Jonathan Abernathy You Are Kind is Molly McGhee's debut novel: a dreamlike tale of a public-private partnership that hires the terminally endebted to invade the dreams of white-collar professionals and harvest the anxieties that prevent them from being fully productive members of the American corporate workforce:

"Debtor vs creditor" is the oldest class division we have. The Bronze Age custom of jubilee – the periodic cancellation of all debts – wasn't some weird peccadillo. It was essential public policy, and without jubilee, the hereditary creditor class became the arbiter of all social priorities, destabilizing great nations and even empires by directing production to suit their parochial needs. McGhee's "American Dead Souls" crystallized all of this vast injustice into a single, beautiful essay – and then McGhee crystallized things further by posting a public resignation letter enumerating the poor pay and working conditions in New York publishing, triggering mass, industry-wide resignations by similarly situated junior editorial staff:

Thus we arrive at McGhee's debut: a novel written by someone with a track record for gorgeous, brutally insightful prose; incisive analysis of the class war raging in the embers of capitalism's American Dream; and consequential labor organizing against the precarity and exploitation of young workers. As you might expect, it's fantastic.
Jonathan Abernathy is a 25 year old, debt haunted, desperately lonely man. An orphan with a mountain of college debt, Abernathy lives in a terrible basement apartment whose rent is just beyond his means. The only thing that propels him out of bed and into the world are his affirmations:
Jonathan Abernathy you are kind
You are well respected and valued by your community
People, including your family, love you
That these are all easily discerned lies is beside the point. Whatever gets you through the night.
We meet Jonathan as he is applying for a job that he was recruited for in a dream. As instructed in his dream, he presents himself at a shabby strip-mall office where an acerbic functionary behind scratched plexiglass takes his application and informs him that he is up for a gig run jointly by the US State Department and a consortium of large corporate employers. If he is accepted, all of his student debt repayments will be paused and he will no longer face wage garnishment. What's more, he'll be doing the job in his sleep, which means he'll be able to get a day job and pull a double income – what's not to like?
Jonathan's job is to enter the dreams of sleeping middle-management types in America's largest firms – but not just any dreams, their nightmares. Once he has entered their nightmare, Jonathan is charged with identifying the source of their anxiety and summoning a more senior operative who will suck up and whisk away that nagging spectre, thus rendering the worker a more productive component of their corporate structure.
But of course, there's more to it. As Jonathan works through his sleeping hours, he is deprived of his own dreams. Then there's the question of where those captive anxieties are ending up, and how they're being processed, and what new products can be made from refined nightmares. While Jonathan himself is pulling ever so slightly out of his economic quagmire, the people around him are still struggling.
McGhee braids together three strands: the palpable misery of being Jonathan (a proxy for all of us), the rising terror of the true nature of his employment, and beautifully turned absurdist touches that are laugh-aloud funny. This could be a mere novel of ennui and misery but it's not – it's a novel of hilarity and fear and misery, all mixed together in a glorious and terrible concoction that is not like anything else you've ever read.

Bebo Akapane (previously Bebo YANLOID, then B3B0--) is a synth voiced and created by sunny in 2020. bebos character birthday is 29 oct 2005. he was originally released on 20 nov 2020 as bebo yanloid for sunny's Pureiweb website. then bebo was released again as b3b0 by feitphikz on 6 jul 2021. most recently bebo was released as bebo akapane for sunny's production company zipzap, on 7 apr 2023. bebo is 18yo and 160cm tall. his species is blob. bebo was part of the fictional PureiCorp's YANLOID pop group, from the pureiweb website

