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Chloe gets another chance at redemption by learning how to mimic Adrien/Lila and feign niceness. Whether or not her 'redemption' sticks depends upon her patience level; if she sticks to it and 'grows' into another Lila/holier-than-thou lecturer like Adrien, it's considered good (and Adrien gets full credit for helping her change 'for the better'), but if she goes back to being *openly* judgy and bitchy, it's another sign that she's 'irredeemable'.
Ugh, when Chloe’s options are either to be a Lila or an Adrien. All I feel is disgust.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: The Love Square is reversed when Adrien learns Ladybug's secret identity and decides to focus on pursuing her as Marinette. Mari is put off by his advances/still convinced that she can't HAVE a romantic relationship with all her other responsibilities, and is further distracted and concerned by Chat Noir growing distant (as he's bitter over his failures and taking it out on LB/holding a grudge after learning she confided in ALYA and not HIM).
i hate it
And of course the method of “now she’s not interested so I’M interested.”
Anonymous said:
Didnt Need to Burrow: Despite being 'twins' with Juleka, Luka will never show up in another episode. Ever. And the only mentions of him are only about the breakup. Even in Juleka-centric episodes, Luka will only be a passing mention. Oh, and Juleka will 100% stick to just mumbling outside of episodes where shes akumatized. Because gIrL poWeR
I’m honestly just--expecting Luka to have like one/two episodes, maybe to get a charm, and then he’s gone forever.
I don’t know if it’s a mercy or an insult, but the constant mentions of the break-up between Marinette and He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named-Outside-Of-Spiting-Him definitely are an insult.
ANYTHING BUT THAT.
Didn’t Need Burrow: Ladybug and Cat Noir will be able to power up in some way, but they have to form a special bond (this is implied to be a romantic bond). They use this power up to defeat Hawk Moth. bEcAusE tHe pOWeR oF “LoVe” cOnQUerS aLL! Bonus if the characters imply that Ladybug should’ve accepted his affections sooner (Adrien won’t be mentioned at all, i wonder why:p)
I’m cringing so hard right now. I hate everything about this because you sound so correct.
Anonymous said:
Don't Need a Burrow: Lila will be written out/ret-conned from a show because she was only a Unredeemed!Chloe stand-in for time of Chloe "redemption arc". Every speculation about Lila (next Hawkmoth etc) will be applied to Chloe instead as a "plot twist".
I’m half-expecting that she’ll get akumatized as a season finale bad guy, then just immediately move.
Anonymous said:
Didn't need Burrow: Alya is the one who comes up with the akuma repellent charms and Marinette is going to be jealous that Alya is so much a better guardian. Alya'll also probably be able to wrangle the kwamis better than Marinette.
Honestly I might as well just put this one on the card right now. :P
Anonymous said:
Didnt Need Burrow: When Ladybug tells Chat that she told somebody her secret identity, hes gonna be mad, talking about how she broke his trust and the show will portray it as her fault for breaking under the pressure of being guardian. Meanwhile the fandom is gonna be mad at Ladybug. Ignoring, of course, the entirety of the New York Special.
We could sum up the fandom card as just, “Adrien is right and a sad uwu sunshine child, Marinette is wrong and OP and doesn’t give Chat the respect he deserves.”
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Rose's 'mysterious illness' will naturally flare up during times where Pigella might have been useful, with Ladybug getting blamed for her flare-ups/worsening condition.
Anonymous said:
Didn’t Need Burrow: Building off of the “Adrien knows about Marinette’s crush and manipulated her for it”, any time Marinette does something Adrien doesn’t agree with or disagrees with Adrien himself, Adrien will play the cute, naïve, sad boi we all know and “love”, complete with Bambi eyes and gratuitous long eyelashes, forcing Marinette to give in to what he wants. This is treated as cute, quirky, and hilarious, never abusive, selfish, or misogynistic.
I mean, considering Chat Noir and “Chameleon,” yeah.
Anonymous said:
Don't Need a Burrow: a) Episode, where Chat Noir is even worse than in "Lies" b) Situation where Chat Noir during meeting with Ladybug is like always (M'lady, Bugaboo, unwanted psychical contact etc.) then Ladybug reveals that she recognized him as impostor because "real Chat Noir never will be so pushy" (bonus points if false Chat Noir is akumatized Felix) c) Writers somehow manage to put both above options in one episode (obviously with real Chat Noir being even worse than his impostor)
“Copycat” but worse
Didn't Need Burrow to somehow correctly predict Zoe's identity as a joke based solely on some blurry pictures and an offhand comment about "secret siblings". Like, a YEAR or two ago.
I’m guessing this is referring to the writers creating her?
Because yeah, probably.
Didn't need the Burrow: We will get Lukagami. One of the reasons will be the clash of the Tsurugi-Motto of "No Second Chances" and Luka's snake power of "Second Chance" resulting in some weird sparks flying.
Didn't need burrow: Guilt trip hints at Adrien having actual depression, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but knowing the show, two things will happen: 1. His depression will only exist to make people feel bad for him instead of exploring his mental state and seeing him working through it, and 2. his depression will be magically cured when the LS becomes canon because "true love heals all your mental issues".
All of the above, yes. :|
Didn't Need Burrow: Ladybug gets a fresh new look (for the sake of more Real-Life ML Merch), and Chat Noir gets sulky about it. Both because he didn't get an upgraded appearance at the exact same time (despite doing absolutely nothing to earn it), and because he didn't get any input on her new look. So he passive-aggressively complains about the change, saying he preferred 'classic Bugaboo', and Marinette is presented as Wrong for not letting him dictate her power or appearance.
*stares at “Mr. Pigeon 72″* I’m waiting.
Didn't need burrow: Imagine after you made that fic where Bustier and D'argencourt get the miraculous they reveal in the show that Bustier's husband/boyfriend/fiance is D'argencourt.
I WILL DIE.
OF LAUGHTER? OF PAIN???
THE ANSWER IS “YES.”
“Bonus” if it’s a DJWifi dynamic where Bustier can get D’Argencourt to do whatever she wants and suddenly becomes aggressive/upset when he doesn’t, which D’Argencourt immediately folds to (because the only “““girl power”““ the show knows is “lol girls are scary when they’re mad”).
Didn't Need Burrow: The Love Square gets 'Reversed' via Alya deciding that Marinette MUST have a crush on Chat as well, since she personally ships LadyNoir. All insistence to the contrary is waved off as denial, and Alya is bound and determined to hook up her BFF with ONE of her crushes, come hell or high water. Thus, Mari gets shoved towards Chat in much the same way she's forced towards Adrien, creating much awkward hilarity at her expense.
Marinette’s entire being: i want to go home
Didn't Need Burrow: Alya learns about Marinette getting jilted by Chat Noir during 'Weredad', possibly from Tom and/or Sabine.  She rubs this into Mari's face as proof positive that she really DOES have a thing for Chat, crowing about how she 'does her research' while teasing her about her awful luck with guys. This casual cruelty is 'balanced' by her insistence that she'll help her hook up with ONE of them by forcing her towards both.
Alya, looking at her plans and just shrugging: Hey, now her odds of getting a guy are doubled as far as I’m concerned.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Alya will insist that all of Marinette's romantic woes are her own fault due to her being interested in multiple guys. (Mainly meaning Adrien and Chat Noir; 50-50 on whether she acknowledges Luka's existence as more than just proof of her 'fickle heart'.) She 'supports' her by shoving her into humiliating scenarios with her love interests, blaming all her failures on her 'divided loyalties' and giving her grief for being a 'dirty two-timer' that can't even get off first base.
Yyyyup.
And of course Luka would only be mentioned to shade Marinette.
Didn't Need Burrow: Tikki will keep nagging Marinette about her inability to solve her romantic woes until Mari snaps that Tikki doesn't know what she's talking about, throwing her own words about how kwami don't understand love back in her face. Naturally, this is Mari's Mistake Of The Week, as Tikki is driven to tears over the rebuke and all the other kwami get pissed off at Marinette for upsetting her, giving her grief until she apologizes.  Tikki barely apologizes in return, if at all.
Ugh, I am just dreading an almost-inevitable “all the kwami are mad at Marinette” episode, since Marinette literally cannot escape from them since the Miracle Box is in her room.
(Mylene's personality anon) Don't Need a Burrow: Mylene's "Marinette's trait" will manifest in Multimouse!Mylene's introduction episode.
Don't Need a Burrow: Characters who are popular fandom choices for alternate Miraculous Holders (Bee!Aurore, Fox!Lila, Cat!Felix etc) are akumatized into evil versions of Core Five Miraculous Team (Ladybug, Cat, Fox, Turtle and Bee)
Didn't Need Burrow: There will be more immediate self-contradictions, where Marinette is berated about how something she's doing/done is Wrong, badgered into following somebody else's 'good advice', and then promptly punished for doing so when the results blow up in her face.  These turnarounds will become so fast that they happen within the same episode.  Naturally, this is treated as entirely her fault.
At the rate her treatment is escalating, I would be 0% shocked. Still disappointed, but not shocked.
Don't Need a Burrow: It will turn out that the mysterious future Hawkmoth successor that Timetagger talked about is simply the Shadow Moth.
I laughed at this one so hard because it’s so accurate. I don’t know for sure if it’s a reference to the whole “new villain who’s been around since the beginning who just turned out to be Shadow Moth” thing but omg.
Didn't Need Burrow: The akuma-resisting pendants are used as an excuse to push Marinette even further past her breaking point, subjecting her to ever worse humiliations and traumas.  If the fact that she basically NEEDS the pendant to survive is ever brought up, it's in a chiding way; obviously, as Ladybug, she needs to be mentally stronger than this and not rely on a 'crutch'.  Nobody else is insulted for needed the pendants' protection.
Imagine the pendants as metaphors for medication and this takes on a whole new meaning.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: In a counterpart to "Chat Blanc", one episode visits a Bad Future where Marinette was akumatized.  Naturally, this is depicted as entirely her fault, with both Maris being raked over the coals.  No matter what the breaking point was, it's treated as though it was petty and pathetic for her to let it effect her so much.  For bonus points, this was at a point after she got the pendant, but she accidentally ditches or pitches it while reacting to whatever broke her back.
Especially with the reveal of two new seasons, I’m very much expecting Marinette to get akumatized at some point.
“Bonus” for a “Miracle Queen” set-up where Adrien needs to wear the ladybug miraculous and is suddenly good at it despite being awful at it before, ala Snake Noir.
Didn't Need Burrow: Marinette will wind up making most of the anti-akuma amulets.  This is purely so that, when they inevitably fail, she can be blamed for it.
It’ll probably be like--Marinette needed to do something specific to make the pendants and they’re “only as strong as she is.”
Didn't Need Burrow: The Love Square gets reversed when Alya decides she ships LadyNoir more than MariAdri, pushing her newfound agenda over her BFF's protests.  Meanwhile, Adrien reveals that he knew all along about Marinette's crush, starting to pursue her because he just doesn't uNdErStAnD why she's pulling away, feeling entitled to having her chasing after him even if he never intends to actually reciprocate.  Marinette is caught in the middle and blamed for all this drama.
Marinette, counting down the days where she can finally drink alcohol.
