Object from Crete - Minoan Decorated Jug Late Minoan IB Period, c. 1575-1500 BCE From Lower Egypt; presumably found in Egypt but made on Crete Pottery, painted
“This vessel, one of the world's most famous works of Minoan pottery, shows five mollusks called nautili [argonauts] floating above the sea floor. The sinuous, undulating lines of the water plants and nautili tentacles clearly demonstrate the Minoans' love of bold, sweeping designs. For the Egyptians, Minoan painting must have provided an exotic contrast to their own balanced, ordered designs.”

Octo-ber #5: The Greater Argonaut and its kin are also known as paper nautiluses due to the thin "shell" that the females occupy. They are found worldwide in tropical and subtropical seas.

Danmachi Eiyuutan: Argonaut 2
Tumblr media
Author: Fujino Omori
Illustrator: Kakage
Label: GA Bunko
Release Date: 30 August 2023
My Score: 4/5
This book picks up where the first one left off: Argonaut and Olna have been rescued by Crozzo after escaping Lakrios. Crozzo is, of course, the past life of Welf and his instant bromance with Argonaut is really cute. It's of course meant to reflect the friendship between Bell and Welf and it made me feel super nostalgic for Welf's introduction in the main series.
Otherwise, this volume serves as a good continuation and conclusion to Argonaut's story. It develops Argonaut a lot as we get to see why he wants to become a hero so badly and just what kind of hero he wants to be. It's an interesting character arc for a character who could have easily have been a bland hero without any flaws. I appreciate what Omori tried to do with the character. The other characters also get some good development and I really like that they are not all copies of their main story counterparts. They all have their own personalities and motivations that make them distinct and interesting.
I do think that Argonaut's relationships with his love interests were rushed. It was far too quick for them to be in love with him and it meant that I wasn't as invested in those characters as I could have been because their love for Argonaut is part of their motivations and character arcs. The villain also was underdeveloped and came across as not much of a threat for most of the story. It was hard to understand his motivations and take him seriously. He got a bit of development at the end but it was too little too late for me.
Overall, while Argonaut is not my favourite entry in the Danmachi franchise, I'm glad I read it as it was definitely a pleasant surprise and I'd recommend it to Danmachi fans.
