This is what is happening to hcw who speak up against genocide in Australia. Not one medical association or medical defence company or regulator has spoken up for these people. But publishing a list of a zioni$t groups coordinated attacks against proPalestine workers, gets a law changed.
Never voting for the ALP again.

So Koala Man and Heartbreak high both have a male character named Spider. Heartbreak high’s spider is only nicknamed spider, but I don’t know about Koala man’s spider.
Is nicknaming guys Spider a thing in Australia, or is it a weird coincidence?

I JUST FOUND THE MOST INSANE QUEER REP
For anyone that doesn’t know, The Muddleheaded Wombat books are a beloved part of Australian childhood literature. They were part of my childhood, and when my sister requested a story today I picked “The Muddleheaded Wombat on Clean-Up Day” at random. But something I noticed, that I had never picked up on as a child, is that one of the main characters (Mouse) is never referred to as “he” or “she”, only ever “it”. It, It’s and Itself are spread throughout the book, all in reference to Mouse. Just now I’ve looked through several other Muddleheaded Wombat stories I have on my shelf at random and all of them use “it/it’s” pronouns for Mouse.
These books are from the sixties, based on a radio show from the fifties. What The Actual Fuck.
As a note, Mouse is never dehumanised (demousinised?) in the narrative. It has its own full personality, and is one of the three main characters of the story, along with Wombat and Tabby Cat (both he/him) who love it very much and the three of them have fun silly adventures together.
A second note: according to the Muddleheaded Wikipedia article Mouse is female, and i do remember it being portrayed with a more feminine voice in the audiobooks I listened to when I was little.
But ummmm canon it/its/itself character, as referred to by other characters and the narrator. Wild. I always knew I loved these books.
(Also Tabby is gay that’s not even up for debate).

I love how much Helluva Boss and literally any other media has influenced my vocabulary. I ingest so much British and Australian media with Helluva Boss that it's so fucking funny to hear myself talk sometimes. Cause yes, it's very clear what entertains me and how mildly contradicting it is.

Canberra Times axing specialist arts reviewers
More evidence of the disregard and poor esteem given to the arts in Australia by the media During the last week I received news from Limelight Media about the axing of arts critics and journalists in the Canberra Times. Writer Jason Blake noted on 22 June 2023, that “Canberra’s daily newspaper The Canberra Times has ceased to commission reviews of classical music, theatre, dance and the visual…

I've always wondered about what it would be like to be a lifer on Australian soaps ("Home and Away", the now defunct "Neighbors")
On one hand it must be stifling as an actor to play the same soap character for 20+ years, especially since soaps aren't really considered high level entertainment.
On the other hand you've essentially got a stable pay packet for acting for life (and probably a reasonably fat one too) and you don't have to go to Hollywood to continue your career.
I'm sure Alf is raking it in.

Mirror Mirror is timely, coming as it does the week after the UK coroner found social media contributed to a teenager’s death, leading a depressed girl down a dark path of disturbing content, and has similar themes to the 2020 Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma.
...
Sampson says research now shows that it isn’t screen time per se that is harmful to the mental health of young people but the “like” button, first introduced in 2009.
...“We’re not meant to get this much positive or negative feedback, but kids crave it online now and they crave it from strangers.”
Sampson presents some alarming statistics: according to the eSafety commissioner there has been a 245% increase in the nonconsensual sharing of intimate images and videos in the last three years; 70% of children have experienced hate speech online and teens who spend more than three hours a day on devices are 35% more likely to be at risk of suicide.

For the past 10 weeks, there’s been weekly rallies for Palestine in Naarm/Melbourne and the government’s claim that protest like this needlessly divides Australia is such bullshit. These rallies are one of the most diverse collections of people I’ve ever seen. Indigenous elders, Palestinian students, queer teens and adults from all walks of life. I saw an old Chinese grandma here a few weeks ago with a Palestinian flag stitched onto her sunhat. At another rally, a girl had come with her service dog - on his harness she had fixed a pin of the Palestinian flag. A prominent re-occurring chant is “ From the river to the sea / Always was, always will be” which combines Palestine’s call for freedom with an affirmation of Aboriginal people’s continuing sovereignty of Australian land.
Today in the rally, the speakers emphasised the value of not losing sight of Palestinian freedom during Christmas “festivities”. If the birthplace of Jesus Christ himself is under siege, what else is Christmas but a capitalist joy fest of consumerism?
This is not to say you can’t still celebrate, but do it responsibly. Observe the rules of BDS, observe the general strike on the 18th. Be more than a convenient idiot this holiday season.