Didn't Need Burrow: One or some of Adrien/Chat Noir's past lies gets revealed to Marinette/Ladybug... for the sake of a moral about forgiveness and 'letting things go'.  Meanwhile, he continues to grouse and hold grudges against Ladybug for her supposed slights against HIM without being seriously challenged.
I’m seething.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Marinette is shown a 'better world' wherein she never developed a crush on Adrien.  In this 'better world', Ladybug and Chat Noir are romantic partners.  Bonus points if this pushes forward the agenda of reversing the Love Square by getting Marinette to start seriously considering Chat as a potential love interest, treating this as her 'missing the point' of what she was shown... even if the goal was rather unclear beyond guilt-tripping her for having FEELINGS and DESIRES.
The true goal/moral is that Chat’s feelings are valid while Marinette’s are not.
Don't Need a Burrow: Hawkmoth will somehow get Black Cat Miraculous and attack as Moth / Cat Fusion (Cat Moth?). After defeating this form, Black Cat Miraculous will be taken from him and without any questions returned to Adrien. Whole thing will happen in one episode.
“Bonus” if Hawk Moth just stumbles upon the ring and doesn’t question it.
Didn’t Need Burrow: All Ladybug and Black Cat Holders are soulmates/ have gotten romantically involved. This gives Chat even MORE motivation to invade LB’s boundari-I MEAN to pursue her. Also, LB reacts in horror to this (who wouldn’t?) but its played for laughs.
At this point, I feel like this is the only way for them to push the love square as hard as possible. “Chemistry” has just flown out the window and they need a crutch.
can we see damianette with v?
(Let me just say that I absolutely LOVE this concept!! I could write a whole ficlet on this one too! anyway, I hope you like the snippet as much as I did.)
Darkness. That was all Marinette had ever known. In fact, it was all a good portion of the world had ever known, and it was thanks to this little thing called Soulmates.
A long time ago, the gods decided that humans had become blind to the true purpose of love and romance. So, to remind them of this, they cursed the world with literal blindness, and the only way to nullify this curse was to touch your soulmate directly. Then, the gift of sight would be restored to both parties, and they would finally be able to see for the first time.
At first, Marinette was extremely excited to find her soulmate. After all, who wouldn’t be? The life of the seeing sounded wonderful, especially when her Maman and Papa would tell her stories of the sea and the stars. And having the love of your life, the person you’re going to be with forever, be the first thing you truly see? That sounded incredibly romantic, and she couldn’t wait to experience it.
As the years passed, though, and more people around her found their soulmate, the excitement that had been bubbling inside her began to fade, and a quiet resignation took its place. If she hadn’t found her soulmate yet, that meant she probably wasn’t going to be one of the lucky ones who found their soulmate early. Therefore, she needed to learn to be patient, instead of tearing herself apart with anticipation.
This revelation led to Marinette exploring her capabilities and becoming affiliated with her blindness as best she could. She could already get around fine, but she wanted to get around better than fine. She wanted to get around so well on her own that people forgot she was blind altogether. Then, perhaps, she would be able to forget too. Or at least forget that everyone but her could see.
She had just started being able to walk without using her cane when she received a pair of strange, magical earrings. The discovery was definitely a shock, but the thought of being able to push herself to the absolute limit as a superhero intrigued her. So, she accepted the earrings and became Ladybug, savior of Paris.
Imagine her surprise when she found out that her partner was also blind. He didn’t move around as easily as she did, but their gadgets helped them find their way well enough to fight. For example, her yo-yos would use beeping sequences to tell her when she was near something, while Chat Noir used his staff as a makeshift cane, and the akumas were normally loud enough that they didn’t have to guess their locations.
Alya joined their school around the same time that Marinette became Ladybug, and Marinette was absolutely delighted to meet her. Not only because the new student gave Nino his sight, but also because she was able to describe the colors to Marinette in a way that she could understand. Her parents had tried to tell her about the colors before and how beautiful they were, but in the end, the descriptions always depended on sight.
Alya, however, described them with feelings.
“Blue,” she would say, “is like dipping your hand into the pool. It’s cool and calm and sometimes sad, but it’s beautiful. It’s the color of the sky and the sea and your eyes.”
“Red is the color of heat, of anger, of blood.”
“Yellow is the color of sunshine on your skin and happiness and things that make you smile.”
“Green is the color of envy or disgust, but it’s also the color of summer’s grass.”
“Black is the color of darkness, the same thing you see now.”
Now that Marinette had at least somewhat of a shaky grasp on what colors were like, she wasn’t nearly as annoyed when Mlle Bustier decided to take the class to an art gallery during their field trip to Gotham. It was still an inconsiderate thing to do, but she had Alya to guide her if necessary and had heard about a section of the gallery that was made specifically for blind people. So she had hope that the visit wouldn’t be as awful as it sounded.
“Remember class,” her teacher called as she led everyone inside the gallery, “everyone needs to have a safety buddy at all times. Gotham is well known for its villain attacks, so stay together!”
Alya sighed next to her. “It’s not like it’s any different from our akuma attacks. Why all the fuss?”
“Well, the villains here don’t transform back once they’re caught.” Nino pointed out. “It’s kind of like a ton of Hawkmoths running around instead of akumas.”
Marinette nodded in agreement, though none of them were probably looking at her anyway.
“True, but they also have more super heroes here.” Alya argued. “Batman, Red hood, Nightwing, Robin- if a villain attacked us, they’d be surrounded in ten minutes!”
Marinette held back from commenting on that remark, but she knew from personal experience that superheroes had their own lives too. Just because a single villain showed up somewhere didn’t mean that all of the heroes in Gotham would show up at the same time to fight it, or that the villain would be any easier to take down once outnumbered.
She lightly touched Alya’s arm to get her attention. “I’m going to go find that blind section that Mlle Bustier was talking about .”
Alya paused her conversation with Nino to reply, “Do you want me to come with you?”
“Would you mind?”
“Of course not! I’ll go tell Mlle Bustier where we’re going, but you can start walking now if you don’t need any help?”
“No, I can manage.” Marinette smiled. Mlle Bustier had passed out a special map of the gallery the night before that had bumps for the walls and statues and braille to tell them which rooms were what. Besides, if she could fight akumas across the Parisian rooftops on a regular basis, she could certainly find her way around an art museum.
The two separated, Alya going right to speak with Bustier, and Marinette going left to find the blind room. She idly tapped her cane on her shoulder as she walked across the hardwood floors, the echoing footsteps and hushed talk of other visitors giving her directions on which way to step and which way to avoid. Some of the voices spoke in different languages, and it caused Marinette to wonder whether the people around her were tourists like herself or locals. Probably a decent mix of both.
When she was sure that she’d found the correct room- there was a sign with braille on it that said “blind section” - she let her cane tap against the floor and began wandering around the room. The pictures inside had bumpy textures for her to run her hands across, and the statues that were open to anyone above the age of eleven were a mix of grainy and smooth, most likely made from different types of rock. It was admittedly strange tracing her hands over things that were supposed to be human bodies, but if it was the only way to observe the master pieces..
A few minutes passed of her dragging her hands over the displays when something strange happened, something that made her pause.
Footsteps and voices had been a consistent background noise from the moment she walked into the gallery, but for some reason, both of those sounds abruptly stopped in the last minute of her being there, as though everyone that had been in the room with her suddenly left. That wasn’t possible, though, because she didn’t hear anyone leave, and she couldn’t fathom why a whole group of strangers would tip-toe out of a room to avoid being detected by her.
Before she could call out to the people who had to be around her, somebody gasped, proving that other people were, in fact, still in the room with her. Then, another person gasped, then three, and someone shrieked.
Now Marinette was panicking. What was going on? Why were they screaming? What did they see that she couldn’t?
Where footsteps had been scarce before, there were now footsteps everywhere, along with more screams. People were running, but from what? She didn’t hear anyone else enter the gallery, nor did she hear a villainous outburst.
Marinette strained her ears to listen for something more, something out of the ordinary that would cause people alarm, but it was hard to hear anything else over the screams. The only other thing she could catch was a strange, hissing sound. They couldn’t be running from that, though, could they? What would be making a hissing sound that had everyone bolting out of the gallery?
“Marinette!”
Alya’s voice nearly made Marinette jump five feet in the air out of fright, but she caught herself and turned towards the direction she assumed her friend was coming from.
“Alya, what’s going on?”
Somebody grabbed her arm, and Alya’s voice spoke up again right next to her. “We need to go. There’s this weird, green gas that’s filling the gallery, and it’s causing people to.. to..”
Alya’s explanation faltered as she let out a snort, which confused Marinette. Didn’t she sound panicked a second ago? Why was she laughing now? This wasn’t a prank, was it? No, Alya would do that..
Another laugh burst from her friend’s lips. Then another. It almost sounded like she was trying to contain it, like she was laughing against her will.
Marinette furrowed her eyebrows. What did she say about the gas again? It was causing people to do something? What if it was causing them to laugh?
“A-Alya?” Marinette said, trying to remain calm as she grabbed Alya’s shoulders. If the gas was causing people to laugh, does that mean she’s inhaled it already? Was the effect going to be permanent? Was it going to be fatal? Why would someone release that type of gas into an art gallery?
“Mari-Marine-” Alya wiggled out of Marinette’s grasp and began laughing harder. Marinette tried to grab her again, but her friend fell to the floor.
“Alya!” Marinette cried, kneeling down next to her. The girl was writhing on the floor now, cackling like she’d gone mad.
“G-Get- you need- you need to- need to go-” She said through laughs, but that was all she said. After that, Alya fell into a fit of uncontrollable laughter, and Marinette was left panicking and wondering what she should do. She could try to go get help, but she didn’t know where the gas was coming from. Even if she did, she had no way of knowing who might be waiting for her outside. The gas might be a way to push herself and the other civilians out onto the street.
Marinette stumbled to her feet and took a moment to listen to her surroundings again. She could still hear screams, but they were more towards the back of the gallery, while laughter could be heard towards the front. That meant the gas must have come through the front entrance. Was that the hissing sound she’d heard earlier?
Just as she was about to call out Tikki to give her a visual on the gallery, another sound reached her ears. This time it was a clicking, similar to that of metal being hooked onto something, and it came from above her. Was someone on the ceiling? What would they be doing up there? How would they get up there in the first place?
A whizzing sound followed the click, and Marinette tensed as she listened to it grow closer. Something or someone was coming towards her. Was it the villain who spread the gas? Why didn’t she hear it move on the ceiling beforehand? Was she going to have to defend herself and Alya as a civilian?
A pair of boots hit the hardwood floor, and Marinette shifted into a fighting stance, holding her cane up like a sword. If she had to go, she didn’t plan on going easily. “Who are you?”
“My name is Robin.” The response was quick, almost automatic. “We’re evacuating the premises. I need you to come with me.”
Marinette hesitated. Wasn’t Robin one of the heroes Alya had mentioned? The person in front of her sounded like another teenager. (Then again, being a teenager didn’t stop her from saving Paris on a weekly basis)
A leather glove wrapped around her fore-arm- his hand, she realized -and he pulled her against him.
“Hold on tight.”
Hold on tight? “What do you me-”
Robin clicked a button, and with a sharp tug, they were flying through the air. Marinette let out a yelp, and then she did something that changed her life forever.
She wrapped her hands around his neck.