Pamphlet by Kahnistensera (Mohawk Mothers) - 29/09/2023
Searches for unmarked graves at Royal Victoria Hospital: McGill & SQI deny scientific evidence and breach court order
Kahnistensera (Mohawk Mothers) return to court Oct.27, as McGill and SQI keep violating Superior Court Injuction and agreements
On Sept. 11, 2023, Christopher Manfredi wrote to McGill community that "the first phase of the investigative work on the site of the New Vic Project comes to a close". Please be aware that this "conclusion" was forced unilaterally by McGill, and it does not align with the panel of archaeologists' report nor with the Kahnistensera (Mohawk Mothers), for whom the investigation is far from complete - let alone that the searches done so far were not done adequately (see below). The Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) for McGill then pretends that "this stage of the work has not produced any evidence of human remains or unmarked graves." Considering that three HHRD (Historic Human Remains Detection Dogs) alerted in the exact same area next to RVH building, and that a study by Grebenkemper et al. (2021) states that the "probability that two dogs would have a false positive at the same box is less than 0.06%", Manfredis' assertion is outright denialism of scientific evidence.
As the Kahnistensera's court files will show, McGill and the Société Québécoise des Infrastructures (SQI) have been violating the court-ordered injuction (Oct.2022), the settlement agreement (Apr.2023) and the temporary agreement (Aug.2023) in several manners:
Non-archeological drilling & excavating in the absence of the Kahnistensera (Mohawk Mothers): Despite the absence of the Kahnistensera and Mohawk cultural monitors, and despite the fact that the court-ordered archaelogical investigation is far from complete, McGill and SQI have been heavy drilling and excavating on site since Sept.11, flagrantly violating the court-ordered injuction and the temporary agreement between all parties involved, and putting the archaeological searches for human remains at extreme risk.
McGill's unilateral control over data interpretation: McGill and SQI kept refusing to share GeoScan's data with the Kahnistensera, the Panel of archaeologists jointly selected by all parties, and the Canadian Archaeological Association, even though this was required per the Panel's report. This means that McGill is unilaterally interpreting data, possibly overlooking vital evidence - voluntarily or not - and violating the letter and spirit of all agreements.
Potential child graves ignored: Anomalies in the Ground Penetrating Radars (GPR) data suggestive of children's graves have been silenced, directly violating the settlement agreement's principles of transparency and collaboration. The Mohawk Mothers insist on a thorough examination of these "unknown anomalies." The area excavated by McGill on Sept.11 and 12 is immediately next to several anomalies detected by the GPR.
Inadequate excavation practices: The few anomalies examined this far were excavated hastily using invasive heavy machinery without sifting the soil as required by the Panel of experts. This disregard for careful examination endangers the integrity of this sacred site.

See, Clara is not only American (and wealthy to boot), she's also best friends with John’s ex-fiancée. Whom she's placed in the wedding party. As Maid of Honor. And John just happens to be Best Man. Bloody brilliant.
A Promise Made to Be Broken by PlantsAreNeat (E, 37,018 w., 7 Ch. || Fake Relationship, Pining, Slow Burn, RST, Eventual Relationship, Primarily POV Sherlock) – A young John makes an ‘if we’re still single at 40, we’ll get together’ pledge to a woman who ends up all wrong for him. She keeps reminding him of the promise, and won’t let go of it. John asks Sherlock to pose as his boyfriend at a family wedding, so as to dash her hopes permanently. Sherlock, who has at last acknowledged his feelings for John, reluctantly agrees despite knowing how painful it will be to ‘have’ John, but not keep him.

A pochi minuti dalla mezzanotte del 29 giugno 2009 un treno merci, mal manutenuto, partito da Trecate e diretto a Gricinano, deraglia alle porte della stazione di Viareggio. Dalla prima delle quattordici cisterne si apre una crepa, uno squarcio da cui scappano trentacinquemila litri di Gpl. Di gas liquefatto infiammabile. Alle 23.48 l’inferno scende in terra. Un’esplosione scuote la notte di Viareggio, il fuoco inghiotte la piccola via Ponchielli. Una stradina alla periferia della città, che corre a fianco dei binari. Avvolge le persone, 32 furono i morti, le case, gli alberi, le auto.... Tutto quello che incontra. E da allora «Niente sarà più come prima».
A distanza di 14 anni il sistema giudiziario italiano non è riuscito ad attribuire, in via definitiva, le responsabilità penali di quella strage. Il principale imputato, l'ex ad di allora, Mauro Moretti, condannato a 5 anni nel processo di appello presso il tribunale di Firenze, per una serie di cavilli e pastoie burocratiche, nel terzo ed ultimo grado di giudizio, da tenersi in Cassazione, ha potuto beneficiare di un clamoroso ritardo nell'istruttoria del processo. Cosa che ha consentito allo stesso Moretti, di raggiungere i 70 anni e quindi l'impunibilità per raggiunti limiti di età. A ciò si aggiungono varie prescrizioni di reato sopraggiunte a carico di altri 13 imputati, quasi tutto il gruppo dirigente di Ferrovie Italia di allora. Beffa delle beffe una sentenza della Corte di Cassazione del 2021, ha stabilito che i lavoratori periti in quella STRAGE non potessero essere catalogati tra la fattispecie degli incidenti sul lavoro. Quindi nemmeno un riconoscimento risarcitorio come previsto dalle leggi vigenti. Si presume, quindi per l'alta corte, che i lavoratori che conducevano o manovravano il treno stessero lì per passare il tempo non per ottemperare ad un incarico lavorativo preciso. In questa vicenda grottesca, c'è tutta la contradditorietà del paese Italia. L'indignazione e la rabbia non bastano più. 32 morti attendono ancora giustizia. L'impunità continua.