As soon as she did, a bright flash of light invaded her vision, and suddenly, colors were everywhere. There were light colored walls and dark colored floors- perhaps that was the brown she’d heard about? -and the statues were a mix of light and dark colors, similar to the marble rock that she’d been taught about. And the paintings- oh, the paintings were just bursting with color and life! It all looked positively extraordinary and amazing and-
Robin gasped above her, no doubt from the shock of seeing as well. His hand must have slipped from whatever was pulling them upwards, because in the next moment they were falling back to the ground. (And she could see it! She didn’t have to hear the rush of wind or feel the pit of her stomach rising to know!)
The two hit the ground with a grunt, and Robin swiftly shifted their position to use his body as a shield to protect Marinette from further injuries as they rolled across the floor. This resulted in Marinette landing on top of Robin and Robin rubbing the back of his head with another groan.
“A-Are you okay?” She asked as she pushed herself up to hover over him. That fall didn’t feel too steep, but having extra weight on top of him most certainly would have made the landing worse.
Now that she could actually see the person in front of her with her own eyes, she could tell that he was definitely a superhero. He had an entire costume on, equipped with a cape and everything. She even spotted a utility belt on his waist that appeared to have a hefty amount of gadgets on it.
Robin looked up at her, and though his mask hindered her view of his eyes, the surprise was clear on his face as his eyebrows shot up.
“Who..” He trailed off, his head tilting slightly as he glanced around the room. He was still absorbing the fact that he could finally see, just as she was.
His gaze snapped back to her. “Who are you?”
I could ask you the same question. She thought. After fifteen years of searching, she’d finally found her soulmate, and not only did he live halfway across the world from her, but was also a superhero just like her. What were the odds?
Reality slapped both of them in the face when another scream pierced the air, and the two scrambled to get back to their feet. Soulmates or not, they were still in the middle of a villain attack. They couldn’t get distracted.
People were still laughing hysterically on the floor, but now a strange gas was trailing into the blind section. Marinette knew she should be panicked seeing it, considering what it did to Alya, but another part of her felt giddy, because Alya had also told her that the gas was green. She finally knew what green looked like!
“We have to get out of here.” Robin said. He pulled something off of his utility belt- was that a gun? -and shot it upwards. Marinette’s gaze immediately followed it curiously, and she managed to catch sight of a shiny object latching onto an open hole in the rooftop. It made a clicking sound, reminding her of the sound she’d heard when Robin first swooped into the gallery.
So, that’s how he got in here. She thought to herself.
Robin pulled her against his chest again, clicking the same button he had earlier to start rising to the roof. “No surprises this time, all right?”
Marinette couldn’t help the laugh that burst from her lips, but it wasn’t because of the gas. The ludicrousness of the situation was simply too much. Who asks their soulmate not to give them another surprise such as the gift of sight? Who finds their soulmate in the hero who’s saving them during a villain attack?
Apparently, Marinette does, and this field trip, she decided, was turning out to be much more interesting than originally expected.
(Send me a letter and I’ll do a thing!)
Ten Questions With A Twist  Chapter 7 (Final Chapter)
Here ya go!  Final chapter! So exciting! Please don’t hesitate to comment and tell me what you think of it and what you would like to see in the next fic!
~ Chapter 1 ~ Chapter 2 ~ Chapter 3 ~ Chapter 4 ~ Chapter 5 ~ Chapter 6 ~ This Chapter ~
Patrol that night couldn’t have come fast enough. Adrien got there about fifteen minutes early, only to be surprised that Ladybug was already at their meeting place. When he saw her the realization hit him all over again. There, on the ledge of the Eiffel Tower, was Marinette Dupain-Cheng, in a magical suit and a magical mask. She glanced up and him and beamed. His heart melted. There was only one more step to the plan.
“Evening, my lady! How are you fairing on this lovely parisian night?”
Ladybug sighed and smiled, staring at the city before her. “I’m doing… really well. I’ve got all those answers, if you’re ready for them.” She turned so she was sitting cross legged next to Chat, who had sat down to her right.
“I actually have one more question for you to ask him.” Chat focused on his dangling legs, not brave enough to make eye contact with what he was about to say.
“You’re never going to guess all these answers, kitty.”
He responded, glancing her direction, “I have my ways.”
“Alright what’s this question?”
Still not daring to make eye contact, he mustered up enough courage and told her the addition to the list. Her reaction was immediate.
“No. No way, Chat, I absolutely cannot ask him that question! I barely got through the ten you already gave me and that question is a million times worse than any of them! I’m simply not capable!”
Chat shrugged, having expected something along these lines. “You’re capable of anything, Bugaboo. But you don’t have to ask it if you don’t want to. I’ll have the answer either way.”
“He could be anybody, Chat. How can you be so sure? Really, tell me.”
“I’ll tell you what, Bug. Ask the question or don’t. Either way, I’ll explain everything tomorrow night, if you’re willing to listen.”
The next day at school, Adrien couldn’t contain his excitement. Knowing Marinette, he didn’t bother getting to school early. He did, however, wait outside until he saw her run up the sidewalk. Not as late as she had been the day before, but still in a hurry nonetheless. He stood there, frozen for a minute. He watched as she met up with Alya and chatted a bit as they walked up to the steps. He stared in horror as she glanced in his direction to find him gazing at her.
Suddenly, Adrien realized he wasn’t excited. He was nervous. Like, REALLY nervous. Because if she worked up the courage to ask that question then he would have to work up the courage to answer it. He would have to answer that question that he gave her. THE question. Holy shit, he couldn’t do this. He was sweating. And she was walking towards him. She was blushing, but grew more concerned as she grew near. Adrien felt the sweat trickle down his neck and his face grow flush. He could only imagine what horrifying monstrosity his face had mangled itself into.
But Marinette was in front of him. She waved her hand in front of his face and he snapped out of it.
“Are you okay, Adrien? You don’t look too good.”
Adrien cleared his throat before he dared to answer, “Oh, me? Yeah I think I just need some fresh air.”
Marinette looked around her. “Well you’re already outside, so hopefully that will help. Did you need me to take you to the nurse’s office?”
“No,” he waved his hands in front of him, “I’m just gonna run to the bathroom and splash some water on my face.”
“Okay. And I want you to know,” she lowered her voice so nobody else could hear them, “If you think this might be a panic attack, I know all sorts of techniques to help with that. Breathing exercises and pressure points in your hands, the whole deal. They’re nothing to be ashamed of.”
Oh god, he fell in love with her all over again. He suddenly felt like crying, just because her gaze was so comforting. She stared into his eyes and smiled the most genuine smile. He found himself being drawn to her. Faster than he had control over, he glanced down to her lips and found that she did the same. Microscopically, they grew closer. This, Adrien thought, was not part of the plan. But who am I to resist?
“Adrien! Bro!” Nino called, snapping the two out of their shared reverie. Nino ran up to them, completely oblivious to the fact that he was interrupting something. “Hey, are you alright, dude? I’ve been calling your name for like two full minutes.”
“Yeah,” Adrien shrugged his way out of the awkward air that surrounded them, daring to look at Marinette, he found she was doing much the same. She wasn’t making eye contact and instead she was studying the hem of her sleeve.
And so the day went on.
And on.
And on.
Adrien got in close proximity to Marinette as often as he could, but once she saw him, Marinette would only blush and walk away. A handful of times she was the one that approached him, but they both lost their nerve before the question was asked or answered.
All too soon, and yet not soon enough, that evening’s patrol was about to start. Chat found himself circling the block a few times, trying to run off his adrenaline. He thought he had purged himself clean of it, but when he landed at their meeting place, his heart started racing again.
This was it. This was the moment.
“Did you ask that question?” Chat asked, settling down on her left side this time.
Ladybug sighed, “I tried, Chat, I honestly did. But I just couldn’t. Everytime I attempted, my heart started beating so fast and I got in my own head and then I pictured his response and was wondering if it was going to be the response that I wanted or if it was if he would even be able to say that to me or even-”
“Hey! It’s okay! Calm down, you’ll hyperventilate. A friend told me today about breathing exercises and pressure points. Do you know any?”
Ladybug paled, but after a moment took a deep breath and dug her thumb into her opposite hand.
“It’s alright that you didn’t ask. I know the answer anyway.”
“Alright, Chat,” Ladybug relaxed and looked her partner in the eyes, “I’ve waited a day. Now tell me how you know these answers. Because, unless you have proof, I’ll never believe you know the answer to that question.”
Chat was leaning back on the palms of hands, and glanced at Ladybug. “You want proof?” he asked, trying to be casual.
Ladybug looked at him, concern and something unnamed in her eyes, “Desperately.”
“Alright. I’ll tell you. But I need you to promise me something.”
Ladybug sat up straighter when she saw Chat do the same, “Whatever you need.”
“Promise me you won’t interrupt me. I honestly don’t think I’ll be able to finish saying what I have to say if you stop me at any point.”
Her eyes grazed the skyline, something in her knowing that things were about to change. “I promise. I’m ready.”
Chat faced his partner and crossed his legs.
“This boy you like has blonde hair and green eyes. He’s really good at fencing and loves his friends,” somewhere in his mind, Chat was aware that these weren’t the answers, but he couldn’t help himself. He needed to describe himself fully. “But you already knew that.” He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. “Man, this is harder than I thought it would be.” Ladybug put a hand on his knee. Not interrupting, because she promised she wouldn’t, but just making enough contact to let him know she was listening.
Chat continued, “This boy you like wants to visit Italy. He’s been before but never got to sightsee because of his father’s business. His favorite animals are cats, and if he could have any pet in the world he would have a black cat named the Plague. His worst fear is that he’s going to work for his father his whole life when he actually wants to be a stay at home dad one day. His favorite movie is The Princess Bride and he even referenced it when he was asked what his name was by responding ‘Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.’ If he were stuck on an island he would bring his three best friends to keep him company. He said he goes to Hogwarts and you were really frustrated that he wasn’t giving you straight answers. His favorite dessert is the macarons from your parents bakery. And, my lady, if you had asked him that question, the one I begged you to ask him.” Chat looked her in the eyes for the first time since he started talking, “If you had worked up the nerve to ask and he had worked up the nerve to answer, I would have told you that I am in love with Ladybug, but I’m really starting to fall for you too, Marinette.”
Her eyes were red-rimmed and watery. The two just stared at each other for a moment. There was only silence between them, heavy and filled with something neither of them could name. Chat was forcing himself not to think about what he just did, if only because she hadn’t responded yet. Ladybug’s lips were wavering, but not in a frown or a smile, only twitching as if they were eager to say something but hadn’t been given a script. Chat was about to run away- go around Paris and chase rooftops while he tried not to consider the damage he had just done to the most important relationship in his life.
But then he heard a chuckle, short and sweet. Tears were streaming down her face, but the chuckle built itself up into a giggle and then into the sounds of laughter. If that sound, still, he thought, the most beautiful sound in the world, was any indication, those were tears of joy falling between them.
Ladybug clutched her stomach in laughter and her heart in joy. Chat heard her talk through her laughter, “You’re such an asshole! You made me reconsider my sexuality!” She was leaning towards him with tears still in her eyes, staring at him incredulously, “You actually had me thinking I might have been poly!”
It was impossible for Chat to stifle his own laugh, “Hey, you had me thinking the same thing before I figured it out!”
Something magnetic within her drew her closer to Chat, “I can’t believe it, she spoke, mostly to herself, “I fell in love with the same boy twice.” Chat could barely hear her over the sounds of the city, “Chat, I think you should ask out this girl.”
At full volume, he leans his head down so he could catch her eye, “Would you go out with me, Ladybug?”
Another laugh erupted from her, this time loud enough for the whole world to hear, “Silly kitty. Superheroes can’t date! I think you’d be much happier if your civilian self asked out that Marinette girl. I have a feeling she’ll say yes.”
The Ghost of Smokey Joe (3)
Lullaby of the Leaves
Ao3 | FF.net
--
Marinette laid on her bed. Her bed that she would have to vacate soon so Alya and Nino could live in domestic bliss in peace.
Besides, she didn’t want to overhear their nightly trysts.
She still had some time, though. If only cheaper apartments were available.
Then again, she could just move back in with her parents. They lived close enough to the Agreste mansion that it wouldn’t be a bad idea. But going from independence to living back home? Could she bear it?
“Hmm,” Tikki stated, munching on a cookie.
“What?”
“I was just thinking…”
“About?”
“There hasn’t been an Akuma attack in a week.”
Marinette gasped as she sat up. “You’re right! With all this drama at work and with Adrien, I hadn’t even noticed! Wow. Can you imagine how much more stressful this week would have been if there was even one?”
“Guess you lucked out! Maybe Hawkmoth also caught cancer-strep-pneumonia-bronchitis!”
“Oh come on Tikki, that’s not funny!”
“I just think you need to grill him some more. He’s hiding something.”
“Obviously.” Marinette checked the time. 10 minutes until her Thursday night patrol. “I could always ask Chat. He’s good for bouncing ideas off of.”
“Be careful,” Tikki warned.
“I’ll be as vague as humanly possible.” Then she transformed, and left through the window.
Rustling of the leaves used to be my lullaby
Days so long ago when I was a tot, so high
And now that I have grown
I've found myself alone
Oh how Marinette missed the convenience of her parents rooftop hatch. This window worked, and it thankfully had a fire escape to step out onto, but man, it was a tight squeeze. With a little effort, she heaved herself through the alley-facing window and out into the night. Her next apartment was going to have a nice sized, inconspicuous window for Ladybug to go to work through.
She swung out into Paris, the fall air caressing her face. It was September, and the leaves were just barely starting to turn. School was back in session, and soon, the streets would be emptier. Since it was Paris, it would never be completely empty, but not having to wade through throngs of sweaty tourists would really make life easier. Especially when she was running late to work.
And while it was only September, and that day had seen plenty of people out and about as always, the night had an edge. The shadows seemed darker, the twinkling lights somehow dimmer, and the voices of nighthawks muffled by wind and doors.
These were all thoughts that Ladybug had as she started her patrol. Maybe she should have been thinking about how to tell Chat about what was going on with Adrien.
‘Hey, I have a friend that’s been ghosting me all week, and when I talked to him today, he was really weird. I think he’s hiding something, but I don’t know how to ask. I might have done something to make him mad, but he insists that I did nothing wrong. What should I do?’
Yes, this would work. Vague, and something someone would have written to an advice column.
Cradle me where summer skies can watch me with a million eyes
Oh, sing me to sleep
Lullaby of the leaves
She stopped on the rooftop of Notre Dame. Since the fire, the cathedral had been completely devoid of people at night. There weren't even any candles in the windows.
Just large black holes in the roof, ready to swallow her whole if she got too close.
Chat wasn’t here. For the first time in what felt like forever, he hadn’t beaten her to patrol. He once had told her that patrol was his favorite, as it gave him freedom to get out of the house. So he was always early, normally being out for a while before patrol. So he should be here, somewhere.
“Chat?” She called into the night.
There was no response.
Well, she was early. She’d give him some time, and then call him.
So she waited. Minutes ticked on slowly, like she was moving through water. Unease gnawed at her mind, the silence and his absence so loud it was hard to think.
Chat was larger than life, fun and flirty and everything this night was turning out not to be. Was she that lonely? That desperate for his company?
“Hey Bugaboo, I’m either busy or not transformed. I’ll get back to you when I can!” His voicemail echoed in the night.
“Did you forget we had patrol?” She asked the machine. “I’ll start without you. Just catch up when you can. I want to pick your brain about something, anyways.”
She did a lap, trying not to think about her missing partner, and focusing on the world below her.
The world that seemed empty no matter where she went.
Sure, there were people out and about, but there wasn’t life in them. They might as well be cardboard cutouts dancing in the wind.
Where was Chat Noir?
Cover me with Heaven's blue
And let me dream a dream or two
Oh, sing me to sleep
Lullaby of the leaves
An hour passed before she called him again.
“Hey Bugaboo, I’m either busy or not transformed. I’ll get back to you when I can!”
She didn’t bother leaving a voicemail this time.
What was it with cute blond boys ghosting her all of a sudden?
She finished patrol on her own, seeing nothing of interest. Not even a pickpocket.
Then she passed by the Agreste mansion.
Adrien was usually out when she did her rounds. Sometimes his light was on, sometimes not. But just passing by his room made her feel better, even if he wasn’t there.
He was tonight.
The lights were out, and the only way to see him was some outside illumination from the streetlights.
He was standing in front of those huge windows, just watching the world.
As she passed, she stopped on the edge of the wall, and smiled at him.
He looked right at her, she was certain.
She waved.
He didn’t.
I'm breezing along, along with the breeze
I'm hearing a song, a song through the trees
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
That pine melody caressing the shore
Familiar to me
I've heard it before
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
He held his phone in his hand, and it lit up in that moment, illuminating his face from below.
Adrien was always sweet. Even as he got older, his boyish charm remained. He was hot, he was cute, and maybe even a little sexy.
But in that moment, with the blue light casting harsh shadows on his face, he looked downright scary.
Eyes plunged into darkness, and a mouth set into a thick line.
The screen went dark, and Adrien faded into a silhouette.
Ladybug swallowed, and took up her yo-yo, calling Chat just one last time for the night.
“Hey Bugaboo, I’m either busy or not transformed. I’ll get back to you when I can!”
The beep was so loud. She was aware of the hanging silence, waiting for her to speak, to relay her message.
“Chat, I…I finished my patrol. Everything is good, and fine. I guess. Got weird vibes tonight. So if you could call me, and just let me know you’re okay, I’d appreciate it. I’m not even mad that you missed patrol. You’d have a good reason. Just…get back to me. Okay?”
The whole time she talked, she kept her eyes on Adrien.
He never moved. Not even a shift in his stance, he just stood and watched her.
Like a predator waiting for their prey.
Never did Ladybug fear him. Never any reason too. So why tonight?
That's heaven
Don't I feel it in my soul
And don't I know I've reached my goal
Oh, sing me to sleep
Lullaby of the leaves
“I’m being paranoid.” She said aloud.
And she really hoped that was it.
Sweet Justice (cont.)
1, 2, 3
Chapter 4
Chat Noir almost wanted to groan at his current predicament. Tied up by a rope that the knights had managed to scrounge up somewhere, unable to move and a million thoughts racing through his head.
Ladybug is--was--Marinette.
Marinette is now akumatized.
Chat Noir loves Ladybug.
Adrien loves Marinette.
Adrien didn’t see that Marinette was struggling. He didn’t see that she needed help. He wasn’t there for her as a friend or as a partner. He had failed. She probably got akumatized because she felt she couldn’t trust anyone, even him. Even Chat Noir.
Chat Noir began panicking slightly, feeling overwhelmed by the new information and not sure where to go from here. This would normally be the part where Ladybug would tell him her plan and he would see it through with her. But Ladybug wasn’t here. And she wouldn’t be showing up any time soon. He looked around at his classmates, all turned into knights ready to follow Princess Justice to the ends of the Earth if she asked. He couldn’t even find it in himself to be upset at them, because he could only imagine the guilt they must have felt before succumbing to her powers.
He had to figure out how to escape without hurting any of them. Chat Noir sat quietly, gently chewing on his lip as he racked his brain with ideas. His baton was just out of reach, no one taking it since Princess Justice hadn’t told them to. If he could just stretch his leg out far enough to get his baton back, he’d feel a lot more prepared to make another move. Chat Noir tried to subtly stretch his leg out, scooting forward a little bit in order to get the toe of his boot around the baton. He had almost had it back to him when the classroom door opened.
In walked Ivan and Kim, the two knights who had carried Lila to outside to be publicly humiliated in her stocks. In the back of his mind, Chat Noir was pleased with that knowledge. Behind Ivan and Kim, however, walked a third knight that Chat didn’t recognize. As the knight marched to him, Chat scooted himself backwards as far against the wall as he could, his baton forgotten. Normally, Chat wouldn’t have acted so cowardly in front of a villain.
But these weren’t villains. These were good people protecting someone dear to him. He wasn’t sure how to feel right now.
The knight stopped in front of him, extending a hand out to show that they were holding a letter. Chat looked up at them, and trying to sound as normal as possible, said, “Now I can’t very well take that letter with my arms behind my back, now can I?”
While this was meant to be sarcastic, the knights looked at each other pensively.
“Her Royal Highness told me to deliver this letter to him,” the knight holding the letter said, “and to only let him read it.”
Nino looked at him, glazed over eyes narrowed in contemplation. Alya spoke up, “If Her Royal Highness wants him to read it, then we have no choice but to untie him long enough to let him do so.”
“You’re right,” Nino nodded, before forcing Chat Noir to stand up and beginning to untie him, “No funny business, cat.” Chat tried not to think too hard about how the voice coming out of his best friend was Nino’s voice, but at the same time sounded nothing like him.
“Cat’s honor,” Chat replied smoothly, forcing his usual confident attitude. Once he was untied, he took the letter from the knight and read over the letter as the knights were on guard, expecting him to try and escape.
“Dear Chat Noir,” the letter started, “You have no obligation to trust me, but I have no intention of giving Hawkmoth what he wants. I have a plan, but I need you to help in order for things to go in our favor. I know where his lair is. I was right before to suspect Gabriel Agreste. I know this will be hard on you… given your identity, but I trust that you will help me on my quest to make things right once and for all.” Chat felt tears well up in his eyes, not sure whether to cry over the fact his father was Hawkmoth afterall, or over the fact that Marinette said she trusted him even now. Wiping his tears away before they could even fall, he continued reading, “I need you to remain a prisoner for now, and trust me.” At the bottom of the letter the name Princess Justice was signed in regal, swooping letters, but it was obvious that she wrote this in a hurry.
Chat Noir folded the letter up and stuck it in the pocket of his suit before holding his hands out in surrender. “Alright, you can tie me back up now.”
--------
“It’s odd that Ladybug hasn’t shown up yet,” Princess Justice mused out loud, feigning concern. “Maybe she doesn’t care about her little kitten as much as she previously let on.” She mostly said this out loud for Hawkmoth’s benefit, as she had come to realize that Hawkmoth couldn’t read her thoughts, only hear what she was saying. Even the view he had from her eyes seemed to be limited, as he hadn’t said anything about the note she had written to Chat Noir.
Now all Princess Justice had to do was act busy as she assembled her army. She could feel her ranks growing, a single thought resonating clearly throughout everyone’s minds: to seek justice. To free Paris of the plague it had been cursed with for so long. It was time to set things right.