The Democratic Party has very slowly seen their grip on Asian, Hispanic and Black voters slipping as of late. There are many nuanced, complex reasons for this. Here’s some fascinating data from Pew Research:
66% of Black Democrats believe sex is immutable and assigned at birth.
62% of Black Americans believe race should NOT be a factor in college admissions.
38% of Black Americans believe police funding should be INCREASED; 38% believe funding should remain as is; only 23% want it decreased.
In 2021, 65% of Black Americans believed that increased attention given to inequality had NOT led to changes for the better for Black Americans.
64% of Black adults feel that the ‘racial reckoning’ and focus on identity has NOT led to positive changes.
Only 29% of Black Democrats identify as ‘liberal’ within the party. (Compared with 55% of Whites.)
Currently, there has been a roughly 11% drop in Black voter support of the Democratic Party, dropping from 90% to 79%.
55% of Black Americans believe Democrats should work hard to find common ground with Republicans, versus only 41% who feel Democrats should proceed with their agenda no matter what.
***All this data seems to make one thing clear: White lefties are turning Black voters off, big time. If white liberals keep being paternalistic and keep ignoring what Black voters actually want, and how these voters think and feel, Dems are going to be in trouble.
Of course what I’m presenting here is only one angle on a complicated story. 63% of Black adults, according to Pew (source #9 below) still feel that racism is a major problem, and 60% feel that police brutality is. And there’s more in this vein. I’m not trying to oversimplify the case or cherry-pick or be one-sided. In general, Black Americans still vastly favor the Democratic Party broadly (though they’re generally more moderate).
I’m simply pointing out that this demographic seems to clearly *not* like the direction the Democratic Party is moving. We should pay attention to this.

While humans have long thought of gods living in the sky, the idea of space travel or humans living in space dates to at least 1610 after the invention of the telescope when German astronomer Johannes Kepler wrote to Italian astronomer Galileo: “Let us create vessels and sails adjusted to the heavenly ether, and there will be plenty of people unafraid of the empty wastes. In the meantime, we shall prepare, for the brave sky-travellers, maps of the celestial bodies.”
In popular culture, space travel dates back to at least the mid-1600s when Cyrano de Bergerac first wrote of traveling to space in a rocket. Space fantasies flourished after Jules Verne’s “From Earth to the Moon” was published in 1865, and again when RKO Pictures released a film adaptation, A Trip to the Moon, in 1902. Dreams of space settlement hit a zenith in the 1950s with Walt Disney productions such as “Man and the Moon,” and science fiction novels including Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles (1950).
Fueling popular imagination at the time was the American space race with Russia, amid which NASA was formed in the United States on July 29, 1958, when President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act into law. After the Russians put the first person, Yuri Gagarin, in space on Apr. 12, 1961, NASA put the first people, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, on the Moon in July 1969. What was science fiction began to look more like possibility.
Over the next six decades, NASA would launch space stations, land rovers on Mars, and orbit Pluto and Jupiter, among other accomplishments. NASA’s ongoing Artemis program, launched by President Trump in 2017, intends to return humans to the Moon, landing the first woman on the lunar surface, by 2024.
As of June 17, 2021, three countries had space programs with human space flight capabilities: China, Russia, and the United States. India’s planned human space flights have been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, but they may launch in 2023. However, NASA ended its space shuttle program in 2011 when the shuttle Atlantis landed at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on July 21.
NASA astronauts going into space afterward rode along with Russians until 2020 when SpaceX took over and first launched NASA astronauts into space on Apr. 23, 2021. SpaceX is a commercial space travel business owned by Elon Musk that has ignited commercial space travel enthusiasm and the idea of “space tourism.” Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and Jeff Bezo’s Blue Origin have generated similar excitement.
Richard Branson launched himself, two pilots, and three mission specialists into space [as defined by the United States] from New Mexico for a 90-minute flight on the Virgin Galactic Unity 22 mission on July 11, 2021. The flight marked the first time that passengers, rather than astronauts, went into space.

*HUGS* I hope YOU were okay from the storm!! Yes, I live in the Capital region, but thankfully the worst I had in my neighbourhood was a tree next to my building literally was PEELED from the ground (it looked wild, LOL). A couple of my coworkers who live on the QC side said they had no power for over 2 days, so their Easter was pretty poopy, bleh. It's SO weird now thinking just a week ago we had that wicked storm when today is a BEAUTIFUL summer day, 20˚C and sunshine. WEIRD.