As she moved through the streets, she had a flock of knights surrounding her at all times. She was more than capable of defending herself, and she was confident no one would try and attack her, but she had to save face before Hawkmoth became too suspicious of her. “Set up a throne for me in the school courtyard. I have a few declarations to make. Our army is just about large enough.”
-------
It didn’t take long for everything to be set up in the gym. A makeshift throne was quickly built by dismantling various furniture around the school. It wasn’t perfect, but Princess Justice found herself fond of it anyways. It was situated on the upper floor of the school overlooking the rest of the courtyard. Princess Justice was already settled into place on her throne, Alya and Nino on either side of her as her most trusted and dearest knights.
Of course, when she had approached the school she had seen Lila in her stocks, no longer screaming but begging desperately to be released. She whined and complained about her wrists being sore, and her back hurting from her awkward standing position. Princess Justice was barely able to contain her laughter, finding humor in the situation. Because for once, Lila was being honest about her ailments. But despite that, she did not stop to give Lila any attention and simply brushed passed her like she wasn’t there.
Now that she was away from Lila, however, she allowed her amused smirk to grace her lips as she looked down at the courtyard. Slowly, the area below was being filled by knights. One by one, or sometimes in small groups, they would march in and automatically fall into formation. They stared ahead at nothing, on standby until their Princess addressed them. Princess Justice turned to Alya, “How did our kitten behave?” she asked, keeping things cryptic enough to where Hawkmoth would not understand what she was actually asking.
“He seemed dejected the entire time, Highness,” Alya responded, “but he did not put up a fight.”
“Excellent,” Princess Justiced said, with a little too much relief in her tone. She coughed quietly and looked to Nino, “Get someone to bring him out here to me. I want him right at my feet.” In a flash, Nino was gone, and a moment later he and Kim were bringing Chat Noir to her. Chat didn’t struggle even the slightest bit, his gaze fixed to the floor as he was forced to sit on the ground right next to her feet.
“Oh kitty,” Princess Justice crooned sweetly, her fingers slightly ruffling his hair, “I know how hard it must be for you, not knowing where your spotted heroine is. You must feel so abandoned and alone.” She knew she would have to play up her role as someone on Hawkmoth’s side, but she prayed her kitten would be able to read between the lines.
“I know my Lady hasn’t abandoned me,” Chat whispered, “She’s never let me down before. I don’t believe she’d start now.”
Princess Justice was touched, but wouldn’t let it show. Taking advantage of Hawkmoth’s limited sight through her eyes, she gently tilted Chat Noir’s face up to look at her and mouthed a ‘thank you’ to him. Chat’s eyes were watery, and he sniffled the tiniest bit, but he still grinned at her. The same grin he always gave Ladybug.
But there was something more to it now. The innocence and trust in his eyes, even behind the mask, reminded Princess Justice so much of Adrien. Chat Noir was so naive in most things, despite his obvious intelligence and competence as a hero. He flirted clumsily, as if he were the protagonist in a cheesy rom-com, but it was obviously genuine. He made poorly timed jokes, like someone who hadn’t been taught to read a room, but he never had ill intentions.
Yes, it was obvious to Princess Justice now, that Adrien and Chat Noir were one and the same, and briefly she wondered why she had never put two and two together before. But she knew the answer. She was afraid of knowing. Afraid that once the secrets were gone she would be forced to open up more of herself to him, something she wasn’t sure she could do. Her fear of showing weakness to one of the most important people in her life, even though he’d never given her reason to fear opening up to him, crippled her to the point where she wasn’t able to see the answer right in front of her.
Literally, he sat right in front of her. And she never noticed.
If Hawkmoth knew that the owner of one of the miraculouses he was so desperately hunting was his son, would he stop? Would he feel guilt or remorse? Princess Justice sincerely doubted it, and the thought made her heart break.
“Ladybug won’t show,” Princess Justice whispered, “Obviously she’s too much of a coward.”
“You and I must be talking about different Ladybugs,” came Chat’s quick response.
Princess Justice wanted to argue, but it would do no good. She had a mission to accomplish. Slipping another note to Chat Noir, detailing her plan to take down Hawkmoth, she stood from her throne and made her way to the railing. Instantly all eyes below were on her, their attention focused entirely on the powerful presence before them.
“My dear knights. Today is a day that will go down in history. Today, you shall protect me on my journey to escort Chat Noir to Hawkmoth personally. Should anyone stand in our way, I trust you will take care of them quickly and with grace. Our aim is not to harm anyone, because violence only breeds more violence,” her voice rang out into the courtyard, her words like a magic spell. Which, technically, was true for the knights. But it was likely that even those untouched by the macarons would have followed her anyways. “There is no time like the present, and since Ladybug is nowhere to be found, we’ll take Chat Noir first and then go bug hunting after!”
The crowd of knights let out a resounding cheer, ready to serve their Princess. She smiled down at the sea of supporters, and felt a sense of relief. Everything was going to be okay. She would be able to pull this off. No one was going to get in the way of her justice.
The only warning signs before the attack was the sound of soft footfall on the school roof behind her. Princess Justice barely had time to process as she ungracefully leapt out of the way. A red flash whirred by her before the shape retreated back towards the roof. She would recognize that sound anywhere.
It was her yoyo.
Someone had donned her old earrings.
“Ladybug?”
Never alone - Chapter Eighteen - Soulmate AU
AO3
Previous - Here - Next
Master List
Marinette was at Kim’s house with her two childhood friends the day after Christmas. They exchanged gifts like they did every year — new headphones for Nino and a sports watch for Kim — and played video games while drinking hot chocolate and eating Mrs. Lê Chien’s famous gingerbread.
She was in the middle of beating Kim at UMSIII when she noticed that Nino seemed down. He wasn’t as happy as usual and was withdrawing from them a little.
She decided to ask him after the game was over.
“You ok there?”
Nino looked up at her and Kim looked at his friend too, frowning at the DJ.
“Yeah, you’ve been acting weird the whole time.”
The bespectacled boy sighed, fidgeting a little.
“I hate that I can’t hide anything from you guys.”
He played with his cap, a nervous tic he had ever since he started wearing caps.
“Something happened. Something huge, and I don’t know what to do.”
Kim and Marinette were silent, waiting for Nino to find the courage to tell them what he needed to.
The fashion designer had an idea about what happened, though.
“I… I met my soulmate,” he said. “You know how my soulbond is that I get things that my soulmate lost? And vice versa? Well, a while back, I lost my favorite cap, and the other day, I saw a girl wearing it.”
She heard Kim silently gasp next to her.
“So I went to her and asked how she got it and she told me that her soulmate lost it. When I told her it was mine, she was a bit skeptical, so I told her about things I got from her and… Yeah. She’s my soulmate. Her name is Léa.”
They were silent after that, not knowing if they should congratulate him or not. They knew that Nino loved Alya, but a soulmate changed everything.
“Is it romantic or platonic?”
Their friend looked at them, his eyes so sad it broke Marinette’s heart.
“Romantic,” he answered.
The fashion designer hugged him close to her.
“Have you told Alya yet?”
She felt him shake his head no. Releasing him, he said:
“I thought that I would wait until we got back to school to tell her. I… I have a lot to think of, and I love Alya with all my heart, so I don’t want to end things on a bad note. So yeah, I need to think very carefully about the way I’ll tell her.”
Nino looked at her then, almost pleading.
“Can you not tell her, please?”
The Eurasian girl smiled sadly at him.
“You know I won’t. It’s not my business to tell.”
She took his hand, squeezing it a little.
“I know you’ll do your best to not hurt her too much. And, you know, I think Alya saw it coming. She’s been having a bad feeling for a while now.”
“Yeah, I know, she told me.”
Kim patted his back.
“I’m sure the two of you will still be friends after that.”
Nino let out a strangled laugh, tears coming out of his eyes.
“I hope so.”
Tumblr media
Marinette didn’t realize that she has missed Gotham until the plane landed. While Paris was a beautiful city full of art and history, she was born there and has seen everything.
Gotham was different. There was so much she hadn’t seen there, so much she had yet to learn about this city.
Unfortunately, she wouldn’t be there long enough to visit much, but there would always be next time!
It took a long time to find her suitcase and people around her were eager to get out of the airport and were pushing her out of the way, so she decided to let them get their luggage first so she wouldn’t have to deal with them.
Rude, really, but she could understand how they wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.
Suitcase retrieved, Marinette looked for Damian, as he promised that he would pick her up. She smiled as she saw him, a sign with her name on it. He was next to a man in his sixties-seventies and recognized him instantly even if she’s never met him. It was Alfred Pennyworth, the man that was a grandfather for the Wayne boys in everything but blood.
She hugged Damian, kissing his cheek in greetings, and turned to Alfred.
“Hello, mister. I’m Marinette Dupain-Cheng. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.”
She extended her hand and he took it, shaking it.
“It’s nice to meet you too, Miss Dupain-Cheng. I’m Alfred Pennyworth. You may call me by my name.”
“Alright, please, call me Marinette too!” She smiled at him.
She felt Damian take her suitcase from her.
“Is it all you have?” He asked.
“Yeah, I packed lightly,” she said.
He took her hand, leading her to the exit.
“Come on, Jason has been exciting to finally meet you. He wouldn’t shut up about it.”
Tumblr media
“You’re shorter than I think you would be.”
Jason — or Red Hood, as she had known him under his alias until now — has always been teasing her during her video calls with Robin, and she always gave back as much as she got, but she wasn’t expecting him to tease her about her height.
She knew she was short, alright? She wasn’t the shortest, but she wasn’t tall either, and, yeah, standing next to Jason, she felt ridiculous.
No, really, anyone would laugh at them if they saw them standing next to each other. She could only imagine Alix standing next to Jason, it would be even more ridiculous.
“Excuse me? I can’t hear you from all the way down there.”
She heard Tim laugh somewhere behind Jason, but she couldn’t see him. Really, the second son of the Wayne family was huge.
Jason laughed at her, ruffling her hair.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, munchkin.”
“Ha. Ha. Nicknames about my size, don’t you have anything original?”
She smiled, though, not offended at all. She always got those kinds of nicknames from Kim, anyway. The guy was way too tall for his own good too.
Speaking of tall people — or tall and huge things in general — the dog that was running toward her was huge too. And it wasn’t stopping.
Before she could understand was happening, she was on her butt on the floor, a huge Great Dane licking her face.
“Titus!”
The designer laughed.
“Now, I like this kind of welcome.”
She petted the dog for a bit before getting up with Jason’s help. She greeted Dick with a smile and started a conversation with Tim, happy to see him after almost two years.
They spent the whole afternoon talking, and she did her best to fight the sleep, being jet-lagged. She wanted to wait until after dinner to sleep though, she was having such a good time with Damian and his brothers.
She met Bruce at said dinner since he had an emergency at Wayne Enterprises.
“It’s good to properly meet you, Marinette.”
“It’s nice to meet you too, Mister Wayne. Thank you for sending help in Paris.”
“Of course, we couldn’t just let it happen.”
Dinner was pleasant, and she learned more about Damian while observing his family. Dick was obviously the more outgoing among them, and seeing as Bruce didn’t express himself much, she could see how Damian struggled with his emotions.
The food was delicious, Alfred was a great cook and Marinette couldn’t remember eating a better meal in her life.
She would never tell that to her parents, though. But they were still the best when it came to dessert and baked goods.
Tumblr media
It was the next day, lying in bed next to Damian trying to sleep that she decided to confront him.
Just like Nino a few days ago, Damian was acting weird and anxious, to the point that she could feel it from him, making her unable to fall asleep.
“What’s wrong?”
He looked at her then, and she could guess the frown on his face. Whatever it was that he was thinking about, it was not good.
“I have something to tell you.”
She moved, choosing to sit so she could face him instead of lying down.
“Okay. Should I be worried?”
“It’s not about us, per se, it’s about me. About things that I haven’t tell you yet.”
She relaxed a little, relieved that it wasn’t about their relationship.
“Okay,” she breathed. “I’m listening. Take your time.”
She heard him move and suddenly, there was light coming from the lamp on his bedside table. Good, it was less awkward now that she could properly see him.
“It’s about my past. I never told you about my mother, right?”
She shook her head no.
“I’ve been living with her until I was ten. Then I was living with my father and I’ve only seen her once since moving in with my father.”
He paused, looking for the right words.
“My mother is not a good person. Neither was my grandfather or anyone I knew back then. I wasn’t a good person either. Can’t say I’m a good person now, though.”
She opened her mouth to protest but he stopped her.
“Don’t  misunderstand. I’m a much better person than I was back then, but I’m not quite there yet. But I will be.”
She thought that he was already there but didn’t see it yet. She hoped he would see it soon.
“My mother and grandfather raised me… trained me to do things… bad things. Really bad things. And I never thought twice about it. I did everything they asked of me, and I didn’t see anything wrong with it. It was normal for me.”
Damian didn’t say the words, but she had a good idea of what the bad things were. She felt cold suddenly and had to take a deep breath.
“The things I did…”
“Ssssh.” She interrupted him. “I know. I don’t want to hear it.”
He looked hurt at her words and she cursed herself. She took his hand, squeezing it.
“Hey, hey. That’s not what I meant. It’s just, sometimes, you don’t need to hear some things. I think I know what you’ve done, and I don’t need to hear more. I just need to know one thing, though.”
He nodded, the hurt was gone now, and she knew that he understood what she meant.
“Those bad things… Do you still do them now?”
“No, my father made sure I wouldn’t anymore.”
“Okay,” she breathed. “You don’t do it anymore. But do you want to?”
“No!” He exclaimed. “No, I don’t want anymore.”
“That’s all I needed to know.”
She kissed him, then, so he could understand that she didn’t think of him any differently.
“Are you feeling better now that it’s off your chest,” she asked.
“Yeah, I do.”
He kissed her, softly, and gave her face and neck a lot of kisses.
“I…” he took a deep breath then, as if what he was about to say caused him physical pain. “I love you.”
Marinette swore that she felt her heart stop at those words. Those three words she’s been dreaming of hearing for months now. She was so happy she could cry.
Damian’s face fell, and she realized that she was taking too long to answer. She gave him the brightest smile that she could and stroke his cheek lovingly.
“I love you so much,” she whispered.
She didn’t know who leaned in first, but their lips met in a passionate kiss. He pulled her closer to him, their chest touching, and his hand took untied her hair from the ponytail they were in.
Her hands were moving up and down his torso, and soon, his shirt was on the floor instead of his person. Her shirt soon followed and when Damian pulled away, she almost whimpered.
“Wait, wait, wait,” he panted. “Are you sure you want to go there?”
She pulled him to her, kissing him once more but he broke the kiss once again.
“No, I’ll need your verbal consent, here.”
She smiled, appreciating his concern.
“Yes, I’m sure.”
And this time, when she pulled him to her, he didn’t resist.
Black Cats are Some Kind of Luck
Oh god this might just be a little bit of a crack fic but I had way too much fun writing this.
Rated M, probably? Iunno. LukaNoire!
In most of the mornings Luka had in his life after toddlerhood he woke up alone in his bed. When Juleka was younger, maybe a toddler herself, she had dragged him out of his bed to hide under a blanket on the floor when she had nightmares. Anarka would find her babies in a tangled nest, since sleeping on the floor meant finding no monsters under the bed to very young imaginative minds.
This morning he woke up with… someone else snuggled next to him. Someone who looked a lot like Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
He hadn't gone to sleep that way. Pretty sure of that. He was and had been sober.
He had no idea what happened.
Gently he pried himself away from her, extricating himself carefully from her grasp. He took a quick look around his room and yep, this was his room in his flat that he shared with his best friend. His guitars were hung up against the walls, his music sheet paper was on his desk in random piles, his hoodie was thrown over his desk covering his laptop.
But it was Marinette. In his bed. Oh god, he thought, HOW was she here? Somewhere deep down inside of him he didn't find the idea of him waking up next to her unwelcome but… there was a natural progression to things. Sure, he'd been in love with her for years but she was Marinette Dupain-Cheng the up-and-coming fashion star and personal designer for Jagged Stone. He was just Luka. He hadn't ever given himself even the slimmest of chances when she was Marinette and she had her eyes on Adrien Agreste, the supermodel and son of Gabriel, who ran the most prominent design house in France. She was probably 2 standard deviations out of his league.
"Shit," he whispered to no one in particular. He checked himself over and double checked that he was sober and dressed (oh god we didn't… did we?). She was wearing her pajamas and it didn't look like they did anything so that wasn't going to cause an immediate meltdown. He should probably wake her up and… figure out what happened. He knelt by the edge of the bed and gently shook her by the shoulder. "Hey. Marinette?"
"Mnnng," she groaned, eyebrows furrowing as she frowned. She grabbed at his blankets and pulled them in toward her, then started opening her eyes. "Hi," she said, lazily smiling up at him. She must still have been waking up, but if she smiled like that to whoever she woke up next to he'd happily have them both go back to sleep just so they'd wake up together again.
"Do you know where you are?" He asked. Maybe there'd been an akuma attack and she got teleported here? He wasn't sure. "You're in my room. Do you remember how you got here?"
"Yeah," she yawned. "I cam--" Her eyes shot wide open mid-word and she slapped her hands over her mouth. "Th-there was an akuma!"
Oh god, she almost said she came here on purpose, and not because she'd been high as a kite on whatever kitty hormones had coursed through her veins while she was Lady Noire.
Well, she couldn't blame it just on the kitty hormones. Regular hormones were bad enough. And if she was even more honest with herself she had wanted to wake up next to Luka Couffaine, the gentleman rocker, ever since she found herself thinking about blues more than greens, distressed more than clean and crisp, shy but warm laughter more than confused smiles.
So basically for a couple of years now.
She should have seen it coming. When she and Mister Bug decided to swap permanently she'd been informed by Plagg that should she choose it, she'd be able to tap into some latent powers with the side effect of being more like the animal the Miraculous represented. She didn't think it'd be a problem so she chose it. Cats just slept all the time. If she didn't have to worry about being Ladybug anymore she could afford more sleep, right?
What she didn't really account for (and she should have after a facepalm worthy moment where she realized Plagg had been teasing it all along) was the heat. Or whatever it was that made her way more… touch-oriented, and way less inhibited than usual.
She'd been alright with napping more often. She'd been alright about unconsciously licking her hands clean. It was convenient that she was the daughter of bakers and helped out making pastries. She was practically covered in flour and sugar all the time anyway (regardless, she always washed her hands after). She didn't have a tail to swish around whenever she was annoyed so nothing about her was more cat-like than usual. Though she was annoyed more often now that she thought about it.
The cat-ness also severely affected her sense of smell.
She wasn't alright with how good some people smelled, especially near her period. When she and Kagami were having a juice date Marinette legitimately drooled at how vibrantly citrusy the fencer was. Alya, Nino, and most of Kitty Section smelled pleasant. Her parents smelled… well, familiar, which was to be expected. Adrien also smelled familiar, which was unexpected.
Luka was the worst. She couldn't place the scent but she kept thinking of blueberries, sea salt, chocolate, ocean waves lapping at her feet, the warmth of a crackling bonfire with the cooling sea breeze, and how badly she wanted to curl herself around him and take in his everything. It wasn't just near her period. It was all the time.
It seemed like after the late-night/early-morning akuma attack she had nearly gone ahead and wrapped herself around him in her kitty hormone addled brain. God, he had smelled so good and her brain had still been fuzzy at the edges when he woke her up, but she had quickly gotten to her senses after he had looked a little panicked and she had noticed that she was detransformed.
She couldn't blame him for being panicked. If the situation was reversed she might have screamed and tossed him across the Seine.
"I'm… I'm so sorry, Luka," she said in her own panic. She looked off to the side and nervously played with the rose-gold ring on her right hand, wondering where Plagg had gone. She looked back at Luka when he blew out a relieved sigh.
"Hey, it was the akuma," he laughed. "You alright? Not hurt anywhere?"
"I'm alright, yeah," she answered, then suddenly frowned. Plagg, that little shit, what the hell was he doing? She found him laying on top of Luka's head, smiling a wide Cheshire cat smile.
"I don't know why the miraculous ladybugs didn't drop you off back home," Luka said, sounding like he was talking more to himself than to her. "Maybe it works differently for Mister Bug?"
Marinette could definitely fudge it and say that the Miraculous Ladybugs kinda… skipped her. "Haha, maybe I was too far from them?" Marinette forced a laugh.
Luka shrugged. "Still, I'm guessing you'd wanna go back home, right?"
Hmm, not really. And well, her ride back home was currently lounging in Luka's hair. She reached out a hand to try to catch Plagg but the kwami slipped out of her grasp. She ended up just… petting Luka. "Oh! S-sorry you had something in your hair," she said quickly, trying to cover up her embarrassment.
"Thanks?" He said, a deep blush rising up to his cheeks. He swept his hair back after Marinette reluctantly drew back her hand and for a long moment Marinette just stared. The younger Couffaines had a mild tendency to hide behind brightly colored bangs when they were feeling shy, but Luka had as much unconventional beauty packed in his features as Juleka did.
And Juleka could very well be a supermodel if she wanted.
"I'll give you a ride back on my bike. Is that alright?" He asked as his blush faded. He still looked a little nervous with his hand on the back of his neck.
"I'd love a ride," she said absently, another yawn overtaking her. Ugh, his bed was so warm and smelled so nice and she would most definitely like to ride him--ride with him, WITH him, WITH him. Yeah, she should go home now before she ruined everything.
At least, that had been the plan. They had gone down to the garage and chatted lightly after getting geared up one after the other, both more than thankful that Luka's roommate was dead asleep in the other room. The ride was smooth and relatively short so she hadn't been thinking about how she wanted to feel him under her the whole time, no, not at all. He parked nearby as her housing complex had like, no available spaces, and walked the block and a half to her apartment with her so she could get out of the borrowed gear without going barefoot in her pajamas.
As he was heading out with the spare gear over his arms, she stopped him. "Thanks for getting me home and… for everything. I'm… I'm glad I didn't end up anywhere else," Marinette said with a shy smile. She got up on her toes and kissed him on the cheek.
"No problem," he said slowly, mostly surprised with a blush creeping over his face. "See you later?"
She had a giant yawn escape her after she closed the door and started walking back to her bedroom. Plagg zipped out of her pajama pants pocket to float in front of her. "Yanno you kissed him on the mouth, right?" he snickered.
Luka slowly leaned forward and rested his head against her door. Had she just kissed him? Had she just kissed him and he said "see you later" like a dumbass? He tried to stifle a groan and pressed his head harder into the door when the door swung open away from him with surprising speed. Three things worked against him as he tried to recover from stumbling forward: being caught off guard, his arms already carrying stuff that made him unbalanced, and gravity.
Good thing Marinette was there to break his fall. The bad thing was Marinette had some really amazing reflexes and honed self-defense skills because she guided his momentum into throwing him onto the floor, landing him on his back. She gasped, covering her mouth with her hands after realizing what she had done. "Oh my god! Luka are you okay?!"
"Don't know," he said, blinking up at the ceiling. He'd been dressed for the slide but definitely felt hit by a truck after she'd kissed him. "Probably," he said after a beat. "Was that an accident?"
"… Yeah, I don't usually throw you to the ground?" Marinette replied, confused.
"No, you kissed me."
She made a couple of noises that sounded like abortive starts at sentences. "I… guess I don't usually do that either," she ultimately sighed, pressing one delicate hand to her very red cheeks. She knelt down next to him and brushed his hair away from his eyes. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"I'll be okay if you kiss me again," he said, thinking he'd be able to get away with ha, just kidding if she wasn't into it but desperately hoping she would be. Something in her expression shifted and he almost felt his soul leave his body. He started propping himself up by his hands looking for the gear that got flung aside when he was pulled up the rest of the way to sitting by his jacket collar.
He got hit by another metaphorical truck. She pressed her lips to his, which was pretty great by itself but then it got more and intense and open and she unbuttoned his collar and zipped down his jacket. The temperature of the room instantly got stifling and he was sure part of his brain melted.
She pulled back a bit and they got a few breaths of air. He should have used that time to ask Can this be an every day thing but then she licked her lips and all coherent thoughts evaporated. He didn't notice that she successfully tugged his jacket off. Didn't feel it when he got pushed back down. Did notice when she sat on his lap and leaned forward to kiss him hard over and over again. He only heard the faintest buzz of his phone that had almost been drowned out by her tiny, breathy moans, and that had only sunk in and registered after she sat back up and growled at it.
She picked it up and nearly threw it against her couch except she caught a glimpse of something and said "Goddamn it."
It wasn't his finest moment. "Huh?"
"Akuma. Sorry, Luka!" She took his hands off of her ass and jumped up. Somehow she hauled him up to his feet and pushed him out the still opened door, pressing his jacket and phone into his hands. "I'll get the rest of the stuff to you later okay? I'm so sorry!"
"Wait. Hold on, what--" She cut him off by kissing him again, which was a surprisingly effective tactic.
"I'll meet you for lunch, but for now I gotta g--hide! Be safe! Sorry!" Then the door slammed shut.
The phone buzzed in his hand and he took a look at the notifications. They were all from his roommate, the bastard.
Just now Di © K: Hope ur ok where ever the fuck u r
One minute ago Di © K: Shit akuma
Two minutes ago Di © K: Oi whered u go
Three minutes ago Di © K: ? Di © K: Lulu Di © K: Heeeeey Di © K: Hey
… Didn't the whole thing with akumas mean he should have stayed indoors? With her?
He wasn't sure he could sit on his bike comfortably for the next little while anyway.
Mister Bug swore almost every other akuma was some damned mind-control wizard. Of course it had to be one of those today, and of course today Lady Noire was especially pissed off so she was slightly more reckless than usual. Which was saying something, as Mister Bug had seen her go on a rampage not 8 hours ago and that had been one of the quickest akuma fights he'd ever seen. Seen and not participated in, as he'd been left nothing but cleanup.
Heatstroke or whatever had literally thrown the akumatized object at Lady Noire's feet after she had beaten and clawed the shit out of him. He was cowering in the relative security of a dumpster bin when Mister Bug found him.
She must have really loved her sleep. It'd been maybe 2am?
This latest akuma called herself the Directator. She'd been managing a movie set and of course something had gone wrong early in the day. So Hawky gave her the power to truly direct everything to her heart's desire or similar bullshit like that. Mister Bug and Lady Noire took maybe a few minutes to try to figure things out when Lady Noire skipped straight to the attack phase, beating Directator with the director's chair.
He should have noticed that she was ready to pounce when Lady Noire's ears were angled back and her electric green tail was whipping back and forth in a threatening fashion. She'd been way more actual-cat-like than he ever was as Chat Noir.
Directator panicked and commanded Lady Noire to 1) stop attacking her, 2) put the director's chair down gently, 3) be a nice kitty, 4) take off and go.
Mister Bug spent the next few minutes chasing after Lady Noire. When he finally caught up with her and stopped her, she put up her hands. He sighed with relief that she still wanted to work with him. He'd been relieved all up until she started slapping him with those hands and he fell back in surprise. She took off again.
It looked like she was heading in a particular direction so, after deciding to stay back a bit, Mister Bug trailed after her to see where she ended up. He didn't have to wait too long until she stopped running across the rooftops and dropped down to street level, where she seemed to chat up a dude in full riding gear next to a motorcycle. The next thing he saw was Lady Noire taking motorcycle guy by the waist and using her baton to propel them both to the roof of the tallest nearby building.
Maybe he should… do something about that? Especially since it seemed like Motorcycle Guy was screaming out a "what the fuuuuck".
Mister Bug went after them and found Motorcycle Guy sitting against the raised ledge of the building with Lady Noire curled up against him, sitting on his lap. Adrien coughed to hide and try to suppress his laughter. Motorcycle Guy raised his visor (oh hey, it was Luka) and asked "What's going on?"
Before Mister Bug could answer Lady Noire leapt up and stamped her foot in front of Adrien. "No! He's mine! Leave us alone!!" she hissed.
"I'm what?" Luka said incredulously.
Mister Bug backed up a few steps to placate her. "Yeah, okay," he chuckled. "You're being a nice kitty, right?"
She huffed and crossed her arms. "I'm always nice."
"You're right. So the nice kitty will let me talk to her friend for a minute, right? 'Cause you're such a nice Lady Noire?"
"Only a minute," she said unhappily. She was pouting.
"Great!" Mister Bug said cheerfully. He walked over to Luka and contemplated what to do on the way.
(Just a bit earlier)
Where had Marinette disappeared to? Luka had knocked several times after she shut him out but she didn't answer. He pressed his ear against the door to see if he could hear anything but it was dead silent on the other side. She wouldn't have made out with him and thrown him out like this and ghosted him… would she? It didn't seem like a Marinette thing. Not that he was an expert in all things Marinette… one day he'd like to see if she'd let him become one though.
He had loitered around her place for probably 20 minutes trying to convince himself to not break in and find out what happened. He'd have to respect her privacy and he did, really, but the last akuma attack magically teleported her to his someone else's bed and his thoughts were slowly spiraling into dangerous territory, where he imagined her ending up in Adrien's bed and her realizing she had better people than Luka to roll around under the bedcovers with.
Be cool, man, he thought at himself. Not going to help anyone if he suffered a mental breakdown. There might be a non-zero chance that she ended up back at his place? Okay that seemed too optimistic but… he should probably let his flatmate know he was fine and that he was heading back anyway.
He walked out to his bike after putting his jacket back on and unlocked the rear seat off to get to his helmet. He'd been ready to get back on the bike and ride off when he heard more than saw someone plunk down next to him. He turned and Lady Noire was looking directly at him. "Hi Luka," she said. "I need you."
"For the akuma?" He asked. Maybe he needed to be Viperion again? "Okay?" She rushed in and threw him over her shoulder, then they were a hundred meters in the air. "What the fuck?!"
He got plopped down against the ledge of the building and then she sat curled up on him. It might have been his imagination but… she was purring? This was… not making any sense at all. Luka saw Mister Bug land on the roof and the spotted hero managed to get Lady Noire off of him for a minute.
Mister Bug walked over and sighed before talking with Luka. That was a bad sign. "I'm sorry to have to ask this, but could you… stay with her until I can deal with this akuma? I just needed to know she's safe and in one place."
"… What?"
"Mind control akuma. Lady Noire's been hit with some weird commands." Mister Bug paused and looked thoughtful. "Hmm, I don't know, actually. Seems like she's just doing whatever she wants to outside of being ordered to leave the scene."
"Can't you fix that? Or… maybe get me out of here?"
"It'll be fixed after I deal with the akuma. I don't know if you noticed but Kitty here has been pretty extreme recently. Might be safer for everyone, including both me and you, if she's here and not ordered to Cataclysm anyone or anything." Mister Bug dropped his voice to a whisper. "Never thought she'd be a loose cannon. She might just attack me again so I'm not going to tempt fate if she just wants to hang out with you." Mister Bug shrugged at Luka. "Hey, greater good and all that. I promise I'll fix this as soon as I can. Take care of her, alright?"
"Hey wait--" "Bug out!"
Mister Bug up and left them. Shit. Lady Noire came walking back and looked over the edge of the building to make sure Mister Bug was gone. She sat back down next to Luka. "Okay, good, it's just us!" she beamed, hugging him.
"Uh," Luka started uncomfortably. "Not… to try to make things any weirder, but… could you get off of me?"
She pulled back, looking hurt. "You don't like me?"
"I… don't know who you are. I mean as a person, not a superhero." Luka tried to say that gently enough to not set her off. "I might like you if I got to know you?" He backtracked, feeling unsure. "But I mean, I'm just not great with the touching. I'm… into someone and it feels wrong to have someone else be this close."
Her ears flattened out to the side. "Who's that?" she asked, half sad and half… bitter? He felt like he just waded into turbulent waters. He didn't want to throw anyone under the Lady Noire murder bus, least of all Marinette.
"I'll tell you if you stay here," he compromised, hoping that he didn't just sign any death warrants. "Besides, you know her already. She usually chases after you."
"Alya?!" Lady Noire was shocked.
"No, Marinette? She always runs out to--"
"But I'm Marinette."
"… You. You're Marinette? Marinette Du--"
"Dupain-Cheng, yeah. That's me."
Oh. "… I thought you weren't supposed to tell anyone who you were?"
She snorted. "I can do whatever I want!" She leaned in closer. "So does this mean I can touch you again?"
It was just a few moments shy of Mister Bug letting the ladybugs set everything back to normal, so he ignored the notification on his yo-yo from Lady Noire. He checked it after and saw one line: "Taking Luka home now! ;)" Oh boy. Well, she should be relatively okay now. Luka would be fine.
Hopefully…
Lady Noire started whining and that whine turned into a full blown scream in the middle of dropping from the roof, just as the Miraculous Cure worked its magic over her. Luckily she still landed softly enough while she held onto Luka, so it wasn't that she had lost control or anything. She immediately jumped away from him after setting him on his feet.
"Oh my god I am so, so, so, so sorry Luka," she cried, covering her entirely red face with her hands.
"Thank god you're back to normal," Luka sighed, leaning back against the building.
"Any chance you could forget all that?" Lady Noire asked nervously, dropping her hands back to fiddle with her baton. She looked like she wanted to leave Earth as soon as she possibly could.
All that included him taking his helmet off, her crawling back into his lap and grinding herself against him, her ripping apart his jacket and shirt (they were fixed now), peppering him with kisses and tiny bites everywhere, and doing all of this while she was Marinette Dupain-Cheng underneath it all. He did his best to keep up and reciprocate but she was superpowered. She barely let him breathe but he survived. And he'd enjoyed it. He had enjoyed the hell out of it. But at the same time he had gotten thoroughly overwhelmed.
He didn't want to forget all that, but… "I can if you want me to," he sighed. She'd been mind-controlled, after all. "It was all the akuma, right?" Too bad. "What… about earlier?"
She opened her mouth to reply but inhaled too quickly and started coughing. "Um, I…" She coughed again. "Er. Um…" She bit her lip and looked down, muttering something to herself.
Goddamn it, Plagg. Plagg had mentally kicked her and the voice in her head said "Cat's already outta the bag, toots, you've been wanting to mount that guy for-e-ver. Don't you dare take it back." It startled her enough to cause her to choke on air.
"Um, I… Er. Um…" She kicked at the ground. She wanted this. She wanted this. No mind-influencing akuma had told her to kiss him, that had been completely her. "No, don't… don't forget anything. I wanted all that," she sighed. "It was all me."
He raised his helmet visor to get a better look at her. "Are you sure?"
She nodded and looked back up at him. "I'm sure. I… kinda want to continue, too?"
It sounded like he choked. "I… wouldn't mind that."
She glanced back at her apartment a few blocks away. "See you in a few?"
(Some time later)
Luka hadn't completely gotten used to waking up with someone else in bed. He wasn't sure if he ever would, since every time he woke up next to Marinette it'd been nothing short of amazing and he'd felt like he was dreaming but no, she was actually there.
Occasionally he'd have to deal with waking up in the middle of the night because she'd leave for patrol, or had come back from it to snuggle back into his arms. It wasn't really a problem because they were together in the morning.
He didn't really miss waking up alone.
From Me to We
----------------------------------------------------------------
The lights flickered in time with a tired sigh, throwing darkness over pages that had already left Nino feeling increasingly frustrated. What was it about old timey books that made them so… so obtuse!
Had it's previous owners meant to mock him? If so then he guessed they ought to congratulate themselves. Never before had anything left him feeling so completely and utterly defeated.
With that thought and a heavy groan, Nino let the tome hit the cushion beside him.
“Waaaaayzz,” he whined, earning a dry look from the kwami. “How the sweet heck am I meant to read this crap? No offence. I know this is, like, your idea of fun and all, buuuut…”
“None taken,” Wayzz replied, drifting down to sit upon his holder’s shoulder. “I understand that it is a rather…” he paused, seemingly taking a moment to choose his next words carefully. “...dull and dense text. But you were chosen to inherit this role, and with it comes certain responsibilities. Such as-”
“Readin’ old books drier than the Sahara Desert?” Nino scoffed, leaning back into the worn comfort of his couch.
“At least you’re allowed to read them!”
Ah, he was wondering when she was going to join the conversation.
Across the room from him, grumbling to herself from her squeaky desk chair, sat Alya. Her legs were crossed and her form hunched, a sure sign that she wasn't quite over being scolded by the tiny god of protection earlier this evening.
“Aww, come on, babe.” Nino attempted to assure her. “I promise, you're not missin’ out on anything exciting here!”
Well, not anything that he himself would find exciting. To be perfectly honest, he wasn't sure why he'd had the title of guardian thrust upon him. Hero stuff wasn't really something he was passionate about. It was just something he did outta a sense of duty.
Alya though? Now SHE was someone who woulda been squealing at the opportunity. She dug this kinda shit.
Thick, boring books full of lore and secrets that had to be decoded and unravelled?
The responsibility of deciding who was worthy of the same power they wielded, and who could never be allowed even near a miraculous?
The weight that such a position held, and the changes it would bring with it?
That was right up her alley!
It was the ultimate hero's life, all stress and life altering decisions and sooo much information that it made his brain wanna shrivel up and roll right outta his head. This was her dream, not his.
Yet here they sat, neither of them pleased with the cards they'd been dealt.
Man, was life ever a bitch.
“.... Okay, so maybe it'd be exciting to you,” Nino conceded as his girlfriend threw him an irritated glare, one that only softened as she took note of how exhausted he seemed.
Alya pulled herself away from her desk, crossing the room in a few quick steps before she dropped herself next to her beloved with a graceless thump.
“I know you're not trying to make me feel like shit, boo,” she assured him, although with how he slouched into her side Alya was getting the feeling that, perhaps, he felt he had failed in that. “It's just…”
A strong arm wrapped itself around Nino’s shoulder, and with one smooth motion he was pulled into the warmth of Alya’s embrace. It was a comfort, a silent reassurance that no ill feelings were shared between them. That even if the situation was less than ideal, they refused to let it sour their bond.
“Sucks major ass?”
“Couldn't have said it better myself, Neens~”
Alya felt the beginnings of a smile tugging at her lips, one that was awfully contagious as she caught sight of the same beauty blossoming upon her boyfriend's gorgeous face.
“You know I'd give ya the damn title if I could, right?” Nino said with a slight shrug. “I wasn't really gunning for something like this. Or even remotely wanting it.”
“Maybe that's why the old fart gave it to ya,” Trixx chimed in, his sudden presence making the couple jolt comically. Alya threw a pointed look at her kwami, one that went entirely ignored by the mini master of mischief.
“Just saying! I mean, isn't that what boring old humans do? Give power to those that don't want it?”
“As much as I disagree with his choice of words and blatant disrespect for my former master,” Wayzz retorted with an air of annoyance. “Trixx does have a fair point. I do believe that Mas- that Fu’s choice, or at least part of it, was based on a lack of desire. One that does not desire power is far less likely to abuse it.”
Wayzz’s own lack of tactfulness earned him a nasty look, from both his chosen and his fiery partner. Unlike Trixx though, he at least had the decency to appear guilty, knowing that he lacked a certain level of social savvy. The fox instead had whizzed off to find a new place to nap. How typical of him.
“I did not mean anything offensive by it,” the kwami quickly added. “I do not believe that Miss Alya would ever abuse such power! You have proven to be a hero of great honour and responsibility, and I would never wish to besmirch your name with such dirty implications…”
“I'd hope not, little dude,” Nino said firmly, the sternness in his gaze starting to melt as Alya relaxed beside him, along with her grip that held his lanky frame. “I love ya, but Als is my frickin’ Queen. I ain't about to let anyone talk smack about her, not even you.”
“I would never. In fact, if it would assure your fears, I will let it be known that Miss Alya was Fu’s second pick.”
A beat of silence passed, broken only by the slight cry of shock that fell from Alya's slackened jaw.
“You… You can't be serious! Was I- I could of- What?!”
“Oh, but I am. You possess a brilliant mind, and a passion for knowledge and the history of us kwamis that is both pure and unrivalled by anyone alive today. To be completely honest, the perfect guardian lies somewhere between you both. It made the decision terribly hard…”
As he trailed off the silence returned. Unlike last time though, it stretched out, filling several long lasting minutes.
Nino felt Alya’s cheek come to rest upon his head, and even from where he rested, his face pressed into the crook of her neck, he could hear her heart race. Was it excitement, the idea that she was thought of so highly by someone she deeply respected? He hoped so. She deserved at least that.
No, she deserved so much more.
“You right there, Als?” Nino whispered against her skin, laying a gentle kiss to her thrumming pulse. To his delight he felt her shiver beneath his lips, egging him on to smother her in a flurry of feather light affections.
“I will be once you stop being such a damn lovable DORK,” Alya shot back, her cheeks ablaze. It wasn't often that Nino managed to catch her off guard as such, not that she was complaining of course. She loved him dearly, with his sweet tenderness and near endless patience for her more… wild ways.
But right now was meant to be serious talk time!
“Well excuuuuuse me, Princess!”
Oh, how her eyes rolled.
“Anyway, back to the topic at hand. You know, the one where I was ALMOST THE GUARDIAN? I seriously can't believe that I was this close to being allowed to read the same book that you wanna throw in a fire!” Up went her hands, and with them Wayzz, who hopped out of the way of any further hand shenanigans and took refuge on the arm of their couch.
“Like, come on universe! I'm sorry that we can't just fuse or mind meld or be co-guardians or something equally as ridiculous!”
“Man, that last one woulda been hella sweet. Could you imagine? This shit would be so much easier if we could tackle it together. That damn book would be halfway understood by the end of the year if you were actually allowed to read it!”
Together they sighed, almost dreamily, as though the idea was but a wish, one fit only for fairytales. Or perhaps a low budget rom com, like the ones they enjoyed playfully mocking every Friday evening. Ah, for their lives to be so stupidly simple.
“Don't even say it, babe. Don't give me dreams that can't be fulfil-”
“Co… Guardians?” Wayzz interjected, drawing their gazes to his suddenly pondering form. “I hadn't thought of that option. Neither of us had. It certainly isn't traditional, but Ma- but Fu has never been one to follow tradition. Does that truly matter now in the scheme of things?”
His tiny brow creased in deep thought, so much so that they feared he may give himself a headache. Then, without warning, the kwami was zipping across the room, coming to rest upon the coffee table where Nino’s phone lay.
“What are yo-”
“I am contacting Fu. This new guardianship is only days old, you see. We should still be able to make amendments. With this new idea presented I believe we may be able to reach a more agreeable situation for all.”
“You… You mean…”
“Yes, Miss Alya. Now please, a moment of silence.”
The couple shared a look of bewilderment, one that swiftly morphed into giddy delight as the meaning of Wayzz's words and the hushed conversation he was having, started to settle in.
“You don't think…?” She started.
“Heck yeah I think!”
“I wasn't even being- well okay, I HAD thought of it before, but I didn't seriously think that it could happen! But now it’s- Neens, I might-!”
Excited giggles burst forth between them, both barely able to contain the jittering joy that flourished between them. What once had seemed like a sore point now pulsed with a new life, promising a future that held them together closer than ever before.
Strange, how quickly one’s night could turn from a grouchy sort of sour to a sweet, bubbly delight.
Together they tittered, their conversation an excited mess of hardly hushed whispers and tightly gripped hands. The energy was punctured by a familiar, yet sharp throat clearing, which snapped their attention back to the awaiting kwami.
“Although our conversation was brief, and we will meet at a later date to discuss the details, we are both in agreement. A Co-Guardianship is something we are willing to trial. If you will both agree to this arrangement, that is.”
Wayzz watched with a delighted chuckle, already braced for the squeals and hollering of joy that were soon to follow. Ah, to be young and so wonderfully human, to find such happiness in something shared.
“Are you kidding, little dude? Of freaking course I agree to this shit! Als, did ya hear what he sa-”
“SIGN ME THE FUCK UP!” Alya shouted in pure, unfiltered glee. Within seconds she was reaching across her boyfriend, grabbing the tome that had been the source of so many nasty feelings not even half an hour ago.
Nino’s easy laugh filled her ears, and soon it vibrated against her lips, gobbled up by a kiss of pure, vibrant glee that left them both more than a little love drunk.
“I swear, I- no, WE won't let you down!”
We.
Yes, that had a nice ring to it.
We, as in friends.
We, as in lovers.
We, as in heroic partners.
We, the Co-Guardians of the Miraculous, together until death do us part.
